Abstract
In this work, pyrazine (A), aminopyrazine (B), quinoxaline (C), and 5,6,7,8-tetrahydroquinoxaline (D) have been screened out among a large number of pyrazine derivatives to construct Hofmann-type metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) Fe(L)[M(CN)4 ] (M=Pt, Pd) with similar 3D pillared-layer structures. X-ray single-crystal diffraction reveals that the alternate linkage between M and FeII ions through cyano bridges forms the 2D extended metal cyanide sheets, and ligands A-D acted as vertical columns to connect the 2D sheets to give 3D pillared-layer structures. Subsequently, a series of bivariate MOFs were constructed by pairwise combination of the four ligands A-D, which were confirmed by 1 H NMR, PXRD, FTIR, and Raman spectroscopy. The results demonstrated that ligand size and crystallization rate play a dominant role in constructing bivariate Hofmann-type MOFs. More importantly, the spin-crossover (SCO) properties of the bivariate MOFs can be finely tuned by adjusting the proportion of the two pillared ligands in the 3D Hofmann-type structures. Remarkably, the spin transition temperatures, Tc ↑ and Tc ↓ of Fe(A)x (B)1-x [Pt(CN)4 ] (x=0 to 1) can be adjusted from 239 to 254 K and from 248 to 284 K, respectively. Meanwhile, the width of the hysteresis loops can be widened from 9 to 30 K. Changing Pt to Pd, the hysteresis loops of Fe(A)x (B)1-x [Pd(CN)4 ] can be tuned from 9 (Tc ↑=215 K, Tc ↓=206 K) to 24 K (Tc ↑=300 K, Tc ↓=276 K). This research provides wider implications in the development of advanced bistable materials, especially in precisely regulating SCO properties.

Abstract
The metal-organic framework [Fe(ta)2] (Hta = 1H-1,2,3-triazole) containing Fe(II) ions and 1,2,3-triazolate ligands shows a reversible phase transition while retaining the cubic crystal symmetry and space group Fd3m (no. 227). The phase transition between room temperature (RT-[Fe(ta)2]; a = 16.6315(2) Å, V = 4600.39(8) Å3) and high temperature (HT-[Fe(ta)2]; a = 17.7566(4) Å, V = 5598.6(1) Å3) phases occurs at a temperature above 290 °C, whereas the phase transition between HT- and RT-[Fe(ta)2] starts at a temperature below 210 °C. Both [Fe(ta)2] polymorphs have identical bond topologies, but they differ by a large increase of the unit cell's volume of 22% for HT-[Fe(ta)2]. The compounds are characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, and thermogravimetric analyses. Additionally, Mössbauer spectroscopy, magnetic studies, and the electronic structure of both phases are discussed in detail with respect to the spin-crossover transition from the low-spin (RT-[Fe(ta)2]) to the high-spin phase (HT-[Fe(ta)2]).

Abstract
Multistep spin crossover (SCO) compounds have attracted much attention, since they can be great candidates for high-density multinary memory devices. The introduction of substituents, such as methyl (Me), chloro (Cl), bromo (Br), and methoxy (MeO) groups, at para positions to the phenyl-substituted tripodal N6 ligand-coordinated SCO FeII material, [FeLPh](NTf2)2 [where LPh = tris(2-{[(1-phenyl-1H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)methylidene]amino}ethyl)amine and NTf2 = bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide], affords a new family of solvent-free FeII complexes: [FeL4-R-Ph](NTf2)2 {where L4-R-Ph = tris[2-({[1-(4-R-phenyl)-1H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl]methylidene}amino)ethyl]amine, where R = Me (1), Cl (2), Br (3), and MeO (4)}. 1 shows temperature invariant high-spin (HS) state, whereas the others show spin transitions with different characteristics, such as half-SCO (4), two-step SCO (3), and unusual three-step SCO with hysteresis (2). Mössbauer and X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) spectroscopic studies of them support the magnetic susceptibilities results. Density functional theory calculations indicate that the electronic effect of different substituents on magnetic properties is negligible in this FeII family. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies reveal that 1-4 has a similar packing arrangement with three-dimensional supramolecular network via intermolecular π-π and CH···π interactions between complex cations, and CH···X (X = O, N, and F) hydrogen bonding interactions between cations and inherently frustrated NTf2 anions. Variable-temperature structural studies unveil a variety of stepped SCO behaviors of 2-4 and deactivation of SCO in 1 are governed by the regulation of ordering of NTf2 counteranions through the subtle modification of terminal substituents of complex cations. Quantitative light-induced excited spin-state trapping (LIESST) effect was observed for 2-4 via green light irradiation (532 nm) at 10 K. This study opens up a new way for systematic control of magnetic response from no SCO to half-, two-step, and finally three-step SCO with hysteresis by precise tuning of the ordering of flexible NTf2 anions included in the supramolecular network with potentially SCO-active complex cations.

Abstract
Luminescent oligo(p-phenylene ethynylene) (OPE) and spin-crossover (SCO) active Fe(II)-2,6-di(pyrazol-1-yl) pyridine (BPP) systems are prominent examples proposed to develop functional materials such as molecular wires/memories. A marriage between OPE and Fe(II)-BPP systems is a strategy to obtain supramolecular luminescent ligands capable of metal coordination useful to produce novel spin-switchable hybrids with synergistic coupling between spin-state of Fe(II) and a physical property associated with the OPE skeleton, for example, electronic conductivity or luminescence. To begin in this direction, two novel ditopic ligands, namely L1 and L2, featuring OPE-type backbone end-capped with metal coordinating BPP were designed and synthetized. The ligand L2 tailored with 2-ethylhexyloxy chains at the 2 and 5 positions of the OPE skeleton shows modulated optical properties and improved solubility in common organic solvents relative to the parent ligand L1. Solution phase complexation of L1 and L2 with Fe(BF4)2·6H2O resulted in the formation of insoluble materials of the composition [Fe(L1)] n (BF4)2n and [Fe(L2)] n (BF4)2n as inferred from elemental analyses. Complex [Fe(L1)] n (BF4)2n underwent thermal SCO centred at T 1/2 = 275 K as well as photoinduced low-spin to high-spin transition with the existence of the metastable high-spin state up to 52 K. On the other hand, complex [Fe(L2)] n (BF4)2n , tethered with 2-ethylhexyloxy groups, showed gradual and half-complete SCO with 50% of the Fe(II)-centres permanently blocked in the high-spin state due to intermolecular steric interactions. The small angle x-ray scattering (SAXS) pattern of the as-prepared solid complex [Fe(L1)] n (BF4)2n revealed the presence of nm-sized crystallites implying a possible methodology towards the template-free synthesis of functional-SCO nanostructures.

Abstract
We report for the first time the discovery of reversible n-p conduction type switching in a chalcogenide, NaCu5S3, without structural transition. AC impedance and first-principles simulations of the ionic migration confirmed the local melting trends of the hexagonal copper lattice at high temperatures, which could result in superionic conductivity within NaCu5S3.

Abstract
Annealing [FeL2 ][BF4 ]2 ⋅2 H2 O (L=2,6-bis-[5-methyl-1H-pyrazol-3-yl]pyridine) affords an anhydrous material, which undergoes a spin transition at T1/2 =205 K with a 65 K thermal hysteresis loop. This occurs through a sequence of phase changes, which were monitored by powder diffraction in an earlier study. [CuL2 ][BF4 ]2 ⋅2 H2 O and [ZnL2 ][BF4 ]2 ⋅2 H2 O are not perfectly isostructural but, unlike the iron compound, they undergo single-crystal-to-single-crystal dehydration upon annealing. All the annealed compounds initially adopt the same tetragonal phase but undergo a phase change near room temperature upon re-cooling. The low-temperature phase of [CuL2 ][BF4 ]2 involves ordering of its Jahn-Teller distortion, to a monoclinic lattice with three unique cation sites. The zinc compound adopts a different, triclinic low-temperature phase with significant twisting of its coordination sphere, which unexpectedly becomes more pronounced as the crystal is cooled. Synchrotron powder diffraction data confirm that the structural changes in the anhydrous zinc complex are reproduced in the high-spin iron compound, before the onset of spin-crossover. This will contribute to the wide hysteresis in the spin transition of the iron complex. EPR spectra of copper-doped [Fe0.97 Cu0.03 L2 ][BF4 ]2 imply its low-spin phase contains two distinct cation environments in a 2:1 ratio.

Abstract
Three new iron(II) 1D coordination polymers with cooperative spin crossover behavior showing thermal hysteresis loops were synthesized using N2O2 Schiff base-like equatorial ligands and 4,4′-dipyridylethyne as a bridging, rigid axial linker. One of those iron(II) 1D coordination polymers showed a 73 K wide hysteresis below room temperature, which, upon solvent loss, decreased to a still remarkable 30 K wide hysteresis. Single crystal X-ray structures of two iron(II) coordination polymers and T-dependent powder XRD patterns are discussed to obtain insight into the structure property relationship of those materials.

Abstract
The first examples of azole-triazole Rat ligands, bidentate L4NMeIm(3-(1-methyl-1H-imidazol-4-yl)-5-phenyl-4-(p-tolyl)-4H-1,2,4-triazole) and L4SIm (4-(5-phenyl-4-(p-tolyl)-4H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)thiazole), have been prepared, by extension of the general synthesis used to access many examples of azine-triazoles. The tris-L FeII complexes of the azine-triazoles are consistently low spin (LS). As intended, these new azole-triazole ligands provide lower field strengths, resulting in high-spin (HS) [FeII(L4NMeIm)3](BF4)2 (1·4H2O) and spin crossover (SCO) active [FeII(L4SIm)3](BF4)2 (2·0.5H2O). Single-crystal structure determinations revealed that at 100 K 1·solvents is HS whereas 2·solvents is LS. Solid-state variable temperature magnetic studies of air-dried crystals showed that the methylimidazole-triazole complex 1·4H2O remains HS while the thiazole-triazole complex 2·0.5H2O undergoes a two-step gradual SCO (T1/2 approximately 275 and 350 K). Variable-temperature Evans method NMR studies of 2, in five different solvents (CD3NO2, CD3CN, CD3COCD3, CD2Cl2, and CDCl3) gave T1/2 values in a relatively narrow range, 214-259 K. These T1/2 values did not correlate with the solvent polarity index P' (R2 = 0.25) but did correlate with the solvent basicity parameter SB (R2 = 0.90). Variable-temperature UV-vis studies on a golden yellow CH3CN solution of 2, with monitoring of the d-d transition at 530 nm (ε = 39 L mol-1 cm-1 at 293 K) while the solution was heated from 253 to 303 K, showed that the high-spin fraction increased from 0.51 to 0.77. Cyclic voltammetry studies in CH3CN revealed a Fe(III)/Fe(II) redox process that was reversible for 1 and irreversible for 2, with significant tuning of the Epa value: the methylimidazole-triazole complex 1 is significantly easier to oxidize (0.46 V) than the thiazole-triazole complex 2 (0.68 V; both vs 0.01 M Ag/AgNO3).

Abstract
Bi-stable charge-neutral iron(ii) spin-crossover (SCO) complexes are a class of switchable molecular materials proposed for molecule-based switching and memory applications. In this study, we report on the SCO behavior of a series of iron(ii) complexes composed of rationally designed 2-(1H-pyrazol-1-yl)-6-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)pyridine (ptp) ligands. The powder forms of [Fe2+(R-ptp-)2]0 complexes tethered with less-bulky substituents-R = H (1), R = CH2OH (2), and R = COOCH3 (3; previously reported)-at the 4-position of the pyridine ring of the ptp skeleton showed abrupt and hysteretic SCO at or above room temperature (RT), whereas complex 5 featuring a bulky pyrene substituent showed incomplete and gradual SCO behavior. The role of intermolecular interactions, lattice solvent, and electronic nature of the chemical substituents (R) in tuning the SCO of the complexes is elucidated.

Abstract
Three new unique mononuclear iron(II) pincer complexes were synthesized using 1,2-bis(pyridin-2-ylethynyl)benzene as axially coordinating pincer ligand and N2O2 coordinating Schiff base-like equatorial ligands. Magnetic susceptibility measurements reveal that all three complexes remain in the high spin state throughout the entire temperature range investigated. Reasons for this are restraining sterical interactions revealed in the single crystal x-ray structure analysis and extended DFT-computational studies of one of the pincer complexes. Those interactions also lead to the formation of unexpected side products during the synthesis such as a complex with two ethanol molecules as axial ligand, whose x-ray structure was determined.

Iron(II) Spin Crossover Complex with the 1,2,3-Triazole-Containing Linear Pentadentate Schiff-Base Ligand and the MeCN Monodentate Ligand. CRYSTALS 2019. Abstract
A mononuclear iron(II) complex bearing the linear pentadentate N5 Schiff-base ligand containing two 1,2,3-triazole moieties and the MeCN monodentate ligand, [FeIIMeCN(L3-Me-3Ph)](BPh4)2·MeCN·H2O (1), have been prepared (L3-Me-3Ph = bis(N,N′-1-Phenyl-1H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl-methylideneaminopropyl)methylamine). Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements revealed an incomplete one-step spin crossover (SCO) from the room-temperature low-spin (LS, S = 0) state to a mixture of the LS and high-spin (HS, S = 2) species at the higher temperature of around 400 K upon first heating, which is irreversible on the consecutive cooling mode. The magnetic modulation at around 400 K was induced by the crystal-to-amorphous transformation accompanied by the loss of lattice MeCN solvent, which was evident from powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) studies and themogravimetry. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies showed that the complex is in the LS state (S = 0) between 296 and 387 K. In the crystal lattice, the complex-cations and B(1)Ph4− ions are alternately connected by intermolecular CH···π interactions between the methyl group of the MeCN ligand and phenyl groups of B(1)Ph4− ions, forming a 1D chain structure. The 1D chains are further connected by P4AE (parallel fourfold aryl embrace) interactions between two neighboring complex-cations, constructing a 2D extended structure. B(2)Ph4− ions and MeCN lattice solvents exist in the spaces of the 2D layer. DFT calculations verified that the 1,2,3-triazole-containing ligand L3-Me-3Ph gives a stronger ligand field around the octahedral coordination environment of the iron(II) ion than the analogous imidazole-containing ligand H2L2Me (= bis(N,N′-2-methylimidazol-4-yl-methylideneaminopropyl)methylamine) of the known compound [FeIIMeCN(H2L2Me)](BPh4)1.5·Cl0.5·0.5MeCN (2) reported by Matsumoto et al. (Nishi, K.; Fujinami, T.; Kitabayashi, A.; Matsumoto, N. Tetrameric spin crossover iron(II) complex constructed by imidazole⋯chloride hydrogen bonds. Inorg. Chem. Abstract
An amphiphilic iron(iii) complex with a tridentate Schiff-base ligand was prepared by condensation of a hexadecyloxy functionalised salycylaldehyde with a diamine followed by complexation with FeCl2 and anion methathesis with NaClO4. The complex shows spin crossover both in the solid state and solution. However in solution self-assembly and consequently aggregation of individual molecules form concentration dependent particles with sizes of 300 nm for higher concentrations, or 5 nm for lower concentrations. Aggregate formation was confirmed by NANO-flex 180° DLS Size, scan-rate dependent cyclic voltammetry and scanning electron microscopy. Molecular simulations were used to investigate the self-assembly of the complex in solution, including the role of residual water molecules. The simulations showed the self-assembly of reverse micelle-like structures when a small water cluster is inserted in solution, whereas no large aggregates formed in dehydrated environments. The perchlorate anions were found near the metal centres, stabilizing the aggregates around the water pool. Simulations of pre-assembled structures further showed the lack of stability of large aggregates in the absence of water. The larger aggregates promoted efficient communication between the iron(iii) centres and the compound displayed spin crossover in solution at around 220 K with a 10 K hysteresis window, as measured by NMR and SQUID magnetometry.

Abstract
In this paper, we report on the synthesis, crystal structure, and photomagnetic properties of the spin-crossover salt of formula [Fe(bpp)2](C6H4NO2)2·4H2O (1·4H2O) (bpp = 2,6-bis(pyrazol-3-yl)pyridine; C6H4NO2− = nicotinate anion). This compound exhibits a 3D supramolecular architecture built from hydrogen bonds between iron(II) complexes, nicotinate anions, and water molecules. As synthesized, the hydrated material is low-spin and desolvation triggers a low-spin (LS) to high-spin (HS) transformation. Anhydrous phase 1 undergoes a partial spin crossover (T1/2= 281 K) and a LS to HS photomagnetic conversion with a T(LIESST) value of 56 K.

Abstract
We present here a novel example of spin crossover phenomenon on a Fe(II) one-dimensional chain with unusual N5S coordination sphere. The [{Fe(tpc-OMe)(NCS)(μ-NCS)} n] (1) compound was prepared using the tridentate tpc-OMe ligand (tpc-OMe = tris(2-pyridyl)methoxymethane), FeCl2·4H2O, and the KSCN salt. Crystallographic investigations revealed that the Fe(II) ions are connected by a single bridging NCS- ligand (μ-κN:κS-SCN coordination mode) to afford a zigzag neutral chain running along the [010] direction, in which the thiocyanato bridging groups adopt a cis head-to-tail configuration. The (N5S) metal environment arises from one thiocyanato-κS and two thiocyanato-κN ligands and from three pyridine of the fac-tpc-OMe tripodal ligand. This compound presents a unique extension of Fe(II) binuclear complexes into linear chains built on similar tripodal ligands and bridging thiocyanate anions. Compound 1 shows a spin crossover (SCO) behavior which has been evidenced by magnetic, calorimetric, and structural investigations, revealing a sharp cooperative spin transition with a transition temperature of ca. 199 K. Temperature scan rate studies revealed a very narrow hysteresis loop (∼1 K wide). Photoswitching of this compound was also performed, evidencing a very fast relaxation process at low temperature. Among other factors, the linearity of the N-bound terminal thiocyanato ligand appears as the main structural characteristic at the origin of the presence of the SCO transition in compound 1 and in the two others Fe(II) previous systems involving thiocyanato-bridges and tripodal tris(2-pyridyl)methane ligands.

Abstract
Ambient temperature spin crossover with wide hysteresis has been achieved in 2D Hofmann-type materials, where removal of guest molecules optimises ligand–ligand interactions, resulting in increased cooperativity.
Molecule-based spin state switching materials that display ambient temperature transitions with accompanying wide thermal hysteresis offer an opportunity for electronic switching, data storage, and optical technologies but are rare in existence. Here, we present the first 2D Hofmann-type materials to exhibit the elusive combination of ambient temperature spin crossover with wide thermal hysteresis (ΔT = 50 and 65 K). Combined structural, magnetic, spectroscopic, and theoretical analyses show that the highly cooperative transition behaviours of these layered materials arise due to strong host–host interactions in their interdigitated lattices, which optimises long-range communication pathways. With the presence of water molecules in the interlayer pore space in the hydrated phases, competing host–host and host–guest interactions occur, whilst water removal dramatically increases the framework cooperativity, thus affording systematic insight into the structural features that favour optimal spin crossover properties.

Abstract
Bidirectional photoswitching of molecular materials under ambient condition is of significant importance. Herein, we present for the first time that a core-shell UCNP-SCO nanosphere (UCNP = upconversion nanophosphor, SCO = spin crossover), which was composed of a UCNP core (NaYF4: 20 mol % Yb3+, 1 mol % Er3+) and an SCO iron(II) shell ([Fe(H2Bpz)2(bipy-COOH)], H2Bpz = dihydrobis(1-pyrazolyl)borate, bipy-COOH = 4,4'-dicarboxy-2,2'-bipyridine), can be reversibly photoswitched between the high-spin and low-spin states at room temperature in the solid state, via alternating irradiation with near-infrared (λ = 980 nm) and ultraviolet (λ = 310 nm) light. What's more, this reversible spin-state switching was accompanied by a variation of fluorescent spectrum and dielectric constants. The strategy here, that is, integrating the SCO iron(II) complex into a UCNP-SCO nanosphere for molecular photoswitching, may open a new area in the development of photocontrolled molecular devices.

Abstract
The realization of spin-crossover (SCO)-based applications requires study of the spin-state switching characteristics of SCO complex molecules within nanostructured environments, especially on surfaces. Except for a very few cases, the SCO of a surface-bound thin molecular film is either quenched or heavily altered due to: (i) molecule-surface interactions and (ii) differing intermolecular interactions in films relative to the bulk. By fabricating SCO complexes on a weakly interacting surface, the interfacial quenching problem is tackled. However, engineering intermolecular interactions in thin SCO active films is rather difficult. Here, a molecular self-assembly strategy is proposed to fabricate thin spin-switchable surface-bound films with programmable intermolecular interactions. Molecular engineering of the parent complex system [Fe(H2 B(pz)2 )2 (bpy)] (pz = pyrazole, bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine) with a dodecyl (C12 ) alkyl chain yields a classical amphiphile-like functional and vacuum-sublimable charge-neutral FeII complex, [Fe(H2 B(pz)2 )2 (C12 -bpy)] (C12 -bpy = dodecyl[2,2'-bipyridine]-5-carboxylate). Both the bulk powder and 10 nm thin films sublimed onto either quartz glass or SiOx surfaces of the complex show comparable spin-state switching characteristics mediated by similar lamellar bilayer like self-assembly/molecular interactions. This unprecedented observation augurs well for the development of SCO-based applications, especially in molecular spintronics.

Abstract
A mononuclear iron(ii) complex, [FeII(L1Me)2](PF6)2 (1), and a related dinuclear one, [Fe(L2C2)2](PF6)4·5H2O·MeCN (2), were prepared, where L1Me is a tridentate N3 coordinating Schiff-base ligand, 1-methyl-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl-methylideneamino-2-ethylpyridine, and L2C2 is a dimeric form ligand of L1Me, 1,1'-(1,2-ethanediyl)bis-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl-methylideneamino-2-ethylpyridine, and their magnetostructural relationships were investigated. Mononuclear 1 shows a gradual one-step spin crossover (SCO) from the low-spin (LS) state (S = 0) at room temperature (RT) to the mostly high-spin (HS) state (S = 2) at 470 K spanning a temperature range of more than 170 K, while dinuclear 2 shows an anomalous two-step SCO with a gradual transition in a first step from the LS-LS state at RT to around 432 K and then an abrupt spin transition centred at 432 K with 11 K wide hysteresis in a second step (T1/2↑ = 437 K and T1/2↓ = 426 K) reaching the mostly HS-HS state. Single crystal X-ray structure analyses revealed that the iron(ii) centre of mononuclear 1 has an N6 octahedral coordination environment with two tridentate L1Me ligands, while the complex-cation of 2 has a dinuclear double helicate architecture as though a dimeric form of two complex-cations of 1 replaced their methyl group with a bridging ethylene chain. Both complexes have a cationic two-dimensional (2D) structure in which the 2D layer of mononuclear 1 is constructed of intermolecular CHN hydrogen bonds between adjacent complex-cations, while that of dinuclear 2 is constructed of both intermolecular π-π and CH/π interactions between neighboring helicates.

Abstract
Nowadays there is a high demand in specialized functional materials, for example, for applications as sensors in biomedicine. For the realization of such applications, nanostructures and the integration in a composite matrix are indispensable. Coordination polymers and networks, for example, with spin crossover properties, are a highly promising family of switchable materials in which the switching process can be triggered by various external stimuli. An overview over different strategies for the synthesis of nanoparticles of such systems is given. A special focus is set on the use of block copolymer micelles as templates for the synthesis of nanocomposites. The block copolymer defines the final size and shape of the nanoparticle core. Additionally it allows a further functionalization of the obtained nanoparticles by variation of the polymer blocks and an easy deposition of the composite material on surfaces.

Abstract
Two new mononuclear Fe(II) complexes, [Fe(2MeLpz)(NCX)2] (L = N,N'-dimethyl-N,N'-bis((pyrazin-2-yl)methyl)-1,2-ethanediamine and X = S (1), BH3 (2)), have been synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, magnetic, optical reflectivity, and photomagnetic measurements. They have similar FeN6 coordination environments offered by the tetradentate ligand with a cis-α conformation and two NCX- coligands in cis positions. However, 1 and 2 have different molecular arrangements and crystal packings, and are isolated in orthorhombic Pbnb and monoclinic C2/c space groups, respectively. 1 remains in a high spin state (S = 2) over all temperatures while 2 undergoes a spin transition around 168 K with a small thermal hysteresis of about 0.4 K (at a temperature scan rate of 1.3 K min-1). This phase transition, which can also be optically detected due to the associated marked change of the sample color, occurs between two structurally characterized phases, which exhibit Fe(II) complexes in their high spin and low spin states at high and low temperatures, respectively. The reversible photoswitching between these two states has also been confirmed at low temperatures using well separated wavelength irradiations.
