A new synthesis route to nanocrystalline olivine phosphates and their electrochemical properties

LiFePO4 nanoparticles were synthesized in various polyol mediums without any further heating. The LiFePO4 samples synthesized in polyol mediums exhibited average sizes of 20, 20, 50, and 50 nm with orthorhombic-like shapes. The XRD patterns were indexed on the basis of an olivine structure (space group : Pnma) except for the sample prepared in EG polyol medium. The LiFePO4 samples prepared in EG, DEG, TEG, and TrEG polyol mediums show the reversible capacity of 120 mA h/g, 144 mA h/g, 159 mA h/g, and 167 mA h/g at current density of 0.1 mA/cm2 with no capacity fading and excellent cycle retentions during extended cycles. Especially, the samples showed the excellent performances at high rate of 30 C and 60 C with high capacity retention. It is a speculation that nanometer size materials (approximately 50 nm) and a uniform size-distribution with highly crystallined phase may affect the excellent performances at high rate current densities.

A polyol-mediated synthesis of titania-based nanoparticles and their electrochemical properties

Ti-based nanoparticles were prepared in polyol mediums of EG (ethylene glycol) and TEG (triethylene glycol), with heating treatment. Ti-based materials of dried power and heated samples showed average sizes of 4, 10, 3, and 8 nm with spherical shapes and monodispersed state, respectively. The XRD patterns of TiO2 and Li4Ti5O12 materials of dried powder and heated samples were indexed to anatase phase TiO2 (space group: I4(1)/amd) and the spinel phase (space group: Fd3m) except for the dried powder sample of Li4Ti5O12, which was corresponded with amorphous-like characteristics from the X-ray diffraction and electron diffraction pattern of Field emission-TEM analysis. The TiO2 and Li4Ti5O12 samples after heat-treated at 500 degrees C exhibited excellent high rate capabilities at a current density of 0.4 mA/cm2 during extended cycles due to their electrochemically beneficial highly crystalline characteristics, nano-sized (approximately 10 nm), and uniform distributions state.

Attentional distractibility by optokinetic stimulation in Alzheimer disease

OBJECTIVE

Unilateral temporoparietal injury may result in an attentional deficit for stimuli presented in contralesional space. Thus, bilateral temporoparietal degeneration associated with Alzheimer disease (AD) might result in a bilateral attentional disturbance. Tests for hemispatial neglect, however, primarily assess spatial attentional asymmetries, and a bilateral attentional disorder might not be detected with these tests. The goal of this study was to learn whether optokinetic stimulation (OKS) would perturb the balanced attentional deficits of AD patients and alter their spatial allocation of attention.

METHODS

In Experiment I, 10 AD patients with bilateral temporoparietal glucose hypometabolism on PET and 10 controls bisected lines in two conditions: stationary solid lines superimposed on a moving background and "striped lines" where the whole line was stationary but the stripes within the line moved. The background OKS or the stripes within the line moved leftward or rightward or were stationary. In Experiment II, to investigate whether the influence of background movements would increase with AD severity, we conducted a similar experiment in 56 patients with various stages of AD.

RESULTS

In Experiment I, the line bisection errors (LBEs) of AD subjects, but not of the controls, were markedly influenced by both background and within line stripe motions, deviations occurring in the same direction of movement. In Experiment II, LBEs also occurred in the same direction as background movement and increased with dementia severity.

CONCLUSIONS

These results demonstrate that patients with Alzheimer disease are spatially distracted by moving stimuli.

Myocardial bridging is related to endothelial dysfunction but not to plaque as assessed by intracoronary ultrasound

BACKGROUND

Myocardial bridge (MB) is characterised by focal compression of a coronary artery in systole by an overlying band of myocardium. Chronic compression and relaxation of the MB may produce endothelial dysfunction by direct stress.

OBJECTIVE

To determine whether MB alters endothelial function, thus influencing the plaque formation.

METHODS

128 patients (mean (SD) age 54.7 (10.9) years, 56 men) with typical angiographic systolic milking effects and >30% reduction in diameter of the coronary artery during systole after intracoronary nitrate (glyceryl trinitrate, 200 mug) infusion were studied. 231 control patients (mean (SD) age 52.9 (12.1) years, 111 men) without overt coronary artery disease including MB were also studied. Endothelial function was estimated by incremental acetylcholine (Ach) infusion into the left coronary ostium. Intracoronary ultrasound assessments were obtained in 74/128 patients with MB and 81/231 controls.

RESULTS

The mean (SD) vasoconstrictive response to maximal Ach was more pronounced at the bridging segments than at matched segments in controls (-71.9 (14.9) vs -30.3 (22.6), p = 0.009). Coronary vasoconstriction (>50%) to Ach was seen more often in the MB group than in controls (114/128 (89.1%) vs 81/231 (35.1%), p = 0.007). No significant correlation was found between the severity of MB and vasoconstriction in response to Ach. A typical half-moon phenomenon was seen in 71/74 (95.9%) cases of the MB group, but not in controls (p<0.001). Plaques at the bridging segments were absent in 67/74 (90.5%) and mild in 7/74 (9.5%) cases, as compared with those of matched segments of the left anterior descending coronary artery in controls (plaque burden 5.91 (1.37)% vs 24.71 (24.21)%, p = 0.002).

CONCLUSION

Despite the prominent relationship between MB and endothelial dysfunction, bridging segments are spared from atherosclerotic plaque formation.

Specificity and sensitivity of eubacterial primers utilized for molecular profiling of bacteria within complex microbial ecosystems

Efficient profiling of eubacterial diversity within complex communities requires that primers are specific for eubacterial 16S rRNA. Specificity of published primers against eubacterial and archaeal 16S rRNA as well as protozoal and fungal 18S rRNA was assessed in silico. The specificity and sensitivity of the V3 and V6-V8 (F968gc and R1401) Denaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis (DGGE) primers was subsequently verified using rumen-derived samples. An assessment of the effects of employing touchdown PCR cycling conditions was also made. For DGGE profiling of eubacteria within rumen samples, primers F968gc and R1401 proved the most specific and sensitive providing that touchdown PCR is not used.

Production of mesons and baryons at high rapidity and high p(T) in proton-proton collisions at square root[s] = 200 GeV

We present particle spectra for charged hadrons pi(+/-), K(+/-), p, and p[over] from pp collisions at square root[s] = 200 GeV measured for the first time at forward rapidities (2.95 and 3.3). The kinematics of these measurements are skewed in a way that probes the small momentum fraction in one of the protons and large fractions in the other. Large proton to pion ratios are observed at values of transverse momentum that extend up to 4 GeV/c, where protons have momenta up to 35 GeV. Next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations describe the production of pions and kaons well at these rapidities, but fail to account for the large proton yields and small p[over]/p ratios.

Impaired expression of Toll-like receptor 2 in nontuberculous mycobacterial lung disease

The aims of the present study were to investigate the expression of Toll-like receptor (TLR)2 on the peripheral blood monocytes of patients with nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) lung disease and healthy controls, and to assess the responses of these monocytes to TLR2 agonists such as Mycobacterium avium and lipoteichoic acid (LTA). Reverse transcriptase-PCR was used to analyse TLR2 mRNA expression in peripheral blood monocytes from 17 NTM patients and 10 healthy controls. mRNA and protein secretion levels were also determined for the cytokines interleukin (IL)-12 p40 and tumour necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha. Expression of TLR2 mRNA by peripheral blood monocytes after stimulation with M. avium or LTA was lower in NTM patients than in healthy controls. IL-12 p40 and TNF-alpha mRNA and cytokine secretion levels were also lower in patients than in healthy controls. Treatment with anti-TLR antibody decreased M. avium- and LTA-induced IL-12 p40 and TNF-alpha production in healthy controls, but not in NTM patients. The present results suggest that the downregulation of Toll-like receptor 2 and the resulting decreased production of interleukin-12 p40 and tumour necrosis factor-alpha following Mycobacterium avium or lipoteichoic acid stimulation may contribute to host susceptibility to nontuberculous mycobacterial lung disease.

Dominant limb motor impersistence associated with callosal disconnection

Motor impersistence occurs more frequently after right than left hemispheric lesions. Following a callosal lesion, motor impersistence may thus occur more frequently in the right (dominant) than left limb. After an infarction involving the right medial frontal lobe and corpus callosum, a 66-year-old right-handed man demonstrated right limb motor impersistence on bedside evaluation, which was substantiated experimentally. Results demonstrated hemispatial effects with greater impersistence in the neglected (right) space.

Relationship between blood pressure parameters and pulse wave velocity in normotensive and hypertensive subjects: invasive study

Blood pressure (BP) is one of the most important contributing factors to pulse wave velocity (PWV), a classic measure of arterial stiffness. Although there have been many non-invasive studies to show the relation between arterial stiffness and BP, the results are controversial. The aim of this study is to evaluate the role of BP as an influencing factor on PWV using invasive method. We observed 174 normotensive and untreated hypertensive subjects using coronary angiography. Arterial stiffness was assessed through aorto-femoral PWV by foot-to-foot velocity method using fluid-filled system. And BP was measured by pressure wave at the right common femoral artery. From univariate analysis, age, diabetes mellitus (DM), hypertension, waist, waist-to-hip ratio, total cholesterol-to-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio, systolic BP (SBP), pulse pressure (PP) and mean arterial pressure (MAP) showed significant association with PWV. To avoid multiple colinearity among SBP, PP and MAP, we performed multiple regression analysis predicting PWV thrice. Age, DM and each BP were significantly and consistently correlated to PWV. In the first and third modules, compared to age, SBP and MAP were less strong predictors, respectively. However, PP was the stronger predictor than age and DM in the second module. Lastly, we simultaneously forced MAP and PP with other variables in the fourth multivariate analysis. Age, DM and PP remained significantly correlated with PWV, but the significance of MAP was lost. This is the first invasive study to suggest that PP has the strongest correlation with PWV among a variety of BP parameters.

Deafferentation-disconnection neglect induced by posterior cerebral artery infarction

OBJECTIVE

To investigate patients with posterior cerebral artery (PCA) infarctions to learn whether hemispatial neglect is more frequent and severe after right than left PCA infarction; whether visual field defects (VFDs) influence the presence or severity of hemispatial neglect; and the anatomic loci of lesions that are associated with hemispatial neglect.

METHODS

The authors recruited 45 patients with PCA infarction that involved only the occipital lobe or the occipital lobe plus other areas served by the PCA. All subjects received seven neglect tests within 2 months after onset.

RESULTS

Overall, the frequency of hemispatial neglect was 42.2%. The frequency did not significantly differ between the right (48.0%) and left (35.0%) PCA groups, but the severity of hemispatial neglect was significantly greater in the right group. VFD alone did not influence the frequency or severity of neglect after controlling other variables. Isolated occipital lesions were rarely associated with hemispatial neglect, and it was only the occipital plus splenial lesion that significantly influenced the frequency and severity of neglect.

CONCLUSIONS

This study suggests that after excluding such confounding factors as aphasia or hemiplegia, neglect frequency does not differ between the right and left posterior cerebral artery (PCA) groups, but the severity of neglect is greater after right PCA infarctions; even in the acute stage of PCA infarction; visual field defect from an isolated occipital lesion does not cause hemispatial neglect; and the injury to both the occipital lobe and the splenium of the corpus callosum is important for producing hemispatial neglect with PCA infarction.

Pattern of glucose hypometabolism in frontotemporal dementia with motor neuron disease

Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) often coexists with motor neuron disease (MND). To characterize glucose hypometabolism in patients with FTD with MND (FTD/MND), the authors compared the glucose metabolism of 8 patients with FTD/MND with that of 29 patients with FTD. All of the patients with FTD/MND showed glucose hypometabolism only in the frontal area, whereas most patients with FTD had hypometabolism in the frontal and temporal areas. FTD/MND also showed a more symmetric pattern of glucose hypometabolism than FTD.

Correlation of ventricular asymmetry with metabolic asymmetry in frontotemporal dementia

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

The clinical presentation of frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is often asymmetrical in terms of both its clinical features and atrophy on MRI. Asymmetry in the lateral ventricle size on structural neuroimaging in FTD patients may have clinical significance. However, this has not been systematically investigated yet. This study compares the ventricular asymmetry seen on MRI with that of the asymmetric glucose metabolism using FDG-PET in patients with FTD.

METHODS

Nineteen FTD patients who underwent both brain MRI and FDG-PET were retrospectively selected. As control groups, 23 and 11 age and sex-matched healthy normal subjects underwent either brain MRI or FDG-PET, respectively. The ventricular asymmetry index (VAI) was obtained in two ways: by visual rating (VAI-V) and by measuring the lateral ventricular volumes (VAI-ROI). The hemispheric asymmetry of the glucose metabolism on FDG-PET (MAI) was assessed in three ways: 1) by visual rating (MAI-V), 2) by counting the FDG activity of each hemisphere on normalized and smoothed PET images (MAI-ROI) and 3) by counting the number of voxels with significant hypometabolism based on statistical parametric mapping results (MAI-SPM).

RESULTS

The VAIs on MRI (VAI-V and VAI-ROI) were highly correlated, as were the MAIs (MAI-V, MAI-ROI, and MAI-SPM) on FDG-PET. More importantly, the VAIs on MRI and the MAIs on FDG-PET showed high correlation.

CONCLUSIONS

Ventricular asymmetry in FTD patients was common (78.9%) and there was a high correlation between the ventricular structural asymmetry and the hemispheric metabolic asymmetry. Therefore, it would be reasonable to interpret that the hemisphere with larger ventricle on MRI in FTD patients is undergoing a more active degenerative process.

Fatty Acid Profiles Associated with Microbial Colonization of Freshly Ingested Grass and Rumen Biohydrogenation

Two in situ studies were conducted to examine the use of odd-chain fatty acid profiles to study microbial colonization of freshly ingested herbage in the rumen as well as fatty acid biohydrogenation. In the first study, fresh perennial ryegrass was subjected to a range of sample preparation methods before incubation in the rumen for 2 or 7 h. In the second study, fresh perennial ryegrass was chopped into 1-cm lengths and incubated in polyester bags in the rumen for 2, 8, and 24 h. After removal of bags from the rumen, 4 different washing methods, ranging from manual squeezing to machine washing, were applied. Fatty acids were extracted from washed residues and determined, as methyl esters, by gas chromatography. The main odd-chain fatty acids (with the exception of anteiso C(15:0)) were not found in fresh grass and were useful markers of the effects of incubation time, sample preparation method, and washing method on microbial colonization/contamination. The concentration of these and other odd-chain fatty acids increased with incubation time in both studies. The results indicate rapid and continued microbial colonization of freshly ingested forages, although patterns of odd-chain fatty acids did not reveal any further information about the types of bacteria-colonizing herbage. Principal component, biplot analysis provided a useful overall description of the processes of microbial colonization and degradation of plant fatty acids on fresh herbage incubated in the rumen. Bolus formation during mastication and ingestion results in extensive damage to herbage; none of the techniques (cutting, crushing, and drying/grinding) investigated in this work was able to replicate the effects of bolus formation in the animal. The study provided further evidence of loss of unfermented feed particles through polyester bag pores, especially when feeds are dried and ground. Biohydrogenation of the polyunsaturated fatty acids of fresh herbage was used principally by solid-associated bacteria to enable them to take up high levels of trans-11 C(18:1) and C(18:0) fatty acids. Although trans-11 C(18:1) was strongly associated with bacterial markers (odd- and branched-chain fatty acids), its precursor (cis-9, trans-11 C(18:2)) was not associated with bacterial variation, suggesting that its production in the rumen under these conditions was mainly extracellular.

The metastasis associated protein S100A4: role in tumour progression and metastasis

The metastasis associated protein S100A4 is a small calcium binding protein that is associated with metastatic tumors and appears to be a molecular marker for clinical prognosis. Below we discuss its biochemical properties and possible cellular functions in metastasis including cell motility, invasion, apoptosis, angiogenesis and differentiation.

Glucose metabolism in early onset versus late onset Alzheimer's disease: an SPM analysis of 120 patients

The aims of this cross-sectional study were (i) to compare the overall glucose metabolism between early onset and late onset Alzheimer's disease in a large sample of patients; and (ii) to investigate the pattern of glucose metabolism as a function of dementia severity in early onset versus late onset Alzheimer's disease, using a statistical parametric mapping (SPM) analysis. Subjects consisted of four groups: 74 patients with early onset Alzheimer's disease, 46 patients with late onset of the disease, and two control groups age matched to each patient group. All the subjects underwent 2-[(18)F]fluoro-2-deoxy-d-glucose (FDG)-PET under the same scanning conditions. Severity of dementia was rated with the Clincial Dementia Rating (CDR). Voxel-based SPM99 was used for statistical analyses. Overall glucose hypometabolism of early onset Alzheimer's disease patients was much greater in magnitude and extent than that of late onset patients, though both groups were similar in dementia severity: the early onset group showed more severe hypometabolism in parietal, frontal and subcortical (basal ganglia and thalamus) areas. When the decline of glucose metabolism was compared as a function of CDR stage, the slope was steeper in early onset than in late onset Alzheimer's disease. The rapid decline occurred at CDR 0.5-1 in the early onset group, whereas similar changes occurred at CDR 2-3 in the late onset group. The greater hypometabolism in early onset than in late onset patients is required to reach the same severity of dementia, probably reflecting greater functional reserve in younger than in older subjects. Alternatively, the metabolic decline curve suggests that the early onset patients may take a more rapid course in the reduction of glucose metabolism than the late onset patients.

Charged meson rapidity distributions in central Au+Au collisions at square root(sNN) = 200 GeV

We have measured rapidity densities dN/dy of pi+/- and K+/- over a broad rapidity range (-0.1 < y < 3.5) for central Au + Au collisions at square root(sNN) = 200 GeV. These data have significant implications for the chemistry and dynamics of the dense system that is initially created in the collisions. The full phase-space yields are 1660 +/- 15 +/- 133 (pi+), 1683 +/- 16 +/- 135 (pi-), 286 +/- 5 +/- 23 (K+), and 242 +/- 4 +/- 19 (K-). The systematics of the strange to nonstrange meson ratios are found to track the variation of the baryochemical potential with rapidity and energy. Landau-Carruthers hydrodynamics is found to describe the bulk transport of the pions in the longitudinal direction.

Centrality dependence of charged-particle pseudorapidity distributions from d + Au collisions at sqrt[sNN] = 200 GeV

Charged-particle pseudorapidity densities are presented for the d + Au reaction at sqrt[s(NN)] = 200 GeV with -4.2 < or = eta < or = 4.2. The results, from the BRAHMS experiment at BNL Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider, are shown for minimum-bias events and 0%-30%, 30%-60%, and 60%-80% centrality classes. Models incorporating both soft physics and hard, perturbative QCD-based scattering physics agree well with the experimental results. The data do not support predictions based on strong-coupling, semiclassical QCD. In the deuteron-fragmentation region the central 200 GeV data show behavior similar to full-overlap d+Au results at sqrt[s(NN)] = 19.4 GeV.

The role of ERK1/2 activation in the infection of HeLa cells with Human coxsackievirus B3

Human coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3) is known to trigger in host cells a biphasic activation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK1/2); i.e., early transient and late sustained activation. In this study, we explored (i) the role of ERK1/2 activation in virus entry into cells and virus replication and (ii) cellular genes influenced by this activation in CVB3-infected HeLa cells. Pretreatment of the cells with an ERK1/2 inhibitor, PD98059 showed that early transient ERK1/2 activation is not be related to virus entry, but late sustained ERK1/2 activation plays a role in virus replication. To identify which cellular genes are influenced by the ERK1/2 activation after virus infection, a cDNA microarray analysis was performed. In HeLa cells pretreated with PD98059 and then infected with the virus, the number of influenced cellular genes was higher compared to that in infected cells not pretreated with the inhibitor (15 vs 77 at 10 mins post infection (p.i.) and 347 vs 91 at 9 hrs p.i. Thus the virus infection affected several host genes through ERK1/2 activation.

Phylogenetic analysis of protozoa in the rumen contents of cow based on the 18S rDNA sequences

AIMS

To examine the diversity of protozoa in the rumen contents of cow.

METHODS AND RESULTS

Protozoa that inhabit the rumen were detected by PCR using protozoan-specific primers. Libraries of protozoan rDNA sequences were constructed from rumen fluid, solid tissues and epithelium. Twenty-three clones isolated from rumen fluid fell into two genera identified as Entodinium (69.6% of clones) and Epidinium (31.4% of clones). Of the clones isolated from rumen fluid, a moderate number were unidentifiable (30.4%).

CONCLUSIONS

The predominant protozoan genus identified in the whole rumen belonged to the Entodinium group (81.1%). Protozoa were not detected in the rumen epithelium.

SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY

These findings suggest that rumen fluid and solid tissues contain different protozoan populations that may play specific roles in rumen function. Quantitative PCR techniques and a more specific set of phylogenetic probes that distinguish between protozoan species are needed to determine the significance of newly identified groups and to determine the distribution of identified protozoan clusters in rumen microbial communities.

Evolution of the nuclear modification factors with rapidity and centrality in d + Au collisions at (sqrt)[N(S)N]=200 GeV

We report on a study of the transverse momentum dependence of nuclear modification factors R(dAu) for charged hadrons produced in deuteron + gold collisions at sqrt[s(NN)]=200 GeV, as a function of collision centrality and of the pseudorapidity (eta=0, 1, 2.2, 3.2) of the produced hadrons. We find a significant and systematic decrease of R(dAu) with increasing rapidity. The midrapidity enhancement and the forward rapidity suppression are more pronounced in central collisions relative to peripheral collisions. These results are relevant to the study of the possible onset of gluon saturation at energies reached at BNL RHIC.

Nuclear stopping in Au+Au collisions at square root of S(NN)=200 GeV

Transverse momentum spectra and rapidity densities, dN/dy, of protons, antiprotons, and net protons (p-p) from central (0%-5%) Au+Au collisions at square root of S(NN)=200 GeV were measured with the BRAHMS experiment within the rapidity range 0</=y</=3. The proton and antiproton dN/dy decrease from midrapidity to y=3. The net-proton yield is roughly constant for y<1 at dN/dy approximately 7, and increases to dN/dy approximately 12 at y approximately 3. The data show that collisions at this energy exhibit a high degree of transparency and that the linear scaling of rapidity loss with rapidity observed at lower energies is broken. The energy loss per participant nucleon is estimated to be 73+/-6 GeV.

Cloning and characterization of ce/8A gene from Rhizobium leguminosarum bv. trifolii 1536

AIMS

To isolate the cellulase gene from Rhizobium leguminosarum bv. trifolii 1536.

METHODS AND RESULTS

By the shot-gun method a clone (cel8A) harbouring 3.1 kb genomic DNA fragment from R. leguminosarum bv. trifolii 1536 was obtained. The cel8A gene coded 348 amino acids and it belongs to the glycosyl hydrolase family 8. The molecular mass of Cel8A protein induced from Escherichia coli DH5alpha, appeared to be 35 kDa. The optimum pH and optimum temperature was 7.0, and about 30 degrees C for its enzymatic activity respectively.

CONCLUSIONS

R. leguminosarum bv. trifolii 1536 had cel8A gene having an open reading frame of 1047 bp coded for the activity of hydrolyzation of carboxymethyl cellulose.

SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY

The production of celluloytic enzyme by R. leguminosarum bv. trifolii was confirmed, which would play specific roles in rhizobia. Future study should focus on its role in the infection and nodulation phenomena.

Bioequivalence of pravastatin tablet formulations assessed in Korean males

AIM

Determination of the bioequivalence of 2 pravastatin tablet formulations manufactured in Korea.

PATIENTS AND METHODS

Twenty-three healthy male Korean volunteers received each of the 2 pravastatin formulations at a dose of 20 mg in a 2 x 2 crossover study. There was a 1-week washout period between doses. Plasma concentrations of pravastatin were monitored using high-performance liquid chromatography over a period of 8 hours after administration. AUC(0-8h) (the area under the plasma concentration-time curve from time zero to the last measured time in plasma, 8 h) was calculated using the linear-log trapezoidal method. Cmax (maximum plasma drug concentration) and tmax (time to reach Cmax) were compiled from the plasma concentration-time data. Analysis of variance was carried out using logarithmically transformed AUC(0-8h) and Cmax and untransformed tmax.

RESULTS

The point estimates and 90% confidence intervals for AUC(0-8h) (parametric) and Cmax (parametric) were 1.067 (0.968 to approximately 1.176) and 1.074 (0.999 to approximately 1.155), respectively, satisfying the bioequivalence criteria of the European Committee for Proprietary Medicinal Products and the US Food and Drug Administration guidelines. The corresponding value of tmax was 0.000 (-0.250 to approximately 0.250).

CONCLUSION

These results indicate that the 2 medications of pravastatin are bioequivalent and, thus, may be prescribed interchangeably.
