In responding to pressures to contain cost and improve the quality of care, medical staff are becoming increasingly involved in policymaking and managerial decisions.

Treatment of scleroderma

A case of scleroderma is presented. Considerable relief of symptoms, healing of ulcers and increased skin and joint mobility occurred. The progressive improvement of the patient's condition was probably due more to potassium para-aminobenzoate (KPAB) than to resurpine.

Treatment of calcinosis circumscripta and Raynaud's phenomenon

The case is presented of a patient with severe sclerodactyly, subcutaneous digital and palmar calcification, and Raynaud's phenomenon. Treatment with probenecid and intra-arterial injection of reserpine resulted in considerable improvement.
