Abstract
Evidence around the relationship between air pollution and the development of diabetes mellitus (DM) remains limited and inconsistent. To investigate the potential mediation effect of asprosin on the association between fine particulate matter (PM2.5), tropospheric ozone (O3) and blood glucose homeostasis. A case-control study was conducted on a total of 320 individuals aged over 60 years, including both diabetic and non-diabetic individuals, from six communities in Taiyuan, China, from July to September 2021. Generalized linear models (GLMs) suggested that short-term exposure to PM2.5 was associated with elevated fasting blood glucose (FBG), insulin resistance index (HOMA-IR), as well as reduced pancreatic β-cell function index (HOMA-β), and short-term exposure to O3 was associated with increased FBG and decreased HOMA-β in the total population and elderly diabetic patients. Mediation analysis showed that asprosin played a mediating role in the relationship of PM2.5 and O3 with FBG, with mediating ratios of 10.2% and 18.4%, respectively. Our study provides emerging evidence supporting that asprosin mediates the short-term effects of exposure to PM2.5 and O3 on elevated FBG levels in an elderly population. Additionally, the elderly who are diabetic, over 70 years, and BMI over 24 kg/m2 are more vulnerable to air pollutants and need additional protection to reduce their exposure to air pollution.

Abstract
Mitochondria in breast cancer play a critical role in survival and adaptation to dynamic environments. Thus, targeting mitochondria emerges as a promising therapeutic strategy for breast cancer. However, the adaptive unfolded protein response in mitochondria (UPRmt) due to mitochondrial unspecific distribution might contribute to diminished therapeutic outcomes. Herein, mitochondrial targeting liposome agents (CTPP-Lipid) are constructed and adopted for delivering the copper ion (CuET-DSF), which is especially sensitive for mitochondria-abundant breast tumors. In brief, the CTPP-Lipid@CuET achieves the goal of Cu2+ overloading by mitochondria targeting delivery. This rapidly increases ROS production, disrupts mitochondrial structure, and avoids the adaptive UPRmt formation, finally leading to apoptosis of breast cancer cells. In general, the Cu2+ overloading at mitochondria by CTPP-Lipid@CuET is a potential strategy for antitumor therapy, providing new insights into breast tumor therapy.

Abstract
The heavy metals, pesticides and dyes in agriculture and industry caused serious water pollution have increased the urgency for the advancement of biomass-based adsorbents due to their merits of low cost, high efficiency, and environmental sustainability. Thus, this review systematically examines the recent progress of lignin-based adsorbents dedicated to wastewater purification. Commencing with a succinct exposition on the intricate structure and prevalent forms of lignin, the review proceeds to expound rational design strategies tailored for lignin-based adsorbents coupled with adsorption mechanisms and regeneration methods. Emphasis is placed on the potential industrial applications of lignin-based adsorbents, accentuating their capacity for recovery and direct utilization post-use. The future challenges and outlooks associated with lignin-based adsorbents are discussed to provide novel perspectives for the development of high-performance and sustainable biosorbents, facilitating the effective removal of pollutants and the value-added utilization of resources in a sustainable manner.

Abstract
Emerging 2D chromium-based dichalcogenides (CrXn (X = S, Se, Te; 0 < n ≤ 2)) have provoked enormous interests due to their abundant structures, intriguing electronic and magnetic properties, excellent environmental stability, and great application potentials in next generation electronics and spintronics devices. Achieving stoichiometry-controlled synthesis of 2D CrXn is of paramount significance for such envisioned investigations. Herein, we report the stoichiometry-controlled syntheses of 2D chromium selenide (CrxSey) materials (rhombohedral Cr2Se3 and monoclinic Cr3Se4) via a Cr-self-intercalation route by designing two typical chemical vapor deposition (CVD) strategies. We have also clarified the different growth mechanisms, distinct chemical compositions, and crystal structures of the two type materials. Intriguingly, we reveal that the ultrathin Cr2Se3 nanosheets exhibit a metallic feature, while the Cr3Se4 nanosheets present a transition from p-type semiconductor to metal upon increasing the flake thickness. Moreover, we have also uncovered the ferromagnetic properties of 2D Cr2Se3 and Cr3Se4 below ∼70 K and ∼270 K, respectively. Briefly, this research should promote the stoichiometric-ratio controllable syntheses of 2D magnetic materials, and the property explorations toward next generation spintronics and magneto-optoelectronics related applications.

Abstract
Drug delivery systems based on nanoparticles still face challenges of low efficacy and an inability to track treatment effects in tumor therapy due to biological barriers. This limitation hinders clinicians' ability to determine treatment effects and proper drug dosages, thus, ultimately impeding the further application and transformation of nanoplatforms. To address this challenge, an all-in-one nanoplatform for therapy and imaging is proposed. The nanoplatform is constructed by using nanoparticles through the co-encapsulation of the photothermal therapeutic agent IR780, the passively targeted drug OA@Fe3O4, and the chemotherapeutic drug paclitaxel. Under the guidance of magnetic navigation, the nanoparticles can enhance local enrichment of the drug, while the luminescence properties of IR780 enable drug tracking at the same time. Remarkably, the nanoparticles exhibit improved photothermal-chemotherapy synergy under magnetic targeting guidance, demonstrating antitumor effects in both in vitro and in vivo experiments. It is demonstrated that the use of these polymeric nanoparticles has significant potential for future biomedical applications and clinical decisions.

Abstract
Introduction Sleep disruption affects biological processes that facilitate carcinogenesis. This retrospective cohort study used de-identified data from the Veterans Administration (VA) electronic medical record system to test the hypothesis that patients with diagnosed sleep disorders had an increased risk of prostate, breast, colorectal, or other cancers (1999-2010, N=663,869). This study builds upon existing evidence by examining whether patients with more severe or longer-duration diagnoses were at a greater risk of these cancers relative to those with a less severe or shorter duration sleep disorder. Methods Incident cancer cases were identified in the VA Tumor Registry and sleep disorders were defined by International Classification of Sleep Disorder codes. Analyses were performed using extended Cox regression with sleep disorder diagnosis as a time-varying covariate. Results Sleep disorders were present among 56,055 eligible patients (8% of the study population); sleep apnea (46%) and insomnia (40%) were the most common diagnoses. There were 18,181 cancer diagnoses (41% prostate, 12% colorectal, 1% female breast, 46% other). The hazard ratio (HR) for a cancer diagnosis was 1.45 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.37, 1.54) among those with any sleep disorder, after adjustment for age, sex, state of residence, and marital status. Risks increased with increasing sleep disorder duration (short [<1-2 years] HR: 1.04 [CI: 1.03-1.06], medium [>2-5 years] 1.23 [1.16-1.32]; long [>5-12 years] 1.52 [1.34-1.73]). Risks also increased with increasing sleep disorder severity using cumulative sleep disorder treatments as a surrogate exposure; African Americans with more severe disorders had greater risks relative to those with fewer treatments and other race groups. Results among patients with only sleep apnea, insomnia, or another sleep disorder were similar to those for all sleep disorders combined. Discussion The findings are consistent with other studies indicating that sleep disruption is a cancer risk factor. Optimal sleep and appropriate sleep disorder management are modifiable risk factors that may facilitate cancer prevention.

Abstract
Soybean (Glycine max [L.] Merr.) is one of the primary sources of plant protein and oil for human foods, animal feed, and industrial processing. The seed number per pod generally varies from one to four and is an important component of seed number per unit area and seed yield. We used natural variation in 264 landraces and improved cultivars or lines to identify candidate genes involved in the regulation of seed number per pod in soybean. Genome-wide association tests revealed 65 loci that are associated with seed number per pod trait. Among them, 11 could be detected in multiple environments. Candidate genes were identified for seed number per pod phenotype from the most significantly associated loci, including a gene encoding protein argonaute 4, a gene encoding histone acetyltransferase of the MYST family 1, a gene encoding chromosome segregation protein SMC-1 and a gene encoding exocyst complex component EXO84A. In addition, plant hormones were found to be involved in ovule and seed development and the regulation of seed number per pod in soybean. This study facilitates the dissection of genetic networks underlying seed number per pod in soybean, which will be useful for the genetic improvement of seed yield in soybean.

Abstract
Soybean [Glycine max(L.)Merr.] is a leading oil-bearing crop and cultivated globally over a vast scale. The agricultural landscape in China faces a formidable challenge with drought significantly impacting soybean production. In this study, we treated a natural population of 264 Chinese soybean accessions using 15% PEG-6000 and used GR, GE, GI, RGR, RGE, RGI and ASFV as evaluation index. Using the ASFV, we screened 17 strong drought-tolerant soybean germplasm in the germination stage. Leveraging 2,597,425 high-density SNP markers, we conducted Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS) and identified 92 SNPs and 9 candidate genes significantly associated with drought tolerance. Furthermore, we developed two KASP markers for S14_5147797 and S18_53902767, which closely linked to drought tolerance. This research not only enriches the pool of soybean germplasm resources but also establishes a robust foundation for the molecular breeding of drought tolerance soybean varieties.

Abstract
Dehydrins proteins accumulate and play important protective roles in most plants during abiotic stresses. The objective of this study was to characterize a YSK2-type dehydrin gene, WDHN2, isolated from Triticum aestivum previously. In this work, wheat dehydrin WDHN2 was expressed in Escherichia coli and purified by immobilized metal affinity chromatography, which exhibited as a single band by sodium dodecyl sulfonate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and western blotting. We show that WDHN2 is capable of alleviating lactate dehydrogenase inactivation from heat and desiccation in vitro enzyme activity protection assay. In vivo assay of Escherichia coli viability demonstrates the enhancement of cell survival by the overexpression of WDHN2. The protein aggregation prevention assay explores that WDHN2 has a broad protective effect on the cellular proteome. The results show that WDHN2 is mainly accumulated in the nucleus and cytosol, suggesting that this dehydrin may exert its function in both cellular compartments. Our data suggest that WDHN2 acts as a chaperone molecular in vivo.

Abstract
Objective: To assess the effectiveness of a 6-month Ba Duan Jin exercise program in improving the balance of community-dwelling older adults. Methods: A two arms, parallel-group, cluster randomized controlled trial was conducted in 1 028 community residents aged 60-80 years in 40 communities in 5 provinces of China. Participants in the intervention group (20 communities, 523 people) received Ba Duan Jin exercise 5 days/week, 1 hour/day for 6 months, and three times of falls prevention health education, and the control group (20 communities, 505 people) received falls prevention health education same as the intervention group. The Berg balance scale (BBS) score was the leading outcome indicator, and the secondary outcome indicators included the length of time of standing on one foot (with eyes open and closed), standing in a tandem stance (with eyes open and closed), the closed circle test, and the timed up to test. Results: A total of 1 028 participants were included in the final analysis, including 731 women (71.11%) and 297 men (28.89%), and the age was (69.87±5.67) years. After the 3-month intervention, compared with the baseline data, the BBS score of the intervention group was significantly higher than the control group by 3.05 (95%CI: 2.23-3.88) points (P<0.001). After the 6-month intervention, compared with the baseline data, the BBS score of the intervention group was significantly higher than the control group by 4.70 (95%CI: 4.03-5.37) points (P<0.001). Ba Duan Jin showed significant improvement (P<0.05) in all secondary outcomes after 6 months of exercise in the intervention group compared with the control group. Conclusions: This study showed that Ba Duan Jin exercise can improve balance in community-dwelling older adults aged 60-80. The longer the exercise time, the better the improvement.

Abstract
Salt stress poses a significant challenge to crop productivity, and understanding the genetic basis of salt tolerance is paramount for breeding resilient soybean varieties. In this study, a soybean natural population was evaluated for salt tolerance during the germination stage, focusing on key germination traits, including germination rate (GR), germination energy (GE), and germination index (GI). It was seen that under salt stress, obvious inhibitions were found on these traits, with GR, GE, and GI diminishing by 32% to 54% when compared to normal conditions. These traits displayed a coefficient of variation (31.81% to 50.6%) and a substantial generalized heritability (63.87% to 86.48%). Through GWAS, a total of 1841 significant single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were identified to be associated with these traits, distributed across chromosome 2, 5, 6, and 20. Leveraging these significant association loci, 12 candidate genes were identified to be associated with essential functions in coordinating cellular responses, regulating osmotic stress, mitigating oxidative stress, clearing reactive oxygen species (ROS), and facilitating heavy metal ion transport - all of which are pivotal for plant development and stress tolerance. To validate the candidate genes, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) analysis was conducted, revealing three highly expressed genes (Glyma.02G067700, Glyma.02G068900, and Glyma.02G070000) that play pivotal roles in plant growth, development, and osmoregulation. In addition, based on these SNPs related with salt tolerance, KASP (Kompetitive Allele-Specific PCR)markers were successfully designed to genotype soybean accessions. These findings provide insight into the genetic base of soybean salt tolerance and candidate genes for enhancing soybean breeding programs in this study.

Abstract
PURPOSE To develop a nomogram based on preoperative clinical and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features for the microvascular invasion (MVI) status in solitary intrahepatic mass-forming cholangiocarcinoma (sIMCC) and to evaluate whether it could predict recurrence-free survival (RFS). METHODS We included 115 cases who experienced MRI examinations for sIMCC with R0 resection. The preoperative clinical and MRI features were extracted. Independent predictors related to MVI+ were evaluated by stepwise multivariate logistic regression, and a nomogram was constructed. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to assess the predictive ability. All patients were classified into high- and low-risk groups of MVI. Then, the correlations of the nomogram with RFS in patents with sIMCC were analyzed by Kaplan-Meier method. RESULTS The occurrence rate of MVI+ was 38.3% (44/115). The preoperative independent predictors of MVI+ were carbohydrate antigen 19-9 > 37 U/ml, tumor size > 5 cm, and an ill-defined tumor boundary. Integrating these predictors, the nomogram exerted a favorable diagnostic performance with areas under the ROC curve of 0.767 (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.654-0.881) in the development cohort, and 0.760 (95% CI 0.591-0.929) in the validation cohort. In the RFS analysis, significant differences were observed between the high- and low-risk MVI groups (6-month RFS rates: 64.5% vs. 78.8% and 46.7% vs. 82.4% in the development and validation cohorts, respectively) (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS A nomogram based on clinical and MRI features is a potential biomarker of MVI and may be a potent method to classify the risk of recurrence in patients with sIMCC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Microbial contamination of external-use ultrasound probes is a serious and overlooked issue. We assessed the effects of different methods of disinfecting medical external-use ultrasound probes. METHODS On-site disinfection experiments were conducted at 10 hospitals; the tips and sides of external-use ultrasound probes were sampled before and after disinfection, and 3 disinfection methods were assessed (use of a new ultraviolet [UV] ultrasound probe disinfector, wiping with ordinary paper towels or cleaning with disinfectant wipes). RESULTS For the new UV probe disinfector, the median microbial death rates for the tips and sides of the external-use ultrasound probe were 93.67% and 97.50%, respectively, which were higher than those for wiping with paper towels and cleaning with disinfectant wipes (12.50% and 10.00% and 20.00% and 21.42%, respectively); the rates of microorganisms exceeding the standard were 15.0% and 13.3%, respectively, which were lower than those for wiping with paper towels and cleaning with disinfectant wipes (53.3% and 60.0% and 46.7% and 38.3%, respectively). The death rates of different species of microorganisms were high, ranging from 87.5% to 100%. CONCLUSIONS The new UV ultrasound probe disinfector significantly reduced the risk of potential nosocomial infections according to the low microbial death rate for conventional disinfection methods.

Abstract
Maternally inherited diabetes and deafness (MIDD) is often caused by the m.3243A > G mutation in mitochondrial DNA. Unfortunately, the characteristics of MIDD, especially long-term outcomes and heteroplasmic changes, have not been well described previously. The purpose of this study was to describe the clinical and genetic features of a family with MIDD after 10 years of follow-up.A 33-year-old male patient with typical characteristics of MIDD, including early-onset diabetes, deafness, and low body mass index, was admitted to our department. Further investigation revealed that the vast majority of his maternal relatives suffered from diabetes with or without deafness. A detailed family history was then requested from the patient and a pedigree was constructed. The patient suspected of MIDD was screened for mutations using whole mitochondrial DNA sequencing. Candidate pathogenic variants were then validated in other family members through Sanger sequencing. The patient was diagnosed with MIDD, with inherited m.3243A > G mutation in the mitochondrially encoded tRNA leucine 1 (MT-TL1) gene, after 10 years of symptom onset. The patient was then treated with insulin and coenzyme Q10 to improve mitochondrial function. During the follow-up period, his fasting blood glucose and HbA1c levels were improved and the incidence of diabetic ketoacidosis was significantly reduced. Our findings indicate that whole mitochondrial DNA sequencing should be considered for patients suspected of MIDD to improve the efficiency of diagnosis and prognosis.

Abstract
Desiccation stress could induce crossprotection and even affect virulence of Salmonella enterica. However, the influence of food matrices with low-water activity on desiccation adaptation of Salmonella still remains unclear. This study investigated the survival and adaptation of Salmonella Enteritidis in skim milk powder, ginger powder, and chocolate powder under desiccation storage conditions for a total of 12 weeks. High survival rates of Salmonella Enteritidis in all food matrices maintained over the long-term desiccation storage. Desiccation-adapted Salmonella Enteritidis enhanced heat resistance (p < 0.05) with the increase of storage time. Food composition plays an important role in the induction of crossresistance of desiccation-adapted Salmonella. After desiccation storage, Salmonella Enteritidis in ginger powder was most tolerant to heat treatment. Salmonella Enteritidis in skim milk powder was most resistant to the gastrointestinal simulation environment, and had strongest adhesion to Caco-2 cells. The effects of food composition on gene expression (rpoS, proV, otsA, otsB, grpE, dnaK, rpoH, and sigDE) in desiccation-adapted Salmonella Enteritidis were not significant (p > 0.05). At initial desiccation storage, osmotic protection-related genes (fadA, proV, otsA, and otsB), stress response regulator (rpoS), and heat-resistance-related genes (grpE, dnaK, and rpoH) were all significantly upregulated (p < 0.05). However, after 4-week storage, the expression level of desiccation-related genes, proV, otsA, otsB, grpE, dnaK, and rpoH, significantly decreased (p < 0.05). This study enables a better understanding of Salmonella's responses to long-term desiccation stress in different kinds of low-water activity foods.

Abstract
Infectious diseases, such as Dengue fever, pose a significant public health threat. Developing a reliable mathematical model plays a crucial role in quantitatively elucidating the kinetic characteristics of antibody-virus interactions. By integrating previous models and incorporating the antibody dynamic theory, we have constructed a novel and robust model that can accurately simulate the dynamics of antibodies and viruses based on a comprehensive understanding of immunology principles. It explicitly formulates the viral clearance effect of antibodies, along with the positive feedback stimulation of virus-antibody complexes on antibody regeneration. In addition to providing quantitative insights into the dynamics of antibodies and viruses, the model exhibits a high degree of accuracy in capturing the kinetics of viruses and antibodies in Dengue fever patients. This model offers a valuable solution to modeling the differences between primary and secondary Dengue infections concerning IgM/IgG antibodies. Furthermore, it demonstrates that a faster removal rate of antibody-virus complexes might lead to a higher peak viral loading and worse clinical symptom. Moreover, it provides a reasonable explanation for the antibody-dependent enhancement of heterogeneous Dengue infections. Ultimately, this model serves as a foundation for constructing an optimal mathematical model to combat various infectious diseases in the future.

Abstract
Involvement of the transcriptional regulator RpoS in the persistence of viable but non-culturable (VBNC) state has been demonstrated in several species of bacteria. This study investigated the role of the RpoS in the formation and resuscitation of VBNC state in Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis CICC 21482 by measuring bacterial survival, morphology, physiological characteristics, and gene expression in wild-type (WT) and rpoS-deletion (ΔrpoS) strains during long-term storage in powdered infant formula (PIF). The ΔrpoS strain was produced by allelic exchange using a suicide plasmid. Bacteria were inoculated into PIF for 635-day storage. Survival, morphology, intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels and intercellular quorum sensing autoinducer-2 (AI-2) contents were regularly measured. Resuscitation assays were conducted after obtaining VBNC cells. Gene expression was measured using real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). The results showed that RpoS and low temperature conditions were associated with enhanced culturability and recoverability of Salmonella Enteritidis after desiccation storage in low water activity (aw) PIF. In addition, the synthesis of intracellular ROS and intercellular quorum sensing AI-2 was regulated by RpoS, inducing the formation and resuscitation of VBNC cells. Gene expression of soxS, katG and relA was found strongly associated with RpoS. Due to the lack of RpoS factor, the ΔrpoS strain could not normally synthesize SoxS, catalase and (p)ppGpp, resulting in its early shift to the VBNC state. This study elucidates the role of rpoS in desiccation stress and the formation and resuscitation mechanism of VBNC cells under desiccation stress. It serves as the basis for preventing and controlling the recovery of pathogenic bacteria in VBNC state in low aw foods.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the mid-term efficacy of one-stage unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) combined with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction in the treatment of medial compartment osteoarthritis (OA) with ACL deficiency. Methods: Retrospective cohort study. The clinical data of 13 patients (14 knees) who underwent UKA with ACL reconstruction for knee medial compartment OA combined with ACL deficiency in Wangjing Hospital of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences from January 2012 to January 2020 were retrospective analyzed. A 1∶1 proportioning study was conducted with 13 patients (14 knees) who underwent UKA due to medial compartment OA with intact ACL during the same period. The matching conditions were the same gender, age, surgical side, anesthesia method, comorbidities, and imaging lesions. There were 26 patients (28 knees) in the two groups, including 6 males (6 knees) and 20 females (22 knees), aged (58.9±4.2) years. The range of motion (ROM) and Oxford Knee Score (OKS) were used to evaluate the knee joint function at the last follow-up. The anteroposterior, lateral and axial X-ray films of the knee joint and the weight-bearing full-length X-ray films of the lower limbs were taken during follow-up. The hip knee ankle (HKA) angle, the posterior slope angle (PSA) of tibial prosthesis, and the anterior tibial translation (ATT) were recorded and compared between the two groups. The progression of lateral compartment OA, prosthesis loosening, and dislocation were evaluated. The mid-term follow-up clinical efficacy of the two surgical methods was compared, and the etiology of the patients was analyzed to verify the clinical efficacy and patient selection of one-stage UKA combined with ACL reconstruction. Results: The follow-up time of the two groups was (7.14±2.45) years. At the last follow-up, there was no significant difference in joint ROM between the combined group and the UKA group (120.90°±2.95° vs 122.29°±3.22°, P=0.260). There was no significant difference in OKS score between the two groups [(42.50±1.99) vs (43.21±2.26), P=0.380]. There was no significant difference in HKA angle and ATT distance between the two groups before operation (both P>0.05). At the last follow-up, the results were better than those before operation, and the differences were statistically significant (both P<0.05). At the last follow-up, there was no significant difference in HKA Angle between the combined group and the simple group (177.79°±1.25 ° vs 177.86°±1.29°, P=0.880). Tibial prosthesis PSA and ATT distance were not significantly different between the two groups [(4.57°±0.94° vs 4.50°±1.34°and (0.21±0.89) mm vs (0.14±1.35) mm, both P>0.05)]. There was no prosthesis loosening and obvious progression of lateral compartment OA in both groups at the last follow-up. Conclusion: For young patients with medial compartment OA secondary to ACL deficiency, UKA combined with ACL reconstruction is recommended, it can obtain good mid-term results.

Abstract
A ratiometric fluorescence and colorimetry dual-mode nano-biosensor has been established for Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) determination. The prepared approaches of Manganese dioxide nanosheets (MnO2 NSs) and carbon dots (BCDs) were facile, efficient and labor-saving and MnO2 NSs-mediated fluorescence quenching and oxidation could amplify detection signals. The dual-mode determination had a broad linear range of 37 ∼ 3.7 × 106 CFU/mL and low detection limits of 9 CFU/mL (ratiometric fluorescence) and 22 CFU/mL (colorimetry). Meanwhile, the method was applied in real samples with recovery ranging of 90 ∼ 102% and RSD < 4.44%, which was an insignificant difference with standard plate counting. The new dual-mode approach of S. aureus possesses the advantages of superior sensitivity, precision, accuracy and specificity. Moreover, the dual-mode nano-biosensor can be adopted in other foodborne pathogens determination by changing corresponding aptamers and provide an enlightenment in monitoring food safety.

Abstract
DVGs (Defective Viral Genomes) are prevalent in RNA virus infections. In this investigation, we conducted an analysis of high-throughput sequencing data and observed widespread presence of DVGs in SARS-CoV-2. Comparative analysis between SARS-CoV-2 and diverse DNA viruses revealed heightened susceptibility to damage and increased sequencing sample heterogeneity within the SARS-CoV-2 genome. Whole-genome sequencing depth variability analysis exhibited a higher coefficient of variation for SARS-CoV-2, while DVG analysis indicated a significant proportion of recombination sites, signifying notable genome heterogeneity and suggesting that a large proportion of assembled virus particles contain incomplete RNA sequences. Moreover, our investigation explored the sequencing depth and DVG content differences among various strains. Our findings revealed that as the virus evolves, there is a notable increase in the proportion of intact genomes within virus particles, as evidenced by third-generation sequencing data. Specifically, the proportion of intact genome in the Omicron strain surpassed that of the Delta and Alpha strains. This observation effectively elucidates the heightened infectiousness of the Omicron strain compared to the Delta and Alpha strains. We also postulate that this improvement in completeness stems from enhanced virus assembly capacity, as the Omicron strain can promptly facilitate the binding of RNA and capsid protein, thereby reducing the exposure time of vulnerable virus RNA in the host environment and significantly mitigating its degradation. Finally, employing mathematical modeling, we simulated the impact of DVG effects under varying environmental factors on infection characteristics and population evolution. Our findings provide an explanation for the close association between symptom severity and the extent of virus invasion, as well as the substantial disparity in population infection characteristics caused by the same strain under distinct environmental conditions. This study presents a novel approach for future virus research and vaccine development.

Abstract
Water-based nanolubricants are widely used in rolling processes due to their unique characteristics. As a common additive, nanoparticles could significantly improve the tribological properties of the lubricant. However, the effect of the physical properties of the particles on the anti-friction behavior is unclear. In this study, the effect of Fe3O4 nanoparticles as an additive for the prepared lubricant is studied. The tribological properties of Fe3O4 water-based nanolubricant are examined using a tribometer and a scratch meter. The absorption energy is calculated using the molecular dynamic simulation method, and the best parameters for the preparation of the nanolubricant are obtained. The developed nanolubricant is used in the rolling process. The results show that the processing quality of samples is promoted and the tribological properties of water-based lubricant can be significantly promoted by an Fe3O4 nanoparticle additive. An economical and environmentally friendly method is presented through which the water-based Fe3O4 nanolubricant can be prepared for the replacement of oil-based lubricant in cold rolling strips.

Abstract
Maternal endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) exposure, the common environmental pollutants, was capable of involving in adverse pregnancy outcomes. However, the evidence of their connection is not consistent. Our goal was to comprehensively explore the risk of EDCs related to adverse pregnancy outcomes. One hundred and one studies were included from two databases before 2023 to explore the association between EDCs and adverse pregnancy outcomes including miscarriage, small for gestational age (SGA), low birth weight (LBW) and preterm birth (PTB). We found that maternal PFASs exposure was positively correlated with PTB (OR:1.13, 95% CI:1.04-1.23), SGA (OR:1.10, 95% CI:1.04-1.16) and miscarriage (OR:1.09, 95% CI:1.00-1.19). The pooled estimates also showed maternal PAEs exposure was linked with PTB (OR:1.16, 95% CI:1.11-1.21), SGA (OR:1.20, 95% CI:1.07-1.35) and miscarriage (OR:1.55, 95% CI:1.33-1.81). In addition, maternal exposure to some specific class of EDCs including PFOS, MBP, MEHP, DEHP, and BPA was associated with PTB. Maternal exposure to PFOS, PFOA, PFHpA was associated with SGA. Maternal exposure to BPA was associated with LBW. Maternal exposure to MMP, MEHP, MEHHP, MEOHP, BPA was associated with miscarriage. Maternal PFASs, PAEs and BPA exposure may increase adverse pregnancy outcomes risk according to our study. However, the limited number of studies on dose-response hampered further explanation for causal association.

Abstract
To investigate whether intermittent theta burst stimulation over the cerebellum induces changes in resting-state electroencephalography microstates in patients with subacute stroke and its correlation with cognitive and emotional function. Twenty-four stroke patients and 17 healthy controls were included in this study. Patients and healthy controls were assessed at baseline, including resting-state electroencephalography and neuropsychological scales. Fifteen patients received lateral cerebellar intermittent theta burst stimulation as well as routine rehabilitation training (intermittent theta burst stimulation-RRT group), whereas 9 patients received only conventional rehabilitation training (routine rehabilitation training group). After 2 wk, baseline data were recorded again in both groups. Stroke patients exhibited reduced parameters in microstate D and increased parameters in microstate C compared with healthy controls. However, after the administration of intermittent theta burst stimulation over the lateral cerebellum, significant alterations were observed in the majority of metrics for both microstates D and C. Lateral cerebellar intermittent theta burst stimulation combined with conventional rehabilitation has a stronger tendency to improve emotional and cognitive function in patients with subacute stroke than conventional rehabilitation. The improvement of mood and cognitive function was significantly associated with microstates C and D. We identified electroencephalography microstate spatiotemporal dynamics associated with clinical improvement following a course of intermittent theta burst stimulation therapy.

Abstract
Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have emerged as crucial regulators across diverse biological processes and diseases. While high-throughput sequencing has enabled lncRNA discovery, functional characterization remains limited. The EVLncRNAs database is the first and exclusive repository for all experimentally validated functional lncRNAs from various species. After previous releases in 2018 and 2021, this update marks a major expansion through exhaustive manual curation of nearly 25 000 publications from 15 May 2020, to 15 May 2023. It incorporates substantial growth across all categories: a 154% increase in functional lncRNAs, 160% in associated diseases, 186% in lncRNA-disease associations, 235% in interactions, 138% in structures, 234% in circular RNAs, 235% in resistant lncRNAs and 4724% in exosomal lncRNAs. More importantly, it incorporated additional information include functional classifications, detailed interaction pathways, homologous lncRNAs, lncRNA locations, COVID-19, phase-separation and organoid-related lncRNAs. The web interface was substantially improved for browsing, visualization, and searching. ChatGPT was tested for information extraction and functional overview with its limitation noted. EVLncRNAs 3.0 represents the most extensive curated resource of experimentally validated functional lncRNAs and will serve as an indispensable platform for unravelling emerging lncRNA functions. Abstract
Background Very early distant metastasis (VEDM) for patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) following surgery suggests failure of local treatment strategy and few biomarkers are available for its effective risk stratification. This study aimed to explore the potential of quantitative dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) spectral parameters and build models to predict VEDM. Methods Consecutive patients suspected of having CRC and with a clinical indication for enhanced CT from April 2021 to July 2022 at a single institution were prospectively enrolled to undertake spectral CT scanning. The spectral features were extracted by two reviewers and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was used for interobserver agreement evaluation. A total of 16 spectral parameters, including unenhanced effective atomic number, triphasic iodine concentrations (ICs)/normalized ICs (NICs)-A/V/E/1/NIC-A/V/E/spectral curve slopes (λ-A/V/E), two arterial enhancement fractions (AEFs), and venous enhancement fraction (VEF), were determined for analysis. Patients with and without VEDM after surgery were matched using propensity score matching (PSM). The diagnostic performance was assessed using the area under the curve (AUC). Models of multiple modalities were generated. Results In total, 222 patients were included (141 males, age range, 32-83 years) and 13 patients developed VEDM. Interobserver agreement ranged from good to excellent (ICC, 0.773-0.964). A total of three spectral parameters (VEF, λ-V, and 1/NIC-V) exhibited significant discriminatory ability (P<0.05) in predicting VEDM, with AUCs of 0.822 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.667-0.926], 0.738 (95% CI: 0.573-0.866), and 0.713 (95% CI: 0.546-0.846) and optimal cutoff points of 67.16%, 2.46, and 2.44, respectively. The performance of these spectral parameters was validated in the entire cohort; the combined spectral model showed comparable efficiency to the combined clinical model [AUC, 0.771 (95% CI: 0.622-0.919) vs. 0.779 (95% CI: 0.663-0.894), P>0.05]; the clinical-spectral model achieved further improved AUC of 0.887 (95% CI: 0.812-0.962), which was significantly higher than the combined clinical model (P=0.015), yet not superior to the combined spectral model (P=0.078). Conclusions Novel spectral parameters showed potential in predicting VEDM in CRC following surgery in this preliminary study, which were closely related with spectral perfusion in the venous phase. However, further studies with larger samples are warranted.
