Abstract
Chiral exocylic vicinal diamines are biologically and chemically important compounds, but they are not easy to make. In this paper, an interesting aminative Umpolung cyclization process has been developed. Aromatic aldehydes 6 bearing an electrophilic chiral sulfinimine group underwent imine formation with 2,2-diphenylglycine (2), decarboxylation, and subsequent Umpolung cyclization, producing various trans-diamines 10 in 84-96% yields with high trans/cis ratios under very mild conditions. This work not only provides an efficient, clean, and mild method for the synthesis of chiral exocyclic vicinal diamines in one step but also represents a new application of aminative Umpolung strategy on intramolecular reactions.

Abstract
One of the most challenging questions in the Lewis base organocatalyst field is how to predict the most electrophilic carbon for the complexation of N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) and reactant. This study provides a valuable case for this issue. Multiple mechanisms (A, B, C, D, and E) for the intramolecular cyclization of aldimine catalyzed by NHC were investigated by using density functional theory (DFT). The computed results reveal that the NHC energetically prefers attacking the iminyl carbon (AIC mode, which is associated with mechanisms A and C) rather than attacking the olefin carbon (AOC mode, which is associated with mechanisms B and D) or attacking the carbonyl carbon (ACC mode, which is associated with mechanism E) of aldimine. The calculated results based on the different reaction models indicate that mechanism A (AIC mode), which is associated with the formation of the aza-Breslow intermediate, is the most favorable pathway. For mechanism A, there are five steps: (1) nucleophilic addition of NHC to the iminyl carbon of aldimine; (2) [1,2]-proton transfer to form an aza-Breslow intermediate; (3) intramolecular cyclization; (4) the other [1,2]-proton transfer; and (5) regeneration of NHC. The analyses of reactivity indexes have been applied to explain the chemoselectivity, and the general principles regarding the possible mechanisms would be useful for the rational design of NHC-catalyzed chemoselective reactions.

Abstract
The domino anionic fragmentation of 2-nitrophenyl-1,3-cyclohexanediones containing an electrophilic appendage such as aldehyde and epoxide is disclosed. This reaction, initiated by a series of nucleophiles, involves the generation of an intermediate hydroxylate followed by the regioselective formation and fragmentation of an intermediate lactolate into enolate. This strategy, devoid of any protecting group, enlarges the initial ring and provides an original access to decorated 9-membered lactones with a fused indole unit.

Abstract
An unexpected, catalyst-free, and base-free intramolecular cyclization of N-aryloxyacrylate aldimines, under thermal conditions leading to the synthesis of functionalized dihydrobenzoxazoles, is reported. The reaction features a unique rearrangement of vinylogous carbonates to vinylogous carbamates resulting in a new carbon-oxygen and carbon-nitrogen bond construction. The reaction tolerates a broad range of functional groups and the desired products are formed in moderate to good yields.

Abstract
Herein, an efficient route to amides from aldimines via aza-Breslow intermediates through aerobic oxidative carbene catalysis with LiCl as a cooperative Lewis acid is described. Many of the obtained N-heteroarylamides feature biological activity. Ambient air was used as the sole oxidant and source of oxygen in this catalytically oxidative amidation. This method allows for a broad substrate scope and mild conditions. The aza-Breslow intermediate derivative was isolated and its crystal structure confirmed.
