Abstract
Since cases first emerged in December 2019, COVID‐19 (a type of coronavirus) has rapidly become pandemic. This fast‐tracked paper (published quickly) from China on COVID‐19 is written by dermatologists at the epicentre of the outbreak in Wuhan. Dermatology clinic staff may be at risk because protective equipment is not routinely available, and skin lesions might possibly transmit the virus indirectly. These authors suggest preventive measures based on experience in this and previous coronavirus outbreaks. Online consultation for non‐urgent patients reduces the numbers of patients attending clinics. Nurse‐led triage, to identify patients with possible COVID‐19, at the entrances of hospital and skin clinics directs patients with a cough or fever to a specific COVID‐19 area and a dermatologist is consulted if the fever might be related to skin disease. Clinic staff wear N95 masks and observe hand hygiene during consultations. Patients are admitted to a ward only if routine blood tests and chest CT scans exclude COVID‐19. Triage will not detect patients who are showing no symptoms but who are developing the disease, so the hospital should provide an on‐call expert team to discuss inpatients suspected or diagnosed with COVID‐19 and refer them to radiology, respiratory or intensive care colleagues as required. Confirmed cases are managed following local policies. Skin disorders in COVID‐19 inpatients can usually be managed remotely using photographs, email and teleconferencing. If necessary a multidisciplinary team (a team of medical staff from different specialties) can meet in the clean area of the isolation ward. If the dermatologist must see the patient, all records should be provided in advance to minimise exposure time. With these precautions, as of 20th February 2020 no infected patients were detected in the Wuhan Dermatology Department. This is a summary of the study: Emergency management for preventing and controlling nosocomial infection of 2019 novel coronavirus: implications for the dermatology department Linked Article: Tao et al. Abstract
The first measurement at the LHC of charge-dependent directed flow (v_{1}) relative to the spectator plane is presented for Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV. Results are reported for charged hadrons and D^{0} mesons for the transverse momentum intervals p_{T}>0.2 GeV/c and 3<p_{T}<6 GeV/c in the 5%-40% and 10%-40% centrality classes, respectively. The difference between the positively and negatively charged hadron v_{1} has a positive slope as a function of pseudorapidity η, dΔv_{1}/dη=[1.68±0.49(stat)±0.41(syst)]×10^{-4}. The same measurement for D^{0} and D[over ¯]^{0} mesons yields a positive value dΔv_{1}/dη=[4.9±1.7(stat)±0.6(syst)]×10^{-1}, which is about 3 orders of magnitude larger than the one of the charged hadrons. These measurements can provide new insights into the effects of the strong electromagnetic field and the initial tilt of matter created in noncentral heavy ion collisions on the dynamics of light (u, d, and s) and heavy (c) quarks. The large difference between the observed Δv_{1} of charged hadrons and D^{0} mesons may reflect different sensitivity of the charm and light quarks to the early time dynamics of a heavy ion collision. These observations challenge some recent theoretical calculations, which predicted a negative and an order of magnitude smaller value of dΔv_{1}/dη for both light flavor and charmed hadrons.

Abstract
The first evidence of spin alignment of vector mesons (K^{*0} and ϕ) in heavy-ion collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is reported. The spin density matrix element ρ_{00} is measured at midrapidity (|y|<0.5) in Pb-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy (sqrt[s_{NN}]) of 2.76 TeV with the ALICE detector. ρ_{00} values are found to be less than 1/3 (1/3 implies no spin alignment) at low transverse momentum (p_{T}<2 GeV/c) for K^{*0} and ϕ at a level of 3σ and 2σ, respectively. No significant spin alignment is observed for the K_{S}^{0} meson (spin=0) in Pb-Pb collisions and for the vector mesons in pp collisions. The measured spin alignment is unexpectedly large but qualitatively consistent with the expectation from models which attribute it to a polarization of quarks in the presence of angular momentum in heavy-ion collisions and a subsequent hadronization by the process of recombination.

Abstract
Obesity and latent inflammation can give rise to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. Here we established an insulin resistance model of osteoblasts to explore the restoration effect of anti-inflammatory interleukin-4 (IL-4) on insulin sensitivity and its mechanism. We found that IL-4 inhibited cell proliferation in a concentration- and time-dependent manner. Insulation resistance significantly reduced the phosphorylation levels of the insulin receptor substrate 1 (IRS1; Tyr612), Akt (Ser473), and AS160 (Ser318) proteins. The addition of IL-4 to the insulin resistance model led to a dose-dependent stimulation of the phosphorylation of IRS1, Akt, and AS160. IL-4 fully restored the activation of the insulin cascade in insulin-resistant cells at the concentration of 50 ng/ml. Additionally, IL-4 promoted the expression of IRS1 in a time-dependent manner. We conjecture that IL-4 restores insulin sensitivity in osteoblasts by upregulating the expression of IRS1. It was also found that IL-4 promoted the expression of osteoprotegerin depending on the time of exposure. This effect may play an important role in the regulation of the energy metabolism in the whole body.

Abstract
1. Immune mapped protein-1 (IMP1) of E. maxima has been identified as a vaccine antigen candidate for E. maxima infection. 2. In the current study, the N- and C-terminal derivative of EmIMP1 were expressed in E. coli and administered to chickens. The antibody response, cell-mediated immune (CMI) response and the protective efficacy of the protein vaccines against E. maxima challenge were evaluated. 3. The results showed that C-terminal derivative of EmIMP1 vaccination could increase weight gain, reduce enteric lesions, and decrease faecal oocysts shedding. Moreover, the C-terminal derivative of EmIMP1 caused reasonable improvement in serum antibodies and the numbers of IFN-γ producing peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC), as compared to the control group. 4. This study demonstrated that the C-terminal derivative of EmIMP1 could be used as a potent immunogenic candidate in the development of subunit vaccines against E. maxima infection.

Abstract
We report terahertz (THz) light-induced second harmonic generation, in superconductors with inversion symmetry that forbid even-order nonlinearities. The THz second harmonic emission vanishes above the superconductor critical temperature and arises from precession of twisted Anderson pseudospins at a multicycle, THz driving frequency that is not allowed by equilibrium symmetry. We explain the microscopic physics by a dynamical symmetry breaking principle at sub-THz-cycle by using quantum kinetic modeling of the interplay between strong THz-lightwave nonlinearity and pulse propagation. The resulting nonzero integrated pulse area inside the superconductor leads to light-induced nonlinear supercurrents due to subcycle Cooper pair acceleration, in contrast to dc-biased superconductors, which can be controlled by the band structure and THz driving field below the superconducting gap.

Abstract
We discover hidden Rashba fine structure in CH_{3}NH_{3}PbI_{3} and demonstrate its quantum control by vibrational coherence through symmetry-selective vibronic (electron-phonon) coupling. Above a critical threshold of a single-cycle terahertz pump field, a Raman phonon mode distinctly modulates the middle excitonic states with persistent coherence for more than ten times longer than the ones on two sides that predominately couple to infrared phonons. These vibronic quantum beats, together with first-principles modeling of phonon periodically modulated Rashba parameters, identify a threefold excitonic fine structure splitting, i.e., optically forbidden, degenerate dark states in between two bright ones with a narrow, ∼3 nm splitting. Harnessing of vibronic quantum coherence and symmetry inspires light-perovskite quantum control and sub-THz-cycle "Rashba engineering" of spin-split bands for ultimate multifunction device.

Abstract
Objective: To compare the histologic features of immune-mediated hepatitis (IMH) due to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) monotherapy and combined ICIs anti-angiogenesis tyrosine kinases (TKIs) targeted therapy. Methods: Twenty-one IMH patients who had liver biopsy during ICIs treatment in Zhongshan Hospital of Fudan University from 2015 to 2019 were included. Among them, ten were treated with ICIs monotherapy, and 11 were treated with combined ICIs and anti-angiogenesis targeted therapy. The histologic features of IMH were assessed by HE staining and PD-L1/2 was evaluated by immunohistochemical staining. Results: Patients treated with monotherapy ICIs presented with different levels of lobular hepatitis and portal inflammation. Besides, there were also cholangitis, endothelialitis, Kupffer cells activation and peliosisi hepatitis. Eight cases (8/10) showed mild and two cases (2/10) showed moderate hepatic injury. As for patients receiving combined ICIs and TKIs therapy, the extent of IMH was more severe, with four cases (4/11) showing moderate-severe liver injury, with confluent or bridging necrosis, portal inflammation, cholangitis, interface hepatitis. Among these, one patient developed acute severe hepatitis with massive hepatocyte necrosis and died of multisystem dysfunction. In those cases with severe liver injury, many CD8 positive lymphocytes aggregated in the portal area and hepatic sinusoid, and PD-L1 was expressed in many endothelial cells. There were both 2 cases of death in ICIs monotherapy and combination therapy group. Among the latter group, 1 patient developed acute severe hepatitis with massive hepatocyte necrosis and died of multisystem dysfunction. Conclusion: Compared with ICIs monotherapy, combined ICIs and anti-angiogenesis targeted TKIs therapy may cause overlapping hepatic injury, leading to severe IMH.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The present study is aimed at investigating the prognostic value and association of systemic inflammation (neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio and lymphocyte-to-monocytes ratio) for patients with stage IV gastric cancer. METHODS In this retrospective study, patients with stage IV gastric cancer between January 2008 and December 2017 were included. A summary was performed on clinicopathological characteristics and a multivariate cox regression analysis was performed to identify the prognostic factors. RESULTS 304 patients with stage IV gastric cancer were included in the study. On multivariate analysis, the systemic chemotherapy (p < .001), the jaundice (p = .004), the high neutrophil-to-lym- phocyte ratio (p = .005) and the high platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (p = .041) were independent prognostic factors for patients with stage IV gastric cancer. CONCLUSION As systemic inflammation response markers, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio are significantly associated with OS for stage IV gastric cancer patients. Systemic chemotherapy shows a clear overall survival benefit in patients with stage IV gastric cancer and Jaundice indicates poor overall survival.

Abstract
Telencephalic radial glial progenitors (RGPs) are retained in the ventricular zone (VZ), the niche for neural stem cells during cortical development. However, the underlying mechanism is not well understood. To study whether protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) may regulate the above process, we generate Ppp2cα conditional knockout (cKO) mice, in which PP2A catalytic subunit α (PP2Acα) is inactivated in neural progenitor cells in the dorsal telencephalon. We show that RGPs are ectopically distributed in cortical areas outside of the VZ in Ppp2cα cKO embryos. Whereas deletion of PP2Acα does not affect the proliferation of RGPs, it significantly impairs the generation of late-born neurons. We find complete loss of apical adherens junctions (AJs) in the ventricular membrane in Ppp2cα cKO cortices. We observe abundant colocalization for N-cadherin and PP2Acα in control AJs. Moreover, in vitro analysis reveals direct interactions of N-cadherin to PP2Acα and to β-catenin. Overall, this study not only uncovers a novel function of PP2Acα in retaining RGPs into the VZ but also demonstrates the impact of PP2A-dependent retention of RGPs on the generation for late-born neurons.

Abstract
AIMS The aim of the study was to investigate the antifungal effects of a quorum sensing-molecule, 2-phenylethanol, against the food spoilage moulds Penicillium expansum and Penicillium nordicum. METHODS AND RESULTS Conidial germination of the tested Penicillium spp. (three strains in total) were inhibited by treatments with 2-phenylethanol in a concentration-dependent manner. Germinated conidia was significantly reduced from 4·4-16·7% at 7·5 mmol l-1 and completely inhibited at 15 mmol l-1 2-phenylethanol. Integrity of conidial cell membranes was unaffected by 2-phenylethanol resulting in reversible inhibition pattern of germination. In contrast, membrane permeability of actively growing hyphae was severely compromised, showing 63·5 - 75·7% membrane damage upon treatment with 15 mmol l-1 2-phenylethanol. The overall inhibitory effect of 2-phenylethanol on colony development and growth of P. expansum and P. nordicum was additionally confirmed. CONCLUSIONS 2-phenylethanol inhibits conidial germination and growth of P. expansum and P. nordicum in a nonlethal, reversible and concentration-dependent manner. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY The study indicates that 2-phenylethanol can find potential application as an antifungal agent for biological control of moulds in the food industry.

Abstract
The study of the strength and behavior of the antikaon-nucleon (K[over ¯]N) interaction constitutes one of the key focuses of the strangeness sector in low-energy quantum chromodynamics (QCD). In this Letter a unique high-precision measurement of the strong interaction between kaons and protons, close and above the kinematic threshold, is presented. The femtoscopic measurements of the correlation function at low pair-frame relative momentum of (K^{+}p⊕K^{-}p[over ¯]) and (K^{-}p⊕K^{+}p[over ¯]) pairs measured in pp collisions at sqrt[s]=5, 7, and 13 TeV are reported. A structure observed around a relative momentum of 58 MeV/c in the measured correlation function of (K^{-}p⊕K^{+}p[over ¯]) with a significance of 4.4σ constitutes the first experimental evidence for the opening of the (K[over ¯]^{0}n⊕K^{0}n[over ¯]) isospin breaking channel due to the mass difference between charged and neutral kaons. The measured correlation functions have been compared to Jülich and Kyoto models in addition to the Coulomb potential. The high-precision data at low relative momenta presented in this work prove femtoscopy to be a powerful complementary tool to scattering experiments and provide new constraints above the K[over ¯]N threshold for low-energy QCD chiral models.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore whether Mitofusin 2 (Mfn2) is implicated in the pathogenesis of intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD). METHODS We detected the protein content of Mfn2 in degenerated human nucleus pulposus (NP) tissues and investigated the effects of Mfn2 knockdown and Mfn2 overexpression on rat nucleus pulposus cells (NPCs) under oxidative stress by using a range of biological techniques. Afterwards, we confirmed the effects of Mfn2 overexpression on NPCs in vivo and further evaluated the therapeutic action of adenovirus (AV)-Mfn2 injection in a rodent IVDD model. RESULTS Mfn2 expression was decreased in human NP tissues during IVDD. Mfn2 knockdown aggravated the impairment of autophagic flux, mitochondrial dysfunction and cellular apoptosis in rat NPCs after Tert-Butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) treatment, while Mfn2 overexpression significantly reversed these alterations. Besides, Mfn2 overexpression promoted an ROS (reactive oxygen species)-dependent mitophagy via PINK1 (PTEN-induced putative kinase 1)/Parkin pathway in TBHP-treated NPCs. Inhibition of autophagy with chloroquine (CQ) disordered the protective effects of Mfn2 overexpression on NPCs. Furthermore, Mfn2 overexpression in discs by AV-Mfn2 injection ameliorated the development of IVDD in rats. CONCLUSION Mfn2 repression is deeply involved in the pathogenesis of IVDD with its impairment on autophagy, leading to the aggravation of mitochondrial dysfunction and apoptotic cell death, which ought to be a promising therapeutic target for IVDD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Adenosquamous carcinoma (ASC) of the lung is a heterogeneous disease that is composed of both adenocarcinoma components (ACC) and squamous cell carcinoma components (SCCC). Their genomic profile, genetic origin, and clinical management remain controversial. PATIENTS AND METHODS Resected ASC and metastatic tumor in regional lymph nodes (LNs) were collected. The ACC and SCCC were separated by microdissection of primary tumor. The 1021 cancer-related genes were evaluated by next-generation sequencing independently in ACC and SCCC and LNs. Shared and private alterations in the two components were investigated. In addition, genomic profiles of independent cohorts of adenocarcinomas and squamous cell carcinomas were examined for comparison. We have also carried out a retrospective study of ASCs with known EGFR mutation status from 11 hospitals in China for their clinical outcomes. RESULTS The most frequent alterations in 28 surgically resected ASCs include EGFR (79%), TP53 (68%), MAP3K1 (14%) mutations, EGFR amplifications (32%), and MDM2 amplifications (18%). Twenty-seven patients (96%) had shared variations between ACC and SCCC, and pure SCCC metastases were not found in metastatic LNs among these patients. Only one patient with geographically separated ACC and SCCC had no shared mutations. Inter-component heterogeneity was a common genetic event of ACC and SCCC. The genomic profile of ASC was similar to that of 170 adenocarcinomas, but different from that of 62 squamous cell carcinomas. The incidence of EGFR mutations in the retrospective analysis of 517 ASCs was 51.8%. Among the 129 EGFR-positive patients who received EGFR-TKIs, the objective response rate was 56.6% and the median progression-free survival was 10.1 months (95% confidence interval: 9.0-11.2). CONCLUSIONS The ACC and SCCC share a monoclonal origin, a majority with genetically inter-component heterogeneity. ASC may represent a subtype of adenocarcinoma with EGFR mutation being the most common genomic anomaly and sharing similar efficacy to EGFR TKI.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Medication-related adverse events, or adverse drug reactions (ADRs) are harmful events caused by medication. ADRs could have profound effects on the patients' quality of life, as well as creating an increased burden on the healthcare system. ADRs are one of the rising causes of morbidity and mortality internationally, and will continue to be a significant public health issue with the increased complexity in medication, to treat various diseases in an aging society. This scoping review aims to provide a detailed map of the most common adverse drug reactions experienced in primary healthcare setting, the drug classes that are most commonly associated with different levels/types of adverse drug reactions, causes of ADRs, their prevalence and consequences of experiencing ADRs. METHODS We systematically reviewed electronic databases Ovid MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL Plus, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, PsycINFO and Scopus. In addition, the National Patient Safety Foundation Bibliography and the Agency for Health Care Research and Quality and Patient Safety Net Bibliography were searched. Studies published from 1990 onwards until December 7, 2018 were included as the incidence of reporting drug reactions were not prevalent before 1990. We only include studies published in English. RESULTS The final search yielded a total of 19 citations for inclusion published over a 15-year period that primarily focused on investigating the different types of adverse drug reactions in primary healthcare. The most causes of adverse events were related to drug related and allergies. Idiosyncratic adverse reactions were not very commonly reported. The most common adverse drug reactions reported in the studies included in this review were those that are associated with the central nervous system, gastrointestinal system and cardiovascular system. Several classes of medications were reported to be associated with adverse events. CONCLUSION This scoping review identified that the most causes of ADRs were drug related and due to allergies. Idiosyncratic adverse reactions were not very commonly reported in the literature. This is mainly because it is hard to predict and these reactions are not associated with drug doses or routes of administration. The most common ADRs reported in the studies included in this review were those that are associated with the central nervous system, gastrointestinal system and cardiovascular system. Several classes of medications were reported to be associated with ADRs.

LncRNA HULC promotes non-small cell lung cancer cell proliferation and inhibits the apoptosis by up-regulating sphingosine kinase 1 (SPHK1) and its downstream PI3K/Akt pathway. EUROPEAN REVIEW FOR MEDICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL SCIENCES 2019; 22:8722-8730. [PMID: 30575912 DOI: 10.26355/eurrev_201812_16637] [Citation(s) in RCA: 15] [Impact Index Per Article: 3.0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 11/12/2022]
Abstract
OBJECTIVE LncRNA HULC has been proved to have important functions in the pathogenesis of several types of cancers. While its involvement in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), which is one of the most common malignancies, still hasn't been reported to date. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the role of HULC in NSCLC and to explore the possible mechanisms. PATIENTS AND METHODS Tumor tissues and adjacent healthy tissues were collected from NSCLC patients, and blood samples were collected from both NSCLC patients and healthy controls. Expression of HULU in those tissues was detected by qRT-PCR. All patients were followed up for 5 years. Diagnostic and prognostic values of serum HULU for NSCLC were investigated by ROC curve analysis and survival curve analysis, respectively. HULC overexpression NSCLC cell lines were established and its effects on cell proliferation as well as apoptosis were investigated by CCK-8 assay and MTT assay, respectively. Effects of HULC overexpression on sphingosine kinase 1 (SPHK1) and its downstream PI3K/Akt pathway were investigated by Western blot. RESULTS HULC expression level was increased in tumor tissues compared with adjacent healthy tissues in most patients. Serum level of HULC was higher in cancer patients than that in healthy control. Serum level of HULC was increased with the increased stage of primary tumor (T stage). Serum HULC can be used to accurately predict NSCLC and its prognosis. HULC overexpression promoted tumor cell proliferation, but inhibited cell apoptosis. HULC overexpression also increased expression level of SPHK1 and phosphorylation level of Akt in NSCLC cell, but showed on significant effects on Akt expression. Treatment with SPHK1 inhibitor and Akt reduced the effects of HULC overexpression on proliferation and apoptosis of NSCLC cells. But the treatment showed no significant effects on HULC expression. SPHK1 inhibitor treatment inhibited phosphorylation of Akt, while Akt inhibitor treatment showed no significant effects on SPHK1 expression. CONCLUSIONS LncRNA HULC overexpression can promote NSCLC cell proliferation and inhibit cell apoptosis by up-regulating sphingosine kinase 1 (SPHK1) and further induce the activation of its downstream PI3K/Akt pathway.

Abstract
The pharmacokinetics of a diclofenac sodium was investigated in swine. A single intravenous (i.v.) or intramuscular (i.m.) injection of 5% diclofenac sodium (concentration = 2.5 mg · kg-1) was administered to 8 healthy pigs according to a two-period crossover design. The pharmacokinetic parameters were calculated by non-compartmental analysis with DAS2.1.1 software. After a single i.v. administration, the main pharmacokinetic parameters of diclofenac sodium injection in swine were as follows: the elimination half-time (T1/2β) was 1.32±0.34 h; the area under the curve (AUC) was (55.50±5.50 μg · mL-1 h; the mean residence time (MRT) was 1.60±0.28 h; the apparent volume of distribution (Vd) was 0.50±0.05 L · kg-1; and the body clearance (CLB) was 0.26±0.04 L · (h · kg)-1. After the single i.m. administration, the pharmacokinetic parameters were as follows: peak time (Tmax) was 1.19±0.26 h; and peak concentration (Cmax) was 11.61±5.99 μg mL-1. The diclofenac sodium has the following pharmacokinetic characteristics in swine: rapid absorption and elimination; high peak concentration; and bioavailability.

Abstract
In the wake of constant improvements in sequencing technologies, numerous insect genomes have been sequenced. Currently, 1219 insect genome-sequencing projects have been registered with the National Center for Biotechnology Information, including 401 that have genome assemblies and 155 with an official gene set of annotated protein-coding genes. Comparative genomics analysis showed that the expansion or contraction of gene families was associated with well-studied physiological traits such as immune system, metabolic detoxification, parasitism and polyphagy in insects. Here, we summarize the progress of insect genome sequencing, with an emphasis on how this impacts research on pest control. We begin with a brief introduction to the basic concepts of genome assembly, annotation and metrics for evaluating the quality of draft assemblies. We then provide an overview of genome information for numerous insect species, highlighting examples from prominent model organisms, agricultural pests and disease vectors. We also introduce the major insect genome databases. The increasing availability of insect genomic resources is beneficial for developing alternative pest control methods. However, many opportunities remain for developing data-mining tools that make maximal use of the available insect genome resources. Although rapid progress has been achieved, many challenges remain in the field of insect genomics.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the role of multidisciplinary team (MDT) clinic in the diagnosis of pancreatic diseases and patient compliance with MDT advice in the current medical system. Methods: The study included 512 patients that had visited the pancreas-oriented MDT clinic of Zhongshan Hospital between May 2015 and May 2019.The clinical and pathological data were collected and analyzed retrospectively. Diseases were classified in accordance with 2010 WHO classification of tumors of the digestive system and usual clinical practices. Compliance was determined according to whether a patient received corresponding therapies or undergoing further checks or follow-ups. Results: Among the 512 patients that had visited the MDT clinic, 121 patients were referred due to undetermined diagnosis. Classified according to the final diagnosis, the rate of undetermined diagnosis in different disease categories from high to low in order was inflammatory diseases of the pancreas (75.0%, 24/32), other lesions of the pancreas (56.1%,23/41), pancreatic cystic lesions (19.1%,17/89), pancreatic carcinomas (18.3%,48/262) and pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (pNEN)(10.2%,9/88). The MDT clinic made diagnosis to 68 patients directly with an accuracy of 89.7%. The rate of compliance in the entire cohort was 63.4%. The rate of compliance of patients from June 2017 to May 2019 (68.4%) was higher than that of patients from May 2015 to May 2017(59.6%). The compliance rate of patients in different disease categories from high to low in order was inflammatory diseases of the pancreas(84.4%, 27/32), pancreatic carcinomas (67.9%, 178/262), pNEN(60.2%,53/88), other lesions of the pancreas (56.1%,23/41), and pancreatic cystic lesions(49.4%, 44/89). The compliance rate of patients with different MDT advice from high to low in order was best supportive care(78.6%,22/28), antitumor approaches beyond surgery(71.6%,159/222), further tests(62.6%, 77/123), surgery(53.7%, 65/121) and follow-up(49.2%, 31/63). In patients suggested for surgery, the compliance rate of patients with carcinomas(67.4%, 33/49) was higher than patients with other kinds of neoplasms. Conclusions: MDT clinic could facilitate the diagnosis of pancreatic diseases conveniently and inexpensively. The overall compliance rate of MDT clinic patients is rather low, and patients with carcinomas have a relative high rate of compliance with the suggestion of surgery.

Huang C, Zhu HJ, Li H, Li QX, Li FM, Cheng L, Liu YG. p38-MAPK pathway is activated in retinopathy of microvascular disease of STZ-induced diabetic rat model. EUROPEAN REVIEW FOR MEDICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL SCIENCES 2019; 22:5789-5796. [PMID: 30280757 DOI: 10.26355/eurrev_201809_15904] [Citation(s) in RCA: 12] [Impact Index Per Article: 2.4] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 11/12/2022]
Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the role of corticotropin releasing hormone (CRH) in diabetic retinopathy of microvascular disease and the potential mechanism. MATERIALS AND METHODS The diabetic rat model was constructed by a single intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (STZ). The expression of CRH in the retina of diabetic rats and wild-type rats was detected by Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR). CRH shRNA or Scr shRNA adenovirus was injected into the eyes of diabetic rats and wild-type rats, respectively. The effect of down-regulated CRH on visual electrophysiology in rats was evaluated. Protein expressions of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and inflammatory factors that were related to the microvascular lesion after CRH downregulation were detected by Western blot. Furthermore, p38 expression was detected by Western blot to explore whether mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway was involved in the function of retinal endothelial cells regulated by CRH. RESULTS The expression of CRH was significantly up-regulated in the retina of diabetic rats. RT-PCR results showed that the mRNA level of CRH in the retina of diabetic rats injected with CRH shRNA was decreased. However, no significant change in CRH level was observed in rats injected with Scr shRNA adenovirus. The down-regulated CRH could improve the diabetes-induced visual impairment and retinal inflammatory response. Moreover, the down-regulated CRH led to a decreased phosphorylation level of p38. CONCLUSIONS CRH improves the diabetic retinopathy of microvascular disease via the p38-MAPK pathway, which is expected to be a new target for the treatment of diabetic microangiopathy.

Abstract
The first measurement of the ϒ(1S) elliptic flow coefficient (v_{2}) is performed at forward rapidity (2.5<y<4) in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The results are obtained with the scalar product method and are reported as a function of transverse momentum (p_{T}) up to 15 GeV/c in the 5%-60% centrality interval. The measured ϒ(1S)v_{2} is consistent with 0 and with the small positive values predicted by transport models within uncertainties. The v_{2} coefficient in 2<p_{T}<15 GeV/c is lower than that of inclusive J/ψ mesons in the same p_{T} interval by 2.6 standard deviations. These results, combined with earlier suppression measurements, are in agreement with a scenario in which the ϒ(1S) production in Pb-Pb collisions at LHC energies is dominated by dissociation limited to the early stage of the collision, whereas in the J/ψ case there is substantial experimental evidence of an additional regeneration component.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the clinical characteristics of newly treated high-risk group neuroblastoma (NB) patients with bone marrow metastasis and to explore the prognostic factors. Methods: The clinical features (sex, age, stage, risk group, pathological type, metastatic site, etc.) of 203 newly treated high-risk NB patients with bone marrow metastasis admitted to Hematology Oncology Center, Beijing Children's Hospital from January 2007 to December 2016 were analyzed retrospectively. There were 118 males (58.1%) and 85 females (41.9%). Kaplan-Meier method was used for survival analysis and Cox regression was used to analyze the prognostic factors. Results: The age at onset of the 203 patients was 41 months (9-147 months). The metastatic sites at diagnosis were as follows: bone in 195 cases (96.1%), distant lymph nodes in 104 cases (51.2%), skull and endomeninx in 61 cases (30.0%), orbit in 30 cases (14.8%), pleura in 16 cases (7.9%), liver in 13 cases(6.4%), canalis spinalis in 13 cases (6.4%), other sites in 11 cases (5.4%) and skin and soft tissue in 10 cases (4.9%). In all, 194 cases were enrolled for prognostic analysis. The follow-up time was 36 months (1 day-138 months) , and the 5-years event free survival (EFS) and overall survival (OS) were 36.1% and 39.7%, respectively. A total of 118 patients (60.8%) had events (first relapse or death) with the time to event occurrence was 15 months (1 day-72 months), whereas 112 patients (57.7%) died with the event occurrence to death time was 3 months (1 day-21 months). There was no significant difference in 5-years OS between radiotherapy group and non-radiotherapy group (42.3% vs. 38.3%, χ(2)=3.671, P=0.055). The 5-years OS in transplantation group was significantly better than the non-transplantation group (44.3% vs. 35.5%, χ(2)=8.878, P=0.003), and the radiotherapy combined transplantation group also had a better 5-years OS rate than the non-radiotherapy combined transplantation group (45.8% vs. 37.3%, χ(2)=5.945, P=0.015). Univariate survival analysis showed lactate dehydrogenase ≥ 1 500 U/L, the amplification of MYCN, the metastatic sites of orbit, canalis spinalis and pleura were associated with poor prognosis of newly diagnosed high-risk NB patients (χ(2)=21.064, 13.601, 3.998, 6.183, 15.307, all P<0.05). The amplification of MYCN and the metastatic sites of pleura were risk factors for prognosis of newly diagnosed high-risk NB patients by Cox regression models (HR=1.896,1.100, 95%CI: 1.113-3.231, 1.020-1.187, both P<0.05). Conclusions: The prognosis is unfavorable in high-risk group NB patients with BM metastasis. Radiotherapy combined with transplantation can further improve the prognosis of these patients. The amplification of MYCN and the metastatic sites of pleura were the poor prognostic factors for high-risk NB patients with bone marrow metastasis.

Abstract
Measurements of anisotropic flow coefficients (v_{n}) and their cross-correlations using two- and multiparticle cumulant methods are reported in collisions of pp at sqrt[s]=13 TeV, p-Pb at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV, Xe-Xe at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.44 TeV, and Pb-Pb at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV recorded with the ALICE detector. The multiplicity dependence of v_{n} is studied in a very wide range from 20 to 3000 particles produced in the midrapidity region |η|<0.8 for the transverse momentum range 0.2<p_{T}<3.0 GeV/c. An ordering of the coefficients v_{2}>v_{3}>v_{4} is found in pp and p-Pb collisions, similar to that seen in large collision systems, while a weak v_{2} multiplicity dependence is observed relative to nucleus-nucleus collisions in the same multiplicity range. Using a novel subevent method, v_{2} measured with four-particle cumulants is found to be compatible with that from six-particle cumulants in pp and p-Pb collisions. The magnitude of the correlation between v_{n}^{2} and v_{m}^{2}, evaluated with the symmetric cumulants SC(m,n) is observed to be positive at all multiplicities for v_{2} and v_{4}, while for v_{2} and v_{3} it is negative and changes sign for multiplicities below 100, which may indicate a different v_{n} fluctuation pattern in this multiplicity range. The observed long-range multiparticle azimuthal correlations in high multiplicity pp and p-Pb collisions can neither be described by pythia 8 nor by impact-parameter-Glasma, music, and ultrarelativistic quantum molecular dynamics model calculations, and hence, provide new insights into the understanding of collective effects in small collision systems.

Abstract
This Letter presents the first experimental observation of the attractive strong interaction between a proton and a multistrange baryon (hyperon) Ξ^{-}. The result is extracted from two-particle correlations of combined p-Ξ^{-}⊕p[over ¯]-Ξ[over ¯]^{+} pairs measured in p-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV at the LHC with ALICE. The measured correlation function is compared with the prediction obtained assuming only an attractive Coulomb interaction and a standard deviation in the range [3.6, 5.3] is found. Since the measured p-Ξ^{-}⊕p[over ¯]-Ξ[over ¯]^{+} correlation is significantly enhanced with respect to the Coulomb prediction, the presence of an additional, strong, attractive interaction is evident. The data are compatible with recent lattice calculations by the HAL-QCD Collaboration, with a standard deviation in the range [1.8, 3.7]. The lattice potential predicts a shallow repulsive Ξ^{-} interaction within pure neutron matter and this implies stiffer equations of state for neutron-rich matter including hyperons. Implications of the strong interaction for the modeling of neutron stars are discussed.

Abstract
This study's objectives were to test correlations among groups of biomarkers that are associated with condylar morphology and to apply artificial intelligence to test shape analysis features in a neural network (NN) to stage condylar morphology in temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis (TMJOA). Seventeen TMJOA patients (39.9 ± 11.7 y) experiencing signs and symptoms of the disease for less than 10 y and 17 age- and sex-matched control subjects (39.4 ± 15.2 y) completed a questionnaire, had a temporomandibular joint clinical exam, had blood and saliva samples drawn, and had high-resolution cone beam computed tomography scans taken. Serum and salivary levels of 17 inflammatory biomarkers were quantified using protein microarrays. A NN was trained with 259 other condyles to detect and classify the stage of TMJOA and then compared to repeated clinical experts' classifications. Levels of the salivary biomarkers MMP-3, VE-cadherin, 6Ckine, and PAI-1 were correlated to each other in TMJOA patients and were significantly correlated with condylar morphological variability on the posterior surface of the condyle. In serum, VE-cadherin and VEGF were correlated with one another and with significant morphological variability on the anterior surface of the condyle, while MMP-3 and CXCL16 presented statistically significant associations with variability on the anterior surface, lateral pole, and superior-posterior surface of the condyle. The range of mouth opening variables were the clinical markers with the most significant associations with morphological variability at the medial and lateral condylar poles. The repeated clinician consensus classification had 97.8% agreement on degree of degeneration within 1 group difference. Predictive analytics of the NN's staging of TMJOA compared to the repeated clinicians' consensus revealed 73.5% and 91.2% accuracy. This study demonstrated significant correlations among variations in protein expression levels, clinical symptoms, and condylar surface morphology. The results suggest that 3-dimensional variability in TMJOA condylar morphology can be comprehensively phenotyped by the NN.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate alteration of proteins profile in malignant transformation bronchial epithelial cells(16HBE-T) induced by hexavalent chromium[(Cr(VI))] and analyze the expression level of SET protein, then to provide some new insights for the carcinogenesis mechanism of Cr(VI). Methods: Total protein was extracted from 16HBE cells and was alkylated and desalinated before digested into peptides. The products were labeled with Tandem Mass Tag (TMT) and identified using LC-ESI-MS/MS. Results: A total of 3 517 proteins were found, expression differences greater than 1.5 or less 0.67 times were to found have 185 and 201 proteins, respectively. Gene enrichment analysis revealed that differential proteins were mainly involved in autophagy, DNA damage repair, RNA processing and other biological processes. Western blot results showed the expression level of SET was significantly increased while downregulated in histone H3K18/27 acetylation and p53 protein. Conclusion: Proteins involved in multiple biological processes altered in 16HBE-T cells and regulation mode of SET inhibiting histone H3K18/27 acetylation regulating transcriptional activity of p53 may paly an important role in Cr(VI)-association carcinogenesis.

Patient preferences of chemotherapy treatment options and tolerance of chemotherapy side effects in advanced stage lung cancer. BMC Cancer 2019; 19:835. Abstract
Background In the U.S., lung cancer accounts for 14% of cancer diagnoses and 28% of cancer deaths annually. Since no cure exists for advanced lung cancer, the main treatment goal is to prolong survival. Chemotherapy regimens produce side effects with different profiles. Coupling this with individual patient’s preferred side effects could result in patient-centered choices leading to better treatment outcomes. There are apparently no previous studies of or tools for assessing and utilizing patient chemotherapy preferences in clinical settings. The long-term goal of the study was to facilitate patients’ treatment choices for advanced-stage lung cancer. A primary aim was to determine how preferences for chemotherapy side effects relate to chemotherapy choices. Methods An observational, longitudinal, open cohort study of patients with advanced-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) was conducted. Data sources included patient medical records and from one to three interviews per subject. Data were analyzed using Chi-square, Fisher’s Exact and McNamara’s test, and logistic regression. Results Patients identified the top three chemotherapy side effects that they would most like to avoid: shortness of breath, bleeding, and fatigue. These side effects were similar between first and last interviews, although the rank order changed after patients experienced chemotherapy. Conclusions Patients ranked drug side effects that they would most like to avoid. Patient-centered clinical care and patient-centered outcomes research are feasible and may be enhanced by stakeholder commitment. The study results are limited to patients with advanced NSCLC. Most of the subjects were White, since patients were drawn from the U.S. Midwest, a predominantly White population.

Abstract
We describe a tunable bandpass filter and polarizer based on resonant tunneling through an air gap between two hemi-cylindrical prisms coated with 4-layer a-Si/SiO2 matching stacks. Tuning is achieved by simultaneous variations in the incident angle and the air gap thickness, enabling the pass-band center wavelength to be continuously adjusted over a very wide range (potentially ~1000 - 1800 nm) with an approximately fixed fractional bandwidth (Δλ/λ ~1%). An analytical derivation of the conditions required to produce a flat-top TE pass-band at a desired wavelength is given. The filter provides excellent out-of-band rejection and strong suppression of the orthogonal TM polarization over the entire tuning range. For applications involving collimated light, it could be a useful alternative to existing widely tunable filters based on gratings or liquid crystals.
