Abstract
OBJECTIVES Data from high-income countries (HICs) indicate that sedentary behavior is negatively associated with moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) in young people. We examined associations between leisure-time sedentary behavior (LTSB) and MVPA in adolescents from 47 low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). STUDY DESIGN Cross-sectional study. METHODS Data from the Global school-based Student Health Survey were analyzed in 140,808 adolescents (13.8 ± 1.0 years; 49% girls). Time spent in LTSB was a composite variable assessing time spent sitting and playing computer games, watching TV, talking with friends during a typical day. The PACE + Adolescent Physical Activity Measure assessed MVPA levels. The association between ≥3 h/day of LTSB and adequate physical activity levels (every day last week 60 min MVPA) was explored with multivariable logistic regression analyses. RESULTS The prevalence of ≥3 h/day of LTSB and 60 min of MVPA/day last week were 26.3% (girls 26.2%; boys 26.5%) and 15.3% (girls 12.1%; boys 18.4%), respectively. LTSB of ≥3 h/day versus <3 h/day was associated with a 35% increased odds for adequate levels of MVPA in boys [OR = 1.35 (95%CI = 1.23-1.48)] and 22% in girls [1.22 (95%CI = 1.10-1.36)]. CONCLUSIONS Our data indicate that being physically active 60 min per day every day and at moderate-to-vigorous intensity and being sedentary ≥3 h/day during leisure-time might co-exist in adolescents in some LMICs.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Health professional-led group programmes are a common form of long-term condition self-management support. Much research has focused on clinical outcomes of group participation, yet there is limited research on how group participants perceive and experience the support they receive. We aim to identify the different types of support that participants receive from both facilitators and other participants, and how they value this support. METHODS Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 20 participants taking part in a self-management group programme for a long-term condition (obesity, type 2 diabetes or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). Data pertaining to support types were deductively identified through a social support framework prior to interpretive thematic analysis. RESULTS Participants identified information and emotional support from both facilitators and other participants as complementary yet distinct. Facilitators' support came from professional training and other participants' support reflected the contextual, lived experience. Professional interactions were prioritised, constraining opportunities for participant-participant support to be received and exchanged. DISCUSSION We identified a key gap in how self-management support is enacted in groups. Engaging participants to share experiential knowledge will make group support more relevant and mutually beneficial to participants living with a long-term condition.

Abstract
Identifying the presence of brominated flame retardants (BFRs) within individual polymer types prior to extrusion has given us a unique perspective on which polymers may be problematic in meeting European Union (EU) low persistent organic pollutant (POP) content limits (LPCLs) and the potential for mixed engineering plastics (MEP) to be used as a viable recycled product. Our findings suggest that careful management of the polymer types within the feed chips prior to extrusion could deliver extruded polymer pellets that meet the EU LPCL values for POP-BFRs (i.e. <1000 mg/kg). Within this study, three fractions of extruded polymer pellets ("light", "medium", and "heavy" MEP) were created using density separation. Each fraction was characterised for 28 legacy and novel BFRs with brominated diphenyl ether-209 (BDE-209) (68-37,000 mg/kg) and tetrabromobisphenol-A (TBBP-A) (17-120,000 mg/kg) both predominant and ubiquitous. Portable X-ray fluorescence (XRF) was utilised to measure Br in 120 individual MEP chips of various polymer types. Those chips that XRF flagged as having high Br concentrations (>2500 mg/kg) were subjected to further evaluation for BFR content via mass spectrometry analysis and the results compared with the XRF Br data. This revealed that in 22% of the 120 chips studied, XRF incorrectly identified the LPCL to be exceeded. Our data also identifies the presence of the novel BFRs decabromodiphenyl ethane (DBDPE) and 1,2-bis(2,4,6-tribromophenoxy) ethane (BTBPE) in plastics derived from waste electronic and electrical equipment (WEEE). While the "light-MEP" samples contained POP-BFR concentrations below LPCLs, the "medium-MEP" and "heavy-MEP" fractions exceeded such limits. Management of the polymer chips by colour sorting resulted in significant reductions in concentrations of all BFRs in the clear polymers such that LPCL limits were not exceeded; however, concentration reductions in white polymers were insufficient to meet LPCLs.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aims to provide medical educators with insights into the current status and prospects of undergraduate medical education, which has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. MATERIALS AND METHODS We conducted a database search of PubMed, Embase, and ERIC and identified articles on COVID-19-related undergraduate medical education. We independently reviewed titles and abstracts and extracted data on the geographic location of the study, area of specialty, phase in medical school (preclinical year, clerkship year, etc.), type of paper, and the main content of the study. RESULTS A total of 49 articles published across multiple countries were included in this study. These were categorized as dealing with either (1) curriculum changes in undergraduate medical education due to COVID-19 or (2) student-led educational activities related to COVID-19. The 41 articles in the first category showed two main trends: replacing in-person lectures with online classes in the preclinical years and adopting various remote educational methods to compensate for the discontinued or truncated clerkship in the clinical years. The eight articles in the second category showcased various student educational activities that were conducted to meet the public's medical needs during the pandemic. CONCLUSIONS This review summarized the essential changes in undergraduate medical education worldwide and reflected on the various teaching methods adopted by medical schools. In preparation for the post-COVID era, a comprehensive online curriculum and evaluation tools are needed, which require the development of necessary infrastructure and adequate resources. Education aimed at helping students be more socially aware and responsible as medical professionals must be promoted.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sutured inguinal hernia repairs are now uncommon, with evidence suggesting that those augmented with mesh are associated with a lower recurrence rate. We aimed to explore the suggestion that the established use of mesh does indeed lower the rate of operation for recurrence in a single National Health Service region. METHOD We collected retrospective Office of Population Censuses and Surveys coded data across one region of all primary and recurrent inguinal hernia repairs over 15 years (2004-2019). Electronic records of recurrent repairs were scrutinised to identify year and type of previous primary repair. RESULTS In total, 7,234 repairs were performed during this time, of which 289 (4%) were for symptomatic recurrence. Operations for primary repair increased year on year (111 in 2004 to 402 in 2019). Frequency of operation for recurrent herniation declined with increasing use of mesh (8.8% in 2004 to 3.5% in 2019). The majority of repairs (73%) for recurrence were by an open approach. As opposed to an open mesh repair, a primary laparoscopic repair was associated with an earlier recurrence. CONCLUSIONS Inguinal hernia repairs are increasing in frequency but operations for later symptomatic recurrence following an open primary prosthetic mesh repair are not.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Although many previous meta-analyses of epidemiological studies have demonstrated a relationship between body mass index (BMI) and mortality, inconsistent findings among cardiovascular disease patients have been observed. Thus, we performed an umbrella review to understand the strength of evidence and validity of claimed associations between BMI and mortality in patients with cardiovascular diseases. MATERIALS AND METHODS We comprehensively re-analyzed the data of meta-analyses of observational studies and randomized controlled trials on associations between BMI and mortality among patients with cardiovascular diseases. We also assessed the strength of evidence of the re-analyzed outcomes, which were determined from the criteria including statistical significance of the p-value of random-effects, as well as fixed-effects meta-analyses, small-study effects, between-study heterogeneity, and a 95% prediction interval. RESULTS We ran comprehensive re-analysis of the data from the 21 selected studies, which contained a total of 108 meta-analyses; 23 were graded as convincing evidence and 12 were suggestive, 42 were weak, and 23 were non-significant. CONCLUSIONS Underweight increased mortality in acute coronary syndrome (ACS), heart failure, and after therapeutic intervention for patients with cardiovascular diseases. Overweight, on the other hand decreased mortality in patient's ACS, atrial fibrillation, and heart failure with convincing evidence.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aim was to analyse the overall and sex-specific associations between cannabis use and physical activity and sedentary behaviour. STUDY DESIGN Cross-sectional analyses from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). METHODS Data on cannabis use and leisure time physical activity and sedentary behaviour from NHANES cycles 2007-2008 to 2015-2016 were analysed. Multivariable regression models were carried out. RESULTS About 15,822 participants were analysed (mean age ± standard error = 37.5 ± 0.19 years, range 20-59 years). Significantly higher odds were found for being active and ever used cannabis in the overall sample (odds ratio [OR] = 1.2, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.1-1.4) and in males (OR = 1.3, 95% CI: 1.1 to 1.5) and females (OR = 1.2, 95% CI: 1.0-1.4), respectively. In respective of sedentary behaviour, ever used cannabis was associated with higher odds of TV viewing ≥2 h/day in the overall sample (OR = 1.2, 95% CI: 1.0-1.4). However, this association was observed in males only (OR = 1.3, 95% CI: 1.1-1.6). Ever used cannabis was associated with total sitting time (beta-coefficient = 0.3, 95%CI: 0.1-0.4), which was more evident in females (beta-coefficient = 0.4, 95% CI: 0.1-0.6). CONCLUSIONS Cannabis consumption was associated with higher levels of physical activity and sitting time. When intervening to reduce cannabis consumption in the US populations, it may be appropriate to promote physical activity and ensure physical activity is maintained once cannabis consumption is stopped.

Abstract
Belantamab mafodotin (belamaf) is a BCMA-targeted antibody-drug conjugate recently approved as monotherapy for adults with relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma who have received ≥4 prior therapies. Belamaf binds to BCMA and eliminates myeloma cells by multimodal mechanisms of action. The cytotoxic and potential immunomodulatory properties of belamaf have led to novel combination studies with other anticancer therapies. Here, we describe the rationale and design of DREAMM-5, an ongoing Phase I/II platform study evaluating the safety and efficacy of belamaf combined with novel agents, including GSK3174998 (OX40 agonist), feladilimab (an ICOS; GSK3359609), nirogacestat (a gamma-secretase inhibitor; PF-03084014) and dostarlimab (a PD-1 blocker) versus belamaf monotherapy for patients with relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma. Abstract
Background The Australasian Integrative Medicine Association (AIMA) established a working group to develop the AIMA Guiding Principles for Letter Writing and Letter Writing Templates. The guiding principles were developed to promote effective communication between the diverse range of healthcare practitioners (HCPs) that patients choose to consult. Following the development of the Interprofessional Communication (IPC) resources, AIMA undertook a public consultation as part of a quality assurance process to evaluate the relevance and utility of the resource. Aim This study reports stakeholder feedback on AIMA's draft guiding principles document. It explores stakeholder attitudes towards IPC and HCPs letter-writing, and interest in ongoing continuing professional development (CPD). Methods A cross-sectional survey involving 1) an online public consultation survey and 2) a paper survey collected following IPC CPD activities. Quantitative data were analysed using Chi square and Fisher-Freeman-Halton Test. Responses to open ended questions were coded and subject to a thematic analysis. Results The 64 survey participants and 55 CPD participants represented the Australian healthcare sectors and lay community. Most thought IPC is important (n = 112/117; 96%) and the resources were informative (n = 112/119; 94%), understandable (n = 111/119; 93%), and clinically relevant (n = 105/117; 90%). HCP reported wide variations in their frequency of correspondence with other practitioner types, with rates often concerningly low. Key IPC themes identified were the importance of continuity of care, clarity of communication, and professional practice. CPD participants were most interested in further IPC training (p = 0.001). Conclusions The IPC resources affirm the role of formal communication pathways, such as letters of correspondence to support coordinated, patient-centred and multidisciplinary care. Challenges with letter writing and IPC signal the need for more student and professional education on the subject to promote continuity of patient care and the delivery of high quality, integrative medicine and health care services.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Walker-Warburg syndrome, muscle-eye-brain disease, and Fukuyama congenital muscular dystrophy are α-dystroglycan-related muscular disorders associated with brain malformations and eye abnormalities in which no structural inner ear abnormality has been described radiologically. We collected patients from 6 tertiary pediatric hospitals and reported the radiologic features and frequency of inner ear dysplasias. MATERIALS AND METHODS Patients previously diagnosed clinicoradiologically with Walker-Warburg syndrome, muscle-eye-brain disease, or Fukuyama congenital muscular dystrophy were included. We recorded the pathogenic variant, when available. Brain MR imaging and/or CT findings were reviewed in consensus, and inner ear anomalies were classified according to previous description in the literature. We then correlated the clinicoradiologic phenotype with the inner ear phenotype. RESULTS Thirteen patients fulfilled the criteria for the Walker-Warburg syndrome phenotype, 8 for muscle-eye-brain disease, and 3 for Fukuyama congenital muscular dystrophy. A dysplastic cochlea was demonstrated in 17/24. The most frequent finding was a pronounced cochlear hypoplasia type 4 with a very small anteriorly offset turn beyond the normal-appearing basal turn (12/13 patients with Walker-Warburg syndrome and 1/11 with muscle-eye-brain disease or Fukuyama congenital muscular dystophy). Two of 8 patients with muscle-eye-brain disease, 1/3 with Fukuyama congenital muscular dystrophy, and 1/13 with Walker-Warburg syndrome showed a less severe cochlear hypoplasia type 4. The remaining patients without Walker-Warburg syndrome were healthy. The vestibule and lateral semicircular canals of all patients were normal. Cranial nerve VIII was present in all patients with diagnostic MR imaging. CONCLUSIONS Most patients with the severe α-dystroglycanopathy Walker-Warburg syndrome phenotype have a highly characteristic cochlear hypoplasia type 4. Patients with the milder variants, muscle-eye-brain disease and Fukuyama congenital muscular dystrophy, more frequently have a normal cochlea or milder forms of hypoplasia.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Recently, two influential articles that reported the association of (hydroxy)chloroquine or angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) mortality were retracted due to significant methodological issues. Therefore, we aimed to analyze the same clinical issues through an improved research method and to find out the differences from the retracted papers. We systematically reviewed pre-existing literature, and compared the results with those of the retracted papers to gain a novel insight. MATERIALS AND METHODS We extracted common risk factors identified in two retracted papers, and conducted relevant publication search until June 26, 2020 in PubMed. Then, we analyzed the risk factors for COVID-19 mortality and compared them to those of the retracted papers. RESULTS Our systematic review demonstrated that most demographic and clinical risk factors for COVID-19 mortality were similar to those of the retracted papers. However, while the retracted paper indicated that both (hydroxy)chloroquine monotherapy and combination therapy with macrolide were associated with higher risk of mortality, our study showed that only combination therapy of hydroxychloroquine and macrolide was associated with higher risk of mortality (odds ratio 2.33; 95% confidence interval 1.63-3.34). In addition, our study demonstrated that use of ACE inhibitors or angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) was associated with reduced risk of mortality (0.77; 0.65-0.91). CONCLUSIONS When analyzing the same clinical issues with the two retracted papers through a systematic review of randomized controlled trials and relevant cohort studies, we found out that (hydroxy)chloroquine monotherapy was not associated with higher risk of mortality, and that the use of ACE inhibitors or ARBs was associated with reduced risk of mortality in COVID-19 patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Hematologic cancer patients with Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) tend to have a more serious disease course than observed in the general population. Herein, we comprehensively reviewed existing literature and analyzed clinical characteristics and mortality of patients with hematologic malignancies and COVID-19. MATERIALS AND METHODS Through searching PubMed until June 03, 2020, we identified 16 relevant case studies (33 cases) from a total of 45 studies that have reported on patients with COVID-19 and hematologic malignancies. We investigated the clinical and laboratory characteristics including type of hematologic malignancies, initial symptoms, laboratory findings, and clinical outcomes. Then, we compared those characteristics and outcomes of patients with hematologic malignancies and COVID-19 to the general population infected with COVID-19. RESULTS The median age was 66-year-old. Chronic lymphocytic leukemia was the most common type of hematologic malignancy (39.4%). Fever was the most common symptom (75.9%). Most patients had normal leukocyte counts (55.6%), lymphocytosis (45.4%), and normal platelet counts (68.8%). In comparison to patients with COVID-19 without underlying hematologic malignancies, dyspnea was more prevalent (45.0 vs. 24.9%, p=0.025). Leukocytosis (38.9 vs. 9.8%, p=0.001), lymphocytosis (45.4 vs. 8.2%, p=0.001), and thrombocytopenia (31.3 vs. 11.4%, p=0.036) were significantly more prevalent and lymphopenia (18.2 vs. 57.4%, p=0.012) less prevalent in patients with hematologic malignancies. There were no clinical and laboratory characteristics predicting mortality in patients with hematologic malignancies. Mortality was much higher in patients with hematologic malignancies compared to those without this condition (40.0 vs. 3.6%, p<0.001). CONCLUSIONS Co-occurrence of hematologic malignancies and COVID-19 is rare. However, due to the high mortality rate from COVID-19 in this vulnerable population, further investigation on tailored treatment and management is required.

Abstract
Multi-modality treatment strategies are more becoming commonplace in veterinary oncology practice yet the evidence base is far inferior to what has been generated in people. Surgery is unquestionably the cornerstone of most solid tumour treatment plans but certain scenarios dictate combining surgery with systemic chemotherapy and radiation therapy as an adjunct. By using these in the neoadjuvant setting, one can leverage certain effects of the treatment to improve local disease control, improve overall survival, gain insight into drug efficacy, reduce surgical morbidity and reduce long-term complications. An unintended consequence of combining therapies is an increased flow of information between members of the care team upfront that in almost all cases leads to improved patient outcomes albeit a difficult metric to quantify. This review sets out to explore some of the principles of neoadjuvant therapies and discuss potential opportunities to expand the evidence base in veterinary medicine.

Abstract
Atypical Aeromonas salmonicida (aAs) and Vibrionaceae related species are bacteria routinely recovered from diseased ballan wrasse used as cleaner fish in the Atlantic salmon farming industry. Autogenous (i.e. farm specific inactivated) multivalent vaccines formulated from these microorganisms are widely used to protect farmed wrasse despite limited experimental proof that they are primary pathogens. In this study, the components of a commercial multivalent injection vaccine containing four strains of Aeromonas salmonicida and one strain of Vibrio splendidus previously isolated from ballan wrasse in Scotland, were tested for infectivity, pathogenicity and virulence via intra peritoneal injection at pre-deployment size (25-50 g) and the efficacy of the vaccine for protection against aAs assessed. Injection with 3.5 × 109, 8 × 109 1.8 × 109 and 5 × 109 cfu/fish of Vibrio splendidus, V. ichthyoenteri, Aliivibrio logeii and A. salmonicida, respectively, did not cause significant mortalities, lesions or clinical signs after a period of 14 days. IP injection with both aAs and Photobacterium indicum successfully reproduced the clinical signs and internal lesions observed during natural outbreaks of the disease. Differences in virulence (LD50 at day 8-post infection of 3.6 × 106 cfu/fish and 1.6 × 107 cfu/fish) were observed for two aAs vapA type V isolates. In addition, the LD50 for Photobacterium indicum was 2.2 × 107 cfu/fish. The autogenous vaccine was highly protective against the two aAs vapA type V isolates after 700-degree days of immunisation. The RPSFINAL values for the first isolate were 95 and 91% at 1 × 106 cfu/fish and 1 × 107 cfu/fish, respectively, and 79% at 1 × 107 cfu/fish for the second isolate tested. In addition, significantly higher anti aAs seral antibodies (IgM), were detected by ELISA in vaccinated fish in contrast with control (mock vaccinated) fish. These results suggest wrasse can be effectively immunised and protected against aAs infection by injection with oil adjuvanted vaccines prepared with inactivated homologous isolates.

Abstract
The literature has identified promising findings regarding the application of arts-based initiatives to enhance healthcare professional (HCP) training. Research shows that drawings offer a window into the authentic, insider view of health and illness, with potential to be a platform for healthcare student and HCP learning. In addition, drawings may also have a place in health communication. Our previous work provides support for the educational application of patients' drawings in bringing HCPs closer to the patient's lived experience. Subsequently, this study aimed to explore university educators' opinions regarding the implementation of drawings as an educational tool for higher education healthcare students. The objective of this study was to explore pathways for using drawings as an art form in an educational context, and provide recommendations for developing curricula and resources for further evaluation. Findings from focus group interviews with nine university educators revealed support for the use of drawings as a novel medium as they offer rich insights into the patient's perspective while encouraging creative and critical thinking. Key perceived benefits were that drawings foster student appreciation of (1) the holistic impact of illness, (2) the importance of patients' priorities and (3) the value of learning from the patient. Patients' drawings of their experiences would offer needed opportunities for students to explicitly reflect about the 'person' holistically rather than view the patient as a 'biomedical problem'. Shifting students' perspectives and possible assumptions to be better aligned with and appreciative of the patient's experiences was noted as central to adopting a person-centred approach to healthcare practice. Our findings suggest that incorporating drawings, or indeed other art forms, as educational tools would be a valuable addition to the health curricula.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We recently demonstrated that chronic dietary exposure to a mixture of pesticides at low-doses induced sexually dimorphic obesogenic and diabetogenic effects in adult mice. Perinatal pesticide exposure may also be a factor in metabolic disease etiology. However, the long-term consequences of perinatal pesticide exposure remain controversial and largely unexplored. OBJECTIVES Here we assessed how perinatal exposure to the same low-dose pesticide cocktail impacted metabolic homeostasis in adult mice. METHODS Six pesticides (boscalid, captan, chlopyrifos, thiachloprid, thiophanate, and ziram) were incorporated in food pellets. During the gestation and lactation periods, female (F0) mice were fed either a pesticide-free or a pesticide-enriched diet at doses exposing them to the tolerable daily intake (TDI) level for each compound, using a 1:1 body weight scaling from humans to mice. All male and female offsprings (F1) were then fed the pesticide-free diet until 18 weeks of age, followed by challenge with a pesticide-free high-fat diet (HFD) for 6 weeks. Metabolic parameters, including body weight, food and water consumption, glucose tolerance, and urinary and fecal metabolomes, were assessed over time. At the end of the experiment, we evaluated energetic metabolism and microbiota activity using biochemical assays, gene expression profiling, and 1H NMR-based metabolomics in the liver, urine, and feces. RESULTS Perinatal pesticide exposure did not affect body weight or energy homeostasis in 6- and 14-week-old mice. As expected, HFD increased body weight and induced metabolic disorders as compared to a low-fat diet. However, HFD-induced metabolic perturbations were similar between mice with and without perinatal pesticide exposure. Interestingly, perinatal pesticide exposure induced time-specific and sex-specific alterations in the urinary and fecal metabolomes of adult mice, suggesting long-lasting changes in gut microbiota. CONCLUSIONS Perinatal pesticide exposure induced sustained sexually dimorphic perturbations of the urinary and fecal metabolic fingerprints, but did not significantly influence the development of HFD-induced metabolic diseases.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sedentary occupations have increased by more than 10% in Western countries over the last two decades, and the yearly global cost of physical inactivity has been estimated to be $53.8 billion. As workers tend to move less in the workplace, they are more likely to develop a sedentarism-related chronic condition and to be absent from work due to illness, although research evidence on the issue remains unclear. AIMS To investigate associations between physical activity (PA) and sickness absenteeism in the workplace among Spanish university workers. METHODS We conducted cross-sectional research with data from 1025 workers aged 18-65 years (43% women) from a Spanish university. Physical Activity Vital Sign (PAVS) and International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) short versions were used to evaluate levels of PA. Workplace absenteeism was self-reported by participants. Written questionnaires distributed during medical checks included PAVS, IPAQ and the question about absenteeism among other information. The association between PA and sickness absenteeism was examined using adjusted multiple linear regression. RESULTS After adjusting for age, sex, job function, chronic conditions, sedentarism and smoking, each weekly hour of PA reduced sickness absence by -1.20 (95% confidence interval: -2.40-0.00) days per year. CONCLUSIONS The implementation of PA promotion strategies aimed at university employees may lead to a reduction of days off work due to illness.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To date there is limited literature on the prevalence of chronic skin conditions and its association with levels of physical activity (PA) in Spain. AIM To determine the prevalence of chronic skin disease and to compare levels of PA between people with and without chronic skin disease in a large representative sample of Spanish adults aged 15-69 years. METHODS Data from the Spanish National Health Survey 2017 were analysed. Chronic skin disease was assessed using a yes/no question. PA was measured using the short form of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire. Total PA metabolic equivalent of task min/week were calculated, and PA was included in the analyses as a continuous and a five-category variable. RESULTS This cross-sectional study included 17 777 adult participants (52.0% women; mean ± SD age 45.8 ± 14.1 years), of whom 940 (5.3%) had chronic skin disease. After adjusting for several potential confounders, there was a negative association between chronic skin disease and PA (OR = 0.87, 95% CI 0.76-1.00, P = 0.05), which was significant for men (OR = 0.76, 95% CI 0.62-0.93, P = 0.01) but not for women (OR = 0.97, 95% CI 0.81-1.16, P = 0.72). CONCLUSIONS In this large representative sample of Spanish adults, the prevalence of chronic skin disease was low. Levels of PA were lower in men with than in men without chronic skin conditions, but this association was not seen in women.
