Abstract
The relative ability of the small laccase (sLac) and dye-decoloring peroxidase (DyP2) from Amycolatopsis sp. 75iv2 to transform a variety of lignins was investigated using time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS). The enzymes modified organosolv hardwood lignin to different extents even in the absence of an added mediator. More particularly, sLac decreased the lignin modification metric S (S-lignin)/Ar (total aromatics) by 58% over 16h, while DyP2 lowered this ratio by 31% in the absence of exogenous H2O2. When used on their own, both sLac and DyP2 also modified native lignin present in aspen wood powder, albeit to lesser extents than in the organosolv lignin. The addition of ABTS for sLac and Mn2+ as well as H2O2 for DyP2 led to increased lignin modification in aspen wood powder as reflected by a decrease in the G/Ar metric by up to a further 13%. This highlights the importance of exogenous mediators for transforming lignin within its native matrix. Furthermore, the addition of ABTS reduced the selectivity of sLac for S-lignin over G-lignin, indicating that the mediator also altered the product profiles. Finally, when sLac was included in reactions containing DyP2, in part to generate H2O2in situ, the relative abundance of lignin products differed from individual enzymatic treatments. Overall, these results identify possible routes to tuning lignin modification or delignification through choice of enzyme and mediator. Moreover, the current study expands the application of ToF-SIMS to evaluating enzyme action on technical lignins, which can accelerate the discovery and engineering of industrially relevant enzymes for lignin valorization.

Abstract
In this study, the potential of industrial celery by-products (the stalk and root) serving as sources of aromatics and antioxidants was investigated. A headspace solid phase microextraction–gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (HS-SPME–GC–MS) procedure was optimized to isolate volatile compounds from celery by-products. A Box–Behnken experimental design was proposed to optimize the procedure through a response surface methodology. The optimal extraction conditions were found to be 1.6 g of homogenized fresh by-product at 30 °C for 60 min. Under these conditions, 26 volatile compounds in stalk and root samples were identified, monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes being the main components. The content of limonene and γ-terpinene found in the stalk was significantly higher in comparison with root samples. Total phenolic content and antioxidant activity (ABTS and FRAP) results underlined the celery wastes studied as good sources of free radical scavengers. This work suggests the potential application of these by-products in the food industry and opens new pathways to valorize celery residues, contributing to the circular economy.

Abstract
The properties of edible films derived from corn starch (CS) and methylcellulose (MC) supplemented with fireweed extract (FE; 0.0125-0.05% w/w) were analyzed. Due to their more crystalline structure, the MC films were significantly stronger (~26 MPa) than the CS films (~4 MPa). In turn, CS produced films with lower water vapor permeability (WVP, 50.12-51.74 vs. 56.52-59.10 g mm m-2 d-1 kPa-1). The hydrothermally-disrupted starch granules contributed to high roughness and opacity of the CS films. The FE-supplemented films exhibited an intensive yellow color and improved the UV-absorbing effect. FE delayed starch retrogradation, as indicated by the reduced crystallinity and slightly improved transparency of the CS films. Incorporation of FE significantly enhanced the released radical scavenging activity (RSA) of the films, while did not affect the WVP and mechanical properties. Due to better FE-trapping capacity, the CS-based films exhibited lower antioxidant activity (RSA60min = 2.21-19.75%) as compared to the MC counterparts (RSA60min = 4.87-38.31%).

Abstract
Malachite green (MG) is used as fungicide/parasiticide in aquaculture, its persistence is detrimental as it exhibits carcinogenic effects to aquatic organisms. Bacterial laccase evaluated as the best enzyme at extreme condition for aquatic MG removal. Study aims to increase laccase concentration, CotA-laccase from Bacillus subtilis was cloned and overexpressed in Escherichia coli. Optimal catalysis for purified CotA-laccase were at pH 5.0, 60 °C, and 1 mM of (2,2-azino-di-[3-ethylbenzothiazoline-sulphonate-(6)]) with Km and Kcat 0.087 mM and 37.64 S-1 respectively. MG biodegradation by CotA-laccase in clam and tilapia pond wastewaters and cytotoxic effect of biodegraded products in grouper fin-1 cells were determined. MG degradation by CotA-laccase was equally efficient, exhibiting upto 90-94% decolorization at freshwater and saline conditions and treated solution was non-toxic to GF-1 cells. Thus, recombinant-CotA-laccase could be an environmentally-friendly enzyme for aquaculture to remove MG, thereby effective to reduce its accumulation in aquatic organisms and ensuring safe aquaculture products.

Abstract
Quinazolinones represent an important scaffold in medicinal chemistry with diverse biological activities. Here, two series of 2-substituted quinazolin-4(3H)-ones were synthesized and evaluated for their antioxidant properties using three different methods, namely DPPH, ABTS and TEACCUPRAC, to obtain key information about the structure-antioxidant activity relationships of a diverse set of substituents at position 2 of the main quinazolinone scaffold. Regarding the antioxidant activity, ABTS and TEACCUPRAC assays were more sensitive and gave more reliable results than the DPPH assay. To obtain antioxidant activity of 2-phenylquinazolin-4(3H)-one, the presence of at least one hydroxyl group in addition to the methoxy substituent or the second hydroxyl on the phenyl ring in the ortho or para positions is required. An additional ethylene linker between quinazolinone ring and phenolic substituent, present in the second series (compounds 25a and 25b), leads to increased antioxidant activity. Furthermore, in addition to antioxidant activity, the derivatives with two hydroxyl groups in the ortho position on the phenyl ring exhibited metal-chelating properties. Our study represents a successful use of three different antioxidant activity evaluation methods to define 2-(2,3-dihydroxyphenyl)quinazolin-4(3H)-one 21e as a potent antioxidant with promising metal-chelating properties.

Abstract
In the field of food preservation, encapsulated Essential Oils (EOs) could be the best non-toxic and eco-friendly tool for food preservative applications substituting the chemicals ones that have several disadvantages for the environment and health. Thirteen commercial EOs from plants, fruits, and vegetables were characterized by GC-MS. The antioxidant activity was measured by DPPH and ABTS techniques. Antimicrobial activity was assessed by agar well-diffusion method and the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) by agar dilution method against six bacteria, Candida albicans, and Botrytis cinerea. All the EOs tested have demonstrated antioxidant activity in the range of IC50 0.01-105.32 mg/mL. Between them, cinnamon EOs were the best, followed by oregano and thyme EOs. Fennel EO showed the lowest radical scavenging. MIC values ranged from 0.14 to 9 mg/mL. C. cassia, thyme, and oregano EOs were the most effective against the bacterial species tested, and the yeast C. albicans. On the contrary, citric fruit EOs showed low or no inhibition against most bacterial strains. The percentages of inhibition of mycelia growth of B. cinerea ranged from 3.4 to 98.5%. Thyme, oregano, mint, and fennel EOs showed the highest inhibition.

Abstract
The phenolic compound catechol has found various applications in the industry but is often discharged untreated in industrial effluents. Catechol is highly toxic and adversely affects the environment. This has increased extensive investigation into elucidating the effects of various synthetic elements or different biocatalysts on catechol, thereby leading the way to its bioremediation. Hence, an electrochemical-based study on catechol in the presence of the enzyme laccase could provide a basic understanding of the unique characteristics exhibited by catechol, thus facilitating a distinct perspective to its subsequent treatment and removal. The present study focuses on the electrochemical characterization of catechol based on the oxidation of laccase and the redox mediator 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS). Catechol exhibited distinct electrochemical behavior across various concentrations. The unique electroactive nature of ABTS assisted in the polymerization of catechol which was found to be concentration-dependent. Laccase produced a higher oxidation-reduction rate, thereby producing a much more stable condition for the polymerization of catechol. However, with the laccase-mediator system (LMS), the catechol polymerization rate was distinctly higher and more gradual with the enzyme utilizing the electroactive species produced by ABTS to increase the electron transfer and producing a combinatorial impact on the phenolic compound. This study could rightly serve as the building block in developing future technologies like wastewater treatment and biosensors for catechol bioremediation.

Abstract
Lycium schweinfurthii is a Mediterranean wild shrub rich in plant secondary metabolites. In vitro propagation of this plant may support the production of valuable dietary supplements for humanity, introduction of it to the world market, and opportunities for further studies. The presented study aimed to introduce an efficient and reproducible protocol for in vitro micropropagation of L. schweinfurthii and assess the genetic stability of micropropagated plants (MiPs) as well as to estimate phenolic, flavonoid, ferulic acid contents, and the antioxidant activity in leaves of micropropagated plants. Two DNA-based techniques, random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and inter-simple sequence repeats (ISSR), and one biochemical technique, sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE), were used to assess the genetic stability in MiPs. Spectrophotometric analysis was performed to estimate total phenolic and flavonoid contents and antioxidant activity of MiPs leaves, while ferulic acid content was estimated using high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC). Sufficient shoot proliferation was achieved at MS (Murashige and Skoog) medium supplemented with 0.4 mg L-1 kinetin and rooted successfully on half-strength MS medium fortified with 0.4 mg L-1 Indole-3-butyric acid (IBA). The Jaccard's similarity coefficients detected in MiPs reached 52%, 55%, and 82% in the RAPD, ISSR, and SDS-PAGE analyses, respectively. In the dried leaves of MiPs, the phenolic, flavonoid, and ferulic acid contents of 11.53 mg gallic acid equivalent, 12.99 mg catechin equivalent, and 45.52 mg were estimated per gram, respectively. However, an IC50 of 0.43, and 1.99 mg mL-1 of MiP dried leaves' methanolic extract was required to scavenge half of the DPPH, and ABTS free radicals, respectively. The study presented a successful protocol for in vitro propagation of a valued promising plant source of phenolic compounds.

Abstract
In the present study, the extracted volatiles from dried leaf and fruit of Piper longum were analysed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and each detected 53 constituents having 92.41% and 96.31% of the total volatiles respectively. E-nerolidol (19.56%), β-pinene (17.07%) and α-pinene (6.8%) were main constituents in leaf volatiles whereas the fruit volatiles dominated by germacrene-D (23.38%), 8-heptadecene (8.95%) and β-caryophyllene (8.20%). Antioxidant potential of the volatiles were assessed by DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) and ABTS (2,2'-azino-bis-3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) assays. The fruit volatiles revealed higher radical scavenging activities as compared to leaf. The samples were also evaluated against multidrug resistant (MDR) isolates including one non MDR fungal strain. The fruit volatiles showed a very strong activity against Acinetobacter baumannii than others whereas leaf volatiles possessed strong activity against Klebsiella pneumoniae as compared to other strains. Thus, the dried fruits can be exploited for drug development towards therapeutic purpose.

Abstract
Citrus secondary metabolites, such as terpene compounds, are very important for human health due to their bioactivity including anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, and antioxidant effects. In this work, for the first time, the volatile chemical composition of peels and juices from four different Citrus species (C. junos, Citrus × aurantium, C. aurantium 'Bizzarria' and C. medica 'Florentina', commonly known as Yuzu jeune, Oni Yuzu, Bizzarria orange and Florence cedar, respectively) was investigated by Solid-Phase Microextraction-Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (SPME-GC/MS) technique and the antiradical activity was also examined. The results showed that limonene and γ-terpinene were the main volatile substances detected both in the juices and in the peels, followed by other minority compounds responsible for the phyto-complex of the unique aromas which characterize each individual analyzed Citrus species. Principal component analysis (PCA), performed on volatile compounds, showed both some correlation as well as a clear separation between the juice and the peel of each species. Among them, Oni Yuzu juice was found to be the richest in total polyphenols and flavonoids while its capacity to scavenge ABTS•+ and DPPH• radicals was similar to that of Yuzu Jeune and Bizzarria orange.

Abstract
The paracetamol-induced injuries of liver and kidneys in animals are mostly used to screen out the hepato and nephroprotective effect of extract or other therapeutic agents. In the present study total phenolic and flavonoid contents, in vitro antioxidant, and in vivo hepato/nephroprotective (on paracetamol-induced intoxication in experimental rabbits) potentials of the Daphne mucronata leaves methanolic extract were determined. For the identification of possible phytochemicals, HPLC (high performance liquid chromatography) analysis was carried out and a total of eight phenolic compounds; malic acid, gallic acid, chlorogenic acid, epigallocatechin gallate, quercetin, morin, ellagic acid, and rutin were identified. D. mucronata extract at doses of 250 and 500 mg/kg body weight were given for eight days to paracetamol intoxicated rabbits and the observed results were compared with standard Silymarin. The level of liver enzymes like aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, serum triglyceride, serum cholesterol, serum bilirubin, and kidneys biomarkers like serum urea, uric acid, and creatinine, as well as lipid peroxidation malondialdehyde contents were increased while the antioxidant enzymes like reduced glutathione and total antioxidant capacity were decreased. Furthermore, histopathological analysis of the liver and kidney tissues of control and treated groups also confirmed the hepatoprotective and nephroprotective effect of the D. mucronata which was most probably due to its high antioxidant phenolic and flavonoid phytoconstituents.

Abstract
Spondias purpurea L. plum is a source of antioxidant compounds. Nevertheless, once they are consumed and go through the digestive system, these compounds may undergo changes that modify their bioaccessibility. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of in vitro gastrointestinal digestion on the total content of carotenoids (TCC), ascorbic acid (AA), phenolic compounds (TPC), flavonoids (TFC), anthocyanins (TAC), and antioxidant capacity (ABTS, DPPH) of 12 plum Spondias purpurea L. ecotypes. The plum samples were subjected to the InfoGest in vitro digestion model. TCC, AA, TPC, TFC, TAC, ABTS, and DPPH were significantly different (p ≤ 0.05) in each in vitro digestion stage. The gastric stage released the highest content of AA (64.04–78.66%) and TAC (128.45–280.50%), whereas the intestinal stage released the highest content of TCC (11.31–34.20%), TPC (68.61–95.36%), and TFC (72.76–95.57%). Carotenoids were not identified in the gastric stage whilst anthocyanins were lost at the end of the intestinal digestion. At the gastric stage, AA presented a positive and high correlation with ABTS (r: 0.83) and DPPH (r: 0.84), while, in the intestinal stage, TPC and TFC presented positive and high correlation with ABTS (r ≥ 0.8) and DPPH (r ≥ 0.8), respectively.

Abstract
In recent years, the increase in consumer interest towards simpler and authentic lifestyles has led to an explosive growth in the production and business of typical agri-food products and, among these, of wines and its derived beverages. With the aim of promoting a typical Italian beverage, the so-called “Vino di visciole” or “Visner”, listed in the national table of traditional agri-food products, the antioxidant and colour properties of fifteen samples from different provinces of the Marche region and obtained with different recipes were analysed. The “in vitro” total antioxidant activity (TAA) determined using ABTS assays, total phenolic content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC), total anthocyanins content (TAC), and colour (Somers assay) were measured. In addition, a spectroscopic FT-IR and UV-Vis analysis was carried out to analyse samples with multivariate techniques. The results showed that the production area, the recipe, and the type of cherries used to make the alcoholic beverage do not influence the antioxidant properties and the phytochemical contents of the samples. The multivariate treatment of the spectroscopic features (mainly UV-Vis) rather allowed the differentiation of samples with high antioxidant activity using easy and low-cost instrumental techniques that require little time and can be employed in routine analysis.

Abstract
The high phenolic compound content of grapes makes them an important source of natural antioxidants, among other beneficial health properties. Vineyard irrigation might affect berry composition and quality. Regulated deficit irrigation (RDI) is a widely used strategy to reduce the possible negative impact of irrigation on grapes, improving grape composition and resulting in water savings. Monastrell grapevines (Vitis vinifera L.) grown in eastern Spain were subjected to two water regime strategies: rainfed (non-irrigation) and RDI. The content of anthocyanins, flavonols, flavanols, hydroxybenzoic and hydroxycinnamic acids, and stilbenes was determined by HPLC and was related with total phenolic content and three antioxidant activity methods (ABTS, DPPH, and ORAC). The study aimed to evaluate and compare the phenolic composition and antioxidant potential of Monastrell grapes. The rainfed regime concentrated grapes in terms of phenolic compounds. Thus, total content of anthocyanins, flavonols, flavanols, hydroxybenzoic acids, and total phenols were higher in the rainfed grapes than in the RDI ones. Besides, the rainfed grapes doubled their antioxidant potential with respect to the RDI grapes with the ORAC method. Total phenolic content and antioxidant activity by ORAC assay positively correlated with most of the total phenolic compounds analyzed. This study demonstrates how field practices can modulate final grape composition in relation to their antioxidant activity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sea buckthorn (Hippophae) is in the focus of interest mainly for its positive effects on health of both human and animal organisms. Due to the similarities in vegetative morphology, Hippophae species are often misidentified. Therefore, current study was focused on ITS based sequence characterization of sea buckthorn species and comparative biochemical evaluation for its antioxidant properties. METHODS AND RESULTS DNA was extracted from leaf samples. Primer pairs K-Lab-SeaBukRhm-ITS1F1- K-Lab-SeaBukRhm-ITS1R1 and K-LabSeaBukTib- ITSF1- K-LabSeaBukTib-ITSR1 were used for PCR amplification. The purified PCR products were outsourced for sequencing. Phylogenetic tree was constructed based on neighbor-joining (NJ) method. Moreover, comparison of antioxidant potential of leaves of two sea buckthorn species (Hippophae rhamnoides and Hippophae tibetana) collected from different regions of Ladakh viz., Stakna, Nubra, DRDO Leh and Zanskar was determined by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), 2,2-azino-bis (3- ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) diammonium salt (ABTS), and Total antioxidant capacity (TAC) by phosphomolybdenum assays. The present investigation led to the differentiation of two sea buckthorn species viz., H. rhamnoides and H. tibetana based on Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) region. Moreover, significant variation was observed in antioxidant potential of leaf extracts collected from different regions. CONCLUSIONS Primary ITS sequence analysis was found to be powerful tool for identification and genetic diversity studies in sea buckthorn. Leaves of sea buckthorn have pronounced antioxidant properties and can be used in food, neutraceuticals and pharmaceutical industries etc. The current study will pave the way to discover small bioactive molecules responsible for antioxidant and anticancer properties in sea buckthorn.

Abstract
The preparation of bioactive polymeric molecules requires the attention of scientists as it has a potential function in biomedical applications. In the current study, functional substitution of alginate with a benzoyl group was prepared via coupling its hydroxyl group with benzoyl chloride. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy indicated the characteristic peaks of aromatic C=C in alginate derivative at 1431 cm−1. HNMR analysis demonstrated the aromatic protons at 7.5 ppm assigned to benzoyl groups attached to alginate hydroxyl groups. Wetting analysis showed a decrease in hydrophilicity in the new alginate derivative. Differential scanning calorimetry and thermal gravimetric analysis showed that the designed aromatic alginate derivative demonstrated higher thermo-stability than alginates. The aromatic alginate derivative displayed high anti-inflammatory properties compared to alginate. Finally, the in vitro antioxidant evaluation of the aromatic alginate derivative showed a significant increase in free radical scavenging activity compared to neat alginate against DPPH (2,2-diphenyll-picrylhydrazyl) and ABTS free radicals. The obtained results proposed that the new alginate derivative could be employed for gene and drug delivery applications.

Abstract
Grateloupia turuturu Yamada, 1941, is a red seaweed widely used for food in Japan and Korea which was recorded on the Atlantic Coast of Europe about twenty years ago. This seaweed presents eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and other polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) in its lipid fraction, a feature that sparked the interest on its potential applications. In seaweeds, PUFAs are mostly esterified to polar lipids, emerging as healthy phytochemicals. However, to date, these biomolecules are still unknown for G. turuturu. The present work aimed to identify the polar lipid profile of G. turuturu, using modern lipidomics approaches based on high performance liquid chromatography coupled to high resolution mass spectrometry (LC-MS) and gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The health benefits of polar lipids were identified by health lipid indices and the assessment of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. The polar lipids profile identified from G. turuturu included 205 lipid species distributed over glycolipids, phospholipids, betaine lipids and phosphosphingolipids, which featured a high number of lipid species with EPA and PUFAs. The nutritional value of G. turuturu has been shown by its protein content, fatty acyl composition and health lipid indices, thus confirming G. turuturu as an alternative source of protein and lipids. Some of the lipid species assigned were associated to biological activity, as polar lipid extracts showed antioxidant activity evidenced by free radical scavenging potential for the 2,2'-azino-bis-3-ethyl benzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS●+) radical (IC50 ca. 130.4 μg mL-1) and for the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH●) radical (IC25 ca. 129.1 μg mL-1) and anti-inflammatory activity by inhibition of the COX-2 enzyme (IC50 ca. 33 µg mL-1). Both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities were detected using a low concentration of extracts. This integrative approach contributes to increase the knowledge of G. turuturu as a species capable of providing nutrients and bioactive molecules with potential applications in the nutraceutical, pharmaceutical and cosmeceutical industries.

In recent years, seaweeds drew the intense attention of the researchers owing their biological properties with their multi assorted applications to the humans. Red seaweeds are well-known for their biological activities due to enrichment of phenolic residues. The present investigation deals with the portrayal of biological behavior of red algae Gracilaria edulis and Hypnea valentiae. Polyphenol was extracted using methanol in a soxhlet extractor for 6 h. The crude polyphenol compound was partially purified in DEAE cellulose52 column. The total phenolic content present in the polyphenol compound was G. edulis (75.49 ± 0.12 %) and H. valentiae (70.08 ± 0.34 %). The phytochemicals present in the two seaweeds were flavonoids, saponins, tannins, phenolics, alkaloids and steroids. The antimicrobial activity of polyphenol compounds was assessed against seven human pathogens, five plant pathogens and three fungal pathogens. The free radical scavenging activity of polyphenol compound was assayed such as total antioxidant capacity, reducing power, hydrogen peroxide scavenging activity, DPPH, ABTS, hydroxyl-scavenging assay, superoxide anion radical scavenging and nitric oxide. Polyphenol compound was analyzed by FT-IR and GC–MS.

Abstract
Cancer initiation and development are closely related to oxidative stress and chronic inflammation. The aim of this study was to evaluate apple extracts and individual tritepenes antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and cytotoxic activities. Dry extracts of apple were analyzed by HPLC-PDA. A hyaluronidase inhibition assay was selected to determine the anti-inflammatory effect. Cytotoxic activities against human colon adenocarcinoma cell line (HT-29) and human glioblastoma cell line (U-87) were determined using MTT, cell colony formation, and spheroid growth assays. Radical scavenging and reducing activities were evaluated using DPPH, ABTS, FRAP, and CUPRAC assays, respectively. The apple extracts inhibited hyaluronidase from 26.38 ± 4.4% to 35.05 ± 3.8%. The AAW extract possessed the strongest cytotoxic activity (EC50 varied from 113.3 ± 11.11 µg/mL to 119.7 ± 4.0 µg/mL). The AEW extract had four and five times stronger antiradical activity when determined by ABTS and DPPH, and two and eight times stronger reducing activity when evaluated by CUPRAC and FRAP, respectively. Understanding the mechanisms of apple extracts and individual triterpenes as hyaluronidase inhibitors and antioxidants related in cancer development may be a benefit to future study in vivo, as well as cancer prognosis or the development of new, innovative food supplements, which could be used for chronic disease prevention.

Abstract
Aim: Characterization of the ability of Fusobacterium nucleatum DSM 15643 and DSM 20482 strains in the presence of Cu2+ and H2O2 to reactive oxygen species generation. Method: Spectrophotometric ABTS (2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) method was used. Results: Determination of: MIC for Cu2+, H2O2 and ABTS; survivability of F. nucleatum under atmospheric oxygen exposure; the level and rate constants of free radicals production by the bacteria. Conclusion: F. nucleatum in the presence of Cu2+ and H2O2 is able to generate free radicals. Reactive oxygen species are produced mainly outside the bacterial cell, which suggests that outer membrane proteins may be involved in oxidative process.

Abstract
At present, a wide variety of analytical methods is available to measure antioxidant capacity. However, this great diversity is not reflected in the analysis of meat and meat products, as there are a limited number of studies on determining this parameter in this complex food matrix. Despite this, and due to the interest in antioxidants that prevent oxidation reactions, the identification of antioxidants in meat and meat products is of special importance to the meat industry. For this reason, this review compiled the main antioxidant capacity assays employed in meat and meat products, to date, describing their foundations, and showing both their advantages and limitations. This review also looked at the different applications of antioxidant properties in meat and meat products. In this sense, the suitability of using these methodologies has been demonstrated in different investigations related to these foods.

Abstract
Oxidative stress has been reported as a cause of many diseases like Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. Oxidative stress can also lead to cancer formation by promoting tumor development and progression. Antioxidants derived from Lamiaceae plants play an important role in natural medicine, pharmacology, cosmetology, and aromatherapy. Herein, we examine the antioxidative capacity of essential oils from seven aromatic Lamiaceae plants against the synthetic radicals DPPH and ABTS. Among the essential oils analyzed, the most robust scavenging capacities were found in mixtures of volatile compounds from thyme and savory. The scavenging activity of tested EOs against the ABTS radical was clearly higher than activity towards DPPH. Analysis of essential oils with weaker antioxidant activity has shown that volatile compounds from marjoram, sage, and hyssop were more active than EOs from lavender and mint. It can be suggested that the potent antioxidant capacity of thyme (Thymus vulgaris) and savory (Satyreja hortensis) are related to a high level of phenolic constituents, such as thymol and carvacrol. On the other hand, the elevated antioxidative power of marjoram, sage, and hyssop essential oils may also be due to their terpinene, o-cymene, terpinolene, and terpinen-4-ol constituents. Although non-phenolic components are less active than thymol or carvacrol, they may affect antioxidant capacity synergistically.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Clerodendrum paniculatum has ethnomedicinal importance in treatment of disorders like wound, typhoid, jaundice, malaria and anemia. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the antioxidant and hepatoprotective activity of Clerodendrum paniculatum leaves against carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) induced rat model and identification of its bioactive constituents by Gas Chromatography Mass Spectroscopy (GC MS). METHODS Successive solvent extraction was carried out. Total phenolic, flavonoid content and antioxidant activity by 2,2- diphenyl-1-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH), nitric oxide and 2-Azino-bis [3-ethyl benzothiazoline- 6-sufonic acid] (ABTS method) were done. Ethyl acetate extract was selected for hepatoprotective study in carbon tetrachloride intoxicated model followed by the measurement of liver function marker enzymes such as SGOT (Serum Glutamate Oxaloacetate Transaminase), SGPT (Serum Glutamate Pyruvate Transaminase), and ALP (Alkaline Phosphatase). Biochemical parameters like bilirubin and protein were measured. Histopathologic liver sections were carried out. Bioactive constituents were evaluated by GC MS. RESULTS By DPPH and ABTS method, ethyl acetate extract showed IC50 as 70.14±0.92 μg/ml,2958.24±2.460 μg/ml, respectively. The alcoholic extract showed maximum IC50 (197.22 ±7.16 μg/ml) by Nitric oxide radical scavenging method. Hepatoprotective study reveals that intoxicated animal groups have elevated levels of enzymes and bilirubin and suppress the production of protein. The extract pre-treatment showed a significant decrease in enzymes and increased production of total protein in a dose-dependent manner. Histopathologic studies also support the hepatoprotective activity. GC MS analysis revealed the presence of seven major bioactive constituents with ethyl palmitate as the major one. CONCLUSION The results support the proof for the hepatoprotective potential of the CPLE extract with potent antioxidant activity and enhanced liver enzyme level. The observed activity could be due to the presence of bioactive compounds as identified by GC MS analysis.

Abstract
Methanol extract of the flowering aerial parts of Hypericum sinaicum Boiss. (ME) growing in Saint Catherine Protectorate (SKP), Egypt was analysed for its phenolic compounds profiling using HPLC and colorimetric methods. The total phenol content of ME was 158.60 ± 0.74 (μg GAE/mg D.E.), while the total flavonoid content was 70.91 ± 0.01 (μg QE/mg D.E.). HPLC analysis revealed that the highest flavonoid was naringenin (50.31 mg/g), while the highest phenolic acid was syringic acid (0.37 mg/g). The scavenging activity of ME was evaluated using DPPH assay with SC50 22.9 μg/ml and ABTS with SC50 13.10 μg/ml. ME produced dose - dependent and significant inhibition of edema at 4 hour of dose 200 mg/kg (78.55%) and 100 mg/kg (72.89%) to that of standard drug Indomethacin (86.94%). The current study interprets the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant potency of H. sinaicum.

Abstract
The molecular structures of 2,2-azino-bis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS), were calculated by using time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) model with M062X method with 6-311G (d, p) basis set. In this work, the ABTS were theoretically investigated from the geometric structure, the energy levels of the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) and the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO), the energy level gap ΔEHOMO-LUMO of the molecular ground state, excited stated properties and the electronic absorption spectra of different oxidation states. We studied the energy levels of LUMO and HOMO of ABTS in different oxidation states. Frontier molecular orbital analysis can provide insight into the nature of excited states. ABTS was synthesized from N-ethylamine by total synthesis. Then, we measured the UV-Vis spectra of ABTS before and after being oxidized by K2S2O8. The calculated electronic structures and photochemical properties of different oxidation state of ABTS were in accordance with the experimental result. This work demonstrates the relationship between the electronic structures and photochemistry of different oxidation states ABTS hence paves the way for the rationally synthesis and deepen understanding of the photophysical properties of ABTS materials.
