Abstract
Objective: To investigate the autofluorescence findings of retinal astrocytic hamartoma (RAH) in patients with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). Methods: It was a retrospective case series study. Twenty-three patients (35 eyes) who were referred to Department of Internal Medicine and Department of Ophthalmology, Peking Union Medical College Hospital between November 2012 and June 2018 with established TSC-associated RAH diagnosis were included. The findings of fundus autofluorescence, fundus photos and spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) were retrospectively reviewed. RAH lesions were classified into three types based on the morphology shown in fundus photos. The fundus autofluorescence features of TSC-associated RAH were described. The Welch's test and Fisher's exact test were used for statistical analysis. Results: The patients were 8 males and 15 females aged (28±9) years old (range, 15-55 years). Seventy-two RAH lesions were examined, including 59 type 1 RAHs, 7 type 2 RAHs and 6 type 3 RAHs. According to fundus autofluorescence, type 1 RAHs could be further divided into reduced, speckled and background autofluorescence patterns, among which the hypoautofluorescence pattern accounted for the majority (69.5%, 41/59), while the speckled pattern was usually accompanied by outer retinal disorganization and discontinuation of photoreceptor outer segment as revealed by SD-OCT. No significant difference was revealed in tumor thickness for reduced, speckled and background autofluorescence patterns of type 1 RAHs [(490.2±97.9) vs. (589.2±221.6) vs. (463.0±76.2) μm respectively, F=1.426, P=0.283]. Among type 1 RAHs, the number of reduced autofluorescence pattern lesions found in perifoveal, peripapillary, inferonasal, inferotemporal, superonasal, superotemporal quadrants were 9, 4, 4, 7, 4, 13 respectively, while that of speckled autofluorescence pattern lesions were 3, 0, 3, 2, 3, 2 and background autoflurorescence pattern lesions 3, 0, 1, 1, 0, 0. No significant difference was revealed in location distribution (P=0.452) either. Type 2 RAHs featured numerous hyperautofluorescent spots or plaques, and calcification in type 2 RAHs varied in autofluorescence intensity. Type 3 RAHs, combining the features of type 1 and 2 RAHs, were characterized by central hyperautofluorescent spots and hypoautoflurescent rim, but the area of hyperautofluorescence was smaller than that of calcification as shown in fundus photos. Conclusions: In TSC, the fundus autofluorescence of RAHs varies from hypoautofluorescence to hyperautofluorescence patterns according to RAH types. The retinal involvement and calcification degree of TSC-associated RAHs could be reflected on the autofluorescence, which was beneficial to the full assessment. Abstract
BACKGROUND Vascular targeted photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a novel and promising therapy for the treatment of port-wine stains (PWS). There has been little prior exploration to our knowledge of how the dermatological vascular pattern may predict the response to PDT. OBJECTIVES To analyse whether the vascular pattern classifications of PWS by dermoscopy can predict the efficacy of PDT. METHODS This prospective cohort study included 163 patients with a clinical diagnosis of PWS who were treated twice with hemoporfin-mediated photodynamic therapy (HMME-PDT) at two-month intervals and followed up for 6 months. The vascular manifestations of dermoscopy with PWS were independently classified into 8 categories by 3 dermatologists. Images of the lesions were taken using VISIA, and the vascular patterns were imaged by dermoscopy by the same investigator. Images were captured before and after each treatment. The efficacy was evaluated with pre- and post-treatment VISIA images, and correlations between efficacy and vascular patterns were analysed by four dermatologists in a blinded and independent manner, between 10 January 2019 and 11 December 2019. RESULTS In the dermoscopy images for the whole cohort, dotted and globular vessels (15.3%), short clubbed vessels (18.4%) and curved vessels (12.9%) were highly associated with cure and beneficial treatment effects. Pale halos surrounding brown dots (8.0%) and arborizing vessels (9.8%) were mainly correlated with skin lesion alleviation. Mixed vessels (12.9%), a grey-whitish veil (11.7%) and reticular patterns (11.0%) were mainly associated with no effect. The differences between each subgroup were statistically significant (P = 0.000). CONCLUSIONS There is a clear correlation between the efficacy of PDT and the dermoscopy pattern in patients with PWS. Dermoscopy may therefore provide very useful clinical information prior to treatment in these cases. In addition, the vascular manifestations of PWS determined by dermoscopy help to predict response to PDT and manage patient expectations.

Abstract
Probiotics are considered the preferred alternatives to antibiotics for growth promotion and disease prevention. Previous studies have confirmed that Diutina rugosa SD-17 has the potential as a probiotic. We evaluated the probiotic effect of D. rugosa SD-17 on 360 one-day-old Hy-line brown chickens that were divided into 2 groups, and each group contained 6 replicate pens with 30 birds per pen. The chickens were fed with basal diet supplemented with or without D. rugosa SD-17, and the effects of D. rugosa SD-17 on growth performance, intestine morphology, and immune status were assessed. Body weight was significantly improved from week 3 to 6 (P < 0.05), and the feed conversion ratio was significantly improved in weeks 1 and 2 (P < 0.001). The length of the duodenum was lengthened significantly in week 3 (P < 0.05), and supplementation of D. rugosa SD-17 significantly increased villus height and villus height to crypt depth ratio in the ileum in week 3 (P < 0.05). Expressions of tight-junction-related genes of zonula occludens-2 and occludin in the ileum were significantly increased (P < 0.05). The proliferation capacity of blood lymphocytes stimulated by concanavalin A was significantly enhanced (P < 0.05), and the proportion of helper T (Th) cells increased significantly (P < 0.05). Expressions of Th1 cell markers IL-2 and interferon (IFN)-γ and immune-related genes of IL-1β, transforming growth factor-β, and IFN-γ in ileum were significantly increased (P < 0.05). These results indicated that D. rugosa SD-17 improved the growth and regulated immunity of chickens, and could be optimized for use as a feed additive for livestock and poultry.

Abstract
Interaction cross sections for ^{42-51}Ca on a carbon target at 280 MeV/nucleon have been measured for the first time. The neutron number dependence of derived root-mean-square matter radii shows a significant increase beyond the neutron magic number N=28. Furthermore, this enhancement of matter radii is much larger than that of the previously measured charge radii, indicating a novel growth in neutron skin thickness. A simple examination based on the Fermi-type distribution, and mean field calculations point out that this anomalous enhancement of the nuclear size beyond N=28 results from an enlargement of the core by a sudden increase in the surface diffuseness of the neutron density distribution, which implies the swelling of the bare ^{48}Ca core in Ca isotopes beyond N=28.

Abstract
The authors report on nonconservative coupling in a passive silicon microring between its clockwise and counterclockwise resonance modes. The coupling coefficient is adjustable using a thermo-optic phase shifter. The resulting resonance of the supermodes due to nonconservative coupling is predicted in theory and demonstrated in experiments. This Letter paves the way for fundamental studies of on-chip lasers and quantum photonics, and their potential applications.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
Observational studies have reported conflicting results about the associations of iron status with risk of cardio-metabolic diseases but such studies are constrained by confounding and reverse causality.
Purpose
To assess the causal relevance of iron status biomarkers (transferrin, serum iron, and ferritin) for risk of coronary artery diseases (CAD), ischaemic stroke (IS), and type 2 diabetes (T2D), using Mendelian randomization (MR).
Methods
Effect size estimates for genetic variants associated with iron status biomarkers were obtained from the Genetics of Iron Status consortium (transferrin saturation, serum iron, and ferritin: n=48,972). The corresponding effects of these variants on the risk of CAD, IS and T2D were obtained from a meta-analysis of unrelated participants of European ancestry in the UK Biobank (UKB), together with previously recruited participants in CARDIOGRAMplusC4D (total n=90,377 CAD cases), MEGASTROKE (total n=43,381 IS cases) and DIAGRAM (total n=74,124 T2D cases), respectively. The main analysis used a two-sample inverse-variance weighted MR, while the sensitivity analyses used weighted-median, weighted-mode, MR-PRESSO, and MR-Egger approaches.
Results
MR analysis demonstrated significant inverse association of each of the three genetically-instrumented iron status biomarker with risk of CAD (transferrin saturation OR=0.96 [95% CI: 0.92–0.99], p=0.02; serum iron OR=0.93 [0.89–0.97], p=0.001; and ferritin OR=0.86 (0.79–0.94), p=0.001, per 1 SD higher level). In contrast, these iron status biomarkers showed positive associations with risk of T2D (transferrin saturation OR=1.06 [1.01–1.11], p=0.01; serum iron OR=1.06 [0.99–1.13], p=0.07; and ferritin OR=1.12 [0.99–1.26], p=0.06, per 1 SD higher level). There was positive, but non-significant, association of IS with each of the iron status biomarker analysed. Sensitivity analyses using several different MR approaches yielded concordant results.
Conclusions
Among European adults, iron status appeared to have causal associations, but in opposite directions, with the risk of CHD and T2D. Our findings highlight the need for caution about strategies for advocating iron supplementation in individuals with normal haemoglobin levels for prevention of CAD.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the relationship between cervical lesions and high risk HPV (HR-HPV) viral load reflected by the cycle threshold (Ct) values of Cobas 4800 HPV (Cobas 4800) system. Methods: From August 2016 to September 2017, 7 000 women from Shenzhen, were recruited for cervical cancer screening with Cobas 4800 system and cytology co-test. Colposcope biopsies were performed on women who were positive of HPV 16, 18, and positive of HPV types other than 16,18 with cytology [≥ atypical squamous cell of undetermined signification (ASCUS)], or HPV negative but abnormal of cytology [≥ low grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL)]. The Ct values of HPV 16, 18 and all combined other types coming from Cobas 4800 system were used as an indicator of viral load to analyze the relationship between type-specific HPV load and the cervical lesions. Results: (1) Among the 7 000 screening women, 370 cases were positive for cervical cancer screening, 325 of them underwent colposcope biopsies, and coloposcopy referred rate was 87.8% (325/370). Among 325 women undergoing cervical biopsy, pathological diagnosis was 119 cases of normal cervical cervix, 151 cases of LSIL, and 55 cases of high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL) and above (HSIL(+); including 53 cases of HSIL, 1 case of cervical adenocarcinoma, and 1 case of cervical squamous cell carcinoma). (2) The Ct value of HPV 16 was inversely correlated with the upgrading of the lesions (r=-0.617, P=0.000), and significant different among normal cervix,LSIL and HSIL(+) (35.4±4.5 vs 31.0±6.0 vs 26.5±4.0; F=25.537, P=0.000). There was no correlation between Ct value of HPV 18 and cervical lesions (r=-0.021, P=0.902). The Ct value of other 12 HPV types was statistically difference among normal normal cervix, HSIL(+) and cervicitis (33.0±5.3 vs 29.9±7.2 vs 29.8±5.8; F=5.087, P=0.007). Among them, LSIL and HSIL(+) were significantly lower than normal cervix (P<0.05), but there was no significant difference between LSIL and HSIL(+) (P>0.05). Conclusion: The Ct value of HPV 16 detecting in Cobas 4800 system as an indicator of virus load obviously correlates with different grades of cervical lesions, therefore could be a reference of cervical lesion existence and an indicator of lesion prognosis.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the feasibility of the BioPerfectus multiplex real time (BMRT) HPV assay for self-sample cervical cancer screening. Methods: Eight hundreds and thirty-nine self-collected and physician-obtained DNA samples from the Shenzhen cervical cancer screening trial Ⅳ(SHENCCAST-Ⅳ) study collected samples for cervical cancer screening during June 2013 to September 2014 were detected by BMRT HPV assay to evaluate the screening efficacy. Results: A total of the 839 women who were screened, 804 with complete BMRT HPV data was included in the study, and average age was (46±7) years. Of the 804 women, the positive rates of 14 high-risk HPV genotypes (including HPV 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 53, 56, 58, 59, 66 subtype) of self-sample and physician-obtained samples were 12.2% (98/804) and 12.8% (103/804), respectively (χ(2)=0.14, P=0.71). Self-collected samples with HPV-positive had significantly more cells (median 19 901.0) than physician-obtained samples (median 1 778.4), and there was statistically significant difference (Z=-7.61, P<0.01). The degree of agreement between self-sample and physician-obtained samples of HPV 16, HPV 18 and other 12 high risk HPV genotype was 99.8%, 100.0% and 96.1%, respectively. And the consistent Kappa value was 0.95, 1.00 and 0.81, respectively. Of 804 samples, there were 6 cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN)Ⅱ(+) cases. There were no missed CINⅡ(+) cases by BMRT HPV assay. Conclusion: BMRT HPV assay is feasible for self-sample cervical cancer screening.

Abstract
In this paper, we report the generation of an ultra-sharp asymmetric resonance spectrum through Fano-like interference. This generation is accomplished by weakly coupling a high-quality factor (Q factor) Fabry-Pérot (FP) cavity and a low-Q factor FP cavity through evanescent waves. The high-Q FP cavity is formed by Sagnac loop mirrors, whilst the low-Q one is built by partially transmitting Sagnac loop reflectors. The working principle has been analytically established and numerically modelled by using temporal coupled-mode-theory (CMT), and verified using a prototype device fabricated on the 340 nm silicon-on-insulator (SOI) platform, patterned by deep ultraviolet (DUV) lithography. Pronounced asymmetric resonances with slopes up to 0.77 dB/pm have been successfully measured, which, to the best of our knowledge, is higher than the results reported in state-of-the-art devices in on-chip integrated Si photonic studies. The established theoretical analysis method can provide excellent design guidelines for devices with Fano-like resonances. The design principle can be applied to ultra-sensitive sensing, ultra-high extinction ratio switching, and more applications.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Limitations of ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration include nondiagnostic, indeterminate cytology and false-negative results. The BRAF V600E mutation is a specific biomarker for papillary thyroid carcinoma. This study aimed to investigate the additional diagnostic role of the BRAF V600E mutation in high-risk thyroid nodules with benign cytology results. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 787 high-risk nodules in 720 patients underwent ultrasound-fine-needle aspiration. A subsequent BRAF V600E mutation test was performed on thyroid nodules with benign cytology. Final pathology confirmed thyroid nodules with benign cytology that were positive for the BRAF V600E mutation. Ultrasound was performed on thyroid nodules with benign cytology results that were negative for the BRAF V600E mutation. Fine-needle aspiration was repeated on thyroid nodules with enlarged size or changed ultrasound features. RESULTS Among the 787 nodules, 292 thyroid nodules had benign cytology results with 256 nodules negative for the BRAF V600E mutation and 36 nodules positive for the BRAF V600E mutation. Thirty-one nodules positive for the BRAF V600E mutation were confirmed malignant, and 5 nodules were confirmed benign by pathology. Fine-needle aspiration was repeated on 11 enlarged thyroid nodules with benign cytology findings that were negative for the BRAF V600E mutation. The results of repeat fine-needle aspiration were 4 benign nodules, 2 follicular neoplasms or suspected follicular neoplasms, 3 suspected malignancies, and 2 malignant nodules. Among the 36 thyroid nodules positive for the BRAF V600E mutation, 25 (69.4%) had ≥2 suspicious ultrasound features and 11 (30.6%) nodules had 1 suspicious ultrasound feature. CONCLUSIONS The BRAF V600E mutation test can detect papillary thyroid carcinomas that might be missed by fine-needle aspiration. We recommend that fine-needle aspiration be routinely accompanied by the BRAF V600E mutation test in high-risk thyroid nodules with ≥2 suspicious ultrasound features.

Abstract
Kawasaki disease (KD) is an immune-mediated vasculitis with symptoms that mimic febrile illness; the immune origin has been suggested but never proved. First, cell chip technology was used to screen immune targets cells. With the indirect immunofluorescence assay we found that the HeLa cell chip could be recognized by KD patient serum samples. The target cell proteome was extracted as antigens, and antigen recognition reaction was performed using the patients' serum as antibodies and the detected target protein was detected and identified as phosphoglycerate kinase 1 (PGK1). Then PGK1 was produced and tested with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), Western blotting, immunoprecipitation and competitive inhibition immunofluorescence assay. Immunoglobulin (Ig)G against PGK1 was detected in 46% (23 of 50) sera of KD patients, 13% (five of 38) sera in febrile non-KD patients (FC) and 2·6% (one of 38) sera in healthy donors. As an immune target, PGK1 not only helps understanding of the pathogenesis, it also has potential value in facilitating the laboratory diagnosis of KD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of epidemiologic and physician-diagnosed pollen-induced AR (PiAR) in the grasslands of northern China and to study the impact of the intensity and time of pollen exposure on PiAR prevalence. METHODS A multistage, clustered and proportionately stratified random sampling with a field interviewer-administered survey study was performed together with skin prick tests (SPT) and measurements of the daily pollen count. RESULTS A total of 6043 subjects completed the study, with a proportion of 32.4% epidemiologic AR and 18.5% PiAR. The prevalence was higher in males than females (19.6% vs 17.4%, P = .024), but no difference between the two major residential and ethnic groups (Han and Mongolian) was observed. Subjects from urban areas showed higher prevalence of PiAR than rural areas (23.1% vs 14.0%, P < .001). Most PiAR patients were sensitized to two or more pollens (79.4%) with artemisia, chenopodium, and humulus scandens being the most common pollen types, which were similarly found as the top three sensitizing pollen allergens by SPT. There were significant regional differences in the prevalence of epidemiologic AR (from 18.6% to 52.9%) and PiAR (from 10.5% to 31.4%) among the six areas investigated. PiAR symptoms were positively associated with pollen counts, temperature, and precipitation (P < .05), but negatively with wind speed and pressure P < .05). CONCLUSION Pollen-induced AR (PiAR) prevalence in the investigated region is extremely high due to high seasonal pollen exposure, which was influenced by local environmental and climate conditions.

Abstract
Perovskites such as SrTiO3, BaTiO3, and CaTiO3 have become key materials for future energy-efficient memristive data storage and logic applications due to their ability to switch their resistance reversibly upon application of an external voltage. This resistance switching effect is based on the evolution of nanoscale conducting filaments with different stoichiometry and structure than the original oxide. In order to design and optimize memristive devices, a fundamental understanding of the interaction between electrochemical stress, stoichiometry changes and phase transformations is needed. Here, we follow the approach of investigating these effects in a macroscopic model system. We show that by applying a DC voltage under reducing conditions on a perovskite slab it is possible to induce stoichiometry polarization allowing for a controlled decomposition related to incongruent sublimation of the alkaline earth metal starting in the surface region. This way, self-formed mesoporous layers can be generated which are fully depleted by Sr (or Ba, Ca) but consist of titanium oxides including TiO and Ti3O with tens of micrometre thickness. This illustrates that phase transformations can be induced easily by electrochemical driving forces.

Abstract
Floral colour is a key reproductive character, often associated with environmental adaptation, and subject to human intervention. A large number of Rhododendron species differ widely in flower colour, providing a good model for flower colouration. The chromatic features and anthocyanin compositions of 30 species from seven subgenera were systematically analysed. The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart and CIE L*a*b* system were employed to describe and investigate flower colours. The UPLC-PDA/ESI-MSn system was used to identify and quantify anthocyanins in petal extracts. The flower colours of 30 Rhododendron species were categorised into four groups - red, purplish pink, purple and white. Seven anthocyanins were identified and quantified in petals: delphinidin, cyanidin and malvidin 3-O-arabinoside-5-O-glucosides, cyanidin 3,5-di-O-glucoside, 3-O-galactoside and 3-O-arabinoside, and delphinidin 3-O-glucoside. The red-flowered species mainly contained cyanidin monoglycosides and had much higher total anthocyanin content than purplish pink- and purple-flowered species. Purplish pink- and purple-flowered species had similar anthocyanin types and content. The chromatic differences were significant among groups, except the purplish pink and purple groups. Statistical analysis showed that Cy3Gal and Cy3Arb are characteristic for red-flowered species, and Mv3Arb5G and Dp3Arb5G play important roles in purple colouration; their contents were major components that greatly affected the chromatic parameters. In total, 21 flavonol derivates were identified. However, total flavonol content and co-pigmentation index showed no significant difference or correlation among/with colour groups, suggesting that flavonols might not play a major role in colouration. These results enhance our knowledge of the biochemical basis of flower colouration in Rhododendron species, and provide a foundation for genetic variation studies and aid in breeding cultivars with novel flower colours.

Abstract
High levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which may be associated with reduced sperm quality, can be detected during cryopreservation of sperm of some species. Our objective was to investigate whether the addition of antioxidants to cryopreservation extenders influenced post-thaw sperm characteristics and fertility in Acipenser dabryanus, Acipenser sinensis and Acipenser baerii. Prior to freezing, sperm samples were diluted with a base extender as control or in extender supplemented with catalase (CAT), glutathione (GSH), cysteine (NAC), ascorbic acid (VC) or their paired combinations. Protective concentrations of CAT, GSH and VC in the three species were 25 U/ml, 0.25-0.5 mg/ml and 0.5 mg/ml, respectively. Cysteine showed no protective effect against ROS. The addition of CAT, GSH and VC positively affected either acrosome or membrane integrity of post-thawed sperm in the three species, as well as spermatozoan motility in A. sinensis. The combination of antioxidants did not show a positive synergistic effect. This study suggested that the use of antioxidants in the cryopreservation of sturgeon sperm has potential to decrease intracellular ROS, and consequently preserve acrosome and membrane integrity, as well as spermatozoan motility.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Alzheimer's disease (AD) has been considered as a metabolic disorder disease, which closely related to insulin signaling impairment. Therefore, identifying the potential mechanism of insulin resistance is important for AD treatment. MATERIALS AND METHODS An APP/PS1 double transgenic AD mouse model was introduced to study insulin resistance in gut. The expressions of AD markers and key elements of insulin signaling were detected in ileum and intestinal macrophages of AD mice by immunohistochemistry. Furthermore, mouse intestinal macrophage cell line RAW264.7 was treated by Aβ25-35 or Aβ25-35 + insulin to explore the mechanism of insulin resistance in vitro. The expression of IR-β and the activation of cell signaling related proteins (Insulin receptor substrate 1 (IRS1), protein kinase B (AKT) and c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK)) in Aβ25-35-stimulated macrophages were performed via Western blotting. RESULTS The expressions of IRS1, Aβ and Tuj in AD mice ileum were significantly different from WT mice (p<0.05). Also, there were significant discrepancies in the expressions of β2AR and eNOS in intestinal macrophages of two groups (p<0.05). After exposure to Aβ25-35, cell proliferation rate (p<0.01) of macrophage and the levels of TNF-α (p<0.01) and Il-6 (p<0.01) was significant elevated and treatment with insulin could reverse these changes (p<0.05). The amount of IR-β and the p-AKT/AKT ratio significantly decreased in Aβ25-35-treated macrophages (p<0.01), while the ratios of p-IRS1/IRS1 and p-JNK/JNK significantly enlarged (p<0.01). Furthermore, all the changes caused by Aβ25-35 treatment were attenuated by insulin addition. CONCLUSIONS Activation of JNK pathway played an important role in insulin resistance of AD mice, suggesting that inhibition of JNK pathway might be a new strategy toward resolving insulin resistance related diseases, such as AD.

Abstract
Objective: The study aimed to investigate whether sample sizes of F-wave study differed according to different nerves, different F-wave parameters, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS) patients or healthy subjects. Methods: The F-waves in the median, ulnar, tibial, and deep peroneal nerves of 55 amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) patients and 52 healthy subjects were studied to assess the effect of sample size on the accuracy of measurements of the following F-wave parameters: F-wave minimum latency, maximum latency, mean latency, F-wave persistence, F-wave chronodispersion, mean and maximum F-wave amplitude. A hundred stimuli were used in F-wave study. The values obtained from 100 stimuli were considered "true" values and were compared with the corresponding values from smaller samples of 20, 40, 60 and 80 stimuli. F-wave parameters obtained from different sample sizes were compared between the ALS patients and the normal controls. Results: Significant differences were not detected with samples above 60 stimuli for chronodispersion in all four nerves in normal participants. Significant differences were not detected with samples above 40 stimuli for maximum F-wave amplitude in median, ulnar and tibial nerves in normal participants. When comparing ALS patients and normal controls, significant differences were detected in the maximum (median nerve, Z=-3.560, P<0.01; ulnar nerve, t=5.019, P<0.01; tibial nerve, Z=-2.475, P<0.05; peroneal nerve, Z=-2.088, P<0.05)and mean F-wave latency (median nerve, Z=-3.243, P<0.01; ulnar nerve, t=3.876, P<0.01; tibial nerve, Z=-2.206, P<0.05; peroneal nerve, Z=-2.205, P<0.05)in all four nerves, F-wave chronodispersion (Z=-3.152, P<0.01)in the ulnar nerve, F-wave persistence in the median (Z=6.139, P<0.01)and ulnar nerves(Z=5.350, P<0.01), mean F-wave amplitude in the tibial nerve(t=2.981, P<0.01), maximum F-wave amplitude in the ulnar (Z=-2.134, P<0.05)and tibial nerves (t=2.746, P<0.01)with 20 stimuli; for chronodispersion in tibial nerve (t=2.551, P<0.05)100 stimuli, for chronodispersion in peroneal nerve (Z=-2.086, P<0.05)80 stimuli, for F-wave persistence in tibial nerve (Z=2.119, P<0.05) 60 stimuli, for mean F-wave amplitude in ulnar (Z=-2.552, P<0.05)and peroneal nerve (Z=-2.228, P<0.05)40 stimuli, for maximum F-wave amplitude in peroneal nerve (t=2.693, P<0.01)60 stimuli were necessary to detect differences. Conclusions: Sample sizes of F-wave study differed according to different nerves, different F-wave parameters , and ALS patients or healthy subjects.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Nitric oxide (NO) and mast cells (MCs) are possibly involved in the development of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), but details on their role and interactions still remain undetermined. We aimed to investigate the expression of inducible NO synthase (iNOS) in MCs of the colon of IBS with diarrhea (IBS-D), and elucidated a potential role of NO in the differential regulation of cytokines in MCs. METHODS Colonic mucosal biopsies of 19 IBS-D patients and 16 healthy controls were collected. The expression of tryptase and iNOS was investigated by immunohistochemistry, Western blotting, and real-time PCR. Effects of NO on the expression of cytokines in rat bone marrow MCs (BMMCs) were examined using a cytokine array by NG-nitro-l-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) treatment. KEY RESULTS Immunohistochemistry for tryptase revealed an increase in number of MCs with extensive iNOS expression in the colonic mucosa of IBS-D. Tryptase, iNOS and interleukin (IL)-1β mRNA and protein levels were upregulated in IBS-D compared with healthy controls. Specifically, a positive correlation between tryptase and iNOS protein expression was observed in the colon of IBS-D (r = 0.667, p < 0.05). Supernatant from IBS-D increased iNOS expression in BMMCs. Antibody array showed that agrin, beta-nerve growth factor, fractalkine, granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor, IL-1β, IL-1R6, IL-13, leptin, tumor necrosis factor alpha were suppressed, and cytokine-induced neutrophil chemoattractant (CINC)-1, CINC-2α, CINC-3, monocyte chemotactic protein-1, matrix metalloproteinase-8 were strongly produced in L-NAME treated BMMCs, comparable to levels in the control group. CONCLUSIONS & INFERENCES Our findings provide new evidence that NO is able to regulate many cytokines in MCs that may be involved in the development of IBS.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of three new high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) assays for primary cervical cancer screening, by using self-collected samples, and to identify an HPV assay that could overcome the major obstacles faced during large-scale population-based screening. Two hundred and ten women showing abnormal cervical cytology (and referred for a colposcopy) were recruited in this study. Self-collected samples obtained from all women were tested with the Cobas, Seq, and BioPerfectus Multiplex Real Time HPV assays; simultaneously, clinician-collected samples (from the same women) were tested with the gold-standard Cobas HPV assay. The results of all the assays were consistent. The sensitivity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia 2+ (CIN2+) and CIN3+ were comparable between the self-collected samples tested with the three new assays and the clinician-collected samples tested with the Cobas HPV assay (P > 0.05). The single-genotype HPV load per sample did not differ significantly between the self- and clinician-collected samples (P = 0.195). In conclusion, the results of this study demonstrated the applicability of the three new HPV assays for primary cervical cancer screening based on self-collection.

Abstract
Studies of genetic diversity and genetic population structure are critical for the conservation and management of endangered species. The Chinese sucker Myxocyprinus asiaticus is a vulnerable monotypic species in China, which is at a risk of decline owing to fluctuations in effective population size and other demographic and environmental factors. We screened 11 microsatellite loci in 214 individuals to assess genetic differentiation in both wild and cultured populations. The single extant wild population had a higher number of alleles (13) than the cultured populations (average 7.3). High levels of genetic diversity, expressed as observed and expected heterozygosity (HO = 0.771, HE = 0.748, respectively), were found in both wild and cultured populations. We also report significant differentiation among wild and cultured populations (global FST = 0.023, P < 0.001). Both STRUCTURE analysis and neighbor-joining tree revealed three moderately divergent primary genetic clusters: the wild Yangtze population and the Sichuan population were each identified as an individual cluster, with the remaining populations clustered together. Twenty-two samples collected from the Yangtze River were assigned to the cultured population, demonstrating the efficacy of artificial propagation to avoid drastic reduction in the population size of M. asiaticus. These genetic data support the endangered status of the M. asiaticus and have implications for conservation management planning.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study is to analyze application effects of specialized emergency nursing mode based on Global Registry Acute Coronary Events (GRACE) scoring system on Acute Coronary System (ACS) patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS 135 ACS cases in this hospital of the same period were selected and they were divided into control group (65 cases) and observation group (70 cases) according to random number method and their order of hospitalization. The standard specialized nursing mode was applied in the control group while specialized nursing mode based on GRACE scoring system was applied in observation group to compare treatment effects. RESULTS We found that average time of Door-to-Balloon, surgery time and length of stay in observation group were shortened and the occurrence rate of complications during and after surgery was significantly lowered. The remedy achievement ratio and satisfaction scores on nursing are increased and differences were of statistical significance (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS The stratified nursing was used to ACS patients based on GRACE scoring system, which was able to significantly increase remedy achievement ratio and decrease complications and, therefore, nursing quality is improved.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chili consumption may have a beneficial effect on muscle strength in the general population. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between frequency of chili consumption and handgrip strength in adults. DESIGN Population-based cross-sectional study. SETTING This study used baseline data from the Tianjin Chronic Low-grade Systemic Inflammation and Health Cohort Study. PARTICIPANTS A total of 3 717 subjects were recruited to the study. Frequency of chili consumption during the previous month was assessed using a valid self-administered food frequency questionnaire. Analysis of covariance was used to examine the relationship between muscle strength and frequency of chili consumption. Handgrip strength was measured using a handheld digital dynamometer. RESULTS After adjustment for potential confounding factors, significant relationships were observed between different categories of chili consumption and handgrip strength in males, the means (95% confidence interval) for handgrip strength across chili consumption categories were 44.7 (42.1, 47.2) for < one time/week; 45.5 (42.9, 48.1) for one time/week; and 45.8 (43.3, 48.4) for ≥ 2-3 times/week (P for trend < 0.01). Similar results were not observed with sweet pepper consumption. CONCLUSIONS This study reveals a positive correlation between frequency of chili consumption and muscle strength in adult males. Further studies are necessary in order to determine whether there is a causal relationship between chili consumption frequency and muscle strength.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the effects of atorvastatin combined with trimetazidine on periprocedural myocardial injury and serum inflammatory mediators in unstable angina pectoris (UAP) patients following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) treatment. PATIENTS AND METHODS 90 patients with UAP treated with conventional medications and PCI were recruited and were randomly divided into the control group and the experimental group. The control group had 42 patients were treated with atorvastatin alone, while the experimental group had 48 cases treated with atorvastatin combined with trimetazidine. All the patients were checked the preoperative 24h and postoperative 24h PCI concentrations of cardiac troponin I (cTnI), hypersensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), serum interferon-γ (IFN-γ) and interlukin-10 (IL-10). RESULTS At the pre-PCI stage, every serum factors was no significant difference. 24 hours after the PCI intervention, the occurence of abnormal cTnI level in the experimental group was remarkable reduced than the control group. In the experimental group, the serum levels of TNF-α and IFN-γ significantly decreased (p < 0.05); while IL-10 was increased. In the control group, all the mediators were increased significantly except the hs-CRP (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS No unexpected symptom was found in patients with large dose atorvastatin combined with large dose trimetazidine. The administration of conventional medications together with the atorvastatin plus trimetazidine were able to reduce the prevalence of postoperative myocardial injury.
