Abstract
A single-stage mixotrophic cultivation strategy was developed with a novel microalgal isolate Chlorella sorokiniana FC6 IITG for high cell density lipid-rich biomass generation. The strain was evaluated for growth and lipid content under different physico-chemical parameters, nutritional conditions and trophic modes. Finally, a single-stage mixotrophic fed-batch cultivation strategy was demonstrated with intermittent feeding of key nutrients along with dynamic increase in light intensity for high cell density biomass and sodium acetate as elicitor for lipid enrichment. The key findings: (i) glucose and sodium acetate was identified as growth supporting and lipid inducing nutrients, respectively; (ii) mixotrophic batch cultivation resulted in maximum biomass and lipid productivity (mgL(-1)day(-1)) of 455.5 and 111.85, respectively; (iii) single-stage mixotrophic fed-batch cultivation showed maximum biomass productivity of 1.93gL(-1)day(-1) (biomass titer 15.81gL(-1)) and lipid productivity of 550mgL(-1)day(-1); (iv) biodiesel properties were in accordance with international standards.

Abstract
The inclusive production cross sections at forward rapidity of [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text](1S) and [Formula: see text](2S) are measured in [Formula: see text] collisions at [Formula: see text] with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The analysis is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.35 pb[Formula: see text]. Quarkonia are reconstructed in the dimuon-decay channel and the signal yields are evaluated by fitting the [Formula: see text] invariant mass distributions. The differential production cross sections are measured as a function of the transverse momentum [Formula: see text] and rapidity [Formula: see text], over the ranges [Formula: see text] GeV/c for [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] GeV/c for all other resonances and for [Formula: see text]. The measured cross sections integrated over [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text], and assuming unpolarized quarkonia, are: [Formula: see text] [Formula: see text]b, [Formula: see text] [Formula: see text]b, [Formula: see text] nb and [Formula: see text] nb, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second one is systematic. The results are compared to measurements performed by other LHC experiments and to theoretical models.

Abstract
Bioethanol was produced from poplar leafy biomass rich in hemicelluloses content involving recombinant Clostridium thermocellum hemicellulases and pentose sugar utilizing Candida shehatae. FT-IR analysis revealed effective AFEX pretreatment of poplar leaves. Repetitive batch strategy yielded ∼1.5-fold rise in cell biomass and specific activity of both, acetylxylanesterase (Axe) and GH43 hemicellulase. TLC and HPAEC exhibited xylose and arabinose release from hydrolyzed biomass. SSF trial with 1% (wv(-1)) pretreated poplar and mixed enzymes showed ∼1.5-fold higher ethanol titre as compared with SHF. The shake flask SSF with 5% (wv(-1)) pretreated poplar furnished 4.56 and 5.43gL(-1) ethanol with Axe and mixed enzymes, respectively. Whereas, bioreactor scale-up exhibited ∼1.25-fold increase in ethanol titres (5.68, 6.75gL(-1)) as compared with shake flask with an yield of 0.295 (gg(-1)) and 0.351 (gg(-1)), respectively with Axe and mixed enzymes.

Abstract
Iatrogenic injury to the supra-diaphragmatic inferior vena cava (IVC) is uncommon, but can lead to a potentially complicated situation. Injury to the IVC is encountered usually during re-operative and congenital surgery, but can occur during the course of routine cardiac surgery as well. Depending on the mechanism, injury may involve the anterior or posterior wall of the IVC. A short adherent IVC, redo surgery and female sex are incremental risk factors for injury. Control of bleeding, adequate exposure and prevention of extension of the tear are the important considerations at the time of repair. While a number of management techniques have been reported, we describe a very simple maneuver that allows swift control of bleeding, adequate exposure and minimizes the risk of further extension and a satisfactory repair.

Abstract
Drug resistance studies ideally require two sputum specimens, one spot and one early morning, for culture in Löwenstein-Jensen medium. Although the type of specimen plays a major role in the detection of acid-fast bacilli using microscopy, this type of specimen collection puts unnecessary pressure on patients. Two sputum samples, one on the spot and another in the early morning, collected from 179 TB patients in cetylpyridinium chloride and processed for culture, yielded respectively 89.9% and 87.7% culture positivity, while culture positivity increased to 93.3% when both specimens were tested.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine the effect of weight loss on health-related quality of life (HRQL) in randomized controlled intervention trials (RCTs). MEDLINE, HealthStar and PsycINFO were searched. RCTs of any weight loss intervention and 20 HRQL instruments were examined. Contingency tables were constructed to examine the association between statistically significant weight loss and statistically significant HRQL improvement within five HRQL categories. In addition, Short Form-36 (SF-36) outcomes were pooled using random-effects models. Fifty-three trials were included. Seventeen studies reported statistically significant weight loss and HRQL improvement. No statistically significant associations between weight loss and HRQL improvement were found in any contingency table. Because of suboptimal endpoint reporting, quantitative data pooling could only be performed using 25% of SF-36 trials in any one model. Significant improvements in physical health were found: mean difference 2.83 points, 95% CI 0.55-5.1, for the physical component score, and mean difference 6.81 points, 95% CI 2.99-10.63, for the physical functioning domain score. Conversely, no significant improvements in mental health were found. No significant association was found between weight loss and overall HRQL improvement. Weight loss may be associated with modest improvements in physical, but not mental, health.

Abstract
The present study describes the usage of dried leafy biomass of mango (Mangifera indica) containing 26.3% (w/w) cellulose, 54.4% (w/w) hemicellulose, and 16.9% (w/w) lignin, as a substrate for bioethanol production from Zymomonas mobilis and Candida shehatae. The substrate was subjected to two different pretreatment strategies, namely, wet oxidation and an organosolv process. An ethanol concentration (1.21 g/L) was obtained with Z. mobilis in a shake-flask simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) trial using 1% (w/v) wet oxidation pretreated mango leaves along with mixed enzymatic consortium of Bacillus subtilis cellulase and recombinant hemicellulase (GH43), whereas C. shehatae gave a slightly higher (8%) ethanol titer of 1.31 g/L. Employing 1% (w/v) organosolv pretreated mango leaves and using Z. mobilis and C. shehatae separately in the SSF, the ethanol titers of 1.33 g/L and 1.52 g/L, respectively, were obtained. The SSF experiments performed with 5% (w/v) organosolv-pretreated substrate along with C. shehatae as fermentative organism gave a significantly enhanced ethanol titer value of 8.11 g/L using the shake flask and 12.33 g/L at the bioreactor level. From the bioreactor, 94.4% (v/v) ethanol was recovered by rotary evaporator with 21% purification efficiency.

Abstract
The present study reports evaluation of an indigenous microalgal isolate Chlorella sp. FC2 IITG as a potential candidate for biodiesel production. Characterization of the strain was performed under photoautotrophic, heterotrophic, and mixotrophic cultivation conditions. Further, an open-pond cultivation of the strain under outdoor conditions was demonstrated to evaluate growth performance and lipid productivity under fluctuating environmental parameters and in the presence of potential contaminants. The key findings were: (1) the difference in cultivation conditions resulted in significant variation in the biomass productivity (73-114 mg l⁻¹ day⁻¹) and total lipid productivity (35.02-50.42 mg l⁻¹ day⁻¹) of the strain; (2) nitrate and phosphate starvation were found to be the triggers for lipid accumulation in the cell mass; (3) open-pond cultivation of the strain under outdoor conditions resulted in biomass productivity of 44 mg l⁻¹ day⁻¹ and total lipid productivity of 10.7 mg l⁻¹ day⁻¹; (4) a maximum detectable bacterial contamination of 7 % of the total number of cells was recorded in an open-pond system; and (5) fatty acid profiling revealed abundance of palmitic acid (C16:0), oleic acid (C18:1) and linoleic acid (C18:2), which are considered to be the key elements for suitable quality biodiesel.

Abstract
Differential cross sections of charged particles in inelastic pp collisions as a function of pT have been measured at [Formula: see text] at the LHC. The pT spectra are compared to NLO-pQCD calculations. Though the differential cross section for an individual [Formula: see text] cannot be described by NLO-pQCD, the relative increase of cross section with [Formula: see text] is in agreement with NLO-pQCD. Based on these measurements and observations, procedures are discussed to construct pp reference spectra at [Formula: see text] up to pT=50 GeV/c as required for the calculation of the nuclear modification factor in nucleus-nucleus and proton-nucleus collisions.

Directed flow of charged particles at midrapidity relative to the spectator plane in Pb-Pb collisions at √(s(NN))=2.76 TeV. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2013; 111:232302. Abstract
The directed flow of charged particles at midrapidity is measured in Pb-Pb collisions at √(s(NN))=2.76 TeV relative to the collision symmetry plane defined by the spectator nucleons. A negative slope of the rapidity-odd directed flow component with approximately 3 times smaller magnitude than found at the highest RHIC energy is observed. This suggests a smaller longitudinal tilt of the initial system and disfavors the strong fireball rotation predicted for the LHC energies. The rapidity-even directed flow component is measured for the first time with spectators and found to be independent of pseudorapidity with a sign change at transverse momenta p(T) between 1.2 and 1.7 GeV/c. Combined with the observation of a vanishing rapidity-even p(T) shift along the spectator deflection this is strong evidence for dipolelike initial density fluctuations in the overlap zone of the nuclei. Similar trends in the rapidity-even directed flow and the estimate from two-particle correlations at midrapidity, which is larger by about a factor of 40, indicate a weak correlation between fluctuating participant and spectator symmetry planes. These observations open new possibilities for investigation of the initial conditions in heavy-ion collisions with spectator nucleons.

Abstract
A study was conducted at Rayagada district of Odisha, India, among smear-positive tuberculosis (TB) patients to determine the resistance pattern to first-line drugs. Sputum samples were collected from 405 new and 37 previously treated patients and were tested at Regional Medical Research Centre, Bhubaneswar. Resistance to any anti-tubercular drug was observed to be 5.2% among new cases and 16.1% among previously treated patients, while multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) was found to be 0% in new and 8.1% in previously treated cases. Such a low level of resistance may be due to the limited use of TB drugs outside the ongoing program.
