Abstract
Background and Objectives:
CT findings of acute and chronic ischemia are associated with stroke risk. We sought to validate these associations in a large prospective cohort of patients with TIA or minor stroke.
Methods:
We included prospectively enrolled emergency department patients from 13 centers with a final ED diagnosis of TIA or non-disabling stroke who had a computed tomography (CT) within 24 hours. Primary outcome was stroke within 90 days. Secondary outcomes were stroke within 2 or 7 days. CT findings were abstracted from the radiology report and classified for the presence of acute ischemia, chronic ischemia or microangiopathy. Multivariable logistic regression was used to test associations with primary and secondary endpoints.
Results:
In total 8,670 patients were enrolled between May 2010 to May 2017 and 8,382 had a CT within 24 hours. 4,547 patients had evidence of acute ischemia, chronic ischemia, or microangiopathy on CT imaging, of whom 175 had a subsequent stroke within 90 days (3.8% subsequent stroke rate; OR, 2.33; 95% CI, 1.62-3.36; P<0.001). Findings associated with an increased risk of stroke at 90 days were acute ischemia alone (6.0%; OR, 2.42; 95% CI, 1.03-5.66; P=0.04), acute ischemia with microangiopathy (10.7%; OR, 3.34; 95% CI, 1.57-7.14; P=0.002), chronic ischemia with microangiopathy (5.2%; OR, 1.83; 95% CI, 1.34-2.50; P<0.001), and acute ischemia with chronic ischemia and microangiopathy (10.9%; OR; 3.49; 95% CI, 1.54-7.91; P=0.003). ). Acute ischemia with chronic ischemia and microangiopathy were most strongly associated with increased risk of subsequent stroke within 2 days (OR, 4.36; 95% CI 1.31-14.54), and 7 days (OR, 4.50; 95%CI, 1.73-11.69).
Conclusion:
In patients with TIA or non-disabling stroke, CT evidence of acute ischemia with chronic ischemia and/or microangiopathy significantly increases the risk of subsequent stroke within 90 days of index visit. The combination of all 3 findings results in the greatest early risk.

Measurement of Prompt D^{0}, Λ_{c}^{+}, and Σ_{c}^{0,++}(2455) Production in Proton-Proton Collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2022; 128:012001. Abstract
The p_{T}-differential production cross sections of prompt D^{0}, Λ_{c}^{+}, and Σ_{c}^{0,++}(2455) charmed hadrons are measured at midrapidity (|y|<0.5) in pp collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV. This is the first measurement of Σ_{c}^{0,++} production in hadronic collisions. Assuming the same production yield for the three Σ_{c}^{0,+,++} isospin states, the baryon-to-meson cross section ratios Σ_{c}^{0,+,++}/D^{0} and Λ_{c}^{+}/D^{0} are calculated in the transverse momentum (p_{T}) intervals 2<p_{T}<12 and 1<p_{T}<24 GeV/c. Values significantly larger than in e^{+}e^{-} collisions are observed, indicating for the first time that baryon enhancement in hadronic collisions also extends to the Σ_{c}. The feed-down contribution to Λ_{c}^{+} production from Σ_{c}^{0,+,++} is also reported and is found to be larger than in e^{+}e^{-} collisions. The data are compared with predictions from event generators and other phenomenological models, providing a sensitive test of the different charm-hadronization mechanisms implemented in the models.

Measurement of the Cross Sections of Ξ_{c}^{0} and Ξ_{c}^{+} Baryons and of the Branching-Fraction Ratio BR(Ξ_{c}^{0}→Ξ^{-}e^{+}ν_{e})/BR(Ξ_{c}^{0}→Ξ^{-}π^{+}) in pp Collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV. Abstract
The p_{T}-differential cross sections of prompt charm-strange baryons Ξ_{c}^{0} and Ξ_{c}^{+} were measured at midrapidity (|y|<0.5) in proton-proton (pp) collisions at a center-of-mass energy sqrt[s]=13 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The Ξ_{c}^{0} baryon was reconstructed via both the semileptonic decay (Ξ^{-}e^{+}ν_{e}) and the hadronic decay (Ξ^{-}π^{+}) channels. The Ξ_{c}^{+} baryon was reconstructed via the hadronic decay (Ξ^{-}π^{+}π^{+}) channel. The branching-fraction ratio BR(Ξ_{c}^{0}→Ξ^{-}e^{+}ν_{e})/BR(Ξ_{c}^{0}→Ξ^{-}π^{+})=1.38±0.14(stat)±0.22(syst) was measured with a total uncertainty reduced by a factor of about 3 with respect to the current world average reported by the Particle Data Group. The transverse momentum (p_{T}) dependence of the Ξ_{c}^{0}- and Ξ_{c}^{+}-baryon production relative to the D^{0} meson and to the Σ_{c}^{0,+,++}- and Λ_{c}^{+}-baryon production are reported. The baryon-to-meson ratio increases toward low p_{T} up to a value of approximately 0.3. The measurements are compared with various models that take different hadronization mechanisms into consideration. The results provide stringent constraints to these theoretical calculations and additional evidence that different processes are involved in charm hadronization in electron-positron (e^{+}e^{-}) and hadronic collisions.

Abstract
This Letter presents the first experimental evidence of the attractive strong interaction between a proton and a ϕ meson. The result is obtained from two-particle correlations of combined p-ϕ⊕ p[over ¯]-ϕ pairs measured in high-multiplicity pp collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV by the ALICE Collaboration. The spin-averaged scattering length and effective range of the p-ϕ interaction are extracted from the fully corrected correlation function employing the Lednický-Lyuboshits approach. In particular, the imaginary part of the scattering length vanishes within uncertainties, indicating that inelastic processes do not play a prominent role for the p-ϕ interaction. These data demonstrate that the interaction is dominated by elastic p-ϕ scattering. Furthermore, an analysis employing phenomenological Gaussian- and Yukawa-type potentials is conducted. Under the assumption of the latter, the N-ϕ coupling constant is found to be g_{N-ϕ}=0.14±0.03(stat)±0.02(syst). This work provides valuable experimental input to accomplish a self-consistent description of the N-ϕ interaction, which is particularly relevant for the more fundamental studies on partial restoration of chiral symmetry in nuclear medium.

Abstract
Objective The COVID-19 pandemic has created numerous unique challenges for the recruitment of prospective trainees. Cancellation of visiting electives and in-person interviews created challenges for programs to showcase elements that have been shown to influence applicants’ program selection, including geographical considerations and program collegiality. Novel strategies have been recommended and employed to facilitate candidate recruitment, but it is unclear how influential such strategies are on candidates’ program ranking. It is also unclear what factors influence program selection among CCFP(EM) candidates. We sought to evaluate the impact of novel recruitment strategies on applicants’ ranking of the University of Ottawa CCFP(EM) program and determine factors which were most influential in applicants’ first-choice program selection. Methods An online survey was distributed to all candidates (n = 127) who applied to the University of Ottawa CCFP(EM) program. The survey instrument included 33 items. Respondents were asked to rate on a 3-point scale how influential specific recruitment strategies were on their ranking of our program and the influence of different training factors on their selection of first-choice program. Results The survey response rate was 27% (34/127). Recruitment strategies rated as most positively influential included virtual one-on-one meetings with program directors (100%), virtual Q&A sessions (77.8%), virtual communication with chief residents (73.3%), and a mailed personalized recruitment package (72.2%). The top factors influencing applicants’ first-choice program selection included: collegiality between faculty and residents (96.4%); level of responsibility given to residents (96.4%); support within the program (96.4%); and procedural opportunities within the program (96.3%). Conclusion Facilitating virtual personal interaction with program leadership is highly influential in how CCFP(EM) candidates rank programs. CCFP(EM) candidates value characteristics of a training program over the geographical location and available amenities. Program leaders should consider these findings when recruiting prospective candidates. Abstract
The dynamical motion of a pair of microparticles exposed to acoustic standing waves and located at the pressure nodal plane is studied using numerical simulations and experiments. The insight into their dynamical behavior along the pressure nodal plane due to the competition between the axial primary radiation and interparticle forces is elucidated. An expression for axial primary radiation force acting on a particle is derived, and the particle dynamics is simulated using fluid-structure interaction model based on the arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian method. Considering the total radiation force acting on a particle is the sum of the axial primary radiation force and the interparticle force, three distinct dynamical regimes are observed depending upon the relative magnitudes of the acoustic forces which in turn depend on the gradient of the acoustic energy density. Acceleration, deceleration, and constant velocity motion of the pair of approaching particles are observed, which are explained by the interplay of the acoustic and non-acoustic forces. The dynamical motion of the pair of particles predicted using the model is in very good agreement with the experimental observations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is common among non-smokers exposed to solid fuel combustion at home. Different clinical characteristics in these patients may have significant therapeutic and prognostic implications.METHODS: We used medical record review and a questionnaire among COPD patients at 15 centres across India to capture data on demographic details, different types of exposures and clinical characteristics. Chest radiography and pulmonary function testing were performed in all 1984 cases; C-reactive protein and exhaled breath nitric oxide were measured wherever available.RESULTS: There were 1388 current or ex-smokers and 596 (30.0%) non-smokers who included 259 (43.5%) male and 337 (56.5%) female patients. Sputum production was significantly more common in smokers with COPD (P < 0.05). The frequency of acute symptomatic worsening, emergency visits and hospitalisation were significantly higher (P < 0.05) in non-smokers with COPD; however, intensive care unit admissions were similar in the two groups. There was no significant difference with respect to the use of bronchodilators, inhalational steroids or home nebulisation among smoker and non-smoker patients. The mean predicted forced expiratory volume in 1 sec in smokers (43.1%) was significantly lower than in non-smokers (46.5%).CONCLUSION: Non-smoker COPD, more commonly observed in women exposed to biomass fuels, was characterised by higher rate of exacerbations and higher healthcare resource utilisation.

Abstract
We present the first results of the Fermilab National Accelerator Laboratory (FNAL) Muon g-2 Experiment for the positive muon magnetic anomaly a_{μ}≡(g_{μ}-2)/2. The anomaly is determined from the precision measurements of two angular frequencies. Intensity variation of high-energy positrons from muon decays directly encodes the difference frequency ω_{a} between the spin-precession and cyclotron frequencies for polarized muons in a magnetic storage ring. The storage ring magnetic field is measured using nuclear magnetic resonance probes calibrated in terms of the equivalent proton spin precession frequency ω[over ˜]_{p}^{'} in a spherical water sample at 34.7 °C. The ratio ω_{a}/ω[over ˜]_{p}^{'}, together with known fundamental constants, determines a_{μ}(FNAL)=116 592 040(54)×10^{-11} (0.46 ppm). The result is 3.3 standard deviations greater than the standard model prediction and is in excellent agreement with the previous Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) E821 measurement. After combination with previous measurements of both μ^{+} and μ^{-}, the new experimental average of a_{μ}(Exp)=116 592 061(41)×10^{-11} (0.35 ppm) increases the tension between experiment and theory to 4.2 standard deviations.

Abstract
We implemented a novel transition-to-practice curriculum incorporating four new processes to prepare CCFP(EM) residents for independent practice. These elements were: 1) explicit sequencing of competency progression; 2) establishment of coaching teams; 3) establishment of independent shifts; and 4) implementation of a transition-to-practice seminar series. Exit surveys of residents rated the new curriculum highly with 15/17 (88.2%) residents reporting they felt prepared for independent practice. All residents rated competency progression, coaching teams, independent shifts and transition-to-practice series favourably. This framework can be used by other 1-year enhanced skills or other fellowship programs to prepare their residents for independent practice.

Abstract
Microwell arrays are amongst the most commonly used platforms for biochemical assays. However, the coalescence of droplets that constitute the dispersed phase of suspensions housed within microwells has not received much attention to date. Herein, we study the coalescence of droplets in a two-phase system in a microwell driven by surface acoustic waves (SAWs). The microwell structure, together with symmetric exposure to SAW irradiation, coupled from beneath the microwell via a piezoelectric substrate, gives rise to the formation of a pair of counter-rotating vortices that enable droplet transport, trapping, and coalescence. We elucidate the physics of the coalescence phenomenon using a scaling analysis of the relevant forces, namely, the acoustic streaming-induced drag force, the capillary and viscous forces associated with the drainage of the thin continuous phase film between the droplets and the van der Waals attraction force. We confirm that droplet-droplet interface contact is established through the formation of a liquid bridge, whose neck radius grows linearly in time in the preceding viscous regime and proportionally with the square root of time in the subsequent inertial regime. Further, we investigate the influence of the input SAW power and droplet size on the film drainage time and demarcate the coalescence and non-coalescence regimes to derive a criterion for the onset of coalescence. The distinct deformation patterns observed for a pair of contacting droplets in both the regimes are elucidated and the possibility for driving concurrent coalescence of multiple droplets is demonstrated. We expect the study will find relevance in the demulsification of immiscible phases and the mixing of samples/reagents within microwells for a variety of biochemical applications.

Abstract
Since its discovery, graphene has held great promise as a two-dimensional (2D) metal with massless carriers and, thus, extremely high-mobility that is due to the character of the band structure that results in the so-called Dirac cone for the ideal, perfectly ordered crystal structure. This promise has led to only limited electronic device applications due to the lack of an energy gap which prevents the formation of conventional device geometries. Thus, several schemes for inducing a semiconductor band gap in graphene have been explored. These methods do result in samples whose resistivity increases with decreasing temperature, similar to the temperature dependence of a semiconductor. However, this temperature dependence can also be caused by highly diffusive transport that, in highly disordered materials, is caused by Anderson-Mott localization and which is not desirable for conventional device applications. In this letter, we demonstrate that in the diffusive case, the conventional description of the insulating state is inadequate and demonstrate a method for determining whether such transport behavior is due to a conventional semiconductor band gap.

Abstract
The interpretation and implementation of large-scale genetic profiles into clinical practice remains a challenge despite substantial growth in our understanding of genetic contributors to drug response. Most current omic studies focus on identifying genetic features that are distinct between normal and tumor samples, but fail to capture the dynamics of association between omic profiles, treatment response and disease progression over time. The focus of this research is to analyze the longitudinal transcriptomic profile of chronic myeloid leukemia patients (CML) in context of tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) treatment and clinical status. The main objectives were to compare a series of post-TKI treatment transcriptome profiles to their baseline levels, and characterize the impact of TKI treatment and CML disease status on the individual's transcriptome over time. Our ultimate goal is to develop TKI response predictors using the longitudinal expression data collected over the treatment course.Peripheral blood samples, buccal swabs and detailed clinical data were collected from each study participant (screened for BCR-ABL1 translocation) for a period of 6 months, in addition to pre-therapy baseline. RNA was extracted from granulocytes isolated from peripheral blood samples, and profiled using RNA sequencing. RNAseq profiles over TKI treatment course were compared to baseline, as well as against hematologic response (complete blood count), cytogenetic response (FISH), and clinical disease progression. We investigated dynamic trends in RNAseq profiles associated TKI response, as well as with the clinical status of the patient over time. We identified genetic features that were either 1) Differentially expressed between baseline and post-TKI time points; 2) Showed non-random spikes in expression levels at specific time points; 3) Associated with hematological and clinical phenotypes, including white blood cell count, percentage granulocytes and percentage cells with BCR-ABL1 translocation; 4) Demonstrated highly correlated patterns of expression over time. Through clustering and enrichment analysis of the selected transcripts, we identified several pathways and molecular features associated with TKI-response, and altered disease state. Of note, we found mTOR signaling, and pro-apoptotic pathways to be significantly altered between baseline and TKI-responding individuals. In addition, we observed significant changes in transcription regulatory network of several transcription factors, notably AP-1, over the treatment time course. To our knowledge, this is the first study to establish the utility of comprehensive longitudinal multiple transcriptome profile analysis of TKI-response in CML. We believe this study will pave way for future large-scale longitudinal omic profiling of CML and other cancer-types.
