Abstract
Nuclear factor Y (NF-Y) is an evolutionarily conserved trimeric transcription factor complex present in nearly all eukaryotes. The heterotrimeric NF-Y complex consists of three subunits, NF-YA, NF-YB, and NF-YC, and binds to the CCAAT box in the promoter regions of its target genes to regulate their expression. Yeast and mammal genomes generally have single genes with multiple splicing isoforms that encode each NF-Y subunit. By contrast, plant genomes generally have multi-gene families encoding each subunit and these genes are differentially expressed in various tissues or stages. Therefore, different subunit combinations can lead to a wide variety of NF-Y complexes in various tissues, stages, and growth conditions, indicating the potentially diverse functions of this complex in plants. Indeed, many recent studies have proved that the NF-Y complex plays multiple essential roles in plant growth, development, and stress responses. In this review, we highlight recent progress on NF-Y in Arabidopsis thaliana, including NF-Y protein structure, heterotrimeric complex formation, and the molecular mechanism by which NF-Y regulates downstream target gene expression. We then focus on its biological functions and underlying molecular mechanisms. Finally, possible directions for future research on NF-Y are also presented.

Abstract
In this study, the optimization of working cathode position in sleeve-type bioelectrochemical system (BES) was evaluated with inner/outer chamber for azo dye decolorization. Results showed that the working position in outer chamber performed better with decolorization efficiencies of 97.8 ± 2.1% (7h) and 94.0 ± 2.3% (16 h) than that in inner chamber as the volume ratio Vcathode:Vanode=1:1 and 3:1, respectively. The current and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) analysis indicated that the proton/electron transfer and anolyte diffusion could be improved using outer chamber as working position. The decolorization with increased volume ratio could be further improved through the strategy of increasing substrate concentration, which would provide enough electrons and decrease diffusion resistance, further improving the whole performance with increased outer cathode volume. It has the great potential in sleeve-type configuration application and would create more challenges for process optimization and maintenance.

Abstract
Anaerobic sludge (AS) and microalgae were co-cultured to enhance the energy conversion and nutrients removal from starch wastewater. Mixed ratio, starch concentration and initial pH played critical roles on the hydrogen and lipid production of the co-culture system. The maximum hydrogen production of 1508.3 mL L(-1) and total lipid concentration of 0.36 g L(-1) were obtained under the optimized mixed ratio (algae:AS) of 30:1, starch concentration of 6 g L(-1) and initial pH of 8. The main soluble metabolites in dark fermentation were acetate and butyrate, most of which can be consumed in co-cultivation. When sweet potato starch wastewater was used as the substrate, the highest COD, TN and TP removal and energy conversion efficiencies reached 80.5%, 88.7%, 80.1% and 34.2%, which were 176%, 178%, 200% and 119% higher than that of the control group (dark fermentation), respectively. This research provided a novel approach and achieved efficient simultaneous energy recovery and nutrients removal from starch wastewater by the co-culture system.

Abstract
In this work, three matching modes (relative positions, catholyte flow sequences, and flow regimes) of bioelectrochemical module and anaerobic sludge were evaluated and optimized for azo dye treatment in the integrated system with embedding modular bioelectrochemical system into anaerobic sludge reactor. Results showed that it was favorable to operate this integrated system under the condition of 1/4 cathode soaking into sludge with spiral distributor in down-flow direction. Current, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and pH clearly demonstrated the important role of 1/4 soaking in electron/proton transfer. The down-flow direction flowed through electrode zone and then sludge zone could benefit to the efficient use of cathode and improve AO7 treatment. Furthermore, the positive effect of spiral catholyte distributor might be due to its promoting role in mixing and creating a spiral flow channel around the cathode electrode-microbes-solution interface. These results exhibited great potential for matching modular bioelectrochemical system with anaerobic treatment process.

Abstract
The outer membrane protein RagB is one of the major virulence factors of Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis). To prevent periodontitis and associated systemic diseases induced by P. gingivalis, we built B cell antigen epitope vaccine characterized by pIRES-ragB'-mGITRL to induce a protective immune responses. The B cell antigen epitope and scrambled peptide of ragB were predicted, cloned into pIRES and constructed pIRES-ragB', pIRES-scrambled epitopes and pIRES-ragB'-mGITRL. pIRES-ragB'-mGITRL was transfected into COS-7 cells. Subsequently, the 6-week-old female BALB/c mice were challenged by P. gingivalis following three time immunization by pIRES, pIRES-ragB', pIRES-scrambled epitopes and pIRES-ragB'-mGITRL. The levels of RagB-specific antibody in the serum and Tfh cells in the spleen were measured by ELISA and flow cytometry, respectively. And higher levels of RagB-specific IgG were produced in the immunized mice with pIRES-ragB'-mGITRL. Additionally, the number of Tfh cells was also expanded and lesions were diminished in pIRES-ragB'-mGITRL mice comparing with control groups. Our results clearly demonstrated that P. gingivalis B cell antigen epitope vaccine, pIRES-ragB'-mGITRL, could induce protective immune responses. Furthermore, our data also indicated that pIRES-ragB'-mGITRL was a potential therapeutic vaccine against P. gingivalis.

Abstract
BACKGROUNDS Recurrence is the most important factor associated with death of gastric cancer patients after surgery. The aim of this study was to explore the prognosis factors and the effective therapy for recurrent gastric cancer (RGC) patients after radical resection. METHODS The clinical data of 144 RGC patients who underwent radical resection from January 1999 to March 2004 were reviewed. The 15 clinicopathological factors and treatment modalities on the survival were analyzed. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to investigate the prognostic significance of these factors for RGC. RESULTS The early recurrence (<2 years) was found in 90 patients, while late recurrence (≥2 years) occurred in 54 patients. The 2-year cumulative survival rates were 23.8 % for recurrent patients receiving chemotherapy plus surgery vs. 1.2 % in patients having chemotherapy only (p < 0.001), while the median survival time was 11.0 months vs. 6.0 months (p < 0.001). Multivariate analysis indicated TNM stage after the first operation (p = 0.048), iASPP overexpression (p = 0.013), time to recurrence (p < 0.001) and treatment of recurrence (p < 0.001) as independent prognostic factors. CONCLUSIONS Surgery combined with chemotherapy for recurrent gastric cancer patients achieves ideal long-term prognosis, which should perform actively.

Abstract
Photosynthesis is one of the biological processes most sensitive to heat stress in plants. Carbon assimilation, which depends on ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (Rubisco), is one of the major sites sensitive to heat stress in photosynthesis. In this study, the roles of a tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) chloroplast-targeted DnaJ protein (SlCDJ2) in resisting heat using sense and antisense transgenic tomatoes were examined. SlCDJ2 was found to be uniformly distributed in the thylakoids and stroma of the chloroplasts. Under heat stress, sense plants exhibited higher chlorophyll contents and fresh weights, and lower accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and membrane damage. Moreover, Rubisco activity, Rubisco large subunit (RbcL) content, and CO2 assimilation capacity were all higher in sense plants and lower in antisense plants compared with wild-type plants. Thus, SlCDJ2 contributes to maintenance of CO2 assimilation capacity mainly by protecting Rubisco activity under heat stress. SlCDJ2 probably achieves this by keeping the levels of proteolytic enzymes low, which prevents accelerated degradation of Rubisco under heat stress. Furthermore, a chloroplast heat-shock protein 70 was identified as a binding partner of SlCDJ2 in yeast two-hybrid assays. Taken together, these findings establish a role for SlCDJ2 in maintaining Rubisco activity in plants under heat stress.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) are important for endothelial regeneration and angiogenesis. Thrombin protease-activated receptor 1 (PAR1) PAR1 and PAR4 stimulation induces selective release of platelet proangiogenic and antiangiogenic regulators. OBJECTIVE To investigate if PAR1-stimulated platelet releasate (PAR1-PR) and PAR4-PR regulate angiogenic properties of EPCs in different manners. METHODS AND RESULTS EPCs were generated from peripheral mononuclear cell culture. Washed platelets (2 × 10(9) mL(-1)) were stimulated by PAR1-activating peptide (PAR1-AP; 10 μmol L(-1)) or PAR4-AP (100 μmol L(-1)) to prepare PAR1-PR and PAR4-PR, respectively. PAR1-PR or PAR4-PR had little influence on EPC proliferation. EPC migration experiments using a modified Boyden chamber showed that both platelet releasates facilitated EPC migration. As for in vitro tube formation on Matrigel, PAR1-PR and PAR4-PR similarly enhanced capillary-like network formation of EPCs in the complete EPC medium containing 10% FBS and a cocktail of growth factors, while PAR1-PR more profoundly increased EPC tube formation in basal culture medium supplemented with only 0.5% FBS than did PAR4-PR. The latter was confirmed in the murine angiogenesis model of subcutaneous Matrigel implantation. Moreover, blockade of vascular endothelial growth factor, stromal cell-derived factor 1α, or matrix metalloproteinases attenuated EPC migration and tube formation, suggesting a cooperation of these factors in the enhancements. CONCLUSIONS PAR1-PR enhances vasculogenesis more potently than PAR4-PR, and the enhancements require a cooperation of multiple platelet-derived angiogenic regulators.

Abstract
A new integrated system, embedding a modular bioelectrochemical system (BES) with surrounding electrode deployment into an anaerobic sludge reactor (ASR), was developed to improve azo dye decolorization. Results demonstrated that the AO7 decolorization and COD removal can be improved without co-substrate in such system. The kinetic rate of decolorization (0.54h(-1)) in integrated system was 1.4-fold and 54.0-fold higher than that in biocathode BES (0.39h(-1)) and ASR (0.01h(-1)), respectively. COD can be removed after cleavage of azo bond, different from biocathode BES. The combined advantages of this integrated system were achieved by the cooperation of biocathode in modular BES and sludge in ASR. Biocathode was a predominant factor in AO7 decolorization, and anaerobic sludge contributed negligibly to AO7 reduction decolorization but mostly in the COD removal. These results demonstrated the great potential of integrating a BES module with anaerobic treatment process for azo dye treatment.

Abstract
Effects of Fe(3+) (0-0.12 g/L), Mg(2+) (0-0.73 g/L) and Ca(2+) (0-0.98 g/L) on the biomass and lipid accumulation of heterotrophic microalgae were investigated in dark environment. The biomass and lipid production exhibited an increasing trend with increasing the concentrations of metal ions. In cultures with 1.2 × 10(-3) g/L Fe(3+), 7.3 × 10(-3) g/L Mg(2+) and 9.8 × 10(-4) g/L Ca(2+), the maximum biomass, total lipid content and lipid productivity reached 3.49 g/L, 47.4% and 275.7 mg/L/d, respectively. More importantly, EDTA addition (1.0 × 10(-3) g/L) could enhance the solubility of metal ions (iron and calcium) and increase their availability by microalgae, which evidently promote the lipid accumulation. Compared with the control, the total lipid content and lipid productivity increased 28.2% and 29.7%, respectively. These show that appropriate concentrations of metal ions and EDTA in the culture medium were beneficial to lipid accumulation of heterotrophic Scenedesmus sp. cells.

Abstract
DnaJ proteins as co-chaperones have critical functions in biotic and abiotic stress responses, but their biological functions remain largely uninvestigated. This study investigates the function of a tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum) chloroplast-targeted DnaJ protein (LeCDJ2) using transgenic tobacco. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction analysis showed that LeCDJ2 expression was triggered by salicylic acid (SA), drought and pathogen attack. Ectopic expression of LeCDJ2 in transgenic tobacco reduced the accumulation of superoxide anion radical (O2(-)) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) under drought stress. Compared with Vec plants, the maximum photochemical efficiency of photosystem II (PSII) (Fv/Fm), net photosynthetic rate (Pn), and content of D1 protein were relatively higher in transgenic plants. The transgenic plants showes better growth, higher chlorophyll content, lower malondialdehyde (MDA) accumulation and relative electrolyte leakage (REL) under drought stress. In addition, overexpression of LeCDJ2 improved the resistance to the pathogen Pseudomonas solanacearum in transgenic tobacco. These results indicate that overexpression of a tomato chloroplast-targeted DnaJ gene enhances tolerance to drought stress and resistance to P. solanacearum in transgenic tobacco.
