Abstract
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a common chronic respiratory disease that seriously threatens people's health. It significantly affects the quality of life of patients and presents an overwhelming economic burden on the governmental perspectives, which makes COPD a major public health issue in China. In this paper, we propose some methods that can help to accelerate the implementation of the Healthy China Strategy and promote the change of people's attitudes towards COPD from disease-centered to health-centered. Those methods are composed of many important aspects including the concepts of"population medicine", the improvement of the national health policy for COPD, the consolidation of the original troika strategy of respiratory disciplines and the high-quality implementation of the three major national projects, aiming to inspire people to participate in the six-in-one work system of dealing with COPD encompassing the health promotion, the prevention, the diagnosis, the control, the treatment, and the rehabilitation.

Abstract
Graphene-supported single-atom catalysts (SACs) are promising alternatives to precious metals for catalyzing the technologically important hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), but their performances are limited by the low intrinsic activity and insufficient mass transport. Herein, a highly HER-active graphene-supported Co-N-C SAC is reported with unique design features in the morphology of the substrate and the microenvironment of the single metal sites: i) the crumpled and scrolled morphology of the graphene substrate circumvents the issues encountered by stacked nanoplatelets, resulting in improved exposure of the electrode/electrolyte interfaces (≈10 times enhancement); ii) the in-plane holes in graphene preferentially orientate the Co atoms at the edge sites with low-coordinated Co-N3 configuration that exhibits enhanced intrinsic activity (≈2.6 times enhancement compared to the conventional Co-N4 moiety), as evidenced by detailed experiments and density functional theory calculations. As a result, this catalyst exhibits significantly improved HER activity with an overpotential (η) of merely 82 mV at 10 mA cm-2 , a small Tafel slope of 59.0 mV dec-1 and a turnover frequency of 0.81 s-1 at η = 100 mV, ranking it among the best Co-N-C SACs.

Abstract
Metamaterials have attracted increasing attention in sensing applications. However, the critical feature sizes of meta-atom span several orders of magnitude in length scale, almost all the metamaterials are designed to operate at limited bands. It is challenging for a single type of meta-atom with ultra-broadband adaptability. Inspired by the natural hierarchical architectures, herein, the authors introduce a new constructing scheme of cross-wavelength hierarchical metamaterials with a single type of meta-atom that can realize enhancement of terahertz (THz) resonance and surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) at the same time. By combining multiple subwavelength structures at different hierarchical levels into a single meta-atom, the obtained metamaterial can operate in two frequencies and realize multiple functionalities. Armed with this hierarchical metamaterial, detecting analytes as small as sub-nanoscale chemical molecules or as big as microscale biomolecules simultaneously can be realized in one single metamaterial for the first time. As a proof-of-concept example, a smart sensory packaging is developed, which allowed them to real-time monitor the kinetic growth of pathogenic bacteria and their metabolites in food without opening the packaging. They believe that their work will provide a valuable example that satisfies the unmet need for multiscale functional meta-devices.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and sexual development in Chinese children. Methods: A nationwide multicenter and population-based large cross-sectional study was conducted in 13 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities of China from January 2017 to December 2018. Data on sex, age, height, weight were collected, BMI was calculated and sexual characteristics were analyzed. The subjects were divided into four groups based on age, including ages 3-<6 years, 6-<10 years, 10-<15 years and 15-<18 years. Multiple Logistic regression models were used for evaluating the associations of BMI with sexual development in children. Dichotomous Logistic regression was used to compare the differences in the distribution of early and non-early puberty among normal weight, overweight and obese groups. Curves were drawn to analyze the relationship between the percentage of early puberty and BMI distribution in girls and boys at different Tanner stages. Results: A total of 208 179 healthy children (96 471 girls and 111 708 boys) were enrolled in this study. The OR values of B2, B3 and B4+ in overweight girls were 1.72 (95%CI: 1.56-1.89), 3.19 (95%CI: 2.86-3.57), 7.14 (95%CI: 6.33-8.05) and in obese girls were 2.05 (95%CI: 1.88-2.24), 4.98 (95%CI: 4.49-5.53), 11.21 (95%CI: 9.98-12.59), respectively; while the OR values of G2, G3, G4+ in overweight boys were 1.27 (95%CI: 1.17-1.38), 1.52 (95%CI: 1.36-1.70), 1.88 (95%CI: 1.66-2.14) and in obese boys were 1.27 (95%CI: 1.17-1.37), 1.59 (95%CI: 1.43-1.78), and 1.93 (95%CI: 1.70-2.18) (compared with normal weight Tanner 1 group, all P<0.01). Analysis in different age groups found that OR values of obese girls at B2 stage and boys at G2 stage were 2.02 (95%CI: 1.06-3.86) and 2.32 (95%CI:1.05-5.12) in preschool children aged 3-<6 years, respectively (both P<0.05). And in the age group of 6-10 years, overweight girls had a 5.45-fold risk and obese girls had a 12.54-fold risk of B3 stage compared to girls with normal BMI. Compared with normal weight children, the risk of early puberty was 2.67 times higher in overweight girls, 3.63 times higher in obese girls, and 1.22 times higher in overweight boys, 1.35 times higher in obese boys (all P<0.01). Among the children at each Tanner stages, the percentage of early puberty increased with the increase of BMI, from 5.7% (80/1 397), 16.1% (48/299), 13.8% (27/195) to 25.7% (198/769), 65.1% (209/321), 65.4% (157/240) in girls aged 8-<9, 10-<11 and 11-<12 years, and 6.6% (34/513), 18.7% (51/273), 21.6% (57/264) to 13.3% (96/722), 46.4% (140/302), 47.5% (105/221) in boys aged 9-<10, 12-<13 and 13-<14 years, respectively. Conclusions: BMI is positively correlated with sexual development in both Chinese boys and girls, and the correlation is stronger in girls. Obesity is a risk factor for precocious puberty in preschool children aged 3-<6 years, and 6-<10 years of age is a high risk period for early development in obese girls.

Abstract
UNLABELLED Using anteroposterior (AP) hip radiograph, we measured several indexes to investigate the association with bone mineral density (BMD) before THA and found a highly effective index to predict femoral BMD. This technique is helpful for both patients and clinicians to identify potential candidates with low BMD to whom DXA examination is particularly recommended. INTRODUCTION The purpose of the study is to identify patients with low bone mineral density (BMD) prior to total hip arthroplasty with the help of AP hip radiographs. METHODS Indexes on AP hip radiographs and T-scores from DXA examination of the lumbar spine and the affected hip were acquired from patients before THA. Indexes measured on AP hip radiographs including the canal calcar ratio (CCR), canal flare index (CFI), morphological cortical index (MCI), canal bone ratio (CBR), and canal bone area ratio (CBAR). The relevance between indexes and the T-score of femora was evaluated by correlation analysis, and the diagnostic value of indexes for osteopenia was examined by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. RESULTS A total of 81 patients were included. The average value of CBR-7, CBR-10, and CBAR (7-10) were highly related to the T-score of femora (r = - 0.592, r = - 0.634, and r = - 0.631, respectively, p < 0.0001). Results of the intra- and interobserver variation assessment was excellent. CBR-7, CBR-10, and CBAR (7-10) were significantly different between the non-osteopenia and osteopenia groups (p < 0.0001). CBR-10 had the biggest area under curve (AUC), means the great diagnostic value for osteopenia in the proximal femora (AUC = 0.821, cutoff value = 0.3805). CONCLUSION The canal bone ratio at 10 × 10-2 m under the level of the lesser trochanter proved to be a great indicator of femoral osteopenia. Abstract
Measuring eye movement is a fundamental approach in cognitive science as it provides a variety of insightful parameters that reflect brain states such as visual attention and emotions. Combining eye-tracking with multimodal neural recordings or manipulation techniques is beneficial for understanding the neural substrates of cognitive function. Many commercially-available and custom-built systems have been widely applied to awake, head-fixed small animals. However, the existing eye-tracking systems used in freely-moving animals are still limited in terms of their compatibility with other devices and of the algorithm used to detect eye movements. Here, we report a novel system that integrates a general-purpose, easily compatible eye-tracking hardware with a robust eye feature-detection algorithm. With ultra-light hardware and a detachable design, the system allows for more implants to be added to the animal's exposed head and has a precise synchronization module to coordinate with other neural implants. Moreover, we systematically compared the performance of existing commonly-used pupil-detection approaches, and demonstrated that the proposed adaptive pupil feature-detection algorithm allows the analysis of more complex and dynamic eye-tracking data in free-moving animals. Synchronized eye-tracking and electroencephalogram recordings, as well as algorithm validation under five noise conditions, suggested that our system is flexibly adaptable and can be combined with a wide range of neural manipulation and recording technologies.

Abstract
The impact and optimal control of non-point source (NPS) pollution on water environment have become the hot issues of current research. This paper simulates the characteristics of NPS pollution of Danjiang River Basin in 2013, 2014, 2016, and 2018 based on SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool) model. The spatial and temporal distribution is analyzed, and the critical source areas (CSA) according to the intensity of pollution loss are identified. Then, we set up nine single best management practices (BMPs) and three combined BMPs in the CSA, and the reduction effects of NPS pollution load of BMPs at the HRU scale and sub-basin scale are evaluated. The main research conclusions are as follows: (1) Based on the measured water quality and quantity data of Danfeng section from 2011 to 2019, the mean concentration method and the runoff division method are used to estimate the NPS pollution load at the Danfeng section, the NPS pollution loads of the total phosphorus (TP), ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N) and COD account for a large proportion in the total loads, which are 60.95-75.91%, 39.43-56.40%, and 59.37-74.37%, respectively. (2) In terms of temporal distribution, the impact to NPS pollution load is ranked as runoff > sediment > rainfall. In terms of spatial distribution, sediment has a great impact on nitrogen and phosphorus NPS pollution load. (3) The unit area load index method and the natural crack point classification method are used to identify the CSA in the basin. The information-entropy-basedmulti-attribute decision-making method to evaluate the cost-benefit value of management measures shows that control measures preferentially use combined BMPs, and the comprehensive cost-benefit attribute value reaches above 0.8. When using a single BMP, the comprehensive attribute value of returning the grain plots to forestry is high, reaching 0.62, which is suitable for NPS pollution control in a small area; for large-scale NPS pollution control, terrace project, supplemented by residue cover and grassed waterways is the more effective way in the river basin.

Abstract
PURPOSE Stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) is an important treatment modality for lung cancer patients, however, tumor local recurrence rate remains some challenge and there is no reliable prediction tool. This study aims to develop a prediction model of local control for lung cancer patients undergoing SBRT based on radiomics signature combining with clinical and dosimetric parameters. METHODS The radiomics model, clinical model and combined model were developed by radiomics features, incorporating clinical and dosimetric parameters and radiomics signatures plus clinical and dosimetric parameters, respectively. Three models were established by logistic regression (LR), decision tree (DT) or support vector machine (SVM). The performance of models was assessed by receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) and DeLong test. Furthermore, a nomogram was built and was assessed by calibration curve, Hosmer-Lemeshow and decision curve. RESULTS The LR method was selected for model establishment. The radiomics model, clinical model and combined model showed favorite performance and calibration (Area under the ROC curve (AUC) 0.811, 0.845 and 0.911 in the training group, 0.702, 0.786 and 0.818 in the validation group, respectively). The performance of combined model was significantly superior than the other two models. In addition, Calibration curve and Hosmer-Lemeshow (training group: P = 0.898, validation group: P = 0.891) showed good calibration of combined nomogram and decision curve proved its clinical utility. CONCLUSIONS The combined model based on radiomics features plus clinical and dosimetric parameters can improve the prediction of 1-year local control for lung cancer patients undergoing SBRT.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Extracellular electrophysiology has been widely applied to neural circuit dissections. However, long-term multiregional recording in free-moving mice remains a challenge. Low-cost and easy-fabrication of elaborate drivable electrodes is required for their prevalence. APPROACH A three-layer nested construct (OD ~1.80 mm, length ~10 mm, <0.1g) was recruited as a drivable component, which consisted of an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) heat-shrinkable tube, non-closed loop ceramic bushing, and stainless ferrule with a bulge twining silver wire. The supporting and working components were equipped with drivable components to be assembled into a drivable microwire electrode array with a nested structure (drivable MEANS). Two drivable microwire electrode arrays were independently implanted for chronic recording in different brain areas at respective angles. An optic fiber was easily loaded into the drivable MEANS to achieve optogenetic modulation and electrophysiological recording simultaneously. MAIN RESULTS The drivable MEANS had lightweight (~ 0.37 g), small (~ 15 mm ×15 mm × 4 mm), and low cost (≤ $64.62). Two drivable MEANS were simultaneously implanted in mice, and high-quality electrophysiological recordings could be applied ≥ 5 months after implantation in freely behaving animals. Electrophysiological recordings and analysis of the lateral septum (LS) and lateral hypothalamus (LH) in food-seeking behavior demonstrated that our drivable MEANS can be used to dissect the function of neural circuits. An optical fiber-integrated drivable MEANS (~ 0.47 g) was used to stimulate and record LS neurons, which suggested that changes in working components can achieve more functions than electrophysiological recordings, such as optical stimulation, drug release, and calcium imaging. SIGNIFICANCE Drivable MEANS is an easily fabricated, lightweight drivable microwire electrode array for multiple-region electrophysiological recording in free-moving mice. Our design is likely to be a valuable platform for both current and prospective users, as well as for developers of multifunctional electrodes for free-moving mice.

Abstract
The physiological chirality of extracellular environments is substantially affected by pathological diseases. However, how this stereochemical variation drives host immunity remains poorly understood. Here, it is reported that pathology-mimetic M-nanofibrils-but not physiology-mimetic P-nanofibrils-act as a defense mechanism that helps to restore tissue homeostasis by manipulating immunological response. Quantitative multi-omics in vivo and in vitro shows that M-nanofibrils significantly inhibit inflammation and promote tissue regeneration by upregulating M2 macrophage polarization and downstream immune signaling compared with P-nanofibrils. Molecular analysis and theoretical simulation demonstrate that M-chirality displays higher stereo-affinity to cellular binding, which induces higher cellular contractile stress and activates mechanosensitive ion channel PIEZOl to conduct Ca2+ influx. In turn, the nuclear transfer of STAT is biased by Ca2+ influx to promote M2 polarization. These findings underscore the structural mechanisms of disease, providing design basis for immunotherapy with bionic functional materials.

Abstract
Linkage disequilibrium (LD) is the non-random association of alleles at different loci. Squared LD coefficients r2 (for phased genotypes) and [Formula: see text] (for unphased genotypes) will converge to constants that are determined by the sample size, the recombination frequency, the effective population size and the mating system. LD can therefore be used for gene mapping and the estimation of effective population size. However, current methods work only with diploids. To resolve this problem, we here extend the linkage disequilibrium measures to include polysomic inheritance. We derive the values of r2 and [Formula: see text] at equilibrium state for various mating systems and different ploidy levels. For unlinked loci, [Formula: see text] for monoecious and dioecious (with random pairing) mating systems or [Formula: see text] for dioecious mating systems (with lifetime pairing), where f is the number of females in a half-sib family and η is a constant related to the ploidy level. We simulate the application of estimating Ne using unphased genotypes. We find that estimating Ne in polyploids requires similar sample sizes and numbers of loci as in diploids, with the main source of bias due to using 0.5 as the recombination frequency.

Abstract
This study investigated the presence of 18 dioxin-like and non-dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (dl- and ndl-PCBs), heavy metals (Cd, Hg, Pb, and As) in Chinese mitten crabs (Eriocheir sinensis) and their distribution in Jiangsu, China. Risk assessment and source apportionment were employed for evaluating the eco-toxicological impact and human exposure. It was found that the compositions of PCBs varied spatially, suggesting different sources of pollutants, whilst PCB 28, 105, 114, and 126 were consistently found in all sample types, suggesting a common pollution source remained, and the bio-accumulation process was in effect. The total PCBs in sediment were found much higher than in water, and brown meat had the highest and most diverse PCB congeners among all tissues. The presence of heavy metals was found in all samples in descending order of As>Cd>Pb>Hg and in the order of shell>brown meat>white meat>gill for crabs. The results of risk assessment indicated that the potential carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risks were within the acceptable range for long-term consumption of the crabs overall. However, the highest toxic equivalent (TEQ), carcinogenic, and non-carcinogenic risks were all recorded in Location C, where dl-PCB 126, 169, and As contributed to the majority of the risks. The ecological risk posed by all HMs was low, but cases of serious point source pollution have been found in the investigated regions, and risks caused by Cd individually should raise concerns. Source apportionment study revealed that the contaminants mostly originated from anthropogenic activities. Natural deposition and transportation played an important role as well.

Abstract
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was first reported in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China in December 2019. At present, COVID-19 has emerged as a global pandemic. The clinical features of this disease are not fully understood, especially the interaction of COVID-19 and preexisting comorbidities and how these together further impair the immune system. In this case study, we report a COVID-19 patient with cirrhosis. A 73-year-old woman with cirrhosis reported a fever and cough on February 6, 2020. CT of the chest indicated an infection in her bilateral lungs. She tested positive for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. The woman was treated with lopinavir and ritonavir tablets and interferon alpha-2b injection, but there was no obvious effect. Although this patient was basically asymptomatic after 2 days in the hospital, the inflammation of the bilateral lungs was slow to subside as shown in CT of the chest. In addition, the white blood cell count (WBC), absolute neutrophil count, and absolute lymphocyte count remained decreased and the result of real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (PCR) (rRT-PCR) assay was still positive for SARS-CoV-2 on hospital day 28. After infusion of plasma from a recovered COVID-19 patient four times, the patient tested negative for SARS-CoV-2. She was discharged on March 13, 2020. This patient tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 after infusion of plasma from a recovered COVID-19 patient four times. Cirrhosis could impair the homeostatic role of the liver in the systemic immune response, which may affect the removal of SARS-CoV-2. This could lead to a diminished therapeutic effect of COVID-19. Thus, clinicians should pay more attention to COVID-19 patients with cirrhosis.

Abstract
Gas sensors based on organic molecules are attractive for their tailored molecular structures and controllable functions, but weak interfacial adhesion between sensing materials and supporting substrates has severely hampered their practical applications, particularly in harsh environments. Here, inspired by the combined anchoring-recognizing feature of natural olfactory systems, an adhesive-integrated-agent strategy to integrate the adhesive unit (poly(dimethylsiloxane)) with the sensing unit (organoplatinum(II)) into one chemistry entity, creating robust and sensitive nanobelt array gas sensors is demonstrated. Systematic theoretical and experimental studies reveal that incorporating adhesive units significantly enhances the interfacial adhesion of the array sensors and gas-bridged super-exchange electronic couplings of sensing units ensure their efficient gas-sensing performance. The high shear strength of ≈7.05 × 106 N m-2 allows these arrays to resist aggressive ultrasonication, tape peeling, or repeated bending without compromising their sensing performance. This molecular engineering strategy opens a new guideline to develop robust gas sensors.

Abstract
A systematic understanding of dynamic animal extinction trajectories for different regions in a nation like China is critically important to developing practical conservation strategies. We explored historical and contemporary changes in terrestrial mammalian diversity to determine how diversity in each of the 5 regions in China has changed over time and to examine the conservation potential of these regions. We used records from databases on Pleistocene mammalian fossils and historical distribution records (1175-2020) for Primates (as a case study) to reconstruct evolutionary and historical distribution trajectories of the 11 orders of terrestrial mammals and to predict their prospective survival based on the national conservation strategy applied. The results indicated that since the Pleistocene, 4-5 mammalian orders have been lost in the northeast, 3 in central China, 2 along the coast, and 1 in the northwest. In the southwest, all 11 orders were maintained. Contemporarily, the coast and southwest had the highest and second-highest species densities. The southwest region and southeastern sections of the northwest region were the most historically and contemporarily diverse areas, which suggests that they should be the first priority for protected area (PA) designation. The central and coastal areas should be secondarily prioritized. In these 2 regions, conservation should focus on human coexistence with nature. Less attention should be paid to the PA in the northeast and western northwest because in these areas ecosystems are depauperate and the climate is harsh. Conservation in these areas should focus principally on avoiding further human encroachment on natural areas. Article impact statement: Historical and contemporary patterns of extinction can be a basis for mammalian conservation strategies.
