Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIM RF/J mice are a model of spontaneous immune complex mediated glomerulonephritis showing massive extracellular matrix accumulation and progressive glomerulosclerosis. The aim of this study was to investigate whether there is an altered cultured mesangial cell (MC) phenotype in RF/J mice associated with these glomerular changes. METHODS The nature of cultured MCs from RF/J mice in the proliferative response to platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) BB was compared with that of normal mice (BALB/c) by 3H-thymidine incorporation. The binding of PDGF-BB was examined with Scatchard analysis, and the messenger RNAs (mRNAs) of PDGF beta-receptor, collagen I, collagen IV, and fibronectin were detected using Northern blot analysis in the MCs of each mouse. RESULTS The 3H-thymidine incorporation of MCs from RF/J mice showed significantly lower responses to PDGF-BB stimulations with concentrations ranging from 0.5 to 10.0 ng/ml in comparison with those of BALB/c mice which exhibited a proportional dose- dependent increase of the incorporation (p < 0.05 for 0.5 ng/ml PDGF-BB, p < 0.01 for 1.0-10.0 ng/ml). According to the Scatchard analysis, MCs from BALB/c mice showed aKD of 105 pM of PDGF-BB binding to its receptors, and the density of receptors was 5.82 fmol/10(5) cells. However, no binding PDGF-BB site on the surface of MCs from RF/J mice was noted. Northern blot analysis of MCs from RF/J mice indicated negative expression of detectable PDGF-beta receptor mRNA. As for matrix protein messages, MCs from RF/J mice did not express mRNA of type I collagen, but did express a higher amount of type IV collagen and fibronectin in comparison with MCs from normal BALB/c mice. CONCLUSIONS An altered phenotype in MCs of RF/J mice was demonstrated, possibly contributing to the characteristic pathological glomerular changes. However, the precise association remains to be clarified.

Abstract
Scirrhous gastric carcinoma, characterized by carcinoma cell proliferation and infiltration with extensive fibrosis in the stroma, frequently causes peritoneal metastasis. We describe here a newly established cell line, OCUM-6, derived from ascites effusion of a scirrhous gastric cancer patient. The cells are floating and round shape, similar to other scirrhous gastric carcinoma cell lines previously reported. Histologic findings of xenografted tumor obtained from OCUM-6 cells showed medullary growth with a poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma containing signet ring cells. LOH at E-cadherin locus 16q22 was observed in the OCUM-6 cells. LOH at E-cadherin locus might be closely associated with histologic findings and metastatic process of scirrhous gastric cancer. The scirrhous gastric cancer cell line, OCUM-6, may be useful for investigation of the mechanisms of peritoneal dissemination and carcinogenesis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIMS Recently, we established a high serum IgA-prone inbred (HIGA) mouse strain as a murine model of spontaneous IgA nephropathy by selective mating of high serum IgA ddY mice, and found that they showed enhanced production of glomerular extracellular matrix components with increased expression of TGF-beta mRNA and protein in the kidneys. In this study, we examined the roles of lymphocytes in the development of high serum IgA in this strain. METHODS We performed flow cytometric analyses of T and B cells in splenic mononuclear cells (SMNCs) from these mice using BALB/c mice as normal controls. We also compared serum TGF-beta1 concentrations and TGF-beta mRNA expression levels in the B-cell-depleted (T-cell-rich) fraction of SMNCs in these mice. RESULTS HIGA mice showed significantly fewer CD3-positive cells compared with BALB/c mice when young, but not when aged. The CD4/CD8 ratio of HIGA mice was lower than that of BALB/c mice, but this difference was not significant. Although the number of B220-positive cells did not vary significantly, the ratio of surface IgA-positive B cells was significantly increased in both young and adult HIGA mice. The B-cell-depleted SMNCs from HIGA mice exhibited higher levels of expression of TGF-beta and TGF-beta1 mRNA than controls from a young age, which were maintained throughout life, but there were no differences in PDGF, MCP-1 or bFGF expression between these two strains. In contrast to local mRNA expression, serum TGF-beta1 concentration was decreased in HIGA mice compared with BALB/c controls. CONCLUSION These findings suggest that the mating procedure performed to establish HIGA mice selected for a unique phenotype of local up-regulation of TGF-beta production in the kidneys, as well as T cells that may contribute to both the early and consistently high serum IgA expression and enhanced production of renal extracellular matrix components in HIGA mice. Additionally, TGF-beta1 may act locally, not systemically, in a paracrine or autocrine manner.

Abstract
We studied apoptosis and thymidylate synthase (TS) inductions by 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) in gastric cancer cells with wild-type p53 (MKN-45 and MKN-74) and with mutated p53 (MKN-28 and KATO-III). Apoptotic inductions in MKN-45 and MKN-74 were stronger than those in MKN-28 and KATO-III, suggesting that wild-type p53 may contribute to the induction of apoptosis. After continuous exposure to 0.1 microg/ml of 5-FU for 96 h, no TS induction was obtained in KATO-III, while approximately twice the amount of TS was observed compared to non-treatment cells in MKN-45, MKN-74, and MKN-28. The results of immunohistochemical staining for TS and p53 showed no relation between these two protein expressions in endoscopic biopsy specimens of 25 patients with advanced gastric cancer. These results indicated that p53 status may not play a pivotal role in regulating TS expression. We found no significantly different effects of 5-FU between intermittent (repeat of 24-h continuous infusion and 24-h drug-free) and continuous treatments in either MKN-28 or stem cells (CD34+ hematopoietic progenitor cells) when the same area under the time-concentration curve of 5-FU was administered. The TS induction in MKN-28 cells by intermittent treatment was significantly higher than that by continuous treatment; however, most TSs in both types of 5-FU treatment cells were of the inactive form, i.e., TS bound to FdUMP, a 5-FU metabolite. Therefore, neither intermittent nor continuous treatment appears to induce 5-FU resistance related to the level of increment free TS. In conclusion, our observations suggested that p53 mutation may be associated with apoptotic induction by 5-FU; however, p53 status may not strongly affect TS induction by 5-FU. Intermittent treatment can be replaced with continuous treatment without causing 5-FU resistance.

Abstract
TGF-betas are multifunctional polypeptides that regulate cell growth and differentiation, extracellular matrix deposition, cellular adhesion properties, angiogenesis and immune functions. In this study, we investigated the effect of TGF-beta1 on liver metastasis and its mechanism by using human pancreatic cancer cell lines Panc-1, Capan-2, and SW1990. Capan-2 and SW1990 cells demonstrated enhanced liver metastatic potential by in vivo splenic injection with TGF-beta1. Consequently, we examined the role of TGF-beta1 on in vitro angiogenesis and received cytotoxicity by peripheral blood mononuclear leukocytes (PBMLs). While TGF-beta1 slightly decreased cell proliferation, it also upregulated VEGF production in all cancer cells examined. The binding of PBMLs to cancer cells and cancer cell cytotoxicity during co-culture with PBMLs were remarkably decreased by treatment with TGF-beta1. Panc-1 cells revealed no liver metastasis despite their high immunogenetic and angiogenetic abilities, which was attributed to a lack of expression of the cell surface carbohydrates that induce attachment to endothelial cells. We concluded that the presence of TGF-beta1 in the microenvironment of tumour site might play an important role in enhancing liver metastasis of pancreatic cancer by modulating the capacity of angiogenesis and immunogenicity.

Abstract
Solid tumors require neovascularization for growth and metastasis. Angiogenesis depends on the local balance between various molecules that induce and inhibit neovascularization. Thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1) is thought to be an antiangiogenic factor. In this study, we examined the correlation between expression of TSP-1 and tumor vascularity, and determined its prognostic significance in colon cancer. Microvessel density, determined by immunostaining for factor VIII-related antigen, was significantly higher in tumors that were TSP-1-negative. TSP-1 expression was inversely correlated with prognosis. Patients with TSP-1-negative tumors had a significantly worse prognosis than did those with TSP-1-positive tumors. Frequency of hepatic recurrence was significantly higher in patients with tumors that were TSP-1-negative. In conclusion, TSP-1 is an important negative-regulator of tumor angiogenesis, and TSP-1 may be useful for predicting recurrence in patients with colon cancer.

Abstract
Lymph node metastasis is the most frequent type of tumor recurrence and is known to be one reason for the poor prognosis in patients with digestive cancer. However, the mechanisms of lymph node metastasis are not clearly understood and a metastatic model will be useful for elucidating factors associated with lymph node metastases. In this study, we investigated the effect of R-94138, a matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) inhibitor, on the lymphnodal metastatic ability of gastric cancer cells using an in vivo orthotopic implantation model in nude mice. Injection of a gastric cancer cell line, MKN-45, into the gastric wall resulted in lymph node metastasis 8 weeks after inoculation. The number of lymph node metastases and the amount of body weight loss significantly decreased by intraperitoneal administration of R-94138. Histologically, lymphatic invasion of cancer cells was found in primary gastric tumors of control mice with lymph node metastasis. However, no lymphatic invasion was observed in the gastric wall of R-94138-treated mice without lymph node metastasis. These findings suggested that the MMP inhibitor, R-94138, could be used in adjunctive therapy for lymph node metastasis in gastric carcinoma.

Abstract
Breast-cancer cells frequently invade into the skin. However, few reports have described the mechanisms responsible for this invasion. In this study, we investigated the effects of skin fibroblasts on the invasion ability of breast-cancer cells, using a modification of Boyden's chamber method, and purified an invasion-stimulating factor from fibroblasts. Conditioned medium of skin fibroblasts, DF-1, significantly stimulated the invasion ability of breast-cancer cells, OCUB-1. The invasion-stimulating factor produced from skin fibroblasts was then partially purified and characterized. The soluble invasion-stimulating factor of fibroblasts was a protein of 77 kDa, as calculated by SDS-PAGE. Although TGF-alpha and bFGF stimulated the invasion of OCUB-1, no inhibition of the 77 kDa factor was achieved with neutralizing antibodies against TGF-alpha and bFGF. These findings suggest that the 77 kDa factor derived from skin fibroblasts might be unique, might play an important role in invasion to the skin and might explain the frequent skin invasion in breast carcinoma.

Abstract
Colorectal adenomas can be morphologically classified as exophytic or flat. Polypoid cancers and cancers arising de novo (ie., without any adenomatous component) might be the results of genetic progression from exophytic and flat adenomas, respectively. In this study, we examined 94 morphologically distinct neoplastic specimens for mutations in K-RAS and analyzed 10 microsatellite loci tightly linked to the tumor suppressor genes APC, p53, DCC/SMAD4, hMSH2, and hMLH1. K-RAS mutations were significantly associated with exophytic adenomas [11 of 21 (52%)] compared to flat adenomas [2 of 13(15%), P < 0.03] and polypoid cancers [17 of 25 (68%)] compared to cancers arising de novo [7 of 25 (28%), P < 0.01]. Two polypoid cancer cases demonstrated three and four different K-RAS mutations, respectively, suggesting multiple areas of clonal expansion. Cancers arising de novo were significantly associated with loss of heterozygosity (LOH) at chromosome 3p compared to pol ypoid cancers [6 of 18(33%) versus 1 of 20(5%), P < 0.03], whereas the prevalence of LOH at chromosomes 2p, 5q, 17p, and 18q and microsatellite instability were not different between the groups. For all cancers, LOH at chromosomes 17p and 18q occurred in 47 and 51%, respectively. However, LOH at 17p and 18q occurred in 0 and 16% of benign lesions, respectively, suggesting their role in malignant transformation. There was no difference in LOH at chromosomes 17p and 18q between exophytic and flat lesions. These findings suggest that (a) mutant K-RAS is associated with the exophytic growth of colonic neoplasms, and that (b) some colorectal cancers arising de novo lose chromosome 3p during their evolution, which is not seen in polypoid cancers. Half of all cancers lose chromosomes 17p and 18q at or near the malignant transition of benign lesions as reported previously, irrespective of morphology. There may be more than one genetic avenue for colorectal cancer formation, and this correlates with the morphological characteristics.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To describe the results of a nationwide epidemiologic survey of Kawasaki disease for the 2-year period 1997 and 1998. DESIGN We sent a questionnaire to all hospitals with 100 beds or more throughout Japan (2663 hospitals) requesting data on patients with Kawasaki disease. Study items included name, sex, date of birth, date of initial hospital visit, diagnosis, address, recurrence, sibling cases, gammaglobulin treatment, and cardiac lesion in the acute stage or 1 month after onset. RESULTS Of the 2663 hospitals, 68.5% responded, reporting 12 966 patients-7489 males and 5477 females. Of the total patients reported, 6373 (incidence rate of 108.0 per 100 000 children <5 years old) occurred in 1997, and 6593 (111.7) in 1998. More than one half of the patients (54.9%) were <2 years old and 81.6% were <4 years old. In males, the incidence rates of cardiac lesions were 27.2 in the acute stage and 10.1 a month after onset. In females, the rates were 16.7 and 5.2, respectively. The incidence rates of cardiac lesions were highest in the youngest age group (<6 months old) both in the acute stage and 1 month after onset. The rates decreased with increasing ages. Although frequency of giant aneurysms was not high at the acute stage, it did not decrease 1 month after onset. CONCLUSION The incidence rates have been steadily increasing for 11 years since 1987. The rate in 1998 was over 1.5 times higher than that in 1987. The age and sex distributions were identical in each survey. Although most of the cardiac lesions at the acute stage decreased to half or less 1 month after onset, giant aneurysms did not decrease and existed persistently after 1 month.

Abstract
We investigated LOH on 5q, 16q, 17p, 17q, and 18q in scirrhous gastric cancer and identified the chromosomal locus that is frequently deleted in scirrhous gastric cancer. LOH frequency on 18q of scirrhous gastric cancer was found to be significantly higher than that of the other types of advanced gastric cancer, while no significant difference between LOH at 5q, 16q, 17p and 17q was found. Eight microsatellite markers on chromosome 18q were additionally examined in scirrhous gastric cancer. The highest rates of LOH were observed at the D18S34 locus which is located at 18q12.2. These findings suggest that the D18S34 locus might be a novel candidate tumor suppressor locus in scirrhous gastric carcinoma.

Abstract
Scirrhous gastric cancer is often accompanied by metastasis to the peritoneum and/or lymph nodes, resulting in the highest mortality rate among gastric cancers. Mechanisms involved in gastric cancer metastasis are not fully clarified because metastasis involves multiple steps and requires the accumulation of altered expression of many different genes. Thus, independent analysis of any single gene would be insufficient to understand all of the aspects of gastric cancer metastasis. In this study, we performed global analysis on differential gene expression of a scirrhous gastric cancer cell line (OCUM-2M) and its derivative sublines with high potential for metastasis to the peritoneal cavity (OCUM-2MD3) and lymph nodes (OCUM-2MLN) in a nude mice model. By applying a high-density oligonucleotide array method, expression of approximately 6800 genes was analyzed, and selected genes were confirmed by the Northern blot method. In our observations in OCUM-2MD3 cells, 12 genes were up-regulated, and 20 genes were down-regulated. In OCUM-2MLN cells, five genes were up-regulated, and five genes were down-regulated. The analysis revealed two functional gene clusters with altered expression: (a) down-regulation of a cluster of squamous cell differentiation marker genes such as small proline-rich proteins [SPRRs (SPRR1A, SPRR1B, and SPRR2A], annexin A1, epithelial membrane protein 1, cellular retinoic acid-binding protein 2, and mesothelin in OCUM-2MD3 cells; and (b) up-regulation of a cluster of antigen-presenting genes such as MHC class II (DP, DR, and DM) and invariant chain (II) in OCUM-2MLN cells through up-regulation of CIITA (MHC class II transactivator). We then analyzed six gastric cancer cell lines by Northern blot and observed preferential up-regulation of trefoil factor 1, alpha-1-antitrypsin, and galectin 4 and down-regulation of cytidine deaminase in cells prone to peritoneal dissemination. Genes highly correlated with invasion or peritoneal dissemination of gastric cancer, such as E-cadherin or integrin beta4, were down-regulated in both of the derivative cell lines analyzed in this study. This is the first demonstration of global gene expression analysis of gastric cancer cells with different metastatic potentials, and these results provide a new insight in the study of human gastric cancer metastasis.

Abstract
PURPOSE To verify the validity of the infectious disease surveillance system in Japan using data for Kawasaki disease. MATERIALS AND METHODS Data from nationwide surveys of Kawasaki disease conducted by the Kawasaki Disease Research Committee every two years over the 10 years (120 months) from 1989 through 1998 were used to calculate a gold standard. Then, the monthly numbers of patients with Kawasaki disease reported by monitoring hospitals (about 550 hospitals) to the surveillance system were compared with this gold standard. Each of the monthly numbers was standardized by division by the average monthly number of patients over the 120 months. Observations for 3 districts (eastern part, central part, and western part of Japan) were conducted as well as for the whole country. RESULTS The number of patients reported to the surveillance system varied more widely than in the nationwide survey, but directions of the fluctuations were similar to the chronologic changes in nationwide numbers. Accordingly, a high correlation coefficient value of 0.794 was obtained (p < 0.01). Similar results were observed in all 3 districts. The correlation coefficients were 0.709 for the eastern part, 0.561 for the central part, and 0.712 for the western part, respectively, and all of them were of statistically significant. CONCLUSION Changes in number of patients with Kawasaki disease reported to the surveillance system resemble the pattern of the gold standard.

To investigate how the interruption of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) and reduction of blood pressure (BP) affect the lesions of chronic focal and segmental glomerulosclerosis (FGS), we studied the effects of high and low doses of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (temocapril - TEM) a newly developed ACE inhibitor with biliary tract excretion, on the hypertensive model of FGS. A high dose of TEM significantly lowered BP and suppressed both intense proteinuria and glomerular extracapillary lesions including macrophage infiltration. On the other hand, although a low dose of TEM did not significantly lower BP throughout the experimental period, it prevented renal lesions almost in the same manner as high-dose TEM with suppression of c-myc gene expression in glomeruli. These findings suggest that in PAN-induced chronic FGS, the systemic BP elevation could not be the major factor for the progression of renal damage which TEM could prevent without significant lowering of BP.

Abstract
Oligopeptides are efficiently hydrolyzed by Ce(IV) to the corresponding amino acids under mild conditions. The pseudo first-order rate constants for the hydrolysis of H-Gly-Phe-OH and H-Gly-Gly-OH at pH 7.0 and 50 degrees C are 3.5 x 10(-1) and 2.8 x 10(-1) h(-1), with [Ce(NH4)2(NO3)6]0=10mM (the half-lives are 2.0 and 2.5 h). The catalytic activity of the Ce(IV) is far greater than those of other lanthanide ions and non-lanthanide ions. No oxidative cleavage was observed under the reaction conditions. Catalytic turnover of the Ce(IV) was also evidenced. The hydrolysis is fast especially when the substrates have no metal-coordinating side chains. Tripeptides and tetrapeptides are hydrolyzed at the similar rates as the dipeptides. In the hydrolysis of tripeptides, the amide linkage near the N-terminus is preferentially hydrolyzed. Neither the N-carbobenzyloxy derivative nor the amide of H-Gly-Phe-OH is hydrolyzed to a measurable extent, showing that both the terminal amino group and the carboxylate are coordinated to the Ce(IV) ion. This complexation is further confirmed by 1H NMR spectroscopy. The Ce(IV) ion is therefore one of the most active catalysts for peptide hydrolysis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND MMPs have been implicated in the process of metastasis. Matlystatin analogue, called R-94138, isolated from Actinomadura atramentaria, has been reported to inhibit the activity of MMP-2 and -9 specifically. In this study, we investigated the effect of R-94138 on the invasive and lymphnodal metastatic ability of gastric cancer cells. MATERIALS AND METHODS Three gastric cancer cell lines, MKN-28, MKN-45, MKN-74, and two colorectal cancer cell lines, HT-29, and LS174T were used. The invasion ability of these cell lines were assayed with R-94138 at the required concentration in vitro. The In vivo effect of R-94138 on lymphnode metastasis was examined passaged by orthotopic implantation. RESULTS All cell lines revealed activity of both 72 and 92 kDa forms of MMPs by gelatin zymography. R-94138 significantly inhibited the invasiveness of all of these cells to the extracellular matrix. The number of lymph node metastases and the amount of body weight loss were significantly decreased by intraperitoneal administration of R-94138. CONCLUSION MMP inhibitor, R-94138, has a possible application in adjunctive therapy for lymph node metastasis in gastric carcinoma.

Abstract
The cases of 3 female patients with metastatic breast cancer treated with oral UFT and cyclophosphamide (CPA) are reported. Patient 1 had lymph node and bone metastases. Patient 2 had bone metastasis. Patient 3 had skin, lymph node, and peritoneal metastases. All had a history of mastectomy and chemo- and/or endocrine therapy for metastatic lesions. Patients 2 and 3 had also undergone CAF combination chemotherapy. However, the lesions did not change. UFT 400 mg and CPA 100 mg, everyday, were administered to patient 1. UFT 400 mg and CPA 100 mg, 2 weeks, and UFT 400 mg, 2 weeks, were given every 4 weeks to patient 2. UFT 300 mg and CPA 150 mg, 6 weeks per 8 weeks were given to patient 3. Improvements in the metastatic lesions were seen 4 weeks after the beginning of UFT and CPA therapy. Therapy is now continuing, and no patients had a progression of the disease. All had leukopenia 2 or 4 weeks after the beginning of this therapy, and two temporarily stopped the therapy. No other side-effect was observed. Oral UFT and CPA combination therapy was considered useful for metastatic breast cancer. To prevent leukopenia and prolong the term of treatment efficacy, a treatment regimen will need to be established.

Abstract
Recent studies have shown that caspases, which are cystein proteases, elevate endonuclease activity and induce apoptosis. Caspase-1, an interleukin-1beta converting enzyme, has been reported to be related with anti-cancer drug induced apoptosis as well as with caspase-3. To elucidate the caspase-1 activity, which might be a predictor for the effect of chemotherapy, we examined the changes of caspase-1 activity induced after exposure to cisplatin (CDDP) in six gastric cancer cell lines. A high correlation between the 50% inhibitory concentration (IC50) and caspase-1 activity ratio was shown (r=0.83, p=0.041) (caspase-1 activity ratio: the caspase-1 activity of cells at 4 h after CDDP treatment/the caspase-1 activity of untreated cells). Further, we examined the correlation between caspase-1 activity and apoptosis induced by CDDP in two cell lines that have very different CDDP sensitivities; OCUM-2M and OCUM-2M/DDP (IC50; 0. 85+/-0.4 microg/ml and 9.0+/-1.2 microg/ml, respectively). The apoptotic index of OCUM-2M was significantly higher than that of OCUM-2M/DDP (19.8+/-3.8% vs. 4.5+/-1.2%, respectively; p=0.0005). In both cell lines, caspase-1 activity began to increase immediately after exposure to CDDP and peaked at approximately 4 h after cessation of exposure to CDDP, and gradually decreased thereafter. The caspase-1 activity of OCUM-2M was approximately 1.8-times higher than that of OCUM-2M/DDP at 4 h after exposure to CDDP. Taken together, our results indicate that evaluating the changes of caspase-1 activity after exposure to CDDP may be useful to predict apoptosis following CDDP treatment in gastric cancer cells.

Abstract
Recently, it was reported that an EMS (expandable metallic stent) was useful for treatment of colorectal obstruction. In our department, EMSs were used for seven patients with left-sided colonic obstruction with unresectable malignant disease. After these treatments with EMS, their symptoms were improved and they were able to intake food. Stomal formation was avoided except in one patient with severe soiling. In conclusion, EMS is thought to be useful for the improvement of quality of life in the patients with unresectable malignant colonic obstruction.

Abstract
Lymph node metastasis is one of the prognostic factors in gastric cancer. We have previously reported that decreased intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) expression on cancer cells is associated with lymph node metastasis using a gastric cancer cell. In this study, we transfected ICAM-1 gene into a gastric cancer cell line, 2MLN, and analyzed the effect on lymph node metastasis in vitro and in vivo. A significantly greater amount of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) adhered to ICAM-1 transfected 2MLN cells, 2MLN / ICAM cells, than to 2MLN / Vector cells. The lysis of 2MLN / ICAM cells by PBMC was significantly increased compared with that of 2MLN / Vector cells. The tumor growth rate of 2MLN / ICAM cells was significantly decreased in vivo. Lymph node metastases caused by 2MLN / ICAM cells were recognized as being fewer in number and smaller, while many lymph node metastases were caused by 2MLN cells. Histologic findings showed that leukocytes were heavily infiltrated in both the 2MLN / ICAM tumors and metastatic lesions, while only a few leukocytes were observed in the lesions associated with 2MLN cells. The above findings indicate that ICAM-1 gene transduction could prove to be an effective gene therapy for lymph node metastasis of gastric cancer.
