Abstract
SuperCam is a highly integrated remote-sensing instrumental suite for NASA's Mars 2020 mission. It consists of a co-aligned combination of Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS), Time-Resolved Raman and Luminescence (TRR/L), Visible and Infrared Spectroscopy (VISIR), together with sound recording (MIC) and high-magnification imaging techniques (RMI). They provide information on the mineralogy, geochemistry and mineral context around the Perseverance Rover. The calibration of this complex suite is a major challenge. Not only does each technique require its own standards or references, their combination also introduces new requirements to obtain optimal scientific output. Elemental composition, molecular vibrational features, fluorescence, morphology and texture provide a full picture of the sample with spectral information that needs to be co-aligned, correlated, and individually calibrated. The resulting hardware includes different kinds of targets, each one covering different needs of the instrument. Standards for imaging calibration, geological samples for mineral identification and chemometric calculations or spectral references to calibrate and evaluate the health of the instrument, are all included in the SuperCam Calibration Target (SCCT). The system also includes a specifically designed assembly in which the samples are mounted. This hardware allows the targets to survive the harsh environmental conditions of the launch, cruise, landing and operation on Mars during the whole mission. Here we summarize the design, development, integration, verification and functional testing of the SCCT. This work includes some key results obtained to verify the scientific outcome of the SuperCam system.

Abstract
Chemical inhibitors are invaluable tools for investigating protein function in reverse genetic approaches. Their application bears many advantages over mutant generation and characterization. Inhibitors can overcome functional redundancy, their application is not limited to species for which tools of molecular genetics are available and they can be applied to specific tissues or developmental stages, making them highly convenient for addressing biological questions. The use of inhibitors has helped to elucidate hormone biosynthesis and signaling pathways and here we review compounds that were developed for the plant hormones brassinosteroids (BRs). BRs are steroids that have strong growth-promoting capacities, are crucial for all stages of plant development and participate in adaptive growth processes and stress response reactions. In the last two decades, impressive progress has been made in BR inhibitor development and application, which has been instrumental for studying BR modes of activity and identifying and characterizing key players. Both, inhibitors that target biosynthesis, such as brassinazole, and inhibitors that target signaling, such as bikinin, exist and in a comprehensive overview we summarize knowledge and methodology that enabled their design and key findings of their use. In addition, the potential of BR inhibitors for commercial application in plant production is discussed.

Abstract
Abstract
Objective
This study examines the correlation between age of immigration for Spanish speakers in the USA and their performance on the Córdoba Naming Test (CNT), a confrontation naming test designed to be multicultural. We predicted that those who immigrated at a later age, whom we expect to have more years of education in their native language, will perform better on the CNT.
Method
The study used the CNT with a sample of 44 Spanish-speakers from the United States. We worked with participants with no prior history of medical complications, such as damage to the central nervous system, drug use, or excessive alcohol use. 21 male and 23 female participants were recruited. The age of participants ranged from 20 to 89 years old and education ranged from 0 to 22 years of schooling (either in the United States or in their native country). The variables of focus are the age of immigration into the United States (when participants migrated into the US) and their test performance on the CNT (total score of correct responses).
Results
Our results indicate a statistically significant positive correlation between age of immigration and performance on the CNT, (r(44)) = .357, p = .019). Conclusions: The overall trend of the data suggested that older age at immigration was indeed associated with better performance on the CNT, thus highlighting the importance of language and acculturation issues when being assessed with neuropsychological or cognitive testing.

Abstract
Between 2015 and the beginning of 2018 (January-March), 30 cetaceans were found stranded along the Ligurian Sea coast of Italy. Necropsies were performed in 22 cases and infectious diseases resulted the most common cause of death. Three striped dolphins, showed a severe coinfection involving the monophasic variant of Salmonella Typhimurium (Salmonella 1,4,[5],12:i:-). The isolates were characterized based on antimicrobial resistance, Multiple-Locus Variable-number tandem-repeat Analysis (MLVA) and whole-genome sequencing (WGS). All isolates demonstrated the same multidrug resistant genotype (ASSuT isolates), showed three different MLVA profiles, two of which closely related, and were identified as Sequence Type 34. Moreover, Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) analysis confirmed strong correlations between two out of the three isolates. To our knowledge, S. 1,4,[5],12:i:-, one of the most common serovars in cases of human infection and food sources worldwide, has not previously been described in marine mammals, and reports of Salmonella-associated disease in free-ranging cetaceans are rare. These results highlight the role of cetaceans as sentinel species for zoonotic and terrestrial pathogens in the marine environment, suggest a potential risk for cetaceans and public health along the North Western Italian coastline and indicate cetaceans as a novel potential reservoir for one of the most widespread Salmonella serovars.

Abstract
Few studies have examined the relationship between non-immunological factors and glomerular filtration rate (GFR) decline in kidney transplant. Correcting these factors in native kidneys slows the progression of chronic kidney disease. The aim of this study was to analyze the association between the control of non-immunological factors and the annual decline of GFR. METHODS A single-center, retrospective study was performed. We included 128 patients who received kidney transplants between 2000 and 2015, with at least 1-year post-transplant follow-up. Clinical records were reviewed. GFR was estimated by CKD-EPI. Three groups were defined according to the annual change in eGFR (ΔGFR 2016-1015): non-progressors (> -1 mL/min/1.73 m2), slow progressors (> -1 and < -5 mL/min/1.73 m2), and fast progressors (< -5 mL/min/1.73 m2). Percentage of achievement of KDIGO target was also analyzed. RESULTS The mean GFR was 62.5 mL/min/1.73 m2. Glomerulonephritis was the most common cause of kidney failure (36%). When the fast progressor group was compared with the non-progressor group, they differed significantly in age-patients were younger (40 ± 12.3 vs 45 ± 13.1 years)-post-transplant body mass index (27.4 ± 5.6 vs 25.2 x ± 5.9 kg/m2), and serum uric acid, which was significantly higher (6.4 ± 1.7 vs 5.5 ± 1.58 mg/dL). There were no differences between the groups with regard to blood pressure, dyslipidemia, proteinuria, or venous bicarbonate. Target systolic blood pressure was achieved by 45% of patients. Biopsy-proven acute rejection was higher in the fast progression group, although this was not statistically significant (13 [24.5%] vs 8 [13.1%]). CONCLUSIONS High body mass index was associated with a faster decline in glomerular filtration rate in this study. Target blood pressure <140/90 mm Hg was achieved in less than 50% of cases.

Abstract
Abstract
Background: Reported 10-year survival rates in Caucasian, black, and Hispanic women with breast cancer are 80%, 66%, and 78%, respectively. One barrier to understanding disparities in these survival rates is the lack of data due to underrepresentation in clinical trials (including black, Hispanic, Native American, and Pacific Islander populations). US physicians at sites that treat minority patients with breast cancer identified lack of access to and financial burden of clinical trials as 2 key barriers to enrollment. Insufficient knowledge of genetic mutations specific to breast cancer is also a key barrier to identifying ideal treatment to extend survival in minorities. Patient-specific initiatives for the CompLEEment-1 study (CLEE011A2404; NCT02941926), a single-arm, international Phase 3b study of ribociclib (600 mg/d, 3 weeks on/1 week off) plus letrozole (2.5 mg/d) in adults with hormone receptor–positive, human epidermal growth factor–negative advanced breast cancer, were developed in the United States to increase the enrollment of diverse populations and better understand the disease and patient response to treatment.
Methods: The enrollment initiatives included formation of a board of leading physicians and academics to advise on awareness initiatives and the cultural competency of tools used in clinical trials, a site selection process that brought the trial to the patient's clinic, a simplified expense reimbursement program to reduce patient economic burden, and partnerships with the Bridge Group and the National Black Church Initiative to bring clinical trial awareness and education to the African American church community. A tumor collection companion study (NCT03050398) was created to identify mechanisms of resistance among racial and ethnic groups. These initiatives aimed to increase the percentage of minorities from previous trials (eg, 5.7% in the MONALEESA-2 trial) and identify potential biological differences associated with race or ethnicity that might affect treatment response.
Results: Enrollment in the CompLEEment-1 study is ongoing. Among the first 57 US patients enrolled, 8 (14.0%) were minorities (not identified as Caucasian or Asian), 32 (56.1%) were <65 years old, 7 (12.3%) were premenopausal women, and 2 (3.5%) were men. Thirty-one patients were enrolled in the simplified expense reimbursement program. Of the open study sites, 35 (52.2%) were located >30 miles outside of metropolitan areas. Of the open study sites with enrolled patients, 16 enrolled 1, 8 enrolled 2, and 5 enrolled ≥3 patients.
Conclusions: Following discussions with physicians and assessments of patient feedback to identify reasons for underrepresentation of minority patient populations in clinical trials, patient-centered initiatives were developed for the CompLEEment-1 study in the United States to simultaneously reduce barriers to trial participation, reduce economic burden of enrolled patients, and identify biomarkers of therapeutic sensitivity and resistance. These initiatives resulted in an initial increase in the percentage of minorities enrolled to better reflect real-world populations.

Abstract
Intrasexual competition can be defined as the struggle between members of one sex to increase their access to members of the other sex as sexual partners. In our species, height is a sexually dimorphic trait probably involved in both intrasexual and intersexual selective processes. In the present research, we examined the relationship between height and individual differences in intrasexual competitiveness (i.e., the tendency to view same-sex interactions in general in competitive terms) in two populations of adolescents and adults of both sexes in Chile. According to our first prediction, among both adolescent and adult men, height was negatively associated with intrasexual competitiveness. In contrast, among women, height was not linearly nor quadratically related with intrasexual competitiveness as previously reported. Finally, adolescent men and women showed increased levels of intrasexual competitiveness compared to adult same-sex counterparts. Our results suggest that height is a relevant trait in mating competition among men. The lack of relationship between height and intrasexual competitiveness in women may suggest that the role of height in women mating competition may be more complex and mediated by other variables.

Abstract
The variability of seawater temperature through time is a critical measure of climate change, yet its reconstruction remains problematic in many regions. Mg/Ca and oxygen isotope (δ18OC) measurements in foraminiferal carbonate shells can be combined to reconstruct seawater temperature and δ18O (δ18OSW). The latter is a measure of changes in local hydrology (e.g., precipitation/evaporation, freshwater inputs) and global ice volume. But diagenetic processes may affect foraminiferal Mg/Ca. This restricts its potential in many places, including the Mediterranean Sea, a strategic region for deciphering global climate and sea-level changes. High alkalinity/salinity conditions especially bias Mg/Ca temperatures in the eastern Mediterranean (eMed). Here we advance the understanding of both western Mediterranean (wMed) and eMed hydrographic variability through the penultimate glacial termination (TII) and last interglacial, by applying the clumped isotope (Δ47) paleothermometer to planktic foraminifera with a novel data-processing approach. Results suggest that North Atlantic cooling during Heinrich stadial 11 (HS11) affected surface-water temperatures much more in the wMed (during winter/spring) than in the eMed (during summer). The method’s paired Δ47 and δ18OC data also portray δ18OSW. These records reveal a clear HS11 freshwater signal, which attenuated toward the eMed, and also that last interglacial surface warming in the eMed was strongly amplified by water-column stratification during the deposition of the organic-rich (sapropel) interval known as S5.

Abstract
Current non-surgical treatments for lumbar radiculopathy [e.g. epidural steroids and Tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) antagonists] are neither effective nor safe. As a non-toxic natural product, curcumin possesses an exceptional anti-inflammatory profile. We hypothesised that curcumin alleviates lumbar radiculopathy by attenuating neuroinflammation, oxidative stress and nociceptive factors. In a dorsal root ganglion (DRG) culture, curcumin effectively inhibited TNF-α-induced neuroinflammation, in a dose-dependent manner, as shown by mRNA and protein expression of IL-6 and COX-2. Such effects might be mediated via protein kinase B (AKT) and extracellular signal regulated kinase (ERK) pathways. Also, a similar effect in combating TNF-α-induced neuroinflammation was observed in isolated primary neurons. In addition, curcumin protected neurons from TNF-α-triggered excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and cellular apoptosis and, accordingly, promoted mRNA expression of the anti-oxidative enzymes haem oxygenase-1, catalase and superoxide dismutase-2. Intriguingly, electronic von Frey test suggested that intraperitoneal injection of curcumin significantly abolished ipsilateral hyperalgesia secondary to disc herniation in mice, for up to 2 weeks post-surgery. Such in vivo pain alleviation could be attributed to the suppression, observed in DRG explant culture, of TNF-α-elicited neuropeptides, such as substance P and calcitonin gene-related peptide. Surprisingly, micro-computed tomography (μCT) data suggested that curcumin treatment could promote disc height recovery following disc herniation. Alcian blue/picrosirius red staining confirmed that systemic curcumin administration promoted regeneration of extracellular matrix proteins, visualised by presence of abundant newly-formed collagen and proteoglycan content in herniated disc. Our study provided pre-clinical evidence for expediting this natural, non-toxic pleiotropic agent to become a new and safe clinical treatment of radiculopathy.

Abstract
IntroductionClozapine (CZP) is the only antipsychotic approved for resistant schizophrenia 1. Due to its side effects, CZP is not the first therapeutic option in a psychotic episode. Its anticholinergic effects often cause constipation, however, diarrhea have also been described in literature.ObjectivesWe describe a patient with two episodes of severe diarrhea after clozapine initiation, which lead to CZP discontinuation.AimsDiscuss about the differential diagnosis of diarrhea in CZP patients and the needing of a further studies for clarify the more appropriate management in CZP induced diarrhea.MethodsWe present a case report of a 46 years man diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder who presented two episodes of severe diarrhea with fever, which forced his transfer to internal medicine and UCI after CZP initiation.ResultsAt the first episode analytical, radiological and histological findings led to Crohn's disease diagnosis, which required budesonide and mesalazine treatment. In the second episode, the digestive team concluded that the episode was due to clozapine toxicity despite the controversial findings (clostridium toxin and Crohn's compatible biopsies)ConclusionsDiarrhea caused by CZP has been controversial in the literature. However due to the severity of digestive episodes and the paucity of alternative treatments further studies for a better understanding of its physiopathology are warranted.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

Abstract
IntroductionHyponatraemia occurs in 4% of schizophrenic patients. Dilutional hyponatraemia, due to inappropriate retention of water and excretion of sodium, occurs with different psychotropic medications and could lead to hippocampal dysfunction. This complication is usually asymptomatic but can cause severe problems, as lethargy and confusion, difficult to diagnose in mentally ill patients.ObjectivesTo describe a case of a patient with psychotropic poli-therapy, admitted three times due to hyponatremia and the pharmacological changes that improved his condition.AimsTo broadcast the intermittent hyponatraemia and polydipsia (PIP), a not rare condition, suffered by treated schizophrenic patients and discuss its physiopathology and treatment thorough a case report.MethodsA 56-year schizophrenic male was admitted for presenting disorganized behavior, agitation, auditory hallucinations, disorientation, ataxia, vomits and urinary retention. He was on clomipramine, haloperidol and clotiapine (recently added), quetiapine, fluphenazine and clonazepam. After water restriction his symptoms improved and he was discharged. Twenty-five days later, he was readmitted for presenting the same symptoms and after water restriction, he was discharged. Five days later, he was again admitted and transferred to the psychiatric ward.ResultsHaloperidol, fluphenazine and clomipramine were replaced by clozapine. These changes lead him to normalize the hypoosmolality and reduce his water-voracity. Endocrinology team did not label this episode of SIADH due to its borderline blood and urine parameters.ConclusionsHyponatremia is frequent in schizophrenic patients and may have severe consequences. Therefore, a prompt recognition and treatment is warranted.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

Abstract
According to EU regulation, genetically modified (GM) plants considered to be allergenic have to be assessed concerning their endogenous allergens before placement on the EU market, in line with the international standards described in Codex Alimentarius. Under such premises, a quantitative relevant increase in allergens might occur in GM plants as an unintended effect compared with conventionally produced crops, which could pose a risk to consumers. Currently, data showing a connection between dose and allergic sensitisation are scarce since the pathophysiological mechanisms of sensitisation are insufficiently understood. In contrast, data on population dose-distribution relationships acquired by oral food challenge are available showing a connection between quantity of allergenic protein consumed and the population of allergic individuals experiencing reactions. Soybean is currently the only recognised allergenic GM food by law for which EFSA has received applications and was therefore taken as an example for defining an assessment strategy. Identification of potential allergens, methodology for quantification as well as risk assessment considerations, are discussed. A strategy is proposed for the identification, assessment and evaluation of potential hazards/risks concerning endogenous allergenicity in food derived from plants developed by biotechnology. This approach could be expanded to other allergenic foods in the future, whenever required.

Abstract
Abstract
Introduction: The addition of Trastuzumab(T) to chemotherapy (CT) revolutionized HER2-positive breast cancer(BC) and changed its natural history. We reviewed the efficacy of T outside clinical trials in a cancer comprehensive center.
Methods: Ambiespective and descriptive study was conducted in Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO-Barcelona). Estimates of progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were obtained with the Kaplan-Meier method and compared with LogRank test. The association of clinic-pathological variables and outcome was studied by χ2and Cox proportional hazard analysis.
Results: 430 consecutive early HER2-positive BC patients (pts) were treated with adjuvant/neoadjuvant T and CT from Jan 2005 to Dec 2012. Pt basal characteristics are reported in Table 1. Neoadjuvant treatment was administrated in 230pts (54%) and in 200 (46%) in adjuvancy. Pathological complete response (pCR) in breast and nodes (ypT0/isypN0) was achieved in 48% of pts, with higher rates in hormone receptor (HR)-negative pts (62 vs 37% p=0.0005). Median duration of T: 10.6 months (m). 28%pts treated with neoadjuvant T+CT who achieved a pCR did not receive adjuvant T. Treatment discontinuation: 38pts (8.8%): 27pts due to cardiac toxicity and 4 relapsed during adjuvant T. In 87%pts, neoadjuvant CT was based on anthracyclines(A) and taxanes. Adjuvant CT: A and taxanes in 57.4%; 14%pts FAC, 15.4% A-CMF and 12% TCH. At a median follow-up of 70m (3-135), 44pts (10.4%) had relapsed: 33pts with distant M1, 9pts with only loco-regional disease and 2pts contralateral HER2-positive BC. M1 location: 46% visceral, 34% bone/lymph nodes and 20% in central nervous system (CNS). PFS was 23.4m(0-88); median OS was not reached; estimated 10 years-OS was 86.5%. Pts treated with A and taxanes had a significantly better OS compared to those treated with other CT (113 vs 98m, p= 0.009). Kaplan-Meier curve showed numerically higher relapses at 10 years in HR-positive pts (83 vs 90% p=0.8). Pts with pCR had significantly better OS (113 vs 104m, p=0.006). Pts with CNS-metastases had a significantly worse OS (13 vs 26m,p=0,02) and those with HR-negative (49 vs 24m, p= 0.033).
Conclusion: In everyday clinical practice, recurrences after adjuvant/neoadjuvant trastuzumab in HER2-positive BC were less than described in the T-pivotals trials, with 10% of recurrences at a median of FU of 70m. In our series, estimated 10 years-OS was 86.5%. Pts treated with A and taxanes had a significantly better OS as well as those pts who achieved a pCR. On the contrary, pts with CNS M1 and those with HR-negative had worse prognosis.

Abstract
A novel method for genetic labelling of specific lactic acid bacteria strains was developed. The approach implied the transformation of the hosts with a plasmid containing a heterologous DNA fragment. The sequence of a DNA fragment that has been used to label a variety of genetically modified (GM) soya was used to design a forward primer and three reverse primers yielding PCR products recognisable by their sizes. Stability of the recombinant plasmid in the transformed strains was studied by PCR, and the results varied significantly depending on the strain. To test the usefulness of the DNA label to study in vivo properties of probiotic bacteria, such as viability after transit through the digestive tract, mice were orally inoculated with a genetically-labelled Enterococcus faecium strain. Later, their faeces were aseptically collected and the genetically-labelled strain was detected among the colonies that grew on MRS agar.

Abstract
This report describes the histological and immunohistochemical features of multicentric, benign, epithelial inclusions (BEIs) in a free-ranging, adult, female Risso's dolphin (Grampus griseus). The differential diagnoses included ectopic hamartomatous epithelial inclusions, non-Müllerian choristoma, Müllerian choristoma and low-grade metastatic carcinoma/mesothelioma. The most likely diagnosis of such BEIs was multicentric, embolic, reactive mesothelium, as suggested by cytomorphological and immunophenotypical features of the BEIs, the occurrence of focal pleural rupture and the immunophenotype of the pleural mesothelium. The former represents a pathological condition not previously reported in a marine mammal species, rarely described in animals, and relatively infrequently recognized in man.

Abstract
The levels of Cr (2.49±0.89 ppm), Mn (5.08 ± 1.60 ppm), Ni (1.81±0.95 ppm) and Pb (4.43 ± 3.12 ppm) were measured in dessicated liver from 44 cases of sudden traumatic death considered as representative of the general population in our area, after ruling out the presence of any underlying disease. Atomic absorption spectrophotometry and electrothermal atomitazion was carried out after hot, acid digestion, of the dessicated samples. After cancelling the influence of age and cause of death, a significant, positive correlation between Cr/Mn (P = 0.0009; R = 0.493) and Cr/Ni ( P = 0.0245; R = 0.347) levels was found.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The SEUSA program, the Donation and Transplantation Institute foundation consultancy program, was implemented in Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) in 2010 with the support of the National Organ Transplant Unit (NOTU) and the Ministry of Health of T&T. METHODS The SEUSA program included (1) diagnosis of the current situation using the ODDS (Organ Donation Diagnostic Surveys); (2) creation of a human resources structure through Transplant Procurement Management (TPM); (3) detection of all brain and cardiac deaths in the hospitals implementing the DAS (Decease Alert System); (4) in-hospital awareness based on the EODS (Essentials in Organ Donation); and (5) external hospital audits. Additionally continued monitoring is performed. RESULTS Thus far, thanks to implementation of the SEUSA program in Trinidad and Tobago 175, healthcare professionals have been exposed to training programs in the organ donation field. The Living Kidney Program was reinforced and the structure of the Deceased Donation (DD) network was defined. Since 2010, 485 potential organ donors have been detected, and 9 have become actual organ donors; 74 patients have received a kidney transplant (59 from living and 15 from deceased donors). CONCLUSIONS This project results demonstrate that the application of the SEUSA program is an efficient methodology to develop DD programs that increase and consolidate transplant programs in the Caribbean region.

Abstract
A round-robin exercise was conducted within the CALEIDOS LIFE project. The participants were invited to assess the hazard posed by a substance, applying in silico methods and read-across approaches. The exercise was based on three endpoints: mutagenicity, bioconcentration factor and fish acute toxicity. Nine chemicals were assigned for each endpoint and the participants were invited to complete a specific questionnaire communicating their conclusions. The interesting aspect of this exercise is the justification behind the answers more than the final prediction in itself. Which tools were used? How did the approach selected affect the final answer?
