Abstract
Although phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylases (PEPCs) are reported to be involved in fatty acid accumulation, nitrogen assimilation, and salt and drought stresses, knowledge regarding PEPC gene functions is still limited, particularly in peanuts (Arachis hypogaea L.). In this study, the antisense expression of the peanut PEPC isoform 1 (AhPEPC1) gene increased the lipid content by 5.7%–10.3%. This indicated that AhPEPC1 might be related to plant lipid accumulation. The transgenic plants underwent more root elongation than the wild-type under salinity stress. Additionally, the specific down regulation of the AhPEPC1 gene improved the salt tolerance in peanuts. This is the first report on the role of PEPC in lipid accumulation and salt tolerance in peanuts.

Abstract
Cold-inducible RNA binding protein (CIRP) is over-expressed during cold and many other stresses, and could regulate the adaptation to hypothermia. In the present investigation, the objective was to determine the expression of CIRP in adult yak heart, liver, spleen, lung, kidney, brain, ovary, testis and skin by relative quantitative real time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), Western blot and immunohistochemistry from mRNA and protein levels. The CIRP open reading frame encoding was cloned from the domestic yak brain. Results of RT-PCR and Western blot showed the high expression level of CIRP in the heart, kidney, brain, testis and skin, and the lower expression level of CIRP in the lung. Immunohistochemical staining showed CIRP was expressed in the nucleus of neuronal cells, spermatogonia, primary spermatocytes and epidermal cells, and in the cytoplasm of the residual tissues. These observations may provide new data to understand and further study the important role of CIRP protein in the plateau adaptation of the domestic yak on long-term evolution.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate Parkinson's disease (PD) using a murine model of PD. Specifically, we aimed to explore the mechanism by which puerarin prevents inflammation and apoptosis in neurocytes. Eighty healthy male C57/BL6 mice were randomly selected and divided into four groups (N = 20 each): control group; PD group; PD+puerarin group; and puerarin group. At the end of the treatment period, the animals' brains were removed after perfusion and decollation. The protein expression levels of tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) in the murine brains were assessed by immunohistochemistry and the protein expression levels of TH, glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), cleaved Caspase-3, and Bax in the substantia nigra and corpus striatum of the animals were assessed by western blotting. The spontaneous activity of the PD mice was found to be significantly higher after puerarin treatment and the distance traveled by mice in an open field assessment was 1700 cm further in puerarin-treated PD mice than in PD mice. Immunohistochemistry and western blotting analyses indicated that the expression of TH was significantly higher (2.63-fold) in puerarin-treated PD mice than in untreated PD mice and that the expression of GFAP in PD mice was significantly reduced (~45%) by puerarin treatment. These findings lead us to conclude that puerarin significantly alleviates 1-methyl-4-phenyl- 1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine-induced injury in dopaminergic neurons. Puerarin mediates anti-apoptotic and anti-inflammatory activities and plays a neuroprotective role.

Abstract
AIM To compare the effects of exposure parameters on image quality and radiation dose for craniocervical computed tomography angiography (CTA) using adaptive iterative dose reduction in three dimensions (AIDR 3D) and filtered back projection (FBP) algorithms. MATERIALS AND METHODS One hundred and eighty patients were divided into three groups; group A (120 kV, 300 mA, FBP), group B (100 kV, automatic mA, AIDR 3D) and group C (80kV, automatic mA, AIDR 3D). Image quality and radiation dose were evaluated for each group. RESULTS For both cervical and intracranial vessels, CT attenuation, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) were higher in the AIDR 3D groups. The difference in mean vascular noise was also statistically significant (p<0.001), with group B having the lowest value at 16.5±3.2 HU and group C having the highest at 19.1±2.9 HU. FBP reconstruction resulted in lower image-quality scores for the common carotid artery. Parenchymal image-quality scores also varied significantly different between groups with group C partially failing to meet the minimum standards for diagnostic use. For the middle cerebral artery, image-quality scores were significantly better in group A, although images from groups B and C also satisfied clinical diagnostic requirements. The image quality of the internal carotid artery was the best in group B. Image-quality scores between groups were not significantly different for the carotid sinus. Radiation doses in the groups using AIDR 3D were >70% lower than in the FBP group. CONCLUSION AIDR 3D (100 kV, automatic modulation) provides optimal image quality of vascular and parenchymal tissues at significantly lower radiation doses (mSV) than FBP in craniocervical CTA. For cases in which highly accurate parenchymal assessment is not required, the tube voltage can be lowered to 80 kV to further decrease radiation dose.

Abstract
Obstructive sleep apnea is associated with inflammation and oxidative stress in lung tissues and can lead to metabolic abnormalities. We investigated the effects of angiotensin1-7 [Ang-(1-7)] on lung injury in rats induced by chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH). We randomly assigned 32 male Sprague-Dawley rats (180-200 g) to normoxia control (NC), CIH-untreated (uCIH), Ang-(1-7)-treated normoxia control (N-A), and Ang-(1-7)-treated CIH (CIH-A) groups. Oxidative stress biomarkers were measured in lung tissues, and expression of NADPH oxidase 4 (Nox4) and Nox subunits (p22phox, and p47phox) was determined by Western blot and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. Pulmonary pathological changes were more evident in the uCIH group than in the other groups. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays and immunohistochemical staining showed that inflammatory factor concentrations in serum and lung tissues in the uCIH group were significantly higher than those in the NC and N-A groups. Expression of inflammatory factors was significantly higher in the CIH-A group than in the NC and N-A groups, but was lower than in the uCIH group (P<0.01). Oxidative stress was markedly higher in the uCIH group than in the NC and N-A groups. Expression of Nox4 and its subunits was also increased in the uCIH group. These changes were attenuated upon Ang-(1-7) treatment. In summary, treatment with Ang-(1-7) reversed signs of CIH-induced lung injury via inhibition of inflammation and oxidative stress.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To assess the efficacy, safety and impact on β-cell function of DPP-4 inhibitors plus metformin in T2DM patients and their difference between Asians and Caucasians. METHODS We conducted a literature search (from 1 January 2000 to 14 April 2015) for RCTs of DPP-4 inhibitors plus metformin combination therapy in T2DM. RESULTS A total of 27 RCTs were included. Compared with metformin, DPP-4 inhibitor plus metformin therapy was associated with higher reduction in HbA1c [-0.61 %, -0.69 to -0.52], FPG [-1.10 mmol/l, -1.29 to -0.92], TC [-0.11 mmol/l, -0.20 to -0.02], TG [-0.21 mmol/l, -0.33 to -0.10], HOMA-IR [-0.19, -0.36 to -0.02], gastrointestinal adverse events [OR 0.86, 0.77-0.97] and higher increment in HOMA-β [10.21, 7.73-12.69]. Comparison of HbA1c, FPG, body weight and HOMA-IR changes between Asian and Caucasian patients did not show a significant between-group difference of -0.05 % (-0.30, 0.20; P = 0.69), 0.17 mmol/l (-0.52, 0.85; P = 0.62), -0.15 kg (-0.64, 0.35; P = 0.53) and 0.27 (-0.98, 1.53; P = 0.64) compared with metformin. Comparisons of HOMA-β between Asian and Caucasian patients showed a significant between-group difference of -7.68 (-14.95, -0.42; P = 0.04). CONCLUSION DPP-4 inhibitors and metformin therapy was effective and safe for T2DM patients. The glucose-lowering efficacy of DPP-4 inhibitors was same in Asian and Caucasian patients, although the effect on HOMA-β was inferior in Asian patients. The effect of DPP-4 inhibitors on HOMA-IR and body weight in Asian patients was comparable with that observed in Caucasian patients.

Abstract
To assess the potential effects of Cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen 4 (CTLA4) gene polymorphisms on susceptibility to gastric cardia adenocarcinoma (GCA), we genotyped four polymorphisms (rs733618 A>G, rs16840252 C>T, rs231775 G>A and rs3087243 G>A) in CTLA4 and calculated odds ratios (ORs) with the corresponding 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) for the genotype and allele distributions between GCA cases and controls. The CTLA4 genotypes were determined by the polymerase chain reaction-ligase detection reaction (PCR-LDR) analysis in 330 GCA patients and 608 unrelated cancer-free controls. In this case-control study, there was no significant difference in the genotype and allele distributions of four CTLA4 polymorphisms between GCA patients and controls. However, haplotype association analysis indicated that compared with CTLA4 Grs733618 Crs16840252 Grs231775 Crs3087243 , CTLA4 Grs733618 Crs16840252 Ars231775 Grs3087243 and Ars733618 Crs16840252 Grs231775 Ars3087243 haplotypes conferred increased risks of GCA (OR = 6.46, 95% CI = 1.33-31.28; P = 0.012; both); however, CTLA4 Ars733618 Crs16840252 Ars231775 Grs3087243 and Ars733618 Trs16840252 Grs231775 Grs3087243 haplotypes conferred decreased risks of GCA (P = 0.001 and P = 0.011, respectively). These results highlight that the rare CTLA4 haplotypes may affect the development of GCA in the Chinese population.

Abstract
Sarcopenia is a multi-faceted geriatric syndrome that is prevalent in the older population. It is an independent risk factor for a variety of devastating health outcomes that threaten the independence of older people. Quality of life is also very important to older people. The objective of this systematic review therefore was to determine the relationship between the biomarkers of sarcopenia (or sarcopenia) and health related quality of life in older people. Systematic searches were done using the electronic databases from MEDLINE and EMBASE. Search terms included sarcopenia, biomarkers of sarcopenia (e.g. muscle mass, grip strength, muscle performance), and health related quality of life. A total of 20 studies were finally included in this review. Only four studies were deemed of good quality. Sarcopenia was associated with poor health related quality of life in both genders from the one cross sectional study defining sarcopenia as per consensus definition. One high quality longitudinal study demonstrated that better physical performance and muscle strength was associated with a slower rate of decline in health related quality of life over six years. Muscle performance and strength were associated with health related quality of life but muscle mass was not in cross-sectional studies. Good quality and longitudinal studies where sarcopenia is defined as per consensus guidelines are required if the impact of the disease on quality of life is to be clarified.

Abstract
Pregnancy-associated plasma protein-A 2 (PAPPA2) is a placental-enriched gene that is important for normal human placentation and defects in the gene can cause complications in pregnancy. Yet the exact expression pattern and role of PAPPA2 in the human fetomaternal interface are not clear. In this study, in situ hybridization (ISH) and immunohistochemistry (IHC) were employed to examine the spatial and temporal expression of PAPPA2 in the human fetomaternal interface. IHC results exhibited wide expression of PAPPA2 in the fetomaternal interface, with placental syncytiatrophoblast (STB) and extravillous trophoblast (EVT) showing strong expression and the cytotrophoblast (CTB) showing weak expression of PAPPA2. These results were confirmed by ISH. Quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and western blot showed the elevation of PAPPA2 in first trimester EVT differentiation and term CTB spontaneous syncytialization. PAPPA2-siRNA transfection significantly depressed the invasion and migration ability of a trophoblast cell line (HTR8/SVneo) in a transwell migration and Matrigel invasion model compared to a negative control siRNA (P < 0.05), also revealing that matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP9) secretion is downregulated. This was confirmed using a human first trimester placental villi explant culture model. Our results reveal the spatial and temporal expression of PAPPA2 in the human fetomaternal interface and show the positive regulatory role of PAPPA2 in human trophoblast invasion and migration through the secretion of MMP9.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Depression and anxiety after stroke occur frequently and have been suggested to have negative influence on functional outcomes. However, the effect of emotional symptoms on stroke recurrence is uncertain. The aim of this study was to define the effect of emotional symptoms on recurrent cerebrovascular events in patients with ischemic stroke. MATERIALS AND METHODS This was a hospital-based cohort study including patients with ischemic stroke who participated in a Community Stroke Care Program that provided secondary stroke prevention strategies during 6 months transition period after discharge. We examined the association between depression and anxiety and the risk of recurrent cerebrovascular events using logistic regression model. Depression and anxiety were defined as a score of 7 or more in Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale at 2 weeks after discharge. Recurrent cerebrovascular events comprised any recurrent stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA) occurring during 6 months after discharge. RESULTS Among 182 patients, 29 (15.9%) were depressed and 41 (22.5%) had anxiety symptoms. During the follow-up period, 9 patients experienced recurrent cerebrovascular events (5 of stroke and 4 of TIA). Depression was associated with recurrent cerebrovascular events at 6 months after adjustment for age, sex, and stroke severity (OR 5.22, 95% CI 1.08-25.12; P = 0.04), whereas anxiety was not (OR 0.98, 95% CI 0.2-4.92; P = 0.982). CONCLUSIONS Depression occurring early after stroke was associated with the increased risk of recurrent cerebrovascular events in ischemic stroke survivors. Care plan to detect and manage depression should be implemented to prevent recurrent stroke.

Abstract
UNLABELLED As a paramyxovirus, Newcastle disease virus (NDV) has the ability to edit its P (phosphoprotein) gene to synthesize three kinds of viral protein (P, V and W). It is technically very difficult to differentiate P, V and W mRNAs, and little was known about NDV regulation of RNA-editing frequency. To investigate the rules of NDV RNA editing, the ratio of the P gene-derived transcripts (P, V and W) was determined by sequencing at different time points post-infection. The results showed unstable ratio of V and W mRNA at different time points, and the frequency of NDV editing was significantly increased at the early period of infection (P KEYWORDS Newcastle disease virus; phosphoprotein; RNA editing; G insertion.

Abstract
The objectives of this study were to investigate the interactions between Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae and porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) and to establish a model for studying the pathogenesis of and testing intervention strategies for the control of PCV2-associated porcine respiratory disease complex (PRDC). Sixty-seven pigs were randomly assigned to four groups. Group 1 ( n = 17) pigs served as controls, group 2 ( n = 17) pigs were inoculated with M. hyopneumoniae, group 3 ( n = 17) pigs were dual infected with M. hyopneumoniae and PCV2, and group 4 ( n = 16) pigs were inoculated with PCV2. Pigs were inoculated intratracheally with M. hyopneumoniae at 4 weeks of age followed by intranasal inoculation with PCV2 at 6 weeks of age. Dual-infected pigs had moderate dyspnea, lethargy, and reduced weight gain. The overall severity of macroscopic lung lesions, PCV2-associated microscopic lesions in lung and lymphoid tissues, and the amount of PCV2-antigen associated with these lesions were significantly ( P < 0.05) higher in dual-infected pigs compared with all other groups. Four of 17 (23.5%) dual-infected pigs had decreased growth rate and severe lymphoid depletion and granulomatous lymphadenitis associated with high amounts of PCV2-antigen consistent with postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS). PCV2-antigen in lung tissue was most often associated with M. hyopneumoniae-induced peribronchial lymphoid hyperplasia, suggesting that this is an important site for PCV2 replication in the lung. This study indicates that M. hyopneumoniae potentiates the severity of PCV2-associated lung and lymphoid lesions, increases the amount and prolongs the presence of PCV2-antigen, and increases the incidence of PMWS in pigs.

Abstract
Although anal intercourse carries great risk for HIV transmission, little research has focused on it among the general population, particularly pre- and early adolescents. This study describes the prevalence of anal and vaginal intercourse among Bahamian pre- and early adolescents and associations with other risk behaviours, family interactions and intrapersonal correlates. Data were from 1274 sixth-grade students aged 9–14 years who completed self-administered questionnaires at baseline of a larger school-based behavioural intervention study. Youth who reported having had anal intercourse engaged in significantly higher rates of several risk behaviours and were significantly more likely to engage in risk behaviours over the next six months, compared with youth with a history of vaginal intercourse only, who in turn were more likely than virgin adolescents. Youth indulging in anal intercourse also perceived significantly lower levels of parental monitoring. Multivariate analyses revealed that anal intercourse, vaginal intercourse, reduced parental monitoring, depression and perceived friend high-risk involvement were associated with both past involvement and future intention to engage in other risk behaviours. Anal intercourse poses a direct threat to the health of these children and is a flag for a constellation of other risks.

Abstract
The cancer cells can acquire migration and invasion capacities during the metastasis process through the developmental regulatory program epithelial–mesenchymal-transition (EMT), and through its reverse process mesenchymal–epithelial transition cancer cells can recolonize at distant metastatic sites. Among the multifaceted effects exerted by this program, reorganization of actin cytoskeleton is the key mechanical drive for the invasive properties gained by cancer cells. Collapsin response mediator protein-1 (CRMP1) is a cytosolic phosphoprotein and originally characterized as the mediator of semaphorin 3A signaling involved in axon differentiation during neural development. Here we report that CRMP1 can act as a suppressor of tumorigenicity and metastasis in prostate cancer cells. We demonstrated that CRMP1 exhibited a decreased expression pattern in high-grade prostate cancer tissues and many prostate cancer cell lines, and its downregulation in cancer cells was attributed to histone deacetylation and direct repression of its gene by the EMT regulator Snail. Functional analyses revealed that CRMP1 suppressed EMT in prostate cancer cells, as its knockdown could trigger EMT and enhance in vitro invasion capacity, whereas its overexpression could inhibit EMT and suppress both in vitro invasion and in vivo metastasis capacities of prostate cancer cells. Moreover, CRMP1 overexpression could significantly confer resistance to EMT induced by Snail or transforming growth factor-β1 in prostatic epithelial cells and prostate cancer cells. Finally, we demonstrated that CRMP1 could associate with actin and WAVE1, an activator of actin nucleation complex Arp2/3, and also its knockdown could stabilize F-actin and trigger the formation of stress fibers in prostate cancer cells. Together, our study shows that CRMP1 acts an EMT and metastasis suppressor in prostate cancer cells via its regulation of actin polymerization and also suggests that targeting the CRMP1-actin signaling in actin organization could be a potential strategy for management of prostate cancer metastasis.

Abstract
PURPOSE We aim to investigate the correlation of HER2 expression with liver metastasis and the impact of HER2 status and trastuzumab therapy on the prognosis of gastric cancer with liver metastasis (GCLM) patients. METHODS This prospective observational study was carried out in Shanghai Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University, from January 2012 to June 2015. HER2 status and baseline characteristics were collected from the patient record. GCLM patients were divided into three groups according to HER2 status and trastuzumab therapy. RESULTS A total of 290 patients were included, and94 patients were diagnosed with liver metastasis. The HER2 positivity was 37.2 % (35/94) in GCLM patients and 21 % (61/290) in the overall GC patients. Among 94 GCLM patients, 28 HER2-positive patients received trastuzumab-based therapy (group A), 7 HER2-positive patients received chemotherapy alone (group B) and the other 59 patients were HER2 negative (group C). The median progression-free survival (PFS) for groups A, B and C was 7.83, 6.30 and 5.33 months, respectively (P = 0.007). The median overall survival (OS) for groups A, B and C was 12.00, 10.47 and 8.67 months, respectively (P = 0.056). Further Cox analysis showed that there was no significant difference in OS (P = 0.917) and PFS (P = 0.456) between group B and C. CONCLUSIONS HER2 positivity was higher in GCLM patients. HER2 status itself was not an independent prognostic factor in GCLM patients. Trastuzumab-based therapy could significantly improve survival in HER2-positive GCLM patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND EXPERT and EXPERT-C were phase II clinical trials of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) followed by chemoradiotherapy (CRT) in high-risk, locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC). DESIGN We pooled individual patient data from these trials. The primary objective was overall survival (OS) in the intention-to-treat (ITT) population. Prognostic factors were also analysed. RESULTS A total of 269 patients were included. Of these, 91.1% completed NACT, 88.1% completed CRT and 240 (89.2%) underwent curative surgery (R0/R1). After a median follow-up of 71.9 months, 5-year progression-free survival (PFS) and OS were 66.4% and 73.3%, respectively. In the group of R0/R1 resection patients, 5-year relapse-free survival (RFS) and OS were 71.6% and 77.2%, respectively, with local recurrence occurring in 5.5% and distant metastases in 20.6% of cases. Significant prognostic factors after multivariate analyses included age, tumour grade and MRI extramural venous invasion (mrEMVI) at baseline, MRI tumour regression grade (mrTRG) after CRT, ypT stage after surgery and adherence to study treatment. mrTRG after NACT was associated with PFS (P = 0.002) and OS (P = 0.018) and appeared to stratify patients based on the incremental benefit from sequential CRT. Among the outcome measures considered, in the subgroup of R0/R1 resection patients, ypT and ypStage had the highest predictive accuracy for RFS (concordance index: 0.6238 and 0.6252, respectively) and OS (concordance index: 0.6094 and 0.6132, respectively). CONCLUSIONS Administering NACT before CRT could be a potential strategy for high-risk LARC. In this setting, mrTRG after CRT is an independent prognostic factor, while mrTRG after NACT should be tested as a parameter for treatment selection in trials of NACT ± CRT. ypT stage may be a valuable surrogate end point for future phase II trials investigating intensified neoadjuvant treatments in similar patient populations.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate whether mechanical stress induces mineral deposits that contribute to matrix degradation at the onset of osteoarthritis (OA) in temporomandibular joint (TMJ) cartilage. DESIGN Female Spraguee-Dawley rats were subjected to an unilateral anterior crossbite (UAC) procedure. Histology, electron microscopy, and energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS) were used to examine cartilage matrix structures and composition of mineral deposit in the affected TMJ cartilage. Protein and/or RNA expression of phenotypic markers and mineralization modulators and matrix degradation was analyzed by immunohistochemistry and/or real-time PCR. Synthetic basic calcium phosphate (BCP) and calcium pyrophosphate dehydrate (CPPD) crystals were used to stimulate ATDC5 cells for their impact on cell differentiation and gene expression. RESULTS Fragmented and disorganized collagen fibers, expanded fibrous spaces, and enhancement of matrix vesicle production and mineral deposition were observed in matrices surrounding hypertrophic chondrocytes in cartilage as early as 2-weeks post-UAC and exacerbated with time. The mineral deposits in TMJ cartilage at 12- and 20-weeks post-UAC had Ca/P ratios of 1.42 and 1.44, which are similar to the ratios for BCP. The expression of mineralization inhibitors, NPP1, ANK, CD73, and Matrix gla protein (MGP) was decreased from 2 to 8 weeks post-UAC, so were the chondrogenic markers, Col-2, Col-X and aggrecan. In contrast, the expression of tissue-nonspecific alkaline phosphatase (TNAP) and MMP13 was increased 4-weeks post-UAC. Treating ADTC5 cells with BCP crystals increased MMPs and ADAMTS5 expression, but reduced matrix production in a time-dependent manner. CONCLUSION UAC induces deposition of BCP-like minerals in osteoarthritic cartilage, which can stimulate matrix degradation by promoting the expression of cartilage-degrading enzymes to facilitate OA progression.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Sarcopenia is the loss of muscle mass and function seen with increasing age. Central to making the diagnosis of sarcopenia is the assessment of appendicular skeletal muscle mass (ASM). The objective of this study was to develop and validate novel anthropometric prediction equations (PEs) for ASM that would be useful in primary or aged care. DESIGN PEs were developed using best subset regression analysis. Three best performing PEs (PE1, PE2, PE3) were selected and validated using the Bland-Altman and Sheiner and Beal methods. SETTING Community dwelling adults in South Australia. PARTICIPANTS 188 healthy subjects were involved in the development study. 2275 older(age ≥ 50years) subjects were involved in the validation study. MEASUREMENTS ASM was assessed using dual x-ray abosrptiometry (DEXA). Weight and height was measured and body mass index (BMI) estimated. RESULTS A strong correlation between PE derived ASM and the DEXA derived ASM was seen for the three selected PEs. PE3: ASM= 10.047427 + 0.353307(weight) - 0.621112(BMI) - 0.022741(age) + 5.096201(if male) performed the best. PE3 over-estimated (P<0.001) ASM by 0.36 kg (95% CI 0.28-0.44 Kg) and the adjusted R2 was 0.869. The 95% limit of agreement was between -3.5 and 4.35 kg and the standard error of the estimate was 1.95. The root mean square error was 1.91(95% CI 1.80-2.01). PE3 also performed the best across the various age (50-65, 65-<80, 80+ years) and weight (BMI <18.5, 18.5-24.9, 25-29.9, ≥30 kg/m2) groups. CONCLUSIONS A new anthropometric PE for ASM has been developed for use in primary or aged care but is specific to Caucasian population groups.

Abstract
Quantitative structure-property relationship modelling can be a valuable alternative method to replace or reduce experimental testing. In particular, some endpoints such as octanol-water (KOW) and organic carbon-water (KOC) partition coefficients of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are easier to predict and various models have been already developed. In this paper, two different methods, which are multiple linear regression based on the descriptors generated using Dragon software and hologram quantitative structure-activity relationships, were employed to predict suspended particulate matter (SPM) derived log KOC and generator column, shake flask and slow stirring method derived log KOW values of 209 PCBs. The predictive ability of the derived models was validated using a test set. The performances of all these models were compared with EPI Suite™ software. The results indicated that the proposed models were robust and satisfactory, and could provide feasible and promising tools for the rapid assessment of the SPM derived log KOC and generator column, shake flask and slow stirring method derived log KOW values of PCBs.

Abstract
This paper presents a methodology for calculating exhaust emissions from on-road transport in cities with low-quality traffic data and outdated vehicle registries. The methodology consists of data collection approaches and emission calculation methods. For data collection, the paper suggests using video survey and parking lot survey methods developed for the International Vehicular Emissions model. Additional sources of information include data from the largest transportation companies, vehicle inspection stations, and official vehicle registries. The paper suggests using the European Computer Programme to Calculate Emissions from Road Transport (COPERT) 4 model to calculate emissions, especially in countries that implemented European emissions standards. If available, the local emission factors should be used instead of the default COPERT emission factors. The paper also suggests additional steps in the methodology to calculate emissions only from diesel vehicles. We applied this methodology to calculate black carbon emissions from diesel on-road vehicles in Murmansk, Russia. The results from Murmansk show that diesel vehicles emitted 11.7 tons of black carbon in 2014. The main factors determining the level of emissions are the structure of the vehicle fleet and the level of vehicle emission controls. Vehicles without controls emit about 55% of black carbon emissions.

Abstract
The objective was to study the effect of a commercially available xylanase (CAX), an experimental xylanase (EX), and EX in combination with protease (EXP) on the degradation of nondigestible carbohydrates (NDC) and apparent ileal digestibility (AID) of nutrients in wheat distillers dried grains with solubles (wDDGS). The control and 3 enzyme diets contained 96% wDDGS supplemented with vitamins, minerals, L-lysine, and chromic oxide as a digestibility marker in addition to enzyme premix. Eight ileal cannulated pigs were fed 4 experimental diets containing 96% wDDGS-a control diet or 1 of 3 diets with CAX, EX, or EXP-in a double 4 × 4 Latin square design. The experimental period lasted 7 d; adaptation lasted 4 d, and the ileal digesta were collected for 8 h on d 5 and 7, when spot samples of feces were also collected. Digesta samples were analyzed for NDC, total and soluble nonstarch polysaccharides (NSP), low molecular weight (LMW) NDC, OM, CP, fat, starch, and marker. Compared with the control diet, addition of CAX, EX, and EXP increased the AID of arabinoxylan by 32 (P < 0.001), 28 (P = 0.001), and 24% (P = 0.004), respectively. In addition, EXP increased the AID of noncellulosic polysaccharide glucose by 21% compared with the control (P = 0.005). Compared with the control, addition of EX, EXP, and CAX decreased the concentration of soluble arabinoxylan in ileal digesta by 40 (P < 0.0001), 40 (P < 0.0001), and 21% (P = 0.022), respectively. Furthermore, addition of CAX, EXP, and EX increased the concentration of LMW arabinoxylan in ileal digesta by 40 (P = 0.0001), 36 (P = 0.0006), and 24% (P = 0.023), respectively, compared with the control. Addition of EX and EXP decreased the concentration of soluble NSP of ileal digesta by 25 (P = 0.001) and 26% (P < 0.001), respectively, compared with the control diet. Addition of CAX (P < 0.0001) and EXP (P = 0.013) increased the arabinose-to-xylose ratio in the insoluble arabinoxylan fraction in ileal digesta compared with the control diet, and CAX increased the uronic acid-to-xylose ratio of the ileal insoluble NSP fraction (P < 0.0001) compared with the control diet. Enzyme addition did not affect AID of OM, CP, starch, and fat (P > 0.3). In conclusion, addition of xylanases to wDDGS diets increased the ileal digestibility of NSP and generated LMW NDC components in the small intestine of pigs but did not affect ileal digestibility of nutrients in the current study.

Abstract
A total of 1,440 straight-run Heritage 56M × fast-feathering Cobb 500F broiler birds were fed from 11 to 13 d of age to determine the impacts of calcium (Ca), phytate phosphorus (PP), nonphytate P (NPP) and phytase concentrations on the myo-inositol hexakisphosphate (IP6) flow through the different parts of gastrointestinal tract (GIT). The experiment was a 2×2×2×3 randomized block design with 2 Ca (0.7 and 1.0%), 2 PP (0.23 and 0.34%), 2 nPP (0.28 and 0.45%) and 3 phytase (0-, 500-, and 1,000-phytase unit (FTU)/kg) concentrations. The experiment was replicated twice (block) with 3 replicates per treatment (TRT) of 10 birds per block. Concentration of IP6 in crop, proventriculus (PROV) plus (+) gizzard (GIZ) and distal ileum digesta as well as the ileal IP6 disappearance was determined at 13 d of age. In crop, higher IP6 concentration was seen with increased Ca (P < 0.05). Despite the interaction between PP and phytase, higher dietary PP led to greater IP6 concentration (P < 0.05). Similar main effects of PP and phytase were also seen in Prov+Giz and ileum (P < 0.05) without interactions. Interaction between Ca and nPP on IP6 concentration was seen in Prov+Giz (P < 0.05). Decreased ileal IP6 disappearance was found at higher Ca (62.3% at 0.7% Ca vs. 57.5% at 1.0% Ca; P < 0.05). In general, adding phytase improved IP6 degradation but the degree of impact was dependent on nPP and PP (P < 0.05). In conclusion, phytase inclusion significantly reduced IP6 concentration and IP6 disappearance in distal ileum regardless of GIT segments or diet composition, but impacts of dietary Ca, nPP, and PP differed depending on GIT segment examined.

Abstract
The [C4F8] ligand was shown to support well-defined terpyridyl nickel complexes in the +2 and +3 oxidation states. Notably, a cyclic voltammetry study of the nickel(iii) species indicates that an additional oxidation is accessible, providing a family of related fluoroalkyl nickel complexes spanning the +2 to +4 oxidation states.

Abstract
Clinical studies indicate that adenosine contributes to esophageal mechanical hypersensitivity in some patients with pain originating in the esophagus. We have previously reported that the esophageal vagal nodose C fibers express the adenosine A2A receptor. Here we addressed the hypothesis that stimulation of the adenosine A2A receptor induces mechanical sensitization of esophageal C fibers by a mechanism involving transient receptor potential A1 (TRPA1). Extracellular single fiber recordings of activity originating in C-fiber terminals were made in the ex vivo vagally innervated guinea pig esophagus. The adenosine A2A receptor-selective agonist CGS21680 induced robust, reversible sensitization of the response to esophageal distention (10-60 mmHg) in a concentration-dependent fashion (1-100 nM). At the half-maximally effective concentration (EC50: ≈3 nM), CGS21680 induced an approximately twofold increase in the mechanical response without causing an overt activation. This sensitization was abolished by the selective A2A antagonist SCH58261. The adenylyl cyclase activator forskolin mimicked while the nonselective protein kinase inhibitor H89 inhibited mechanical sensitization by CGS21680. CGS21680 did not enhance the response to the purinergic P2X receptor agonist α,β-methylene-ATP, indicating that CGS21680 does not nonspecifically sensitize to all stimuli. Mechanical sensitization by CGS21680 was abolished by pretreatment with two structurally different TRPA1 antagonists AP18 and HC030031. Single cell RT-PCR and whole cell patch-clamp studies in isolated esophagus-specific nodose neurons revealed the expression of TRPA1 in A2A-positive C-fiber neurons and demonstrated that CGS21682 potentiated TRPA1 currents evoked by allylisothiocyanate. We conclude that stimulation of the adenosine A2A receptor induces mechanical sensitization of nodose C fibers by a mechanism sensitive to TRPA1 antagonists indicating the involvement of TRPA1.

Abstract
The combination of iron oxide and gold in a single nanoparticle results in both magnetic and plasmonic properties that can stimulate novel applications in bio-sensing, medical imaging, or therapeutics. Microwave assisted heating allows the fabrication of multi-component, multi-functional nanostructures by promoting selective heating at desired sites. Recently, we reported a microwave-assisted polyol route yielding gold nanotriangles decorated with iron oxide nanoparticles. Here, we present an in-depth microstructural and compositional characterization of the system using scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) and electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS). A method to remove the iron oxide nanoparticles from the gold nanocrystals and some insights on crystal nucleation and growth mechanisms are also provided.

Abstract
The fore- and hindlimb of yak have been studied by the gross anatomical methods and standard histological techniques. The artery of ungula was also determined by X-ray and acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene casting. Anatomical features of the forelimb of yak resemble those of hindlimb, including hoof periphery, hoof coronal, hoof wall, hoof sole, and hoof sphere. The forelimb and hindlimb are almost the same in histological structure. The epidermis comprised all 5 strata: stratum corneum, stratum lucidum, stratum granulosum, stratum spinosum and stratum basale. The papillary layers and dermal lamellae contained a variable amount of capillary as well as collagen and elastic fibres. Many venules and arteriovenous anastomosis were distributed among the reticular layer. Subcutaneous tissue was composed of rich adipose and connective tissue in hoof periphery, hoof coronal, and, especially, hoof sphere. Major arteria in forelimb of yak include arteria digitalis palmaris communis III and arteriae digitales palmares propriae III and IV axialis. Those in hindlimb include arteria digitalis plantaris communis III and arteria digitalis plantaris propria III and IV axialis. Our findings highlight the main morphological features of yak and provide a morphological basis useful to researchers using yak hoof.

Abstract
The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the safety and clinical efficacy of autologous cytokine-induced killer (CIK) cells combined with cyclophosphamide in the treatment of polyneuropathy, organomegaly, endocrinopathy, monoclonal gammopathy and skin changes (POEMS) syndrome patients. We evaluated five POEMS syndrome patients treated with autologous CIK cell immunotherapy combined with cyclophosphamide from 1 May 2012 to 30 November 2014. The Overall Neuropathy Limitation Scale (ONLS), computed tomography of the chest and abdomen, ultrasound of the abdomen, serum vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) level and lymphocyte count findings in the five patients were recorded. The median age of the patients was 40 years (range: 25-62), and all the patients were male. CIK cells were generated routinely from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of all five patients, and the numbers of CIK cells increased by approximately 105-fold after 14 days of culture. All five patients (100%) responded to their neuropathy treatment, the ONLS scores were reduced by at least 1 and a paired-sample t-test revealed a significant difference (t = 5·715, P = 0·003 < 0·01). The extravascular volume overload responses indicated partial remission (PR = 60%) or stable disease (SD = 40%), and no cases of progressive disease (PD) or complete remission (CR) were observed. During clinical treatment, the serum VEGF of patient 5 decreased after one cycle of transfusion within 1 month. The lymphocyte counts of all the patients increased significantly after CIK transfusion, and a paired-sample t-test revealed a significant difference (t = 5·101, P = 0·004 < 0·01). Autologous CIK cell infusion combined with cyclophosphamide was found to be highly safe and elicited no adverse reactions. CIK cells can improve both the symptoms and quality of life, decrease serum VEGF levels and increase lymphocyte counts in patients with POEMS syndrome.
