Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to compare the pre- and post-operative vestibular and equilibrium functions of patients with cholesteatoma-induced labyrinthine fistulas who underwent different management methods. METHODS Data from 49 patients with cholesteatoma-induced labyrinthine fistulas who underwent one of three surgical procedures were retrospectively analysed. The three management options were fistula repair, obliteration and canal occlusion. RESULTS Patients underwent fistula repair (n = 8), canal occlusion (n = 18) or obliteration procedures (n = 23). Patients in the fistula repair and canal occlusion groups suffered from post-operative vertigo and imbalance, which persisted for longer than in those in the obliteration group. Despite receiving different management strategies, all patients achieved complete recovery of equilibrium functions through persistent efforts in rehabilitation exercises. CONCLUSION Complete removal of the cholesteatoma matrix overlying the fistula is reliable for preventing iatrogenic hearing deterioration due to unremitting labyrinthitis. Thus, among the three fistula treatments, obliteration is the optimal method for preserving post-operative vestibular functions.

NADase CD38 is a key determinant of ovarian aging. NATURE AGING 2024; 4:110-128. [PMID: 38129670 PMCID: PMC10798903 DOI: 10.1038/s43587-023-00532-9] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Grants] [Track Full Text] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 01/06/2023] [Accepted: 10/27/2023] [Indexed: 12/23/2023]
Abstract
The ovary ages earlier than most other tissues, yet the underlying mechanisms remain elusive. Here a comprehensive analysis of transcriptomic landscapes in different organs in young and middle-aged mice revealed that the ovaries showed earlier expression of age-associated genes, identifying increased NADase CD38 expression and decreased NAD+ levels in the ovary of middle-aged mice. Bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing revealed that CD38 deletion mitigated ovarian aging, preserving fertility and follicle reserve in aged mice by countering age-related gene expression changes and intercellular communication alterations. Mechanistically, the earlier onset of inflammation induced higher expression levels of CD38 and decreased NAD+ levels in the ovary, thereby accelerating ovarian aging. Consistently, pharmacological inhibition of CD38 enhanced fertility in middle-aged mice. Our findings revealed the mechanisms underlying the earlier aging of the ovary relative to other organs, providing a potential therapeutic target for ameliorating age-related female infertility.

Global Burden of Alzheimer's Disease and Other Dementias Attributed to High Fasting Plasma Glucose from 1990 to 2019. J Prev Alzheimers Dis 2024; 11:780-786. [PMID: 38706294 DOI: 10.14283/jpad.2024.47] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 05/07/2024]
Abstract
BACKGROUND Burden of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and other dementias have grown rapidly over the decades, and high fasting plasma glucose (HFPG) was one of the well-established risk factors. It is urgently needed to estimate the global burden of AD and other dementias attributable to high fasting plasma glucose between regions, countries, age groups, and sexes to inform development of effective primary disease prevention strategies and intervention policies. METHODS The burden of AD and other dementias attributable to HFPG was estimated based on a modeling strategy using the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019 dataset. The disease burden and time trend globally and by region, country, development level, age group, and sex were evaluated. RESULTS The number of AD and other dementias-related deaths attributable to HFPG increased from 42,998.23 (95% uncertainty interval, UI: 4459.86-163,455.78, the year of 1990) to 159,244.53 deaths (95% UI 18,385.23-583,514.15, the year of 2019). The age-standardized death rate increased from 1.69 (95% UI 0.18-6.54) in 1990 to 2.24 (95% UI 0.26-8.24) in 2019. The burden was higher in more developed regions. The burden in women was double that in men, that HFPG-attributable AD and other dementias caused 99,812.79 deaths (95% UI 9005.67-387,160.60) in women and 59,431.74 deaths (95% UI 5439.02-214,819.23) in men, with age-standardized death rate of 2.27 (95% UI 0.20-8.79) per 100,000 population in women and 2.20 (95% UI 0.20-8.00) in men. CONCLUSION Findings from the current study emphasizes the urgent requirement for targeted interventions in high-development regions, as well as the importance of proactive measures in middle-development countries in protection of AD and other dementias. The gender disparity necessitates the integration of gender-specific considerations in targeted approaches in prevention of AD and other dementias.

[Comparison of quality-of-life after proximal gastrectomy with double tract reconstruction versus gastric tube reconstruction in patients with proximal gastric cancer]. ZHONGHUA WEI CHANG WAI KE ZA ZHI = CHINESE JOURNAL OF GASTROINTESTINAL SURGERY 2023; 26:1162-1170. [PMID: 38110278 DOI: 10.3760/cma.j.cn441530-20230204-00026] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [MESH Headings] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 12/20/2023]
Abstract
Objective: To compare the surgical safety and postoperative quality of life between proximal gastrectomy with double tract reconstruction (PG-DT) and proximal gastrectomy with gastric tube reconstruction (PG-GT) for proximal gastric cancer. Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study of clinical and follow-up data of 99 patients with proximal gastric cancer who had undergone double tract or gastric tube surgery in Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital from January 2016 to September 2021. We allocated them to two groups according to surgical procedure, namely a double tract group (PG-DT, 50 patients) and gastric tube group (PG-GT, 49 patients). Proximal gastrectomy with double tract reconstruction entails constructing a Roux-en-Y esophagojejunostomy after severing the proximal stomach, and then constructing a side-to-side anastomosis between the residual stomach and the jejunum to establish an anti-reflux barrier and thus minimize postoperative gastroesophageal reflux. Proximal gastrectomy with gastric tube reconstruction entails severing the proximal gastric stomach, constructing a tubular shaped gastric remnant, and then using a linear stapler to directly anastomose the posterior wall of the esophagus to the anterior wall of the resultant gastric tube. The primary end point was the quality of life of the two groups 1 year postoperatively (post-gastrectomy syndrome assessment scale: the higher the scores for change in body mass, food intake per meal, meal quality subscale, total physical health measurement, and total mental health measurement, the better the quality-of-life, and the higher the scores for other indicators, the worse the quality-of-life). The secondary end points were intraoperative and postoperative status, changes in nutritional status 1, 3, 6, and 12 months postoperatively, and long-term postoperative complications (gastroesophageal reflux, anastomotic stenosis, intestinal obstruction, and gastric emptying disorder 1 year postoperatively). Results: In the PG-DT group, there were 35 (70%) men and 15 (30%) women, 33 (66.0%) patients were aged <65 years, and 37 (74.0%) of them had a body mass index of 18-25 kg/m2; whereas in the PG-GT group, there were 41 (83.7%) men and eight (16.3%) women, 21 (42.9%) patients aged <65 years, and 34 (69.4%) patients with a body mass index of 18-25 kg/m2. There were no significant differences in baseline data between the two groups except for age (P=0.021). There were no significant differences in intraoperative blood loss, number of lymph node dissected, length of hospital stay, and incidence of perioperative complications between the two groups (all P>0.05). Compared with the PG-GT group, the incidence and severity of postoperative reflux esophagitis were significantly lower in the PG-DT group (4.0% [2/50] vs. 26.5% [13/49], χ2=13.507, P=0.009). The incidences of postoperative anastomotic stenosis, intestinal obstruction, and gastric retention did not differ significantly between the two groups (all P>0.05). Patients in the PG-DT group had better quality-of-life scores for esophageal reflux (2.8 [2.3,4.0] vs. 4.8 [3.8,5.0], Z=3.489, P<0.001), eating discomfort (2.7 [1.7,3.0] vs. 3.3 [2.7,4.0 ], Z=3.393, P=0.001), and total symptoms (2.3 [1.7,2.7] vs. 2.5 [2.2,2.9], Z=2.243, P=0.025) than those in the gastric tube group; The scores for postoperative symptoms (2.0 [1.0,3.0] vs. 2.0 [2.0, 3.0], Z=2.127, P=0.033), meals consumed (2.0 [1.0, 2.0] vs. 2.0 [2.0, 3.0], Z=3.976, P<0.001), work (1.0 [1.0, 2.0] vs. 2.0 [1.0, 2.0], Z=2.279, P=0.023] and daily life (1.7 [1.3, 2.0] vs. 2.0 [2.0, 2.3], Z=3.950, P<0.001) were better in the PG-DT than the PG-GT group. Patients in the PG-GT group scored better than those in the PG-DT group for somatic symptoms, such as anal evacuation (3.0 [2.0, 4.0] vs. 3.5 [2.0, 5.0], Z=2.345, P=0.019). There were no significant differences in hemoglobin, serum albumin, serum total protein, or weight loss 1 year postoperatively between the two groups (all P>0.05). Conclusions: The safety of double tract anastomosis for proximal gastric cancer is comparable to that of gastric tube surgery. Compared with gastric tube surgery, double tract anastomosis achieves less esophageal reflux and better quality of life, making it a preferable surgical procedure for proximal gastric cancer.

Abstract
The incidence rate of liver cancer has been rising in recent years. Traditional cell line culture and human patient-derived tumor xenograft models, which are commonly used tools to simulate the occurrence of human liver cancer, have deepened the understanding of tumor occurrence, development, and drug resistance mechanisms. However, they cannot reflect the accurate state of cancer cells, the tumor microenvironment, or spatial structural characteristics. Recently, more in vitro-produced physiological liver organoids have been applied in the study of liver cancer. Liver organoid models have made breakthroughs in the occurrence and development mechanisms of liver cancer, personalized drug screening and biomarker identification, immunotherapy, and regenerative medicine applications. This paper mainly summarizes the progress and application of liver organoids processed in the study of liver cancer.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the etiology, complications, and prognostic factors of stage 5 chronic kidney disease (CKD5) in children. Methods: A case series study was conducted to retrospectively analyze the general situation, clinical manifestations, laboratory tests, genetic testing, and follow-up data (until October 2022) of 174 children with CKD5 who were diagnosed and hospitalized at the Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from April 2012 to April 2021. The characteristics of complications in the children were compared based on age, gender, and etiology. Based on the presence or absence of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), patients were divided into LVH group and non LVH group for analyzing the influencing factors of cardiovascular disease. Patients were also divided into death group and survival group, peritoneal dialysis group and hemodialysis group based on the follow-up data for analyzing the prognostic factors. The chi-square test, independent sample t-test, Fisher exact probability test, Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal Wallis test were used to analyze data among different groups. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis was used to identify the prognostic factors. Results: A total of 174 children with CKD5 were enrolled in the study (96 boys and 78 girls), aged 11.2 (8.2, 13.0) years. Congenital kidney and urinary tract malformations (CAKUT) were the most common causes of the CKD5 (84 cases, 48.3%), followed by glomerular diseases (83 cases, 47.7%), and among which 28 cases (16.1%) were hereditary glomerular diseases. The common complications of CKD5 included anemia (98.2%, 165/168), mineral and bone disorder in chronic kidney disease (CKD-MBD) (97.7%, 170/174), lipid metabolism disorders (87.5%, 63/72), hypertension (81.4%, 127/156) and LVH (57.6%,57/99). The incidences of hypertension in primary glomerular disease were higher than that in CAKUT(93.8%(30/32) vs.73.7%(56/76),χ2=5.59,P<0.05). The incidences of hypertension in secondary glomerular disease were higher than that in CAKUT and that in hereditary kidney disease (100.0%(20/20) vs. 73.7%(56/76), 68.2%(15/22), both P<0.05). The incidence of hypocalcemia in CAKUT, primary glomerular disease, and hereditary kidney disease was higher than that in secondary glomerular disease (82.1%(69/84), 88.2%(30/34), 89.3%(25/28) vs. 47.6%(10/21), χ2=10.21, 10.75, 10.80, all P=0.001); the incidence of secondary hyperparathyroidism in women was higher than that in men (80.0%(64/80) vs. 95.0%(57/60), χ2=6.58, P=0.010). The incidence of LVH in children aged 6-<12 was higher than that in children aged 12-18 (73.5%(25/34) vs. 43.1%(22/51), χ2=7.62, P=0.006). Among 113 follow-up children, the mortality rate was 39.8% (45/113). Compared to the survival group, the children in the death group had lower hemoglobin, higher blood pressure, lower albumin, lower alkaline phosphatase and higher left ventricular mass index ((67±19) vs. (75±20) g/L, 142 (126, 154) vs. 128(113, 145) mmHg(1 mmHg=0.133 kPa), (91±21) vs. (82±22) mmHg, 32 (26, 41) vs. 40 (31, 43) g/L, 151 (82, 214) vs. 215 (129, 37) U/L, 48 (38, 66) vs. 38(32, 50) g/m2.7,t=2.03, Z=2.89, t=2.70, Z=2.49, 2.79, 2.29,all P<0.05), but no independent risk factors were identified (all P>0.05). The peritoneal dialysis group had better alleviation for anemia, low calcium, and high phosphorus than the hemodialysis group ((87±22) vs. (72±16) g/L, (1.9±0.5) vs. (1.7±0.4) mmol/L, (2.2±0.7) vs. (2.8±0.9) mmol/L, t=2.92, 2.29, 2.82, all P<0.05), and the survival rate of the peritoneal dialysis group was significantly higher than that of the hemodialysis group (77.8% (28/36) vs. 48.4% (30/62), χ2=8.14, P=0.004). Conclusions: CAKUT is the most common etiology in children with CKD 5, and anemia is the most common complication. The incidence of complications in children with CKD 5 varies with age, gender and etiology. Anemia, hypertension, hypoalbuminemia, reduced alkaline phosphatase and elevated LVMI may be the prognostic factors in children with CKD5. Peritoneal dialysis may be more beneficial for improving the long-term survival rate.

Abstract
1. This study investigated the effects of lysolecithins (LL) on performance, egg quality, blood profiles, relative organ weight and liver histopathology in laying hens.2. A total of 480 healthy 65-week-old Lohmann laying hens were randomly allocated into four treatments in a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement design with two levels of energy (AMEn, 11.08 MJ/kg and 12.94 MJ/kg) and two levels of LL (0 and 0.05%).3. Birds fed high energy diets had lower (P < 0.05) average daily intake and feed conversion rate during weeks 0-4, 5-8 and 0-8, but higher (P < 0.05) average egg weight (AEW) during trial weeks 0-4. There was an interaction in (P < 0.05) AEW during trial weeks 0-14 and 0-8 for energy and LL. The high energy diets increased yolk colour at the end of weeks 2 and 4, while addition of LL increased albumen height at the end of week 2. There was an interaction (P < 0.05) in yolk colour between energy and LL at the end of week 2. There was an interaction (P < 0.05) in serum superoxide dismutase and LDL-C throughout the experiment.4. The high energy diets increased (P < 0.05) the relative weight of abdominal fat compared with low energy diets. The high energy diets increased (P < 0.05) liver ether extract content and liver pathological injury score compared with low energy diets at the end of week 8, while the addition of LL decreased (P < 0.05) liver pathological injury score.5. The supplementation of LL in high energy diets could alleviate some negative effects on liver injury in late laying hens.

Abstract
The quantum entangled J/ψ→Σ^{+}Σ[over ¯]^{-} pairs from (1.0087±0.0044)×10^{10} J/ψ events taken by the BESIII detector are used to study the nonleptonic two-body weak decays Σ^{+}→nπ^{+} and Σ[over ¯]^{-}→n[over ¯]π^{-}. The CP-odd weak decay parameters of the decays Σ^{+}→nπ^{+} (α_{+}) and Σ[over ¯]^{-}→n[over ¯]π^{-} (α[over ¯]_{-}) are determined to be 0.0481±0.0031_{stat}±0.0019_{syst} and -0.0565±0.0047_{stat}±0.0022_{syst}, respectively. The decay parameter α[over ¯]_{-} is measured for the first time, and the accuracy of α_{+} is improved by a factor of 4 compared to the previous results. The simultaneously determined decay parameters allow the first precision CP symmetry test for any hyperon decay with a neutron in the final state with the measurement of A_{CP}=(α_{+}+α[over ¯]_{-})/(α_{+}-α[over ¯]_{-})=-0.080±0.052_{stat}±0.028_{syst}. Assuming CP conservation, the average decay parameter is determined as ⟨α_{+}⟩=(α_{+}-α[over ¯]_{-})/2=-0.0506±0.0026_{stat}±0.0019_{syst}, while the ratios α_{+}/α_{0} and α[over ¯]_{-}/α[over ¯]_{0} are -0.0490±0.0032_{stat}±0.0021_{syst} and -0.0571±0.0053_{stat}±0.0032_{syst}, where α_{0} and α[over ¯]_{0} are the decay parameters of the decays Σ^{+}→pπ^{0} and Σ[over ¯]^{-}→p[over ¯]π^{0}, respectively.

Abstract
We study the process e^{+}e^{-}→Λ_{c}^{+}Λ[over ¯]_{c}^{-} at twelve center-of-mass energies from 4.6119 to 4.9509 GeV using data samples collected by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The Born cross sections and effective form factors (|G_{eff}|) are determined with unprecedented precision after combining the single and double-tag methods based on the decay process Λ_{c}^{+}→pK^{-}π^{+}. Flat cross sections around 4.63 GeV are obtained and no indication of the resonant structure Y(4630), as reported by Belle, is found. In addition, no oscillatory behavior is discerned in the |G_{eff}| energy dependence of Λ_{c}^{+}, in contrast to what is seen for the proton and neutron cases. Analyzing the cross section together with the polar-angle distribution of the Λ_{c}^{+} baryon at each energy point, the moduli of electric and magnetic form factors (|G_{E}| and |G_{M}|) are extracted and separated. For the first time, the energy dependence of the form factor ratio |G_{E}/G_{M}| is observed, which can be well described by an oscillatory function.

Efficacy of acupuncture in the treatment of limb dyskinesia after stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis. EUROPEAN REVIEW FOR MEDICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL SCIENCES 2023; 27:10985-10993. [PMID: 38039029 DOI: 10.26355/eurrev_202311_34467] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [MESH Headings] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 12/02/2023]
Abstract
OBJECTIVE This meta-analysis was performed to investigate the effectiveness of acupuncture in post-stroke limb movement disorders. MATERIALS AND METHODS An electronic search of databases including MEDLINE/PubMed, Web of Science, the Cochrane database, EMBASE, CBM, CNKI, WanFang, and VIP was performed to collect randomized controlled clinical studies on acupuncture administered for post-stroke dyskinesia from inception to April 2023. Data including baseline information, Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA) scores, and Barthel Index (BI) were included and analyzed using the meta package in R language. RESULTS After searching and screening, 17 pieces of literature involving 1,928 participants were included, with 962 participants in the control group and 966 in the study group. Results from the included studies suggested significant benefits provided by acupuncture to improve FMA scores and BI. In specific, incorporation of acupuncture in the treatment of post-stroke limb movement disorders significantly reduced the overall FMA scores of patients by 3.45 (95% CI: 0.22, 6.69) points, the upper extremity FMA scores by 3.63 (95% CI: 0.64, 6.62) points, the lower extremity FMA scores by 3.56 (95% CI: 1.78, 5.35) points, and BI by 7.75 (95% CI: 3.35, 12.16) points. CONCLUSIONS Acupuncture as an adjunct to the management of post-stroke limb movement disorders contributes significantly to enhancing the motor function and quality of life of patients. However, the evidence of this study is compromised by the limited quantity of the included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and the mediocre methodological quality. Therefore, high-quality randomized controlled trials are required to validate the benefits of acupuncture on the motor function of patients with post-stroke limb movement disorders.

[PMID: 37673210 DOI: 10.1016/j.annonc.2023.08.013] [Citation(s) in RCA: 1] [Impact Index Per Article: 1.0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 06/26/2023] [Revised: 08/09/2023] [Accepted: 08/22/2023] [Indexed: 09/08/2023] Open
Abstract
BACKGROUND Relapsed or refractory peripheral T-cell lymphomas (r/r PTCLs) are a group of rare and aggressive diseases that lack effective therapies. Constitutive activation of the Janus kinase (JAK)/signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) pathway is reported to be associated with PTCLs. Golidocitinib is an oral, potent JAK1 selective inhibitor evaluated in a phase I/II multinational study in patients with r/r PTCLs. PATIENTS AND METHODS Patients with r/r PTCLs were eligible. The primary objectives were to assess safety and tolerability of golidocitinib and to define its recommended phase II dose (RP2D). The secondary objectives were to evaluate its antitumor activity and pharmacokinetics (PK). RESULTS A total of 51 patients were enrolled and received golidocitinib treatment at 150 or 250 mg once daily (QD). The median prior lines of therapies were 2 (range: 1-8). Golidocitinib was tolerated at both doses tested, while a higher incidence of serious adverse events and dose modifications at 250 mg were observed. The most common grade ≥3 drug-related treatment-emergent adverse events were neutropenia (27.5%) and thrombocytopenia (11.8%). An objective response rate of 39.2% and a complete response rate of 21.6% were observed. With median follow-up time of 14.7 and 15.9 months, the median duration of response (DoR) and progression-free survival were 8.0 and 3.3 months, respectively. Based on these data, 150 mg QD was defined as the RP2D. Golidocitinib demonstrated a favorable PK profile as an oral agent. Biomarker analysis suggested a potential correlation between JAK/STAT pathway aberrations and clinical activity of golidocitinib. CONCLUSIONS In this phase I study, golidocitinib demonstrated an acceptable safety profile and encouraging antitumor efficacy in heavily pretreated patients with r/r PTCLs. These results support the initiation of the multinational pivotal study in patients with r/r PTCLs.

Abstract
The first observation and study of two new baryonic structures in the final state Ξ_{b}^{0}π^{+}π^{-} and the confirmation of the Ξ_{b}(6100)^{-} state in the Ξ_{b}^{-}π^{+}π^{-} decay mode are reported using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb^{-1}. In addition, the properties of the known Ξ_{b}^{*0}, Ξ_{b}^{'-} and Ξ_{b}^{*-} resonances are measured with improved precision. The new decay mode of the Ξ_{b}^{0} baryon to the Ξ_{c}^{+} π^{-} π^{+} π^{-} final state is observed and exploited for the first time in these measurements.

Abstract
A flavor-tagged time-dependent angular analysis of the decay B_{s}^{0}→ϕϕ is performed using pp collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at the center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb^{-1}. The CP-violating phase and direct CP-violation parameter are measured to be ϕ_{s}^{ss[over ¯]s}=-0.042±0.075±0.009 rad and |λ|=1.004±0.030±0.009, respectively, assuming the same values for all polarization states of the ϕϕ system. In these results, the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. These parameters are also determined separately for each polarization state, showing no evidence for polarization dependence. The results are combined with previous LHCb measurements using pp collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, yielding ϕ_{s}^{ss[over ¯]s}=-0.074±0.069 rad and |λ|=1.009±0.030. This is the most precise study of time-dependent CP violation in a penguin-dominated B meson decay. The results are consistent with CP symmetry and with the standard model predictions.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the selection strategy of pedicled axial flaps for repairing high-voltage electric burn wounds in foot and ankle. Methods: The retrospective observational research method was used. From January 2017 to December 2022, 16 patients with skin and soft tissue defects in foot and ankle after high-voltage electric burns were treated in General Hospital of Eastern Theater Command, including 11 cases of unilateral defect and 5 cases of bilateral defect. All patients were male, aged from 25 to 75 years. After thorough debridement, the area of the defect to be repaired with the flap was 5.0 cm×4.0 cm to 12.0 cm×8.0 cm. Before operation, the color Doppler ultrasound, computed tomography angiography, or digital subtraction angiography was used to fully evaluate the degree of vascular injury in the affected limb and to identify the distribution and traffic anastomosis of vascular network. Pedicled axial flaps with reliable blood supply were used to repair the wounds as soon as possible, and the area of flaps ranged from 3.0 cm×2.0 cm to 13.0 cm×8.0 cm. The wound in the donor area of flaps was repaired with split-thickness skin graft from head or medium-thickness skin graft from thigh. The flap repair of wounds in various areas of the ankle and foot was recorded. The postoperative survivals of the flaps and skin grafts were observed after surgery. The postoperative appearance of flaps and walking function of patients were followed up. At the last follow-up, the foot and ankle function was evaluated and rated using the American Association of Foot and Ankle Surgeons Ankle Posterior Foot Scoring System. Results: Two wounds in toe area were repaired with reverse dorsal pedis flaps, 3 wounds in medial ankle area and 2 wounds in heel area were repaired with medial plantar flaps, 2 wounds in anterior plantar area combined with toe area were repaired with reverse medial plantar flaps, 2 wounds in anterior plantar area combined with toe area and 5 wounds in anterior plantar area were repaired with reverse medial pedis flaps, 1 wound in toe area was combined with proper plantar digital artery flap, 1 dorsal pedis wound and 1 lateral malleolus wound were repaired with lateral supramalleolar perforator flaps, and 1 lateral malleolus wound and 1 dorsal pedis wound were repaired with sural neurovascular flap. One flap had venous reflux disorder after surgery and survived after treatment, while the other flaps and skin grafts survived completely after surgery. During the follow-up of 6 to 24 months after operation, the appearance of the flaps was good, and the walking function of patients was normal. At the last follow-up, the functional score of foot and ankle was 76 to 95, which was evaluated as excellent in 11 cases and good in 5 cases. Conclusions: According to the condition of high-voltage electric burn in foot and ankle, early and thorough debridement, preoperative imaging examination to evaluate blood vessels of the affected limb, and selection of pedicled axial flap with reliable blood supply are good methods for wound repair and related functional reconstruction of high-voltage electric burn in foot and ankle.

Abstract
A narrow structure in the pΛ[over ¯] system near the mass threshold, named as X(2085), is observed in the process e^{+}e^{-}→pK^{-}Λ[over ¯] with a statistical significance greater than 20σ. Its spin and parity are determined for the first time to be J^{P}=1^{+} in an amplitude analysis, with a statistical significance greater than 5σ over other quantum numbers (0^{-},1^{-} and 2^{+}). The pole positions of X(2085) are measured to be M_{pole}=(2084_{-2}^{+4}±9) MeV and Γ_{pole}=(58_{-3}^{+4}±25) MeV, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones are systematic. The analysis is based on the study of the process e^{+}e^{-}→pK^{-}Λ[over ¯] and uses the data samples collected with the BESIII detector at the center-of-mass energies sqrt[s]=4.008, 4.178, 4.226, 4.258, 4.416, and 4.682 GeV with a total integrated luminosity of 8.35 fb^{-1}.

Abstract
The branching fraction of the rare decay Λ_{b}^{0}→Λ(1520)μ^{+}μ^{-} is measured for the first time, in the squared dimuon mass intervals q^{2}, excluding the J/ψ and ψ(2S) regions. The data sample analyzed was collected by the LHCb experiment at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV, corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 9 fb^{-1}. The result in the highest q^{2} interval, q^{2}>15.0 GeV^{2}/c^{4}, where theoretical predictions have the smallest model dependence, agrees with the predictions.

Abstract
The process e^{+}e^{-}→D_{s}^{*+}D_{s}^{*-} is studied with a semi-inclusive method using data samples at center-of-mass energies from threshold to 4.95 GeV collected with the BESIII detector operating at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider. The Born cross sections of the process are measured for the first time with high precision in this energy region. Two resonance structures are observed in the energy-dependent cross sections around 4.2 and 4.4 GeV. By fitting the cross sections with a coherent sum of three Breit-Wigner amplitudes and one phase-space amplitude, the two significant structures are assigned masses of (4186.8±8.7±30) and (4414.6±3.4±6.1) MeV/c^{2}, widths of (55±15±53) and (122.5±7.5±8.1) MeV, where the first errors are statistical and the second ones are systematic. The inclusion of a third Breit-Wigner amplitude is necessary to describe a structure around 4.79 GeV.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the expression differences of LLGL2 between prostatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDA) and prostatic acinar adenocarcinoma, and its potential clinical significance. Methods: Eighteen patients diagnosed of PDA or prostatic acinar adenocarcinoma with PDA component by histopathology during January 2015 and December 2019 in the Beijing Hospital, China were retrospectively studied. The transcriptome analysis was conducted using the tissue of PDA and prostatic acinar adenocarcinoma. Differentially expressed genes and the differences in expression profiles were identified. Further, differentially expressed proteins were verified by immunohistochemistry. Results: The tissue from 8 of the 18 patients were used for transcriptome analysis, the results of which were compared with data from public databases. 129 differentially expressed genes were identified. 45 of them were upregulated while 84 were downregulated. The results of gene enrichment analysis and gene oncology (GO) analysis revealed that the differentially expressed genes were mostly enriched in the hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and interleukin-17 related pathways. GPAT2, LLGL2, MAMDC4, PCSK9 and SMIM6 were differentially expressed between PDA and prostatic acinar adenocarcinoma. Moreover, LLGL2 was more likely expressed in the cytoplasm (P=0.04) than the nucleus (P<0.01) in PDA, compared with prostatic acinar adenocarcinoma. Conclusions: The gene expression profiling indicates that PDA are very similar to prostatic acinar adenocarcinoma. Among the differentially expressed proteins screened and verified in this study, the expression of GPAT2, LLGL2, MAMDC4 and PCSK9 is increased in PDA, while that of SMIM6 is reduced in PDA. The expression of LLGL2 shows significantly different patterns between PDA and prostatic acinar carcinoma, and thus may help differentiate PDA from prostatic acinar adenocarcinoma in clinical practice.

Abstract
Using 7.33 fb^{-1} of e^{+}e^{-} collision data taken with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we report the first experimental study of the purely leptonic decay D_{s}^{*+}→e^{+}ν_{e}. Our data contain a signal of this decay with a statistical significance of 2.9σ. The branching fraction of D_{s}^{*+}→e^{+}ν_{e} is measured to be (2.1_{-0.9_{stat}}^{+1.2}±0.2_{syst})×10^{-5}, corresponding to an upper limit of 4.0×10^{-5} at the 90% confidence level. Taking the total width of the D_{s}^{*+} [(0.070±0.028) keV] predicted with the radiative D_{s}^{*+} decay from the lattice QCD calculation as input, the decay constant of the D_{s}^{*+} is determined to be f_{D_{s}^{*+}}=(214_{-46_{stat}}^{+61}±44_{syst}) MeV, corresponding to an upper limit of 354 MeV at the 90% confidence level.

Overcoming Radio-Immunotherapy Treatment Resistance through ILT4 Blockade and Reversal of HFRT Induced CXCL1-CXCR2 Axis Activation and Tumor-Associated Macrophage Immunosuppression. Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Immunotherapy combined with radiotherapy (iRT) has unlimited potential, but up to 60% of cancer patients do not benefit from it. Enhancing the anti-tumor immune stimulatory effect triggered by radiotherapy is the key to overcome iRT resistance. Immunoglobulin-like transcript (ILT) 4 is a potential immune checkpoint molecule, highly expressed in various tumor cells, but its role in radiotherapy is still unknown. This study confirmed the role and molecular mechanism of ILT4 in suppressing radiotherapy immunosuppressive microenvironment formation and promoting tumor radiotherapy resistance. We propose a new therapeutic strategy that block ILT4 to enhance the efficacy of radiotherapy, and cooperate with radiotherapy to reverse immunotherapy resistance. MATERIALS/METHODS Using multiplex immunohistochemistry, we analyzed ILT4 expression, tumor-associated macrophage (TAM) /T cell phenotype and quantity in tumor patient treated with SBRT. Using mice subcutaneous tumor models, Single-cell RNA sequencing and multiplex flowcytometry, we assessed the role of ILT4 inhibition and hyper-fractionated radiotherapy (HFRT) on preventing tumor growth and immune escape. The molecular signaling and cytokines regulated by ILT4 under HFRT were analyzed by transcriptome sequencing and further verified by molecular experiments. By establishing cancer cell/TAM co-culture system in vitro, using CXCL1 protein or CXCR2 inhibitor and macrophage/CD8+ T cell deletion antibody in vivo, we identified the downstream pathway and cytokine of ILT4 to enhancing HFRT -induced TAM immune response. RESULTS In the tumor specimens of NSCLC patients treated with SBRT, we found that high ILT4 expression predicted poor progression-free survival and more M2-TAM recruitment. Among the C57BL/6 mice model, ILT4 inhibition in cancer cells reduced HFRT mediated M2-TAMs accumulation, and to sustain activation and proliferation of CD8+ T cells, and eventually suppressed tumor progression. Mechanistically, RT promoted ILT4 expression, which subsequently induced NF-κB pathway activation and CXCL1 secretion to enhance M2-TAMs migration in vitro. Using CXCL1 protein or CXCR2 inhibitor administration, inferring that ILT4 promotes TAMs migration via NF-κB-CXCL1-CXCR2 axis. Consistently, depletion of TAMs blocked the T cell function impairment and radiotherapy resistance induced by ILT4 in vivo. Importantly, targeting ILT4 potentiated the effect of radiotherapy, overcomes radio-immunotherapy treatment resistance. CONCLUSION ILT4 mediates HFRT-induced M2-like TAMs recruitment and subsequently T cell response impairment by regulating NF-κB-CXCL1-CXCR2 axis. ILT4 is an attractive drug target for enhancing radiotherapy and overcomes radio-immunotherapy treatment resistance.

Abstract
AIM To develop and validate a computed tomography (CT)-based radiomics nomogram for preoperative prediction of microsatellite instability (MSI) status and clinical outcomes in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS This retrospective study enrolled 497 CRC patients from three centres. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression was utilised for feature selection and constructing the radiomics signature. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were employed to identify significant clinical variables. The radiomics nomogram was constructed by integrating the radiomics signature and the identified clinical variables. The performance of the nomogram was evaluated through receiver operating characteristic curves, calibration curves, and decision curve analysis. Kaplan-Meier analysis was performed to investigate the prognostic value of the nomogram. RESULTS The radiomics signature comprised 10 radiomics features associated with MSI status. The nomogram, integrating the radiomics signature and independent predictors (age, location, and thickness), demonstrated favourable calibration and discrimination, achieving areas under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves (AUCs) of 0.89 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.83-0.95), 0.87 (95% CI: 0.79-0.95), 0.88 (95% CI: 0.81-0.96), and 0.86 (95% CI: 0.78-0.93) in the training cohort, internal validation cohort, and two external validation cohorts, respectively. The nomogram exhibited superior performance compared to the clinical model (p<0.05). Additionally, survival analysis demonstrated that the nomogram successfully stratified stage II CRC patients based on prognosis (hazard ratio [HR]: 0.357, p=0.022). CONCLUSION The radiomics nomogram demonstrated promising performance in predicting MSI status and stratifying the prognosis of patients with CRC.

Projected Lifetime Earnings of a Radiation Oncologist. Int J Radiat Oncol Biol Phys 2023; 117:e636. [PMID: 37785897 DOI: 10.1016/j.ijrobp.2023.06.2039] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 10/04/2023]
Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) The estimated lifetime earnings of a radiation oncologist depend on many choices and have not been calculated. The objective of this work is to project the year-by-year and cumulative lifetime earnings of a US-based radiation oncologist based on various career pathways. MATERIALS/METHODS We modeled lifetime earnings based on undergraduate training (reference: assumes starting at age 18, tuition/loans of $40,000 x 4 years), MD/DO (reference: assumes tuition/loans of $55,000 x 4 years, 8% interest) vs MD/PhD program (assumes no tuition, $30,000 yearly stipend x 8 years), gap year(s), fellowship, employment paths (academic, private practice, hospital employed, physician scientist with NIH salary cap), adjustable salary during employment (based on 2016-2018 AAMC and MGMA; e.g., promotion for academic track, partnership for private practice), adjustable state and federal income taxes, loan repayment options (e.g., out of pocket, NIH loan repayment program [LRP], public service loan forgiveness [PSLF]). The primary outcome was cumulative lifetime earnings, and additional analyses were conducted based on changes in career paths. We created a web-based application to simulate the various choices using R Shiny: https://physician-earnings.shinyapps.io/rshiny/. RESULTS For an academic radiation oncologist, assuming MD/DO degree, national average of $220,000 in loans at medical school graduation, 5% state income tax, no gap years, pursuing PSLF, starting as assistant professor, 7 year promotion until associate professor, and 7 subsequent year promotion to full professor, and retirement age of 65, the post-tax median lifetime earnings are $9,610,675 (IQR $8,097,433 - $10,885,824), with $5,242,653 federal + state taxes. With the private practice setting, the median lifetime earnings are $11,383,781 (IQR $9,875,040 - $13,325,316). As a hospital employee, the median lifetime earnings are $8,834,886 (IQR $8,127,132 - $10,166,145). As an NIH-salary capped physician scientist, the median lifetime earnings are $4,678,668 (IQR not provided, given one set cap). Using the academic track as the reference group, the median lifetime earnings would change as follows: $9,333,434 (IQR $7,876,310 - $10,572,388) for those who pursue one paid undergraduate gap year; $9,125,590 (IQR $7,822,115 - $10,274,801) for those who pursue MD/PhD programs; $10,365,300 (IQR $8,725,954 - $11,746,712) for those with 0% state income tax during practice; and $9,565,364 (IQR $7,875,284 - $10,802,830) for those who repay their loans out of pocket at 50% of their attending salary. PSLF and NIH LRP allow one to cross a net worth of $0 by their mid-30s; pursuit of fellowship, starting as an instructor in academics, salary in bottom quartile %, paying loans out of pocket, and gap years all delay this landmark by 1-4 years. NIH-salary capped positions have the largest negative impact on lifetime earnings, by > $5,000,000. CONCLUSION We created a model to estimate lifetime earnings of a radiation oncologist in the US.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Academic physicians typically do not receive a salary based on individual publications; however, publications are necessary for promotion, and the impact of publication productivity among ranks on salary is unknown. The objective of this was to evaluate salary changes associated with publication productivity among academic radiation oncologists. MATERIALS/METHODS Radiation oncologist faculty-level academic productivity data were obtained, including the h-index, m-index, number of papers, and number of citations, based on prior work (Holliday et al, 2014). The AAMC and MGMA Provider Compensation Data from 2017 provided percentile-level salaries. The delta in salary was calculated for each delta in rank the publication metrics among ranks. The primary outcome was delta in salary per delta in h-index; additional calculations were performed for delta in m-index and delta in publications. RESULTS A total of 986 radiation oncologists were included. For assistant professor, median salary was $367,000, average h-index 6.8, m-index 0.68, 15.7 publications. For associate professor, median salary was $452,000, average h-index 14, m-index 0.87, 41.8 publications. For full professor, median salary was $520,000, average h-index 31.3, m-index 1.33, 118.7 publications. For chair (not mutually exclusive from full professor), median salary was $720,000, average h-index 34.8, m-index 1.36, 146.8 publications. The delta in salary per delta in rank and the associated changes in h-index, m-index, and publications are shown in Table 1. The average change in salary from assistant to associate professor is $11,805.56 / h-index, $447,368.42 / m-index, and $3,256.70 / publication; for associate to full it is $3,930.64 / h-index, $147,826.09 / m-index, and $884.27 / publication; and for full to chair it is $57,142.86 / h-index, and $7,117.44 / publication. CONCLUSION This work provides the average change in salary among academic ranks based on changes in research publication productivity. Our present analysis is unable to assess causality of this association, and many unaccounted confounders may affect this relationship. Further work in this area may include evaluation of demographic factors that have demonstrated rank and salary disparities in radiation oncology, such as gender.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Glioblastoma is an intracranial highly malignant primary tumor, and postoperative radiotherapy is a common treatment of glioblastoma. While radiotherapy resistance of glioblastoma is an important reason for treatment failure. IKBKE is overexpressed in gliomas, but its role in radiotherapy is unknown. This study confirmed that IKBKE can directly phosphorylate AKT protein to regulate FOXO3a, thus promoting the radioresistance of glioblastoma, and proposed a new therapeutic strategy to enhance the efficacy of radiotherapy. MATERIALS/METHODS We used flow cytometry, tunel staining, plate cloning, a cell counting kit and WB to confirm the effects of IKBKE and FOXO3a on radioresistance of glioblastoma, and immunofluorescence and WB were used to detect the expression of γ-H2AX. Subcutaneous tumor formation in mice and immunohistochemical staining was performed. IP combined with mass spectrometry, immunofluorescence, endogenous and exogenous IP were used to confirm the interaction between IKBKE and AKT. Point mutation, IP and WB were used to confirm the phosphorylation site of AKT. IP and some small molecule inhibitors were used to confirm the relationship between IKBKE, AKT and PI3K. The effect of IKBKE on FOXO3a was confirmed by WB and qPCR. The protein relationship among IKBKE, FOXO3a and 14-3-3 was confirmed by CHX, MG132, ubiquitin test, immunofluorescence and IP. The above experiments were carried out to verify the effect of Amlexanox, an IKBKE inhibitor, on glioblastoma. And its pharmacokinetics in the brain was determined by LC-MS to provide a theoretical basis for further clinical use. RESULTS It was found that IKBKE could increase the radioresistance of glioblastoma in vitro and in vivo. IKBKE could directly phosphorylate AKT, and its phosphorylation sites were Ser473 and Thr308. We also certified that IKBKE activated AKT independent of PI3K. IKBKE inhibited the expression of FOXO3a on protein level, promoted its ubiquitin degradation, enhanced its interaction with 14-3-3, and inhibited its transportation into the nucleus. FOXO3a can increase the radiosensitivity of glioblastoma. Amlexanox, an IKBKE inhibitor, can inhibit the radiosensitivity of glioblastoma and partially pass through the blood-brain barrier to enhance the radiosensitivity of intracranial tumors. CONCLUSION IKBKE can activate AKT independent of PI3K by directly phosphorylating AKT Ser473 and Thr308, thus increasing the phosphorylation of FOXO3a. Phosphorylated FOXO3a promoted its ubiquitin degradation, and inhibited its transportation into the nucleus, causing radioresistance in glioblastoma. IKBKE inhibitor Amlexanox can pass through the blood-brain barrier and increase the radiosensitivity of intracranial tumor cells.

Impact of shift work on dementia: a systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis. Public Health 2023; 223:80-86. [PMID: 37625271 DOI: 10.1016/j.puhe.2023.07.029] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 05/09/2023] [Revised: 06/26/2023] [Accepted: 07/21/2023] [Indexed: 08/27/2023]
Abstract
OBJECTIVES Although shift work has been reported as having a link to dementia, evidence remains inconsistent, and a comprehensive dose-response meta-analysis of the association is still lacking. We therefore conducted this meta-analysis to explore the association between shift work and the risk of dementia. STUDY DESIGN Systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis. METHODS PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases were systematically searched. Fixed or random-effects models were used to estimate the summary relative risks (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs). Generalized least squares regression was used to estimate dose-response associations, and restricted cubic splines were used to examine possible linear or non-linear associations. RESULTS Five articles (10 studies) with 72,999 participants and 23,067 cases were eventually included in the meta-analysis. The summary RRs and 95% CIs of dementia risk with shift work and night shift work versus daytime work were 1.13 (95% CI: 1.05-1.21, I2 = 46.70%) and 1.13 (95% CI: 1.03-1.24, I2 = 9.20%), respectively. The risk of dementia increased by 1% (RR = 1.01, 95% CI: 1.01-1.02, I2 = 41.3%) with each 1-year increase in the duration of shift work. We found a non-linear dose-response association between the duration of shift work and the risk of dementia (Pnon-linearity = 0.006). Though the shape of the curve was steeper with the duration of shift work <7 years, the increase was more gradual after 7 years. CONCLUSION Our findings suggest that shift work may be a risk factor for future dementia and that controlling the length of shift work is a feasible measure that may contribute to prevent dementia.

Recombinant Treponema pallidum protein Tp47 promoted the phagocytosis of macrophages by activating NLRP3 inflammasome induced by PKM2-dependent glycolysis. J Eur Acad Dermatol Venereol 2023; 37:2067-2079. [PMID: 37247195 DOI: 10.1111/jdv.19231] [Citation(s) in RCA: 2] [Impact Index Per Article: 2.0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [MESH Headings] [Grants] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 01/05/2023] [Accepted: 05/05/2023] [Indexed: 05/30/2023]
Abstract
BACKGROUND Glycolysis is a critical pathway in cellular glucose metabolism that provides energy and participates in immune responses. However, whether glycolysis is involved in NOD-like receptor family protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome activation and phagocytosis of macrophages in response to Treponema pallidum infection remains unclear. OBJECTIVES To investigate the role of glycolysis in activating the NLRP3 inflammasome for regulating phagocytosis in macrophages in response to T. pallidum protein Tp47 and its associated mechanisms. METHODS Interactions between activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome and phagocytosis and the role of glycolysis in Tp47-treated macrophages were investigated through experiments on peritoneal macrophages and human monocytic cell line-derived macrophages. RESULTS Activation of phagocytosis and NLRP3 inflammasome were observed in Tp47-treated macrophages. Treatment with NLRP3 inhibitor MCC950 or si-NLRP3 attenuated Tp47-induced phagocytosis. Glycolysis and glycolytic capacity were enhanced by Tp47 stimulation in macrophages, and a change in the levels of glycolytic metabolites (phosphoenolpyruvate, citrate and lactate) was induced by Tp47 in macrophages. Inhibition of glycolysis with 2-deoxy-D-glucose, a glycolysis inhibitor, decreased the activation of NLRP3. Expression of M2 isoform of pyruvate kinase (PKM2), an enzyme catalysing a rate-limiting reaction in the glycolytic pathway, was upregulated in Tp47-stimulated macrophages. Inhibition of PKM2 with shikonin or si-PKM2 decreased glycolysis and NLRP3 activation. CONCLUSION Tp47 promotes phagocytosis in macrophages by activating the NLRP3 inflammasome, which is induced by the enhancement of PKM2-dependent glycolysis.

Grade 4 Lymphopenia Might Associate with Pericardial Irradiation Dose and Worse Prognosis in Patients with Locally Advanced Esophageal Cancer Receiving Concurrent Chemo-Radiotherapy. Int J Radiat Oncol Biol Phys 2023; 117:e287. [PMID: 37785065 DOI: 10.1016/j.ijrobp.2023.06.1276] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 10/04/2023]
Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) The immune system may influence prognosis, and lymphopenia is a frequent side effect of concurrent chemo-radiotherapy (CCRT). Radical irradiation for locally advanced esophageal cancer (LA-EC) exposes significant vascular and heart volumes, and we hypothesized that lymphopenia is linked to cardiac and pericardial doses and affects patient prognosis. MATERIALS/METHODS We identified 190 LA-EC patients who received radical CCRT between 2011 and 2019. Cardiac, pericardial, and lung dosimetric parameters were obtained and multivariate analysis (MVA) was performed to correlate clinical factors and dosimetric parameters with overall survival (OS). Absolute lymphocyte count (ALC), absolute platelet count (PLT), absolute white blood cell count (WBC), absolute neutrophil count (ANC), neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR = ANC/ALC), and platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR = PLT/ALC) were collected before and during CRT. Grade 4 (G4) lymphopenia was defined as Lymphocyte count nadir <0.2 103/mL during CRT and it was used to dichotomize the lymphocyte count nadir. MVA was performed to correlate hematologic toxicity with OS. Logistic stepwise regression was performed to determine the relationship between dosimetric parameters and G4 lymphopenia. Finally, a nomogram of G4 lymphopenia was developed and validated externally. RESULTS Median follow-up time for all patients was 27.5 months (range 12-118 months). On MVA for OS (n = 190), higher pericardial V30 (PV30) was linked to worse survival (HR = 1.013, 95% CI 1.001-1.026, p = 0.039). The median OS stratified by PV30>55.3% and PV30≤55.3% was 24 months and 54 months, respectively (p = 0.004). G4 lymphopenia was shown to be linked with worse OS in the MVA of hematological toxicity (n = 161) with OS (HR = 2.042, 95% CI 1.335-3.126, p = 0.001). 24 (24%) of the 100 patients in the training set had G4 lymphopenia. Our final model comprised Stage-IVA (p = 0.017), PLR during CRT (p = 0.008), Heart V50 (p = 0.046), and PV30 (p = 0.048). External validation 26 of 90 patients (29%) had grade 4 lymphocytopenia. The ROC curve displays an AUC for internal validation of 0.775 and external validation of 0.843. CONCLUSION Higher doses of pericardial radiation might affect LA-EC patients' prognosis by inducing G4 lymphopenia in CCRT process. Further prospective studies are warranted to confirm these findings, especially in the era of immune-checkpoint inhibitor treatment.

Comparison of Two Triple Therapy Regimens for Enhancing the Abscopal Effect in Mice. Int J Radiat Oncol Biol Phys 2023; 117:e256. Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Localized radiotherapy (RT) can cause a T cell-mediated abscopal effect on non-irradiated tumor lesions, especially in combination with immune checkpoint blockade (ICB). However, this effect is still clinically rare and improvements are highly desirable. We here compared two triple therapy regimens (RT+⍺PD1+⍺CTLA4 vs. RT+⍺PD1+IL2/⍺IL2 complexes (IL2c)) for their efficacy to improve systemic (abscopal) anti-tumor effects. MATERIALS/METHODS In mice bearing bilateral subcutaneous C51 colon carcinoma tumors, the primary tumor was irradiated with two fractions of 8 Gy. ⍺PD1 and ⍺CTLA4 were given concomitantly and weekly thereafter; IL2c was given i.p. for 3 consecutive days. Besides tumor size and survival, tumor-specific CD8+ T cells were determined flow cytometrically using MHC-I tetramers and various antibodies. In addition, isolated TILs were cultured with PMA, ionomycin, and Brefeldin A in vitro to assess polyfunctionality (based on cytokine production) of CD8+ and CD4+ TILs. RESULTS The abscopal effect was significantly stronger in mice treated with the ⍺CTLA4-containing triple combination (n = 13) than in mice treated with the IL2c-containing triple combination (n = 9) (p<0,05), and compared to mice treated with RT+⍺PD1 (n = 8) (p<0,05) or RT+⍺CTLA4 (n = 10) (p<0,05), respectively. The IL2c triple combination induced the abscopal effect better than RT+⍺PD1 (p<0,05). The ⍺CTLA4 triple therapy improved survival and resulted in complete cures of 8/13 mice. In mice treated with ⍺CTLA4-containing triple therapy, control of the irradiated tumor was partially dependent and that of the non-irradiated tumor was strongly dependent on T cells, primarily CD8 T cells but also CD4 T cells. With ⍺CTLA4 triple treatment (n = 9), the frequency and absolute numbers of polyfunctional TNF-⍺+IFN-γ+ AH-1 tumor-specific CD8+ T cells, IFN-γ+IL2+ AH-1 tumor-specific CD8+ T cells, TNF-⍺+IFN-γ+ CD4+ and IFN-γ+IL2+ CD4+ effector T cells were higher than with the IL2c triple combination (n = 9) (p<0,05), particularly in the non-irradiated tumors. CONCLUSION RT+⍺PD1+⍺CTLA4 triple treatment induced more cytotoxic effector TILs than RT+⍺PD1+IL2c triple treatment, enhancing the abscopal effect and inducing a high abscopal cure rate. More experiments underway to reveal mechanisms.

Evidence of a J/ψK_{S}^{0} Structure in B^{0}→J/ψϕK_{S}^{0} Decays. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2023; 131:131901. Abstract
An amplitude analysis of B^{0}→J/ψϕK_{S}^{0} decays is performed using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb^{-1}, collected with the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV. Evidence with a significance of 4.0 standard deviations of a structure in the J/ψK_{S}^{0} system, named T_{ψs1}^{θ}(4000)^{0}, is seen, with its mass and width measured to be 3991_{-10}^{+12} _{-17}^{+9} MeV/c^{2} and 105_{-25}^{+29} _{-23}^{+17} MeV, respectively, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The T_{ψs1}^{θ}(4000)^{0} state is likely to be the isospin partner of the T_{ψs1}^{θ}(4000)^{+} state, previously observed in the J/ψK^{+} system of the B^{+}→J/ψϕK^{+} decay. When isospin symmetry for the charged and neutral T_{ψs1}^{θ}(4000) states is assumed, the signal significance increases to 5.4 standard deviations.

Pan-tissue scaling of stiffness versus fibrillar collagen reflects contractility-driven strain that inhibits fibril degradation. BIORXIV : THE PREPRINT SERVER FOR BIOLOGY 2023:2023.09.27.559759. Abstract
Polymer network properties such as stiffness often exhibit characteristic power laws in polymer density and other parameters. However, it remains unclear whether diverse animal tissues, composed of many distinct polymers, exhibit such scaling. Here, we examined many diverse tissues from adult mouse and embryonic chick to determine if stiffness ( E tissue ) follows a power law in relation to the most abundant animal protein, Collagen-I, even with molecular perturbations. We quantified fibrillar collagen in intact tissue by second harmonic generation (SHG) imaging and from tissue extracts by mass spectrometry (MS), and collagenase-mediated decreases were also tracked. Pan-tissue power laws for tissue stiffness versus Collagen-I levels measured by SHG or MS exhibit sub-linear scaling that aligns with results from cellularized gels of Collagen-I but not acellular gels. Inhibition of cellular myosin-II based contraction fits the scaling, and combination with inhibitors of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) show collagenase activity is strain - not stress- suppressed in tissues, consistent with past studies of gels and fibrils. Beating embryonic hearts and tendons, which differ in both collagen levels and stiffness by >1000-fold, similarly suppressed collagenases at physiological strains of ∼5%, with fiber-orientation regulating degradation. Scaling of E tissue based on 'use-it-or-lose-it' kinetics provides insight into scaling of organ size, microgravity effects, and regeneration processes while suggesting contractility-driven therapeutics.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinical value of the novel approach, radical resection of the retroperitoneal lipo-lymphatic layer (RRRLLL),in the surgical treatment of resectable pancreatic head cancer. Methods: Between June 2020 and June 2022,a total of 221 patients with pancreatic head cancer underwent surgical treatment using the RRRLLL approach(RRRLLL group),while 107 patients received traditional surgical treatment(traditional group) in five high-volume pancreatic centers in China. Data from surgical technique and clinical perioperative outcomes, including lymph node harvested, surgical time, and complications, were analyzed. The RRRLLL group consisted of 144 males and 77 females with an age of (67.5±9.0) years(range:41.3 to 81.1 years). The traditional group included 71 males and 36 females, with an age of (66.3±8.1) years(range:45.1 to 79.2 years). Statistical analysis was performed using the K-S test,Z test,or χ2 test. Results: Pancreaticoduodenectomy was performed successfully in all patients, achieving R0 resection. RRRLLL group surgery required mobilization of retroperitoneal adipose and lymphatic tissues starting from the right edge of the inferior vena cava and extending to the left side,up to the superior mesenteric artery, down to the inferior mesenteric artery, and left to the left side of the aorta, including the perineural and lymphatic tissues around the superior mesenteric artery and the sheath of the mesenteric artery. However, the traditional group did not include the areas mentioned above in the scope of clearance. There were no statistically significant differences between the RRRLLL group and the traditional group in terms of age, sex, tumor size,T stage, and vascular invasion (all P>0.05). However, the number of lymph nodes harvested in the RRRLLL group was significantly higher at 28.7±9.0 (range: 18 to 39) compared to 18.2±8.0 (range: 12 to 21) in the traditional group (Z=-10.691,P<0.05). There were no statistically significant differences in the number of positive lymph nodes,N staging, and postoperative complications between the two groups. Conclusion: The RRRLLL approach improved lymph node dissection compared to the traditional approach, potentially leading to reduced recurrence rates.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the prevalence of comorbid depression and anxiety and to evaluate the effect of psychological interventions among schistosomiasis patients in China, so as to provide insights into improvements of psychological health among schistosomiasis patients. METHODS Publications pertaining to comorbid depression and anxiety and psychological interventions among Chinese schistosomiasis patients were retrieved in electronic databases, including CNKI, Wanfang Data, PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase. The prevalence of comorbidity, psychological interventions, and scores for the Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) and Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) before and after psychological interventions among Chinese schistosomiasis patients were extracted. The prevalence of comorbid depression and anxiety was investigated among Chinese schistosomiasis patients using a meta-analysis, and the effect of psychological interventions for depression and anxiety was evaluated. RESULTS A total of 231 publications were retrieved, and 14 publications that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were included in the final analysis, including 2 English publications and 12 Chinese publications. Meta-analysis showed that the prevalence rates of comorbid depression and anxiety were 61% [95% confidential interval (CI): (48%, 72%)] and 64% [95% CI: (42%, 81%)] among Chinese schistosomiasis patients. Both the SDS [1.45 points, 95% CI: (1.30, 1.60) points] and SAS scores [2.21 points, 95% CI: (2.05, 2.38) points] reduced among Chinese schistosomiasis patients after psychological interventions than before psychological interventions, and the SDS [-0.47 points, 95% CI: (-6.90, -0.25) points] and SAS scores [-1.30 points, 95% CI: (-1.52, -1.09) points] reduced among Chinese schistosomiasis patients in the case group than in the control group. CONCLUSIONS The comorbid anxiety and depression are common among Chinese schistosomiasis patients, and conventional psychological interventions facilitate the improvements of anxiety and depression among schistosomiasis patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of Echinococcus multilocularis infection on Tim3 expression and its co-expression with immune checkpoint molecules 2B4 and LAG3 in spleen natural killer (NK) cells of mice. METHODS C57BL/6 mice, each weighing (20 ± 2) g, were randomly divided into a high-dose infection group (15 mice), a low-dose infection group (13 mice), and a control group (11 mice). Mice in the high- and low-dose infection groups were inoculated with 2 000 and 50 Echinococcus multilocularis protoscolices via the hepatic portal vein, while animals in the control group was injected with an equivalent amount of physiological saline via the hepatic portal vein. Mouse spleen cells were harvested 12 and 24 weeks post-infection, and Tim3 expression and its co-expression with 2B4 and LAG3 in NK cells were detected using flow cytometry. RESULTS There were significant differences in the proportions of Tim3 expression (F = 13.559, P < 0.001) and Tim3 and 2B4 co-expression (F = 12.465, P < 0.001) in mouse spleen NK cells among groups 12 weeks post-infection with E. multilocularis, and the proportion of Tim3 expression was significantly higher in mouse spleen NK cells in the low-dose infection group [(23.84 ± 2.28)%] than in the high-dose infection group [(15.72 ± 3.67)%] and the control group [(16.14 ± 3.83)%] (both P values < 0.01), while the proportion of Tim3 and 2B4 co-expression was significantly higher in mouse spleen NK cells in the low-dose infection group [(22.20 ± 2.13)%] than in the high-dose infection group [(14.17 ± 3.81)%] and the control group [(15.20 ± 3.77)%] (both P values < 0.01). There were significant differences in the proportions of Tim3 expression (F = 5.243, P < 0.05) and Tim3 and 2B4 co-expression (F = 4.659, P < 0.05) in mouse spleen NK cells among groups 24 weeks post-infection with E. multilocularis infection, and the proportions of Tim3 expression and Tim3 and 2B4 co-expression were significantly lower in mouse spleen NK cells in the high-dose infection group [(20.55 ± 7.04)% and (20.98 ± 7.12)%] than in the control group [(31.38 ± 3.19)% and (31.25 ± 3.06)%] (both P values < 0.05), and there were no significantly difference between the proportions of Tim3 expression and Tim3 and 2B4 co-expression in splenic NK cells in the low-dose infection group [(26.80 ± 6.47)% and (26.48 ± 6.48)%] and the control group (both P > 0.05). There were no significant differences in the proportions of Tim3 and LAG3 co-expression in mouse spleen NK cells among groups 12 (F = 2.283, P > 0.05) and 24 weeks post-infection (F = 0.375, P > 0.05). In the low-dose infection group, there were no significant differences in the proportions of Tim3 expression or Tim3 and 2B4 co-expression in mouse spleen NK cells 12 (t = -1.137, P > 0.05) or 24 weeks post-infection (t = -1.658, P > 0.05), and the proportion of Tim3 and LAG3 co-expression increased in mouse spleen NK cells 24 weeks post-infection relative to 12 weeks post-infection (t = -5.261, P < 0.01). In the highdose infection group, there was no significant difference in the proportion of Tim3 expression in mouse spleen NK cells 12 and 24 weeks post-infection (t = -1.546, P > 0.05); however, the proportions of Tim3 co-expression with 2B4 and LAG3 increased in mouse splenic NK cells 24 weeks post-infection relative to 12 weeks post-infection (t = -2.425 and -4.745, both P values < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The Tim3 expression and Tim3 co-expression with LAG3 and 2B4 on spleen NK cells is affected by doses of E. multilocularis infection and disease stages, and present different phenotypes during the course of alveolar echinococcosis. NK cells tend to form an immunosuppressive phenotype with the progression of E. multilocularis infection, which facilitates immune escape and chronic parasitism of E. multilocularis.

Objective: To investigate the consistency of skeletal muscle mass by CT at 1st lumbar vertebrae (L1) and 3rd lumbar vertebrae (L3) levels and the correlation of skeletal muscle density (SMD) at L1 level with prognosis in dialysis patients. Methods: A total of 1 020 patients who underwent initial dialysis and had CT examination data in four centers (Zhongda Hospital Affiliated to Southeast University, the Third Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University, Taizhou People's Hospital Affiliated to Nanjing Medical University and the Affiliated Hospital of Yangzhou University) from January 2014 to December 2019 were retrospectively collected. The skeletal muscle index (SMI) and SMD at L1 and L3 CT images were measured and calculated in patients with both L1 and L3 level CT images. The consistency of SMI and SMD at L1 and L3 levels was analyzed, and the cut-off value of SMI and SMD at L1 level for predicting all-cause mortality and their correlation with the prognosis of dialysis patients were studied. Cox regression model was used to analyze the risk factors for all-cause death and cardiac death. Results: A total of 383 patients had both L1 and L3 level images, including 233 males and 150 females. The average SMD value of 16 samples (4.2%) exceeded the 95% consistency limit range (-8.71 to 7.75 HU), and the average SMI value of 15 samples (3.9%) exceeded the 95% consistency limit range (-20.45 to 9.53 HU). The optimal cut-off value of SMD at L1 level for predicting all-cause mortality was 36.46 HU and the area under curve (AUC) of receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was 0.658 (95%CI: 0.596-0.721, P<0.001), with the sensitivity and specificity of 83.8% and 57.5%, respectively. SMI at L1 level was not significantly associated with all-cause mortality (P=0.299). Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that low SMD at L1 level was associated with all-cause mortality (HR=2.861, 95%CI: 1.576-5.193, P=0.001) and cardiac death (HR=3.771, 95%CI:1.462-9.724, P=0.006). Conclusions: SMD at L1 levelis consistent with SMD at L3 level and can be used to evaluate muscle mass. Low SMD is a risk factor for mortality in dialysis patients.

Abstract
We report on the first search for Λ[over ¯]-Λ oscillations in the decay J/ψ→pK^{-}Λ[over ¯]+c.c. by analyzing 1.31×10^{9} J/ψ events accumulated with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The J/ψ events are produced using e^{+}e^{-} collisions at a center of mass energy sqrt[s]=3.097 GeV. No evidence for hyperon oscillations is observed. The upper limit for the oscillation rate of Λ[over ¯] to Λ hyperons is determined to be P(Λ)=[B(J/ψ→pK^{-}Λ+c.c.)/B(J/ψ→pK^{-}Λ[over ¯]+c.c.)]<4.4×10^{-6} corresponding to an oscillation parameter δm_{ΛΛ[over ¯]} of less than 3.8×10^{-18} GeV at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract
The ratios of branching fractions R(D^{*})≡B(B[over ¯]→D^{*}τ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{τ})/B(B[over ¯]→D^{*}μ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{μ}) and R(D^{0})≡B(B^{-}→D^{0}τ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{τ})/B(B^{-}→D^{0}μ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{μ}) are measured, assuming isospin symmetry, using a sample of proton-proton collision data corresponding to 3.0 fb^{-1} of integrated luminosity recorded by the LHCb experiment during 2011 and 2012. The tau lepton is identified in the decay mode τ^{-}→μ^{-}ν_{τ}ν[over ¯]_{μ}. The measured values are R(D^{*})=0.281±0.018±0.024 and R(D^{0})=0.441±0.060±0.066, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The correlation between these measurements is ρ=-0.43. The results are consistent with the current average of these quantities and are at a combined 1.9 standard deviations from the predictions based on lepton flavor universality in the standard model.

Abstract
Objective: To understand the etiological characteristics of 2 serotypes of Salmonella strains isolated from a foodborne disease outbreak. Methods: A total of 11 anal swabs of the cases, 13 suspected contaminated food and 10 environmental samples were collected from a foodborne disease outbreak occurred on September 8, 2022 in a school. The anal swabs were enriched with selenite brilliant green enrichment broth (SBG) and brain heart infusion broth (BHI) respectively. PCR detection and culture of common intestinal pathogens were carried out. The suspected food samples were tested according to national standards for food safety. Multiple suspected Salmonella colonies were obtained and selected for serotype determination and whole genome sequencing. Serotypes were determined based on the whole-genome sequence, and clustering analysis was performed based on core genome single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP). Results: The positive rates of Salmonella in anal swabs and suspected food samples were 9/11 and 5/13 respectively. Both Salmonella Uganda and Salmonella Idikan were isolated from 4 anal swabs and 4 suspected food samples. For the remaining samples, only Salmonella Uganda or Salmonella Idikan was isolated in each sample. The positive rate of Salmonella in 11 anal swabs of the cases after BHI enrichment for 12 h and 24 h were all 9/11 in real-time PCR, same to the culture results. Salmonella Uganda and Salmonella Idikan formed two independent and genetically distant lineages in the clustering tree based on core genome SNP, and 0-14 and 0-23 SNP were observed in Salmonella Uganda and Salmonella Idikan respectively. Conclusions: This foodborne disease outbreak was probably caused by Salmonella Uganda and Salmonella Idikan, which both exhibited strong genetic diversity. The PCR based pathogen screening strategy plus pathogen enrichment for cases' annal swabs can be used in the routine outbreak investigation.

Abstract
The production of prompt D^{0} mesons in proton-lead collisions in both the forward and backward rapidity regions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of sqrt[s_{NN}]=8.16 TeV is measured by the LHCb experiment. The nuclear modification factor of prompt D^{0} mesons is determined as a function of the transverse momentum p_{T}, and the rapidity in the nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass frame y^{*}. In the forward rapidity region, significantly suppressed production with respect to pp collisions is measured, which provides significant constraints on models of nuclear parton distributions and hadron production down to the very low Bjorken-x region of ∼10^{-5}. In the backward rapidity region, a suppression with a significance of 2.0-3.8 standard deviations compared to parton distribution functions in a nuclear environment expectations is found in the kinematic region of p_{T}>6 GeV/c and -3.25

Abstract
It is well known that vitamin D is engaged in calcium and phosphorus metabolism. However, vitamin D also plays an important role in other aspects over the past decades, such as immune response. Vitamin D has thus aroused the interest of the scientific community, especially the field of dermatology. The major source of vitamin D comes from the exposure of the skin to ultraviolet B. In turn, vitamin D regulates the proliferation and differentiation of keratinocytes, prevents opportunistic infection, and regulates the inflammatory response and immune response of the skin. Acne, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, and other inflammatory skin diseases have been found to have a certain relationship with vitamin D. This article review the correlation between vitamin D and inflammatory skin diseases.

Measurement of the Time-Integrated CP Asymmetry in D^{0}→K^{-}K^{+} Decays. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2023; 131:091802. Abstract
The time-integrated CP asymmetry in the Cabibbo-suppressed decay D^{0}→K^{-}K^{+} is measured using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.7 fb^{-1} collected at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with the LHCb detector. The D^{0} mesons are required to originate from promptly produced D^{*+}→D^{0}π^{+} decays, and the charge of the companion pion is used to determine the flavor of the charm meson at production. The time-integrated CP asymmetry is measured to be A_{CP}(K^{-}K^{+})=[6.8±5.4±1.6]×10^{-4} where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The direct CP asymmetries in D^{0}→K^{-}K^{+} and D^{0}→π^{-}π^{+} decays, a_{K^{-}K^{+}}^{d} and a_{π^{-}π^{+}}^{d}, are derived by combining A_{CP}(K^{-}K^{+}) with the time-integrated CP asymmetry difference, ΔA_{CP}=A_{CP}(K^{-}K^{+})-A_{CP}(π^{-}π^{+}), and other inputs, giving a_{K^{-}K^{+}}^{d}=(7.7±5.7)×10^{-4},a_{π^{-}π^{+}}^{d}=(23.2±6.1)×10^{-4},with a correlation coefficient corresponding to ρ=0.88. The compatibility of these results with CP symmetry is 1.4 and 3.8 standard deviations for D^{0}→K^{-}K^{+} and D^{0}→π^{-}π^{+} decays, respectively. This is the first evidence for direct CP violation in a specific D^{0} decay.

Measurement of the Branching Fractions B(B^{0}→pp[over ¯]pp[over ¯]) and B(B_{s}^{0}→pp[over ¯]pp[over ¯]). PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2023; 131:091901. Abstract
Searches for the rare hadronic decays B^{0}→pp[over ¯]pp[over ¯] and B_{s}^{0}→pp[over ¯]pp[over ¯] are performed using proton-proton collision data recorded by the LHCb experiment and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb^{-1}. Significances of 9.3σ and 4.0σ, including statistical and systematic uncertainties, are obtained for the B^{0}→pp[over ¯]pp[over ¯] and B_{s}^{0}→pp[over ¯]pp[over ¯] signals, respectively. The branching fractions are measured relative to the topologically similar normalization decays B^{0}→J/ψ(→pp[over ¯])K^{*0}(→K^{+}π^{-}) and B_{s}^{0}→J/ψ(→pp[over ¯])ϕ(→K^{+}K^{-}). The branching fractions are measured to be B(B^{0}→pp[over ¯]pp[over ¯])=(2.2±0.4±0.1±0.1)×10^{-8} and B(B_{s}^{0}→pp[over ¯]pp[over ¯])=(2.3±1.0±0.2±0.1)×10^{-8}. In these measurements, the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third one is due to the external branching fraction of the normalization channel.

Observation of a Resonant Structure near the D_{s}^{+}D_{s}^{-} Threshold in the B^{+}→D_{s}^{+}D_{s}^{-}K^{+} Decay. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2023; 131:071901. Abstract
An amplitude analysis of the B^{+}→D_{s}^{+}D_{s}^{-}K^{+} decay is carried out to study for the first time its intermediate resonant contributions, using proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV. A near-threshold peaking structure, referred to as X(3960), is observed in the D_{s}^{+}D_{s}^{-} invariant-mass spectrum with significance greater than 12 standard deviations. The mass, width, and the quantum numbers of the structure are measured to be 3956±5±10 MeV, 43±13±8 MeV, and J^{PC}=0^{++}, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The properties of the new structure are consistent with recent theoretical predictions for a state composed of cc[over ¯]ss[over ¯] quarks. Evidence for an additional structure is found around 4140 MeV in the D_{s}^{+}D_{s}^{-} invariant mass, which might be caused either by a new resonance with the 0^{++} assignment or by a J/ψϕ↔D_{s}^{+}D_{s}^{-} coupled-channel effect.

Tp47-Induced Monocyte-Derived Microvesicles Promote the Adherence of THP-1 Cells to Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial Cells via an ERK1/2-NF-κB Signaling Cascade. Microbiol Spectr 2023; 11:e0188823. Abstract
The Treponema pallidum membrane protein Tp47 induces immunocyte adherence to vascular cells and contributes to vascular inflammation. However, it is unclear whether microvesicles are functional inflammatory mediators between vascular cells and immunocytes. Microvesicles that were isolated from Tp47-treated THP-1 cells using differential centrifugation were subjected to adherence assays to determine the adhesion-promoting effect on human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). Intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1) and vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 (VCAM-1) levels in Tp47-induced microvesicle (Tp47-microvesicle)-treated HUVECs were measured, and the related intracellular signaling pathways of Tp47-microvesicle-induced monocyte adhesion were investigated. Tp47-microvesicles promoted THP-1 cell adhesion to HUVECs (P < 0.01) and upregulated ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 expression in HUVECs (P < 0.001). The adhesion of THP-1 cells to HUVECs was inhibited by anti-ICAM-1 and anti-VCAM-1 neutralizing antibodies. Tp47-microvesicle treatment of HUVECs activated the extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 (ERK1/2) and NF-κB signaling pathways, whereas ERK1/2 and NF-κB inhibition suppressed the expression of ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 and significantly decreased the adhesion of THP-1 cells to HUVECs. IMPORTANCE Tp47-microvesicles promote the adhesion of THP-1 cells to HUVECs through the upregulation of ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 expression, which is mediated by the activation of the ERK1/2 and NF-κB pathways. These findings provide insight into the pathophysiology of syphilitic vascular inflammation.
