Abstract
A retrospective study of standard hyperalimentation catheter dressing compared to the use of Op Site has demonstrated that Op Site is cost and time effective and is efficacious for attaining a low catheter sepsis rate. It is easy for nursing personnel to apply and comfortable for the patients to wear. Op Site may be contraindicated in diaphoretic patients.

Abstract
The survival in organ culture of cat and human corneas in two chemically-defined media, T8 and MAB87/3 was compared with that in MEM containing foetal bovine serum. The endothelium was assessed by SEM and vital staining with nitroblue tetrazolium after periods of up to 28 days. The cat endothelial cell population increased considerably in density in all the media and the orderly hexagonal arrangement of the cells was lost. The derangement was greater in the chemically-defined media after periods of storage exceeding 7 days. The human endothelial cell population declined slightly in all the media and the cells retained a relatively orderly arrangement. Survival in the chemically-defined media appeared equal to that in MEM. We conclude: 1) the observed differences between the species need to be considered when cat endothelium is used as an experimental model; 2) chemically-defined media appear to be satisfactory for preservation of human corneas by organ culture for periods of at least 7 days.

Abstract
One hundred preschool boys and girls (2 1/2 and 5 1/2 year old) were asked to recognize four drawings they had made a week earlier. The child's drawing was presented with three foils which varied along the following dimensions: detail, size, and perspective. Chance performance was .25 correct; the group's performance of .34 correct was significantly different from chance (p < .0001); the oldest children's performance was .39 correct (p < .0001). These performances are impressive because of the slight variation between the target and foil drawings. The amount of differentiation in the children's drawings may be a factor in the ease of recognition.

Abstract
The effect of self-recording the frequency of stuttering or the word "the" during spontaneous speech by three adult stutterers was assessed within a single-subject experimental design. The effect of these procedures on stuttering frequency, use of the word "the," and speech rate differed for each subject. Subject 1 showed no systematic change in stuttering and an initial increase in "the" responses. Subject 2 reduced stuttering to almost zero during self-recording conditions. Subject 3 increased stuttering during self-recording stuttering and self-recording "the" conditions. These results, which indicated that self-recording procedures have a variety of effects on the stuttering behavior of different individuals, are not consistent with previous studies that have shown only reductions in stuttering during self-recording conditions.

Abstract
Methods of extraction from pharmaceutical formulations and subsequent determination of benzoic acid and salicylic acid by spectrofluorimetry are described. The recovery of benzoic acid, in the presence of salicylic acid, was 99.3%, with a coefficient of variation of 1.04%, while the recovery of salicylic acid, in the presence of benzoic acid, was 97.7%, with a coefficient of variation of 0-68%.

Abstract
The concept of MEDLARS as a publication/retrieval system was the product of several forces operating during the fifteen years prior to 1961. These included the overriding imperative of medical index publication, the Welch Medical Indexing Research Project, a drive to master the theory of medical subject headings, the innovative impact of coordinate indexing, and the confidence produced by the success of the Index Mechanization Project. By virtue of this experience, MEDLARS became a prime example of a well-understood enterprise seeking a computer application, a circumstance which augured of its success.

Abstract
The effect of 600 r of γ-radiation on NZB/W and stock mice was studied. In both groups of mice more than 50% of the animals died from thymomas and a small percentage from other tumours. The deaths from thymomas occurred significantly earlier than the deaths from other tumours. The time of onset and incidence of autoimmunity in the NZB/W mice did not appear to be affected by the treatment. The stock mice developed no autoimmunity.

Abstract
Viewed in the context of the organizational structure through which science perpetuates itself and grows, the research library at a university serves simultaneously the purposes of education, of validating scientific research, and of integrating information into the corpus of knowledge. These are three processes essential to the conduct of scientific investigation. Libraries will gain recognition and support to the extent that they can perform them effectively.
