Predicting the number of article citations on the topic of pemphigus vulgaris with the 100 top-cited articles since 2011: A protocol for systematic review and meta-analysis

BACKGROUND

Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) is a rare autoimmune blistering disease characterized by intraepithelial and mucocutaneous blister formation and erosion. Numerous articles related to PV have been published. However, which articles have a tremendous influence is still unknown, and factors affecting article citation numbers remain unclear. We aimed to visualize the prominent entities using the top 100 most-cited articles on the topic of PV (T100PV), and investigate whether medical subject headings (i.e., MeSH terms) can be used to predict article citations.

METHODS

By searching the PubMed Central (PMC) database, the T100PV abstracts since 2011 were downloaded. Citation analysis was performed to compare the dominant entities in article topics, authors, and research institutes using social network analysis (SNA) and Kano diagrams. We examined the MeSH prediction power against article citations using correlation coefficients (CCs).

RESULTS

The most cited article (125 times) was authored by Ellebrecht from the University of Pennsylvania in the US. The most productive countries were Germany (28%) and the US (25%). Most articles were published in J Invest Dermatol (16%) and Br J Dermatol (10%). Kasperkiewicz (Germany) and the Normandie University (France) were the most cited authors and research institutes, respectively. The most frequently occurred MeSH terms were administration and dosage, immunology, and metabolism. MeSH terms were evident in the prediction power on the number of article citations (F = 19.77; P < .001).

CONCLUSION

A breakthrough was achieved by developing dashboards to display the T100PV. MeSH terms can be used to predict the T100PV citations. These T100PV visualizations can be applied in future studies.

Quantifying the scientific interest in surgical training and education: numerical evidence of a PubMed analysis

The scientific interest (SI) for a given field can be ascertained by quantifying the volume of published research. We quantified the SI in surgical education to clarify the extent of worldwide efforts on this crucial factor required to improve health-care systems. A set of Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) was defined for the PubMed search. The number of Pubmed Indexed Papers (nPIP) relevant to the SI was extracted from database conception to December 2016 and their distribution and evolution by country were analyzed at 10-year intervals. Population Adjusted Index (PAI) and Medical School Adjusted Index (MSAI) analyses were performed for countries with the nPIP > 30. We identified 51,713 articles written in 33 different languages related to surgical education; 87.6% of these were written in English. General surgery was the leading surgical specialty. The overall nPIP doubled every 10 years from 1987 (from 6009 to 13,501, to 26,272) but stabilized at 3707, 3800 and 3433 in the past 3 years, respectively. The PAI and MSAI analyses showed that the USA, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Canada, Australia and Ireland are top producers of published research in surgical education, constituting a combined 62.88% of the nPIP. Our quantification of the change in SI in surgical education and training gives a clear picture of evolution, efforts and leadership worldwide over time. This picture mirrors an international academic society that should encourage all those involved in surgical education to improve efforts in educational research.

Completeness of reporting for COVID-19 case reports, January to April 2020: a meta-epidemiologic study

BACKGROUND

The quality of case reports, which are often the first reported evidence for a disease, may be negatively affected by a rush to publication early in a pandemic. We aimed to determine the completeness of reporting (COR) for case reports published on coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

METHODS

We conducted a systematic search of the PubMed database for all single-patient case reports of confirmed COVID-19 published from Jan. 1 to Apr. 24, 2020. All included case reports were assessed for adherence to the CARE (Case Report) 31-item checklist, which was used to create a composite COR score. The primary outcome was the mean COR score assessed by 2 independent raters. Secondary outcomes included whether there was a change in overall COR score with certain publication factors (e.g., publication date) and whether there was a linear relation between COR and citation count and between COR scores and social media attention.

RESULTS

Our search identified 196 studies that were published in 114 unique journals. We found that the overall mean COR score was 54.4%. No one case report included all of the 31 CARE checklist items. There was no significant correlation between COR with either citation count or social media attention.

INTERPRETATION

We found that the overall COR for case reports on COVID-19 was poor. We suggest that journals adopt common case-reporting standards to improve reporting quality.

Introduction

This article offers an overview of the life and work of Gerald N. Grob. As part of a generation of scholars intent on overturning the old "Whig history" of medicine, Grob pioneered the use of institutional history as an analytical tool. His work on American psychiatry combined a formidable command of archival sources with a strong commitment to putting medical practice in social context. Grob's personal and political views put him at odds with other scholars of the asylum; he conducted some very public feuds with David Rothman and Andrew Scull. At the same time, he showed a more benevolent side to younger historians interested in psychiatry; he took particular pains to encourage women (including the authors of this introduction) to enter a historical specialty then dominated by men. To honor Grob's legacy as a scholar and a person, this special issue features articles written by several generations of scholars influenced and inspired by his work.

The genealogy of the clinical syndrome of mania: signs and symptoms described in psychiatric texts from 1880 to 1900

In 1800, mania was conceptualized as an agitated psychotic state. By 1900, it closely resembled its modern form. This paper reviews the descriptions of mania in Western psychiatry from 1880 to 1900, when Kraepelin was training and developing his concept of manic-depressive illness. Psychiatric textbooks published 1900-1960 described 22 characteristic manic symptoms/signs the presence of which were recorded in 25 psychiatric textbooks and three other key documents published 1880-1900. Descriptions of mania in these nineteenth century textbooks closely resembled those in the twentieth century, recording a mean (s.d.) of 15.9 (2.3) and 17.0 (2.3) of the characteristic symptoms, respectively (p = 0.12). The frequency with which individual symptoms were reported was substantially correlated in these two periods (r = +0.64). Mendel's 1881 monograph, Kraepelin's first description of mania in 1883 and the entry for mania in Tuke's Dictionary of Psychological Medicine (1892) described a mean (s.d.) of 19 (1.7) of these characteristic symptoms. These descriptions of mania often contained phenomenologically rich descriptions of euphoria, hyperactivity, grandiosity, flight of ideas, and poor judgment. They also emphasized several features not in DSM criteria including changes in character, moral standards and physical appearance, and increased sense of humor and sexual drive. Fifteen authors described key symptoms/signs of mania most reporting elevated mood, motoric hyperactivity and accelerated mental processes. By 1880, the syndrome of mania had been largely stabilized in its modern form. In the formation of his concept of manic-depressive illness, Kraepelin utilized the syndrome of mania as described in the psychiatric community in which he was trained.

Geoffrey Keynes's Two-Fold Vision: Medical Savant-Connoisseur and Literary Bibliographer

During the 1920s and 1930s, the British surgeon Geoffrey Keynes (1887-1982) treated breast cancer with radium instead of the hegemonic radical mastectomy, while vehemently attacking the "radicalists" for mutilating women. Keynes was also a leading bibliographer of literary figures from Sir Thomas Browne to William Blake through Jane Austen. This article argues that these endeavors did not inhabit separate worlds, but rather his bibliographic methods of collecting and sorting were deeply interwoven with his therapeutic practices and medical ways of knowing. The article also examines the profound influence his engagement with the works of William Blake had on his battle against the reigning medical orthodoxy and on the humanity of his relationship with his patients. It concludes that Keynes' story sheds light on a now distant medico-cultural world where literary studies, often centered on book collecting and critique, were not only highly valued, but were influential in guiding the vision and behavior of a number of physicians.

[Investigation methodology and application on scientific and technological personnel of traditional Chinese medical resources based on data from Chinese scientific research paper]

The aim of this study is to identify the present status of the scientific and technological personnel in the field of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) resource science. Based on the data from Chinese scientific research paper, an investigation regarding the number of the personnel, the distribution, their output of paper, their scientific research teams, high-yield authors and high-cited authors was conducted. The study covers seven subfields of traditional Chinese medicine identification, quality standard, Chinese medicine cultivation, harvest processing of TCM, market development and resource protection and resource management, as well as 82 widely used Chinese medicine species, such as Ginseng and Radix Astragali. One hundred and fifteen domain authority experts were selected based on the data of high-yield authors and high-cited authors. The database system platform "Skilled Scientific and Technological Personnel in the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine Resource Science-Chinese papers" was established. This platform successfully provided the retrieval result of the personnel, output of paper, and their core research team by input the study field, year, and Chinese medicine species. The investigation provides basic data of scientific and technological personnel in the field of traditional Chinese medicine resource science for administrative agencies and also evidence for the selection of scientific and technological personnel and construction of scientific research teams.

Performing arts medicine-a bibliographic retrospective of the early literature: an historical examination of bibliographic references pre-1975

Performing arts medicine (PAM) emerged as a medical specialty around 1985. Prior to this time, relatively few publications addressed the identification and concerns of musicians' and dancers' medical problems. To determine what number and types of publications occurred prior to the actual beginnings of PAM as a discipline, and to determine how these original topics compared with present-day publications, a retrospective review of the current bibliographic database of the Performing Arts Medicine Association (PAMA) was undertaken. Out of a total of 12,600 entries to date, 489 references were found published from 1798 through 1974, which represent only 3.9% of the current database listings. One-sixth of the references were originally written in a language other than English. Journal articles were by far the most numerous type of publication. Topics with the highest number of entries included the neurobiology of music (n=77), dental/orofacial matters (71), and biographical accounts of composers or musicians and their illnesses (59). Other frequently published topics included hearing loss, physiology of playing instruments, and instrumental technique and teaching. Early topics with multiple publications included composers' biographies, dystonias, and surgery to improve finger independence for playing piano. Subjects whose publications occurred principally in the last two decades of this review included dermatological disorders, hearing loss, and ballet physiology, teaching, and technique. Those which remain popular to the present day include hearing loss, performance anxiety, focal dystonia, and dental/orofacial problems.

[Evaluation of the research features and methodology of acupuncture literatures of headache published in foreign journals in SCI in the recent 5 years]

Retrieving literatures in SCI source journals in the recent 5 years through Web of Science and PubMed databases, articles regarding to the treatment of headache with acupuncture are arranged and analyzed. It turns out that (1) the acupoint selection and treatment is not under the guidence of syndrome differentiation in the clinical research literatures published in foreign journals. (2) The clinical research trials published in foreign journals shows that regarding to curative effect, there is no difference between acupuncture group and sham acupuncture group which indicats that the westerners do not grasp the westerners do not grasp the essene of acupuncture techniques owing to the great difference of medical theory and thinking mode between eastern and western, and the western's shallow cognition of TCM and acupuncture. The sham acupuncture trials published in foreign journals with respect to acupuncture for headache cannot highlight the advantage o acupuncture therapy, what's more, the sham acupuncture trial designation is unfit for acupuncture therapy.

The Bockus International Society of Gastroenterology: historical review

The Bockus International Society of Gastroenterology was founded in 1958 in honour of Dr Henry L Bockus (1894-1982) by his former students, residents and fellows at the Graduate School of Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA. It was a celebrated tribute to Dr Bockus' outstanding leadership in the development and teaching of clinical gastroenterology as a subspecialty, which was in its infancy in the post-World War II era. He established the first formal training course in clinical gastroenterology in America. His department of gastroenterology became the leading graduate school of clinical gastroenterology in the world, training many clinical gastroenterologists in America and from many regions around the world. For many years, Dr Bockus was the most prominent American in world gastroenterology. The Bockus Society holds biennial scientific congresses in different continents, thus continuing to foster Dr Bockus' lifelong interest and vision to promote international medical friendship, and excellence in education and research collaboration.

Quantity, design, and scope of the palliative oncology literature

The current state of the palliative oncology literature is unclear. We examined and compared the quantity, research design, and research topics of palliative oncology publications in the first 6 months of 2004 with the first 6 months of 2009. We systematically searched MEDLINE, PsychInfo, EMBASE, ISI Web of Science, and CINAHL for original studies, review articles, and systematic reviews related to "palliative care" and "cancer" during the first 6 months of 2004 and 2009. Two physicians reviewed the literature independently and coded the study characteristics with high inter-rater reliability. We found a consistent decrease in the proportion of oncology studies related to palliative care between 2004 and 2009, despite an absolute increase in the total number of palliative oncology studies. Combining the two time periods, the most common original study designs were case report/series, cross-sectional studies, and qualitative studies. Randomized controlled trials comprised 6% of all original studies. The most common topics were physical symptoms, health services research, and psychosocial issues. Communication, decision making, spirituality, education, and research methodologies all represented <5% of the literature. Comparing 2004 with 2009, we found an increase in the proportion of original studies among all palliative oncology publications but no significant difference in study design or research topic. We identified significant deficiencies in the quantity, design, and scope of the palliative oncology literature. Further effort and resources are necessary to improve the evidence base for this important field.

Using bibliographic software to appraise and code data in educational systematic review research

BACKGROUND

Bibliographic database software is often recommended as a tool that can assist researchers in managing the large numbers of references produced in early stages of a systematic review. The uses of such software in systematic review research are often represented solely in terms of bibliographic functions, while the uses that extend beyond simple bibliographic functions have not been explored.

AIMS

This article provides a guide on how to use extended functions of bibliographic software to systematically complete the steps of appraising search results and coding references for inclusion in or exclusion from the systematic review.

METHODS

The process is illustrated using an ongoing systematic review as a case description and using screenshots from the bibliographic database, EndNote®, the authors' preferred software program for the study.

RESULTS

The case description illustrates how bibliographic software serves not only to organize and store search results, but also to appraise and code search results and to explicitly track researchers' decisions across the systematic review.

CONCLUSION

Bibliographic tools can contribute to make the methods that researchers adopt for the phase following the initial literature search more transparent and systematic. The illustrative case description involves a systematic review of academic education in occupational therapy, but easily generalizes to systematic reviews in other health science professions.

[Discussion on the suitable diseases and symptoms of bleeding therapy]

In order to explore the suitable diseases and symptoms treated by bleeding therapy so as to guide the clinical practice. The retrospective study of periodical literature series is used and all clinical literatures about bleeding therapy were searched in the China Journal Full Text Database in CNKI, the VIP Chinese Scientific Journals Full Text Database (CSJD), Wanfang Database, and the Chinese Bio-medical Literature Database, and the frequen cy of the literature and the total cases treated with bleeding therapy were statistically analyzed, and the principles and methods of clinical epidemiology and evidence-based medicine were used to classify and grade the literatures, and the diseases were classified according to the international statistical classification about diseases and related healthy problems (ICD10) issued by World Health Organization. As a result, 1149 effective literatures including 98,526 cases were searched out, which were involved in 18 major systems and 261 kinds of diseases. It is indicated that the bleeding therapy has lots of suitable diseases and symptoms and it is worth to be popularized. Particularly, this therapy has obvious advantages for treatment of herpes zoster, acne, hordeolum, cervical spondylosis, and oral ulcer.

[The catalogue and classification of medical works in ancient comprehensive bibliography]

The classification of ancient works of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) had a long history. Some ancient comprehensive bibliographies such as Han shu yi wen zhi, Sui shu jing ji zhi, Tong zhi yi wen lue, Guo shi jing ji zhi have different classification methods in ancient medical works, reflecting the different cognitions of the compiler on the contents attribute of ancient medical works. The modern classification method of medical works of TCM is still a project for further study. Reviewing the previous catalogue and classification methods of medical works can provide references and guides for future collating and research works of TCM books and literature.

An early selective Medline: Henry Stelwagon's 1916 textbook of dermatology

BACKGROUND

With the rapidly increasing amount of surgical and laser knowledge that has to be learned, we run the risk of not spending enough educational efforts on the morphologic findings on which the specialty of dermatology is based.

OBJECTIVE

To briefly review and evaluate a 1916 dermatology text by Henry Stelwagon.

CONCLUSION

This text has excellent clinical descriptions of diseases. As a bonus, we can find a succinct summary of the world literature up to 1916 on each topic presented.

[Number and nature of drug interactions concerning antineoplastic drugs]

Antineoplastic drugs are prone to drug-drug interactions. Cancer patients often receive multiple concurrent medications and health care professionals are not always aware that patients are also taking others treatments. The aim of this study was to assess the number of drug-drug interactions of antineoplastic drugs used in solid tumours and to find out and collect recommendations for each of them. We performed a bibliographic search from the Vidal dictionary, the "thesaurus de l'Afssaps", the "dossier du CNHIM" and from literature of scientific journals. For the 40 antineoplastic drugs studied, 726 drug-drug interactions were identified; 186 from the Vidal dictionary, 356 from scientific literature and 184 from others bibliographic sources. The most frequently involved antineoplastic drugs are ifosfamide, paclitaxel and erlotinib. The ATC groups of associated drugs are antiinfectives for systemic use, alimentary tract and metabolism and nervous system. Antiretrovirals are prone to drug interactions with antineoplastic drugs, particularly ritonavir, tipranavir and efavirenz. 7 contraindications and 15 unadvised associations were held. For 58% of interactions, no management recommendation was specified in the bibliographic source. Healthcare professionals must be aware that the Vidal dictionary gave information for only 26 % of registered drug-drug interactions. Our database gather in one document drug-drug interactions that come from different bibliographic sources. The setting of this database is part of the multidisciplinary caring of cancer patient. Drug-drug interaction is a field which for physicians and pharmacists should developed collaboration for patient care.

Meta-analyses in vaccinology

The use of meta-analysis as a method for systematic review of the literature has grown substantially since its appearance in 1988. We obtained and reviewed 134 meta-analyses cited in Current Contents, MEDLINE, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews reporting original meta-analyses in human subjects regarding vaccines directed against infectious diseases and their sequelae. More than a fifth of the meta-analyses concerned influenza vaccines and almost a sixth concerned pneumococcal vaccines. Nearly 80% principally evaluated efficacy, effectiveness, and immunogenicity. We review three prominent meta-analyses to illustrate features of the methods and make several observations. These concern electronic searches, the Cochrane Collaboration, individual study heterogeneity, and individual study quality as well as the utility of meta-analyses despite the limitations and the likelihood of its endurance as a methodologic technique in vaccinology.

[Beginning of modern anatomy in Japan from the perspective of anatomical bibliographies of the Meiji era]

In contrast to the days of the Shogunate during the Edo period when knowledge and information from abroad were derived solely from The Netherlands (so-called Western learning), the establishment of the new Meiji government marked the arrival of a wealth of new knowledge from English and German speaking countries to Japan. As with other academic fields, the field of medicine, particularly anatomy, experienced an influx of many foreign books during this period. In the early to middle Meiji period (1868-1887), anatomy books from English-speaking countries became mainstream, and translations of these books were subsequently published. However, following Japan's decision in the third year of the Meiji era (1870) to model itself after German medicine, and the subsequent introduction of German teachers in Japanese medical education, medicine from English-speaking countries was gradually replaced by German medicine. Consequently, a multitude of German anatomy textbooks began to be imported into Japan during the middle Meiji period. In the later half of Meiji period (1888-1912), sequential publication of books written by Japanese anatomists based on German anatomy books became more common, along with the development of medical personnel who had been taught by foreign teachers. Most of the anatomy textbooks written by Japanese anatomists followed a format based on that of German anatomy textbooks of the time. This format style became well established by the late the end of Meiji period, and continued to be used in subsequently published anatomy textbooks until around the end of World War II. Here we introduce books, such as the translated anatomy books and textbooks, that were published during the turbulent Meiji era, and describe these within a bibliographical context.

[The history of medical bibliography and the development of the idea of infectious disease between sixteenth and seventeenth century]

The aim of this paper is to underline the importance of the main medical bibliographies printed during the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Century, as instrument of transmission and information of the most important medical ideas. The history of medical bibliography is like a mirror where it is possible to recognize the main features of the medical knowledge and of its development during the centuries. The paper analyzes how the idea of infectious disease is documented in the main medical bibliography of the Sixteenth and the Seventeenth centuries and how it developed in relationship with the structure of the medical bibliographies. The study offers a concrete example of the importance and usefulness of the history of medical bibliography to the historians of medicine in their research.

Synthesizing medical evidence: systematic reviews and metaanalyses

Systematic reviews and metaanalyses have become increasingly popular ways of summarizing, and sometimes extending, existing medical knowledge. In this review the authors summarize current methods of performing meta-analyses, including the following: formulating a research question; performing a structured literature search and a search for trials not published in the formal medical literature; summarizing and, where appropriate, combining results from several trials; and reporting and presenting results. Topics such as cumulative and Bayesian metaanalysis and metaregression are also addressed. References to textbooks, articles, and Internet resources are also provided. The goal is to assist readers who wish to perform their own metaanalysis or to interpret critically a published example.

Cochrane Systematic Reviews in Acupuncture: Methodological Diversity in Database Searching

BACKGROUND

Since the early 1970s, the efficacy of acupuncture for treating clinical conditions has been evaluated in several hundred randomized trials. Results from these trials have been synthesized in systematic reviews. A well-designed systematic review provides the highest level of evidence for establishing the efficacy of a clinical intervention.

OBJECTIVES

The present study assesses the source of original literature contributing to Cochrane reviews on acupuncture. Databases searched to retrieve original studies are evaluated. The distribution of controlled trials in acupuncture across different topic areas and journals, the ability of the reviews to provide conclusive results, and the proportion of original studies indexed with MEDLINE are evaluated.

METHODS

Systematic reviews on acupuncture were extracted from the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews. The key search term used was "acupuncture." When more than one systematic review was retrieved on the same topic, the most recent review was included. Indexing of individual clinical trials with MEDLINE was searched using the Single Citation Matcher in PubMed.

RESULTS

A total of 94 papers were retrieved from the Cochrane database, of which 10 were included in the analysis. The most common subject areas were related to chronic pain. Considerable heterogeneity was observed in the number of databases searched (median 5, range 3-12). A total of 69% (74/108) papers were indexed with PubMed. Only 13% (14/108) of the papers were published in the primary acupuncture journals. Conclusive statements about the efficacy of acupuncture were made in only 2 of the 10 systematic reviews.

CONCLUSIONS

Considerable methodological diversity exists in the comprehensiveness of database searches for Cochrane systematic reviews on acupuncture. This diversity makes the reviews prone to bias and adds another layer of complexity in interpreting the acupuncture literature.

Developing Optimal Search Strategies for Finding Information on Herbs and Other Medicinal Plants in MEDLINE®

The MEDLINE database is an important resource for locating up-to-date information on herbs and other botanical therapies. However, the evolving nature of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) and the complexity of herbal terminology can make it difficult to identify useful citations. This paper describes optimal search strategies for finding clinical information on herbs and medicinal plants in MEDLINE using the PubMed retrieval system. Searchers will benefit from an understanding of the structure of Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) and PubMed's advanced search capabilities. Details for using PubMed's MeSH Database, Clinical Queries, Clipboard, and limiting features to retrieve pertinent botanical research are described. Tables containing MeSH terms for medicinal plants and useful print and electronic resources are included.

Language and country preponderance trends in MEDLINE and its causes

OBJECTIVE

The authors characterized the output of MEDLINE papers by language and country of publication during a thirty-four-year time period.

METHODS

We classified MEDLINE's journal articles by country of publication (Anglos/Non-Anglos) and language (English/Non-English) for the years 1966 and from 1970 to 2000 at five-year intervals. Eight English-speaking countries were considered Anglos. Linear regression analysis of number of papers versus time was performed.

RESULTS

The global number of papers increased linearly at a rate of 8,142 papers per year. Anglo and English papers also increased linearly (6,740 and 9,199, respectively). Journals of Non-Anglo countries accounted for 25% of the English language increase (2,438 per year). Only Non-English papers decreased at a rate of 1,056 fewer papers per year. These trends have led to overwhelming shares of English and Anglo papers in MEDLINE. In 2000, 68% of all papers were published in the 8 Anglo countries and 90% were written in English.

CONCLUSIONS

The Anglo and English preponderances appear to be a consequence of at least two phenomena: (1) editorial policy changes in MEDLINE and in some journals from Non-Anglo countries and (2) factors affecting Non-Anglo researchers in the third world (publication constraints, migration, and undersupport). These are tentative conclusions that need confirmation.

Effective bibliographic searching for animal alternatives in veterinary medical education: the UC Davis web site

To prepare students in just four years to enter veterinary practice, veterinary medical educators offer an array of laboratory and clinical experiences coordinated with didactic instruction. Recent curricular changes have reduced the numbers of animals involved in painful or terminal procedures. For each use of animals, veterinary educators are required by the USDA's policies 11 and 12 to complete animal-use protocols that include questions on alternatives to procedures causing more than momentary pain or distress. Veterinary medical educators seeking improved teaching resources and methods or completing animal-use protocols may find it frustrating to locate the relevant information, which is dispersed across many databases. This paper addresses a gap facing veterinary educators by presenting user-friendly searching tools that are targeted toward (a) locating teaching resources and (b) conducting effective bibliographic searches on standard teaching laboratory procedures, as required for animal-use protocols. These tools simplify searching by providing streamlined access to the resources being sought. Facilitating efficient and effective searching by users can improve teaching and simplify compliance with USDA requirements.
