Abstract
Irradiation of a Ne matrix sample containing NO and CO near 4 K with an ArF excimer laser at 193 nm yielded new lines at 2045.1 and 968.0 cm(-1) that were depleted upon secondary photolysis at 308 nm. These lines are assigned to C=O stretching and mixed stretching modes of ONCO, based on results of 15N-, 13C-, and 18O-isotopic experiments and quantum-chemical calculations. These calculations using density-functional theory (B3LYP and PW91PW91/aug-cc-pVTZ) predict five stable isomers of NCO2: ONCO, NCOO, N-cyc-CO2, CNOO, and cyc-CNOO, listed in order of increasing energy. According to B3LYP calculations, ONCO has a trans configuration, with bond angles of angleONC approximately 136.3 degrees and angleNOC approximately 160.7 degrees. Calculated vibrational wave numbers, IR intensities, 15N-, 13C-, and 18O-isotopic shifts for ONCO agree satisfactorily with experimental results. ONCO was formed from reaction of CO with NO in its excited state.

Abstract
Irradiation of an Ar matrix sample containing H2S and CO (or OCS) with an ArF excimer laser at 193 nm yields trans-HSCO (denoted t-HSCO). New lines at 1823.3, 931.6, and 553.3 cm(-1) appear after photolysis and their intensity enhances after annealing; secondary photolysis at 248 nm diminishes these lines and produces OCS and CO. These lines are assigned to C-O stretching, HSC-bending, and C-S stretching modes of t-HSCO, respectively, based on results of 13C-isotopic experiments and theoretical calculations. Theoretical calculations using density-functional theories (B3LYP and PW91PW91) predict four stable isomers of HSCO: t-HSCO, c-HSCO, HC(O)S, and c-HOCS, listed in increasing order of energy. According to calculations with B3LYP/aug-cc-pVTZ, t-HSCO is planar, with bond lengths of 1.34 A (H-S), 1.81 A (S-C), and 1.17 A (C-O), and angles angle HSC congruent with 93.4 degrees and angle SCO congruent with 128.3 degrees; it is more stable than c-HSCO and HC(O)S by approximately 9 kJ mol(-1) and more stable than c-HOCS by approximately 65 kJ mol(-1). Calculated vibrational wave numbers, IR intensities, and 13C-isotopic shifts for t-HSCO fit satisfactorily with experimental results. This new spectral identification of t-HSCO provides information for future investigations of its roles in atmospheric chemistry.

Abstract
The effect of in ovo administration of antiadipocyte monoclonal antibodies (MAb) on growth and adipose tissue development in chickens was investigated. In Trial 1, 60 fertilized eggs from layer-type chickens were injected into allantoic circulation with different amounts of MAb against chicken adipocyte plasma membranes (0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, and 0.4 mg) on Day 15 of embryogenesis. In Trial 2, 180 fertilized broiler eggs were injected into allantoic circulation with 0.2 mg MAb on Day 15 of embryogenesis. In Trial 1, high doses (0.2 and 0.4 mg) of MAb in in ovo injection reduced (P < or = 0.05) abdominal fat pad weight without affecting total body weight at 42 d of age. Only the highest dose (0.4 mg) significantly reduced hatch rate. In Trial 2, adipose tissue (pectoral, femoral, and abdominal), major organ (heart, liver, and spleen), and total body weights at 14 d of age were not affected by in ovo injection. Hatch success rate of eggs was not significantly different among treatments. However, by 6 wk of age, in ovo injection of MAb significantly reduced (P < or = 0.05) abdominal fat pad weight by more than 28%. This relative fat pad mass reduction occurred without affecting femoral or pectoral fat tissues. Total body weight and feed intake were not affected among treatments. Our experiments demonstrated for the first time that in ovo administration of anti-adipocyte MAb on Day 15 of embryogenesis reduced the chicken abdominal fat pad mass by 42 d of age without affecting growth or body weight.

Abstract
Three-center two-electron bonds are important for understanding electron-deficient molecules. To examine such a molecule, we produced a diborane(5) anion with a single-bridged structure upon electron bombardment during matrix deposition of Ar containing a small proportion of diborane(6). The diborane(5) anion was destroyed upon photolysis at 180, 220, 385, and 450 nm, but not at 532 nm. Moreover, the possible formation of neutral diborane(5) was observed upon photolysis at 385 and 450 nm, whereas neutral diborane(3) was observed upon photolysis at 180 and 220 nm. The observed line wavenumbers, relative intensities, and isotopic ratios of the diborane(5) anion agreed satisfactorily with those predicted by density functional theory calculations at the B3LYP/aug-cc-pVTZ level of theory. Thus, this method produced the boron hydride anion of interest with few other fragments, which enabled us to clearly identify the IR spectrum of the diborane(5) anion.

Abstract
Three anti-T Cell receptor (TCR) antibodies, BF1, BF2, and WT31 were studied for their specificity and usefulness as immunohistochemical reagents. These antibodies were all satisfactory in the staining of normal peripheral lymphoid tissues and cortical thymic lymphocytes were reactive with BF1 and BF2 but not with WT31. Hassall's corpuscles in two of three thymuses studied reacted with all three antibodies. BF1 was superior to the other two antibodies, especially for lymphoid cells in cytospin preparations. Fifty-five lymphomas, 24 nonlymphoid malignancies, seven established cell lines, and five cases of large granular lymphocyte (LGL) proliferation with neutropenia were studied. The majority of non-T-cell lesions did not react with the antibodies. An occasional case showed weak reactivity which could be easily distinguished from the usual strong reaction with T-cells. Tumor cells from over 90% of snap frozen peripheral T-cell lymphomas reacted with BF1 and BF2. BF1 was the preferred antibody since it gave a stronger and more consistent reaction. It was also the antibody of choice in identifying T-lymphoblastic lymphomas. Michel's solution fixed tissue showed markedly diminished or absent reactivity with BF2 and WT31, but BF1 reactivity was less affected. Some unusual T-cell phenotypes, with respect to the pattern of expression of BF1 antigen and CD3, were observed. BF1 and anti-CD3, in combination, would be useful in identifying T-cell lesions with aberrant or unusual TCR-CD3 phenotypes.

Abstract
The nuclear matrix is the nonchromatin protein structural component of the nucleus that governs nuclear shape and also exerts regulatory control over higher order gene organization. Recent studies have documented the presence of tumor-associated nuclear matrix proteins in several human cancers. We used high-resolution two-dimensional gel electrophoresis to compare nuclear matrix protein patterns in cervical carcinomas with those from normal cervical tissue. Tumors obtained from 20 patients undergoing hysterectomy for clinically localized cervical cancer were compared with normal cervical tissue. We have identified five polypeptides (CvC-1: Mr = 69,408 Da, pI = 5. 78; CvC-2: Mr = 53,752 Da, pI = 5.54; CvC-3: Mr = 47,887 Da, pI = 5. 60; CvC-4: Mr = 46,006 Da, pI = 5.07; and CvC-5: Mr = 44,864 Da, pI = 6.61) in the nuclear matrix from cervical carcinomas that were present in 20 of 20 cervical tumors but 0 of 10 normal tissues. These data extend similar findings of cancer-associated nuclear matrix proteins in other human cancers and suggest that nuclear matrix proteins may represent a new class of cancer markers that could aid the diagnosis or management of some types of cancer.

Abstract
The current study investigated the immunomodulating effect of CKBM on cytokine induction in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) isolated from 20 healthy volunteers. Cytometric Bead Analysis (CBA) was used to study IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-10, TNF-alpha and IFN-gamma. TNF-alpha and IL-6 were significantly increased in a CKBM dose- and time-dependent manner. Flow cytometry analysis showed an increased intracellular staining of IL-6 but not of TNF-alpha in CKBM treated PBMCs. In addition, MTT cell cytotoxicity assay showed that CKBM concentrations below 5% did not significantly affect the metabolic activities of PBMCs. The current study indicated that CKBM may modulate the immune response by inducing the secretions of TNF-alpha and IL-6, which are cytokine mediators of innate immunity and inflammation preparing or "priming" the body to combat diseases.

Abstract
AIMS/HYPOTHESIS We characterised insulin resistance, metabolic defects and endocrine dysfunction in cultured adipose cells and examined the autocrine or paracrine roles of cytokines/adipokines in the progression of insulin resistance. MATERIALS AND METHODS Rat primary adipose cells were prepared and cultured for 24 and 48 h. Insulin resistance and gene expression were examined by glucose uptake assay, cDNA microarray and real-time RT-PCR. RESULTS After 24 h in culture, the fold increase of insulin-stimulated glucose uptake in adipose cells was markedly reduced; after 48 h the response of the cells to insulin decreased. cDNA microarray analysis showed that the expression of 514 genes was altered in adipose cells after 24 h in culture. The dysregulated genes included those involved in the citric acid cycle and in fatty acid and pyruvate metabolism. Specifically, the following genes were all downregulated: genes encoding lipolytic and lipogenic enzymes; uncoupling protein 1 and 2 genes; peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma, coactivator 1 alpha gene. This indicates that lipolytic and lipogenic activity, as well as mitochondria capacity decline in adipose cells cultured for 24 h. The mRNAs encoding 40 adipokines were also dysregulated in cultured cells. Strikingly, the dysregulated adipokines in cultured cells and in freshly isolated adipose cells from insulin-resistant Zucker fa/fa rats displayed a similar pattern with regard to protein functions. Also striking was the fact that progression of insulin resistance was promoted by the adipokines secreted from insulin-resistant adipose tissue or cells. CONCLUSIONS/INTERPRETATION Our data demonstrate that the impairment of metabolism and endocrine dysfunction in cultured adipose cells mimics the insulin resistance occurring in vivo. Cytokines and adipokines appear to play a critical role in the progression of insulin resistance in adipose cells.

Abstract
Between March and August 1986 in Huangshi City, serum samples were collected from 316 apparently healthy barbers as a study group, as well as from 361 healthy employees of department stores as a control group. They were tested for hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), antibody to HBsAg (anti-HBs) and antibody to hepatitis B core antigen (anti-HBc) by enzyme-linked immunoadsorbent assays. Barbers showed a prevalence higher than that in controls for HBsAg (16.8 vs. 9.2%, P less than 0.01), anti-HBs (67.1 vs. 45.9%, P less than 0.001), and anti-HBc (39.2 vs. 21.2%, P less than 0.001). The prevalence of at least one marker of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection was significantly higher in barbers than in controls (86.1 vs. 61.7%, P less than 0.001). Although the socioeconomic status and education level did not correlate with the frequency of HBV markers, the prevalence of HBsAg increased in parallel with the duration of practice. Because of their high risk for HBV infection, barbers need to be screened for markers of HBV infection on a routine basis, and are prime candidates for immunoprophylaxis with hepatitis B vaccine.

Abstract
Hypervalent molecules are one of the exceptions to the octet rule. Bonding in most hypervalent molecules is well rationalized by the Rundle–Pimentel model (three-center four-electron bond), and high ionic bonding between the ligands and the central atom is essential for stabilizing hypervalent molecules. Here, we produced one of the simplest hypervalent anions, HF−, which is known to deviate from the Rundle–Pimentel model, and identified its ro-vibrational features. High-level ab inito calculations reveal that its bond dissociation energy is comparable to that of dihalides, as supported by secondary photolysis experiments with irradiation at various wavelengths. The charge distribution analysis suggested that the F atom of HF− is negative and hypervalent and the bonding is more covalent than ionic.

Abstract
To facilitate direct spectroscopic observation of hydrogen chloride anions (HCl-), electron bombardment of CH3Cl diluted in excess Ar during matrix deposition was used to generate this anion. Subsequent characterization were performed by IR spectroscopy and quantum chemical calculations. Moreover the band intensity of HCl- decays slowly when the matrix sample is maintained in the dark for a prolonged time. High-level ab inito calculation suggested that HCl- is only weakly bound. Atom-in-molecule charge analysis indicated that both atoms of HCl- are negatively charged and the Cl atom is hypervalent.

Abstract
Total genomic DNA was extracted from 29 samples of rice seed, including jasmine rice Oryza sativa L. subsp indica 'KDML105', 'KDML105'-derived varieties, nonaromatic Thailand rice, and japonica rice. Polymorphism in RAPD profiles was analyzed to explore the genomic structure specific to jasmine rice. The degree of band sharing was used to evaluate genetic distance between varieties and to construct a phylogenetic tree. RD15, CNTLR85033, and CNT87040 were found to be closest to 'KDML105', which was consistent with the true relation among them. Four RAPD fragments that cooperatively distinguished jasmine rice from others were cloned and sequenced. PCR amplification using pairs of primers designed specifically further confirmed the credibility of the RAPD result. Comparison through Genbank revealed that a 454 bp RAPD band was similar to the first intron of a putative Cf2/Cf5 disease resistance gene and a 1,107 bp RAPD band similar to a wall-associated kinase (wak) gene sequence.

Abstract
This study investigated the influence of salinity and ammonium levels on ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB) and archaea (AOA) by monitoring their amo subunit A (amoA) messenger RNA (mRNA) expression. The aerobic mini-continuous stirred-tank reactors (mini-CSTRs) were operated for 48 h under different salinity or ammonium levels. Quantification of archaeal and bacterial amoA mRNA levels using real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, combined with terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism (T-RFLP) analysis, was applied to investigate the differential transcriptional responses among AOA species. High salinity levels repressed both archaeal and bacterial amoA mRNA expressions. On the other hand, high ammonium levels repressed only archaeal mRNA expression, suggesting that ammonium is a significant environmental factor shaping abundance of AOA and AOB. T-RFLP results indicated that the impacts of salinity and ammonium levels were different among AOA species. Although further study is necessary to add significance to our findings, the combination of the short-term mini-CSTR operations and amoA mRNA-based analyses allow a preliminary study on the influences of environmental factors on competition between the AOA and AOB communities.

Further irradiation of the matrix sample at 365 nm detached the electron from HFB- and produced its neutral counterpart HFB in solid Ar. Secondary photolysis of the matrix sample at 160 nm destroyed HFB and generated HFB- and PFP. In a separate experiment, the photolysis of the HFB/Ar matrix at 160 nm produced PFP, Dewar-C6F6, and various neutral fluorocarbon species, but without the production of HFB-. The infrared (IR) lines of HFB- and PFP were assigned on the basis of the observed photochemical behaviors, as well as by comparing the predictions of the vibrational wavenumbers with the corresponding IR intensities and the relative stabilities of the related species predicted via the B3LYP/aug-cc-pVTZ theory.

Abstract
The 1-methylvinoxy radical (1-MVO) is an important intermediate in the combustion and tropospheric reaction of OH. However, the vibrational structures of this species and its anionic form, 1-methylvinoxide anion (1-MVO-), are not fully known. Thus, in this study, we obtained the infrared (IR) absorption spectra of 1-MVO and 1-MVO- trapped in a solid Ar matrix. 1-MVO- anions were produced by electron bombardment during matrix deposition of Ar containing a small amount of acetone. The anions were destroyed upon irradiation at 675, 365, and 160 nm, although the formation of 1-MVO was only observed upon irradiation at 675 nm. The assignment of the IR bands of 1-MVO- and 1-MVO was based on the expected chemistry upon photoexcitation and comparison of line wavenumbers, relative IR intensities, and D-isotopic shift ratios with those predicted at the B3LYP/aug-cc-pVTZ level of theory.

Abstract
The abnormal insulin secretion found in human diabetics and animal models of diabetes has been attributed to the deleterious effects of chronic hyperglycemia and/or elevated circulating levels of nonesterified fatty acids (NEFAs). In this study, abnormal glucose-induced insulin secretion (GIIS) was generated by a 48-hour infusion of glucose and assessed by the isolated perfused pancreas technique. In these hyperglycemic animals, abnormal GIIS is accompanied by a decrease in plasma NEFAs, while plasma and, more importantly, islet triglycerides remain at levels comparable to those in the controls. It is concluded that the abnormal insulin secretion in this glucose infusion model was likely caused by 48 hours of hyperglycemia and not by changes in circulating or islet lipids.

Abstract
Objective: This study aims to investigate the efficacy and safety of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell bridging allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) in the treatment of recurrent and refractory acute B-lymphocytic leukemia (R/R B-ALL) . Methods: A total of 50 R/R B-ALL patients who underwent CAR T-scell therapy to bridge allo-HSCT in the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University from January 2017 to May 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. The overall survival (OS) rate, event-free survival (EFS) rate, cumulative recurrence rate (CIR) , and transplant-related mortality (TRM) of patients with different bone marrow minimal residual disease (MRD) levels were analyzed before and after CAR T-cell infusion and before allo-HSCT. Results: The response rate of CAR T-cell therapy and the incidence rate of severe cytokine release syndrome were 92% and 28% , respectively. During 55 infusions, no treatment-related deaths occurred in any of the patients. The median time of CAR T-cell infusion to allo-HSCT was 54 (26-232) days, the median follow-up time after CAR T-cell infusion was 637 (117-1097) days, and the 1-year OS and EFS rates were (80.0±5.7) % and (60.0±6.9) % . The 1-year CIR and TRM after allo-HSCT were (28.0±0.4) % and (8.0±0.2) % . After CAR T-cell infusion and before allo-HSCT, patients with bone marrow MRD<0.01% had a significantly longer EFS [ (70.0±7.2) % vs (20.0±12.6) % , P<0.001; (66.7±7.5) % vs (36.4±14.5) % , P=0.008]and lower CIR [ (25.0±0.5) % vs (70.0±2.6) % , P<0.001; (23.08±0.47) % vs (45.45±2.60) % , P=0.038]. Conclusion: CAR T-cell therapy bridging allo-HSCT is safe and effective for recurrent and refractory B-ALL.

Abstract
Bacillus popilliae, a fastidious, aerobic, gram-positive, spore-forming bacillus, has never been reported as a pathogen in human infectious diseases. We report the first case of a human infected by the pathogen B. popilliae, which presented as endocarditis involving the bicuspid aortic valve and complicated with prolonged (> 30 days; to our knowledge, the longest in the literature) complete heart block. Although surgery may be warranted by previous reports, the patient was successfully managed by medical treatment instead, because of the absence of evidence from various approaches that support the existence of perivalvular extension of infection.
