Abstract
Rotavirus gastroenteritis is a major cause of severe dehydrating diarrhea in children worldwide. Group A rotavirus causes approximately 40% of hospitalization for diarrhea among under 5 years children. Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE) and silver staining was applied to detect rotavirus dsRNA from acute diarrheic stool of 776 hospitalized children below five years. The study was conducted in Mymensingh district, Bangladesh from January 2013 to December 2014. Among 776 stool specimens tested 368(47.4%) were positive by PAGE. Among 368 positive 341(92.5%) showed clearly stained electrophoretic patterns of viral RNA which enabled their classification into different electropherotypes. The rate of infection was highest in children of 7-12 months of age and infection rate was more in winter. RNA profiles of the analyzed specimens, 164/341 (48%) were long and 177/341 (52%) were short patterns. Mixed electropherotypes (2%) among 368 were also detected. Electropherotyping technique could be an applied excellent method for studying genomic variation, tracing mixed infections, detecting atypical rotaviruses.

Abstract
The aim of this paper is to investigate the information aggregation methods under induced interval-valued Pythagorean trapezoidal fuzzy environment. Some Einstein operational laws on Pythagorean trapezoidal fuzzy numbers are defined based on Einstein sum and Einstein product. In this paper, we introduce the idea of induced interval-valued Pythagorean trapezoidal fuzzy Einstein ordered weighted geometric (I-IVPTFEOWG) operator and induced interval-valued Pythagorean trapezoidal fuzzy Einstein hybrid geometric (I-IVPTFEHG) operator. We discuss some basic properties of the proposed operator, including idempotency, commutativity and monotonicity. We construct an algorithm for multiple attribute group decision making problem, and apply the proposed aggregation operator to deal with multiple attribute group decision making. Finally we construct a numerical example for multiple attribute group decision making and compare the result with existing methods.

Abstract
Tendon transfers for radial nerve palsy is a common operation with good results. We did a retrospective study on twenty patients with radial nerve palsy who underwent tendon transfer surgery and recovered between January 2008 and December 2012. Outcomes measured were motor power of wrist extension, finger extension, grip strength and DASH scores. There was significant improvement of motor power of wrist and finger extension between the preoperative period and three months post-operatively, between the pre operative period and six months post operatively and between three and six months postoperatively (p = 0.0005). Grip strength improved significantly as well between preoperative, three and six months postoperatively (p = 0.0005). DASH scores reflecting patient satisfaction at six months postoperatively showed only mild or moderate difficulty of function.

Abstract
Ticks were collected during March-July 2015 from dogs by veterinarians throughout the U.K. and used to estimate current prevalences and distributions of pathogens. DNA was extracted from 4750 ticks and subjected to polymerase chain reaction and sequence analysis to identify Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato (Spirochaetales: Spirochaetaceae) and Babesia (Piroplasmida: Babesiidae) species. Of 4737 ticks [predominantly Ixodes ricinus Linneaus (Ixodida: Ixodidae)], B. burgdorferi s.l. was detected in 94 (2.0%). Four Borrelia genospecies were identified: Borrelia garinii (41.5%); Borrelia afzelli (31.9%); Borrelia burgdorferi sensu stricto (25.5%), and Borrelia spielmanii (1.1%). One Rhipicephalus sanguineus Latreille (Ixodida: Ixodidae), collected from a dog with a history of travel outside the U.K., was positive for B. garinii. Seventy ticks (1.5%) were positive for Babesia spp. Of these, 84.3% were positive for Babesia venatorum, 10.0% for Babesia vulpes sp. nov., 2.9% for Babesia divergens/Babesia capreoli and 1.4% for Babesia microti. One isolate of Babesia canis was detected in a Dermacentor reticulatus (Ixodida: Ixodidae) tick collected from a dog that had recently travelled to France. Prevalences of B. burgdorferi s.l. and Babesia spp. did not differ significantly between different regions of the U.K. The results map the widespread distribution of B. burgdorferi s.l. and Babesia spp. in ticks in the U.K. and highlight the potential for the introduction and establishment of exotic ticks and tick-borne pathogens.

Abstract
Porous asymmetric polyetherimide (PEI) hollow fiber membranes with various non-solvent additives, e.g. lithium chloride, methanol and phosphoric acid (PA) were prepared for CO2 absorption and stripping process in a membrane contractor. The PEI membranes were characterized via gas permeation, liquid entry pressure of water (LEPw), contact angle and field emission scanning electronic microscopy analysis. The CO2 absorption and stripping performance was evaluated via the membrane contactor system. Addition of non-solvent additives increased the LEPw and membrane porosity of the PEI membrane with the formation of various membrane microstructures and contact angles. Absorption test was performed at 40 °C showed that the PEI–PA membrane produced the highest absorption flux of 2.7 × 10−2 mol m−2 s−1 at 0.85 m s−1 of liquid velocity. Further testing on PEI–PA membrane was conducted on CO2 stripping at 60 °C, 70 °C to 80 °C and the results indicated that the stripping flux was lower compared to the absorption flux. Stripping tests at 80 °C produced the highest stripping flux which might due to the increase in equilibrium partial pressure of CO2 in the liquid absorbent. Modification of PEI membrane via incorporation of additive can enhanced the performance of a membrane contactor via increasing the absorption and stripping flux. Porous asymmetric polyetherimide (PEI) hollow fiber membranes with various non-solvent additives, e.g. lithium chloride, methanol and phosphoric acid (PA) were prepared for a CO2 absorption and stripping process in a membrane contractor.![]()

Abstract
The recent implication of Dermacentor reticulatus (Ixodida: Ixodidae) in the transmission of canine babesiosis in the U.K. has highlighted the lack of accurate published data on its distribution in this country. This paper aims to collate and appraise historical data for D. reticulatus, to supplement such data with more recent surveillance data and to report on field sampling conducted during 2009-2016. These updated data facilitate better understanding of the current distribution of this tick in the U.K., which will better inform disease risk assessments. There appear to be four known regions of the U.K. in which D. reticulatus currently occurs, including western Wales, North and South Devon, and Essex. The majority of foci are located in coastal sand dunes and maritime grasslands, including grazing marsh. However, more recently the tick has been detected in urban greenspace in Essex. The emergence of this tick as a vector of babesiosis in the U.K. and its recent apparent spread in Essex into urban greenspace highlight the need for continued surveillance and for further research into its status as a vector of human and veterinary pathogens.

Abstract
Rice (Oryza sativa L.) blast disease is one of the most destructive rice diseases in the world. The fungal pathogen, Magnaporthe oryzae, is the causal agent of rice blast disease. Development of resistant cultivars is the most preferred method to achieve sustainable rice production. However, the effectiveness of resistant cultivars is hindered by the genetic plasticity of the pathogen genome. Therefore, information on genetic resistance and virulence stability are vital to increase our understanding of the molecular basis of blast disease resistance. The present study set out to elucidate the resistance pattern and identify potential simple sequence repeat markers linked with rice blast disease. A backcross population (BC2F1), derived from crossing MR264 and Pongsu Seribu 2 (PS2), was developed using marker-assisted backcross breeding. Twelve microsatellite markers carrying the blast resistance gene clearly demonstrated a polymorphic pattern between both parental lines. Among these, two markers, RM206 and RM5961, located on chromosome 11 exhibited the expected 1:1 testcross ratio in the BC2F1 population. The 195 BC2F1 plants inoculated against M. oryzae pathotype P7.2 showed a significantly different distribution in the backcrossed generation and followed Mendelian segregation based on a single-gene model. This indicates that blast resistance in PS2 is governed by a single dominant gene, which is linked to RM206 and RM5961 on chromosome 11. The findings presented in this study could be useful for future blast resistance studies in rice breeding programs.

Abstract
The eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E (eIF4E) is a potent oncogene that is found to be dysregulated in 30% of human cancer, including colorectal carcinogenesis (CRC). ISIS 183750 is a second-generation antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) designed to inhibit the production of the eIF4E protein. In preclinical studies we found that EIF4e ASOs reduced expression of EIF4e mRNA and inhibited proliferation of colorectal carcinoma cells. An additive antiproliferative effect was observed in combination with irinotecan. We then performed a clinical trial evaluating this combination in patients with refractory cancer. No dose-limiting toxicities were seen but based on pharmacokinetic data and tolerability the dose of irinotecan was reduced to 160 mg/m(2) biweekly. Efficacy was evaluated in 15 patients with irinotecan-refractory colorectal cancer. The median time of disease control was 22.1 weeks. After ISIS 183750 treatment, peripheral blood levels of eIF4E mRNA were decreased in 13 of 19 patients. Matched pre- and posttreatment tumor biopsies showed decreased eIF4E mRNA levels in five of nine patients. In tumor tissue, the intracellular and stromal presence of ISIS 183750 was detected by IHC in all biopsied patients. Although there were no objective responses stable disease was seen in seven of 15 (47%) patients who were progressing before study entry, six of whom were stable at the time of the week 16 CT scan. We were also able to confirm through mandatory pre- and posttherapy tumor biopsies penetration of the ASO into the site of metastasis.

Abstract
Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTC) organisms form serpentine cords in fluid culture medium. Reporting of a presumptive identification of MTC based on cording allows rapid identification of patients with tuberculosis. A total of 612 positive mycobacterial cultures from 316 patients over 3 years (2008-2010) were evaluated for the presence of cord formation. Cording was identified in 426 (69.6%) specimens, while the reference laboratory confirmed M. tuberculosis in 424 specimens (69.3%). Sensitivity of the test in our laboratory was 99.1% (95%CI 97.4-99.7) and specificity was 96.8% (95%CI 92.8-98.7). Presumptive identification of M. tuberculosis by the presence of cording formation is both sensitive and specific.

Abstract
One thousand and forty-five tissue samples of skeletal muscles, tongue, heart, diaphragm and esophagus were collected from 209 animals (43 sheep, 89 goats and 77 cattle) from an abattoir in Selangor between February and October, 2013. Each sample was divided into three pieces with each piece measuring 2-3 mm3. Each piece was then squeezed between two glass slides and examined microscopically at x 10 magnification for the presence of sarcocystosis. Three positive samples from each animal species were then fixed in 10% formalin for histological processing. Seven positive samples collected from each animal species were preserved at -80°C or 90% ethanol for gene expression studies. Microsarcocysts were detected in 114 (54.5%) animals by light microscopy (LM). The infection rates in sheep, goat and cattle were 86, 61.8 and 28.6% respectively. The highest rate of infection was in the skeletal muscles of sheep (64.9%) and goats (63.6%) and in the heart of cattle (63.6%). The cysts were spindle to oval in shape and two stages were recognized, the peripheral metrocytes and centrally located banana-shaped bradyzoites. 18S rRNA gene expression studies confirmed the isolates from the sheep as S. ovicanis, goats as S. capracanis and cattle as S. bovicanis. This, to the best of our knowledge, is the first molecular identification of an isolate of S. ovicanis and S. capracanis in Malaysia. Further studies with electron microscopy (EM) are required in the future to compare the features of different types of Sarcocysts spp.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The deadly Ebola virus has been first known to mankind since 1976. In the past decades, Ebola outbreaks has often been ignored/neglected as erupted in the rural remote/isolated areas of Africa. The recent 2013-2014 epidemic is the most wide-spread with high incidence rates, morbidity and, mortality in the Ebola history. Eventually, the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared it as a 'Public Health Concern of the International Community'. This scrutiny was conducted to initiate a serious debate on various aspects of Ebola, particularly blood transfusion as an empirical therapeutic modality. METHODS A search has been performed using the premier scientific databases, WHO documents, and English language search engines. Of 278 potential articles that were identified using a fixed set of criteria, a convenience sample of eighty-two appropriate articles was chosen for this review. RESULTS The current EBO outbreak is predominantly driven by various confounding risk-factors like: (1) frail health care system, (2) unique cultural and religious customs, (3) huge-shortage of skilled professionals, (4) no licensed therapeutic agents, (5) ill-prepared monitoring and early warning systems, and (6) strained budgets; all these have bolstered this epidemic. As lack of neither specific treatments nor reliable interventions to quickly quell this epidemic, WHO has indorsed 'blood transfusion as an empirical therapeutic modality'. Currently, several clinical trials are underway, particularly the two Ebola candidate vaccines and several antiviral drugs and it has been observed that the initial results are quite promising. However, there are several daunting ethical and practical challenges ahead to stem off this outbreak. CONCLUSIONS The Ebola-hit poverty stricken West-African countries struggle to contain the outbreak, due to lack of potent therapeutics. Consequently, blood-transfusion could serve as an ideal therapeutic modality to save millions of lives. Therefore, industrialized nations and international agencies must aid them to combat with this catastrophe. Besides, it must warrant further multi-layered interventions and interagency policies, in order to build an Ebola-free safe world in the near future.

Abstract
Scapulo-thoracic dissociation is an infrequent injury resulting from high energy trauma which is often associated with severe neurological and vascular injuries which may be unrecognised at the time of presentation. A 24 year-old female presented with bilateral rib fractures, pneumothorax, liver and kidney injuries following a road traffic accident. She also sustained fractures of her right scapula, odontoid, right transverse processes of the thoracic and lumbar vertebrae and a closed fracture of her right femur. Her right upper limb was later noted to be flail and pulseless, due to complete right brachial plexus injury, scapula-thoracic dissociation and subclavian artery avulsion. We managed the upper limb injuries non-operatively, and focused on resuscitation of the patient. Early exploration of the complete brachial plexus injury was not undertaken in spite of the possible associated poor functional outcome as there was no life-threatening indication.
