Abstract
In mice, CI-930 0.5-2 mg.kg-1 ip not only prolonged the tail bleeding time but also protected the mice from sudden thromboembolic death induced by arachidonic acid (AA, 100 mg.kg-1, i.v.) or TXA2/PGH2 mimetic U46619 (200 micrograms.kg-1, i.v.). CI-930 0.625 and 2.5 mg.kg-1 i.v. exhibited a dose-dependent inhibitory effect on thrombus formation in rat arteriovenous shunt. All these effects of CI-930 were more potent than those of dazoxiben, a known antiplatelet drug. In rabbit, AA 0.75 mg.kg-1 i.v. caused a rapid and marked increase in pulmonary vascular resistance and a concomitant sharp decrease in cardiac output and carotid arterial pressure. CI-930 itself 0.5 mg.kg-1 i.v. resulted in a long-lasting fall in carotid arterial pressure, systemic vascular resistance, and a slight decrease in cardiac output. In addition, CI-930 protected rabbit from all the harmful hemodynamic responses to the occlusion of pulmonary microcirculation, which was induced by AA. The results suggest that CI-930 possess a potent anti-hemostatic, antithrombotic, and probably antihypertensive effects on experimental animals.

Abstract
The effects of econazole and clotrimazole which are used as antifungal agents, on TXB2 and PGE2 production in calcimycin (A-23187)-stimulated rat pleural neutrophils and arachidonic acid (AA)-stimulated washing rabbit platelets were examined by radioimmunoassay. Econazole and clotrimazole 0.05-100 mumol.L-1 inhibited TXB2 production both in rat pleural neutrophils and in rabbit platelets with a dose-dependent manner. The most potent inhibition was found in rabbit platelets. At the concentration of 50 mumol.L-1, econazole and clotrimazole were sufficient to inhibit TXB2 production in rabbit platelets by up to 99% and 98% respectively. Econazole and clotrimazole 0.05-5 mumol.L-1 also increased PGE2 biosynthesis in rabbit platelets. But econazole and clotrimazole 50 mumol.L-1 reduced the PGE2 production in rabbit platelets to 11% and 37% of the amounts of 5 mumol.L-1 econazole and clotrimazole respectively. The results suggest that econazole and clotrimazole at lower concentration may have a selective inhibitory effect on thromboxane synthetase, at higher concentration they also inhibit cyclooxygenase.

Abstract
A testimony procedure of forensic psychiatry containing of the following steps as: "to set-up the medical diagnosis-to clarify the criminal motive-to determine the property of criminal legal ability damage-to evaluate the criminal responsibility" is recommended, and upon them "to clarify the criminal motive" is of importance. The property of criminal legal ability damage can be determined through the criminal motive and then the degree of criminal responsibility can be evaluated objectively through the criminal motive and criminal legal ability effected by the disease.

Abstract
In the platelet-rich plasma of rabbits, 4,5-dihydro-6-[4-(1H-imidazol-1-yl)phenyl]-5-methyl-3(2H)-pyridazinone (CI-930) inhibited platelet aggregation triggered by AA, U-46619, ADP, collagen and PAF, with the IC50 values of 0.91, 0.73, 2.12, 2.35 and 7.15 mumols/L, respectively. The inhibitory effect of CI-930 on AA-induced aggregation was potentiated by PGE1, an adenylate cyclase activator, and antagonized by SQ-22536, an adenylate cyclase inhibitor. The contents of cAMP in washed rabbit platelets were increased by CI-930 5-50 mumols/L. In the concentration range of 0.5-500 mumols/L, CI-930 reduced the synthesis of TXB2 by either washed rat or rabbit platelets or rat pleural neutrophils. At the same time, CI-930 induced a dose-dependent increase of PGE2, PGF2a, and PGD2 biosynthesis by rat platelets and had no significant influence on the formation of 6-keto-PGF1a by the neutrophils. It is showed that CI-930 is an anti-platelet agent with a wide-spectrum activity and its anti-aggregating action may be exerted by dual mechanisms, both increasing cAMP contents and selectively inhibiting TXA2 synthesis in platelets.

Abstract
The role of oxidized plasma lipoproteins in modifying arachidonic acid (AA) metabolism was studied in smooth muscle cells (SMC). Very low density lipoproteins (VLDL), unoxidized low density lipoproteins (LDLBHT) isolated with butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), and oxidized LDL (LDLOXID) were separated from human serum. Thiobarbituric acid reactant (TBAR) levels were adjusted by saline incubations. Prostanoids in guinea pig SMC cultures were measured either by radioimmunoassay (RIA) or the isolation by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) of labeled prostanoids from SMC prelabeled with [14C]AA. Cell morphology and viability were studied by staining with Giemsa, nile red, and propidium iodide. VLDL and LDLBHT had little effect on prostanoid synthesis. Low-TBAR-LDLOXID enhanced total prostanoid levels and diminished the release of labeled prostanoids. Similar effects were found with exogenous free AA (unlabeled). Low-TBAR-LDLOXID did not affect the release of endogenous phospholipid AA as free AA. Synergism occurred between LDLOXID and exogenous free AA in prostanoid synthesis. Low-TBAR-LDLOXID evidently enhanced prostanoid levels in SMC both by supplying AA and by stimulating cyclooxygenase. High-TBAR-LDLOXID blocked prostanoid synthesis and enhanced cell death but time and pulse-recovery experiments showed that these effects were unrelated. High-TBAR-LDLOXID stimulated prostanoid synthesis when BHT was added to the incubation media. High-TBAR-LDLOXID also caused massive free AA release and the formation of many nonprostanoid derivatives. High-TBAR-LDLOXID evidently diminished overall prostanoid levels in SMC by inhibiting cyclooxygenase and at the same time stimulating AA release and the formation of other AA derivatives.

Abstract
Low density lipoproteins (LDL), isolated by ultracentrifugal flotation, were oxidized (LDLOXID) slowly during dialysis against 0.15 M NaCl and subsequent incubation in 96% air-4% CO2 at 37 degrees C. Butylated hydroxytoluene prevented LDL oxidation. LDL preparations from different sera were oxidized at different rates and the degree of lipid peroxidation was controlled by varying the incubation time. Mild oxidation did not alter the electrophoretic mobility of the LDLOXID preparations. LDLOXID contained lipid peroxides in neutral lipids, had increased amounts of lysophosphatidylcholine, and contained a number of complex oxidation products that were generated from the oxidation of free fatty acids. These oxidation products included large amounts of soluble material that cross-reacted with antibodies to PGE2 but not 6-keto-PGF1 alpha. The amount of cross-reacting material was proportional to the degree of lipid peroxidation. Cross-reacting material in LDLOXID preparations was evidently formed from the oxidation of free fatty acids released from LDL, since cross-reacting material was also formed when a synthetic fat emulsion was oxidized in the presence of free arachidonic acid.

Abstract
The effect of selenium deficiency on the chronic toxicity of adriamycin was examined in rats fed diets adequate in vitamin E. Selenium-deficient and selenium-supplemented diets were fed to rats for 10 wk, after which groups of 10 rats fed each diet were given weekly intravenous injections of adriamycin in saline at doses of 0, 0.5 or 1.0 mg/kg body weight for 12 wk. All rats were killed at 24 wk. Even though the cardiac glutathione peroxidase activity in the selenium-deficient group was less than 1% of that of the selenium-supplemented group, the severity of the adriamycin-induced cardiomyopathy was similar in both groups. However, the selenium-deficient rats were more sensitive to the growth-inhibiting effect of the higher dose of adriamycin than the selenium-supplemented rats. Moreover, the lower dose of adriamycin caused a mild nephropathy in 70% of the deficient rats but affected only 10% of the supplemented rats. Selenium status may have to be considered when adriamycin is used as a chemotherapeutic agent.
