[The peripheral blood inflammatory markers in Ménière's disease patients with and without migraine]

Objective: To investigate the peripheral blood inflammatory markers including white blood cell count (WBC), monocytes, neutrophils, lymphocytes, platelets, neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR), high-density lipoprotein(HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein and fibrinogen (FIB) in Ménière's disease (MD) patients with and without migraine, and to explore the relationship between the inflammatory response with MD and migraine. Methods: The general physical condition, clinical manifestations, pure-tone audiometry, and peripheral blood inflammatory markers of 92 unilateral MD patients who were hospitalized in Peking University People's Hospital for surgical treatment from January 2017 to January 2021 were continuously collected. Meanwhile, 50 healthy controls matched with age and sex were included, and their general physical conditions and peripheral blood inflammatory markers were also collected. This study consisted of two parts. First, the differences in epidemical characteristics and peripheral blood inflammatory markers between MD patients and healthy controls were compared by univariate analysis. Second, all 92 MD patients were divided into two subgroups according to whether they were accompanied by migraine. The clinical characteristics and peripheral blood inflammatory markers of MD patients with and without migraine were compared by univariate analysis. Thereafter, binary Logistic regression was used to analyze the related factors of whether MD patients were accompanied with migraine. Results: Compared with the healthy control group, the peripheral blood WBC, neutrophils and FIB of MD patients were significantly increased (all P<0.05). Compared with MD patients without migraine, MD patients with migraine had higher female prevalence, longer disease history, lower low-frequency hearing threshold, higher frequency of vertigo attacks and higher HDL-C levels (all P<0.05), meanwhile, female, frequency of vestibular attacks and HDL-C were independent related factors of whether MD patients were accompanied with migraine. Conclusion: The occurrence of MD and migraine may be related to the inflammatory response. The level of anti-inflammatory factors in the blood of MD patients with migraine are higher, suggesting that the inflammatory response status of MD patients with and without migraine is different.

[Cryptogenic ischemic cerebral vascular disease with patent foramen ovale: analysis of the long-term efficacy of treatments and prognostic factors]

Objective: To evaluate the long-term efficacy of treatments on cryptogenic ischemic cerebral vascular disease (CICVD) with patent foramen ovale (PFO) and analyze prognostic factors, so as to provide the references for the treatment and secondary prevention of PFO related cerebral vascular disease. Methods: Consecutive patients with CICVD and PFO related right-to-left shunting confirmed by transesophageal echocardiography or transcranial doppler bubble test, who admitted to the Department of Neurology in Xuanwu Hospital from May 1, 2012 to December 31 2021 were enrolled. All the patients underwent hypercoagulability screening, and the degree of hypercoagulability was evaluated by a scoring scale. Each PFO was classified as either high-risk or low-risk according to its anatomic features. Patients were divided into the drug treatment group (including antiplatelet and anticoagulation therapies) and transcatheter PFO closure group. After follow-up, the recurrence of cerebral ischemic events were compared between the two groups by Kaplan-Meier method, the prognostic factors were analyzed by multifactorial Cox's regression model. Results: A total of 117 patients were recruited, 10 patients were lost to follow-up, and 107 patients were included in the final analysis, consisting of 66 males and 41 females, with age ranging from 14 to 67 years and the follow-up period of 1 229 (45, 3 508) d. The recurrence rate of cerebral ischemic events was 6% (4/66) and 7% (3/41) for the drug treatment group (66 cases) and closure group (41 cases), respectively, and residual shunting was detected in all patients with recurrent events in the closure group. Cumulative hazard curve indicated that there was no significant difference of recurrence risk of cerebral ischemic events between the two groups (cumulative recurrence rate: 17.9% in the closure group vs 7.1% in the drug treatment group, χ²=0.368, P=0.544), and the insignificance persisted even in subgroup analysis of CICVD patients with either high-risk (χ²=0.685, P=0.408) or low-risk PFO (χ²=0.072, P=0.789). Cox's regression model indicated that hypercoagulability related factor score was an independent predictor of recurrent cerebral ischemic events (HR=2.079, 95%CI 1.069-4.045, P=0.031) after adjusting for high-risk PFO, PFO closure and other confounding factors. Moreover, a rising trend of cumulative recurrence rate was observed as the score got higher (P=0.046). Conclusions: For CICVD patients with either high-risk or low-risk PFO, the significant value of drug treatment as the first-line therapy for PFO related CICVD should not be ignored, which awaits further discussion. The abnormality of hypercoagulability related factors might increase the recurrent risk of cerebral ischemic events, which calls for more attention and should be screened and treated with corresponding medication.

[Diagnostic value and application of 24 h multichannel intraluminal impedance-pH monitoring in children with gastroesophageal reflux disease]

Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic value and application of 24 h multichannel intraluminal impedance-pH (24 h MII-pH) monitoring in children with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Methods: This is a cross-sectional study. From January 2013 to December, 2020, 417 patients who received 24 h MII-pH monitoring in Department of Gastroenterology of Children's Hospital Capital Institute of Pediatrics were included. According to results, these children were divided into the GERD and non-GERD groups. Furthermore, the 132 children with GERD who had gastroscopy were divided into the reflux esophagitis (RE) and non-erosive reflux disease (NE) groups to investigate the differences in their refluxes. Non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test or indepentent sample t test was used for comparisons between the groups. Results: Among the 417 children, 232 were males and 185 females, aged (7.3±3.9) years. The course of disease was 0.5 (0.1, 2.0) years. The main clinical symptoms included acid reflux (128 cases), vomiting (173 cases), abdominal pain (101 cases), and cough (76 cases). The 24 h MII-pH monitoring were positive in 243 children (58.3%, 243/417), which was higher than that by 24 h esophageal pH monitoring (43.6%, 182/417). The 24 h MII-pH monitoring results demonstrated significant differences in the episodes of acid reflux, weakly acidic reflux, non-acidic reflux, liquid reflux and mixed reflux between GERD and non-GERD groups (10 (4, 19) vs. 4 (1, 9) times/24 h, 14 (6, 32) vs. 7 (3, 13) times/24 h, 0 (0, 0) vs. 0 (0, 0) times/24 h, 19 (10, 34) vs. 8 (3, 14) times/24 h, and 6 (2, 12) vs. 3 (1, 5) times/24 h, Z=-6.96, -7.25, -5.62, -8.75, and -6.48, all P<0.05, respectively). Besides, the results also showed significant differences in Boix-Ochoa score, episodes of long reflux, course of long reflux, and episodes of weakly acidic reflux between the RE and NE groups (51.2 (21.4, 153.2) vs. 20.7 (12.1, 34.7), 5 (2, 10) vs. 1 (0, 4) times/24 h, 19 (7, 87) vs. 8 (3, 22) min, and 5 (2, 15) vs. 15 (6, 33) times/24 h, Z=-3.44, -3.41, -2.65, and -2.27, all P<0.05, respectively). Conclusion: 24 h MII-pH monitoring not only improves the detection rate of GERD in children, but also provides a possibility to early etiological diagnosis.

[Effect of deep dermal tissue dislocation injury on skin fibrosis in pig]

Objective: To explore the effect of deep dermal tissue dislocation injury on skin fibrosis in pig, in order to provide some theoretical basis for burn scar treatment. Methods: The experimental research method was applied. Six 2-month-old female Duroc pigs were taken. Fifteen operative areas on the right dorsum of pigs on which medium-thick skin grafts and deep dermal tissue slices were cut and re-implanted were included into dermal in situ reimplantation group, and fifteen operative areas on the left dorsum of pigs on which medium-thick skin grafts and deep dermal tissue slices were cut and the deep dermal tissue slice was placed under the fat layer were included into the dermal dislocation group. The hair growth in the operative areas on post-injury day (PID) 7, 14, and 21 and the cross-sectional structure on PID 14 were observed in the two groups. On PID 7, 14, and 21, the skin thickness (the distance from the epidermis to the upper edge of the fat), the dermal thickness (the distance from the lower edge of the epidermis to the upper edge of the fat, excluding the fibrotic tissue thickness between the dermis and the fat), and the fibrosis tissue thickness of the dermis-fat interface (from the lower edge of the deep dermis to the upper edge of the fat in dermal in situ reimplantation group and from the lower edge of the superficial dermis to the upper edge of the fat in dermal dislocation group) in the operative areas were measured and compared between the two groups; the fibrotic tissue thickness at the dermal cutting interface (from the lower edge of the superficial dermis to the upper edge of the deep dermis) in the operative areas in dermal in situ reimplantation group was measured and compared with the fibrotic tissue thickness at the dermal-fat interface. Sirius red staining was performed to observe and compare the type Ⅰ and Ⅲ collagen content in the dermal-fat interface in the operative areas between the 2 groups and between the dermal cutting interface and dermal-fat interface in the operative areas in dermal in situ reimplantation group. Immunohistochemical staining was performed to observe the positive expressions of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), transforming growth factor β1 (TGF-β1), fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF-2), and hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) in the operative areas in the two groups. The sample number was 6. Data were statistically analyzed with independent sample t test. Results: On PID 7, 14, and 21, the hairs in the operative areas in dermal in situ reimplantation group were denser than those in dermal dislocation group. On PID 14, the skin cross section in the operative areas in dermal dislocation group showed a "sandwich"-like structure, while the skin cross section in the operative areas in dermal in situ reimplantation group had normal structure. On PID 7, 14, and 21, the skin thickness in the operative areas in dermal dislocation group was (4 234±186), (4 688±360), and (4 548±360) μm, respectively, which was close to (4 425±156), (4 714±141), and (4 310±473) μm in dermal in situ reimplantation group (P>0.05); the dermal thickness in the operative areas in dermal dislocation group was significantly thinner than that in dermal in situ reimplantation group (with t values of -9.73, -15.85, and -15.41, respectively, P<0.01); the fibrotic tissue thickness at the dermal-fat interface in the operative areas in dermal dislocation group was significantly thicker than that in dermal in situ reimplantation group (with t values of 14.48, 20.58, and 15.67, respectively, P<0.01); there was no statistically significant difference between the fibrotic tissue thickness at the dermal-fat interface and the dermal cutting interface in the operative areas in dermal in situ reimplantation group (P>0.05). On PID 7, 14, 21, the type Ⅲ collagen content in the dermal-fat interface in the operative areas in dermal dislocation group was increased significantly compared with that in dermal in situ replantation group (with t values of 2.65, 0.61, and 7.39, respectively, P<0.05 or P<0.01), whereas there were no statistically significant differences in the type Ⅰ collagen content at the dermal-fat interface in the operative areas between the 2 groups (P>0.05) and the type Ⅰ and Ⅲ collagen content between the dermal-fat interface and the dermal cutting interface in the operative areas in dermal in situ reimplantation group (P>0.05). On PID 7, 14, and 21, PCNA, TGF-β1, FGF-2, and HGF were positively expressed in the superficial dermis and adipose tissue in the operative areas in dermal dislocation group, while PCNA, TGF-β1, FGF-2, and HGF were positively expressed in the superficial dermis, deep dermis, and adipose tissue in the operative areas in dermal in situ reimplantation group. Conclusions: Inadequate intrinsic thickness of dermal tissue is the key factor causing fibrosis, and the biological purpose of fibrosis is to "compensate" the intrinsic thickness of the skin. Besides, adipose tissue may also be an important component of fibrotic skin repair.

Assessing the current genetic structure of 21 remnant populations and predicting the impacts of climate change on the geographic distribution of Phoebe sheareri in southern China

Phoebe sheareri is a valuable tree species known as "Golden Nanmu" and is one of the most important protected tree species in China. However, natural populations are decreasing because of climate change and anthropogenic factors. To evaluate the genetic diversity and structure of remnant populations and the impacts of climate change on the distribution of potential suitable habitats, we conducted a field investigation and sampled 21 P. sheareri natural populations to evaluate their genetic diversity and structure using simple sequence repeat (SSR) molecular markers. Then, we predicted the distribution of suitable P. sheareri habitats across China under future scenarios (RCP 2.6 and RCP 8.5) and periods (2050 and 2070) using multivariate modeling methods-the MaxEnt model. The results showed a medium level of genetic diversity and low inbreeding in the 21 P. sheareri natural populations, and genetic differentiation among populations was significant, with 21.2 % genetic variation among populations. The remnant populations of P. sheareri were grouped into four genetic clusters based on genetic structure; five environmental variables involving four temperature variables and precipitation seasonality (Bio12) might determine the distribution of P. sheareri populations. In the future, the suitable habitats of P. sheareri are manifested as northward migration, and the highly suitable habitats are expected to increase. Our results highlight the importance of conservation units in situ, giving priority to populations with higher genetic diversity (e.g., TMS, FJS, and THY populations); sampling strategies for ex situ conservation, breeding and reforestation should consider climate change, especially Bio1 (annual mean temperature) and Bio12 (annual precipitation). Overall, this study may provide useful genetic information for strategies for the protection, management, and utilization of P. sheareri.

Combined Effect of TID Radiation and Electrical Stress on NMOSFETs

The combined effect of total ionizing dose (TID) and electrical stress is investigated on NMOSFETs. For devices bearing both radiation and electrical stress, the threshold voltage shift is smaller than those only bearing electrical stress, indicating that the combined effect alleviates the degradation of the devices. The H bond is broken during the radiation process, which reduces the participation of H atoms in the later stage of electrical stress, thereby reducing the degradation caused by electrical stress. The positive charges of the oxide layer generated by radiation neutralize part of the tunneling electrons caused by electrical stress, and consume some of the electrons that react with the H bond, resulting in weaker degradation. In addition, the positive charges in shallow trench isolation (STI) generated by radiation create parasitic leakage paths at the interfaces of STI/Si, which increase the leakage current and reduce the positive shift of the threshold voltage. The parasitic effect generated by the positive charges of STI makes the threshold voltage of the narrow-channel device degrade more, and due to the gate edge effect, the threshold voltage of short-channel devices degrades more.

Manipulation of microstructure of MXene aerogel via metal ions-initiated gelation for electromagnetic wave absorption

MXene aerogels with 3D network structure have gained much attention as lightweight electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorbers. It is still challenging to construct MXene aerogel monoliths with excellent EMW absorption capability in a simple way. Herein, the assembly of MXene aerogels was realized by gelation initiated by various metal ions in an aqueous dispersion, where metal ions link the MXene sheets together by bonding with OH groups on the MXene surface. It is found that metal ions have a great influence on the assembly microstructures of MXene aerogels, which are closely related with the complex permittivity of MXene aerogel absorbers. Versus divalent metal ions, MXene aerogels assembled with trivalent metal ions possess relative lower complex permittivity and deliver superior EMW absorption performance. Typically, a broadest EAB of 7.12 GHz can be achieved by MX-Fe³⁺, ascribing to its good impedance matching and multiple dissipation modes. Overall, this work provides an effective way to fabricate MXene-based aerogels to satisfy the lightweight requirement of future high-performance EMW absorption materials.

Transcription factor MdLSD1 negatively regulates α-farnesene biosynthesis in apple-fruit skin tissue

α-Farnesene is a sesquiterpene present in plants. It was first discovered in apples. It plays an important role in the plant defence response and is considered a key factor in the occurrence of superficial scald. The gene encoding α-farnesene synthase, which is the last key enzyme in the biosynthetic pathway of α-farnesene in apple fruit, has become the primary target enzyme for controlling the genetic manipulation of α-farnesene biosynthesis. In this study, the yeast one-hybrid assay and the dual luciferase assay were used to ascertain the relationship between MdLSD1 and MdAFS. Real-time PCR was used to analyse the molecular mechanism underlying the regulation of MdAFS by MdLSD1. Our results revealed that transcription factor MdLSD1, which is closely related to programmed cell death in apple fruit tissues, binds to MdAFS. Transient transformation of apple skin with vectors overexpressing MdLSD1 showed that the gene negatively regulates MdAFS. Overall, we suggest that MdLSD1 negatively regulates MdAFS. Our results are of great significance for future research on the transcriptional regulation of the α-farnesene synthase gene and provide a new direction for exploring the specific mechanism of programmed cell death involved in superficial-scald incidence.

[Effect of dyslipidemia on clinical outcome of infertility patients receiving donor eggs]

Objective: To explore the effect of dyslipidemia on the clinical outcome of intracytoplasmic sperm injection-embryo transfer (ICSI-ET) in infertility patients receiving donor eggs. Methods: A total of 118 patients were selected to receive egg donors and ICSI-ET at the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University between April 2007 and December 2020. According to the levels of triacylglycerol, serum cholesterol, high density lipoprotein (HDL), and low density lipoprotein, they were divided into dyslipidemia group (35 cases) and normal blood lipids group (83 cases). The influence of body mass index (BMI) and age was adjusted by 1∶1 propensity score matching, and the general condition and clinical outcome of the two groups were analyzed retrospectively. Finally, the relationship between lipid composition and clinical outcome was analyzed according to patients' age and BMI. Results: (1) Comparing the pre-matching dyslipidemia group with the normal blood lipids group, the BMI of the dyslipidemia group was significantly higher than that of the normal blood lipids group [(23.5±2.4) vs (22.4±2.7) kg/m²], and the embryo implantation rate was significantly lower than that of the normal blood lipids group [13.6% (8/59) vs 27.3% (36/132)], the differences were statistically significant (both P<0.05). (2) There were no significant differences in years of infertility, number of pregnancies, number of abortions, number of transplanted embryos, protocol of endometrial preparation, endometrial thickness on transplantation day and high quality embryo rate between the two groups, through propensity score matching (all P>0.05). The biochemical pregnancy rate [28.6% (10/35)], embryo implantation rate [13.6% (8/59)] and live birth rate [20.0% (7/35)] in dyslipidemia group were significantly lower than those in the normal blood lipids group (P<0.05). The clinical pregnancy rate was lower than that of the normal blood lipids group (P>0.05). (3) The results of stratified analysis showed that the level of HDL in the clinically non-pregnant group was significantly lower than that in the pregnant group in patients ≤ 35 years old [(1.5±0.3) vs (1.8±0.5) mmol/L; P<0.05]. In the overweight recipient patients, the level of HDL of the clinically non-pregnant group was lower than that of the pregnant group (P>0.05). Conclusions: Dyslipidemia significantly reduces the biochemical pregnancy rate, embryo implantation rate and live birth rate in patients with receiving donor eggs. Especially in patients aged ≤35 years old, the reduction of HDL is closely related to adverse pregnancy outcomes.

[Comparison on the prognosis of severe aortic stenosis patients treated with transcatheter aortic valve replacement versus surgical aortic valve replacement: a systematic review and meta-analysis]

Objective: To systematically review the prognosis of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) versus surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) in patients with severe aortic stenosis. Methods: A systematic search of PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, Cochrane Library, China biomedical literature database, China journal full text database (CNKI), Wanfang database and VIP database from January 2012 to February 2022 was conducted for randomized controlled trial (RCT) that comparing TAVR and SAVR in the treatment of severe aortic stenosis. The primary outcomes were the incidence of all-cause mortality, stroke incidence, reoperation rate and complications (pacemaker implantation, atrial fibrillation) at 1 month and 1, 2, 5 years after operation. Jadad scale was used to evaluate the literature quality of RCTs. All statistical analyses were performed using the standard statistical procedures provided in RevMan 5.4.1. Results: A total of 17 studies including 11 712 patients were identified, including 6 007 patients treated with TAVR and 5 705 patients treated with SAVR. There were 4 high-quality studies and 13 medium-quality studies. The results of meta-analysis showed that the rate of new onset atrial fibrillation was lower in TAVR group than that in SAVR group (RR=0.28, 95%CI 0.21-0.38, P<0.001), and there was no significant difference in all-cause death, stroke, pacemaker implantation and reoperation rate (all P>0.05) at 30 days follow-up. At one year after TAVR and SAVR treatment, all-cause mortality (RR=0.85, 95%CI 0.74-0.97, P=0.01) and new onset atrial fibrillation (RR=0.28, 95%CI 0.20-0.39, P<0.001) were lower in TAVR group than SAVR group. However, the pacemaker implantation rate was higher in TAVR group than that of SAVR group (RR=1.79, 95%CI 1.11-2.89, P=0.02), while there was no significant difference in the incidence of stroke and reoperation between the two groups (P>0.05). At two years after TAVR and SAVR treatment, the pacemaker implantation rate was higher in TAVR group than that in SAVR group (RR=2.23, 95%CI 1.28-3.86, P=0.004), and the rate of new atrial fibrillation was lower in TAVR group than that in SAVR group (RR=0.46, 95%CI 0.38-0.56, P<0.001). There was no significant difference in all-cause death, stroke and reoperation rates between the two groups (P>0.05). At five years after TAVR and SAVR treatment, the pacemaker implantation rate (RR=1.89, 95%CI 1.13-3.17, P=0.02) and reoperation rate (RR=3.64, 95%CI 1.75-7.58, P=0.000 5) were higher in TAVR group than those in SAVR group, while the rate of new onset atrial fibrillation was lower in TAVR group than that in SAVR group (RR=0.45, 95%CI 0.37-0.55, P<0.001). There was no significant difference in all-cause death and stroke incidence between the two groups (all P>0.05). Conclusions: The all-cause mortality and the incidence of new onset atrial fibrillation after TAVR are lower than SAVR, and TAVR is a preferred therapy for patients with aortic stenosis.

[Epidemiological characteristics of a local cluster epidemic caused by 2019-nCoV Delta variant in Ningbo, 2021]

Objective: To understand the epidemiological characteristics of a local clustered epidemic caused by 2019-nCoV Delta variant in Ningbo and provide reference for the improvement of COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control. Methods: Case finding was conducted based on case definitions, and field epidemiological investigation of COVID-19 cases was carried out. In which Nasal and oropharyngeal swabs of the cases were collected for pathogen testing, and the results were analyzed with descriptive epidemiological methods. Results: A total of 74 COVID-19 cases were reported in this epidemic, and the cases were mainly mild ones, accounting for 87.84% (65/74), and there were no severe or critical cases. The epidemic curve showed a human-to-human transmission mode, indicating that a transmission for at least six generations had occurred. The age of the COVID-19 patients ranged from 2 years to 80 years, and 27.03% (20/74) of the cases were older than 60 years. The cases were mainly workers (55.41%, 41/74) and housework/the unemployed (27.03%, 20/74). The COVID-19 epidemic was limited, and no further spread to other areas occurred. The transmission chain among the cases was clear, and the gene sequencing results confirmed that the current epidemic was caused by 2019-nCoV Delta variant, which was highly homologous to the strains from other province. Conclusion: The local COVID-19 epidemic in Ningbo was caused by imported cases of COVID-19 from other province, and local community spread occurred through daily contacts between cases and contacts.

[Phenotypes and genotypes of 78 patients with propionic acidemia]

Objective: Propionic acidemia is a rare inherited metabolic disorder caused by propionyl CoA carboxylase (PCC) deficiency. This study aims to analyze the clinical characteristics and gene variations of Chinese patients with propionic acidemia, and to explore the correlation between clinical phenotypes and genotypes. Methods: Single-center, retrospective and observational study. Seventy-eight patients of propionic acidemia (46 males and 32 females) from 20 provinces and autonomous regions were admitted from January 2007 to April 2022. Their age of initial diagnosis ranged from 7 days to 15 years. The clinical manifestations, biochemical and metabolic abnormalities, genetic variations, diagnosis, treatment and outcome were studied. Chi-Square test or Mann-Whitney U test were used for statistical analysis. Results: Among 78 cases, 6 (7.7%) were identified by newborn screening; 72 (92.3%) were clinically diagnosed after onset, and the age of onset was 2 hours after birth to 15 years old; 32 cases had early-onset disease and 40 cases had late-onset disease. The initial manifestations included lethargy, hypotonia, vomiting, feeding difficulties, developmental delay, epilepsy, and coma. Among the 74 cases who accepted gene analysis, 35 (47.3%) had PCCA variants and 39 (52.7%) had PCCB variants. A total of 39 PCCA variants and 32 PCCB variants were detected, among which c.2002G>A and c.229C>T in PCCA and c.838dupC and c.1087T>C in PCCB were the most common variants in this cohort. The variants c.1228C>T and c.1283C>T in PCCB may be related to early-onset type. The variants c.838dupC, c.1127G>T and c.1316A>G in PCCB, and c.2002G>A in PCCA may be related to late-onset disease. Six patients detected by newborn screening and treated at asymptomatic stage developed normal. The clinically diagnosed 72 cases had varied complications. 10 (12.8%) cases of them died. 62 patients improved after metabolic therapy by L-carnitine and diet. Six patients received liver transplantation because of recurrent metabolic crisis. Their clinical symptoms were markedly improved. Conclusion: The clinical manifestations of propionic acidemia are complex and lack of specificity. Newborn screening and high-risk screening are keys for early treatment and better outcome. The correlation between the genotype and phenotype of propionic acidemia is unclear, but certain variants may be associated with early-onset or late-onset propionic acidemia.

Phosphorus-modified two-dimensional graphdiyne (CnH2n-2)/ZnCdS forms S-scheme heterojunctions for photocatalytic hydrogen production

Graphdiyne (GDY) is a new type of carbon allotrope material with a network structure composed of sp- and sp²-hybridized carbon, and its excellent photoelectrochemical properties have an extraordinary impact on energy materials. In this work, a graphite alkyne material was calcined and used as an anchor substrate to fix bimetallic sulfide-zinc-cadmium sulfide to form a phosphorus-doped graphdiyne (GDY-P)/zinc-cadmium sulfide (ZnCdS) heterojunction photocatalyst. The close contact between the 2D/0D binary heterojunction interfaces produced a strong interfacial force, and the final hydrogen evolution rate of the GDY-P/ZnCdS structure reached 10 395.57 μmol g^-1 h^-1, which was 2.57 and 240 times those of ZnCdS and GDY, respectively. The S-scheme heterojunction constructed by GDY-P and ZnCdS accelerates the formation of electron-hole pairs, improves the utilization of strongly reduced electrons, and overcomes the self-agglomeration of ZnCdS, ensuring the high hydrogen evolution activity of the binary structure. This work provides a new application paradigm for the construction of S-scheme heterojunctions for hydrogen evolution using new carbon materials in the field of photocatalysis.
