Abstract
Epidemiological analysis describes and compares the characteristics of a certain number of people to make causal inferences. The formation of the study population is always the first step. In this paper, we first define the concepts of cross-sections at both individual level and population level and introduce the three assumptions needed in the measurements in observational studies, i. e. the true values of the attributes are stable with time, the attribute variables are independent and the individuals are independent during the measuring process. We also determine that the causal inference research should be unified based on the time of the occurrence or beginning of a postulated cause, or exposure, should be in. Then, based on the dual roles of the population cross-section with causal thinking, we propose that research designs can be classified into two types with different characteristics: history reconstruction research and future exploration research. Finally, we briefly analyze the research design framework and the relationship between estimated effects and different designs. The discussion of the formation of a study population from the perspective of causal thinking can make a foundation for the classification of causal inference research design with appropriate effect parameters, which needs to be further studied.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study evaluated the survival benefit of asparaginase (ASP)-based versus non-ASP-based chemotherapy combined with radiotherapy in a real-world cohort of patients with early-stage extranodal nasal-type natural killer/T-cell lymphoma (ENKTCL). PATIENTS AND METHODS We identified 376 patients who received combined radiotherapy with either ASP-based (ASP, platinum, and gemcitabine; n = 286) or non-ASP-based (platinum and gemcitabine; n = 90) regimens. The patients were stratified into low-, intermediate-, and high-risk groups using the early stage-adjusted nomogram-revised risk index. Overall survival (OS) and distant metastasis (DM)-free survival (DMFS) between the chemotherapy regimens were compared using inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) and multivariable analyses. RESULTS ASP-based (versus non-ASP-based) regimens significantly improved 5-year OS (84.5% versus 73.2%, P = 0.021) and DMFS (84.4% versus 74.5%, P = 0.014) for intermediate- and high-risk patients, but not for low-risk patients in the setting of radiotherapy. Moreover, ASP-based regimens decreased DM, with a 5-year cumulative DM rate of 14.9% for ASP-based regimens compared with 25.1% (P = 0.014) for non-ASP-based regimens. The survival benefit of ASP-based chemotherapy and radiotherapy remained consistent after adjusting the confounding variables using IPTW and multivariate analyses; additional sensitivity analyses confirmed these results. CONCLUSIONS The findings provided support for ASP-based chemotherapy and radiotherapy as a first-line treatment strategy for intermediate- and high-risk early-stage ENKTCL.

Abstract
Background Obesity is correlated with worse drug responses and high disease activity in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Interleukin (IL)-35 is a novel anti-inflammatory cytokine that mainly produced by regulatory T (Treg). This study was performed to analyze whether IL-35 was correlated with obesity in RA and investigate the correlation between other Th1/Th2/Th17-related cytokines and obesity in RA. Results The serum IL-35 level was analyzed in RA (n = 81) and healthy donors (n = 53) by ELISA assay, and was compared between three groups (body mass index (BMI) < 18.5,≥18.5 to 25, > 25). Serum cytokines including IL-2, IL-4, IL-10, IL-17, INF-γ, TNF-α levels were measured using Flowcytometry assay. Clinical information was extracted from medical records. Serum IL-35 level in overweight patients were significantly decreased than those in lean patients. Furthermore, Th1/Th2/Th17-related cytokines from overweight patients with RA showed the characteristic immunological features. Serum IL-6, IL-17 and TNF-α levels were positively correlated with BMI. However, serum IL-2, IL-4, IL-10 and IFN-γ concentrations were not correlated with BMI. Conclusions Quantitative changes in serum IL-35 level were characteristic in overweight patients with RA. These findings indicate that IL-35 plays an important role in the development of RA and may prove to be a potential biomarker of active RA. Abstract
Bacteria-driven drug-delivery systems have drawn considerable interests for their highly selective hypoxia-targeting and efficacy in tumor inhibition. For the first time, a supramolecular biohybrid bacterium (SA@HU) is constructed by coating attenuated Salmonella typhimurium (S. typhimurium ΔppGpp/Lux) with nanoassemblies. In addition, the host-guest inclusion complexes based on hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HPCD) and amantadine (AMA) was developed to encapsulate the natural antineoplastic product, ursolic acid (UA). It is found that the drug-carried coating layer has no significant impact on the antitumor activity or tumor-targeting capacity of bacteria. Significant restraint of tumor progression is achieved by SA@HU due to the synergy of cellular immune activation and apoptosis enhancement. Most importantly, intravenous delivery of UA by this biohybrid vector can cause tumor lysis, as the bacteria-attracting nutrients beneficial for preferential accumulation of bacteria in tumor. The mutual promotion of bacteria and UA may also contribute to a superior anticancer effect. Hence, the SA@HU-based biotic/abiotic supramolecular therapeutic system represents a novel strategy for combined chemo-bacterial therapy.

Abstract
Two novel waveguide gratings for optical phased array transmitters are investigated. By offsetting the grating structures along the waveguide on the upper and lower surfaces of the silicon nitride (Si3N4) waveguide, the dual-level chain and dual-level fishbone structures can achieve 95% of unidirectional radiation with a single Si3N4 layer by design. With apodized perturbation along the gratings, both structures can achieve uniform radiation without compromising the unidirectional radiation performance. In experiment, both demonstrate ∼ 80-90% unidirectionality. With further analysis, it is found that the dual-level fishbone structure is more feasible and robust to process variations in uniform radiation.

Abstract
To address the problem of traditional surface illuminated detectors being of low responsivity, this work proposes a large-size interdigitated "finger-type" germanium-on-silicon (Ge-on-Si) photodetector (PD) based on the surface illumination approach. For 1550 nm light with a surface incident power of -20 dBm at room temperature, the best responsivity of the PD achieved is ∼0.64 A/W at 0.5 V. At the same time, the optimal bandwidth reaches 1.537 MHz with 3.5 V applied voltage. In order to suppress the dark current induced noise, a Ge-on-Si avalanche photodiode (APD) with the interdigitated structure is designed. The avalanche voltage is designed ∼13.3 V at room temperature, and the dark current density in linear region is at mA/cm2 order. We believe this type of device can be applied in weak light detection condition.

Abstract
We aimed to investigate the effects of interleukin (IL)-35 on proangiogenic factors in IL-1β-pretreated chondrocyte-like SW1353 cells and screen-related genes that participated in osteoarthritis (OA) cartilage with IL-35, proangiogenic factors, and P38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway. Different concentrations of IL-35 incubated with IL-1β stimulated SW1353 cells with or without SB203580 (inhibitor of P38 MAPK). Proangiogenic molecule expression was assessed by real-time polymerase chain reaction and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Microarray datasets were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus database of OA cartilage. Protein-protein interaction of genes was visualized by Search Tool for the Retrieval Interacting Genes and Cytoscape. Database for Annotation, Visualization, and Integrated Discovery was used to screen biological processes and pathways. IL-35 inhibited mRNA expression of proangiogenic factors in IL-1β-stimulated SW1353 cells through the P38 MAPK signaling pathway. IL-35 inhibited angiopoietin-2 secretion. We found that 8 related genes, 18 biological processes, and 6 pathways may associate with IL-35, P38 MAPK signaling pathway, and cartilage angiogenesis. IL-35 regulated the expression of proangiogenic factors through P38 MAPK signaling pathway in IL-1β-stimulated SW1353 cells. IL-35 and P38 MAPK pathway may participate in neovascularization of cartilage. Our findings may provide molecular mechanisms and possible genes target treatment for OA.

Abstract
A toroidal soft x-ray array system for spectrum and intensity measurements on the EXL-50 spherical tokamak is described. Silicon drift detectors and digital multichannel analyzers are adopted for all 21 channels of the array, and an average energy resolution of 147 eV at 5.89 keV has been achieved at count rates over 500 kcps. In total, 20 channels of the array are symmetrically observed in both co- and counter-current directions on the EXL-50 mid-plane with a spatial resolution of around 10 cm, and the remaining one serves as a background reference channel. Tungsten emissions from tungsten coating of the limiters on the central post are observed. The influence of hard x rays on measured soft x-ray spectra and system operation is discussed.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Near-infrared fluorescence cholangiography (NIRF-C) can help to identify the bile duct during laparoscopic cholecystectomy. This retrospective study was performed to investigate the effect of NIRF-C in laparoscopic cholecystectomy. METHODS Consecutive patients who underwent NIRF-C-assisted laparoscopic cholecystectomy (n = 34) or conventional laparoscopic cholecystectomy (n = 36) were enrolled in this study. Identification of biliary structures, the operation time, intraoperative blood loss, and postoperative complications were analyzed. RESULTS Laparoscopic cholecystectomy was completed in all patients without conversion to laparotomy. The median operation time and intraoperative blood loss were not significantly different between the two groups. No intraoperative injuries or postoperative complications occurred in either group. In the NIRF-C group, the visualization rate of the cystic duct, common bile duct, and common hepatic duct prior to dissection was 91%, 79%, and 53%, respectively. The success rate of cholangiography was 100% in the NIRF-C group. NIRF-C was more effective for visualizing biliary structures in patients with a BMI of <25 than >25 kg/m2. CONCLUSIONS NIRF-C is a safe and effective technique that enables real-time identification of the biliary anatomy during laparoscopic cholecystectomy. NIRF-C helps to improve the efficiency of dissection.

Abstract
Objective: Gastric cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors in the world. IGHG1 is a differentially expressed protein screened out in gastric cancer in the early stage of the subject group. This topic explores the expression of IGHG1 in gastric cancer and the effect of IGHG1 on the proliferation, migration, invasion and EMT of gastric cancer SGC7901 cells and its mechanism of action. Methods: Twenty cases of gastric cancer were purified by laser Capture Microdissection. The isotopic tags for relative and absolute quantification was used to label the proteins, and then analyzed and identified them by quantitative proteomics. Immunohistochemical staining method was used to detect the expression of IGHG1 protein in gastric cancer tissues. Western blot was used to detect the expression of IGHG1 in gastric cancer cells. The MTT and Petri dish clone formation experiment analyzed the effect of low expression of IGHG1 on the proliferation of SGC7901 cells. Scratch test and Transwell migration and invasion test to observe the effect of low expression of IGHG1 on the migration and invasion of SGC7901 cells. Western blot was used to detect the effect of low expression of IGHG1 on the expression of EMT-related proteins. Results: 243 proteins related to gastric mucosal lesions were preliminarily identified. We found that IGHG1 is highly expressed in gastric cancer tissues compared with normal control tissues. IGHG1 promotes the proliferation, migration and invasion of gastric cancer cells. Compared with the control group, the expression of EMT-related proteins Vimentin, N-cadherin, TGF-β, P-SMAD3 was decreased and the expression of E-cadherin was increased after IGHG1 low expression. Conclusions: IGHG1 induces EMT in SGC7901 cells by regulating the TGF-β/SMAD3 signaling pathway.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To analyze the hospitalization cost and its influencing factors of imported malaria patients in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Yunnan Province, so as to provide insights into the evaluation of the economic burden due to imported malaria, and the guiding of malaria control and the rational allocation of medical resources. METHODS The data pertaining to the hospitalization costs of imported malaria patients admitted to Shanglin County People's Hospital in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region during the period from January 1 through December 31, 2019, and Tengchong Municipal People's Hospital in Yunnan Province from January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2019, were collected, and the epidemiological data of these imported malaria patients were extracted from the Information Management System for Parasitic Diseases Control and Prevention, China. The composition of the hospitalization expenses was analyzed using a descriptive method. In addition, the factors affecting the hospitalization expenses of imported malaria patients were identified using a univariate analysis and a recursive system model. RESULTS A total of 206 imported malaria patients were included in this study, including 194 men (94.17%) and 12 women (5.83%). The mean length of hospital stay was 5.00 days per patient and the median hospitalization expenses were 2 813.07 Yuan per time, in which the expenses for laboratory examinations were the highest (45.31%, 1 274.62/2 813.07). Univariate analysis showed that hospital (z = 5.43, P < 0.01), type of malaria (χ2 = 34.86, P < 0.01) and type of payment (χ2 = 7.72, P < 0.05) were factors affecting the hospitalization expenses of imported malaria patients. Recursion system modeling revealed that the total effects on hospitalization expenses of imported malaria patients included length of hospital stay (0.78), selection of hospital (0.34), basic medical insurance for urban and rural residents (0.19), new rural cooperative medical care (0.17), Plasmodium falciparum malaria (0.15), gender (0.11) and P. vivax malaria (0.09). CONCLUSIONS The hospitalization expenses of imported malaria patients are affected by multiple factors in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Yunnan Province, in which the length of hospital stay is the most predominant influencing factor. A reduction in the length of hospital stay is effective to decrease the hospitalization expenses of imported malaria patients.

Abstract
Nonaromatic photoluminescent polymers have attracted great attention due to their intriguing photophysical properties and promising implications in optoelectronic and biological areas. The luminescence from these nonconventional luminophores can be well rationalized by the clustering-triggered emission mechanism. Sulfur, although as an n-electron-rich element with big radius, is not been widely utilized in construction of nonconventional luminophores despite of its potential competitiveness in nonaromatic photoluminescent polymers. Herein, the "click" type Michael polyaddition is utilized to construct sulfur-bearing nonconventional luminophores, and two sulfur enriched nonaromatic poly(thioether sulfone)s (PES) are obtained, which demonstrate fluorescence-phosphorescence dual emission. More investigations concerning the monomer of bis(vinylsulfonyl)methane are further proceeded to support acquired results. Finally, the application of explosive detection by the prepared PES is also conducted.

Abstract
To study the role of the triiodide (I3 )- anion in establishing various halogen bonding patterns, the trimethylphenylammonium iodide (NMe3 PhI) salt was reacted with diiodine (I2 ) in the presence of a series of organoiodines, tetraiodoethylene (TIE), 1,2-diiodo-3,4,5,6-tetrafluorobenzene (o-F4 DIB), 1,4-diiodo-2,3,5,6-tetrafluorobenzene (p-F4 DIB), and 1,3,5-trifluoro-2,4,6-triiodobenzene (1,3,5-F3 I3 B) to form cocrystals of the organoiodines with the trimethylphenylammonium triiodide (NMe3 PhI3 ) salt. Single-crystal X-ray crystallography revealed the (I3 )- anion served as a halogen bond acceptor for the organoiodine donors, forming a variety of 1-D, 2-D, and 3-D packing arrangements through I⋅⋅⋅I halogen bonding. Significant asymmetry was observed within the (I3 )- anion. The melting points of the cocrystalline materials, as determined by simultaneous DSC/TGA, ranged from 43 °C to 119 °C and showed a strong dependence on the identity of the organoiodine incorporated into the crystal lattice.

Abstract
A tangential hard x-ray (HXR) diagnostic on the newly constructed ENN XuanLong-50 (EXL-50) spherical tokamak for fast electron emission studies is presented. The HXR detection system consists of a symmetrical CdZnTe semiconductor detector array with a spectral sensitivity range of 20-300 keV. 25 channels have been designed on the 270° horizontal vacuum port with 12 sight lines to observe the forward emission, 12 sight lines to observe the backward emission of fast electrons, and 1 for viewing the central. Currently, ten channels have been in operation in the EXL-50 experiments. The systems are designed to measure the x-ray spectra for the estimation of fast electron temperature and electron velocity distribution in the EXL-50 experiment, which will be useful for understanding the dynamics of fast electrons generated by electron cyclotron resonance heating, for plasma instability and transport studies and for the analysis of plasma heating efficiency.

Abstract
Background The current study aimed to evaluate the value of immune cell counts and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) when attempting to predict 28-day mortality. Methods We conducted an observational retrospective study that included consecutive septic patients. Severity scores on the first day and peripheral circulating immune cell counts (at day 1, day 3, day 5 and day 7 of admission) were collected during each patient’s emergency intensive care unit stay. We assessed the associations of peripheral circulating immune cell counts and NLR with the severity of illness. The relationships between 28-day mortality and peripheral circulating immune cell counts and NLR with were evaluated using Cox proportional cause-specific hazards models. Results A total of 216 patients diagnosed with sepsis caused by IAI were enrolled. The lymphocyte counts (days 1, 3, 5 and 7) and monocyte counts (days 3, 5 and 7) were significantly lower in non-survivors (n = 72) than survivors (n = 144). The NLR values at each time point were significantly higher in non-survivors. The day 1 lymphocyte counts, as well as the monocyte counts, were significantly lower in the highest-scoring group, when stratified by the Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II and Sequential Organ Failure Assessment scores, than in the other groups (p < 0.05). The day 1 NLR was significantly higher in the highest-scoring group than in the other groups (p < 0.05). The day 5 and day 7 lymphocyte counts, day 3 and day 7 monocyte counts and day 7 NLR were significant predictors of 28-day mortality in the Cox proportional hazards models (day 5 lymphocyte count: hazard ratio, 0.123 (95% CI, 0.055–0.279), p < 0.001; day 7 lymphocyte count: hazard ratio, 0.115 (95% CI, 0.052–0.254), p < 0.001; day 3 monocyte count: hazard ratio, 0.067 (95% CI, 0.005–0.861), p = 0.038; day 7 monocyte count: hazard ratio, 0.015 (95% CI, 0.001–0.158), p < 0.001; day 7 NLR: hazard ratio, 0.773 (95% CI, 0.659–0.905), p = 0.001). Conclusions The results showed that circulating lymphocytes and monocytes were dramatically decreased within 7 days in non-survivors following sepsis from an IAI. Lymphocyte counts, monocyte counts and NLR appeared to be associated with the severity of illness, and they may serve as independent predictors of 28-day mortality in septic patients with IAIs.

Abstract
Incorporation of structurally novel noncanonical amino acids (ncAAs) into proteins is valuable for both scientific and biomedical applications. To expand the structural diversity of available ncAAs and to reduce the burden of chemically synthesizing them, we have developed a general and simple biosynthetic method for genetically encoding novel ncAAs into recombinant proteins by feeding cells with economical commercially available or synthetically accessible aromatic thiols. We demonstrate that nearly 50 ncAAs with a diverse array of structures can be biosynthesized from these simple small-molecule precursors by hijacking the cysteine biosynthetic enzymes, and the resulting ncAAs can subsequently be incorporated into proteins via an expanded genetic code. Moreover, we demonstrate that bioorthogonal reactive groups such as aromatic azides and aromatic ketones can be incorporated into green fluorescent protein or a therapeutic antibody with high yields, allowing for subsequent chemical conjugation.

Abstract
Objectives To investigate the influence of Coronavirus Disease 2019 on incidence of acute complex appendicitis and management of acute appendicitis. Methods Patients undergoing acute appendicitis surgery in a single center during the COVID-19 epidemic from January to September 2020 and patients from January to September 2019 were taken as the epidemic group and control group respectively. The clinical characteristics and surgical pathological information were compared between the two groups. The primary outcome measure was complex appendicitis. Results A total of 235 patients were included in the study, containing 106 in the epidemic group and 129 in the control group. The patients in the epidemic group had a significantly longer interval from the onset of symptoms to registration (37.92 h vs 24.57 h, P = 0.028), from registration to admission (18.69 h vs 8.04 h, P < 0.001), and from admission to surgery (7.23 h vs 6.52 h, P = 0.016). The epidemic group had a higher incidence of suppurative appendicitis (86.8% vs 76.0%, P = 0.036) and a higher incidence of complex appendicitis (35.8% vs 19.4%, P = 0.005). Conclusion Higher incidence of acute complex appendicitis seemed to occur during COVID-19 outbreak.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to examine how the political career concerns of top executives affect corporate environmental practices.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on rent-seeking theory, this work uses empirical analysis to investigate the impact of top executives’ political connection and political promotion on corporate environmental information disclosure (EID). Data were collected from Chinese listed firms in heavily polluting industries in the Shanghai Stock Market in 2014–2016.
Findings
The results reveal that the highly politically connected top executives are more likely to be promoted in their political positions than their counterparts. However, the firms under the management of these highly politically connected executives show low level of EID. The results suggest that the political motivations of top executives with political connection hinders corporate EID.
Originality/value
This paper extends literature system about the impact of executives' rent-seeking on corporate EID by examining the informal mechanisms in terms of political connection and political promotion. It provides insights for studies of corporate environmental strategies and governmental environmental responsibility.

Abstract
Background Microvascular invasion (MVI) is highly associated with poor prognosis in patients with liver cancer. Predicting MVI before surgery is helpful for surgeons to better make surgical plan. In this study, we aim at establishing a nomogram to preoperatively predict the occurrence of microvascular invasion in liver cancer. Method A total of 405 patients with postoperative pathological reports who underwent curative hepatocellular carcinoma resection in the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University from 2013 to 2015 were collected in this study. Among these patients, 290 were randomly assigned to the development group while others were assigned to the validation group. The MVI predictive factors were selected by Lasso regression analysis. Nomogram was established to preoperatively predict the MVI risk in HCC based on these predictive factors. The discrimination, calibration, and effectiveness of nomogram were evaluated by internal validation. Results Lasso regression analysis revealed that discomfort of right upper abdomen, vascular invasion, lymph node metastases, unclear tumor boundary, tumor necrosis, tumor size, higher alkaline phosphatase were predictive MVI factors in HCC. The nomogram was established with the value of AUROC 0.757 (0.716–0.809) and 0.768 (0.703–0.814) in the development and the validation groups. Well-fitted calibration was in both development and validation groups. Decision curve analysis confirmed that the predictive model provided more benefit than treat all or none patients. The predictive model demonstrated sensitivity of 58.7%, specificity of 80.7% at the cut-off value of 0.312. Conclusion Nomogram was established for predicting preoperative risk of MVI in HCC. Better treatment plans can be formulated according to the predicted results.

Abstract
Background: Gastric carcinoma (GC) is one of the most common malignant tumors and seriously threatens human life and health. Methods: In the present study, 243 differentially expressed proteins in GC were identified using laser capture microdissection (LCM) combined with isotopically labeled quantitative proteomics technology. The expression of serine protease 1 (PRSS1) protein was analyzed by immunohistochemistry and Western blot. MTT and colony formation assays were employed to determine the effect of PRSS1 expression on the growth and proliferation of GC cells. Then, we observed the expression of miR-146a-5p in GC by qRT-PCR. A dual luciferase assay was performed to determine whether PRSS1 is a target gene of miR-146a-5p. We also explored the influence of miR-146a-5p expression on PRSS1 expression and on the growth and proliferation of GC cells. Finally, Western blotting was used to analyze the effect of PRSS1 expression on the activation of the ERK signaling pathway. Results: We confirmed that PRSS1 expression was significantly increased and was positively correlated with the differentiation, tumor size and lymph node metastasis of GC. Subsequently, we found that overexpression of PRSS1 promoted the growth and proliferation of cells, whereas silencing PRSS1 expression inhibited the growth and proliferation of MGC803 cells by inhibiting activation of the ERK signaling pathway via reductions in PAR-2 activation. MiR-146a-5p targets PRSS1 and suppresses the growth and proliferation of MGC803 cells. Conclusions: miR-146a-5p targets PRSS1 and suppresses the growth and proliferation of MGC803 cells. Silencing PRSS1 expression inhibits the ERK signaling pathway by reducing PAR-2 activation, resulting in suppressed growth and proliferation of MGC803 GC cells.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the antimicrobial resistance characteristics of 538 Neisseria meningitidis isolated from 2005 to 2019 in China. Method: Total of 538 Neisseria meningitidis strains collected from 30 provinces in China from 2005 to 2019. Antimicrobial susceptibility test were performed based on the standards of clinical and laboratory standardization association (CLSI) including 11 recommended antibiotics. Gradient diffusion method was used to detect the antibiotic sensitivity of Neisseria meningitidis. Results: All 538 strains were sensitive to azithromycin, meropenem, chloramphenicol, rifampicin and ceftriaxone. As to other six antibiotics, the antibiotics sensitivity rates were cefotaxime (97.4%, 524 strains), ampicillin (87.7%, 472 strains), penicillin (84.8%, 456 strains), minocycline (95.2%, 512 strains), ciprofloxacin (24.9%, 134 strains) and trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole (11.2%, 60 strains) respectively. Conclusions: Neisseria meningitidis isolated from 2005-2019 in China were all sensitive to azithromycin, meropenem, chloramphenicol, rifampicin and ceftriaxone. It should highlight Neisseria meningitidis resistant to cefotaxime, ampicillin and penicillin. Ciprofloxacin and sulfamethoxazole are not recommended as the priority choice for clinical treatment and prophylactic medication.

Abstract
Objective: To study the efficacy and patient comfort of absorbable hemostatic powder after endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS). Methods: A total of 21 (17 males, 4 females) patients with an average age of 42(ranging from 18 to 65) underwent bilateral ESS for chronic rhinosinusitis(CRS) in Beijing Tongren Hospital, Capital Medical University between October 2015 and July 2019 were enrolled to compare the effect of absorbable hemostasis powder with Nasopore using an intrapatient control design. A randomized controlled trial was conducted in the left and right nasal cavities of the same patient. If hemostatic powder was applied in the experiment nasal cavity, the Nasopore was applied in the control nasal cavity. The mean preoperative sinus computed tomography (CT) score was 6.25. All patients competed for symptom diaries using a visual analog scale (VAS, score out of 10) at baseline, through 1, 7, 14 and 30 days. Outcomes including bleeding, facial pain, nasal obstruction, nasal discharges using VAS were recorded separately for both sides. Postoperative endoscopic scores were also investigated. SPSS 22 and Graphpad prism 8.0 statistical softwares were used for the analysis. Paired t-test or nonparametric test was used between the test side and the control side. The difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Results: The bleeding score and total nasal symptom VAS scores at postoperative days (POD) 1, 7, 14 and 30 were not significantly different(t=1.341, 0.552, 0.631, 0.158, all P>0.05;t=0.944, 1.471, 1.612, 2.251, all P>0.05). There was no significant difference between absorbable hemostasis powder and Nasopore side on POD 1, 7, 14 and 30 in terms of each nasal symptom VAS scores(all P>0.05). On POD 1, 7 and 14, the packing material degeneration scores of the absorbable hemostasis powder side were significantly lower than those of the Nasopore side [(1.33±0.21)vs(2.00±0.00),(0.38±0.18) vs (1.95±0.22), 0 vs (1.80±0.13), all P<0.01]. There were significant differences between absorbable hemostasis powder and Nasopore side on POD 1, 7, 14 and 30 in terms of endoscopic scores (edema, crusting, discharges, scar, polyps and material degeneration, t=3.07, 7.00, 6.41, 2.69, all P<0.05). Conclusions: The absorbable hemostasis powder and Nasopore has similar postoperative hemostasis effect. The absorbable hemostasis powder is rapidly cleared and without negative effects on mucosal wound healing 14 days postoperatively.

A visible-light-driven protocol for the synthesis of aryl trifluoromethyl thioethers under photocatalyst- and metal-free conditions has been pursued. The procedure exploits the peculiar properties of arylazo sulfones (having electron-rich or electron-poor substituents on the (hetero)aromatic ring) as photochemical precursors of aryl radicals and S-trifluoromethyl arylsulfonothioates as easy-to-handle trifluoromethylthiolating agents.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Osteoporosis is a common metabolic bone disease mainly involving bone remodeling and blood vessels. The current study aimed to explore the suppressive role of interleukin (IL)-35 in nuclear factor kappa-B ligand receptor activator (RANKL) and macrophage colony stimulating factor (M-CSF)-induced osteoclastogenesis and angiogenesis in osteoclasts. METHODS Osteoclasts differentiation were induced by incubation of mouse leukemic monocyte/macrophage cell line RAW264.7 cells in the presence of RANKL and M-CSF and was assessed with tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) staining assay. The viability and apoptosis of RAW264.7 was measured using CCK-8 assay and flow cytometry, respectively. The expression of angiogenic genes and proteins were measured using RT-PCR, Western blots and ELISA. The inhibition of Th17/IL-17 axis was examined using plumbagin, which was demonstrated as an IL-17A related signaling pathway inhibitor. RESULTS IL-35 inhibited the viability of RAW264.7 cells and promoted the apoptosis of RAW264.7 cells in a dose-dependent manner. Furthermore, IL-35 dose-dependently suppressed the expression of angiogenic markers including VEGF and its receptor. The suppressive effect of IL-35 was confirmed through the activation of Th17/IL-17 axis. CONCLUSIONS We demonstrated for the first time the immuno-suppressive function of IL-35 on RANKL and M-CSF-induced osteoclastogenesis and angiogenesis through Th17/IL-17 axis. Therapeutic approach involving augmentation of IL-35 regulatory response may serve as a novel treatment option for osteoporosis, especially by suppressing bone resorption and angiogenesis.
