A novel ratiometric fluorescent probe for the detection of uric acid in human blood based on H2O2-mediated fluorescence quenching of gold/silver nanoclusters

Novel sonochemical synthesis of Fe3O4 nanospheres decorated on highly active reduced graphene oxide nanosheets for sensitive detection of uric acid in biological samples

In this study, a super-active Iron (II, III) oxide nanospheres (Fe₃O₄ NPs) decorated reduced graphene oxide (rGOS) nanocomposite was developed. Fe₃O₄ NPs were stabilized on rGOS through electrostatic interactions in the aqueous medium. This process involves an ultrasound assisted reduction reaction of the GOS. The as-synthesized Fe₃O₄ NPs@rGOS was characterized through the HRTEM, SEM, XRD, Raman, elemental mapping and EDX analysis. The Fe₃O₄ NPs@rGOS modified GCE was developed for the determination of biomarker. Uric acid is important biomarker based on gout and kidney stone with high adverse effect in human body. The results obtained showed that the modified electrode Fe₃O₄ NPs@rGOS shows good electrochemical reduction peak compared to bare electrode and control electrodes. The Fe₃O₄ NPs@rGOS modified sensor linear range 0.02-783.6 µM was observed with nanomolar LOD 0.12 nM. In addition, the modified Fe₃O₄ NPs@rGOS/GCE sensor has been applied to determination of uric acid concentration in urine and blood serum samples. Furthermore, advantages of the modified sensor are high stability, repeatability and reproducibility.

Uric acid supported one-pot solvothermal fabrication of rhombic-like Pt35Cu65 hollow nanocages for highly efficient and stable electrocatalysis

High activity and good durability of electrocatalysts are of significance in practical applications of fuel cells. Among them, multi-component metallic hollow nanocages/nanoframes show great potential as advanced catalysts because of their highly open structures, large surface area and good stability. Herein, we report a general uric acid-mediated solvothermal method for shape-controlled synthesis of rhombic-like Pt₃₅Cu₆₅ hollow nanocages (HNCs) with uric acid as co-reductant and co-structure-directing agent. Uric acid and cetyltrimethylammonium chloride (CTAC) played important roles in the hollow cages. The specific architectures showed remarkably enhanced catalytic properties towards glycerol oxidation reaction (GOR), ethylene glycol oxidation reaction (EGOR) and oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) with the enhanced specific activity, outperforming commercial Pt/C (20 wt%). This work provides a new avenue for rational design of novel bimetallic nanocatalysts with enhanced characters in energy storage and conversion.

Ultrasensitive detection of uric acid in serum of patients with gout by a new assay based on Pt@Ag nanoflowers

A ultrasensitive assay for the determination of uric acid (UA) based on Pt@Ag nanoflowers (Pt@Ag NFs) was constructed. H₂O₂ was formed by the reaction of uricase and UA and produced the hydroxyl radical (˙OH). The system was catalyzed by Pt@Ag NFs to change the color of 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) from colorless to blue, and the morphology and chemical properties of Pt@Ag NFs were characterized by transmission electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Under the optimized conditions, a linear relationship between the absorbance and UA concentration was in the range of 0.5–150 μM (R² = 0.995) with a limit of detection of 0.3 μM (S/N = 3). The method can be applied to detection of UA in actual samples with satisfactory results. The proposed assay was successfully applied to the detection of UA in human serum with recoveries over 96.8%. Thus, these results imply that the UA assay provides an effective tool in fast clinical analysis of gout.
