Abstract
AIMS The serine/arginine-rich splicing factor (SRSF) protein family members are essential mediators of the alternative splicing (AS) regulatory network, which is tightly implicated in cancer progression. However, the expression, clinical correlation, immune infiltration, and prognostic value of SRSFs in gliomas remain unclear. MATERIALS AND METHODS Glioma samples were extracted from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Chinese Glioma Genome Atlas (CGGA) datasets. Several databases, such as HPA, DAVID, UALCAN were used to comprehensively explore the roles of SRSFs. In addition, experimental validation of SRSF10 was also conducted. KEY FINDINGS Here, we found the expression alterations of the SRSF family in glioma samples using data from the TCGA and CGGA_325 datasets. Among the 12 genes, most were found to be closely associated with glioma clinical features, which linked to poor prognosis in glioma patients. Interestingly, survival analysis identified only SRSF10 as a potential independent risk prognostic biomarker for glioma patients. Immune analysis indicated that glioma patients with high SRSF10 expression may respond well to immunotherapies targeting immune checkpoint (ICP) genes. Finally, knocking down SRSF10 reduced glioma cell viability, induced G1 cell cycle arrest, and induced the exclusion of bcl-2-associated transcription factor 1 (BCLAF1) exon 5a. SIGNIFICANCE Overall, this study uncovers the oncogenic roles of most SRSF family members in glioma, with the exception of SRSF5, while highlighting SRSF10 as a potential novel independent prognostic biomarker for glioma.

Abstract
Objective The purpose of this article is to explore the effectiveness of B-Mode ultrasound as an auxiliary diagnostic tool for carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). It aims to demonstrate the advantages of B-Mode ultrasound, including its non-invasive nature and its ability to provide real-time imaging, in localizing nerve compression and predicting postoperative outcomes. Methods The study included 40 patients who were subjected to preoperative B-ultrasonography. The approach focused on evaluating the consistency of B-Mode ultrasound results with intraoperative findings. It also assessed the importance of employing standardized imaging techniques and emphasized the need for cooperation between hand surgeons and sonographers for accurate diagnosis. Results B-Mode ultrasound findings in the study were consistent with intraoperative observations, indicating its reliability. Additionally, B-Mode ultrasound was able to identify other anatomical abnormalities within the carpal canal that may contribute to CTS symptoms, such as persistent median arteries, median nerve bifurcation, and space-occupying lesions like cysts and tumors. Conclusion The article concludes that B-Mode ultrasound should be considered a valuable supplementary diagnostic tool for CTS, particularly in instances where clinical signs and electrophysiological studies do not offer clear results. However, it should not replace established diagnostic methods for CTS.

Abstract
Advancements in astronomical telescopes and cutting-edge technologies, including deep ultraviolet (DUV) and extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography, have escalated demands and imposed stringent surface quality requirements on optical system components. Achieving near-ideal optical components requires ultra-smooth surfaces with sub-nanometer roughness, no sub-surface damage, minimal surface defects, low residual stresses, and intact lattice integrity. This necessity has driven the rapid development and diversification of ultra-smooth surface fabrication technologies. This paper summarizes recent advances in ultra-smooth surface processing technologies, categorized by their material removal mechanisms. A subsequent comparative analysis evaluates the roughness and polishing characteristics of ultra-smooth surfaces processed on various materials, including fused silica, monocrystalline silicon, silicon carbide, and sapphire. To maximize each process's advantages and achieve higher-quality surfaces, the paper discusses tailored processing methods and iterations for different materials. Finally, the paper anticipates future development trends in response to current challenges in ultra-smooth surface processing technology, providing a systematic reference for the study of the production of large-sized freeform surfaces.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the effect of optimizing regional cerebral oxygen saturation (rScO2) on the incidence of postoperative delirium and surgical outcome in infants with congenital heart disease. METHODS Sixty-one infants experienced desaturation in rScO2 of 10% from baseline for more than 30 seconds during surgery between January 2020 and January 2022. Among them, 32 cases (Group A) received the corresponding treatment in the process of desaturation and 29 cases (Group B) were observed without receiving any treatment. General information, cerebral oxygen saturation, the incidence of postoperative delirium, and other relevant clinical data were collected. RESULTS The duration and severity of intraoperative rScO2 desaturation in Group A were significantly lower than those in Group B. The incidence of postoperative delirium in Group A was significantly lower than that in Group B. There was no significant difference in the positive screening score for delirium between the two groups. Binary logistic regression analysis showed that the aortic cross-clamp time, mechanical ventilation duration, and severity of intraoperative rScO2 desaturation were significantly correlated with the occurrence of postoperative delirium. CONCLUSION Aggressive rScO2 desaturation treatment is associated with a lower incidence of postoperative delirium and improved surgical outcomes.

Abstract
A photocurrent-polarity-switching photoelectrochemical (PEC) biosensor was developed for the ultrasensitive detection of tobramycin (TOB) through bipedal DNA walker amplification with hemin-induced photocurrent-polarity-switching using a laser-induced zinc oxide/graphene (ZnO/LIG) photoelectrode. Specifically, the ZnO/LIG photoelectrode was synthesized in situ by a laser direct writing (LDW) technique. In the presence of TOB, it reacted with HP1 and HP2 and the DNA walker response was activated to form a stable hemin/G-quadruplex. Furthermore, hemin induced a polarity shift in the photocurrent signal. The developed analytical platform exhibited excellent photoelectron transport performance of ZnO/LIG, the signal amplification effect of the DNA walker strategy, and the photocurrent-polarity-switching ability of hemin. Therefore, it demonstrated satisfying photocurrent responses to the target TOB within the working range of 20 nM-1.0 μM at a low detection limit of 5.43 nM. The PEC platform exhibited good stability, reproducibility, sufficient sensitivity and high selectivity for complex experimental samples. Moreover, the photocurrent-polarity-switching PEC biosensor improved the anti-interference ability and avoided false positives or negatives.

Abstract
Metal nanostructure arrays with large amounts of nano-gaps are important for surface enhanced Raman scattering applications, though the fabrications of such nanostructures are difficult due to the complex and multiple synthetic steps. In this research, we report silver nanostructure array patterns (SNAPs) on silicon wafer, which is fabricated with semiconductor manufacturing technology, Cu2O electrochemistry deposition, and Ag In-situ oxidation-reduction growth. Benefiting from the dense and uniform distribution of Ag nanowires, the fabricated SNAPs demonstrate a very strong and uniform surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) effect. The efficiency of SNAPs was investigated by using rhodamine 6G (R6G) dye as an analyte molecule. The results show that the minimum detectable concentration of R6G can reach as low as 10-11 M, and the Raman signals in the random region show good signal homogeneity with a low relative standard deviation (RSD) of 4.77 %. These results indicate that the SNAPs perform a great sensitivity and uniformity as a SERS substrate. Furthermore, we used the SNAPs substrate to detect antibiotic sulfadiazine. The main peaks in sulfadiazine Raman and vibration modes assignments were obtained and the quantitative analysis model was established by principal component analysis (PCA). The detection and application results of sulfadiazine indicate that the SNAPs substrate can be applied for trace detection of antibiotics. In addition, we have cited the application of the SNAPs substrate in anti-counterfeiting labels. These practical applications demonstrate that the fabricated SNAPs can potentially provide a way to develop low-cost SERS platforms for environmental detections, biomedicine analysis, and commodities anti-counterfeiting.

Abstract
Changes in protein abundance and reversible protein phosphorylation (RPP) play important roles in regulating hypometabolism but have never been documented in overwintering frogs at high altitudes. To test the hypothesis that protein abundance and phosphorylation change in response to winter hibernation, we conducted a comprehensive and quantitative proteomic and phosphoproteomic analysis of the liver of the Xizang plateau frog, Nanorana parkeri, living on the Qinghai-Xizang (Tibet) Plateau (QTP). In total, 5 170 proteins and 5 695 phosphorylation sites in 1 938 proteins were quantified. Based on proteomic analysis, 674 differentially expressed proteins (438 up-regulated, 236 down-regulated) were screened in hibernating N. parkeri versus summer individuals. Functional enrichment analysis revealed that higher expressed proteins in winter were significantly enriched in immune-related signaling pathways, whereas lower expressed proteins were mainly involved in metabolic processes. A total of 4 251 modified sites (4 147 up-regulated, 104 down-regulated) belonging to 1 638 phosphoproteins (1 555 up-regulated, 83 down-regulated) were significantly changed in the liver. During hibernation, RPP regulated a diverse array of proteins involved in multiple functions, including metabolic enzymatic activity, ion transport, protein turnover, signal transduction, and alternative splicing. These changes contribute to enhancing protection, suppressing energy-consuming processes, and inducing metabolic depression. Moreover, the activities of phosphofructokinase, glutamate dehydrogenase, and ATPase were all significantly lower in winter compared to summer. In conclusion, our results support the hypothesis and demonstrate the importance of RPP as a regulatory mechanism when animals transition into a hypometabolic state.

Abstract
Wound dressings play an important role in wound healing. However, many wound dressings lack antibacterial properties and are difficult to remove from newly grown tissues, causing secondary wound injuries and repeated medical treatment. This study reports a new type of thermal-responsive hydrogel dressing consisting of vancomycin-loaded gelatin nanospheres (GNs) and poly((N-isopropylacrylamide)-co-N-(methylol acrylamide)) functional components that could impart self-peeling and sustainable antibacterial properties. SEM images showed that the prepared hydrogel possessed a porous microstructure and the homogeneous distribution of GNs in its network. Excellent swelling ratios and thermal-induced self-peeling characteristics were confirmed by qualitative analysis. The GNs not only enhanced the strain at break of the hydrogel, but also acted as drug carriers to slow down the drug release from the hydrogel, achieving sustainable antibacterial properties and balanced biocompatibility. Therefore, this vancomycin-loaded hydrogel with self-peeling characteristics provides an effective way of preventing wound infection and can be used as a novel platform for wide-ranging applications of wound dressings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Gastric cancer (GC) constitutes a major global health problem, of which remnant gastric cancer (RGC) occurs less frequently. The rate of RGCs after gastrectomy for GC is increasing recently due to improved survival and screening, however, their incidence and risk have not been reported in the U.S. POPULATION The objective of this study was to evaluate the incidence and elevated risk of RGC after GC gastrectomy in this population, and to identify the risk factors. METHODS Patients underwent gastrectomy for first primary GC in 2000-2015 and those who developed RGC were identified from Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database. Fine-Gray regression was used to estimate the cumulative incidence and to identify risk factors. Standardized incidence ratios (SIRs) were calculated by Poisson regression to compare the risk with the general population. RESULTS Among 21,566 patients included in the cohort, 227 developed RGC. The 20-year cumulative incidence of RGC was 1.88%. Multivariate analysis revealed that older age, invasion depth, male sex, marital status, and lower income are independent risk factors for RGC development. SIR was 7.70 overall and > 4.5 in each stratum. CONCLUSIONS Cumulative incidence and risk for RGCs increased continuously in patients underwent GC gastrectomy. Close and lifelong endoscopy surveillance should be recommended for patients who received GC gastrectomy, especially those with high-risk factors.

Abstract
Artificial photoenzymatic systems based on covalent organic frameworks (COFs) provide an interesting platform for converting CO2 to value-added fuels. However, the dual roles of COFs as photocatalysts and enzyme hosts showcase contradictory preferences for structures, which poses a great challenge for their rational design. Herein, we report the collaborative matching of linkages and linkers in COFs on their ability to exert both photocatalytic activity and enzyme loading, which has been neglected until now. The linkage-dependent linker regulation pattern was elucidated, and the optimal match showed a record-breaking apparent quantum efficiency at 420 nm for photocatalytic cofactor regeneration of 13.95% with a high turnover frequency of 5.3 mmol g-1 h-1, outperforming other reported crystalline framework photocatalysts. Moreover, theoretical calculations and experiments revealed the mechanism underlying the effects of matching the linkage and linker on exciton dissociation and charge migration in photocatalysis. This newfound understanding enabled the construction of COFs with both high photoactivity and large pores closer in size to the formate dehydrogenase, achieving high loading capacity and a suitable confinement effect. Remarkably, the artificial photoenzymatic system constructed according to optimal linkage-linker matching exhibited highly efficient CO2 reduction, yielding formic acid with a specific activity as high as 1.46 mmol g-1 catalyst h-1 and good reusability, paving the way for sustainable CO2 conversion driven by visible light.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the clinical characteristics of patients with common cardiovascular diseases (CVD, including hypertension, coronary heart disease, atrial fibrillation, and heart failure) combined with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and explore the potential risk factors of MCI in patients with CVD. Methods: A total of 2 294 patients with common cardiovascular diseases who met the criteria at Cardiology Medical Center in Beijing Anzhen Hospital, Capital Medical University, from June 1, 2021, to January 5, 2022, were retrospectively included. The patients were divided into the normal cognitive function group (1 107 cases) and the MCI group (1 187 cases). Demographic information and CVD status were collected. The information of cognitive function were collected using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) and the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) scales. The difference between normal cognitive function and MCI were compared and analyzed. The logistic regression analysis was used to explored risk factors of MCI in CVD patients. Results: A total of 2 294 patients aged (60.6±10.4) years were included, among whom there were 29.99% (688 cases) females. Compared with patients in the normal cognitive function group, patients in the MCI group were older [ (57.9±11.4) vs (63.1±8.9) years old, P<0.001], with a higher proportion of women [26.47% (293 cases) vs 33.28% (395 cases), P<0.001]; there was a higher proportion of patients suffering from hypertension in the MCI group [59.62% (660 cases) vs 64.62% (767 cases), P=0.014], and more components of CVD [(1.68±0.62) vs (1.74±0.65) components, P=0.017]. The risk factors of MCI in patients with common CVD were increased age, increased depression score, combined with hypertension, and ≥3 common components of CVD, with OR (95%CI) of 1.043 (1.032-1.054), 1.021 (1.004-1.037), 1.151 (1.142-3.439), and 1.137 (1.023-1.797), respectively (all P values <0.05). Increasing education level was observed to be associated with reduced risk of MCI with OR (95%CI) of 0.319 (0.271-0.378) (P<0.05). Conclusions: The incidence of MCI was high in CVD patients. The risk factors of MCI in CVD patients included hypertension and≥3 common components of CVD.

Abstract
Ideal plant architecture is essential for enhancing crop yields. Ideal soybean (Glycine max) architecture encompasses an appropriate plant height, increased node number, moderate seed weight, and compact architecture with smaller branch angles for growth under high-density planting. However, the functional genes regulating plant architecture are far not fully understood in soybean. In this study, we investigated the genetic basis of 12 agronomic traits in a panel of 496 soybean accessions with a wide geographical distribution in China. Analysis of phenotypic changes in 148 historical elite soybean varieties indicated that seed-related traits have mainly been improved over the past 60 years, with targeting plant architecture traits having the potential to further improve yields in future soybean breeding programs. In a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of 12 traits, we detected 169 significantly associated loci, of which 61 overlapped with previously reported loci and 108 new loci. By integrating the GWAS loci for different traits, we constructed a genetic association network and identified 90 loci that were associated with a single trait and 79 loci with pleiotropic effects. Of these 79 loci, 7 hub-nodes were strongly linked to at least three related agronomic traits. qHub_5, containing the previously characterized Determinate 1 (Dt1) locus, was associated not only with plant height and node number (as determined previously), but also with internode length and pod range. Furthermore, we identified qHub_7, which controls three branch angle-related traits; the candidate genes in this locus may be beneficial for breeding soybean with compact architecture. These findings provide insights into the genetic relationships among 12 important agronomic traits in soybean. In addition, these studies uncover valuable loci for further functional gene studies and will facilitate molecular design breeding of soybean architecture.

Abstract
The limited efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in the treatment of advanced Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma (ESCC) poses a challenge. Recent evidence suggests that tumor cells' insensitivity to cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) contributes to drug resistance against ICIs. Here, a particular tRNA-derived fragment called tRF-3024b has been identified as playing a significant role in tumor cell resistance to CTLs. Through tRF sequencing (tRF-seq), we observed a high expression of tRF-3024b in ESCC cells that survived co-culture with CTLs. Further in vitro studies demonstrated that tRF-3024b reduced the apoptosis of tumor cells when co-cultured with CTLs. The mechanism behind this resistance involves tRF-3024b promoting the expression of B-cell lymphoma-2 (BCL-2) by sequestering miR-192-5p, a microRNA that would normally inhibit BCL-2 expression. This means that tRF-3024b indirectly enhances the protective effects of BCL-2, reducing apoptosis in tumor cells. Rescue assays confirmed that the suppressive function of tRF-3024b relies on BCL-2. In summary, the tRF-3024b/miR-192-5p/BCL-2 axis sheds light on the crucial role of tRF-3024b in regulating BCL-2 expression. These findings offer valuable insights into strategies to enhance the response of ESCC to CTLs and improve the effectiveness of immunotherapy approaches in treating ESCC.

Abstract
Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) has been increasingly used in the analysis of ophthalmic diseases in recent years. Automatic vessel segmentation in 2D OCTA projection images is commonly used in clinical practice. However, OCTA provides a 3D volume of the retinal blood vessels with rich spatial distribution information, and it is incomplete to segment retinal vessels only in 2D projection images. Here, considering that it is difficult to manually label 3D vessels, we introduce a 3D vessel segmentation and reconstruction method for OCTA images with only 2D vessel labels. We implemented 3D vessel segmentation in the OCTA volume using a specially trained 2D vessel segmentation model. The 3D vessel segmentation results are further used to calculate 3D vessel parameters and perform 3D reconstruction. The experimental results on the public dataset OCTA-500 demonstrate that 3D vessel parameters have higher sensitivity to vascular alteration than 2D vessel parameters, which makes it meaningful for clinical analysis. The 3D vessel reconstruction provides vascular visualization in different retinal layers that can be used to monitor the development of retinal diseases. Finally, we also illustrate the use of 3D reconstruction results to determine the relationship between the location of arteries and veins.

Abstract
Anguillid herpesvirus 1 (AngHV), the causative agent of "mucus sloughing and hemorrhagic septicemia disease", causes serious infectious diseases in farmed eel. Among the effective prevention and control strategies, vaccination is one of the most effective approaches. However, no vaccine for AngHV is available. Our study developed a formalin-inactivated AngHV vaccine and evaluated its performance in American eels. Initially, AngHV-FJ, a strain of AngHV, was inactivated completely by 0.1 % formaldehyde, mixed with adjuvant Montanide ISA 763 A VG (763A). Then, vaccines containing different amount of antigen (3 × 106 PFU, 3 × 105 PFU, 3 × 104 PFU, 3 × 103 PFU) were immunized in each American eels. The results showed that the 3 × 105 PFU/fish was the proper dose. The inactivated AngHV vaccine was proven safe for American eels by back intramuscular injection. The results of twice immunization showed that antibody production peaked in the 8th week after the first immunization, and the antibody titer was 1:64,000. Furthermore, the immunized fishes challenged with AngHV (105 PFU/ml immersion) showed a significantly lower incidence rate (33.33 %) than the control group (95.65 %). The survival of the fish in the vaccine group (94.44 %) was significantly higher than the control group (60.87 %). The relative survival rate of the vaccinated group was 85.80 %. Also, vaccine group tissue collected at 7th d post-challenge showed reduced tissue damage and a lower virus load than the control group. The expression of cytokines of IL-1β, IFN-α, IFN-γ, Mx1, RIG-1, and IRF-3, were significantly lower in the vaccine group than the control group at the 7th and 14th d post-challenge. Overall, the formalin-inactivated AngHV vaccine was safe and had immune protective effects against AngHV infection.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Robot-assisted gait training (RAGT) has been reported to treat motor dysfunction in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) in the last few years. However, the benefits of RAGT for treating motor dysfunction in PD are still unclear. OBJECTIVES To investigate the efficacy of RAGT for motor dysfunction in PD patients. METHODS We searched PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Embase, CNKI, Wanfang, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database (CBM), and Chinese VIP Database for randomized controlled trials investigating RAGT to improve motor dysfunction in PD from the databases' inception dates until September 1, 2022. The following outcome indexes were employed to evaluate motor dysfunction: the Berg Balance Scale (BBS), Activities-specific Balance Confidence Scale (ABC), 10-Meter Walk Test gait speed (10-MWT), gait speed, stride length, cadence Unified Parkinson Disease Rating Scale Part III (UPDRS III), 6-Minute Walk Test (6MWT), and the Timed Up and Go test (TUG). The meta-analysis was performed using the proper randomeffect model or fixed-effect model to evaluate the difference in efficacy between the RAGT and the control groups. The Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool was used for the included studies and Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluations (GRADE) was used to interpret the certainty of the results. RESULTS The results consisted of 17 studies comprising a total of 670 participants. Six hundred and seven PD patients with motor dysfunction were included: 335 in the RAGT group and 335 in the control group. This meta-analysis results established that when compared with the control group, robot-assisted gait training improved the BBS results of PD patients (MD: 2.80, 95%CI: 2.11-3.49, P< 0.00001), ABC score (MD: 7.30, 95%CI: 5.08-9.52, P< 0.00001), 10-MWT (MD: 0.06, 95%CI: 0.03-0.10, P= 0.0009), gait speed (MD: 3.67, 95%CI: 2.58-4.76, P< 0.00001), stride length (MD: 5.53, 95%CI: 3.64-7.42, P< 0.00001), cadence (MD: 4.52, 95%CI: 0.94-8.10, P= 0.01), UPDRS III (MD: -2.16, 95%CI: -2.48--1.83, P< 0.00001), 6MWT (MD: 13.87, 95%CI: 11.92-15.82, P< 0.00001). However, RAGT did not significantly improve the TUG test result of patients with PD (MD =-0.56, 95% CI: -1.12-0.00, P= 0.05). No safety concerns or adverse reactions among robot-assisted gait training patients were observed. CONCLUSION Even though RAGT can improve balance function, walking function, and gait performance and has demonstrated positive results in several studies, there is currently insufficient compelling evidence to suggest that it can improve all aspects of lower motor function.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is considered an efficient and life-saving treatment for neonatal severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Bedside lung ultrasound (LUS) is an attractive and feasible method for evaluating neonatal ARDS. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the value of LUS score at veno-arterial (V-A) ECMO withdrawal in neonatal patients with severe acute ARDS. METHODS A retrospective preliminary study was conducted in our cardiac intensive care unit from June 2021 to June 2022. Eight severe ARDS neonates who received V-A ECMO were enroled in this study. LUS was measured daily during ECMO and when weaning off ECMO. The relationships between the LUS score and ECMO parameters (blood flow and the sweep gas of FiO2) were assessed. RESULTS (1) There was a significant improvement in LUS score by ECMO treatment. And, various diagnostic signs of lung ultrasound were detected during ECMO, including pulmonary edema (7 neonates) and lung consolidation (4 neonates), followed by pleural effusion (1 neonate) and bilateral white lung (1 neonate). (2) A total of 12 trials for weaning off ECMO were carried out, of which four failed, but all eight neonates finally succeeded in passing the weaning trial. LUS score of 21 or less was defined as a cut-off value for predicting ECMO weaning success. During ECMO treatment, LUS score was positively correlated with ECMO blood flow (r = 0.866, P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS LUS can be used to evaluate the various lung diagnostic signs in ARDS neonatal patients during ECMO treatment, and the LUS score under ECMO treatment decreases over time. The reduction in LUS score is associated with lower ECMO blood flow. LUS score is regarded as a predictor of ECMO weaning success.

Abstract
Adding dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) to vascular endothelial cell-formed vessel-like structures can increase the longevity of these vessel networks. DPSCs display pericyte-like cell functions and closely assemble endothelial cells (ECs). However, the mechanisms of DPSC-derived pericyte-like cells in stabilizing the vessel networks are not fully understood. In this study, we investigated the functions of E-DPSCs, which were DPSCs isolated from the direct coculture of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and DPSCs, and T-DPSCs, which were DPSCs treated by transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF-β1), in stabilizing blood vessels in vitro and in vivo. A 3-dimensional coculture spheroid sprouting assay was conducted to compare the functions of E-DPSCs and T-DPSCs in vitro. Dental pulp angiogenesis in the severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) mouse model was used to explore the roles of E-DPSCs and T-DPSCs in vascularization in vivo. The results demonstrated that both E-DPSCs and T-DPSCs possess smooth muscle cell-like cell properties, exhibiting higher expression of the mural cell-specific markers and the suppression of HUVEC sprouting. E-DPSCs and T-DPSCs inhibited HUVEC sprouting by activating TEK tyrosine kinase (Tie2) signaling, upregulating vascular endothelial (VE)-cadherin, and downregulating vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2). In vivo study revealed more perfused and total blood vessels in the HUVEC + E-DPSC group, HUVEC + T-DPSC group, angiopoietin 1 (Ang1) pretreated group, and vascular endothelial protein tyrosine phosphatase (VE-PTP) inhibitor pretreated group, compared to HUVEC + DPSC group. In conclusion, these data indicated that E-DPSCs and T-DPSCs could stabilize the newly formed blood vessels and accelerate their perfusion. The critical regulating pathways are Ang1/Tie2/VE-cadherin and VEGF/VEGFR2 signaling.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) measured at multiple exhalation flow rates can be used as a biomarker to differentiate central and peripheral airway inflammation. However, the role of alveolar nitric oxide (CaNO) indicating peripheral airway inflammation remains unclear in gastroesophageal reflux-associated cough (GERC). OBJECTIVES We aimed to characterize the changes in alveolar nitric oxide (CaNO) and determine its clinical implication in GERC. DESIGN This is a single-center prospective observational study. METHODS FeNOs at exhalation flow rates of 50 and 200 ml/s were measured in 102 patients with GERC and 134 patients with other causes of chronic cough (non-GERC). CaNO was calculated based on a two-compartment model and the factors associated with CaNO were analyzed. The effect of anti-reflux therapy on CaNO was examined in 26 GERC patients with elevated CaNO. RESULTS CaNO was significantly elevated in GERC compared with that in non-GERC (4.6 ± 4.4 ppb versus 2.8 ± 2.3 ppb, p < 0.001). GERC patients with high CaNO (>5 ppb) had more proximal reflux events (24 ± 15 versus 9 ± 9 episodes, p = 0.001) and a higher level of pepsin (984.8 ± 492.5 versus 634.5 ± 626.4 pg/ml, p = 0.002) in sputum supernatant than those with normal CaNO. More GERC patients with high CaNO required intensified anti-reflux therapy (χ2 = 3.963, p = 0.046), as predicted by a sensitivity of 41.7% and specificity of 83.3%. Cough relief paralleled a significant improvement in CaNO (8.3 ± 3.0 versus 4.8 ± 2.6 ppb, p < 0.001). CONCLUSION Peripheral airway inflammation can be assessed by CaNO measurement in GERC. High CaNO indicates potential micro-aspiration and may predict a necessity for intensified anti-reflux therapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A range of studies concerning the effects of breathing exercises on chronic low back pain (CLBP) have been proven inconclusive. OBJECTIVE The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of breathing exercises for the treatment of CLBP. METHODS We considered randomized controlled trials in English or Chinese that used breathing exercises for the treatment of CLBP. An electronic search was performed in the MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, CNKI, Wan Fang, and CBM databases for articles published up to November 2022. Two reviewers independently screened the articles, assessed the risk of bias using the Cochrane risk of bias tool, and extracted the data. The outcomes included pain, lumbar function and pulmonary function post-intervention. RESULTS A total of thirteen studies (n= 677) satisfied the inclusion criteria. The meta-analysis results demonstrated a significant effect of breathing exercises on the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) score (SMD =-0.84, 95% CI: -1.24 to -0.45, P< 0.0001), the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) score (SMD =-0.74, 95% CI: -0.95 to -0.54, P< 0.00001), Forced Vital Capacity (FVC) score (MD = 0.24, 95% CI: 0.10 to 0.37, P= 0.0006), Forced Expiratory Volume in 1 second /Forced Vital Capacity (FEV1/FVC) (MD = 1.90, 95% CI: 0.73 to 3.07, P= 0.001), although there was no significant difference between the breathing exercises and control interventions for Forced Expiratory Volume in the first second (FEV1) score (MD = 0.22, 95% CI = [0.00, 0.43], P= 0.05), and Maximal Voluntary Ventilation (MVV) score (MD = 8.22, 95% CI = [-4.02, 20.45], P= 0.19). CONCLUSION Breathing exercises can reduce pain, assist people with lumbar disabilities, and improve pulmonary function, and could be considered as a potential alternative treatment for CLBP.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE One of the important causes of death in cancer patients is malignant metastasis, invasion, and metastasis of tumor cells. Metastasis is also the most basic physiological characteristics and pathogenesis of various tumors. Previously published studies have suggested that autocrine motor factor receptor (AMFR) is the key regulator of tumor cell migration and invasion. Meanwhile, AMFR is highly expressed in esophageal tumors, gastrointestinal tumors, and bladder cancer, and it is also involved in its pathogenesis. However, the role of AMFR in glioblastoma has not been reported. METHODS In order to study the role of AMFR in the cell migration and invasion of glioblastoma, AMFR was silenced using siRNA and overexpressed using cDNA. Immunoblotting analysis and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) were employed to assess the expression of AMFR. We conducted wound healing assay, cell migration assay, and tumorsphere formation assay to detect the invasion and metastatic ability of glioblastoma. RESULTS This study found that the level of AMFR expression was significantly correlated with the malignant degree of glioma tissue in clinic samples. AMFR silencing decreased cell migration and invasion of LN229. Overexpression of AMFR significantly increased cell migration and invasion of U251. CONCLUSION This study suggests that AMFR could be used as a therapeutic strategy for the clinical treatment of glioblastoma.

Abstract
The bridging integrator 1 (BIN1) gene is an important risk locus for late-onset Alzheimer's disease (AD). BIN1 protein has been reported to mediate tau pathology, but the underlying molecular mechanisms remain elusive. Here, we show that neuronal BIN1 is cleaved by the cysteine protease legumain at residues N277 and N288. The legumain-generated BIN1 (1-277) fragment is detected in brain tissues from AD patients and tau P301S transgenic mice. This fragment interacts with tau and accelerates its aggregation. Furthermore, the BIN1 (1-277) fragment promotes the propagation of tau aggregates by enhancing clathrin-mediated endocytosis (CME). Overexpression of the BIN1 (1-277) fragment in tau P301S mice facilitates the propagation of tau pathology, inducing cognitive deficits, while overexpression of mutant BIN1 that blocks its cleavage by legumain halts tau propagation. Furthermore, blocking the cleavage of endogenous BIN1 using the CRISPR/Cas9 gene-editing tool ameliorates tau pathology and behavioral deficits. Our results demonstrate that the legumain-mediated cleavage of BIN1 plays a key role in the progression of tau pathology. Inhibition of legumain-mediated BIN1 cleavage may be a promising therapeutic strategy for treating AD.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the changes in intestinal flora in infants with ventricular septal defect (VSD) after cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) surgery and their potential relationship with postoperative gastrointestinal function recovery. Fecal samples of 20 infants with VSD were collected before and after CPB surgery at our hospital from September 2021 to March 2022. 16S rRNA was used to detect and analyze the fecal samples. The most abundant intestinal microbes in the preoperative intestinal flora were Enterococcus (37.14%), Bifidobacterium (20.71%), Shigella (8.15%), Streptococcus (5.19%), Lactobacillus (3.7%), Rothia (2.22%). However, the most abundant intestinal microbes in the postoperative intestinal flora were Enterococcus (49.63%), Bifidobacterium (12.59%), Shigella (10.37%), Streptococcus (8.14%), Rothia (4.43%). The diversity and species richness of intestinal flora after CPB surgery were significantly lower than those preoperatively. The intestinal Enterococcus content in patients with postoperative gastrointestinal dysfunction was significantly higher than that in patients without gastrointestinal dysfunction (P < 0.05). Intestinal Bifidobacterium content in patients with postoperative gastrointestinal dysfunction was significantly lower than that in patients without gastrointestinal dysfunction (P < 0.05). After surgery, the content of intestinal Enterococcus was negatively correlated with the full feeding time, and the content of intestinal Bifidobacterium was positively correlated with full feeding time. After CPB surgery, the diversity and richness of intestinal flora decreased, intestinal pathogenic bacteria increased, and beneficial intestinal bacteria decreased. An increase in Enterococcus and decrease in Bifidobacterium can increase the incidence of gastrointestinal dysfunction and prolong the recovery time of gastrointestinal function.

Abstract
AIM To investigate the value of non-contrast CT (NCCT)-based two-dimensional (2D) radiomics features in predicting haematoma expansion (HE) after spontaneous intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH) and compare its predictive ability with the three-dimensional (3D) signature. MATERIALS AND METHODS Three hundred and seven ICH patients who received baseline NCCT within 6 h of ictus from two stroke centres were analysed retrospectively. 2D and 3D radiomics features were extracted in the manner of one-to-one correspondence. The 2D and 3D models were generated by four different machine-learning algorithms (regularised L1 logistic regression, decision tree, support vector machine and AdaBoost), and the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to compare their predictive performance. A robustness analysis was performed according to baseline haematoma volume. RESULTS Each feature type of 2D and 3D modalities used for subsequent analyses had excellent consistency (mean ICC >0.9). Among the different machine-learning algorithms, pairwise comparison showed no significant difference in both the training (mean area under the ROC curve [AUC] 0.858 versus 0.802, all p>0.05) and validation datasets (mean AUC 0.725 versus 0.678, all p>0.05), and the 10-fold cross-validation evaluation yielded similar results. The AUCs of the 2D and 3D models were comparable either in the binary or tertile volume analysis (all p>0.5). CONCLUSION NCCT-derived 2D radiomics features exhibited acceptable and similar performance to the 3D features in predicting HE, and this comparability seemed unaffected by initial haematoma volume. The 2D signature may be preferred in future HE-related radiomic works given its compatibility with emergency condition of ICH.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE A retrospective study was conducted to explore the efficacy of bioabsorbable poly-L-lactic acid sternal pins in sternal closure in infants after cardiac surgery. METHODS A total of 170 infantile patients who underwent cardiac surgery were divided into the steel wire group (group A), the PDS cord group (group B), and the steel wire + sternal pin group (group C). The occurrence of the thoracic deformity was evaluated by vertebral index (VI), frontosagittal index (FSI), and Haller index (HI) values; the stability of the sternum was evaluated by detecting sternal dehiscence and displacement. RESULTS By comparing the absolute values of the differences in VI, FSI, and HI in the three groups, it was found that the difference values of VI and HI in group C were significantly lower than those in group B (p = 0.028 and 0.005). For the highest deformation index, the deformation rate of infants in group C before discharge and during the 1-year follow-up was lower than that in group A and group B (p = 0.009 and 0.002, respectively). The incidence of sternal displacement in group C was also significantly lower than that in groups A and B (p = 0.009 and 0.009). During the 1-year follow-up, there was no sternal dehiscence, and the sternum healed completely in the three groups. CONCLUSION The use of "steel wire + sternal pin" for sternal closure in infants after cardiac surgery can reduce the occurrence of sternal deformity, reduce anterior and posterior displacement of the sternum, and improve sternal stability.

Abstract
Mumps reemergence has been reported in developed countries with high levels of two-dose mumps-containing vaccine (MuCV) coverage. The effectiveness of the two-dose MuCV may be compromised by limitations in the persistence of immunity. This prospective cohort study evaluated the persistence of immunity of a two-dose MuCV in children aged 3-7 years from 2015 to 2020. Persistence of antibody to mumps, determined as the geometric mean antibody concentration (GMC), and seropositivity were analyzed for both repeated measurements from three follow-ups and on each cross-section, respectively. A total of 105 eligible subjects were recruited. Their overall seropositivity rate was relatively high and stable (92.4%-84.8%), while the overall GMC decreased from 547.6 U/ml to 333.3 U/ml. Analysis of waning immunity in 91 participants showed a significant and consistent downward trend for GMC, which differed significantly in boys and girls. The overall seropositivity rate decreased slightly from 2015 (95.6%) to 2016 (92.3%) but both were significantly higher than in 2018 (84.6%). The rates in girls remained stable, while those in boys declined to 75% in 2018. The seropositivity rate of the cross-section level decreased from 95.4% to 86.4% in 4 years. Although two-dose MuCV may result in a high level of immunity, antibody concentrations decay over 2 years after the second dose. Children with waning immunity after receiving two doses, especially boys, require further surveillance at 4 years and later to avoid future mumps epidemics.Clinical trial registration: NCT02901990.

Abstract
Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is the leading cause of death worldwide. Ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury is considered the most common contributor to AMI. Hirsutine has been shown to protect cardiomyocytes against hypoxic injury. The present study investigated whether hirsutine improved AMI induced by I/R injury and the underlying mechanisms. In our study, we used a rat model of myocardial I/R injury. The rats were given hirsutine daily (5, 10, 20 mg/kg) by gavage for 15 days before the myocardial I/R injury. Detectable changes were observed in myocardial infarct size, mitochondrial function, histological damage, and cardiac cell apoptosis. According to our findings, hirsutine pre-treatment reduced the myocardial infarct size, enhanced cardiac function, inhibited cell apoptosis, reduced the tissue lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) content, as well as enhanced myocardial ATP content and mitochondrial complex activity. In addition, hirsutine balanced mitochondrial dynamics by increasing Mitofusin2 (Mfn2) expression while decreasing dynamin-related protein 1 phosphorylation (p-Drp1), which was partially regulated by ROS and calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II phosphorylation (p-CaMKII). Mechanistically, hirsutine inhibited mitochondrial-mediated apoptosis during I/R injury by blocking the AKT/ASK-1/p38 MAPK pathway. This present study provides a promising therapeutic intervention for myocardial I/R injury.

Abstract
MXene is widely used in the construction of optoelectronic interfaces due to its excellent properties. However, the hydrophilicity and metastable surface of MXene lead to its oxidation behavior, resulting in the degradation of its various properties, which seriously limits its practical application. In this work, a 2D metal-organic framework (2D MOF) with matching 2D morphology, excellent stability performance, and outstanding optoelectronic performance is grown in situ on the MXene surface through heterojunction engineering to suppress the direct contact between reactive molecules and the inner layer material without affecting the original advantages of MXene. The photoelectric dual gain MXene@MOF heterojunction is confirmed. As a photoelectric material, its properties are highly suitable for the demand of interface sensitization layer materials of surface plasmon resonance (SPR). Therefore, using SPR as a platform for the application of this interface material, the performance of MXene@MOF and its potential mechanism to enhance SPR are analyzed in depth using experiments combined with simulation calculations (FDTD/DFT). Finally, the MXene@MOF/peptides-SPR sensor is constructed for rapid and sensitive detection of the cancer marker exosomes to explore its potential in practical applications. This work offers a forward-looking strategy for the design of interface materials with excellent photoelectric performance.

Abstract
In this work, squeeze casting experiments of flywheel housing components with a large wall thickness difference and a complex shape were carried out with AlSi9Mg aluminum alloy. The defects, microstructures, and mechanical properties under different process parameters were investigated. Furthermore, the local pressurization process was applied to the thick-walled positions to force-feed the cast defects. The mechanical properties and microstructures at these positions were analyzed. The results showed that the surface quality of formed components was good and that local pressurization could effectively reduce the shrinkage cavity and shrinkage porosity in thick walls, but the scope and effect of forced feeding were limited. The optimum process parameters were a pouring temperature of 650 °C, a specific pressure of 48 MPa, a mold temperature of 220 °C, a local pressurization of 800 MPa, and pressure delay times of 15 s (side A) and 17 s (side B). The ultimate tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation of the formed component under validation experiments of the optimum process parameters were 201 MPa, 103 MPa, and 5.1%. Meanwhile, the fine grains of primary α-Al were mainly rosette and equiaxed grains, and the average grain size was about 40 μm. The microstructure of the eutectic silicon was acicular and was prone to segregation under pressure. According to profile morphology, the positions after pressurization were divided into a deformation zone, a direct action zone, and an indirect action zone. The coexistence of as-cast and plastic deformation microstructures was observed. The effect of local pressurization mainly involved a change in the solidification process, plastic deformation, and forced feeding.

Abstract
Converting carbon dioxide (CO2 ) into fuel and high-value-added chemicals is considered a green and effective way to solve global energy and environmental problems. Covalent triazine frameworks (CTFs) are extensively utilized as an emerging catalyst for photo/electrocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction (CO2 RR) recently recognized for their distinctive qualities, including excellent thermal and chemical stability, π-conjugated structure, rich nitrogen content, and a strong affinity for CO2 , etc. Nevertheless, single-component CTFs have the problems of accelerated recombination of photoexcited electron-hole pairs and restricted conductivity, which limit their application for photo/electrocatalytic CO2 RR. Therefore, emphasis will then summarize the strategies for enhancing the photocatalytic and electrocatalytic efficiency of CTFs for CO2 RR in this paper, including atom doping, constructing a heterojunction structure, etc. This review first illustrates the synthesis strategies of CTFs and the advantages of CTFs in the field of photo/electrocatalytic CO2 RR. Subsequently, the mechanism of CTF-based materials in photo/electrocatalytic CO2 RR is described. Lastly, the challenges and future prospects of CTFs in photo/electrocatalytic CO2 RR are addressed, which offers a fresh perspective for the future development of CTFs in photo/electrocatalytic CO2 RR.

Abstract
Synthetic astaxanthin is an effective nutritional strategy for improving shrimp body color and promoting growth. However, the optimal amount of astaxanthin in feed also varies with the synthetic technology and purity. In the present study, five diets containing different doses of synthetic astaxanthin (0% (CON), 0.02% (AX0.02), 0.04% (AX0.04), 0.08% (AX0.08), and 0.16% (AX0.16)) were administered to Penaeus monodon (initial body weight: 0.3 ± 0.03 g) for 8 weeks. With an increase in astaxanthin content in feed, weight gain and specific growth rate increased initially and subsequently decreased, with the highest value appearing at AX0.08. Dietary astaxanthin supplementation obviously improved the carapace and muscle color by enhancing astaxanthin pigmentation. Meanwhile, the fatty acid profile was altered by dietary astaxanthin, as evidenced by a decline in palmitic acid proportion, along with an increase in n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFA) contents in muscle. In addition, dietary astaxanthin supplementation regulated prawn's antioxidant capacity. In the hemolymph, the activities of glutamic pyruvic transaminase (GPT) showed a significantly decrease trend with linear effect. The activities of glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT) and the contents of malondialdehyde (MDA) were first downregulated and then upregulated with significantly quadratic pattern. In the hepatopancreas, the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and the contents of MDA were significantly downregulated with the increase of dietary astaxanthin levels. Reduced glutathione (GSH) contents and catalase (CAT) activities were also significantly decreased in group AX0.08. Correspondingly, astaxanthin decreased GSH and MDA contents under transportation stress. Moreover, the mRNA expression of immune genes (traf6, relish, and myd88) were inhibited by dietary astaxanthin supplementation. Based on the results of polynomial contrasts analysis and Duncan's test, dietary synthetic astaxanthin is a suitable feed additive to improve the growth, body color, antioxidant capacity, and nonspecific immunity of P. monodon. According to the second-order polynomial regression analysis based on the weight gain, the optimal supplementation level of dietary astaxanthin was 90 mg kg-1 in P. monodon.

Abstract
In response to the persistent exposure to phage infection, bacteria have evolved diverse antiviral defense mechanisms. In this study, we report a bacterial two-component defense system consisting of a Sir2 NADase and a HerA helicase. Cryo-electron microscopy reveals that Sir2 and HerA assemble into a ∼1 MDa supramolecular octadecamer. Unexpectedly, this complex exhibits various enzymatic activities, including ATPase, NADase, helicase, and nuclease, which work together in a sophisticated manner to fulfill the antiphage function. Therefore, we name this defense system "Nezha" after a divine warrior in Chinese mythology who employs multiple weapons to defeat enemies. Our findings demonstrate that Nezha could sense phage infections, self-activate to arrest cell growth, eliminate phage genomes, and subsequently deactivate to allow for cell recovery. Collectively, Nezha represents a paradigm of sophisticated and multifaceted strategies bacteria use to defend against viral infections.

Abstract
Natural attenuation is widely adopted as a remediation strategy, and the attenuation potential is crucial to evaluate whether remediation goals can be achieved within the specified time. In this work, long-term monitoring of indigenous microbial communities as well as benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene (BTEX) and chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons (CAHs) in groundwater was conducted at a historic pesticide manufacturing site. A machine learning approach for natural attenuation prediction was developed with random forest classification (RFC) followed by either random forest regression (RFR) or artificial neural networks (ANNs), utilizing microbiological information and contaminant attenuation rates for model training and cross-validation. Results showed that the RFC could accurately predict the feasibility of natural attenuation for both BTEX and CAHs, and it could successfully identify the key genera. The RFR model was sufficient for the BTEX natural attenuation rate prediction but unreliable for CAHs. The ANN model showed better performance in the prediction of the attenuation rates for both BTEX and CAHs. Based on the assessments, a composite modeling method of RFC and ANN was proposed, which could reduce the mean absolute percentage errors. This study reveals that the combined machine learning approach under the synergistic use of field microbial data has promising potential for predicting natural attenuation.

Methods: A total of 546 residual sodium citrate anticoagulated plasma samples (530 of which were used for comparability validation and 16 for sample preparation of other validation components) were selected after the completion of clinical testing at Peking Union Medical College Hospital from Jun 2022 to May 2023. According to the American Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) guidelines, national health industry standards and relevant references, the performance of ADX D-dimer used in Sysmex CS 5100 fully automated coagulation analyzer which included accuracy, precision, linear range, carryover rate, interference resistance capability and reference interval were validated and the agreement compared with two mainstream imported detection reagents (reagent A: Vidas D-dimer reagent; reagent B: Innovance D-dimer detection reagent) was evaluated. The clinical diagnostic efficacy of the ADX D-dimer was evaluated using the ELISA D-dimer (reagent A) test results as criteria. Results: The linear correlation coefficient of the 6-point calibrated absorbance and target value was 0.998, the bias of accuracy met the requirements (-2.8%-8.4%), and the coefficient of variation (CV) of within-run and between-day precision of the two levels were 1.0%-2.7% and 2.7%-4.1%, respectively, which were less than the requirements of the manufacturer's statement and the national health industry standard. The linear range within 0.33-9.69 mg/L FEU was verified and the carryover rate was 0. There was no significant interference with the assay results at bilirubin F≤0.22 g/L, bilirubin C≤0.22 g/L, hemoglobin≤5.5 g/L and celiac≤2 800 FTU. The manufacturer's reference interval≤0.5 mg/L FEU was verified suitable for this laboratory. For 358 samples without suspicious heterophilic antibody whose D-dimer levels range from 0.06 to143.63 mg/L FEU, the correlation between ADX D-dimer and another two assay was good, with r values being 0.968 and 0.975, respectively, the percentage of deviation and relative deviation beyond the 95% confidence interval was 3.4%-4.5% and 5.3%-7.0%. The correlation between ADX D-dimer and ELISA D-dimer was better than that of reagent B in the concentration range of 0.06-1.00 mg/L FEU (r=0.858, 0.134). For 172 samples with heterophilic antibody, the correlation between ADX D-dimer and ELISA D-dimer was still good(r=0.827), with the percentage of deviation and relative deviation being 6.4% (11/172). The diagnostic efficacy was evaluated using 530 samples, and the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value of ADX D-dimer was 97.4%, 77.6%, 91.9%, 91.9%. The area under the curve was 0.976 (95%CI: 0.964-0.987, P<0.001). Conclusion: The ADX D-dimer reagent has superior assay and diagnostic performance, and can meet the needs of clinical laboratories.

Abstract
The application of fermented soybean meal (FSBM) is an effective strategy to alleviate the shortage of fish meal (FM) in aquaculture. However, an excessive substitution ratio often reduces fish growth and induces liver oxidative stress, while the mechanism remains poorly understood. Here, an 8-week feeding trial was conducted in largemouth bass (initial weight: 6.82 ± 0.09 g) to establish an oxidative stress model by replacing 50% of FM with FSBM (fermented by Bacillus subtilis). The results showed that FSBM substitution significantly reduced the growth performance of largemouth bass, including the weight gain rate and specific growth rate. Moreover, FSBM significantly reduced the contents of essential amino acids and total free amino acids in muscle, along with the mRNA expression of amino acids and small peptide transporters. Enzyme activity detection and liver sections showed that FSBM substitution caused liver oxidative stress, indicating the successful construction of an oxidative stress model. An integrated analysis of transcriptomic and metabolomic data revealed that FSBM substitution impaired glycine, serine and threonine metabolism, as well as glutathione metabolism. In addition, the ratio of reduced glutathione (GSH) to oxidized glutathione (GSSG) was decreased in the FSBM group, which may explain the mechanism of oxidative stress caused by FSBM substitution. Considering that glycine is an important component of glutathione synthesis, key genes involved in glycine metabolism (glya, gnmt and agxt) and dietary glycine supplementation should be valued to improve the availability of FSBM. This study reveals for the first time the importance of non-essential amino acids in improving the utilization of plant-based protein sources and provides original insight for the optimization of aquatic feeds.

Abstract
Brown film formation, a unique developmental stage in the life cycle of Lentinula edodes, is essential for the subsequent development of fruiting bodies in L. edodes cultivation. The pH of mushroom growth substrates are usually adjusted with hydrated lime, yet the effects of hydrated lime on cultivating L. edodes and the molecular mechanisms associated with the effects have not been studied systemically. We cultivated L. edodes on substrates supplemented with 0% (CK), 1% (T1), 3% (T2), and 5% (T3) hydrated lime (Ca (OH)2), and applied transcriptomics and qRT-PCR to study gene expression on the brown film formation stage. Hydrated lime increased polysaccharide contents in L. edodes, especially in T2, where the 5.3% polysaccharide content was approximately 1.5 times higher than in the CK. The addition of hydrated lime in the substrate promoted laccase, lignin peroxidase and manganese peroxidase activities, implying that hydrated lime improved the ability of L. edodes to decompose lignin and provide nutrition for its growth and development. Among the annotated 9,913 genes, compared to the control, 47 genes were up-regulated and 52 genes down-regulated in T1; 73 genes were up-regulated and 44 were down-regulated in T2; and 125 genes were up-regulated and 65 genes were down-regulated in T3. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were enriched in the amino acid metabolism, lipid metabolism and carbohydrate metabolism related pathways. The carbohydrate-active enzyme genes up-regulated in the hydrated lime treatments were mostly glycosyl hydrolase genes. The results will facilitate future optimization of L. edodes cultivation techniques and possibly shortening the production cycle.

Abstract
Objective: To summarize the clinical characteristics of epileptic seizure associated with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). Methods: From January 2017 to July 2023 at Children's Hospital Capital Institute of Pediatrics, medical records of patients with both NF1 and epileptic seizure were reviewed in this case series study. The clinical characteristics, treatment and prognosis were analyzed retrospectively. Results: A total of 15 patients(12 boys and 3 girls) were collected. Café-au-lait macules were observed in all 15 patients. There were 6 patients with neurodevelopmental disorders and the main manifestations were intellectual disability or developmental delay. The age at the first epileptic seizure was 2.5 (1.2, 5.5) years. There were various seizure types, including generalized tonic-clonic seizures in 8 patients, focal motor seizures in 6 patients, epileptic spasm in 4 patients, tonic seizures in 1 patient, absence in 1 patient, generalized myoclonic seizure in 1 patient and focal to bilateral tonic-clonic seizure in 1 patient. Among 14 patients whose brain magnetic resonance imaging results were available, there were abnormal signals in corpus callosum, basal ganglia, thalamus or cerebellum in 6 patients, dilated ventricles of different degrees in 3 patients, blurred gray and white matter boundary in 2 patients, agenesis of corpus callosum in 1 patient and no obvious abnormalities in the other patients. Among 13 epilepsy patients, 8 were seizure-free with 1 or 2 antiseizure medications(ASM), 1 with drug resistant epilepsy was seizure-free after left temporal lobectomy, and the other 4 patients who have received 2 to 9 ASM had persistent seizures. One patient with complex febrile convulsion achieved seizure freedom after oral administration of diazepam on demand. One patient had only 1 unprovoked epileptic seizure and did not have another seizure without taking any ASM. Conclusions: The first epileptic seizure in NF1 patients usually occurs in infancy and early childhood, with the main seizure type of generalized tonic-clonic seizure and focal motor seizure. Some patients have intellectual disability or developmental delay. Most epilepsy patients achieve seizure freedom with ASM.

Abstract
Computation in neural circuits relies on judicious use of nonlinear circuit components. In many cases, multiple nonlinear components work collectively to control circuit outputs. Separating the contributions of these different components is difficult, and this hampers our understanding of the mechanistic basis of many important computations. Here, we introduce a tool that permits the design of light stimuli that predictably alter rod and cone phototransduction currents - including the compensation for nonlinear properties such as light adaptation. This tool, based on well-established models for the rod and cone phototransduction cascade, permits the separation of nonlinearities in phototransduction from those in downstream circuits. This will allow, for example, direct tests of the role of photoreceptor adaptation in downstream visual signals or in perception.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Neoadjuvant nivolumab plus chemotherapy significantly improved event-free survival (EFS) and pathologic complete response (pCR) versus chemotherapy alone in patients with resectable non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in the global phase III CheckMate 816 study. Here, we report post hoc exploratory efficacy, safety, and surgical outcomes in the Chinese subpopulation of this study. METHODS Adults with stage IB-IIIA resectable NSCLC were randomized to receive nivolumab 360 mg plus chemotherapy or chemotherapy alone every 3 weeks for three cycles followed by surgery. Primary endpoints included EFS and pCR (both per blinded independent review). EFS and pCR results were from 14 October 2022, and 16 September 2020, database locks, respectively. RESULTS The Chinese subpopulation comprised 97 patients (nivolumab plus chemotherapy, 44; chemotherapy, 53). At 38.2 months of minimum follow-up, median EFS was not reached [95% confidence interval (CI) 23.4 months-not reached] in the nivolumab plus chemotherapy arm and 13.9 months (95% CI 8.3-34.3 months) in the chemotherapy arm (hazard ratio 0.47, 95% CI 0.25-0.88). pCR rates were 25.0% (95% CI 13.2% to 40.3%) and 1.9% (95% CI 0.0% to 10.1%), respectively (odds ratio 11.05; 95% CI 1.41-86.49). Of 97 Chinese patients, 36 (82%) in the nivolumab plus chemotherapy arm and 41 (77%) in the chemotherapy arm underwent definitive surgery. Grade 3-4 treatment-related adverse events occurred in 18/43 patients (42%) treated with nivolumab plus chemotherapy and 22/53 patients (42%) treated with chemotherapy. CONCLUSIONS Consistent with findings in the global study population of CheckMate 816, neoadjuvant nivolumab plus chemotherapy improved EFS and pCR versus chemotherapy in the Chinese subpopulation without impacting treatment tolerability or the feasibility of surgery. These findings support the use of nivolumab plus chemotherapy as a standard neoadjuvant treatment option for Chinese patients with resectable NSCLC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Formaldehyde (FA) is associated with the occurrence of leukemia, and oxidative stress is considered to be a major reason. As an endogenous biomarker of oxidative stress, few studies focus on the relationship between peroxiredoxin III (PrxIII) and FA toxicity. Our previous research observed high expression of PrxIII occurred in the process of apoptosis of bone marrow cells (BMCs) induced by FA, however the exact mechanism is unclear. Therefore, this paper aimed to explore the possible association between FA toxicity and PrxIII gene. METHODS We first, used a Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) to detect the viability of BMCs after they were exposed to different doses of FA (50, 100, 200 μmol/L) for different exposure time (12, 24, 48 h), then chose 24 h as an exposure time to detect the expression of PrxIII for exposing different doses of FA by Quantitative reverse transcription-PCR (qRT-PCR) and Western blot analysis. Based on our preliminary experimental results, we chose 100 μmol/L FA as an exposure dose to expose for 24 h, and used a small interfering RNA (siRNA) to silenced PrxIII to examine the cell viability by CCK-8, reactive oxygen species (ROS) level by DCFH-DA, apoptosis by Annexin V/PI double staining and cell cycle by flow cytometry (FCM) so as to explore the possible regulatory effect of PrxIII silencing on FA-induced bone marrow toxicity. RESULTS High expression of PrxIII occurred in the process of FA-induced oxidative stress. Silencing of PrxIII prevented FA from inducing oxidative stress, thus increasing cell viability, decreasing ROS level, rescuing G0 -G1 and G2 -M arrest, and reducing cell apoptosis. CONCLUSION PrxIII silencing might be a potential target for alleviating FA-induced oxidative damage.

Abstract
Evaluating the accuracy of pulmonary nodule diagnosis avoids repeated low-dose computed tomography (LDCT)/CT scans or invasive examination, yet remains a main clinical challenge. Screening for new diagnostic tools is urgent. Herein, we established a nomogram based on the diagnostic signature of five circulating tsRNAs and CT information to predict malignant pulmonary nodules. In total, 249 blood samples of patients with pulmonary nodules were selected from three different lung cancer centers. Five tsRNAs were identified in the discovery and training cohorts and the diagnostic signature was established by the randomForest algorithm (tRF-Ser-TGA-003, tRF-Val-CAC-005, tRF-Ala-AGC-060, tRF-Val-CAC-024, and tiRNA-Gln-TTG-001). A nomogram was developed by combining tsRNA signature and CT information. The high level of accuracy was identified in an internal validation cohort (n = 83, area under the receiver operating characteristic curve [AUC] = 0.930, sensitivity 100.0%, specificity 73.8%) and external validation cohort (n = 66, AUC = 0.943, sensitivity 100.0%, specificity 86.8%). Furthermore, the diagnostic ability of our model discriminating invasive malignant ones from noninvasive lesions was assessed. A robust performance was achieved in the diagnosis of invasive malignant lesions in both training and validation cohorts (discovery cohort: AUC = 0.850, sensitivity 86.0%, specificity 81.4%; internal validation cohort: AUC = 0.784, sensitivity 78.8%, specificity 78.1%; and external validation cohort: AUC = 0.837, sensitivity 85.7%, specificity 84.0%). This novel circulating tsRNA-based diagnostic model has potential significance in predicting malignant pulmonary nodules. Application of the model could improve the accuracy of pulmonary nodule diagnosis and optimize surgical plans.

Abstract
Epididymal orchitis is a common urological condition for which medical management is the primary treatment strategy. Although Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a common cause of nosocomial urinary tract infections, it rarely causes acute epididymal orchitis in adolescence and is difficult to treat. Furthermore, it may progress to potentially fatal complications such as global testicular infarction and late atrophy. Urinary tract infection(s) can harm the gonads and is a well-known cause of male infertility. This case study involved a 13-year-old boy with acute epididymal orchitis caused by P. aeruginosa infection, which led to testicular infarction. Testicular volume, and anti-sperm antibody, reproductive hormone, and serum inhibin B levels were monitored for six months, which revealed that left testicular volume was 1/20 of that of the right. Anti-sperm antibodies were negative, oestradiol level was elevated, but serum inhibin B level declined. This case report emphasises the importance of early treatment by implementing the use of antibiotic(s) to maximise the opportunity for testicular rescue. Testicular function on the healthy side must be monitored when testicular necrosis is detected.

Abstract
CD36 is a multifunctional receptor expressed on the surface of many cell types. Among healthy individuals, CD36 may be absent on platelets and monocytes (type I deficiency) or platelets alone (type II deficiency). However, the exact molecular mechanisms underlying CD36 deficiency remain unclear. In this study, we aimed to identify individuals with CD36 deficiency and investigate the molecular basis underlying it. Blood samples were collected from platelet donors at Kunming Blood Center. Platelets and monocytes were isolated and CD36-expression levels were analyzed using flow cytometry. DNA from whole blood and mRNA isolated from monocytes and platelets of individuals with CD36 deficiency were analyzed using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing. The PCR products were cloned and sequenced. Among the 418 blood donors,7 (1.68%) were CD36 deficient: 1 (0.24%) with type I deficiency and 6(1.44%) with type II deficiency. Six heterozygous mutations occurred, including c.268C>T (in type I individuals), c.120 + 1 G>T, c.268C>T, c.329_330del/AC, c.1156 C>T, c.1163A>C, and c.1228_1239del/ATTGTGCCTATT (in type II individuals). Mutations were not detected in one type II individual . At the cDNA level, only mutant, but not wild-type, transcripts were detected in the platelets and monocytes of type I individual. In type II individuals, only mutant transcripts were found in platelets, whereas monocytes possessed wild-type and mutant transcripts. Interestingly, only alternative splicing transcripts were observed in the individual without mutation. We report the incidence rates of type I and II CD36 deficiencies among platelet donors in Kunming. Molecular genetic analyses of DNA and cDNA demonstrated that homozygous mutations on the cDNA level in platelets and monocytes or platelets alone identified type I and II deficiencies, respectively. Furthermore, alternatively spliced products also potentially contribute to the mechanism of CD36 deficiency.

Abstract
Residual flotation chemicals in beneficiation wastewater seriously threaten local ecosystems, such as groundwater or soil, and must be treated effectively. Currently, the degradation of organic pollutants using nitrided MOFs-derived carbon to activate persulfate (PDS) has attracted considerable attention. Hence, we developed a new synthetic strategy to load dopamine hydrochloride (PDA) onto MOF-5-derived porous carbon (PC) to form NPC, and the degradation of a typical flotation Aniline aerofloat (AAF) at high salinity by a low dose of the NPC/PDS system was investigated. Several characterization analyses such as TEM, XRD, Raman, FT-IR and XPS demonstrated that the nitrogen-rich indolequinone unit in PDA provided nitrogen to PC during the pyrolysis process. This enabled the core-shell structure of NPC and the synergy among the multiple components to induce the AAF degradation by PDS over a wide pH scale in a short period of time. It was deduced that the degradation of AAF by the NPC-8/PDS system was a non-radical pathway dominated by 1O2, which relied mainly on the conversion of superoxide radicals (O2•-) and surface-bound radicals. Among them, the pyridine N in the sp2 hybrid carbon was considered as a possible active site. This non-radical pathway was resistant to pH changes and background substances in the water, and well overcame the inhibition of the reaction by natural organic substances and inorganic anions in natural water. In this study, A novel approach to the synthesis of homogeneous MOFs nuclear-derived porous carbon was proposed and the application of MOFs-derived porous carbon for AAF remediation of mineral processing wastewater was broadened.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aims to construct an artificial intelligence (AI) model capable of effectively discriminating between abdominal Henoch-Schönlein purpura (AHSP) and acute appendicitis (AA) in pediatric patients. METHODS A total of 6965 participants, comprising 2201 individuals with AHSP and 4764 patients with AA, were enrolled in the study. Additionally, 53 laboratory indicators were taken into consideration. Five distinct artificial intelligence (AI) models were developed employing machine learning algorithms, namely XGBoost, AdaBoost, Gaussian Naïve Bayes (GNB), MLPClassifier (MLP), and support vector machine (SVM). The performance of these prediction models was assessed through receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, calibration curve assessment, and decision curve analysis (DCA). RESULTS We identified 32 discriminative indicators (p < .05) between AHSP and AA. Five indicators, namely the lymphocyte ratio (LYMPH ratio), eosinophil ratio (EO ratio), eosinophil count (EO count), neutrophil ratio (NEUT ratio), and C-reactive protein (CRP), exhibited strong performance in distinguishing AHSP from AA (AUC ≥ 0.80). Among the various prediction models, the XGBoost model displayed superior performance evidenced by the highest AUC (XGBoost = 0.895, other models < 0.89), accuracy (XGBoost = 0.824, other models < 0.81), and Kappa value (XGBoost = 0.621, other models < 0.60) in the validation set. After optimization, the XGBoost model demonstrated remarkable diagnostic performance for AHSP and AA (AUC > 0.95). Both the calibration curve and decision curve analysis suggested the promising clinical utility and net benefits of the XGBoost model. CONCLUSION The AI-based machine learning model exhibits high prediction accuracy and can differentiate AHSP and AA from a data-driven perspective.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to assess the ability of [11C]methionine (MET) PET in distinguishing between tumor progression (TP) and treatment-related changes (TRCs) among different types of adult-type diffuse gliomas according to the 2021 World Health Organization classification and predict overall survival (OS). METHODS We retrospectively selected 113 patients with adult-type diffuse gliomas with suspected TP who underwent MET PET imaging. Maximum and mean tumor-to-background ratios (TBRmax, TBRmean) and metabolic tumor volume (MTV) were calculated. Diagnoses were verified by histopathology (n = 50) or by clinical/radiological follow-up (n = 63). The diagnostic performance of MET PET parameters was evaluated through receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis and area under the curve (AUC) calculation. Survival analysis employed the Kaplan-Meier method and Cox proportional-hazards regression. RESULTS TP and TRCs were diagnosed in 76 (67%) and 37 (33%) patients, respectively. ROC analysis revealed TBRmax had the best performance in differentiating TP from TRCs with a cut-off of 1.96 in IDH-mutant astrocytoma (AUC, 0.87; sensitivity, 93%; specificity 69%), 1.80 in IDH-mutant and 1p/19q-codeleted oligodendroglioma (AUC, 0.96; sensitivity, 100%; specificity, 89%), and 2.13 in IDH wild-type glioblastoma (AUC, 0.89; sensitivity, 89%; specificity, 78%), respectively. On multivariate analysis, higher TBRmean and MTV were significantly correlated with shorter OS in all IDH-mutant gliomas, as well as in IDH-mutant astrocytoma subgroup. CONCLUSION This work confirms that MET PET has varying diagnostic performances in distinguishing TP from TRCs within three types of adult-type diffuse gliomas, and highlights its high diagnostic accuracy in IDH-mutant and 1p/19q-codeleted oligodendroglioma and potential prognostic value for IDH-mutant gliomas, particularly IDH-mutant astrocytoma.

Tumour development is not only an independent event of genetic mutation and overgrowth of tumour cells but is the result of a synergistic interaction between a malignant tumour and its surrounding tumour stromal microenvironment. In this paper, we address the shortcomings of current tumour therapy by focussing on the tumour itself and the surrounding microenvironment to achieve a two-pronged targeting model. In this paper, a dual-targeting, pH/reactive oxygen species (ROS) sensitive nano-drug delivery system for tumour cells and CAFs was designed. A hyaluronic acid (HA) with CD44 receptor targeting on the surface of tumour cells was selected as the main carrier material, and a dipeptide Z-glycine-proline (ZGP) with specific targeting of fibroblast activating protein (FAP) on the surface of CAFs was modified on HA to achieve precise targeting of CAFs, open the physical barrier of tumour cells and improve the deep penetration effect of the tumour, while introducing thioketone bond and ketone condensation bond to take advantage of the highly reactive ROS and low pH microenvironment at the tumour site to achieve chemical bond breaking of nano micelles encapsulating paclitaxel (PTX), drug release, and thus drug aggregation at the tumour site and improved bioavailability of the drug.

Abstract
Background Fibrinogen is a potential risk factor for the prognosis of CAD and is associated with the complexity of CAD. There is limited research specifically investigating the predictive role of fibrinogen in determining the severity of CAD among patients with T2DM, as well as its impact on the prognosis following PCI. Methods The study included 675 T2DM patients who underwent PCI at the Third People's Hospital of Chengdu between April 27, 2018, and February 5, 2021, with 540 of them remaining after exclusions. The complexity of CAD was assessed using the SYNTAX score. The primary endpoint of the study was the incidence of MACCEs. Results After adjusting for multiple confounding factors, fibrinogen remained a significant independent risk factor for mid/high SYNTAX scores (SYNTAX score > 22, OR 1.184, 95% CI 1.022-1.373, P = 0.025). Additionally, a dose-response relationship between fibrinogen and the risk of complicated CAD was observed (SYNTAX score > 22; nonlinear P = 0.0043). The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUROC) of fibrinogen for predicting mid/high SYNTAX score was 0.610 (95% CI 0.567-0.651, P = 0.0002). The high fibrinogen group (fibrinogen > 3.79 g/L) had a higher incidence of calcified lesions and an elevated trend of more multivessel disease and chronic total occlusion. A total of 116 patients (21.5%) experienced MACCEs during the median follow-up time of 18.5 months. After adjustment, multivariate Cox regression analysis confirmed that fibrinogen (HR, 1.138; 95% CI 1.010-1.284, P = 0.034) remained a significant independent risk factor for MACCEs. The AUROC of fibrinogen for predicting MACCEs was 0.609 (95% CI 0.566-0.650, P = 0.0002). Individuals with high fibrinogen levels (fibrinogen > 4.28 g/L) had a higher incidence of acute myocardial infarction (P < 0.001), MACCEs (P < 0.001), all-cause death (P < 0.001), stroke (P = 0.030), and cardiac death (P = 0.002). Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed a higher incidence of MACCEs in the high fibrinogen group (Log-Rank test: P < 0.001). Conclusions Elevated fibrinogen levels were associated with increased coronary anatomical complexity (as quantified by the SYNTAX score) and a higher incidence of MACCEs after PCI in patients with T2DM.
