Abstract
Objective: To investigate the surgical treatment effect and prognostic factors of hilar cholangiocarcinoma. Methods: This is an ambispective cohort study. From August 2005 to December 2022,data of 510 patients who diagnosed with hilar cholangiocarcinoma and underwent surgical resection at the Hepatobiliary Center of the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University were retrospectively collected. In the cohort,there were 324 males and 186 females,with an age of (M (IQR)) 63(13)years (range:25 to 85 years). The liver function at admission was Child-Pugh A (343 cases,67.3%) and Child-Pugh B (167 cases,32.7%). Three hundred and seventy-two(72.9%) patients had jaundice symptoms and the median total bilirubin was 126.3(197.6) μmol/L(range: 5.4 to 722.8 μmol/L) at admission. Two hundred and fourty-seven cases (48.4%) were treated with percutaneous transhepatic cholangial drainage or endoscopic nasobiliary drainage before operation. The median bilirubin level in the drainage group decreased from 186.4 μmol/L to 85.5 μmol/L before operation. Multivariate Logistic regression was used to identify the influencing factors for R0 resection,and Cox regression was used to construct multivariate prediction models for overall survival(OS) and disease-free survival(DFS). Results: Among 510 patients who underwent surgical resection,Bismuth-Corlett type Ⅲ-Ⅳ patients accounted for 71.8%,among which 86.1% (315/366) underwent hemi-hepatectomy,while 81.9% (118/144) underwent extrahepatic biliary duct resection alone in Bismuch-Corlett type Ⅰ-Ⅱ patients. The median OS time was 22.8 months, and the OS rates at 1-,3-,5-and 10-year were 72.2%,35.6%,24.8% and 11.0%,respectively. The median DFS time was 15.2 months,and the DFS rates was 66.0%,32.4%,20.9% and 11.0%,respectively. The R0 resection rate was 64.5% (329/510), and the OS rates of patients with R0 resection at 1-,3-,5-and 10-year were 82.5%, 48.6%, 34.4%, 15.2%,respectively. The morbidity of Clavien-Dindo grade Ⅲ-Ⅴ complications was 26.1%(133/510) and the 30-day mortality was 4.3% (22/510). Multivariate Logistic regression indicated that Bismuth-Corlett type Ⅰ-Ⅲ (P=0.009), hemi-hepatectomy and extended resection (P=0.001),T1 and T2 patients without vascular invasion (T2 vs. T1:OR=1.43 (0.61-3.35),P=0.413;T3 vs. T1:OR=2.57 (1.03-6.41), P=0.010;T4 vs. T1, OR=3.77 (1.37-10.38), P<0.01) were more likely to obtain R0 resection. Preoperative bilirubin,Child-Pugh grade,tumor size,surgical margin,T stage,N stage,nerve infiltration and Edmondson grade were independent prognostic factors for OS and DFS of hilar cholangiocarcinoma patients without distant metastasis. Conclusions: Radical surgical resection is necessary to prolong the long-term survival of hilar cholangiocarcinoma patients. Hemi-hepatectomy and extended resection,regional lymph node dissection and combined vascular resection if necessary,can improve R0 resection rate.

Abstract
Seasonal influenza vaccines typically provide strain-specific protection and are reformulated annually, which is a complex and time-consuming process. Multiepitope vaccines, combining multiple conserved antigenic epitopes from a pathogen, can trigger more robust, diverse, and effective immune responses, providing a potential solution. However, their practical application is hindered by low immunogenicity and short-term effectiveness. In this study, multiple linear epitopes from the conserved stem domain of hemagglutinin and the ectodomain of matrix protein 2 are combined with the Helicobacter pylori ferritin, a stable self-assembled nanoplatform, to develop an influenza multiepitope nanovaccine, named MHF. MHF is prokaryotically expressed in a soluble form and self-assembles into uniform nanoparticles. The subcutaneous immunization of mice with adjuvanted MHF induces cross-reactive neutralizing antibodies, antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity, and cellular immunity, offering complete protection against H3N2 as well as partial protection against H1N1. Importantly, the vaccine cargo delivered by ferritin triggers epitope-specific memory B-cell responses, with antibody level persisting for over 6 months post-immunization. These findings indicate that self-assembled multiepitope nanovaccines elicit potent and long-lasting immune responses while significantly reducing the risk of vaccine escape mutants, and offer greater practicality in terms of scalable manufacturing and genetic manipulability, presenting a promising and effective strategy for future vaccine development.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) thalamotomy has been implemented as a therapeutic alternative for the treatment of drug-refractory essential tremor (ET). However, its impact on the brain structural network is still unclear. PURPOSE To investigate both global and local alterations of the white matter (WM) connectivity network in ET after MRgFUS thalamotomy. STUDY TYPE Retrospective. SUBJECTS Twenty-seven ET patients (61 ± 11 years, 19 males) with MRgFUS thalamotomy and 28 healthy controls (HC) (61 ± 11 years, 20 males) were recruited for comparison. FIELD STRENGTH/SEQUENCE A 3 T/single shell diffusion tensor imaging by using spin-echo-based echo-planar imaging, three-dimensional T1 weighted imaging by using gradient-echo-based sequence. ASSESSMENT Patients were undergoing MRgFUS thalamotomy and their clinical data were collected from pre-operation to 6-month post-operation. Network topological metrics, including rich-club organization, small-world, and efficiency properties were calculated. Correlation between the topological metrics and tremor scores in ET groups was also calculated to assess the role of neural remodeling in the brain. STATISTICAL TESTS Two-sample independent t-tests, chi-squared test, ANOVA, Bonferroni test, and Spearman's correlation. Statistical significance was set at P < 0.05. RESULTS For ET patients, the strength of rich-club connection and clustering coefficient significantly increased vs. characteristic path length decreased at 6-month post-operation compared with pre-operation. The distribution pattern of rich-club regions was different in ET groups. Specifically, the order of the rich-club regions was changed according to the network degree value after MRgFUS thalamotomy. Moreover, the altered nodal efficiency in the right temporal pole of the superior temporal gyrus (R = 0.434-0.596) and right putamen (R = 0.413-0.436) was positively correlated with different tremor improvement. DATA CONCLUSION These findings might improve understanding of treatment-induced modulation from a network perspective and may work as an objective marker in the assessment of ET tremor control with MRgFUS thalamotomy. Abstract
Breast cancer has become the most diagnosed cancer type, endangering the health of women. Patients with breast resection are likely to suffer serious physical and mental trauma. Therefore, breast reconstruction becomes an important means of postoperative patient rehabilitation. Polyvinyl alcohol hydrogel has great potential in adipose tissue engineering for breast reconstruction. However, its application is limited because of the lack of bioactive factors and poor structural stability. In this study, we prepared biodegradable polylactic acid-glycolic acid copolymer/polycaprolactone/gelatin (PPG) nanofibers. We then combined them with polyvinyl alcohol/collagen to create tissue engineering scaffolds to overcome limitations. We found that PPG fibers formed amide bonds with polyvinyl alcohol/collagen scaffolds. After chemical crosslinking, the number of amide bonds increased, leading to a significant improvement in their mechanical properties and thermal stability. The results showed that compared with pure PVA scaffolds, the maximum compressive stress of the scaffold doped with 0.9 g nanofibers increased by 500 %, and the stress loss rate decreased by 40.6 % after 10 cycles of compression. The presence of natural macromolecular gelatin and the changes in the pore structure caused by nanofibers provide cells with richer and more three-dimensional adsorption sites, allowing them to grow in three dimensions on the scaffold. So, the hydrogel scaffold by reinforcing polyvinyl alcohol hydrogel with PPG fibers is a promising breast reconstruction method.

Abstract
Graphene is a two-dimensional honeycomb-like nanomaterial generated by carbon atoms in sp2 hybridized orbitals to form a hexagonal lattice structure with excellent electrical, optical, and mechanical properties. The solution process method has been widely used to realize large-area patterned graphene structures for high-performance devices. In the method, graphene usually needs to be dispersed in solution, and the π-π bonding gravitational interactions between graphene sheets would lead to uncontrollable structures in solution and difficulty in obtaining high performance. In this work, a patterned graphene oxide (GO) structure with controllable thickness and layer spacing was realized by a direct-write printed slippery surface, which was used as a slippery limited template. After reducing GO into reduced graphene oxide (rGO), a flexible electric pattern with a conductivity of up to 6.425 × 103 S/m was realized. Furthermore, the patterned rGO structure was transferred on polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), which could generate less than a 5% change in resistance after 10,000 consecutive bends, and an anisotropic expansion based on rGO and PDMS materials under electro-thermal coupling. The patterned rGO structures could meet the performance requirements of highly sensitive and complex deformation applications as flexible electric actuators. This study provides great research significance and application value for patterning high-quality graphene structures and realizing high-performance flexible electronic devices.

Abstract
In the present work, the taxonomic relationship between Streptomyces coeruleorubidus and Streptomyces bellus was reevaluated by a comprehensive comparison of phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and genomic characteristics, as well as phylogeny. In 1957 and 1960, Streptomyces coeruleorubidus and Streptomyces bellus were described as two novel Streptomyces species. The full-length 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis indicated that Streptomyces bellus JCM 4292T shared highest sequence identity with Streptomyces coerulescens ISP 5146T (100%). Phylogenetic analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequence showed that S. bellus JCM 4292T was most closely related to Streptomyces coerulescens ISP 5146T. Phylogenetic analysis of five housekeeping gene sequences demonstrated that S. bellus JCM 4292T was most closely related to S. coeruleorubidus ATCC 13740T. Nevertheless, the ANIm (average nucleotide identity based on MuMmer ultra-rapid aligning tool) and dDDH (digital DNA-DNA hybridization) values between them were 97.71% and 81.9%, respectively, greater than the threshold of 96.7% and 70% for the delineation of Streptomyces species, suggesting that they represent the same genomic species. In addition, phenotypic and chemotaxonomic characteristics, as well as phylogeny and genomic DNA-DNA correlation analysis also confirmed the above conclusion. Consequently, we proposed that S. bellus Margalith and Beretta 1960 is a later heterotypic synonym of S. coeruleorubidus (Preobrazhenskaya 1957) Pridham et al. 1958.

Abstract
The detection of the storage state of frozen meat, especially meat frozen-thawed several times, has always been important for food safety inspections. Hyperspectral imaging (HSI) is widely applied to detect the freshness and quality of meat or meat products. This study investigated the feasibility of the low-cost HSI system, combined with the chemometrics method, to classify beef cuts among fresh (F), frozen-stored (F-S), frozen-thawed three times (F-T-3) and frozen-thawed five times (F-T-5). A compact, low-cost HSI system was designed and calibrated for beef sample measurement. The classification model was developed for meat analysis with a method to distinguish fat and muscle, a CARS algorithm to extract the optimal wavelength subset and three classifiers to identify each beef cut among different freezing processes. The results demonstrated that classification models based on feature variables extracted from differentiated tissue spectra achieved better performances, with ACCs of 92.75% for PLS-DA, 97.83% for SVM and 95.03% for BP-ANN. A visualization map was proposed to provide detailed information about the changes in freshness of beef cuts after freeze-thawing. Furthermore, this study demonstrated the potential of implementing a reasonably priced HSI system in the food industry.

Abstract
Aiming at the problem of the fiber-optic photoacoustic (PA) sensor being easily disturbed by external vibration and noise, a differential cantilever enhanced fiber-optic PA sensor is proposed for diffusion gas detection. The sensor comprises two PA tubes with the same structure and a pair of differential interferometric cantilevers. The two PA tubes are symmetrically distributed. The laser is incident on the PA tube as the signal channel to excite the PA pressure wave. Another tube without incident laser is used as the reference channel to suppress external disturbance. The external interference signals and PA signals superimposed with disturbance are detected by the differential cantilevers from the two channels. The signals are simultaneously restored by a single white-light interferometry demodulator, which multiplexed the spectral frequency domain of the superimposed interference spectrum. The experimental results show that the suppression effect of the differential cantilever enhanced PA sensor on ambient noise is improved by 80%, compared to the traditional single-cantilever sensor. The external cofrequency disturbance is suppressed by 20.9 dB. The minimum detection limit to acetylene (C2H2) downs to about 60 ppb with an integration time of 100 s. The sensor has excellent antivibration and electromagnetic interference ability.

Abstract
Introduction The brown planthopper (BPH) poses a significant threat to rice production in Asia. The use of resistant rice varieties has been effective in managing this pest. However, the adaptability of BPH to resistant rice varieties has led to the emergence of virulent populations, such as biotype Y BPH. YHY15 rice, which carries the BPH resistance gene Bph15, exhibits notable resistance to biotype 1 BPH but is susceptible to biotype Y BPH. Limited information exists regarding how resistant rice plants defend against BPH populations with varying levels of virulence. Methods In this study, we integrated miRNA and mRNA expression profiling analyses to study the differential responses of YHY15 rice to both avirulent (biotype 1) and virulent (biotype Y) BPH. Results YHY15 rice demonstrated a rapid response to biotype Y BPH infestation, with significant transcriptional changes occurring within 6 hours. The biotype Y-responsive genes were notably enriched in photosynthetic processes. Accordingly, biotype Y BPH infestation induced more intense transcriptional responses, affecting miRNA expression, defenserelated metabolic pathways, phytohormone signaling, and multiple transcription factors. Additionally, callose deposition was enhanced in biotype Y BPH-infested rice seedlings. Discussion These findings provide comprehensive insights into the defense mechanisms of resistant rice plants against virulent BPH, and may potentially guide the development of insect-resistant rice varieties.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Research has estimated the associations of lifestyle at one-time point with the risk of dementia and hippocampal volume, but the impact of lifestyle transition on dementia and hippocampal volume remains unclear. This study aims to examine the associations of lifestyle transition with the risk of dementia and hippocampal volume. METHODS Based on data from the UK Biobank, a weighted lifestyle score was constructed by incorporating six lifestyle factors. Within each baseline lifestyle group (i.e., healthy, intermediate, and unhealthy), lifestyle transition was classified into decline, maintenance, and improvement. Cox proportional hazard regression was used to estimate the association of lifestyle transition and incident dementia (N = 16,305). A multiple linear regression model was used to estimate the association between lifestyle transition and hippocampal volume (N = 5849). RESULTS During a median follow-up period of 8.6 years, 120 (0.7 %) dementia events were documented. Among participants with healthy baseline lifestyles, the improvement group had a lower risk of incident dementia (HR: 0.18, 95 % CI: 0.04-0.81) and a larger hippocampal volume (β = 111.69, P = 0.026) than the decline group. Similar results were observed among participants with intermediate baseline lifestyles regarding dementia risk but not hippocampal volume. No benefits were observed in the improvement group among those with unhealthy baseline lifestyles. LIMITATIONS A lower incidence of dementia than other cohort study and this may have resulted in an underestimation of the risk of dementia. CONCLUSIONS Earlier transitions to healthier lifestyle were associated with reduced risk of incident dementia and decreased hippocampal atrophy.

Abstract
The emergence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria presents a significant challenge to public health, increasing the risk of infections that are resistant to current antibiotic treatment. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) offer a promising alternative to conventional antibiotics in the prevention of MDR bacterial infections. In the present study, we identified a novel cathelicidin AMP from Gekko japonicus, which exhibited broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, with minimal inhibitory concentrations ranging from 2.34 to 4.69 μg/mL. To improve its potential therapeutic application, a series of peptides was synthesized based on the active region of the gecko-derived cathelicidin. The lead peptide (RH-16) showed an antimicrobial activity comparable to that of the parent peptide. Structural characterization revealed that RH-16 adopted an amphipathic α-helical conformation. Furthermore, RH-16 demonstrated neither hemolytic nor cytotoxic activity but effectively killed a wide range of clinically isolated, drug-resistant bacteria. The antimicrobial activity of RH-16 was attributed to the nonspecific targeting of bacterial membranes, leading to rapid bacterial membrane permeabilization and rupture. RH-16 also retained its antibacterial activity in plasma and exhibited mild toxicity in vivo. Notably, RH-16 offered robust protection against skin infection in a murine model. Therefore, this newly identified cathelicidin AMP may be a strong candidate for future pharmacological development targeting multidrug resistance. The use of a rational design approach for isolating the minimal antimicrobial unit may accelerate the transition of natural AMPs to clinically applicable antibacterial agents.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinicopathological features, classification, and genetic characteristics of common lymphatic malformation (CLM) in superficial soft tissue. Methods: A retrospective study of 110 patients with the diagnosis of CLM at the Henan Province People's Hospital, China from August 2019 to August 2022 was performed. The clinicopathological features, relevant immunohistochemical (IHC) staining results, and fluorescence quantitative PCR of PIK3CA mutation were analyzed, and patients were followed up. Results: Among the 110 CLM patients, there were 53 males and 57 females; 65 cases (65/110, 59.1%) were first detected when the patients were≤2 years old. The most common location was the head and neck in 41 cases (41/110, 37.3%). Clinically, 102 cases (102/110, 92.7%) were solitary, 83 cases (83/110, 75.5%) were skin-colored, 69 cases (69/110, 62.7%) had indistinct borders, and 10 cases (10/110, 9.1%) had diffuse and severe macroscopic manifestations. There were 52 macrocystic type (52/110, 47.3%), 23 microcystic type (23/110, 20.9%), and 35 combined type (35/110, 31.8%). The macrocystic CLM presented as soft, translucent masses with large cystic cavities on the cut surface, and histologically they were composed of large, irregularly dilated channels that were thicker with irregular smooth muscle and lymphocytic infiltration. Microcystic CLM showed wartlike projections or translucent blisters on the skin, with small honeycomb structures on the cut surface, and histologically consisted of round or angular dilated small lymphatic vessels with little or no smooth muscle. The combined CLM had both macrocystic and microcystic morphologies. IHC staining showed that the lymphatic endothelial cells were positive for LYVE-1, D2-40, PROX1, CD31, and VEGFR3 but negative for CD34; in the macrocystic and combined CLM vessel walls were positive for SMA. Eight of 13 CLM had PIK3CA mutation. All patients were followed up, and 24 (24/110, 21.8%) had relapses, which more frequently occurred in combined type, followed by microcystic type. Conclusions: CLM is a congenital vascular malformation composed of dilated, abnormal lymphatic channels, with PIK3CA mutation. There are significant differences in clinicopathological characteristics among the different types. Since microcystic and combined CLM are prone to recurrence, accurate pathological subtyping is necessary to guide treatment and to predict prognosis.

Abstract
The remarkable light perception abilities of the mantis shrimp, which span a broad spectrum ranging from 300 nm to 720 nm and include the detection of polarized light, serve as the inspiration for our exploration. Drawing insights from the mantis shrimp's unique visual system, we propose the design of a multifunctional imaging sensor capable of concurrently detecting spectrum and polarization across a wide waveband. This sensor is able to show spectral imaging capability through the utilization of a 16-channel multi-waveband Fabry-Pérot (FP) resonator filter array. The design incorporates a composite thin film structure comprising metal and dielectric layers as the reflector of the resonant cavity. The resulting metal-dielectric composite film FP resonator extends the operating bandwidth to cover both visible and infrared regions, specifically spanning a broader range from 450 nm to 900 nm. Furthermore, within this operational bandwidth, the metal-dielectric composite film FP resonator demonstrates an average peak transmittance exceeding 60%, representing a notable improvement over the metallic resonator. Additionally, aluminum-based metallic grating arrays are incorporated beneath the FP filter array to capture polarization information. This innovative approach enables the simultaneous acquisition of spectrum and polarization information using a single sensor device. The outcomes of this research hold promise for advancing the development of high-performance, multifunctional optical sensors, thereby unlocking new possibilities in the field of optical information acquisition.

Abstract
Modern miniaturized intelligent electronics call for smart switchable and flexible electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding material for highly precise applications. However, most switchable EMI shielding materials are based on an explicit structural change. Herein, we report a succulent-inspired smart switchable MXene (WR-MXene) coating film realized by inner implicit structural change, which benefits from the insertion of our reversible large-cavity yolk-shell biomicrospheres. The novel switchable yolk-shell biomicrospheres contain a soft N-isopropylacrylamide (PNIPAM) hydrogel core, an "ON/OFF" switchable cavity (over 30% volume fraction), and a porous polydopamine (p-PDA) shell. The yolk-shell biomicrospheres can be obtained by a facile two-step polymerization and a simple drying-dehydration treatment. Because of the "ON/OFF" switchable void space brought by the smart biomicrospheres and conductive framework of MXene, an optimized ultralight and flexible WR-MXene coating film (vWR-coating film) showed both large switchable change (over 60 dB) and extraordinary EMI shielding effectiveness, reaching 95 and over 50 dB in the whole X band (8.2-12.4 GHz). These novel reversible yolk-shell biomicrospheres and the succulent-inspired switchable coating films are promising for smart flexible wearable devices and many advanced multifunctional systems needing dynamic real-time response.

Abstract
Importance Decreased mobility is a hallmark of aging. Olfactory dysfunction is common in older adults and may be associated with declines in mobility. Objective To determine whether poor olfaction was associated with faster declines in mobility in older adults. Design, Setting, and Participants This cohort study included 2500 participants from the Health, Aging, and Body Composition Study. Participants completed the Brief Smell Identification Test during the year 3 clinical visit (1999-2000) and were followed for up to 7 years. A data analysis was conducted between January and July 2023. Exposures Olfaction was defined as good (test score, 11-12), moderate (9-10), hyposmia (7-8), or anosmia (0-6). Main Outcomes and Measures Mobility was measured using the 20-m usual and fast walking tests in clinical visit years 3 to 6, 8, and 10 and the 400-m fast walking test in years 4, 6, 8, and 10. Results The primary analyses included 2500 participants (1292 women [51.7%]; 1208 men [48.3%]; 960 Black [38.4%] and 1540 White [61.6%] individuals; mean [SD] age, 75.6 [2.8] years). Multivariate-adjusted analyses showed that poor olfaction was associated with slower walking speed at baseline and a faster decline over time. Taking the 20-m usual walking test as an example, compared with participants with good olfaction, the speed at baseline was 0.027 (95% CI, 0-0.053) m/s slower for those with hyposmia and 0.034 (95% CI, 0.005-0.062) m/s slower for those with anosmia. Longitudinally, the annual decline was 0.004 (95% CI, 0.002-0.007) m/s/year faster for those with hyposmia and 0.01 (95% CI, 0.007-0.013) m/s/year faster for those with anosmia. Similar results were obtained for the 20-m and 400-m fast walking tests. Further, compared with participants with good olfaction, the odds of being unable to do the 400-m test were 2.02 (95% CI, 1.17-3.48) times higher for those with anosmia at the year 8 visit and 2.73 (95% CI, 1.40-5.35) times higher at year 10. Multiple sensitivity and subgroup analyses supported the robustness and generalizability of the findings. Conclusion and Relevance The results of this cohort study suggest that poor olfaction is associated with a faster decline in mobility in older adults. Future studies should investigate underlying mechanisms and potential health implications.

Abstract
Cardiac autonomic neuropathy resulting from human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection is common; however, its mechanism remains unknown. The current work attempted to explore the function and mechanism of the P2Y13 receptor in HIV-glycoprotein 120 (gp120)-induced neuropathy in cervical sympathetic ganglion. The superior cervical ganglion (SCG) of the male SD rat was coated with HIV-gp120 to establish a model of autonomic neuropathy. In each group, we measured heart rate, blood pressure, heart rate variability, sympathetic nerve discharge and cardiac function. The expression of P2Y13 mRNA and protein in the SCG was tested by real-time polymerase chain reaction and western blotting. Additionally, this study focused on identifying the protein levels of NOD-like receptor family pyrin domain-containing 3 (NLRP3), Caspase-1, Gasdermin D (GSDMD), interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-18 in the SCG using western blotting and immunofluorescence. In gp120 rats, increased blood pressure, heart rate, cardiac sympathetic nerve activity, P2Y13 receptor levels and decreased cardiac function could be found. P2Y13 shRNA or MRS2211 inhibited the above mentioned changes induced by gp120, suggesting that the P2Y13 receptor may be engaged in gp120-induced sympathetic nerve injury. Moreover, the levels of NLRP3, Caspase-1, GSDMD, IL-1β and IL-18 in the gp120 group were increased, while significantly decreased by P2Y13 shRNA or MRS2211. Therefore, the P2Y13 receptor is involved in gp120-induced sympathetic neuropathy, and its molecular mechanism shows an association with the activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome, followed by GSDMD formation along with the release of inflammatory factors including IL-1β and IL-18. Abstract
Birds including domestic and wild birds, as the amplifying or reservoir hosts of JEV, were sensitive to JEV infection and could develop a sufficiently high viremia to infect mosquitoes. However, most of JEV positive reports in birds were based on molecular detection, with few viruses isolated from clinical cases. In this study, one JEV strain, designated duck/2022-SD-1, was first isolated and identified from blood samples of ducks in 2022 in Shandong province of China. The JEV duck/2022-SD-1 strain was classified into genotype I cluster and shared 96.5 to 99.5 % nucleotide sequence identity with other GI JEV strains. Biological characteristics revealed that duck/2022-SD-1 possessed similar replication ability to a virulent strain Beijing/2020-1. Based on the amino acid identity comparison of E protein, amino acid sites responsible for JEV virulence were conserved between duck/2022-SD-1 and other virulence strains. Through virulence assays in mice, we further determined that duck/2022-SD-1 was a highly virulent JEV strain with highly neuroinvasive in mice, which is similar to the virulence of another virulent strain Beijing/2020-1. Thus, the potential threat of JEV strains originating from domestic birds should be brought to people's attention.

Abstract
BACKGROUND It is unclear whether regular use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) is associated with poor olfaction in older adults. METHODS We selected 4020 participants, aged 50 to 79 years in 2018, from 36,492 eligible participants in the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences Sister Study, according to their self-reported olfaction status. Of these, 3406 women completed the 12-item Brief Smell Identification Test. We defined poor olfaction as a test score ≤9 in the primary analysis. We then estimated odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) from weighted logistic models, accounting for the study design, missing exposures/outcomes, and covariates. RESULTS Overall, NSAID use was not associated with poor olfaction. However, we found evidence for potential multiplicative interactions. Specifically, the OR comparing regular versus never use of aspirin was 1.8 (95% CI, 1.1-3.2) among women who had not regularly used nonaspirin NSAIDs, while the corresponding OR was 0.8 (95% CI, 0.5-1.2) among nonaspirin NSAID users (P for interaction = 0.016). Similar results were seen for ibuprofen alone versus ibuprofen with other NSAID use (P for interaction = 0.010). Among women using either drug alone, associations with poor olfaction increased with increasing duration and cumulative dose. Post hoc analyses showed that the interactions could not be readily explained by potential biases. Other NSAIDs were not associated with olfaction. CONCLUSION Long-term regular use of aspirin or ibuprofen was associated with poor olfaction among women who never regularly used other types of NSAIDs. These preliminary findings warrant independent confirmation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) guided by ultrasound is a novel radiation therapy technique that facilitates the delineation of the tumor target area under image guidance, enhancing the precision of radiation therapy and maximizing the protection of surrounding tissues. OBJECTIVE The objective of this paper is to investigate the effectiveness of VMAT under ultrasonic guidance for cervical cancer patients and its impact on radiotherapy dosage and prognosis. METHODS A retrospective analysis encompassed 128 instances of cervical cancer patients who were admitted to our medical facility between April 2019 and April 2021. The patients were categorized into an observation cohort and a control cohort, depending on variations in treatment modalities post-admission. The control group underwent conventional radiotherapy, whereas the observation group received VMAT guided by ultrasound. Clinical efficacy, average radiation dosages (in the radiotherapy target area, rectum, and bladder), radiotherapy-related toxicities during treatment, and one-year survival rates were compared between the two groups. Additionally, variances in pre- and post-treatment serum levels of squamous cell carcinoma antigen (SCC-Ag), carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), and carbohydrate antigen 724 (CA724) were subjected to assessment. RESULTS When compared to the control group (64.52%), the observation cohort's comprehensive effectiveness rate was considerably greater (80.30%). The observation group saw lower average radiation exposures and a reduction in the post-treatment concentrations of CEA, SCC-Ag, and CA724. The overall incidence of adverse effects from radiation treatment also declined. The observation group had a greater one-year survival rate (90.48%) than the control group (73.33%). When comparing the observation cohort to the control group, Kaplan-Meier survival analysis showed a significantly higher one-year survival rate (Log-Rank = 6.530, P= 0.011). CONCLUSION VMAT guided by ultrasound for patients with cervical cancer demonstrates promising short- and long-term treatment outcomes. It also leads to improvements in serum CEA, SCC-Ag, and CA724 levels, as well as reductions in the average radiation dosages to the radiotherapy target area, rectum, and bladder. This approach warrants attention from clinicians in clinical practice.

Abstract
There is growing evidence that the interactions between sulfur dioxide (SO2) and organic peroxides (POs) in aerosol and clouds play an important role in atmospheric sulfate formation and aerosol aging, yet the reactivity of POs arising from anthropogenic precursors toward SO2 remains unknown. In this study, we investigate the multiphase reactions of SO2 with secondary organic aerosol (SOA) formed from the photooxidation of toluene, a major type of anthropogenic SOA in the atmosphere. The reactive uptake coefficient of SO2 on toluene SOA was determined to be on the order of 10-4, depending strikingly on aerosol water content. POs contribute significantly to the multiphase reactivity of toluene SOA, but they can only explain a portion of the measured SO2 uptake, suggesting the presence of other reactive species in SOA that also contribute to the particle reactivity toward SO2. The second-order reaction rate constant (kII) between S(IV) and toluene-derived POs was estimated to be in the range of the kII values previously reported for commercially available POs (e.g., 2-butanone peroxide and 2-tert-butyl hydroperoxide) and the smallest (C1-C2) and biogenic POs. In addition, unlike commercial POs that can efficiently convert S(IV) into both inorganic sulfate and organosulfates, toluene-derived POs appear to mainly oxidize S(IV) to inorganic sulfate. Our study reveals the multiphase reactivity of typical anthropogenic SOA and POs toward SO2 and will help to develop a better understanding of the formation and evolution of atmospheric secondary aerosol.

Abstract
Background This article aimed to compile and summarize clinically relevant literature in radiation therapy, and to discuss the potential in radioresistant and radiosensitive head and neck cancer. Study Design Narrative review. Materials and methods Google Scholar, PubMed and the Cochrane Library were retrieved using combined key words such as "radiotherapy" and "head and neck cancer". Search strings additionally queried were "radioresistant", "radiosensitive", "head and neck region", "squamous cell carcinoma", in combination with Boolean Operators 'AND' and 'OR'. Subsequently, the resulting publications were included for review of the full text. Results Radiotherapeutic response currently in clinical observation referred to HNSCC scoping were selected into this review. The compiled mechanisms were then detailed concerning on the clinical significance, biological characteristics, and molecular function. Conclusions Brachytherapy or/and external-beam radiotherapy are crucial for treating HNSCC, especially the early stage patients, but in patients with locally advanced tumors, their outcome with radiation therapy is poor due to obvious radioresistance. The curative effects mainly depend on the response of radiation therapy, so an updated review is needed to optimize further applications in HNSCC radiotherapy.

Abstract
Background Since the global pandemic of COVID-19 has broken out, thousands of pieces of literature on COVID-19 RNA vaccines have been published in various journals. The overall measurement and analysis of RNA vaccines for COVID-19, with the help of sophisticated mathematical tools, could provide deep insights into global research performance and the collaborative architectural structure within the scientific community of COVID-19 mRNA vaccines. In this bibliometric analysis, we aim to determine the extent of the scientific output related to COVID-19 RNA vaccines between 2019 and 2023. Methods We applied the Bibliometrix R package for comprehensive science mapping analysis of extensive bibliographic metadata retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database. On January 11th, 2024, the Web of Science database was searched for COVID-19 RNA vaccine-related publications using predetermined search keywords with specific restrictions. Bradford's law was applied to evaluate the core journals in this field. The data was analyzed with various bibliometric indicators using the Bibliometrix R package. Results The final analysis included 2962 publications published between 2020 and 2023 while there is no related publication in 2019. The most productive year was 2022. The most relevant leading authors in terms of publications were Ugur Sahin and Pei-Yong, Shi, who had the highest total citations in this field. The core journals were Vaccines, Frontiers in Immunology, and Viruses-Basel. The most frequently used author's keywords were COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2, and vaccine. Recent COVID-19 RNA vaccine-related topics included mental health, COVID-19 vaccines in humans, people, and the pandemic. Harvard University was the top-ranked institution. The leading country in terms of publications, citations, corresponding author country, and international collaboration was the United States. The United States had the most robust collaboration with China. Conclusion The research hotspots include COVID-19 vaccines and the pandemic in people. We identified international collaboration and research expenditure strongly associated with COVID-19 vaccine research productivity. Researchers' collaboration among developed countries should be extended to low-income countries to expand COVID-19 vaccine-related research and understanding.

Abstract
Auditory verbal hallucinations (AVH) are distinctive clinical manifestations of schizophrenia. While low-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) has demonstrated potential in mitigating AVH, the precise mechanisms by which it operates remain obscure. This study aimed to investigate alternations in structural connectivity and functional connectivity (SC-FC) coupling among schizophrenia patients with AVH prior to and following treatment with 1 Hz rTMS that specifically targets the left temporoparietal junction. Initially, patients exhibited significantly reduced macroscopic whole brain level SC-FC coupling compared to healthy controls. Notably, SC-FC coupling increased significantly across multiple networks, including the somatomotor, dorsal attention, ventral attention, frontoparietal control, and default mode networks, following rTMS treatment. Significant alternations in SC-FC coupling were noted in critical nodes comprising the somatomotor network and the default mode network, such as the precentral gyrus and the ventromedial prefrontal cortex, respectively. The alternations in SC-FC coupling exhibited a correlation with the amelioration of clinical symptom. The results of our study illuminate the intricate relationship between white matter structures and neuronal activity in patients who are receiving low-frequency rTMS. This advances our understanding of the foundational mechanisms underlying rTMS treatment for AVH.

Abstract
Rationale: Microplastics are a pressing global concern, and inhalation of microplastic fibers has been associated with interstitial and bronchial inflammation in flock workers. However, how microplastic fibers affect the lungs is unknown. Objectives: Our aim was to assess the effects of 12 × 31 μm nylon 6,6 (nylon) and 15 × 52 μm polyethylene terephthalate (polyester) textile microplastic fibers on lung epithelial growth and differentiation. Methods: We used human and murine alveolar and airway-type organoids as well as air-liquid interface cultures derived from primary lung epithelial progenitor cells and incubated these with either nylon or polyester fibers or nylon leachate. In addition, mice received one dose of nylon fibers or nylon leachate, and, 7 days later, organoid-forming capacity of isolated epithelial cells was investigated. Measurements and Main Results: We observed that nylon microfibers, more than polyester, inhibited developing airway organoids and not established ones. This effect was mediated by components leaching from nylon. Epithelial cells isolated from mice exposed to nylon fibers or leachate also formed fewer airway organoids, suggesting long-lasting effects of nylon components on epithelial cells. Part of these effects was recapitulated in human air-liquid interface cultures. Transcriptomic analysis revealed upregulation of Hoxa5 after exposure to nylon fibers. Inhibiting Hoxa5 during nylon exposure restored airway organoid formation, confirming Hoxa5's pivotal role in the effects of nylon. Conclusions: These results suggest that components leaching from nylon 6,6 may especially harm developing airways and/or airways undergoing repair, and we strongly encourage characterization in more detail of both the hazard of and the exposure to microplastic fibers.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES We aim to investigate whether cerebral small vessel disease (cSVD) imaging markers correlate with deep medullary vein (DMV) damage in small vessel occlusion acute ischemic stroke (SVO-AIS) patients. METHODS The DMV was divided into six segments according to the regional anatomy. The total DMV score (0-18) was calculated based on segmental continuity and visibility. The damage of DMV was grouped according to the quartiles of the total DMV score. Neuroimaging biomarkers of cSVD including white matter hyperintensity (WMH), cerebral microbleed (CMB), perivascular space (PVS), and lacune were identified. The cSVD score were further analyzed. RESULTS We included 229 SVO-AIS patients, the mean age was 63.7 ± 23.1 years, the median NIHSS score was 3 (IQR, 2-6). In the severe DMV burden group (the 4th quartile), the NIHSS score grade (6 (3-9)) was significantly higher than other groups (p < 0.01). The grade scores for basal ganglia PVS (BG-PVS) were positively correlated with the degree of DMV (R = 0.67, p < 0.01), rather than centrum semivole PVS (CS-PVS) (R = 0.17, p = 0.1). In multivariate analysis, high CMB burden (adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 25.38; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.87-345.23) was associated with severe DMV scores. In addition, BG-PVS was related to severe DMV burden in a dose-dependent manner: when BG-PVS score was 3 and 4, the aORs of severe DMV burden were 18.5 and 12.19, respectively. CONCLUSION The DMV impairment was associated with the severity of cSVD, which suggests that DMV burden may be used for risk stratification in SVO-AIS patients. CLINICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT The DMV damage score, based on the association between small vessel disease and the deep medullary veins impairment, is a potential new imaging biomarker for the prognosis of small vessel occlusion acute ischemic stroke, with clinical management implications. KEY POINTS • The damage to the deep medullary vein may be one mechanism of cerebral small vessel disease. • Severe burden of the basal ganglia perivascular space and cerebral microbleed is closely associated with significant impairment to the deep medullary vein. • The deep medullary vein damage score may reflect a risk of added vascular damage in small vessel occlusion acute ischemic stroke patients.
