Abstract
PURPOSE Segmentation of organs from chest X-ray images is an essential task for an accurate and reliable diagnosis of lung diseases and chest organ morphometry. In this study, we investigated the benefits of augmenting state-of-the-art deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for image segmentation with organ contour information and evaluated the performance of such augmentation on segmentation of lung fields, heart, and clavicles from chest X-ray images. METHODS Three state-of-the-art CNNs were augmented, namely the UNet and LinkNet architecture with the ResNeXt feature extraction backbone, and the Tiramisu architecture with the DenseNet. All CNN architectures were trained on ground-truth segmentation masks and additionally on the corresponding contours. The contribution of such contour-based augmentation was evaluated against the contour-free architectures, and 20 existing algorithms for lung field segmentation. RESULTS The proposed contour-aware segmentation improved the segmentation performance, and when compared against existing algorithms on the same publicly available database of 247 chest X-ray images, the UNet architecture with the ResNeXt50 encoder combined with the contour-aware approach resulted in the best overall segmentation performance, achieving a Jaccard overlap coefficient of 0.971, 0.933, and 0.903 for the lung fields, heart, and clavicles, respectively. CONCLUSION In this study, we proposed to augment CNN architectures for CXR segmentation with organ contour information and were able to significantly improve segmentation accuracy and outperform all existing solution using a public chest X-ray database.

ZHONGHUA YU FANG YI XUE ZA ZHI [CHINESE JOURNAL OF PREVENTIVE MEDICINE] 2020; 54:187-191. [PMID: 32074708 DOI: 10.3760/cma.j.issn.0253-9624.2020.02.014] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 11/05/2022]
Abstract
Objective: To investigate the drug resistance pattern and drug resistance genotypes of Salmonella. spp isolated from fecal specimens and anal swabs of diarrhea cases in Anhui Province. Methods: The 149 strains of Salmonella.spp isolated from feces and anal swabs of diarrhea cases in Anhui Province from April to October 2017 were selected. The serotypes of Salmonella.spp were identified by slide agglutination. The susceptibility of all strains to 14 antibiotics were determined by micro-broth dilution method. Sixty of the cephalosporin-resistant antibiotics were selected. The β-lactamase encoding genes bla(TEM), bla(SHV), bla(OXA-1), bla(OXA-2), bla(PER), bla(CMY), bla(CTX-M), and colistin resistance genes mcr-1 and mcr-2 were performed using the multi-PCR method. Results: Of the 149 diarrhea cases, the median (P(25), P(75)) of the age was 5.0 (1.1, 38.5). The 92 of them were male and 54.4% were children. Of the 149 strains of Salmonella.spp, 105 strains had different degrees of resistance to 13 antibiotics other than imipenem. The resistance rate of ampicillin was 55.0% (82/149), which was the highest. 53.0% strains (79 strains) were multidrug resistant, main of which were Salmonella typhimurium and Salmonella enteritidis. A total of 53 resistance patterns were detected, and 10 strains were resistant to ampicillin-ampicillin/sulbactam-tetracycline-chloramphenicol-cefazolin-trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, which was the most common resistance pattern. Among the 60 cephalosporin resistant strains, 45 strains carried bla(TEM-1), 6 of which also carried bla(CTX-M-14) and 3 of which also carried bla(CTX-M-65). All the 32 strains carried only bla(TEM-1) show resistance to ampicillin and 31 of them show resistance to cefazolin. There were 2 strains showing negative results of gene detection. mcr-1 was detected in a multidrug resistant strain. Conclusion: The resistance of Salmonella.spp to ampicillin shows a serious situation in this region, and there were a number of multidrug resistant strains. The bla(TEM-1) was the major drug resistance gene detected in this research. Detection of the mcr-1 suggests the emergence of surveillance to colistin resistance of Salmonella.spp in this area.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinical features and improve the diagnosis and treatment of anomalous origin of the left coronary artery from the right coronary sinus with an interarterial course (ALCA-R-IAC) between the ascending aorta and main pulmonary artery in children. Methods: A retrospective analysis of the clinical manifestation, laboratory test, radiological feature, treatment and prognosis were conducted in four female children presented with ALCA-R-IAC in Beijing Children's Hospital from November 2015 to June 2018. Results: The four girls with onset age of 7.5-14.7 years were diagnosed with ALCA-R-IAC by CT coronary angiography (CTCA). Four children presented with exercise-induced syncope and clinical manifestations of acute myocardial infarction including 3 patients with acute left heart failure, 1 cardiogenic shock and 1 cardiac arrest. Nervous system involvement was found in one patient. Troponin I increased significantly to 20.65-50.00 μg/L in the four patients. Electrocardiogram (ECG) developed signs of left main coronary artery involvement. Echocardiography revealed reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) of 25%-45% in three children and suspected anomalous origin of the left coronary artery in one child. CTCA showed an anomalous left coronary artery originating from the right coronary sinus, which had an interarterial course between the aorta and pulmonary artery leading to a slim left main coronary trunk. Two children underwent unroofing procedure and the other two children in whom physical activities were restricted received conservative managements. During a regular follow-up period of 12-43 months, all the children survived without recurrent symptoms and had good prognosis. Conclusions: ALCA-R-IAC can present as exercise-related syncope and acute myocardial infarction, even sudden death in children and adolescents. CTCA is helpful to clarify the early diagnosis of ALCA-R-IAC. Surgical intervention is the main treatment for ALCA-R-IAC and strenuous physical activities should be avoided.

Measurement of Proton Electromagnetic Form Factors in e^{+}e^{-}→pp[over ¯] in the Energy Region 2.00-3.08 GeV. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2020; 124:042001. Abstract
The process of e^{+}e^{-}→pp[over ¯] is studied at 22 center-of-mass energy points (sqrt[s]) from 2.00 to 3.08 GeV, exploiting 688.5 pb^{-1} of data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. The Born cross section (σ_{pp[over ¯]}) of e^{+}e^{-}→pp[over ¯] is measured with the energy-scan technique and it is found to be consistent with previously published data, but with much improved accuracy. In addition, the electromagnetic form-factor ratio (|G_{E}/G_{M}|) and the value of the effective (|G_{eff}|), electric (|G_{E}|), and magnetic (|G_{M}|) form factors are measured by studying the helicity angle of the proton at 16 center-of-mass energy points. |G_{E}/G_{M}| and |G_{M}| are determined with high accuracy, providing uncertainties comparable to data in the spacelike region, and |G_{E}| is measured for the first time. We reach unprecedented accuracy, and precision results in the timelike region provide information to improve our understanding of the proton inner structure and to test theoretical models which depend on nonperturbative quantum chromodynamics.

Abstract
UNLABELLED We present a regional-scale integrated modeling system (IMS) that includes Environmental Policy Integrated Climate (EPIC), Weather Research and Forecast (WRF), Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ), and Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) models. The centerpiece of the IMS is the Fertilizer Emission Scenario Tool for CMAQ (FEST-C), which includes a Java-based interface and EPIC adapted to regional applications along with built-in database and tools. The SWAT integration capability is a key enhanced feature in the current release of FEST-C v1.4. For integrated modeling demonstration and evaluation, FEST-C EPIC is simulated over three individual years with WRF/CMAQ weather and N deposition. Simulated yearly changes in water and N budgets along with yields for two major crops (corn grain and soybean) match those inferred from intuitive physical reasoning and survey data given different-year weather conditions. Yearlong air quality simulations with an improved bidirectional ammonia flux modeling approach directly using EPIC-simulated soil properties including NH3 content helps reduce biases of simulated gas-phase NH3 and NH4 + wet deposition over the growing season. Integrated hydrology and water quality simulations applied to the Mississippi River Basin show that estimated monthly streamflow and dissolved N near the outlet to the Gulf of Mexico display similar seasonal patterns as observed. Limitations and issues in different parts of the integrated multimedia simulations are identified and discussed to target areas for future improvements. PLAIN LANGUAGE SUMMARY Computer modeling tools with land-water-air processes are important for understanding nutrient cycling and its negative impacts on air and water quality. We have developed an integrated modeling system that includes agriculture, atmosphere, and hydrology components. The centerpiece of the system is a computer system that includes an agricultural ecosystem model and tools used to connect different modeling components. The agricultural system can conduct simulations for 42 types of grassland and cropland with the influence of site, soil, and management information along with weather and nitrogen deposition from the atmosphere component. An air quality computer model then uses information from the agricultural model, such as how much ammonia is in the soil, to predict how much ammonia gets in the air. Then, the watershed hydrology and water quality model uses the information from the agricultural and atmospheric models to understand the influence of agriculture and atmosphere on water quality. The paper demonstrates and evaluates the integrated modeling system on issues mainly related to N cycling. The system performs reasonably well in comparison with survey and observation data given the configured modeling constraints. The paper also identifies and discusses the advantages and limitations in each part of the system for future applications and improvements.

Abstract
Using a total of 11.0 fb^{-1} of e^{+}e^{-} collision data with center-of-mass energies between 4.009 and 4.6 GeV and collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII, we measure fifteen exclusive cross sections and effective form factors for the process e^{+}e^{-}→Ξ^{-}Ξ[over ¯]^{+} by means of a single baryon-tag method. After performing a fit to the dressed cross section of e^{+}e^{-}→Ξ^{-}Ξ[over ¯]^{+}, no significant ψ(4230) or ψ(4260) resonance is observed in the Ξ^{-}Ξ[over ¯]^{+} final states, and upper limits at the 90% confidence level on Γ_{ee}B for the processes ψ(4230)/ψ(4260)→Ξ^{-}Ξ[over ¯]^{+} are determined. In addition, an excited Ξ baryon at 1820 MeV/c^{2} is observed with a statistical significance of 6.2-6.5σ by including the systematic uncertainty, and the mass and width are measured to be M=(1825.5±4.7±4.7) MeV/c^{2} and Γ=(17.0±15.0±7.9) MeV, which confirms the existence of the J^{P}=3/2^{-} state Ξ(1820).

Abstract
A continuous-wave (CW) Scheimpflug underwater multi-spectral lidar system was constructed to monitor aquatic fauna with spatial, spectral, and temporal resolution. Utilizing a 1 W 414 nm diode laser and a detection set-up with a reflective grating, measurements of shrimp pleopod movements at fixed range, and the swimming of small fish trapped in a clear tube were performed in a 5 m ×0.6 m ×0.6 m water tank. The spatial resolution is about 5 mm, the spectral resolution is 10 nm (from 400 nm to 700 nm), and with proper binning of the CCD, a read-out repetition rate up to 150 Hz can be reached. The experimental results demonstrate that the underwater Scheimpflug lidar system has great potential for detailed monitoring of the small aquatic fauna in oceanic environments.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the effect of listening to different types of music on intraocular pressure (IOP) and the underlying mechanism. Methods: Cross-sectional study. Participants were students from Sun Yat-sen University from October 2017 to May 2018. The study consisted of two parts. In part 1, three types of music, including relaxing, positive and negative music, were used to find out which kind of music could reduce IOP. IOP was measured before and after listening to music. A self-report questionnaire was used to evaluate emotional responses to each type of music. In part 2, the diurnal curve of IOP at 6 time points of 7:30, 9:30, 11:30, 13:30, 15:30 and 17:30 was measured to determine when the individual's IOP peaked. On the second day, the subject listened to the music that could reduce IOP for 15 minutes at his/her IOP peak time. IOP, blood pressure (BP) and heart rate (HR) were measured, and morphology of the chamber angle was captured by swept-source optical coherence tomography before and after listening to music. Image J software was used to measure the diameter and cross-sectional area of Schlemm's canal (SC). Paired t-test was used to compare BP, HR and SC measurements prior to and post-music intervention. Results: In part 1, fifteen subjects, including 7 males and 8 females, were enrolled, with an average age of (23±1) years. Relaxation music could significantly lower IOP [(11.62±2.51) vs. (12.65±2.49) mmHg (1 mmHg=0.133 kPa) , t=-2.39, P=0.032]. Positive music had no effect on IOP [(12.45±2.77) vs. (12.65±2.46) mmHg, P=0.566] and negative music increased IOP [(12.13±1.60) vs. (10.86±2.78) mmHg, t=2.45, P=0.029]. Relaxation music could also arouse relaxation emotions in 14 out of 15 subjects. In part 2, 55 subjects, including 20 males and 35 females, were enrolled, with an average age of (26±10) years. The diurnal curve of IOP at 6 time points of every participant was measured. At each individual's peak time point, listening to relaxation music could decrease IOP [(12.66±4.32) vs. (13.99±4.47) mmHg, t=-5.72, P<0.01]. HR before and after listening to relaxation music was (79.57±10.43) and (75.57±9.62) beats/min, respectively (t=-3.68, P=0.001). Systolic BP was (118.11±13.92) and (110.82±12.67) mmHg, respectively (t=-5.10, P<0.01). Diastolic BP significantly declined from (70.07±9.96) to (66.14±8.48) mmHg (t=-3.65, P=0.001). Average SC area significantly increased after listening to relaxation music [(255.96±93.36) vs. (230.07±92.20) pixels, t=2.88, P=0.006]. Average SC diameter was (8.62±1.89) and (9.41±2.37) pixels, respectively before and after listening to relaxation music (t=3.39, P=0.001). Conclusion: Relaxation music reduces IOP in healthy subjects probably by dilating the SC.(Chin J Ophthalmol, 2020, 56: 25-31).

Abstract
Chromatin reorganization governs gene expression regulation during pre-implantation development. However, the global chromatin landscape and its dynamics in this period remain unexplored in bovine. In this study, we constructed a genome-wide map of accessible chromatin in bovine oocytes and early embryos using an improved assay for transposase-accessible chromatin with high-throughput sequencing (ATAC-seq). We analysed pools of 20 germinal vesicles or MII oocytes or 2-, 4-, 8-, 16-cell, morula, and blastocyst stage invitro-produced embryos. We conducted ATAC-seq on six pools for each stage and an additional four pools of invivo-derived morula and blastocysts and six replicates using individual Day 14 elongating embryos. We obtained ~110 million paired end reads uniquely mapped to the bovine reference genome for each stage. Hierarchical clustering, t-distributed stochastic neighbour embedding, and principal component analysis showed four distinct patterns for open chromatin status: (1) low accessibility in germinal vesicles and MII oocytes and in 2- and 4-cell embryos; (2) significantly elevated accessibility in 8-cell, 16-cell, and morula embryos; (3) less accessibility in blastocysts; and (4) extremely high accessibility in elongating embryos. This dynamic and sequential chromatin remodelling is consistent with transcription activation during the bovine minor embryonic genome activation from fertilization to 4-cell, major embryonic genome activation at 8-cell, first differentiation at blastocyst and drastic transcription initiation for embryo elongation. Genome-wide characteristics of accessible chromatin showed (1) accessible chromatin near the transcription start sites of active genes and CpG-rich promoters; (2) widespread accessible chromatin regions extensively overlapped with transposable elements; (3) distal peaks preferentially enriched for repeats including LINE, SINE, and LTR from 8-cell to morula embryos, especially for LTR, whereas enrichment in simple repeats were found from oocytes to 4-cell and in elongating embryos; and (4) highly stage-specific transcription factor motifs in distal peaks were unveiled. By integrating the maps of chromatin accessibility with bovine embryo transcriptomes and DNA methylomes, we found promoter accessibility and DNA methylation in bovine embryos correlated with both gene activities and CpG densities. Most importantly, we constructed the regulatory networks of stage-specific expressed genes and stage-specific activated genes with three omics datasets in bovine early embryos and revealed conserved and distinctive transcriptional regulatory networks between invivo- and invitro-derived embryos. This comprehensive analysis revealed critical features of the chromatin landscape and epigenetic reprogramming during bovine early embryo development.

Abstract
By analyzing a 2.93 fb^{-1} data sample of e^{+}e^{-} collisions, recorded at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector operated at the BEPCII collider, we report the first observation of the semileptonic D^{+} transition into the axial-vector meson D^{+}→K[over ¯]_{1}(1270)^{0}e^{+}ν_{e} with a statistical significance greater than 10σ. Its decay branching fraction is determined to be B[D^{+}→K[over ¯]_{1}(1270)^{0}e^{+}ν_{e}]=(2.30±0.26_{-0.21}^{+0.18}±0.25)×10^{-3}, where the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively, and the third originates from the input branching fraction of K[over ¯]_{1}(1270)^{0}→K^{-}π^{+}π^{0}.

Expressions of VEGF and miR-21 in tumor tissues of cervical cancer patients with HPV infection and their relationships with prognosis. EUROPEAN REVIEW FOR MEDICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL SCIENCES 2019; 22:6274-6279. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the expressions of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and micro-ribonucleic acid-21 (miR-21) in cervical cancer patients with human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and determine the potential relationships with prognosis. PATIENTS AND METHODS Expressions of VEGF in cervical cancer tissues and cancer-adjacent tissues were detected by immunohistochemistry, and the expressions of miR-21 and VEGF in both tissues were quantitatively analyzed using reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Patients with cervical cancer were followed up after operation, and the survival rates of patients with different expression levels of miR-21 and VEGF were compared. RESULTS VEGF was expressed in both cervical cancer tissues and cancer-adjacent tissues. The positive expression rate of VEGF in cervical cancer tissues (75.69%) was significantly higher than that in cancer-adjacent tissues (10.45%). RT-PCR results showed that the expression levels of miR-21 and VEGF in cervical cancer tissues were significantly higher than those in cancer-adjacent tissues (p<0.05). Correlation analyses revealed that miR-21 expression was significantly positively correlated with VEGF expression in cervical cancer tissues (r2=0.4174, p<0.0001). Prognostic analyses showed that the 5-year survival rate of patients was relatively high when miR-21 and VEGF were lowly expressed. CONCLUSIONS VEGF and miR-21 are highly expressed in tumor tissues of cervical cancer patients with HPV infection. VEGF expression is significantly positively correlated with miR-21 expression, and the high levels of VEGF and miR-21 predict unfavorable prognosis of cervical cancer. Data provide a theoretical support for clinical treatment of cervical cancer patients with HPV infection.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the diagnostic value of skeletal muscle biopsy in patients with rhabdomyolysis. Methods: Clinical and pathological data of 26 patients with rhabdomyolysis from January 2002 to December 2018 undergoing muscle biopsy were collected. Results: Eighteen males and 8 females were finally recruited with median age of 6-73 (37.3±19.6) years. The average time from onset to biopsy was 44 days (median course was 30 days). All patients had acute manifestations with muscle pain and/or weakness. Serum creatine kinase was between 1 648-92 660 U/L. Muscle biopsies showed nonspecific changes in 12 cases (a few with type 2 muscle fiber atrophy, slight deposition of lipid droplets), 10 cases with necrotizing myopathy (muscle fiber necrosis and regeneration). Toxic neurogenic damages were seen in 2 cases (type 1 and type 2 angular atrophic muscle fibers with group change), lipid storage disease in 1 case (lipid droplets deposit significantly) and idiopathic inflammatory myopathy in 1 case (muscle fiber necrosis and regeneration, with lymphocyte infiltration). The etiology of non-specific pathological changes included short-term strenuous exercise in 6 patients, poisoning in two, chronic kidney disease in one, viral infection in one, hypothyroidism in one and unknown reason in one. As to patients with necrotizing myopathy, seven were poisoning or drug-related, one with hyperthyroidism, two with unknown reason. Conclusions: Among the numerous causes of rhabdomyolysis, exercise usually links nonspecific skeletal muscle changes and poisoning or drug-related disorders are commonly associated with necrotic myopathy. Rhabdomyolysis induced by primary myopathy is rare.

Abstract
We report the first observation of D^{+}→τ^{+}ν_{τ} with a significance of 5.1σ. We measure B(D^{+}→τ^{+}ν_{τ})=(1.20±0.24_{stat}±0.12_{syst})×10^{-3}. Taking the world average B(D^{+}→μ^{+}ν_{μ})=(3.74±0.17)×10^{-4}, we obtain R_{τ/μ}=Γ(D^{+}→τ^{+}ν_{τ})/Γ(D^{+}→μ^{+}ν_{μ})=3.21±0.64_{stat}±0.43_{syst}., which is consistent with the standard model expectation of lepton flavor universality. Using external inputs, our results give values for the D^{+} decay constant f_{D^{+}} and the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element |V_{cd}| that are consistent with, but less precise than, other determinations.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the protective effect of excretory-secretory protein (AES) from adult Trichinella spiralis on ovalbumin (OVA)-induced allergic rhinitis in mice. METHODS Eighteen female BALB/c mice were randomly divided into three groups, including the blank control group (Group A), OVA-induced rhinitis group (Group B) and AES treatment group (Group C). Mice in Group A were given PBS. Mice in Group B were intraperitoneally injected with antigen adjuvant suspension for systemic sensitization, once every other day for seven times; then, local excitation was intranasally induced with 5% OVA solution once a day for seven times to establish a mouse model of allergic rhinitis. In addition to induction of allergic rhinitis, mice in Group C were given 25 μg AES at baseline sensitization and local excitation. Following the final challenge, mice were observed for 30 min in each group, and the behavioral score was evaluated. The serum levels of IFN-γ, IL-4, IL-5, IL-10 and TGF-β were determined using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in mice, and the pathological changes of mouse nasal mucosa were observed under a microscope. RESULTS There was a significant difference in the mouse behavioral scores among the three groups (F = 110.12, P < 0.01). The mouse behavioral score was significantly higher in Group B than in Group A (7.17 ± 0.75 vs. 1.33 ± 0.52, P < 0.01), and more remarkable pathological damages of mouse nasal mucosa were seen in Group B than in Group A, while the mouse behavioral score was significantly decreased in Group C than in Group B (P < 0.01), and the pathological damages of mouse nasal mucosa remarkably alleviated in Group C relative to Group B. There was a significant difference in serum IFN-γ level among the three groups (F = 7.50, P < 0.01) and the serum IFN-γ level in Group B was significantly lower than in group A and C (both P < 0.05). There were significant differences in serum IL-4 (F = 470.81, P < 0.01) and IL-5 levels (F =68.20, P < 0.01) among the three groups, and significantly greater serum IL-4 and IL-5 levels were detected in Group B than in Group A (P < 0.01), while significantly lower serum IL-4 and IL-5 levels were detected in Group C than in Group B (P < 0.01). There were significant differences in serum IL-10 (F = 174.91, P < 0.01) and TGF-β levels (F = 9.39, P < 0.01) among the three groups, and significantly greater serum IL-10 and TGF-β levels were seen in Group C than in Group B (both P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS T. spiralis AES has a remarkable protective activity against OVA-induced allergic rhinitis in mice.

Elevated miR-21 is associated with poor prognosis in non-small cell lung cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis. EUROPEAN REVIEW FOR MEDICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL SCIENCES 2019; 22:4166-4180. [PMID: 30024605 DOI: 10.26355/eurrev_201807_15410] [Citation(s) in RCA: 6] [Impact Index Per Article: 1.2] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 11/12/2022]
Abstract
OBJECTIVE Increasing studies have investigated the prognostic value of high miR-21 expression in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with inconsistent results. We conducted this meta-analysis to explore whether the expression of miR-21 was associated with prognosis in NSCLC patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS We systematically searched Medline, EMBASE, Web of Science and Cochrane Library for relevant studies. Studies exploring the relationship between miR-21 expression and NSCLC prognosis and clinical pathology, and reporting enough data to get the hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs), were included. Random- or fixed-effect models were employed to calculated pooled hazard ratios (HRs) or risk ratio and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs). RESULTS A total of 28 eligible studies, including 24 for prognosis, 16 for clinicopathological features were identified. Our results revealed that elevated miR-21 was related to unfavorable overall survival (OS) in NSCLC (HR = 1.960, 95% CI = 1.510-2.554, p = 0.000). Similar results were found in disease-free survival, relapse-free survival, and cancer-special death. In a meta-analysis of clinical pathology, overexpressed miR-21 was significantly related to lung adenocarcinoma, larger tumor size, and advanced clinical stage. CONCLUSIONS Our meta-analysis suggested that miR-21 may function as an unfavorable biomarker of prognosis in NSCLC patients.

Abstract
Objective: To determine the factors affecting distribution and magnitude of antibody detection value in myasthenia gravis (MG). Methods: A total of 406 MG patients diagnosed at Department of Neurology, Peking University First Hospital from May 2015 to November 2017 were included. All of them exhibited muscle fatigue with decreased response in repetitive nerve stimulation test. There were 200 males and 206 females whose ages ranged from 2 to 85 years old. According to clinical classification of MG recommended by Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America (MGFA), patients assigned to class I to class V included 200,140, 46, 15 and 5 cases, respectively. There were 33 cases of thymic hyperplasia and 63 cases of thymoma confirmed by radiological or pathological findings. Quantile plots and quantile regression model were used to determine the effects of age, gender and MGFA classification, thymus disease on acetylcholine receptors (AChR)antibody, acetylcholinesterase (AChE) antibody, Titin antibody, ryanodine receptor (RyR) antibody and muscle-specific tyrosine kinase (MuSK) antibody detection values detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Results: MGFA classification had effects on distribution of AChR antibody level. There was a positive correlation between age and AChR antibody level(P<0.05). Negative correlation was found between age and AChE, Titin and RyR antibody level (P<0.05). No significant correlation was shown between any factors and MuSK antibody level(P≥0.05). MGFA classification had a positive correlation with AChR antibody level (P<0.05) and no correlation with other antibody levels (P>0.05). Gender and thymus disease had no correlation with any tested antibody levels (P>0.05). Conclusion: MGFA classification has significant effects on distribution of AChR antibody level. Age and MGFA classification have positive correlation with AChR antibody level.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous mass screening studies have shown that IgA antibodies against Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) can facilitate early detection of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), but the impact of EBV-antibody screening for NPC-specific mortality remains unknown. PATIENTS AND METHODS A prospective, cluster randomized, controlled trial for NPC screening (PRO-NPC-001) was conducted in 3 selected towns of Zhongshan City and 13 selected towns of Sihui City in southern China beginning in 2008. Serum samples of the screening group were tested for two previously selected anti-EBV antibodies. Subjects with serological medium risk were subsequently retested annually for 3 years, and those with serological high risk were referred to otorhinolaryngologists for diagnostic check-up. An interim analysis was carried out to evaluate the primary end points of the NPC-specific mortality and the early diagnostic rate, and the secondary end point of the NPC incidence, through linkage with the database of Zhongshan City. RESULTS Among 70 296 total subjects, 29 413 screened participants (41.8% of the total subjects) in the screening group and 50 636 in the control group, 153 (43.3 per 100 000 person-year), 62 (55.3 per 100 000 person-year) and 99 (33.1 per 100 000 person-year) NPC cases were identified. The early diagnostic rates of NPC were significantly higher in the participants (79.0%, P < 0.0001) and the screening group (45.9%, P < 0.0001) compared with the control group (20.6%). Although no differences were found between NPC-specific mortality of the screening group and the control group [relative risk (RR)= 0.82, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.37-1.79], lower NPC-specific mortality was noticed among participants from the screening group versus the control group (RR = 0.22, 95% CI 0.09-0.49). CONCLUSION IgA antibodies against EBV can identify high-risk population and was effective in screening for early asymptomatic NPC. Although the mortality reduction was not significant in the primary end point, we noted encouraging evidence of a mortality reduction in screening participants in this interim analysis. CLINICAL TRIAL NUMBER NCT00941538.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the expression discordances of estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), human epidermal growth factor receptor2 (HER-2) and Ki-67 in primary and metastatic breast cancer specimens and explore the clinical significances. Methods: Biopsies of metastatic lesions were performed in 203 patients with breast cancer recurrence and metastasis indicated by physical examination and/or imaging examination. We confirmed pathological properties and assessed the expressions of ER, PR, HER-2 and Ki-67 in primary and metastatic lesions, their relationships with prognosis were also analyzed. Results: Biopsy failed in 3 patients, the pathology and immunohistochemitry results of metastatic lesions were not obtained. One person was diagnosed as tuberculosis and another was primary lung cancer. Among the 198 cases of primary and metastatic lesions, the discordance rates of ER, PR, HER-2 and Ki-67 were 27.3%, 34.3%, 11.8% and 15.1%, respectively. The expressions of ER, HER-2 and Ki-67 were not significantly different between the primary and metastatic lesions, however, the expressions of PR were more likely to turn negative in the metastases (P<0.001). The disease-free survival (DFS) of patients with ER, PR positive, HER-2 negative and low expression of Ki-67 in metastatic lesion was much longer (P<0.05). Conclusions: The expressions of ER, PR, HER-2 and Ki-67 in metastatic lesions are associated with the prognosis of breast cancer patients.Their expression discordances between primary and metastatic lesions can guide the treatment and evaluate the risks of recurrence and prognosis.

Abstract
The exclusive process e^{+}e^{-}→ΛΛ[over ¯], with Λ→pπ^{-} and Λ[over ¯]→p[over ¯]π^{+}, has been studied at sqrt[s]=2.396 GeV for measurement of the timelike Λ electric and magnetic form factors, G_{E} and G_{M}. A data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 66.9 pb^{-1}, was collected with the BESIII detector for this purpose. A multidimensional analysis with a complete decomposition of the spin structure of the reaction enables a determination of the modulus of the ratio R=|G_{E}/G_{M}| and, for the first time for any baryon, the relative phase ΔΦ=Φ_{E}-Φ_{M}. The resulting values are R=0.96±0.14(stat)±0.02(syst) and ΔΦ=37°±12°(stat)±6°(syst), respectively. These are obtained using the recently established and most precise value of the asymmetry parameter α_{Λ}=0.750±0.010 measured by BESIII. In addition, the cross section is measured with unprecedented precision to be σ=118.7±5.3(stat)±5.1(syst) pb, which corresponds to an effective form factor of |G|=0.123±0.003(stat)±0.003(syst). The contribution from two-photon exchange is found to be negligible. Our result enables the first complete determination of baryon timelike electromagnetic form factors.

Abstract
We present the first amplitude analysis of the decay D_{s}^{+}→π^{+}π^{0}η. We use an e^{+}e^{-} collision data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.19 fb^{-1} collected with the BESIII detector at a center-of-mass energy of 4.178 GeV. We observe for the first time the W-annihilation dominant decays D_{s}^{+}→a_{0}(980)^{+}π^{0} and D_{s}^{+}→a_{0}(980)^{0}π^{+}. We measure the absolute branching fraction B(D_{s}^{+}→a_{0}(980)^{+(0)}π^{0^{(}+)},a_{0}(980)^{+(0)}→π^{+(0)}η)=(1.46±0.15_{stat}±0.23_{sys})%, which is larger than the branching fractions of other measured pure W-annihilation decays by at least one order of magnitude. In addition, we measure the branching fraction of D_{s}^{+}→π^{+}π^{0}η with significantly improved precision.

Abstract
Objective: To construct Bayes discriminant function for clinical classification of common and severe Japanese encephalitis (JE) cases, and to identify cases accurately with quantitative indicators. Methods: Samples of confirmed common and severe JE cases reported by the epidemic surveillance system of Gansu Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention from 2005 to 2017 were collected. Non-conditional logistic regression analysis and Bayes stepwise discriminant analysis were used to screen meaningful clinical indicators, so as to construct and evaluate Bayes discriminant function. Results: There were 256 common JE cases and 257 severe JE cases. There were no significant differences in sex, age and occupation distributions between the two groups (P>0.05) and there was significant difference in case fatality rate (P<0.05). Non-conditional logistic regression analysis and Bayes stepwise discriminant analysis, combined with using related literature, to screen 11 clinical indicators for the construction of Bayes discriminant function. Interactive validation showed that the sensitivity of discriminant function was 71.48% (95%CI: 65.53%-76.93%) and the specificity was 73.93% (95%CI: 68.11%-79.19%). The area under ROC curve was 0.761 (95%CI: 0.720-0.803) and the total accuracy rate was 72.71%. Conclusion: Bayes discriminant function can be used to identify common and severe JE cases more accurately, which is helpful for the reasonable treatment and good prognosis of JE patients.

Abstract
Abstract
BACKGROUND
Glioblastoma (GBM) has obvious blood vessels proliferation, which is one of the important histological diagnostic criteria. Bevacizumab, VEGF targeted inhibitor, is found inefficient in 2/3 cases after the clinical trial. Here, we found a specific 90kDa form of VEGF (VEGF90K) in exosomes of GBM could activate TAZ expression in endothelial cells to promote angiogenesis, which might also contribute to Bevacizumab treatment resistance.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
Exosomes were isolated from U87, LN229 GBM cell culture medium and characterized using transmission electron microscopy, nanoparticle analysis, and western blotting. VEGF expression in GBM and TAZ expression in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) are inhibited by shRNA. In vitro migration, proliferation, and tube formation assays were used to assess the angiogenic potential of HUVEC cells. Western blotting was used to analysis TAZ expression in HUVEC. Bevacizumab or exosome inhibitor GW4869 were used separately or together to evaluation their blocking effects on angiogenic functions of GBM cells.
RESULTS
we found a unique 90kDa form of VEGF (VEGF90K) from exosome of GBM cells could activate TAZ expression in HUVEC cells which correlated with higher levels of cellular migration, proliferation, and tube formation. Knockdown VEGF expression in GBM exosomes or TAZ expression in HUVEC cells could decrease the angiogenic function of GBM cells. GW4869 combine Bevacizumab had significantly inhibited the angiogenic ability of GBM cells in vivo and in vitro.
CONCLUSION
A specific exosome-associated VEGF from GBM can promote angiogenesis by activating TAZ expression in endothelial cells. Targeted inhibition of exosome secretion can significantly inhibit tumor angiogenesis and restore bevacizumab effect. Our study highlights the unique properties of VEGF in exosome which might help to explore new treatment strategies of GBM.

Abstract
Objective: To study the clinical characteristics of outpatients with hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) caused by different serotypes of enteroviruses. Methods: This was a prospective study. From February 2017 to March 2018, 563 outpatients with HFMD were enrolled by systematic sampling in the Department of Infectious Diseases, Henan Children's Hospital. Throat swabs were collected to determine the serotypes via PCR. Demographic, clinical, and laboratory data were collected by standard questionnaire. All cases were followed up twice at 2 and 9 weeks after the initial outpatient visit through telephone interview. A total of 563 cases were enrolled and 555 (98.6%) cases were positive for human enteroviruses, including 338 (60.9%) males. Analyses were stratified by enterovirus serotypes, Chi square test or Fisher's exact test, Rank sum test was used for comparison among different groups. Results: The age of 555 cases was 24.2 (16.4, 41.3) months. Among them 44.0% (224 cases) were identified as coxsackievirus (CV)-A6, while 189 cases, 35 cases, 14 cases and 73 cases were identified as CV-A16, enterovirus (EV)-A71, CV-A10 and other serotypes, respectively. Fever (≥37.5 ℃) was present in 51.4% (285/555) of laboratory confirmed cases. The proportions of fever in cases of CV-A6 (68.9%(168/244)) and CV-A10 (12/14) were significantly higher than those in cases of CV-A16 (31.7%(60/189),χ(2)=57.344,14.313,both P=0.000), other serotypes (43.8%(32/73),χ(2)=15.101 and 8.242, P=0.000 and 0.004) and EV-A71 (37.1%(13/35), χ(2)=13.506 and 9.441, P=0.000 and 0.002) respectively. There was no significant difference between CV-A6 and CV-A10 in presentation of fever (χ(2)=1.785, P=0.182). There were 359 cases (64.7%) with eruptions in mouth, hands, feet and buttocks. Cases infected with EV-A71 had the highest proportions (74.3%(26/35)) of rash emerging simultaneously in mouth, hands, feet, and buttocks. The proportion in cases of CV-A16, CV-A6, CVA10 and other serotype were 73.5% (139/189), 61.9% (151/244), 7/14 and 49.3% (36/73), respectively. The proportion of rash on other parts of body, such as face, limbs or torso in cases infected with CV-A6 (16.8% (41/244)) was the higherest and the proportion in cases of CV-A16, EV-A71, CV-A10 or other serotypes were 8.5% (16/189) , 5.7% (2/35) , 1/14, 6.8% (5/73) , respectively. None of these cases developed serious complications. Desquamation occurred in 45.5% (179/393) cases 7.5 (5.0, 9.0) days after disease onset and 13.5% (53/393) cases showed onychomadesis 31.0 (18.0, 33.5) days after disease onset. The proportion of desquamation and onychomadesis associated with CV-A6 (64.2% (95/148) and 31.8% (47/148)) was significantly higher than CV-A16 (31.8% (49/154) and 1.3% (2/154), χ(2)=33.601 and 52.482, both P=0.000) and other serotypes (38.0%(19/50) and 6.0%(3/50),χ(2)=10.236 and 12.988, P=0.001 and 0.000). Desquamation appeared more in cases of CV-A6 than in cases of CV-A10 (2/11,χ(2)=9.386, P=0.002), with the proportion of onychomadesis higher in CV-A6 than in EV-A71 (3.3% (1/30),χ(2)=11.088, P=0.001). Conclusion: Clinical manifestation such as fever, rash emerging parts, desquamation and onychomadesis are different among outpatient HFMD cases infected with CV-A16, CV-A6, EV-A71, CV-A10 and other enteroviruses.

Abstract
High exposure to advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) may induce cardiotoxicity. However, the effects and mechanisms remain to be further clarified. CYP4A plays an important role in the pathophysiological process of myocardial abnormalities by modulating oxidative stress and apoptosis (OS/Apop) signaling pathway. The present work aimed to investigate whether CYP4A mediates AGEs-induced myocardial injury. AGEs solution was administered intragastrically to C57BL/6 mice for 60 days, while the specific inhibitor of CYP4A, HET0016, was given from the 47th day via intraperitoneal injection for 2 weeks. Levels of OS/Apop in heart tissue were measured. The effects on the cell viability and apoptosis were detected in primary rat cardiomyocytes. To further investigate the mechanism, H9c2 cells were treated with HET0016 or small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) against CYP4a mRNA before incubation with AGEs. Exposure to AGEs led to significantly increased expression of CYP4A and levels of OS/Apop in heart and H9c2 cells both in vivo and in vitro. The OS/Apop pathway was activated with increased expression of NOX2, p-JNK, and cleaved caspase-3 (c-caspase-3) and decreased expression of p-Akt and Bcl-xL both in vivo and in vitro. Specific CYP4A suppression by HET0016 or siRNA exerted significant protective effects by attenuating AGEs-induced OS/Apop pathways in vitro. Our results demonstrate that specific inhibition of CYP4A might be a potential therapeutic option for myocardial injury induced by AGEs.

Suppressor of cytokine signaling 1 (SOCS1) silencing and Hep-2 sensitizing dendritic cell vaccine in laryngocarcinoma immunotherapy. EUROPEAN REVIEW FOR MEDICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL SCIENCES 2019; 23:5958-5966. [PMID: 31298347 DOI: 10.26355/eurrev_201907_18342] [Citation(s) in RCA: 2] [Impact Index Per Article: 0.4] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 11/12/2022]
Abstract
OBJECTIVE Many studies have recently suggested that dendritic cell (DC) vaccine contributes to the immunotherapy of various types of human tumors. It has been proved that the tumor antigen sensitizing and the gene silencing are effective methods for the preparation of the DC vaccines. The aim of this study is to investigate the specific anti-laryngocarcinoma immune response for the suppression of cytokine signaling1 (SOCS1) silencing and Hep-2 sensitizing DC. MATERIALS AND METHODS The dendritic cells derived from peripheral blood mononuclear cells were induced by cytokines GM-CSF, IL-4, and TNF-α in vitro, and the morphological characteristics of dendritic cells were observed under a microscope, indicating that they successfully differentiated into dendritic cells. The RNA interference vector was used to transfect dendritic cells. The expression of SOCS1 was detected by Western blot and the effective target sequence for inhibiting the expression of SOCS1 was screened. The expressions of CD83, CD86, and HLA-DR on dendritic cells were detected by flow cytometry. The content of IFN-γ in the supernatant was analyzed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium (MTT) was used to evaluate the ability of dendritic cells to stimulate T cell proliferation and induce the killing activity of cytotoxic T cells. RESULTS The result of PCR and Western blot analysis shows that the expression of SOCS1 significantly decreased under the influence of the 5th interference sequence. The flow cytometric analysis results show that SOCS1 silencing and Hep-2 sensitizing dendritic cells had high expressions of CD83 (85.61±0.96)%, CD86 (96.86±1.20)%, and HLA-DR (98.02±0.94)%. The DC vaccine could increase the production of IFN-γ according to the ELISA assay results. The MTT assay results show that the DC vaccine could also stimulate the proliferation of the T cells and effectively and eventually enhance the specific killing effect of CTL. CONCLUSIONS SOCS1 silencing and Hep-2 sensitizing DC vaccine could induce an effective and specific anti-laryngocarcinoma immune response.

Brain cancer survival in Canada 1996-2008: effects of sociodemographic characteristics. ACTA ACUST UNITED AC 2019; 26:e292-e299. [PMID: 31285671 DOI: 10.3747/co.26.4273] [Citation(s) in RCA: 5] [Impact Index Per Article: 1.0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 11/15/2022]
Abstract
Background Literature suggests that factors such as rural residence and low socioeconomic status (ses) might contribute to disparities in survival for Canadian cancer patients because of inequities in access to care. However, evidence specific to brain cancer is limited. The present research estimates the effects of rural or urban residence and ses on survival for Canadian patients diagnosed with brain cancer. Methods Adults diagnosed with primary malignant brain tumours during 1996-2008 were identified through the Canadian Cancer Registry. Brain tumours were classified using International Classification of Diseases for Oncology (3rd edition) site and histology codes. Hazard ratios (hrs) and 95% confidence intervals (cis) were estimated using Cox proportional hazards models. Events were restricted to individuals whose underlying cause of death was cancer-related. Postal codes were used to match patient records with Statistics Canada data for rural or urban residence and neighbourhood income as a surrogate measure of ses. Results Of 25,700 patients included in the analysis, 78% died during the study period, 21% lived in rural areas, and 19% were in the lowest income group. A modest variation in survival by rural compared with urban residence was observed for patients with glioblastoma (first 5 weeks after diagnosis hr: 0.86; 95% ci: 0.79 to 0.99) and oligoastrocytoma (first 3 years after diagnosis hr: 1.41; 95% ci: 1.03 to 1.93). Small effects of low compared with high income were seen for patients with glioblastoma (first 1.5 years after diagnosis hr: 1.15; 95% ci: 1.08 to 1.22) and diffuse astrocytoma (first 6 months after diagnosis hr: 1.17; 95% ci: 1.00 to 1.36). Conclusions Our analysis did not yield evidence of strong effects of rural compared with urban residence or ses strata on survival in brain cancer. However, some variation in survival for patients with specific histologies warrants further research into the mechanisms by which rural or urban residence and income stratum influences survival.

Abstract
Perioperative treatment combined with radical resection is the major approach to cure non-metastatic colon cancer. A precise evaluation and perioperative treatment would probably improve the R0 resection rate, recurrence-free survival and overall survival of colon cancer patients. Recently, individualized treatment is the mainstream due to the development of molecular pathology and multi-disciplinary therapy. The indications and course of perioperative treatment and preoperative neoadjuvant therapy of colon cancer are still in intense discussion. The present review will mainly discuss three topics. Firstly, the various reaction of adjuvant therapy to stage II colon cancer is caused by patients' heterogeneity. Choosing stratified treatment for these patients according to clinical and molecular pathological features is the future. Secondly, we discuss the adjuvant chemotherapy course for stage III colon cancer according to the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO) guideline and the progress of this field. Lastly, we summarize the status and significance of colon cancer neoadjuvant therapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Glioma is a type of tumor that occurs in the brain and accounts for almost 30 % of all brain and central nervous system tumors and 80 % of all malignant brain tumors. In this study, we investigate the role of cAMP response element-binding protein (CREB) in the progression of glioma. METHODS Tissue samples from glioma patients were collected and examined for expression of CREB and its correlation with tumor grades. CREB was then knocked down via siRNA to see if reduced expression of CREB affects cell proliferation and migration. Factors involved in cell cycles, adhesion and apoptosis were examined as well. Moreover, CRESP/CAS9 mediated knockout of CREB was conducted and athymic Nude mice model was used to investigate CREB's role in vivo. RESULTS The evaluated expression level of CREB in glioma patients was correlated with tumor grades. Knockdown of CREB via siRNA in glioma cell line U251 significantly inhibited the proliferation and migration of tumor cells. Moreover, CyclinD1 and Bcl-2 expression were reduced, as well as phosphorylation of IRK1/2 and AKT. Additionally, knockout of CREB via CRESP/CAS9 inhibited tumor formation of U251 cells in athymic Nude mice model. CONCLUSIONS In conclusion, our data suggest that over expression of CREB may contribute to progression of glioma and knockdown of CREB expression may serve as a novel target for therapy (Tab. 1, Fig. 6, Ref. 25).

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to (a) assess the relationship between interferon-stimulated gene 15 (ISG15) expression and clinical manifestations of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and (b) investigate the diagnostic value of ISG15 in SLE. PATIENTS AND METHODS The study comprised 28 patients newly diagnosed with SLE, 10 patients with undifferentiated connective tissue disease, and 22 healthy volunteers. Of the SLE patients, 14 were chosen randomly to be followed up for 4 weeks. ISG15 expression in whole blood cells was determined by quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Clinical and laboratory parameters were recorded at baseline and after treatment. RESULTS The ISG15 mRNA level was higher in whole blood cell counts of SLE patients when compared with the disease control and healthy control groups. Moreover, it was correlated with SLE disease activity as assessed via the SLE disease activity index, serositis, and anemia at baseline. ISG15 expression correlated with lymphocytopenia in active SLE patients before treatment. On receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, the area under the curve for ISG15 expression was 0.826 (p = 0.000015). CONCLUSION ISG15 expression is relatively high in SLE patients and correlates with disease activity before treatment. ISG15 expression is higher in SLE patients with lymphocytopenia before treatment.

Abstract
We study the e^{+}e^{-}→γωJ/ψ process using 11.6 fb^{-1} e^{+}e^{-} annihilation data taken at center-of-mass energies from sqrt[s]=4.008 GeV to 4.600 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. The X(3872) resonance is observed for the first time in the ωJ/ψ system with a significance of more than 5σ. The relative decay ratio of X(3872)→ωJ/ψ and π^{+}π^{-}J/ψ is measured to be R=1.6_{-0.3}^{+0.4}±0.2, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic (the same hereafter). The sqrt[s]-dependent cross section of e^{+}e^{-}→γX(3872) is also measured and investigated, and it can be described by a single Breit-Wigner resonance, referred to as the Y(4200), with a mass of 4200.6_{-13.3}^{+7.9}±3.0 MeV/c^{2} and a width of 115_{-26}^{+38}±12 MeV. In addition, to describe the ωJ/ψ mass distribution above 3.9 GeV/c^{2}, we need at least one additional Breit-Wigner resonance, labeled as X(3915), in the fit. The mass and width of the X(3915) are determined. The resonant parameters of the X(3915) agree with those of the Y(3940) in B→KωJ/ψ and of the X(3915) in γγ→ωJ/ψ observed by the Belle and BABAR experiments within errors.

Abstract
Bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) signaling performs multiple essential functions during craniofacial development. In this study, we used the adult mouse incisor as a model to uncover how BMP signaling maintains tissue homeostasis and regulates mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) fate by mediating WNT and FGF signaling. We observed a severe defect in the proximal region of the adult mouse incisor after loss of BMP signaling in the Gli1+ cell lineage, indicating that BMP signaling is required for cell proliferation and odontoblast differentiation. Our study demonstrates that BMP signaling serves as a key regulator that antagonizes WNT and FGF signaling to regulate MSC lineage commitment. In addition, BMP signaling in the Gli1+ cell lineage is also required for the maintenance of quiescent MSCs, suggesting that BMP signaling not only is important for odontoblast differentiation but also plays a crucial role in providing feedback to the MSC population. This study highlights multiple important roles of BMP signaling in regulating tissue homeostasis.

Abstract
Using a total of 9.0 fb^{-1} of e^{+}e^{-} collision data with center-of-mass energies between 4.15 and 4.30 GeV collected by the BESIII detector, we search for the processes e^{+}e^{-}→γX(3872) with X(3872)→π^{0}χ_{cJ} for J=0, 1, 2. We report the first observation of X(3872)→π^{0}χ_{c1}, a new decay mode of the X(3872), with a statistical significance of more than 5σ for all systematic fit variations. Normalizing to the previously established process e^{+}e^{-}→γX(3872) with X(3872)→π^{+}π^{-}J/ψ, we find B(X(3872)→π^{0}χ_{c1})/B(X(3872)→π^{+}π^{-}J/ψ)=0.88_{-0.27}^{+0.33}±0.10, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. We set 90% confidence level upper limits on the corresponding ratios for the decays to π^{0}χ_{c0} and π^{0}χ_{c2} of 19 and 1.1, respectively.

Abstract
Based on a sample of (1310.6±7.0)×10^{6}J/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector, we present measurements of J/ψ and η^{'} absolute branching fractions using the process J/ψ→γη^{'}. By analyzing events where the radiative photon converts into an e^{+}e^{-} pair, the branching fraction for J/ψ→γη^{'} is measured to be (5.27±0.03±0.05)×10^{-3}. The absolute branching fractions of the five dominant decay channels of the η^{'} are then measured for the first time and are determined to be B(η^{'}→γπ^{+}π^{-})=(29.90±0.03±0.55)%, B(η^{'}→ηπ^{+}π^{-})=(41.24±0.08±1.24)%, B(η^{'}→ηπ^{0}π^{0})=(21.36±0.10±0.92)%, B(η^{'}→γω)=(2.489±0.018±0.074)%, and B(η^{'}→γγ)=(2.331±0.012±0.035)%, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic.

Abstract
Stimulation with ultrafast light pulses can realize and manipulate states of matter with emergent structural, electronic and magnetic phenomena. However, these non-equilibrium phases are often transient and the challenge is to stabilize them as persistent states. Here, we show that atomic-scale PbTiO3/SrTiO3 superlattices, counterpoising strain and polarization states in alternate layers, are converted by sub-picosecond optical pulses to a supercrystal phase. This phase persists indefinitely under ambient conditions, has not been created via equilibrium routes, and can be erased by heating. X-ray scattering and microscopy show this unusual phase consists of a coherent three-dimensional structure with polar, strain and charge-ordering periodicities of up to 30 nm. By adjusting only dielectric properties, the phase-field model describes this emergent phase as a photo-induced charge-stabilized supercrystal formed from a two-phase equilibrium state. Our results demonstrate opportunities for light-activated pathways to thermally inaccessible and emergent metastable states.

Abstract
Using e^{+}e^{-} annihilation data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.19 fb^{-1} collected at a center-of-mass energy of 4.178 GeV with the BESIII detector, we measure the absolute branching fractions B_{D_{s}^{+}→ηe^{+}ν_{e}}=(2.323±0.063_{stat}±0.063_{syst})% and B_{D_{s}^{+}→η^{'}e^{+}ν_{e}}=(0.824±0.073_{stat}±0.027_{syst})% via a tagged analysis technique, where one D_{s} is fully reconstructed in a hadronic mode. Combining these measurements with previous BESIII measurements of B_{D^{+}→η^{(')}e^{+}ν_{e}}, the η-η^{'} mixing angle in the quark flavor basis is determined to be ϕ_{P}=(40.1±2.1_{stat}±0.7_{syst})°. From the first measurements of the dynamics of D_{s}^{+}→η^{(')}e^{+}ν_{e} decays, the products of the hadronic form factors f_{+}^{η^{(')}}(0) and the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element |V_{cs}| are determined with different form factor parametrizations. For the two-parameter series expansion, the results are f_{+}^{η}(0)|V_{cs}|=0.4455±0.0053_{stat}±0.0044_{syst} and f_{+}^{η^{'}}(0)|V_{cs}|=0.477±0.049_{stat}±0.011_{syst}.

Abstract
Objective: To explore postoperative delirium (POD)risk factors for geriatric patients who suffered hip fracture under the care of orthogeriatric unit mode. Methods: Patients aged 65 years or older, who were admitted to the orthogeriatric unit in Beijing Jishuitan Hospital from April to October 2017 for hip fracture surgery, were eligible for this prospective cohort study. After univariable analysis, significant risk factors associated with POD were further evaluated with multivariable analysis, to establish independent risk factors associated with POD. Results: A total of 203 patients with an average age of 80(65-96)years were enrolled in the study. The overall incidence of POD was 9.4%(19/203)in which hyperactive and hypoactive type accounting for 84.2%(16/19)and 15.8%(3/19), respectively. Significant difference was found between POD and non-POD groups in patients' age (P=0.003), albumin(P=0.006), TSH(P=0.018), PaCO(2) level(P=0.003), visual analogue scale (VAS )both at rest (P=0.013)and movement(P=0.010) on post-operative day 1.The further Logistic stepwise regression analysis showed that significant differences existed between groups in age(P=0.027), albumin(P=0.003), PaCO(2)(P=0.014)and VAS at rest(P=0.002). Conclusion: The independent risk factors of POD in geriatric patients undergoing hip fracture under the orthogeriatric unit mode include patients' age, pre-operative albumin as well as PaCO(2) level and post-operative VAS at rest.

Evidence of a Resonant Structure in the e^{+}e^{-}→π^{+}D^{0}D^{*-} Cross Section between 4.05 and 4.60 GeV. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2019; 122:102002. Abstract
The cross section of the process e^{+}e^{-}→π^{+}D^{0}D^{*-} for center-of-mass energies from 4.05 to 4.60 GeV is measured precisely using data samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. Two enhancements are clearly visible in the cross section around 4.23 and 4.40 GeV. Using several models to describe the dressed cross section yields stable parameters for the first enhancement, which has a mass of 4228.6±4.1±6.3 MeV/c^{2} and a width of 77.0±6.8±6.3 MeV, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones are systematic. Our resonant mass is consistent with previous observations of the Y(4220) state and the theoretical prediction of a DD[over ¯]_{1}(2420) molecule. This result is the first observation of Y(4220) associated with an open-charm final state. Fits with three resonance functions with additional Y(4260), Y(4320), Y(4360), ψ(4415), or a new resonance do not show significant contributions from either of these resonances. The second enhancement is not from a single known resonance. It could contain contributions from ψ(4415) and other resonances, and a detailed amplitude analysis is required to better understand this enhancement.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Vaccination of cancer patients with p53-expressing modified vaccinia Ankara virus (p53MVA) has shown in our previous studies to activate p53-reactive T cells in peripheral blood but without immediate clinical benefit. We hypothesized that the immunological responses to p53MVA vaccine may require additional immune checkpoint blockade to achieve clinically beneficial levels. We therefore conducted a phase I trial evaluating the combination of p53MVA and pembrolizumab (anti-PD-1) in patients with advanced solid tumors. PATIENTS AND METHODS Eleven patients with advanced breast, pancreatic, hepatocellular, or head and neck cancer received up to 3 triweekly vaccines in combination with pembrolizumab given concurrently and thereafter, alone at 3-week intervals until disease progression. The patients were assessed for toxicity and clinical response. Correlative studies analyzed p53-reactive T cells and profile of immune function gene expression. RESULTS We observed clinical responses in 3/11 patients who remained with stable disease for 30, 32, and 49 weeks. Two of these patients showed increased frequencies and persistence of p53-reactive CD8+ T cells and elevation of expression of multiple immune response genes. Borderline or undetectable p53-specific T cell responses in 7/11 patients were related to no immediate clinical benefit. The first study patient had a grade 5 fatal myocarditis. After the study was amended for enhanced cardiac monitoring, no additional cardiac toxicities were noted. CONCLUSION We have shown that the combination of p53MVA vaccine with pembrolizumab is feasible, safe, and may offer clinical benefit in select group of patients that should be identified through further studies.
