Hydrogen-Induced Ultralow Optical Absorption and Mechanical Loss in Amorphous Silicon for Gravitational-Wave Detectors. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2023; 131:256902. Abstract
The sensitivity of gravitational-wave detectors is limited by the mechanical loss associated with the amorphous coatings of the detectors' mirrors. Amorphous silicon has higher refraction index and lower mechanical loss than current high-index coatings, but its optical absorption at the wavelength used for the detectors is at present large. The addition of hydrogen to the amorphous silicon network reduces both optical absorption and mechanical loss for films prepared under a range of conditions at all measured wavelengths and temperatures, with a particularly large effect on films grown at room temperature. The uptake of hydrogen is greatest in the films grown at room temperature, but still below 1.5 at.% H, which show an ultralow optical absorption (below 10 ppm) measured at 2000 nm for 500-nm-thick films. These results show that hydrogenation is a promising strategy to reduce both optical absorption and mechanical loss in amorphous silicon, and may enable fabrication of mirror coatings for gravitational-wave detectors with improved sensitivity.

Abstract
A search for events with a dark photon produced in association with a dark Higgs boson via rare decays of the standard model Z boson is presented, using 139 fb^{-1} of sqrt[s]=13 TeV proton-proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The dark boson decays into a pair of dark photons, and at least two of the three dark photons must each decay into a pair of electrons or muons, resulting in at least two same-flavor opposite-charge lepton pairs in the final state. The data are found to be consistent with the background prediction, and upper limits are set on the dark photon's coupling to the dark Higgs boson times the kinetic mixing between the standard model photon and the dark photon, α_{D}ϵ^{2}, in the dark photon mass range of [5, 40] GeV except for the ϒ mass window [8.8, 11.1] GeV. This search explores new parameter space not previously excluded by other experiments.

Maternal and pregnancy predictive risk factors for having a compensated maternal injury claim: a Swedish nationwide cohort study. Sci Rep 2023; 13:21731. [PMID: 38066197 PMCID: PMC10709443 DOI: 10.1038/s41598-023-49234-7] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Grants] [Track Full Text] [Figures] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 07/12/2023] [Accepted: 12/06/2023] [Indexed: 12/18/2023] Open
Abstract
To describe trends and identify maternal and pregnancy predictive risk factors for having a compensated claim for a maternal injury during delivery, as a proxy for having received suboptimal care. This nationwide retrospective cohort study included 1 754 869 births in Sweden between 2000 and 2016, including 4488 maternal injury claims filed with The National Swedish Patient Insurance Company (Löf), of which 1637 were compensated. Descriptive statistics on maternal and pregnancy characteristics, trends in filed/compensated claims over time, and distribution of compensated claims by clinical classification are presented. Characteristics associated with suboptimal care were identified using multivariable logistic regression, with mutual adjustment in the final model. Compensated claims were sorted into 14 clinical classifications (ICD-10 codes for main condition, injury, and causality). Overall, there was a two-fold increase in filed claims from 2000 to 2016, peaking in 2014. The rate of compensated claims only increased marginally, and 36.5% of filed claims were deemed avoidable. Perineal and pelvic floor injuries, as well as medical and diagnostic errors, were responsible for the majority of compensated claims. Women with a previous caesarean section, post term delivery, chronic or gestational disease, > 13 antenatal visits, or a multiple pregnancy had increased risk of having a compensated claim for a maternal injury during delivery. Understanding the risk factors for having a compensated maternal injury claim may guide health workers and maternity wards in improving the quality and organisation of care to reduce the risk of childbirth related injuries.

Abstract
It is of great importance to uncover causal biomarkers to gain insight into the pathogenesis of oral diseases and identify novel treatment targets for prevention and treatment thereof. This study aimed to systematically evaluate the causal effects of hundreds of metabolites on 10 dental traits using a 2-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) approach. Genetic variants from genome-wide association studies of 309 known metabolites were used as instrumental variables. We selected 10 dental traits, including clinical measures of dental diseases, from the Gene-Lifestyle Interactions in Dental Endpoints Consortium and self-reported oral health data from the UK Biobank. The causal relationships between metabolites and dental traits were inferred using the inverse variance-weighted approach and further controlled for horizontal pleiotropy using 5 additional MR methods. After correcting for multiple tests, 5 metabolites were identified as causal biomarkers. Genetically predicted increased levels of mannose were associated with lower risk of bleeding gums (odds ratio [OR] = 0.72; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.61-0.85; P = 9.9 × 10-5). MR also indicated 4 metabolites on the causal pathway to dentures, with fructose (OR = 0.50; 95% CI, 0.36-0.70; P = 5.2 × 10-5) and 1-palmitoleoyl-glycerophosphocholine (OR = 0.67; 95% CI, 0.56-0.81; P = 4.8 × 10-5) as potential protective factors and glycine (OR = 1.22; 95% CI, 1.11-1.35; P = 5.6×10-5) and 1,5-anhydroglucitol (OR = 1.32; 95% CI, 1.14-1.52; P = 1.5 × 10-4) as risk factors. The causal associations were robust in various sensitivity analyses. We further observed some shared metabolites among different dental traits, implying similar biological mechanisms underlying the pathogenic processes. Finally, the pathway analysis revealed several significant metabolic pathways that may be involved in the development of dental disorders. Our study provides novel insights into the combination of metabolomics and genomics to reveal the pathogenesis of and therapeutic strategies for dental disorders. It highlighted 5 metabolites and several pathways as causal candidates, warranting further investigation.

Expression of 20 SCPP genes during tooth and bone mineralization in Senegal bichir. Dev Genes Evol 2023; 233:91-106. Abstract
The African bichir (Polypterus senegalus) is a living representative of Polypteriformes. P. senegalus possesses teeth composed of dentin covered by an enameloid cap and a layer of collar enamel on the tooth shaft, as in lepisosteids. A thin layer of enamel matrix can also be found covering the cap enameloid after its maturation and during the collar enamel formation. Teleosts fish do not possess enamel; teeth are protected by cap and collar enameloid, and inversely in sarcopterygians, where teeth are only covered by enamel, with the exception of the cap enameloid in teeth of larval urodeles. The presence of enameloid and enamel in the teeth of the same organism is an opportunity to solve the evolutionary history of the presence of enamel/enameloid in basal actinopterygians. In silico analyses of the jaw transcriptome of a juvenile bichir provided twenty SCPP transcripts. They included enamel, dentin, and bone-specific SCPPs known in sarcopterygians and several actinopterygian-specific SCPPs. The expression of these 20 genes was investigated by in situ hybridizations on jaw sections during tooth and dentary bone formation. A spatiotemporal expression patterns were established and compared with previous studies of SCPP gene expression during enamel/enameloid and bone formation. Similarities and differences were highlighted, and several SCPP transcripts were found specifically expressed during tooth or bone formation suggesting either conserved or new functions of these SCPPs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Nine surgical site infections caused by Serratia marcescens were diagnosed in neurosurgical patients in a 3500-bed hospital between 2nd February and 6th April 2022. OBJECTIVE To trace the source of infections caused by S. marcescens to expedite termination of the outbreak and prevent future epidemics. METHODS A review of all surgical procedures and cultures yielding S. marcescens since February 2022 was conducted. Samples were collected from patients and environmental sources. S. marcescens isolates were characterized by antibiotic susceptibility testing. Whole-genome sequencing (WGS) was used to investigate genetic relationships. Resistance genes, virulence genes and plasmid replicons were identified. RESULTS S. marcescens was isolated from patients' puncture fluid, cerebrospinal fluid and other secretions, and was also cultured from the barbers' haircutting tools, including leather knives, slicker scrapers and razors. In total, 15 isolates were obtained from patients and eight isolates were obtained from haircutting tools. All isolates exhibited identical antibiotic resistance patterns. WGS revealed close clustering among the 23 isolates which differed significantly from previous strains. Three resistance genes and nine virulence-associated genes were detected in all isolates, and 19 of 23 isolates harboured an MOBP-type plasmid. The results confirmed an outbreak of S. marcescens, which was traced to contaminated haircutting tools in the hospital barber shop. The outbreak ended after extensive reinforcement of infection control procedures and re-education of the barbers. CONCLUSIONS These results highlight the risk of postoperative infections related to pre-operative skin preparation, and demonstrate the value of next-generation sequencing tools to expedite outbreak investigations.

Prognostic value of plaque volume combined with CT fractional flow reserve in patients with suspected coronary artery disease. Clin Radiol 2023; 78:e1048-e1056. [PMID: 37788967 DOI: 10.1016/j.crad.2023.08.024] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [MESH Headings] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 01/17/2023] [Revised: 08/08/2023] [Accepted: 08/30/2023] [Indexed: 10/05/2023]
Abstract
AIM To investigate the prognostic value of quantitative plaque volume on coronary computed tomography (CT) angiography (CTA) combined with CT fractional flow reserve (CT-FFR) for major adverse cardiac events (MACE) in suspected coronary artery disease (CAD) patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS Patients who underwent coronary CTA with clinically suspected CAD were enrolled retrospectively in this study. Patients' baseline, Framingham Risk Score (FRS), coronary CTA plaque assessment, and CT-FFR were analysed retrospectively. Study outcomes included rehospitalisation and MACE (ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction, unstable angina, or non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction, revascularisation, and cardiac death). RESULTS There were 251 patients in the study, with a follow-up period of 1-6.58 years. Mean age was 61.16 ± 10.45 years and 146 (58%) patients were male. Higher CT-adapted Leaman score and quantitative plaque volume were found in patients with FRS >0.2 regardless of categorical or continuous variables. Coronary scores, quantitative plaque parameters, and CT-FFR were associated with MACE and rehospitalisation in univariate analysis. In model 1, CT-FFR was associated with MACE in multivariate Cox analysis when adjusted for FRS and CT-adapted Leaman score. Quantitative plaque parameters including calcified plaque volume, fibro-fatty plaque volume, low-attenuation plaque volume, non-calcified plaque volume, and total plaque volume were significantly associated with MACE and improved overall prognostic performance in a model adjusted for CT-FFR. CONCLUSION Additional quantitative plaque volume and CT-FFR further improve the predictive incremental value based on risk factor scores for prognostic prediction in patients. Adding quantitative plaque volume combined with CT-FFR analysis to anatomical and clinical assessment will be further beneficial to predict patients' prognosis of MACE.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To establish a surveillance and early warning index system for schistosomiasis transmission risk along the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River basin, so as to provide insights into creation of a sensitive and highly efficient surveillance and early warning system for schistosomiasis. METHODS National and international publications, documents, laws and regulations pertaining to schistosomiasis control were retrieved with keywords including schistosomiasis, surveillance, early warning and control interventions from 2008 to 2022, and a thematic panel discussion was held to preliminarily construct surveillance and early warning index system for schistosomiasis transmission risk along the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River basin. The index system was then comprehensively scored and screened using the Delphi method, and the weight of each index was determined using analytic hierarchy process and the modified proportional allocation method. In addition, the credibility of the Delphi method was evaluated using positive coefficient, authority coefficient, degree of concentration and degree of coordination of experts. RESULTS Following two rounds of expert consultation, a surveillance and early warning index system for schistosomiasis transmission risk in endemic areas along the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River basin was preliminarily constructed, including 3 primary indicators, 9 secondary indicators and 41 tertiary indicators. The normalized weights of primary indicators epidemics, natural and social factors and comprehensive control were 0.639 8, 0.145 6 and 0.214 6, respectively, and among all secondary indicators, snail status (0.321 3) and schistosomiasis prevalence (0.318 5) had the highest combined weights, while social factors had the lowest combined weight (0.030 4). Of all tertiary indicators, human egg-positive rate (0.041 9), number of acute schistosomiasis cases (0.041 5), number of stool-positive bovine and sheep (0.041 1), and prevalence of Schistosoma japonicum in free-ranging livestock (0.041 1) had the highest combined weights. During two rounds of consultation, the positive coefficient of experts was both 100%, and the authority coefficient was both 0.9 and greater, while the coordination coefficients were 0.338 to 0.441 and 0.426 to 0.565 (χ2 = 22.875 to 216.524, both P values < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The established surveillance and early warning index system for schistosomiasis transmission risk along the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River basin is of great scientific values and authority, which may provide insights into construction of the sensitive and highly efficient surveillance and early warning system for schistosomiasis in the context of low prevalence and low intensity of infection in China.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the prevalence and subtype distribution of Blastocystis sp. in pigs in Anhui Province. METHODS A total of 500 stool samples were collected from large-scale pig farms in Bozhou, Anqing, Chuzhou, Hefei, Fuyang, and Lu'an cities in Anhui Province from October to December 2015. Blastocystis was detected in pig stool samples using a PCR assay based on the small subunit ribosomal RNA (SSU rRNA) gene, and positive samples were subjected to sequencing and sequence analysis. Blastocystis subtypes were characterized in the online PubMLST database, and verified using phylogenetic tree created with the neighbor-joining algorithm in the Meta software. RESULTS The prevalence of Blastocystis infection was 43.2% (216/500) in pigs in 6 cities of Anhui Province, and all pig farms were tested positive for Blastocystis. There was a region-specific prevalence rate of Blastocystis (17.2% to 50.0%) (χ2 = 26.084, P < 0.01), and there was a significant difference in the prevalence of Blastocystis sp. among nursery pigs (39.6%), preweaned pigs (19.1%), and growing pigs (62.3%) (χ2 = 74.951, P < 0.01). Both online inquiry and phylogenetic analysis revealed ST1, ST3, and ST5 subtypes in pigs, with ST5 as the predominant subtype. CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of Blastocystis sp. is high in pigs in Anhui Province, with three zoonotic subtypes identified, including ST1, ST3, and ST5.

Abstract
BACKGROUND From November 2022 to February 2023, the Chinese mainland experienced a surge in COVID-19 infection and hospitalization, and the hospital-based healthcare workers (HCWs) might suffer serious psychological crisis during this period. This study aims to assess the depressive and anxiety symptoms among HCWs during the surge of COVID-19 pandemic and to provide possible reference on protecting mental health of HCWs in future infectious disease outbreaks. METHODS A multicenter cross-sectional study was carried out among hospital-based HCWs in the Chinese mainland from 5 January to 9 February 2023. The PHQ-9 (nine-item Patient Health Questionnaire) and GAD-7 (seven-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder Questionnaire) were used to measure depressive and anxiety symptoms. Ordinal logistic regression analysis was performed to identify influencing factors. RESULTS A total of 6522 hospital-based HCWs in the Chinse mainland were included in this survey. The prevalence of depressive symptoms among the HCWs was 70.75%, and anxiety symptoms was 47.87%. The HCWs who perceived higher risk of COVID-19 infection and those who had higher work intensity were more likely to experience depressive and anxiety symptoms. Additionally, higher levels of mindfulness, resilience and perceived social support were negatively associated with depressive and anxiety symptoms. CONCLUSION This study revealed that a high proportion of HCWs in the Chinese mainland suffered from mental health disturbances during the surge of the COVID-19 pandemic. Resilience, mindfulness and perceived social support are important protective factors of HCWs' mental health. Tailored interventions, such as mindfulness practice, should be implemented to alleviate psychological symptoms of HCWs during the COVID-19 pandemic or other similar events in the future.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the disease burden and change trend of lung cancer attributable to chromium in Chinese population from 1990 to 2019, and to provide reference for the formulation of health policies and strategies of disease prevention and control. Methods: In October 2022, using the data and findings of the burden of disease, injury and risk factor published in the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019 (GBD 2019), the burden of lung cancer and its changes caused by occupational hexavalent chromium exposure in Chinese population from 1990 to 2019 were analyzed according to year and gender. The average age structure of the world population was used as the standard population to calculate standardized indicators, and then compared with the global population. Results: The incidence number, death number, disability adjusted life years (DALY) of lung cancer attributable to chromium in Chinese population of 2019 were 833 cases, 790 cases and 22118 person years, respectively. Compared with 1990 (257 cases, 277 cases, 8631 person years), the increase was 224.1%, 185.2%, 156.3%, higher than the global level (101.0%, 134.2%, 117.2%). The standardized morbidity, mortality and DALY rates of lung cancer attributable to chromium in Chinese population of 2019 were 0.059/100000, 0.056/100000 and 1.555/100000, which respectively increased by 169.7%, 137.4%, 113.3% in comparison with that of 1990 (0.022/100000, 0.023/100000 and 0.729/100000). The average annual percent changes were 18.8%, 15.1% and 13.5%, which were higher than the global level (5.7%, 8.4% and 7.0%). In 2019, the DALY caused by chromium-related lung cancer in the Chinese population accounted for 0.0058% (22118/382205568) of the all-cause disease burden in the Chinese population, and 51.8% (22118/42718) of the global population. In 2019, the disease burden of lung cancer attributable to chromium was higher in males than in females, the number of incidence, death and DALY were 576 cases (69.1%), 525 cases (66.5%) and 14717 person years (66.5%), respectively. Conclusion: In 2019, the proportion of disease burden caused by lung cancer attributable to chromium in the Chinese population is low, but it accounts for a high proportion of the global population burden of lung cancer attributable to chromium, and the standardized incidence, mortality and DALY rates show an increasing trend year by year from 1990 to 2019.

Hyperon Polarization along the Beam Direction Relative to the Second and Third Harmonic Event Planes in Isobar Collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200 GeV. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2023; 131:202301. Abstract
The polarization of Λ and Λ[over ¯] hyperons along the beam direction has been measured relative to the second and third harmonic event planes in isobar Ru+Ru and Zr+Zr collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200 GeV. This is the first experimental evidence of the hyperon polarization by the triangular flow originating from the initial density fluctuations. The amplitudes of the sine modulation for the second and third harmonic results are comparable in magnitude, increase from central to peripheral collisions, and show a mild p_{T} dependence. The azimuthal angle dependence of the polarization follows the vorticity pattern expected due to elliptic and triangular anisotropic flow, and qualitatively disagrees with most hydrodynamic model calculations based on thermal vorticity and shear induced contributions. The model results based on one of existing implementations of the shear contribution lead to a correct azimuthal angle dependence, but predict centrality and p_{T} dependence that still disagree with experimental measurements. Thus, our results provide stringent constraints on the thermal vorticity and shear-induced contributions to hyperon polarization. Comparison to previous measurements at RHIC and the LHC for the second-order harmonic results shows little dependence on the collision system size and collision energy.

Abstract
We report the first evidence that the gist mechanism of fuzzy-trace theory and the associative mechanism of activation monitoring theory operate in parallel, in the recall version of the Deese/Roediger/McDermott illusion. In three experiments, we implemented a new methodology that allows their respective empirical indexes, gist strength (GS) and backward associative strength (BAS), to each be manipulated while the other is held constant. In Experiment 1, increasing GS increased false recall of missing words, but increasing BAS did not. In Experiments 2 and 3, however, increasing GS and increasing BAS both increased recall of missing words, and those effects were independent and additive. In all three experiments, GS and BAS affected true recall of list words in qualitatively different ways: (a) Increasing GS always improved true recall, regardless of whether BAS was high or low, but (b) increasing BAS impaired true recall when GS was high and improved true recall when GS was low. To pinpoint the retrieval loci of the two variables' effects, we analyzed the data of all experiments with the dual-retrieval model. Those analyses showed that the variables' respective effects were due to different retrieval processes. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved).

Abstract
The quantum entangled J/ψ→Σ^{+}Σ[over ¯]^{-} pairs from (1.0087±0.0044)×10^{10} J/ψ events taken by the BESIII detector are used to study the nonleptonic two-body weak decays Σ^{+}→nπ^{+} and Σ[over ¯]^{-}→n[over ¯]π^{-}. The CP-odd weak decay parameters of the decays Σ^{+}→nπ^{+} (α_{+}) and Σ[over ¯]^{-}→n[over ¯]π^{-} (α[over ¯]_{-}) are determined to be 0.0481±0.0031_{stat}±0.0019_{syst} and -0.0565±0.0047_{stat}±0.0022_{syst}, respectively. The decay parameter α[over ¯]_{-} is measured for the first time, and the accuracy of α_{+} is improved by a factor of 4 compared to the previous results. The simultaneously determined decay parameters allow the first precision CP symmetry test for any hyperon decay with a neutron in the final state with the measurement of A_{CP}=(α_{+}+α[over ¯]_{-})/(α_{+}-α[over ¯]_{-})=-0.080±0.052_{stat}±0.028_{syst}. Assuming CP conservation, the average decay parameter is determined as ⟨α_{+}⟩=(α_{+}-α[over ¯]_{-})/2=-0.0506±0.0026_{stat}±0.0019_{syst}, while the ratios α_{+}/α_{0} and α[over ¯]_{-}/α[over ¯]_{0} are -0.0490±0.0032_{stat}±0.0021_{syst} and -0.0571±0.0053_{stat}±0.0032_{syst}, where α_{0} and α[over ¯]_{0} are the decay parameters of the decays Σ^{+}→pπ^{0} and Σ[over ¯]^{-}→p[over ¯]π^{0}, respectively.

Abstract
We study the process e^{+}e^{-}→Λ_{c}^{+}Λ[over ¯]_{c}^{-} at twelve center-of-mass energies from 4.6119 to 4.9509 GeV using data samples collected by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The Born cross sections and effective form factors (|G_{eff}|) are determined with unprecedented precision after combining the single and double-tag methods based on the decay process Λ_{c}^{+}→pK^{-}π^{+}. Flat cross sections around 4.63 GeV are obtained and no indication of the resonant structure Y(4630), as reported by Belle, is found. In addition, no oscillatory behavior is discerned in the |G_{eff}| energy dependence of Λ_{c}^{+}, in contrast to what is seen for the proton and neutron cases. Analyzing the cross section together with the polar-angle distribution of the Λ_{c}^{+} baryon at each energy point, the moduli of electric and magnetic form factors (|G_{E}| and |G_{M}|) are extracted and separated. For the first time, the energy dependence of the form factor ratio |G_{E}/G_{M}| is observed, which can be well described by an oscillatory function.

Abstract
This Letter reports the observation of single top quarks produced together with a photon, which directly probes the electroweak coupling of the top quark. The analysis uses 139 fb^{-1} of 13 TeV proton-proton collision data collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Requiring a photon with transverse momentum larger than 20 GeV and within the detector acceptance, the fiducial cross section is measured to be 688±23(stat) _{-71}^{+75}(syst) fb, to be compared with the standard model prediction of 515_{-42}^{+36} fb at next-to-leading order in QCD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Reactive cutaneous capillary endothelial proliferation (RCCEP), a special adverse event (AE) only observed in patients treated with camrelizumab, was reported to be correlated with the efficacy of camrelizumab in patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma. This study to analyze the possible correlation between the occurrence of RCCEP and efficacy of camrelizumab in patients with recurrent/metastatic head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (R/M HNSCC). MATERIAL AND METHODS In this study, we retrospectively analyzed the efficacy and RCCEP occurrence of camrelizumab in 58 patients with R/M HNSCC in the Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital affiliated to Shanghai JiaoTong University School of Medicine between January 2019 and June 2022. Kaplan-Meier analysis was used to assess the correlation between the occurrence of RCCEP and the survival of enrolled patients, and COX multifactor analysis was adopted to evaluate associated factors that affected the efficacy of camrelizumab immunotherapy. RESULTS A significant correlation between the incidence of RCCEP and a higher objective response rate was observed in this study (p=0.008). The occurrence of RCCEP was associated with better median overall survival (17.0 months vs. 8.7 months, p<0.0001, HR=5.944, 95% CI:2.097-16.84) and better median progression-free survival (15.1 months vs. 4.0 months, p<0.0001, HR=4.329,95% CI:1.683-11.13). In COX multifactor analysis, RCCEP occurrence was also an independent prognostic factor affecting OS and PFS in patients with R/M HNSCC. CONCLUSIONS The occurrence of RCCEP can show a better prognosis, it could be used as a clinical biomarker to predict the efficacy of camrelizumab treatment.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disorder. Pyridostigmine (PYR), an acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitor, has been shown to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress in several animal models for inflammation-associated conditions. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of PYR on pristane-induced (PIA) in Dark Agouti (DA) rats. METHOD DA rats were intradermally infused with pristane to establish the PIA model, which was treated with PYR (10 mg/kg/day) for 27 days. The effects of PYR on synovial inflammation, oxidative stress, and gut microbiota were evaluated by determining arthritis scores, H&E staining, quantitative polymerase chain reaction, and biochemical assays, as well as 16S rDNA sequencing. RESULTS Pristane induced arthritis, with swollen paws and body weight loss, increased arthritis scores, synovium hyperplasia, and bone or cartilage erosion. The expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines in synovium was higher in the PIA group than in the control group. PIA rats also displayed elevated levels of malondialdehyde, nitric oxide, superoxide dismutase, and catalase in plasma. Moreover, sequencing results showed that the richness, diversity, and composition of the gut microbiota dramatically changed in PIA rats. PYR abolished pristane-induced inflammation and oxidative stress, and corrected the gut microbiota dysbiosis. CONCLUSION The results of this study support the protective role of PYR in PIA in DA rats, associated with the attenuation of inflammation and correction of gut microbiota dysbiosis. These findings open new perspectives for pharmacological interventions in animal models of RA.

Measurement of the Sensitivity of Two-Particle Correlations in pp Collisions to the Presence of Hard Scatterings. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2023; 131:162301. Abstract
A key open question in the study of multiparticle production in high-energy pp collisions is the relationship between the "ridge"-i.e., the observed azimuthal correlations between particles in the underlying event that extend over all rapidities-and hard or semihard scattering processes. In particular, it is not known whether jets or their soft fragments are correlated with particles in the underlying event. To address this question, two-particle correlations are measured in pp collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV using data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC, with an integrated luminosity of 15.8 pb^{-1}, in two different configurations. In the first case, charged particles associated with jets are excluded from the correlation analysis, while in the second case, correlations are measured between particles within jets and charged particles from the underlying event. Second-order flow coefficients, v_{2}, are presented as a function of event multiplicity and transverse momentum. These measurements show that excluding particles associated with jets does not affect the measured correlations. Moreover, particles associated with jets do not exhibit any significant azimuthal correlations with the underlying event, ruling out hard processes contributing to the ridge.

Abstract
A narrow structure in the pΛ[over ¯] system near the mass threshold, named as X(2085), is observed in the process e^{+}e^{-}→pK^{-}Λ[over ¯] with a statistical significance greater than 20σ. Its spin and parity are determined for the first time to be J^{P}=1^{+} in an amplitude analysis, with a statistical significance greater than 5σ over other quantum numbers (0^{-},1^{-} and 2^{+}). The pole positions of X(2085) are measured to be M_{pole}=(2084_{-2}^{+4}±9) MeV and Γ_{pole}=(58_{-3}^{+4}±25) MeV, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones are systematic. The analysis is based on the study of the process e^{+}e^{-}→pK^{-}Λ[over ¯] and uses the data samples collected with the BESIII detector at the center-of-mass energies sqrt[s]=4.008, 4.178, 4.226, 4.258, 4.416, and 4.682 GeV with a total integrated luminosity of 8.35 fb^{-1}.

Abstract
A search is made for potential ccc[over ¯]c[over ¯] tetraquarks decaying into a pair of charmonium states in the four muon final state using proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^{-1} recorded by the ATLAS experiment at LHC. Two decay channels, J/ψ+J/ψ→4μ and J/ψ+ψ(2S)→4μ, are studied. Backgrounds are estimated based on a hybrid approach involving Monte Carlo simulations and data-driven methods. Statistically significant excesses with respect to backgrounds dominated by the single parton scattering are seen in the di-J/ψ channel consistent with a narrow resonance at 6.9 GeV and a broader structure at lower mass. A statistically significant excess is also seen in the J/ψ+ψ(2S) channel. The fitted masses and decay widths of the structures are reported.

Abstract
This Letter reports the observation of τ-lepton-pair production in ultraperipheral lead-lead collisions Pb+Pb→Pb(γγ→ττ)Pb and constraints on the τ-lepton anomalous magnetic moment a_{τ}. The dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 1.44 nb^{-1} of LHC Pb+Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV recorded by the ATLAS experiment in 2018. Selected events contain one muon from a τ-lepton decay, an electron or charged-particle track(s) from the other τ-lepton decay, little additional central-detector activity, and no forward neutrons. The γγ→ττ process is observed in Pb+Pb collisions with a significance exceeding 5 standard deviations and a signal strength of μ_{ττ}=1.03_{-0.05}^{+0.06} assuming the standard model value for a_{τ}. To measure a_{τ}, a template fit to the muon transverse-momentum distribution from τ-lepton candidates is performed, using a dimuon (γγ→μμ) control sample to constrain systematic uncertainties. The observed 95% confidence-level interval for a_{τ} is -0.057

Abstract
The process e^{+}e^{-}→D_{s}^{*+}D_{s}^{*-} is studied with a semi-inclusive method using data samples at center-of-mass energies from threshold to 4.95 GeV collected with the BESIII detector operating at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider. The Born cross sections of the process are measured for the first time with high precision in this energy region. Two resonance structures are observed in the energy-dependent cross sections around 4.2 and 4.4 GeV. By fitting the cross sections with a coherent sum of three Breit-Wigner amplitudes and one phase-space amplitude, the two significant structures are assigned masses of (4186.8±8.7±30) and (4414.6±3.4±6.1) MeV/c^{2}, widths of (55±15±53) and (122.5±7.5±8.1) MeV, where the first errors are statistical and the second ones are systematic. The inclusion of a third Breit-Wigner amplitude is necessary to describe a structure around 4.79 GeV.

Abstract
Using 7.33 fb^{-1} of e^{+}e^{-} collision data taken with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we report the first experimental study of the purely leptonic decay D_{s}^{*+}→e^{+}ν_{e}. Our data contain a signal of this decay with a statistical significance of 2.9σ. The branching fraction of D_{s}^{*+}→e^{+}ν_{e} is measured to be (2.1_{-0.9_{stat}}^{+1.2}±0.2_{syst})×10^{-5}, corresponding to an upper limit of 4.0×10^{-5} at the 90% confidence level. Taking the total width of the D_{s}^{*+} [(0.070±0.028) keV] predicted with the radiative D_{s}^{*+} decay from the lattice QCD calculation as input, the decay constant of the D_{s}^{*+} is determined to be f_{D_{s}^{*+}}=(214_{-46_{stat}}^{+61}±44_{syst}) MeV, corresponding to an upper limit of 354 MeV at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Accurate delineation of Gross Target Volume (GTV) and Organs at Risk (OARs) in medical images is an essential but challenging step in radiotherapy. Deep-learning based automated delineation methods, which learn from manual annotations, are currently prevalent in academic research. However, the limited resolution of medical images and the fuzzy boundaries of lesions and organs present a challenge to the precision of manual annotations. By leveraging the complementary information from multi-modal medical images, this study proposed a novel method to generate objective boundaries of GTV and OARs. MATERIALS/METHODS We present a novel method of objective boundary generation, inspired by image matting primarily used for 2D RGB natural images, to process 3D grayscale medical images. The proposed method has the following advantages. 1) It allows for flexible input modalities and assigns weights to each modality according to their relative significance when computing information flows in the matting algorithm. 2) It computes 3D spatial information flow among voxels, which has more advantages over its 2D counterpart. 3) It has a closed-form solution that generates deterministic results. To evaluate the characteristics of the generated boundaries, patients with stage I nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) were studied, with CT images and multi-modal MR images (T1, T1C, T2) aligned using deformable registration. Region of Interests (ROIs), i.e., GTV and parotid gland, were used, with a rough trimap marking extremely few foreground voxels, many background voxels, and a large unknown region. The proposed algorithm leverages the connection between each voxel and its nearest neighbors in the feature space, to propagate the opacity information. RESULTS We evaluated the results by employing both qualitative and quantitative methods. Using qualitative evaluation, experienced clinicians confirmed that the results were in agreement with the input data, especially for areas where borders were visible in most modalities (e.g., between air and tumor). For more challenging regions, where boundaries were unclear in the images, the results displayed fine-grained opacity transitions indicating the confidence of each voxel belonging to the ROI. When compared to the delineations made by clinicians, we found our results are usually more compact. We define a precision metric that evaluates the ratio of the matted foreground inside clinicians' delineations versus the entire matted foreground. Using a threshold of 0.4, our binarized result scored 0.95 for GTV and 0.92 for parotid gland. CONCLUSION The proposed method demonstrated satisfactory results on challenging ROIs. The objective boundaries generated by this method have advantages in many aspects, including improvement of delineation protocols, enhancement of manual annotation consistency, and increase of deep-learning based automated delineation accuracy.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) constitute a plastic and heterogeneous cell population of the tumor microenvironment (TME) that can regulate tumor proliferation and support resistance to therapy, constituting promising targets for the development of novel anticancer agents. The efficacy of radiotherapy, a mainstay of cancer treatment, can strongly influence TAMs recruitment and phenotype. Our previous results demonstrated that SHP-2 and PD-L1 inhibition combined with radiotherapy enhances systemic antitumor effects in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Especially, SHP-2 has an important effect on the polarization of TAM in the context of radiotherapy. However, the immune mechanisms of SHP-2 in TAM remain largely unknown, and this leads us to implement this project. MATERIALS/METHODS Transmission electron microscopy and differential ultracentrifugation were used to verify the existence of exosomes. The bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDM) and peritoneal macrophages (PM) were derived from C57BL/6 mice for vitro tests. In vivo and in vitro assays were used to identify roles of exosomal miRNA targeting SHP-2. To investigate the regulating function of SHP-2 in TAMs, co-culture experiments, qPCR, Western Blot, Flow Cytometry and Oxygraph-2k were employed. And we also explore tumor growth and tumor environment changes in SHP-2 flox/floxLyz-Cre+/- (CKO) mice. RESULTS We found that irradiated tumor cells-derived exosomes reprogramed their energy metabolism and polarized primary macrophages to an anti-inflammatory phenotype. Furthermore, SHP-2 in macrophages was a direct target of exosomal miR-138-5p from irradiated tumor cells. In vitro study also demonstrates that miR-138-5p can down-regulate SHP-2 in the BMDMs and PMs. Further research has shown that SHP-2 negatively regulated glycolysis through dephosphorylating Pyruvate kinase M2 (PKM2) at the Tyr105 site. In addition, SHP-2 can inhabit PKM2 translocation to the nucleus by dephosphorylating PKM2 at the Ser37 site. Thus, the SHP099 (a SHP-2 inhibitor) can uptake and utilization of glucose by SHP-2/PKM2(Tyr105) (Ser37)/β-catenin/LDHA/Glut-1 axis, suggesting that SHP099 plays positive roles on glycolysis and M1-polarized. In vivo study showed that SHP-2 flox/floxLyz-Cre+/- (CKO) mice display enhanced control of solid tumor growth, accompanied by increased the proportion of M1-like macrophages. CONCLUSION Our study demonstrates that exosomal miR-138-5p from irradiated tumor cells can modulate macrophage polarization by targeting SHP-2. And SHP-2 negatively regulates glycolysis and polarize macrophage to an M2 phenotype by SHP-2/PKM2(Tyr105) (Ser37)/β-catenin/LDHA/Glut-1 axis.

The effect of the enhanced recovery after surgery protocol and the reduced use of opioids on postoperative outcomes in elderly patients with colorectal cancer. EUROPEAN REVIEW FOR MEDICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL SCIENCES 2023; 27:10053-10060. [PMID: 37916375 DOI: 10.26355/eurrev_202310_34185] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [MESH Headings] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 11/03/2023]
Abstract
OBJECTIVE The study aimed to assess the impact of the enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) pathways and the reduced use of opioids on postoperative outcomes in elderly colorectal cancer (CRC) patients who underwent laparoscopic surgery under general anesthesia (GA). PATIENTS AND METHODS Clinical data from 99 elderly patients who underwent laparoscopic CRC surgery in the First Affiliated Hospital of Hebei North University from April 2021 to April 2023 were retrospectively analyzed and grouped based on the method of pain control measures received. Of 99 patients, 51 received conventional doses of opioid drugs (conventional group), and 48 patients were treated with reduced doses of opioids based on the principles of ERAS (low-dose group). Perioperative characteristics, postoperative pain level, cognitive function, serum biochemical index levels, and adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. RESULTS The first exhaust time, defecation time, and bedtime activity time of the low-dose group were compared to the conventional group (p<0.05). On the first day after the surgery, the mini-mental state examination (MMSE) score of the low-dose group was higher than the conventional group (p<0.05). After the surgery, the levels of serum brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) decreased in both groups, while the levels of neuron-specific enolase (NSE) and 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) increased. However, compared to the conventional group, the low-dose group had higher levels of BDNF and lower levels of NSE and 5-HT (p<0.05). The incidence of adverse reactions in the low-dose group was lower than that in the conventional group (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS ERAS protocol and the reduced use of opioid drugs in CRC patients who underwent surgery under GA is associated with an analgesic effect that is comparable to that of conventional opioid use. Reduced dosage of opioid drugs lessened cognitive impairment and lowered the incidence of adverse reactions in surgical patients with CRC.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) To evaluate and compare the outcomes of supraclavicular lymph node dissection (SLND) plus radiotherapy (RT) and RT alone for patients with synchronous ipsilateral supraclavicular lymph node metastasis (sISLM). MATERIALS/METHODS In all, 293 patients with sISLM across three centers were included. Of these, 85 (29.0%) received SLND plus RT and 208 (71.0%) received RT alone. All patients received preoperative systemic therapy followed by mastectomy or lumpectomy and axillary dissection. Supraclavicular recurrence-free survival (SCRFS), locoregional recurrence-free survival (LRRFS), distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS), disease-free survival (DFS), and overall survival (OS) were evaluated by using the Kaplan-Meier method and multivariate Cox models. Multiple imputation was used for missing data. RESULTS The median follow-up duration of the RT and SLND+RT groups were 53.7 and 63.5 months, respectively. For the RT and SLND+RT groups, the 5-year SCRFS rates were 91.7% vs. 85.5% (P = 0.522), LRRFS rates were 79.1% vs. 73.1% (P = 0.412), DMFS rates were 60.4 vs. 58.8% (P = 0.708), DFS rates were 57.6% vs. 49.7% (P = 0.291), and OS rates were 71.9% vs. 62.2% (P = 0.272), respectively. There was no significant effect on any outcome when comparing SLND+RT versus RT alone in the multivariate analysis. Based on four risk factors of DFS, patients were classified into three risk groups: the intermediate- and high-risk groups had significantly lower survival outcomes than the low-risk group. SLND+RT did not improve outcomes of any risk group compared with RT alone. CONCLUSION Patients with sISLM may not benefit from SLND. Distant metastasis remained the major failure pattern, especially for intermediate- and high-risk groups with sISLM may not benefit from SLND. Distant metastasis remained the major failure pattern, especially for intermediate- and high-risk groups.

Abstract
Light intensity, wavelength, and photoperiod have a combined effect on chicken incubation. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of 12-h light, 12-h dark (12L:12D) photoperiod of white light (380-780 nm, WL), blue light (455/447.5-462.5 nm, BL), and green light (525/515-535 nm, GL) in chicken perceived light intensity during layer incubation on hatching performance, embryo development, eye structure, and melatonin concentration. Three batches of eggs from Jinghong No. 1 layer breeder were used in this experiment. Light stimulation had no effect on hatchability, and no consistent effect on embryo weight and newly hatched chick weight. However, the average hatching time of white light group and green light group was 7.3 h and 5.5 h later than that of the control group. Therefore, the holding period of chicks was significantly shortened (P = 0.001) in these 2 light groups. Light stimulation had a significant effect on the thickness of retinal layers (P < 0.05), retinal layers of white light group was thicker than that of the other 3 groups. Melatonin levels of chicks hatched in the green light and blue light were significantly higher than that of chicks hatched in the white light and darkness (P < 0.05). It indicated that the monochrome green and blue light promoted the expression of melatonin in chicken embryos. No significant diurnal rhythms were found at the level of plasma melatonin in 4 groups on d 21 using cosine analysis. It was concluded that green light has a positive effect on embryo development and melatonin secretion, while white light probably has positive effect on eye development. Furthermore, both green and white light stimulation resulted in late hatch for layer egg incubation. The obtained results are important in determining the light protocol for chicken incubation.

PD-L1 Inhibitors Combined with Thoracic Radiotherapy in First-Line Treatment of Extensive Stage Small Cell Lung Cancer: A Propensity Score-Matched, Real-World Study. Int J Radiat Oncol Biol Phys 2023; 117:S127-S128. Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) The CREST study showed that the addition of thoracic radiotherapy (TRT) could improve the survival of extensive stage small cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC), but whether TRT can bring survival benefit in the era of immunotherapy is controversial. This study aims to explore the efficacy and safety of adding TRT to the combination of PD-L1 inhibitors and chemotherapy. MATERIALS/METHODS Thepatients who received PD-L1 inhibitors combined with platinum-based chemotherapy as the first-line treatment of ES-SCLC from January 2019 to December 2021 were retrospectively collected. According to whether they received TRT, they were divided into two groups, and the follow-up analysis was performed. Propensity score matching (PSM) in with a 1:1 ratio was performed to balance the baseline characteristics of the two cohorts. The endpoints were progression-free survival (PFS) and OS. RESULTS A total of 211 patients with ES-SCLC were enrolled, of whom 70 (33.2%) patients received standard therapy plus TRT as first-line treatment, and 141 (66.8%) patients in the control group received PD-L1 inhibitors plus chemotherapy. After PSM, a total of 65 pairs of patients were enrolled in the analysis. There were no significant differences in baseline characteristics between the two groups of patients who received TRT and those who did not. In all patients, the median PFS (mPFS) in the TRT group and the non-TRT groupwere 9.5 months and 7.2 months, respectively, with HR = 0.60 (95% CI 0.41-0.87, p = 0.007). The median OS (mOS) in the TRT group was also significantly longer than that in the non-TRT group (24.1 months vs. 18.5 months, HR = 0.53, 95% CI 0.32-0.85, p = 0.009). Multivariable analysis showed that baseline liver metastasis and bone metastasis were independent prognostic factors for OS. In terms of safety, immunotherapy combined with thoracic radiotherapy increased the incidence of treatment-related pneumonia (p<0.001), most of which were grade 1-2. CONCLUSION This real-world study shows that adding TRT to durvalumab or atezolizumab plus chemotherapy significantly improves survival in ES-SCLC. It leads to more treatment-related pneumonia, but most of them can be relieved after symptomatic treatment. This treatment model deserves to be explored in prospective clinical trials.

Association of Overall Survival Benefit Profile of Radiotherapy with Progression-Free Survival after Chemotherapy for Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma. Int J Radiat Oncol Biol Phys 2023; 117:S63-S64. [PMID: 37784543 DOI: 10.1016/j.ijrobp.2023.06.364] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 10/04/2023]
Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Benefit of radiotherapy (RT) after chemotherapy (CT) of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) remains controversial. It is unknown whether improved progression-free survival (PFS) by RT translate into an overall survival (OS) benefit. To address this question, our research comprehensively evaluated the risk-benefit assessment of RT in DLBCL through an in-depth examination of previously reported data from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and retrospective comparative studies. MATERIALS/METHODS After screening and quality control, this study included 7 randomized controlled trials and 52 retrospective studies of combined-modality therapy (CMT) versus CT alone. The correlation between PFS and OS was evaluated using the Pearson linear correlation coefficient at trial- and study arm-level. A risk-benefit assessment to describe the OS benefit of RT was performed in meta-analyses of pooled HROS with PFS patterns. RESULTS In RCTs, strong correlations were found between HRPFS and HROS at trial-level (r = 0.876), and PFS and OS at treatment arm-level, regardless of treatments (r = 0.945-0.964 for all, CMT or CT). In retrospective studies, similar correlations between HRPFS and HROS (r = 0.639-0.650), and PFS and OS rates (r = 0.882-0.910) were observed, independent of treatments or rituximab. Adding RT into rituximab-based CT increased the average PFS rate from 63.6 ± 18.9% to 81.5 ± 10.6% (P<0.001), with differential OS benefits of RT between studies. Patients can be stratified into four PFS patterns (>80%, >60-80%, >40-60%, and ≤40%); absolute gain in OS from RT ranged from ≤5% at PFS >80% to ∼21% at PFS ≤40%, with pooled-HROS from 0.70 (95% CI, 0.51-0.97) to 0.48 (95% CI, 0.36-0.63) after rituximab-based CT. Linear analysis revealed an OS advantage of CMT over CT alone in a PFS-dependent manner. CONCLUSION We demonstrate a varied OS benefit profile of RT upon different PFS patterns, and provide valuable evidence for making treatment decisions and designing clinical trials. Future strategies to select the use of RT will need careful tailoring in clinical practice or within RCT to optimize outcome.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) To investigate the association between utilization of radiotherapy and differences in survival among patients with non-gastric early-stage mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma at different primary sites. MATERIALS/METHODS A total of 5,995 patients with non-gastric early-stage MALT lymphoma in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database treated between 2000-2015 were extracted and analyzed. Mediation analyses were conducted to quantitatively determine the proportion of the relationship between OS and primary sites mediated by radiotherapy. Inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) was conducted to control confounding factors affecting treatment choice. RESULTS After controlling for confounding factors, pulmonary MALT lymphoma was found to have the highest rate of omitted radiotherapy compared to other primary sites, including ocular adnexa, salivary gland, skin and other sites. Multivariate Cox analyses showed that lung MALT lymphoma patients had the lowest 10-year OS rate of 58.3%, while skin MALT lymphoma patients had the highest 10-year OS rate of 81.6%. After balancing confounding factors that potentially affected the choice of radiotherapy using IPTW, differences in utilization of radiotherapy explained a significant portion of the poor prognosis of lung MALT lymphoma (35.6%, P = 0.002) and the favorable prognosis of skin MALT lymphoma (6.1%, P <0.001). CONCLUSION Differences in survival among patients with non-gastric early-stage MALT lymphoma at different primary sites are associated with disparities in the utilization of radiotherapy.

Abstract
AIM To predict progesterone receptor (PR) expression of high-grade meningioma using radiomics based on enhanced T1-weighted imaging (WI). MATERIALS AND METHODS There were 157 cases of high-grade meningioma in the study. Seventy-eight cases had negative expression and 79 cases had positive expression. Spearman's rank correlation coefficient and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression were used to select the valuable features. The models were developed by naive Bayes (NB), random forest (RF), and support vector machine (SVM). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) and decision curve analysis (DCA) analysis were used to assess the models. RESULTS Nine features were selected as the valuable features using Spearman's analysis and LASSO regression. The RF and NB models achieved the same area under the ROC curve (AUC) of 0.75, which was higher than that of SVM (0.74). There was no significant difference among the AUCs of the three models (p>0.05). There was a larger net benefit in the RF model than the SVM and NB models across all threshold probabilities in the DCA analysis. CONCLUSION The RF model had good performance in predicting PR expression of high-grade meningioma. PR expression evaluation for high-grade meningioma would be helpful in clinical practice.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) We evaluated outcomes of patients with brain metastases (BM) treated with surgical resection and postoperative cavity stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) to identify which baseline characteristics and treatment factors may increase risk for local recurrence (LR). MATERIALS/METHODS From June 2017 to December 2021, 68 patients underwent surgical resection for BM followed by single-fraction SRS (n = 15) or fractionated SRS (FSRS) in 3 (n = 24) or 5 (n = 29) fractions to the postoperative cavity using frameless LINAC-based technique. Patients treated with surgery alone or surgery with postoperative whole brain radiotherapy (WBRT) were excluded. Median prescription doses were 1600 cGy (range: 1440-1875) in 1 fraction, 2400 cGy (range: 2100-2700) in 3 fractions, and 3000 cGy (range: 2500-3000) in 5 fractions. Local control (LC) and overall survival (OS) were estimated by the Kaplan-Meier method. Cox proportional hazards models were used to compare groups. RESULTS Median follow-up was 19.5 months (IQR: 9.0-34.7). Median patient age was 62.5 years (range: 24-80), and 38 (55.9%) patients were male. Primary tumors were lung (n = 29), including NSCLC (n = 28) and SCLC (n = 1), melanoma (n = 12), breast (n = 11), and other (n = 16). Median preoperative tumor maximal dimension was 3.5cm (range: 1.1-6.3). Median planning treatment volume (PTV) was larger in the FSRS group (26.2cc (range: 6.5-151.8)) than in the SRS group (7.7cc (range: 1.1-11.5)) (p<0.001). Median number of concurrently treated intact lesions was 0 (range: 0-13). Median time from surgery to SRS was 32 days (range: 14-77). Forty-eight (70.6%) patients were treated with immunotherapy or targeted therapy. Median OS was 22.3 months (95% CI: 14.4-30.9). The 1-year and 2-year OS rates were 70% and 48%, respectively. The 1-year and 2-year LC rates were 86% and 73%, respectively. Median time to LR was 8.4 months (95% CI: 4.4-11.0). Among the 14 patients with LR, 11 had undergone salvage therapy at last follow-up which included repeat SRS (n = 4), WBRT (n = 3), palliative local radiotherapy (n = 2), surgery followed by repeat SRS (n = 1), and systemic therapy (n = 1). Eleven (16.2%) patients ultimately underwent WBRT post-SRS for local and/or distant failure. No difference in LC was observed based on primary tumor, time interval between resection and SRS, PTV volume, prescription dose, or fractionation regimen (SRS v. FSRS). However, all LR in the 3-fraction group occurred in patients who received less than 2700 cGy. CONCLUSION Favorable LC and OS outcomes were observed following postoperative cavity SRS for resected BM in a modern cohort with a large percentage of patients receiving immunotherapy or targeted therapy. No prognostic factors were identified for LC which may be attributable to the cohort size and small number of events observed. However, our findings suggest that patients who undergo 3-fraction FSRS should be treated to a total dose of 2700 cGy to maximize LC.

Study of DNA Damage-Induced MSI1 Serine-347 Phosphorylation in Regulation of Radiosensitivity in Glioblastoma Multiforme. Int J Radiat Oncol Biol Phys 2023; 117:e245. Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Despite the growing therapeutic techniques, Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) patients have limited survival due to the location and malignancies of tumor burdens. Radiotherapy is one of the common treatments with maximal surgery and chemotherapy. However, the often radioresistance occurred in GBM results in recurrence and marginal disease control. Therefore, the medical need remains unmet to treat GBM efficiently. Musashi-1 (MSI1) is one of the RNA-binding proteins known for its high oncogenicity in many cancers, including GBM. MSI1 is highly expressed in tumors and abundant in tumorigenic cancer cells. However, the relationship between MSI1 and GBM radioresistance is still largely unknown. MATERIALS/METHODS Three human GBM cell lines, U87-MG, 05MG, and S1R1, were used in vitro, and an orthotopic nude mouse GBM model was employed in vivo. Phos-Tag blotting and phospho-MSI1 (Ser 347) antibody helped to detect the phosphorylation level of MSI1. Ultra-low attachment dishes and 3D cell culture were performed for the tumor initiation study. Flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry staining, and confocal microscope with immunofluorescent staining provide respective biomarker expressions. RESULTS We initiated our study by inducing DNA damage on GBM cell lines using ionizing radiation and an alkylating agent. With Phos-Tag and NetPhos3.1 prediction, we hypothesized that a novel phosphorylation site on MSI1 serine-347 (S347) may sense DNA damage events. To unveil the molecular mechanism, we found DNA-dependent protein kinase catalytic subunits (DNA-PKcs), one of the DNA damage repair components, physically interacted with MSI1 in the role of a kinase. We suggest that activated DNA-PKcs may phosphorylate MSI1-S347, leading to enhanced oncogenicity and subsequent malignancies. Wild-type MSI1-overexpressing GBM cells (MSI1-WT) showed better colony and sphere-forming ability, whereas loss-of-function mutation S347A deprived the oncogenic behaviors. Besides, S347A limited the cancer initiation in the orthotopic animal model compared with MSI1-WT, suggesting that phosphorylation of MSI1-S347 promotes GBM tumorigenicity both in vitro and in vivo. In addition, we noticed that CD133 (Prominin-1), a well-characterized cancer stem-like cell marker, accompanied MSI1-WT introduction but was not seen in S347A cells. Intriguingly, we identified a few members of the let-7 microRNA family, including let-7b, 7e, and 7i, who were rescued by the S347A mutation and correspondingly expressed with CD133 levels and tumorigenic abilities. CONCLUSION This study explains a vital relationship between GBM radioresistance and a novel oncogenic post-translational modification on MSI1 S347. IR-induced DNA damage triggers DNA-PKcs activation that subsequently phosphorylates MSI1-S347, enhancing GBM tumorigenicity via let-7 pathway. Further studies on the potential regulators, either inhibiting DNA-PKcs or antagonizing agents, may provide GBM patients with an optimistic outcome.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) It is controversial whether to add consolidative radiotherapy (RT) after chemoimmunotherapy in the first-line treatment for diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). This study aimed to investigate the long-term net survival benefit of RT for early-stage DLBCL in the rituximab era. MATERIALS/METHODS The data of 10,841 adult patients with early-stage DLBCL from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database between 2002 and 2015 were extracted and analyzed. The patients had received combined modality treatment (CMT, chemotherapy plus RT) or chemotherapy alone. Linear regression analysis was performed for RT utilization by year of diagnosis. Competing risk analysis was used to evaluate the cumulative incidence of mortality according to the cause of death. Inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) was used to balance the distribution of covariates between treatment arms. Relative survival (RS), standardized mortality ratio (SMR), and transformed Cox regression were performed to estimate the net survival benefit of RT by controlling for background mortality. RESULTS Linear regression revealed that the slope of the best-fit line for RT utilization over time was negative between 2002 and 2015 (m = -0.006, P = 0.003). A total of 4,648 deaths were recorded among 10,841 patients; 55.6% were lymphoma-related death (LRD), and 44.4% were attributed to other causes. Patients initially treated with CMT had a lower cumulative incidence of LRD than chemotherapy alone (HR 0.63, 95% CI: 0.57-0.69; P < 0.001). The 10-year overall survival (OS) rate of 66.1%, RS rate of 85.0%, and SMR of 1.71 achieved with CMT were significantly better than chemotherapy alone (OS, 53.0%; RS, 69.8%; SMR, 2.62; P < 0.001). By IPTW and multivariable analysis, the addition of RT remained associated with better OS (HR 0.67, 95% CI: 0.62-0.71; P < 0.001) and RS (HR 0.69, 95% CI: 0.65-0.74; P < 0.001). CONCLUSION RT was associated with better long-term net survival in patients with early-stage DLBCL in the rituximab era.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Abscopal effect induced by radiotherapy and immune checkpoint blockade is a promising yet far from satisfactory strategy in clinical. The underlying immune mechanism, especially driven by monocytes remains poorly undefined. Monocytes consist of two phenotypically and functionally distinct subsets distinguished by expression of chemokine receptors CCR2 and CX3CR1: classical inflammatory Ly6ChiCCR2hi monocytes and nonclassical patrolling Ly6CloCCR2loCX3CR1hi monocytes. Monocytes differentiate and transit to other myeloid cells such as dendritic cells and macrophages according to various environmental cues. Herein we investigated the roles of monocyte subsets in modulating tumor control consisting of combination RT and myeloid checkpoint agonist αCD40 to specifically ignite myeloid cell activation. MATERIALS/METHODS To establish abscopal model, contralateral tumors were implanted in each mouse, while only one side were treated with RT (8 Gy × 3) + αCD40 agonist (50 μg, intra-tumor). Tumor volume and mice survival were compared in each group (control, RT, αCD40 and RT + αCD40). Ccr2RFP/+ Cx3cr1GFP/+ (R2 × 3), Ccr2RFP/RFPCx3cr1+/+ (R2-KO) and Ccr2+/+Cx3cr1GFP/GFP (X3-KO) mice were used for cell tracking and to dissect chemokine receptor CCR2 and CX3CR1 on monocyte. Tumor infiltrating immune cells were analyzed by flowcytometry and RNA-seq. RESULTS RT combined with αCD40 significantly dampened tumor growth on both ipsilateral and contralateral sides in abscopal model (p< 0.01), accompanied by upregulation of chemokine receptors CCR2 and CX3CR1 on myeloid cells were both increased in tumor and peripheral blood. Chemokine ligands CCL2, CCL3, CCL5, CCL7, CCL12 and CX3CL1 were upregulated in tumor after RT and αCD40 treatment, recruiting CCR2 and CX3CR1 expressing monocytes in situ. To elucidate the roles of CCR2 and CX3CR1 in mediating local and systemic anti-tumor immunity, R2 × 3, R2-KO and X3-KO mice with combined treatment were used. Tumor size on ipsilateral leg were similar among groups. However, tumor growth was significantly delayed on contralateral side in X3-KO mice while accelerated in R2-KO mice compared with that in R2 × 3 mice. Mechanistically, remarkable decrease of antigen presenting dendritic cells (MHCII+Ly6ChiCD11c+) were observed in R2-KO mice. Moreover, phagocytosis was strengthened in macrophages (F4/80+CD11b+) of X3-KO mice. CONCLUSION CX3CR1 deletion ignite anti-tumor immunity elicited by RT and αCD40 through enhanced phagocytosis in macrophages, while CCR2 deletion renders inferior tumor control through reduction of dendritic cells. Preferential targeting nonclassical patrolling monocyte may lead to enhanced local and systemic tumor control.

Assessing the feasibility of SUVindex (a metric derived from FDG PET/CT) for the diagnosis of polymyalgia rheumatica. Clin Radiol 2023; 78:737-745. [PMID: 37429761 DOI: 10.1016/j.crad.2023.06.007] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [MESH Headings] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 02/10/2023] [Revised: 06/12/2023] [Accepted: 06/18/2023] [Indexed: 07/12/2023]
Abstract
AIM To evaluate the feasibility of standard uptake value (SUV) index (ratio lesional maximum SUV [SUVmax] to liver mean SUV [SUVmean]) as a metabolic parameter for diagnosing polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR). MATERIALS AND METHODS A retrospective group of patients with PMR and controls with symptoms similar to PMR but diagnosed with other diseases. Semiquantitative and qualitative analysis of 2-[18F]-fluoro-2-deoxy-d-glucose (18F-FDG) uptake at 18 sites was undertaken for all patients. The diagnostic value of positron-emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) for PMR was assessed by R software using logistic regression and a generalised additive model (GAM). All images were examined independently by two nuclear medicine physicians with extensive work experience. RESULTS The characteristic sites of PMR were the ischial tuberosity, interspinous bursa, periarticular hip, and symphysis pubis enthesis. The area under the curve (AUC) of the characteristic site SUV index was 0.930, and the best cut-off value was 1.685 with a sensitivity of 84.6% and a specificity of 92.6%. After adjusting for potential confounders, the probability of PMR diagnosis increased as the characteristic site SUV index increased and there was a nonlinear correlation between the two. When the characteristic site SUV index was ≥2.56, the probability of PMR gradually reached the threshold effect, which was as high as 90% or more. CONCLUSION The characteristic site SUV index is an independent factor for diagnosing PMR, and PMR should be highly suspected when it is ≥ 1.685. Nonetheless, it is important to note that these findings are based on an initial retrospective single-centre study and require external validation and further prospective evaluation before being translated into clinical practice.

Abstract
We report on the first search for Λ[over ¯]-Λ oscillations in the decay J/ψ→pK^{-}Λ[over ¯]+c.c. by analyzing 1.31×10^{9} J/ψ events accumulated with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The J/ψ events are produced using e^{+}e^{-} collisions at a center of mass energy sqrt[s]=3.097 GeV. No evidence for hyperon oscillations is observed. The upper limit for the oscillation rate of Λ[over ¯] to Λ hyperons is determined to be P(Λ)=[B(J/ψ→pK^{-}Λ+c.c.)/B(J/ψ→pK^{-}Λ[over ¯]+c.c.)]<4.4×10^{-6} corresponding to an oscillation parameter δm_{ΛΛ[over ¯]} of less than 3.8×10^{-18} GeV at the 90% confidence level.

[PMID: 37670653 DOI: 10.3760/cma.j.cn112142-20230310-00095] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [MESH Headings] [Grants] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 09/07/2023]
Abstract
Objective: To analyze the disease composition and primary surgical procedures in pediatric inpatients with secondary glaucoma. Methods: A retrospective case series study was conducted. Clinical data of children aged≤16 years with secondary glaucoma who were admitted to the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, Sun Yat-sen University, between January 1, 2017, and December 31, 2021, were included. The patients were classified according to the Childhood Glaucoma Research Network (CGRN) classification system, and their diagnoses, underlying factors, gender, age of onset, affected eye(s), age and type of initial surgery, and ophthalmic examination data were analyzed. Statistical analysis was performed using Kruskal-Wallis rank sum test and χ2 test. Results: A total of 540 patients (744 eyes) were included in this study, comprising 319 males (59.1%) and 221 females (40.9%). Unilateral disease was observed in 336 cases (62.2%), while bilateral involvement was present in 204 cases (37.8%). The age of onset was 4.0 (0.0, 9.0) years, and the median age of the first anti-glaucoma surgery was 5.0 (0.7, 10.0) years. Among them, there were 195 cases (36.1%) of secondary glaucoma associated with non-acquired ocular anomalies (SCG-O), with a median age of onset of 0.0 (0.0, 4.0) years, and 97 of these cases (49.7%) were male. secondary glaucoma associated with non-acquired systemic disease or syndrome (SCG-S) were observed in 68 cases (12.6%), with a median age of glaucoma onset of 0.1 (0.0, 4.0) years, and 47 of these cases (69.1%) were male. Secondary glaucoma associated with acquired conditions (SCG-A) accounted for 192 cases (35.6%), with a median age of onset of 9.0 (5.0, 13.0) years, and 125 of these cases (65.1%) were male. There were 85 cases (15.7%) of secondary glaucoma following cataract surgery (SCG-C), with a median age of onset of 3.0 (0.8, 7.0) years, and 50 of these cases (58.8%) were male. Male patients were predominant in SCG-S and SCG-A, with 47 cases (69.1%) and 125 cases (65.1%), respectively (χ2=9.94, 17.52; P=0.002,<0.001). Except for SCG-O, all other types of pediatric secondary glaucoma predominantly affected only one eye: SCG-S in 52 cases (76.5%), SCG-A in 128 cases (66.7%), and SCG-C in 54 cases (63.5%) (χ2=19.06, 21.33, 6.22; all P<0.05). The highest proportion of SCG-O was attributed to congenital ectropion uveae (46 cases, 23.6%). Sturge-Weber syndrome was the most common SCG-S (45 cases, 66.3%), while SCG-A mostly resulted from trauma (59 cases, 30.8%) and corticosteroid use (56 cases, 29.2%). Trabeculectomy (211 eyes, 30.8%) and glaucoma drainage device implantation (197 eyes, 28.7%) were the most frequently performed primary surgical procedures. Conclusions: SCG-O and SCG-A were found to be common types of pediatric secondary glaucoma. The age of onset and the choice of primary anti-glaucoma surgical procedures varied among different types of pediatric secondary glaucoma. However, overall, trabeculectomy and glaucoma drainage device implantation were the primary surgical procedures predominantly employed.

Abstract
Objective: To understand the incidence and causes of HIV/AIDS death patients in Taizhou from 1998 to 2022. Methods: The data were collected from the AIDS Integrated Prevention and Control Information System of China Information System for Diseases Control and Prevention and Taizhou Chronic Disease Information Management System. By the end of 2022, a total of 5 126 HIV/AIDS patients living in Taizhou for a long time were included, SAS 9.4 was used for Kruskal-Wallis test, χ2 test and trend analysis. Results: From 1998 to 2022, a total of 796 HIV/AIDS patients died, with a fatality rate of 15.53% (796/5 126), in whom 52.26% (416/796) died within one year after confirmation. The proportion of HIV/AIDS patients who died within one year decreased (trend χ2=5.60, P<0.001). For the constituent of death causes, there were 140 (17.59%) deaths of AIDS, 237 (29.77%) deaths of malignant tumors, 99 (12.44%) deaths of cardiovascular disease, 58 (7.29%) deaths caused by injuries, 160 (20.10%) deaths due to other causes, and 102 (12.81%) deaths due to unknown causes. The constituent ratio of deaths of malignant tumor, cardiovascular disease and other causes increased over time (trend χ2=1.92, P=0.028; trend χ2=2.81, P=0.003; trend χ2=2.07, P=0.020). There were differences in the distribution of death causes in HIV/AIDS cases in terms of age, occupation, marital status, ethnic group, educational level and mode of transmission (all P<0.05). The average age of the death cases due to cardiovascular disease was higher than other death cases, the cases who died from AIDS had shorter survival time and the lower initial CD4+T cells after confirmation compared with all other death cases, and the time interval from confirmation to treatment in HIV/AIDS patients with unknown death causes was longer than those of all other death cases (all P<0.05). Conclusions: The constituent ratio of non-AIDS related deaths in HIV/AIDS patients in Taizhou was relatively high and showed an upward trend during 1998-2022. It is necessary to further strengthen the early screening, prevention and treatment of chronic non infectious diseases.

Abstract
Biological agents have been widely used in the treatment of many clinical diseases by targeting specific immune cells or cytokines. In the course of clinical use, biological agents can lead to secondary immune deficiency, which increases the risk of infection. At present, there are no evidence-based guidelines or management opinions on the differences of infections caused by various biological agents, how to identify infectious complications in the course of treatment with different biological agents at an early stage, and how to take effective and targeted prevention. This paper summarizes the infection complications and their characteristics that need to be paid attention to in the clinical introduction of biological agents, aiming to help clinicians make reasonable decisions for infection complications in the process of using biological agents, reduce the incidence of infection, and improve the success rate of diagnosis and treatment.

Abstract
This analysis aims to see whether 6-shogaol could protect rats against D-galactosamine (D-GalN)-induced Hepatotoxicity. The Wistar rats were divided into four groups (n=6). Group 1 received a standard diet, Group 2 received an oral administration of 6-shogaol (20 mg/kg b.wt), Group 3 received an intraperitoneal injection of D-GalN (400 mg/kg b.wt) on 21st day, and Group 4 received an oral administration of 6-shogaol (20mg/kg b.wt) for 21 days and D-GalN (400 mg/kg b.wt) injection only on 21st day. The hepatic marker enzymes activity, lipid peroxidative markers level increased significantly and antioxidant activity/level significantly reduced in D-GalN-induced rats. 6-shogaol Pretreatment effectively improves the above changes in D-GalN-induced rats. Further, inflammatory marker expression and MAPK signaling molecules were downregulated by 6-shogaol. These findings showed that 6-shogaol exerts hepatoprotective effects via the enhanced antioxidant system and attenuated the inflammation and MAPK signaling pathway in D-GalN-induced rats.
