Abstract
The aim of this study is to evaluate the changes in soy isoflavones and peptides in soy milk after lactic acid bacterial fermentation, and explore the positive effects of fermented soy milk on an oxidative aging mouse model induced with D-galactose. We found that free soybean isoflavones and peptides increased after soy milk was fermented by Lactobacillus fermentum CQPC04. The in vivo results indicated that L. fermentum CQPC04-fermented soy milk enhanced the organ index of the liver and spleen, and improved the pathological morphology of the liver, spleen, and skin. L. fermentum CQPC04-fermented soy milk increased the enzymatic activity of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), total superoxide dismutase (T-SOD), and catalase (CAT), increased glutathione (GSH), but decreased the levels of nitric oxide (NO) and malondialdehyde (MDA) in serum, liver, and brain tissues of oxidative aging mice. The above mentioned fermented soy milk also increased the levels of collagen I (Col I), hyaluronic acid (HA), and collagen III (Col III), and decreased the levels of advanced glycation End products (AGEs) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The RT-qPCR results showed that L. fermentum CQPC04-fermented soy milk upregulated the mRNA expression of nuclear factor erythroid 2?related factor (Nrf2), heme oxygenase-1 (HMOX1), quinone oxido-reductase 1 (Nqo1), neuronal nitric oxide synthase (NOS1), endothelial nitric oxide synthase (NOS3), Cu/Zn–superoxide dismutase (Cu/Zn-SOD), Mn–superoxide dismutase (Mn-SOD), and CAT, but downregulated the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (NOS2) and glutamate cysteine ligase modifier subunit (Gclm) in liver and spleen tissues. Lastly, the fermented soy milk also increased the gene expression of Cu/Zn-SOD, Mn-SOD, CAT, GSH-Px, matrix metalloproteinases 1 (TIMP1), and matrix metalloproteinases 2 (TIMP2), and decreased the expression of matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP2) and matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP9) in skin tissue. In conclusion, L. fermentum CQPC04-fermented soy milk was able to satisfactorily delay oxidative aging effects, and its mechanism may be related to the increase in free soy isoflavones and peptides.

Abstract
Temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis (TMJOA) is one of the most common diseases causing chronic pain in the oral and maxillofacial region. So far, there are few ways to relieve the pain of TMJOA. Melatonin (MT) has a good analgesic effect in many diseases, including fibromyalgia, neuropathic pain, chronic headache, and burn pain, with very low acute toxicity and side effects. This study was to investigate the role and mechanism of MT in TMJOA chronic pain. In rats TMJOA chronic pain occurred at day 14 after an intra-temporomandibular joint injection of monosodium iodoacetate, which we previously reported. The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay results showed that MT levels were higher in the synovial fluid from patients and rats with TMJOA as compared with those from control. Fluorescent retrograde tracing (Dil) identified that upregulation of MT type 2 receptor (MT2R) in trigeminal ganglion (TG) neurons innervating rat temporomandibular joints was accompanied by TMJOA chronic pain. Nociceptive behavior as assessed by von Frey and the Rat Grimace Scale demonstrated that exogenous administration of MT relieved chronic pain in TMJOA rats, whereas blocking MT2R with 4P-PDOT reversed the analgesic effect of MT. Immunofluorescence analysis also confirmed that MT inhibited CGRP and IB4 expression of TG neurons, and this inhibition was reversed by administering the MT2R antagonist in TMJOA rats. By using Fluo-3 AM-based calcium imaging in vitro, MT elicited calcium transients in Dil+ TG neurons, which were significantly abolished by 4P-PDOT. Collectively, this study suggested that MT relieves the TMJOA chronic pain of rats through downregulation of sensitized CGRP+ and IB4+ neurons in TG via MT2R. This will be helpful for health care professionals utilizing MT as an option against TMJOA chronic pain.

Abstract
Lactobacillus plantarum is a bacterial strain that is used as a probiotic with health-promoting effects. Our study investigated the hepatoprotective effect of Lactobacillus plantarum HFY09 (LP-HFY09) in mice with ethanol-induced liver injury. The protection afforded by LP-HFY09 was evaluated by observing the morphology of hepatic tissue and measuring liver lipid indexes and function indexes, levels of anti-oxidative enzymes, and anti-inebriation enzymes, as well as oxidative metabolism-related gene expression. Gavage administration of LP-HFY09 [1 × 109 CFU/kg body weight (bw)] limited the loss of bw, alcohol damage to the liver, and maintained the normal hepatic tissue morphology. Lactobacillus plantarum HFY09 intervention in ethanol-induced mice led to decreases in serum triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), aspartic transaminase, alanine transaminase, hyaluronidase (HAase), and precollagen III (PC III), and increases in liver alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH), and acetaldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH). Lactobacillus plantarum HFY09 assisted with alleviating inflammation by elevating the level of interleukin 10 (IL-10) and decreasing the levels of pro-inflammatory factors [IL-6, IL-1β, and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF)-α]. Lactobacillus plantarum HFY09 significantly elevated hepatic levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione (GSH), and decreased liver malondialdehyde (MDA) from 3.45 to 1.64 nmol/mg protein. Lactobacillus plantarum HFY09 exhibited an overall strong regulatory effect on liver protection when compared to that of commercial Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus. The hepatoprotective effect of LP-HFY09 was reflected by the upregulated expression of peroxisome proliferator activated-receptors α, SOD1, SOD2, glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH), and catalase (CAT), and the downregulated expression of cyclooxygenase-1 (COX1), c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK), and extracellular regulated protein kinases (ERK). Administration of LP-HFY09 at a concentration of 1.0 × 109 CFU/kg bw could be a potential intervention, for people who frequently consume alcohol.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to analyze the non-volatile composition and antioxidant differences of lemon essential oils (LEOs) obtained by cold-pressing vs. hydrodistillation. Pathological observations showed that LEO effectively inhibited liver injury caused by oxidative stress, and CPLEO was more effective than HDLEO. CPLEO increased serum T-AOC, SOD, GSH, and GSH-Px levels while decreasing NO, COX-2, IL-6, IL-1β, IFN-γ, and TNF-α levels in mice with oxidative damage. The effects of CPLEO were stronger than those of HDLEO and similar to those of vitamin C. CPLEO upregulated mRNA and protein expressions of Cu/Zn-SOD, Mn-SOD, CAT, HO-1, Nrf2, and NQO1 while downregulating nNOS, iNOS, IL-1β, COX-2, TNF-α, and NF-κB mRNA expression and nNOS, eNOS, iNOS, and COX-2 protein expression in mice with oxidative damage. The results demonstrate that LEO has good antioxidant effects and that CPLEO has a better antioxidant effect than HDLEO as it retains more active non-volatile substances.

Abstract
Chinese Sichuan pickle is a fermented food rich in microorganisms. Microorganisms have the potential to become an important new form of potent future therapeutic capable of treating human disease. Selecting vitamin C as a positive control, a lactic acid bacteria (Lactobacillus plantarum CQPC02, LP-CQPC02) isolated from Sichuan pickle was given to mice over 4 weeks to investigate the effect of CQPC02 on fatigue levels and biochemical oxidation phenomena in exercise-exhausted Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) mice. The fatigue model was established by forced swimming of mice, the levels of hepatic glycogen, skeletal muscle glycogen, lactic acid, blood urea nitrogen and free fatty acid were measured by physicochemical methods, serum serum creatine kinase (CK), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were measured by kits, the histopathological changes in the livers of mice were observed by H&E slicing, and the mRNA changes in the livers and skeletal muscles were observed by quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). Both vitamin C and LP-CQPC02 increased swimming exhaustion time. The concentration of LP-CQPC02 and exhaustion time were positively correlated. LP-CQPC02 also increased liver glycogen, skeletal muscle glycogen and free fatty acid content in mice and reduced lactic acid and blood urea nitrogen content in a dose-dependent manner. As walnut albumin antioxidant peptide concentration increased, levels of mouse CK, AST, and AST gradually decreased. LP-CQPC02 increased SOD and CAT levels and decreased MDA levels in a dose-dependent fashion. LP-CQPC02 up-regulated expression of mRNA encoding copper/zinc-superoxide dismutase (Cu/Zn-SOD), manganese-superoxide dismutase (Mn-SOD), and CAT in swimming exhaustion mouse liver tissue. LP-CQPC02 also up-regulated alanine/serine/cysteine/threonine transporter 1 (ASCT1) expression while down-regulating syncytin-1, inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) expression in swimming exhaustion mouse skeletal muscle. Overall, LP-CQPC02 had a clear anti-fatigue and anti-oxidation effect. This suggests that LP-CQPC02 can be developed as a microbiological therapeutic agent.

Abstract
Aim The naturally fermented yak yogurt of pastoralists in the Tibetan Plateau, China, because of its unique geographical environment and the unique lifestyle of Tibetan pastoralists, is very different from other kinds of sour milk, and the microorganisms it contains are special. Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis HFY14 (LLSL-HFY14) is a new lactic acid bacterium isolated from naturally fermented yak yogurt. The purpose of this study was to study the inhibitory effect of the bacterium on constipation. Methods Constipation was induced in ICR mice with diphenoxylate, and the constipated mice were treated with LLSL-HFY14. The weight and feces of the mice were visually detected. Colonic tissues were observed on hematoxylin and eosin-stained sections. Serum indices were detected with kits. mRNA expression in the colon was determined by quantitative polymerase chain reaction assay. Results Constipation caused weight loss, the number of defecation granules, defecation weight, fecal water content decreased, and the first black stool excretion time increased. LLSL-HFY14 alleviated these symptoms, and the effects were similar to those of lactulose (drug). The pathological examination revealed that constipation caused pathological changes in the colon, and LLSL-HFY14 effectively alleviated the disease. LLSL-HFY14 increased serum levels of motilin, gastrin, endothelin, substance P, acetylcholinesterase, and vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) and decreased serum levels of somatostatin in constipated mice. In addition, LLSL-HFY14 upregulated VIP, cAMP, protein kinase A, and aquaporin 3 expression in colonic tissues of constipated mice in a dose-dependent manner. Conclusion LLSL-HFY14 inhibited constipation, similar to lactulose, and has the potential to become a biological agent.

Abstract
The relapse rate for children with acute myeloid leukemia is nearly 40% despite aggressive chemotherapy and often stem cell transplant. We sought to understand how environment-induced signaling responses are associated with clinical response to treatment. We previously reported that patients whose AML cells showed low G-CSF-induced STAT3 activation had inferior event-free survival compared to patients with stronger STAT3 responses. Here, we expanded the paradigm to evaluate multiple signaling parameters induced by a more physiological stimulus. We measured STAT3, STAT5 and ERK1/2 responses to G-CSF and to stromal cell-conditioned medium for 113 patients enrolled on COG trials AAML03P1 and AAML0531. Low inducible STAT3 activity was independently associated with inferior event-free survival in multivariate analyses. For inducible STAT5 activity, those with the lowest and highest responses had inferior event-free survival, compared to patients with intermediate STAT5 responses. Using existing RNA-sequencing data, we compared gene expression profiles for patients with low inducible STAT3/5 activation with those for patients with higher inducible STAT3/5 signaling. Genes encoding hematopoietic factors and mitochondrial respiratory chain subunits were overexpressed in the low STAT3/5 response groups, implicating inflammatory and metabolic pathways as potential mechanisms of chemotherapy resistance. We validated the prognostic relevance of individual genes from the low STAT3/5 response signature in a large independent cohort of pediatric AML patients. These findings provide novel insights into interactions between AML cells and the microenvironment that are associated with treatment failure and could be targeted for therapeutic interventions.

Abstract
Background RNA binding proteins (RBPs) play an important role in a variety of cancers. However, their mechanisms in cancer progression are still limited especially in colorectal adenocarcinoma (COAD). Integrated analysis of RBPs will provide a better understanding of disease genesis and new insights into COAD treatment. Methods The gene expression data and corresponding clinical information for COAD were downloaded from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Univariate Cox regression analysis was used to screen for RBPs associated with COAD recurrence, and multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression analyses were used to identify genes that were associated with COAD recurrence. A nomogram was constructed to predict the recurrence of COAD, and a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed to determine the accuracy of the prediction models. The Human Protein Atlas database was used in prediction models to confirm the expression of key genes in COAD patients. Results A total of 177 differentially expressed RBPs was obtained, comprising 123 upregulated and 54 downregulated. GO and KEGG enrichment analysis showed that the differentially expressed RBPs were mainly related to mRNA metabolism, RNA processing and translation regulation. Seven RBP genes (TDRD6, POP1, TDRD7, PPARGC1A, LIN28B, LRRFIP2 and PNLDC1) were identified as prognosis-associated genes and were used to construct the prognostic model. Conclusions We constructed a COAD prognostic model through bioinformatics analysis and the nomogram can effectively predict the 1-year, 2-year, and 3-year survival rate for COAD patients.

Abstract
Aim Gastric mucosal injury is a typical characteristic of gastric diseases. The prevalence of gastric mucosal injury caused by alcohol has been on the rise, which has been considered a serious problem. The purpose of this study is to explore the protective effect on gastric injury of Lactobacillus plantarum ZS62 (LP-ZS62) isolated from naturally fermented yak yoghurt. Methods We established a gastric injury model through alcohol and evaluated the protective effect of LP-ZS62 on gastric injury in mice. The injury to the gastric mucosa, histopathological sections, related biochemical indicators, and related genes were examined to evaluate the protective effect of LP-ZS62. Results LP-ZS62 effectively alleviated alcohol-induced gastric injury according to visual observations of gastric tissue and pathological tissue sections. The experimental results revealed that LP-ZS62 decreased malondialdehyde (MDA) level, and elevated superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione (GSH) levels in gastric tissues. Additionally, LP-ZS62 increased glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), and somatostatin (SS) levels. LP-ZS62 also decreased inflammatory cytokines interleukin (IL)-1β, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and IL-6 levels, and increased the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10 level. The quantitative polymerase chain reaction results showed that LP-ZS62 upregulated mRNA expression of nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), copper/zinc superoxide dismutase (SOD1), manganese superoxide dismutase (SOD2), catalase (CAT), gamma-glutamylcysteine synthetase (GSH1), and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px). Conclusion This study confirmed that LP-ZS62 alleviated alcohol-induced gastric injury by regulating antioxidant capacity. Therefore, LP-ZS62 could be developed as a probiotic product to treat alcoholic gastric injury.

Abstract
In this study, lactic acid bacterium, Lactobacillus plantarum KFY04, was isolated from Xinjiang yogurt, and it was used to intervene in obese mice maintained on a 45% fat diet, and we compared its effects to those of a commercial strain, LDSB, and l-carnitine. The results showed that the LP-KFY04 intervention mice gained weight more slowly and had lower liver, epididymal adipose, and perirenal adipose tissue indices when compared to the other high-fat groups. Moreover, the LP-KFY04 can reduce the formation of fat vacuoles in the liver, while also reducing adipocyte differentiation and volume, and LP-KFY04 groups had the lowest liver and serum AST, ALT, TG, and TC levels and lowest serum LDL-C and highest HDL-C levels among the groups maintained on a high-fat diet. LP-KFY04 was also shown to mitigate obesity-associated oxidative damage and inflammatory responses. Additionally, quantitative real-time PCR and western blot analysis examining liver and adipose tissue expression of PPAR-α, CYP7A1, CPT1, and LPL showed an increased expression in the LP-KFY04 groups while decreased expression levels of PPAR-γ and C/EBPα relative to the other high-fat diet groups. These results show that of the different interventions, LP-KFY04 was the most effective at mitigating the effects of obesity than LDSB and l-carnitine. The results confirmed that LP-KEY04 has better anti-obesity, anti-oxidative, and anti-inflammatory effects than current fermentation strains. It indicates LP-KFY04 is a fermentation strain with potential practical value and high functionality, and it shows that a fermentation strain should not only have good fermentation performance, but, more importantly, it must provide more functionality on the basis of fermentation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND COVID-19 is a new pneumonia. It has been hypothesized that tobacco smoking history may increase severity of this disease in the patients once infected by the underlying coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 because smoking and COVID-19 both cause lung damage. However, this hypothesis has not been tested. OBJECTIVE Current study was designed to focus on smoking history in patients with COVID-19 and test this hypothesis that tobacco smoking history increases risk for severe COVID-19 by damaging the lungs. METHODS AND RESULTS This was a single-site, retrospective case series study of clinical associations, between epidemiological findings and clinical manifestations, radiographical or laboratory results. In our well-characterized cohort of 954 patients including 56 with tobacco smoking history, smoking history increased the risk for severe COVID-19 with an odds ratio (OR) of 5.5 (95% CI: 3.1-9.9; P = 7.3 × 10-8 ). Meta-analysis of ten cohorts for 2891 patients together obtained an OR of 2.5 (95% CI: 1.9-3.3; P < 0.00001). Semi-quantitative analysis of lung images for each of five lobes revealed a significant difference in neither lung damage at first examination nor dynamics of the lung damage at different time-points of examinations between the smoking and nonsmoking groups. No significant differences were found either in laboratory results including D-dimer and C-reactive protein levels except different covariances for density of the immune cells lymphocyte (P = 3.8 × 10-64 ) and neutrophil (P = 3.9 × 10-46 ). CONCLUSION Tobacco smoking history increases the risk for great severity of COVID-19 but this risk is achieved unlikely by affecting the lungs.

Abstract
STUDY OBJECTIVES Unobtrusive monitoring of sleep and sleep disorders in children presents challenges. We investigated the possibility of using Ultra-Wide band (UWB) radar to measure sleep in children. METHODS Thirty-two children scheduled to undergo a clinical polysomnography participated; their ages ranged from 2 months to 14 years. During the polysomnography, the children's body movements and breathing rate were measured by an UWB-radar. A total of 38 features were calculated from the motion signals and breathing rate obtained from the raw radar signals. Adaptive boosting was used as machine learning classifier to estimate sleep stages, with polysomnography as gold standard method for comparison. RESULTS Data of all participants combined, this study achieved a Cohen's Kappa coefficient of 0.67 and an overall accuracy of 89.8% for wake and sleep classification, a Kappa of 0.47 and an accuracy of 72.9% for wake, rapid-eye-movement (REM) sleep, and non-REM sleep classification, and a Kappa of 0.43 and an accuracy of 58.0% for wake, REM sleep, light sleep and deep sleep classification. CONCLUSION Although the current performance is not sufficient for clinical use yet, UWB radar is a promising method for non-contact sleep analysis in children.

Abstract
The protective effect of Lactobacillus plantarum YS3 (LP-YS3) on ulcerative colitis (UC) was assessed using a mouse model of dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced colitis. Different concentrations of LP-YS4 were administered to the experimental mice by daily gavage. Several inflammatory and biochemical indices, such as interleukin-2 (IL-2), interleukin-10 (IL-10), interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), glutathione (GSH), malondialdehyde (MDA), myeloperoxidase (MPO), and nitric oxide (NO), were examined in mouse serum and colon tissue. The mRNA and protein expression levels of c-Kit, CXC chemokine receptor type 2 (CXCR2), interleukin-8 (IL-8), and stem cell factor (SCF) in mouse colon tissue were assessed using Western blot and quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) assays. The findings indicated that LP-YS3 remarkably decreased the disease activity index (DAI) of UC mice (p < .05), inhibited colon length shortening induced by UC, and elevated the value of colon weight/length ratio. LP-YS3 could also markedly reduce (p < .05) the activities of MDA, MPO, and NO; while an increase in the GSH content in the colonic tissue of UC mice. Moreover, LP-YS3 remarkably increased (p < .05) the serum level of IL-2 in UC mice, while reduced those of IL-10, IL-6, IL-1β, TNF-α cytokines. qPCR data revealed that LP-YS3 could markedly upregulate the expression levels of c-Kit and SCF, while downregulate those of CXCR2 and IL-8 in the colonic tissue of UC mice (p < .05). LP-YS3 exerted an outstanding protective effect on DSS-induced colitis in C57BL/6J mice, especially at higher concentrations. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS: Lactobacillus plantarum YS3 is a newly isolated and identified lactic acid bacteria. This study confirmed that L. plantarum YS3 can inhibit colitis and has good probiotic potential, which needs further development and utilization.

Abstract
Ilex kudingcha C.J. Tseng tea and insect tea, as traditional Chinese teas, are favored for their original craftsmanship, unique flavor, and biological functionality. In this study, ultra high-performance liquid chromatography-triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (UHPLC-QqQ-MS) was used to analyze the bioactive components of the extracts of Ilex kudingcha and insect tea, and D-galactose-induced aging mice were used to compare the in vivo anti-aging effects of Ilex kudingcha and insect tea extracts. The results were remarkable, UHPLC-QqQ-MS analysis showed that ITP contains 29 ingredients, while IKDCP contains 26 ingredients. However, due to the large differences in the content of the main chemical components in IKDCP and ITP, the effects are equally different. At the same time, the in vivo research results suggesting that the anti-aging effects of IKDCP and ITP (500 mg/kg) include the regulation of viscera indices of major organs; improvement in liver, skin, and spleen tissue morphology; decreased production of inflammatory cytokines; up regulation of SOD, CAT, GSH, GSH-PX, and T-AOC and down regulation of NO and MDA levels in serum and liver tissue; reductions in the concentration of pro-inflammatory factors, and increases in the concentration of anti-inflammatory factor. RT-qPCR and western blot assay also showed that IKDCP and ITP affect anti-aging by regulating the gene and protein expression of GSH-PX, GSH1, SOD1, SOD2, and CAT. The overall results indicate that ITP is more effective in treating oxidative damage in aging mice induced by D-galactose. Thus, ITP appears to be an effective functional drink owing to its rich nutritional components and anti-aging activities.

Abstract
In this experiment, Lactobacillus fermentum CQPC08 (LF-CQPC08) isolated from traditionally fermented pickles was used to study its mitigation effect on lead acetate-induced oxidative stress and lead ion adsorption capacity in rats. In vitro experiments showed that the survival rate in artificial gastric juice and the growth efficiency in artificial bile salt of LF-CQPC08 was 93.6% ± 2.2% and 77.2% ± 0.8%, and the surface hydrophobicity rate was 45.5% ± 0.3%. The scavenging rates of hydroxyl radical, superoxide anion, and 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) were 47.8% ± 0.9%, 63.9% ± 1.2%, and 83.6% ± 1.5%, respectively, and the reduction power was 107.3 ± 2.8 μmol L-1. LF-CQPC08 could not only adsorb 76.9% ± 1.0% lead ions in aqueous solution but also reduce the lead content in serum, liver, kidneys, and brain tissue of Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats, as well as maintain the cell structure and tissue state of the liver and kidneys. In addition, by examining the indicators of inflammation and oxidation in the serum, liver, and kidneys of SD rats, we found that LF-CQPC08 can reduce the proinflammatory factors interleukin (IL)-1 beta (1β), IL-6, tumor necrosis factor alpha, and interferon gamma in the body, increase the level of anti-inflammatory factor IL-10, enhance the activity of antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase and catalase and glutathione levels in serum and organ tissues, and reduce the production of reactive oxygen species and accumulation of lipid peroxide malondialdehyde. LF-CQPC08 can also activate the Keap1/Nrf2/ARE signaling pathway to promote high-level expression of the downstream antioxidants heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1), NAD(P)H : quinone oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1), and γ-glutamylcysteine synthetase (γ-GCS). As food-grade lactic acid bacteria, LF-CQPC08 has great potential and research value in removing heavy metals from food and alleviating the toxicity of heavy metals in the future.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The maturation of neural network-based techniques in combination with the availability of large sleep datasets has increased the interest in alternative methods of sleep monitoring. For unobtrusive sleep staging, the most promising algorithms are based on heart rate variability computed from inter-beat intervals (IBIs) derived from ECG-data. The practical application of these algorithms is even more promising when alternative ways of obtaining IBIs, such as wrist-worn photoplethysmography (PPG) can be used. However, studies validating sleep staging algorithms directly on PPG-based data are limited. RESULTS We applied an automatic sleep staging algorithm trained and validated on ECG-data directly on inter-beat intervals derived from a wrist-worn PPG sensor, in 389 polysomnographic recordings of patients with a variety of sleep disorders. While the algorithm reached moderate agreement with gold standard polysomnography, the performance was significantly lower when applied on PPG- versus ECG-derived heart rate variability data (kappa 0.56 versus 0.60, p < 0.001; accuracy 73.0% versus 75.9% p < 0.001). These results show that direct application of an algorithm on a different source of data may negatively affect performance. Algorithms need to be validated using each data source and re-training should be considered whenever possible.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the MRI and cone beam CT (CBCT) image registration methods of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), and to explore the clinical application of the registered images and clinical diagnostic data for examining the relationship between the articular disc and condyle. Methods: Three patients with TMJ disc disposition were recruited at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, School of Stomatology, Wuhan University from January to March 2018. One patient was male, aged 30, and the others were females, aged 21 and 26 respectively. Three-dimensional (3D) images of CBCT and MRI of the TMJ were reconstructed and registered by using Mimics software. The images were then evaluated after the registration. The evaluation indicators selected were the area and volume of the articular disc, the position of the articular disc or the distance between the highest point of the condyle (point C) to the center point of the articular disc (point D), the distance between the last point of the joint disc (point P) to point C, as well as the angle between line CD and FH plane (∠DCF) at either opened- or closed-mouth condition. Results: The registration images of TMJ, at the closed- and opened-mouth positions of the 3 patients, showed the anatomical structures and interrelationships of the articular disc, articular nodules, joint fossa and condyle. Combined with clinical diagnosis, the difference of CD distances at the normal articular disc position was the minimum (1.94 mm), the difference of CD distances was small at the anterior disc displacement with non-reduction and larger with reduction. When the joint disc was in the opened-mouth position, ∠DCF angle was minimal (3.81°). The patients with anterior disc displacement with non-reduction showed the largest ∠DCF angle (48.03°). Conclusions: The position of the articular disc relative to the condyle and articular nodules, either at closed- or opened-mouth conditionds, could be accurately displayed after the image registration and fusion. The registration image not only could fully show the shape and position of the articular disc in different status from a 3D perspective, but also might provide basis for clinical study of TMJ disc displacement.

Abstract
Jangkanghwan (JKH) can delay weight loss in mice, promote weight gain during recovery, and reduce colonic shortening and colon weight. In addition, the murine disease activity index was controlled after treatment using JKH. It can reduce the content of pro-inflammatory factors in serum and expression in tissues, such as interleukin (IL)-6, IL-1β, tumor necrosis factor-α, interferon-γ, cyclooxygenase-2, and nuclear factor kappa-B; in contrast, the content and expression of IL-10 and the inhibitor of nuclear factor kappa-B kinase-α in the serum and tissues were increased. The mRNA expression of the colitis characteristic biomarker monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 and macrophage inflammatory protein-3α were reduced in colon tissues. Using next-generation sequencing technology, the Bacteroidetes phylum in the JKH group decreased, while the Firmicutes phylum increased, and the number of beneficial bacteria-Bifidobacteriaceae, Lactobacillaceae, and Akkermansiaceae-increased. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS: JKH is a mixture of colonic healthy foods composed of Atractylodes macrocephala koidzumi, radish leaves, Viscum album var. coloratum, dried Zingiber officinale Roscoe, etc. According to UPLC-Q-TOF MS analysis, JKH consists mainly of 17 active substances, such as pheophorbide A, nabumetone alcohol, dehydrocostus lactone, plantamajoside, kaempferol 3, 7-dirhamnoside, quercetin 3-D-glucuronide, and viscumneoside III. We investigated the preventive effects of JKH on dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced ulcerative colitis in a murine model and found that JKH can reduce the damage in mice caused by DSS treatment.

Abstract
Our purpose was to measure the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) synovial fluid (SF) levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and fibroblast growth factor-2 (FGF-2) before and after intra-articular injection of hyaluronic acid (HA) and to investigate the possible mechanism involved in the therapeutic value of HA. We analysed the synovial fluid of 30 patients with unilateral internal derangement (ID) or osteoarthritis (OA) of the TMJ (confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging and cone-beam computed tomography) and recorded clinical signs and symptoms including maximal mouth opening, subjective joint pain, and joint noise at the patient's each visit. All clinical signs significantly improved after injection of HA, and there was no significant difference between ID and OA groups. In synovial fluid parameters, the concentration of VEGF was significantly higher before treatment with HA than after treatment, but there was no significant difference in the concentration of FGF-2 between before and after treatment. The study findings suggest intra-articular injection of HA may reduce the synovitis and improve the internal state of the TMJ in a short period.

Abstract
Vibration exercise (VE) has been suggested for effective muscle training and conditioning. Surface electromyogram (EMG) is employed as a powerful tool for the analysis of VE. However, sharp peaks are observed in the EMG spectrum. The interpretation of these peaks is controversial, complicating the extraction of EMG parameters for VE analysis. The present study is therefore aiming at quantifying the relevance of these spectral peaks in EMG recording during VE. To this end, surface EMG was recorded on the biceps brachii during VE at different amplitudes and frequencies. The power percentage contained in the two narrow bands (±0.5 Hz) around the vibration frequency and its first harmonic (PPv) was calculated. The root mean square (RMS) value of the EMG was calculated with and without including the spectral peaks and then compared. The results show an average PPv value of 20.7 ± 7.9 % and a relative RMS difference (∆RMS) of 12.2 ± 3.8 %. In PPv and addition, RMS∆ seem to be influenced by vibration amplitude and frequency. Our results provide useful information for the analysis of VE and contribute to better understanding of the EMG spectral peaks.

Abstract
Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is one of the main factors that cause gastric lesions. The lotus leaf is an edible plant used in traditional Eastern medicine. This study evaluates the intervention effects of lotus leaf flavonoids (LLF) on gastric mucosal lesions in mice infected with H. pylori and explores their mechanism of action. High-performance liquid chromatography analysis reveals that LLF contain kaempferitrin (kaempferol-3,7-dirhamnoside), hypericin, astragalin (kaempferol-3-glucoside), phlorizin, and quercetin. LLF can reduce the number of gastric mucosal lesions and tissue lesions in mice with H. pylori-induced gastric lesions. LLF can increase the levels of somatostatin and vasoactive intestinal peptide in the serum of mice with gastric lesions and decrease the levels of substance P and endothelin-1 to inhibit gastric lesions. LLF can also reduce the levels of interleukin (IL)-6, IL-12, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, and interferon-gamma cytokines in the serum of mice with gastric lesions. Using a quantitative polymerase chain reaction assay it can be seen that LLF can downregulate mRNA expressions of TNF-α, IL-1β, myeloperoxidase, keratin (KRT) 16, KRT6b, and transglutaminase 3 epidermal in the gastric tissues of mice with gastric lesions. Western blot analysis indicates that LLF can downregulate the protein expressions of caspase-1, Nod-like receptor protein 3, IL-1β, TNF-α, and Toll-like receptor 4 in the gastric tissues of mice with gastric lesions. LLF have beneficial effects on gastric lesions induced by H. pylori. Meanwhile LLF is more active in competition with ranitidine. LLF represent an active substance that can inhibit H. pylori-induced gastric lesions. The flavones of LLF may enhance the inhibition of gastric mucosal lesions by promoting the interaction between the compounds.

Abstract
The Malus pumila leaves are used as a kind of tea drink in China, and there are abundant flavonoids in the leaves of Malus pumila. In this study, BALB/c mice received senna extract solution via gavage, which induced acute diarrhea, and the interventive effect of Malus pumila leaf flavonoids (MPLF) was observed. The results showed that MPLF decreased the diarrhea index, and MPLF also decreased the capillary permeability in the abdominal cavity of mice. The result of serum cytokine detection indicated that MPLF decreased the levels of inflammatory cytokines, including interleukin 6 (IL-6), interleukin 12 (IL-12), and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α). The results of quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) indicated that diarrhea decreased the mRNA and protein expression of aquaporin-3 (AQP3) in the jejunum and aquaporin-4 (AQP4) in the ileum, which were inhibited by MPLF. By high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), MPLF mainly contains 10 flavonoids, which are rutin, hyperoside, isoquercitrin, taxifolin, quercitrin, hesperidin, myricetin, baicalin, neohesperidin dihydrochalcone and quercetin, the synergistic effect of these components plays an antidiarrhea role in MPLF. Therefore, MPLF achieved good antidiarrheal effect, which was better than that of the commonly used montmorillonite powder at the same concentration. MPLF is a natural raw material for functional food with an antidiarrheal effect.
