Ultrasound assisted combined molecularly imprinted polymer for selective extraction of nicotinamide in human urine and milk samples: Spectrophotometric determination and optimization study

Ultrasonically synthesis of Mn- and Cu- @ ZnS-NPs-AC based ultrasound assisted extraction procedure and validation of a spectrophotometric method for a rapid preconcentration of Allura Red AC (E129) in food and water samples

This study is devoted on Allura Red as food colorant preconcentration and determination in beverage, fruit juice and drink water samples is based on usage of Mn- and Cu- @ ZnS-NPs-AC as new sorbent for ultrasound-assisted-dispersive solid-phase microextraction (UA-DSPME) combined with ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometric based method (UV-Vis). Contribution of volume of eluent, pH, sorbent mass and sonication time on response following conduction of 28 experiments were optimized and investigated while their significantly justified according to p-value. Values of "Prob > F" less than 0.0500 is proportional with their significant influence on recovery of analyte. Under the optimum conditions 0.14 mL of THF; pH of 2.5; 8 mg of sorbent and 3 min sonication time guide and help achievement of limit of quantification (LOQ) and limit of detection (LOD) of 6.08 and 20.26 ng mL^-1, respectively. The accuracy of method was validated according to calculation of recovery following spiking 400 and 600 ng mL^-1 to blank solution and recovery as more reliable indication of accuracy 93.41 and 102.17% recoveries with RSD < 3.5%, which demonstrate the successful applicability of present method for real sample analysis. The maximum sorbent capacity was 50.0 mg g^-1 based on Langmuir isotherm as best model with high correlation coefficient. Combination of UA-DSPME and UV-Vis lead to higher sensitivity and lower cost for accurate and repeatable monitoring of Allura Red level in beverage, fruit juice and drink water samples with acceptable recovery and reasonable RSD%.

Sonochemical-solvothermal synthesis of guanine embedded copper based metal-organic framework (MOF) and its effect on oprD gene expression in clinical and standard strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa

The guanine incropped Cu based metal-organic framework (Guanine-Cu-MOF) was synthesized by facile one-step sonochemical method by simply mixing of 4-4, biphenyldicarboxylic, guanine and copper nitrate (Bio-Cu-H₂bpdc-Gu). The prepared guanine-MOF was characterized by using X-Ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) techniques. The morphology of prepared material was sponge-shaped which it was well documented, together with the presence of existing functional groups. The effect of prepared material on oprD Gene Expression was investigated in Clinical and Standard Strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PAO-1) and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of prepared samples against P. aeruginosa strains were determined through the broth micro-dilution method. The expression of oprD gene in strains affected by Cu-H₂bpdc-Gu was quantitatively investigated through real-time PCR. MIC of Bio-Cu-H₂bpdc-Gu was 400 μg/mL for the standard and clinical strains of P. aeruginosa, while, MBC of this compound was 700 μg/mL for standard strain and 800 μg/mL for clinical strains. The highest and the lowest rate of oprD gene expression were found to be 3.6 and 1.1 fold in the strains, respectively.

Comparison of conventional and ultrasonic method for dyeing of spunbond polyester nonwoven fabric

Nonwoven spunbonded polyester has wide applications for both household goods and home furnishings and their usage has continually been growing. Nowadays, coloration of nonwoven fabrics is performed using conventional methods. Conventional polyester dyeing is an energy-intensive process as the dyeing is carried out above 120 °C to obtain efficient diffusion of dye. Furthermore, these high temperatures may cause some harmful effects on delicate nonwoven structures. Ultrasound assisted textile dyeing is an alternative method of conventional dyeing of textile materials, providing energy saving by reduced process temperature and time, lower consumptions of auxiliaries with increased dyeing efficiency. This paper focuses on comparing the conventional (high temperature (HT) and carrier dyeing) and ultrasonic dyeing of nonwoven spunbonded polyester fabrics to investigate the effect of ultrasound energy on dyeing performance. Experimental results indicated that highest or comparable dyeing performance can be achieved with ultrasound dyeing at lower temperature (85 °C, 60 min.) without carrier as compared to carrier dyeing (100 °C, 60 min.) and HT dyeing (130 °C, 60 min.), providing an increase of dye depth depending on the dye concentration and basis weight of the fabric. It was evidently seen that highest basis weight of fabric (107 g/m²) used in this study exhibited greater color yield for each dye concentrations (K/S value of 4.90 at 0.2% dye concentration) as compared to conventional ones. The effect of ultrasound energy on reductive washing and fastness properties were also evaluated.

A simple approach for the sonochemical loading of Au, Ag and Pd nanoparticle on functionalized MWCNT and subsequent dispersion studies for removal of organic dyes: Artificial neural network and response surface methodology studies

In this study, the artificial neural network (ANN) and response surface methodology (RSM) based on central composite design (CCD) were applied for modeling and optimization of the simultaneous ultrasound-assisted removal of quinoline yellow (QY) and eosin B (EB). The MWCNT-NH₂ and its composites were prepared by sonochemistry method and characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) analysis's. Initial dyes concentrations, adsorbent mass, sonication time and pH contribution on QY and EB removal percentage were investigated by CCD and replication of experiments at conditions suggested by model has results which statistically are close to experimented data. The ultrasound irradiation is associated with raising mass transfer of process so that small amount of the adsorbent (0.025 g) is able to remove high percentage (88.00% and 91.00%) of QY and EB, respectively in short time (6.0 min) at pH = 6. Analysis of experimental data by conventional models is good indication of Langmuir efficiency for fitting and explanation of experimented data. The ANN based on the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm (LMA) combined of linear transfer function at output layer and tangent sigmoid transfer function at hidden layer with 20 hidden neurons supply best operation conditions for good prediction of adsorption data. Accurate and efficient artificial neural network was obtained by changing the number of neurons in the hidden layer, while data was divided into training, test and validation sets which contained 70, 15 and 15% of data points respectively. The Average absolute deviation (AAD)% of a collection of 128 data points for MWCNT-NH₂ and composites is 0.58%.for EB and 0.55 for YQ.

Green Strategies for Molecularly Imprinted Polymer Development

Molecular imprinting is a powerful technology to create artificial receptors within polymeric matrices. Although it was reported for the first time by Polyakov, eighty-four years ago, it remains, nowadays, a very challenging research area. Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) have been successfully used in several applications where selective binding is a requirement, such as immunoassays, affinity separation, sensors, and catalysis. Conventional methods used on MIP production still use large amounts of organic solvents which, allied with stricter legislation on the use and release of chemicals to the environment and the presence of impurities on final materials, will boost, in our opinion, the use of new cleaner synthetic strategies, in particular, with the application of the principles of green chemistry and engineering. Supercritical carbon dioxide, microwave, ionic liquids, and ultrasound technology are some of the green strategies which have already been applied in MIP production. These strategies can improve MIP properties, such as controlled morphology, homogeneity of the binding sites, and the absence of organic solvents. This review intends to give examples reported in literature on green approaches to MIP development, from nano- to micron-scale applications.

Morphological enhancement to CuO nanostructures by electron beam irradiation for biocompatibility and electrochemical performance

This paper reports the effect of electron beam irradiation on CuO thin films synthesized by the successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) method on copper foil for supercapacitor and biocompatibility application. Pristine and irradiated samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and electrochemical study. Pristine and irradiated CuO films were pure monoclinic phase, with uniform nanostructures over the whole copper foil. After irradiation, CuO samples had formed innovative nanostructures. Biocompatibility of pristine and irradiated CuO samples suggest that CuO sample is non-toxic and ecofriendly. The specific capacitance of pristine and irradiated CuO strongly depends on surface morphology, and CuO electrodes after irradiation showed superior performance than pristine CuO. The highest specific capacitance of the 20kGy irradiated CuO nanoflowers exceeded 511Fg^-1 at 10mVs^-1 in 1M KOH electrolyte. Irradiated CuO samples also showed lower ESR, and were superior to other report electrical energy storage materials.

Optimization of process parameters for determination of trace Hazardous dyes from industrial wastewaters based on nanostructures materials under ultrasound energy

In this study, ultrasound-assisted dispersive solid phase micro-extraction based on nanosorbent namely silver-zinc oxide nanoparticles loaded on activated carbon (Ag-ZnO-NP-AC) combined with derivative spectrophotometry method for the simultaneous pre-concentration and determination of Methyl Green (MG) and Rose Bengal (RB) dyes in water and industrial wastewater. Characterized sorbent by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), particle-size distribution (PSD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis with superior adsorption capacity was applied in ultrasound assisted dispersive-solid-phase micro-extraction (UA-DSPME) methodology. pH, sorbent mass, ultrasonication time, and eluent volume influence and contribution on response correspond to simultaneous pre-concentration and determination of MG and RB were optimized by response surface methodology (RSM) and results were compared with the experimental values. Under the optimal conditions (UA-DSPME), the enrichment factors (EFs) were 93.89 and 97.33 for the MG and RB dyes, respectively. The limits of detection were 2.14 and 2.73ngmL^-1 and the limit of quantification were 7.15 and 9.09ngmL^-1 for MG and RB, respectively. The analytes can be determined over 10-2000ngmL^-1 with recoveries between 90.8% to 97.7% and RSDs less than 3.6%. The developed method due to simplicity and rapidity is able successful for repeatable and accurate monitoring of under study analytes from complicated matrices.

Ultrasound assisted extraction of phenolic acids from broccoli vegetable and using sonochemistry for preparation of MOF-5 nanocubes: Comparative study based on micro-dilution broth and plate count method for synergism antibacterial effect

The aim of this work was comparison study of dilution and plating method for evaluation of the synergism effect of metal-organic framework nanocubes (MOF-5-NCs) and broccoli extract (Brassica oleracea) on antibacterial activity of standard and clinical Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains. For this purpose, sonochemical synthesis of MOF-5-NCs was performed and it was characterized using XRD, FT-IR, FESEM and EDS techniques. Maceration extraction (ME) and ultrasound assisted extraction (UAE) methods in three different solvents were prepared and applicability of their extracts were compared in some cases such as radical scavenging and antioxidant activity. The HPLC/UV analysis was applied for separation, identification and evaluation of phenolic acids in prepared broccoli extracts. Then, antimicrobial activity of MOF-5NCs and broccoli extract against gram-negative bacteria, Pseudomonas aeruginosa was evaluated by detection of minimal inhibition concentration (MIC), minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC) and zone of inhibition (ZOI). The results of in vitro assays showed that dilution method due to flase estimation of 4% viability percentage which is not logic by consideration of MBC well could not be able to estimate MBC. Therefore, plate count method was performed for precise calculation of MBC. MIC of broccoli extract and MOF-5-NCs on Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains were 7.81mgmL^-1 and 3.13mgmL^-1, respectively.

Preconcentration and ultra-trace determination of hexavalent chromium ions using tailor-made polymer nanoparticles coupled with graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry: ultrasonic assisted-dispersive solid-phase extraction

We describe ultrasonic assisted-dispersive solid-phase extraction based on tailor-made polymer (UA-DSPE-TMP) nanoparticles for selective extraction of Cr(vi) ions.

Facile fabrication of epoxy-TiO2 nanocomposites: A critical analysis of TiO2 impact on mechanical properties and toughening mechanisms

Optimized ultrasonic assisted dispersion of un-functionalized titanium dioxide (TiO₂) nanoparticles (0.5-20wt%) into epoxy resin is reported. The investigation shows that there is a direct relation among nanoparticles content, inter-particle spacing and cluster size of the particles on the glass transition temperature (T_g) and tensile properties of the prepared nanocomposites. A significant improvement in tensile strength and modulus with minimal detrimental effect on the toughness was observed for the prepared composites, where compared to pristine epoxy resins, about 26% and 18% improvement in tensile strength and strain-to-break %, respectively, was observed for 10wt% particles loading, whereas a maximum improvement of about 54% for tensile toughness was observed for 5wt% particles loaded resins. The investigations found that a strong particle-matrix interface results in the enhancement of the mechanical properties due to leading toughening mechanisms such as crack deflection, particle pull out and plastic deformation.

A multi-walled carbon nanotube-based magnetic molecularly imprinted polymer as a highly selective sorbent for ultrasonic-assisted dispersive solid-phase microextraction of sotalol in biological fluids

A modified multiwalled carbon nanotube-based magnetic molecularly imprinted polymer (MWCNT-MMIP) was synthesized and applied for selective extraction and preconcentration of sotalol (SOT) in biological fluid samples by using ultrasonic-assisted dispersive solid-phase microextraction (UA-DSPME).

Environmentally-friendly and ultrasonic-assisted preparation of two-dimensional ultrathin Ni/Co-NO3 layered double hydroxide nanosheet for micro solid-phase extraction of phenolic acids from fruit juices

In this paper, we report an environmentally-friendly and low cost synthetic approach for large-scale fabrication of 2-dimentional porous Ni/Co-NO₃-based layered double hydroxide (Ni/Co-NO₃-LDH) nanosheet through ultrasonic-assisted process. The synthesis procedure used ethylene glycol/water system as an eco-friendly solvent system. The synthesized LDH was characterized by FE-SEM, TEM, XRD, and FT-IR techniques. FE-SEM and TEM images showed porous structure surface morphology of the synthesized LDH. Also, For Ni/Co-NO₃-LDH, a hexagonal ultrathin layered was obtained owing to ultrasonic irradiation and applied processing conditions. The prepared LDH was used as sorbent in dispersive micro solid-phase extraction procedure. Two phenolic acids including p-hydroxybenzoic acid and p-coumaric acid were selected as model compounds. Some experimental factors affecting the extraction efficiency of the analytes were investigated and optimized. Finally, the sorbent was used for the extraction of model compound from fruit juice samples followed by high performance liquid chromatography. Linear dynamic range of 0.5-500µgL^-1 with a low detection limit (0.1µgL^-1) was obtained by the method. The relative standard deviations were 2.5 and 4.3% for p-hydroxybenzoic acid and p-coumaric acid, respectively. All recoveries were between 82 and 92%.

Comparison between dispersive solid-phase and dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction combined with spectrophotometric determination of malachite green in water samples based on ultrasound-assisted and preconcentration under multi-variable experimental design optimization

The ultrasound-assisted dispersive solid-phase microextraction (USA-DSPME) and the ultrasound-assisted dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (USA-DLLME) developed for as an ultra preconcentration and/or technique for the determination of malachite green (MG) in water samples. Central composite design based on analysis of variance and desirability function guide finding best operational conditions and represent dependency of response to variables viz. volume of extraction, eluent and disperser solvent, pH, adsorbent mass and ultrasonication time has significant influence on methods efficiency. Optimum conditions was set for USA-DSPME as: 1mg CNTs/Zn:ZnO@Ni₂P-NCs; 4min sonication time and 130μL eluent at pH 6.0. Meanwhile optimum point for USA-DLLME conditions were fixed at pH 6.0; 4min sonication time and 130, 650μL and 10mL of extraction solvent (CHCl₃), disperser solvent (ethanol) and sample volume, respectively. Under the above specified best operational conditions, the enrichment factors for the USA-DSPME and USA-DLLME were 88.89 and 147.30, respectively. The methods has linear response in the range of 20.0 to 4000.0ngmL^-1 with the correlation coefficients (r) between 0.9980 to 0.9995, while its reasonable detection limits viz. 1.386 to 2.348ngmL^-1 and good relative standard deviations varied from 1.1% to 2.8% (n=10) candidate this method for successful monitoring of analyte from various media. The relative recoveries of the MG dye from water samples at spiking level of 500ngmL^-1 were in the range between 94.50% and 98.86%. The proposed methods has been successfully applied to the analysis of the MG dye in water samples, and a satisfactory result was obtained.

Sono-assisted preparation of bio-nanocomposite for removal of Pb2+ ions: Study of morphology, thermal and wettability properties

Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) loaded poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) composites, with different CNT contents, were fabricated through an ultrasound assisted method as a fast and green way. Then, the obtained composites were fully characterized via FT-IR, UV-Vis, XRD, TGA, FE-SEM and TEM, etc. For this purpose, PET bottle was recycled and applied as matrix of nanocomposites (NC)s. Then, we dispersed the covalent functionalization of MWCNTs with a protein dispersant and obtained a powder of protein-functionalized CNTs. Bio-functionalized MWCNTs showed higher Pb²⁺ removal efficiency compared to MWCNT-COOH as ascertained via batch equilibrium adsorption experiments. Also, the results indicated the novel NCs presents a high affinity for Pb²⁺ heavy metal owing to the presence of several good sites. The contact angle results indicated that the addition of MWCNT-BSA increased significantly the contact angle compared to the pure PET. It was concluded that inflame retarding feature of NC was higher than pure polymer.

Design of a new technique based on combination of ultrasound waves via magnetite solid phase and cloud point microextraction for determination of Cr(III) ions

In this work, we focused on development of a new techniques by coupling of ultrasound irradiation, cloud point method and magnetite solid phase microextraction for the extraction and preconcentration of Cr(III) ions from aqueous solutions. In order to reduce cost and improve practicability of proposed process a new efficient and regenerable magnetite sorbent (functionalized chitosan grafted-amino graphene oxide (GO) decorated by zinc ferrite nanoparticles (CS-GO-Zn: Fe₂O₄)) was synthesized through hydrothermal method and then characterized by FT-IR, FE-SEM, EDS and XRD analysis. Effect of initial sample volume and type, volume and concentration of eluent on the ER%_Cr(III) were investigated and optimized using one at a time method. Correlation between the main and interaction effects of other operational parameters such as Cr(III) ion concentration, CS-GO-Zn: Fe₂O₄ mass, sonication time, pH and solution temperature on the ER%_Cr(III) were investigated and optimized by central composite design coupled with desirability function approach. The results revealed that there were significant effects for most investigated terms on the ER%_Cr(III) and maximum ER% of 88.09% was obtained in desirability value of 1.0. This maximum efficiency was obtained at 0.035µg/mL Cr(III) ion concentration, 40.16°C temperature, 0.016g of CS-GO-Zn: Fe₂O₄, pH 6.36 and 9.20min sonication time. In addition, under the optimal conditions the linear range, limit of detection, enrichment factor and relative standard deviation were found to be 0.02-4.4µg/mL, 0.002µg/mL, 23.23 and 1.68% respectively. Finally, the method was successfully applied to the separation and preconcentration of Cr(III) ion from tap, river and mineral waters.

Novel synthesis of nanocomposite for the extraction of Sildenafil Citrate (Viagra) from water and urine samples: Process screening and optimization

A sensitive analytical method is investigated to concentrate and determine trace level of Sildenafil Citrate (SLC) present in water and urine samples. The method is based on a sample treatment using dispersive solid-phase micro-extraction (DSPME) with laboratory-made Mn@ CuS/ZnS nanocomposite loaded on activated carbon (Mn@ CuS/ZnS-NCs-AC) as a sorbent for the target analyte. The efficiency was enhanced by ultrasound-assisted (UA) with dispersive nanocomposite solid-phase micro-extraction (UA-DNSPME). Four significant variables affecting SLC recovery like; pH, eluent volume, sonication time and adsorbent mass were selected by the Plackett-Burman design (PBD) experiments. These selected factors were optimized by the central composite design (CCD) to maximize extraction of SLC. The results exhibited that the optimum conditions for maximizing extraction of SLC were 6.0 pH, 300μL eluent (acetonitrile) volume, 10mg of adsorbent and 6min sonication time. Under optimized conditions, virtuous linearity of SLC was ranged from 30 to 4000ngmL^-1 with R² of 0.99. The limit of detection (LOD) was 2.50ngmL^-1 and the recoveries at two spiked levels were ranged from 97.37 to 103.21% with the relative standard deviation (RSD) less than 4.50% (n=15). The enhancement factor (EF) was 81.91. The results show that the combination UAE with DNSPME is a suitable method for the determination of SLC in water and urine samples.

Synthesis and application of magnetic deep eutectic solvents: Novel solvents for ultrasound assisted liquid-liquid microextraction of thiophene

Two novel magnetic deep eutectic solvents (MDESs), comprised of cheap and simple components named [choline chloride/phenol] [FeCl₄] and [choline chloride/ethylene glycol] [FeCl₄] were prepared and characterized by CHN elemental analysis, proton nuclear magnetic resonance (¹H NMR), vibrating sample magnetometery (VSM), Raman, Fourier transform-infrared (FT-IR) and UV-Vis spectrometery. The extraction efficiency of the prepared MDESs has been investigated in ultrasound assisted liquid-liquid microextraction based MDES (UALLME-MDES). Briefly, MDESs were added to n-heptan containing thiophene. Then, MDESs were dispersed in n-heptane by sonication. After that, microdroplets of MDESs were collected by a magnet and the remained concentration of thiophene in n-heptane phase was analyzed by GC-FID. The results indicated that [choline chloride/phenol] [FeCl₄] has higher extraction efficiency than [choline chloride/ethylene glycol] [FeCl₄]. This work opens a new way to the application of MDESs.

Influence of ultrasound-assisted extraction on the pyrolysis characteristics and kinetic parameters of eucalyptus

In this study, the influence of ultrasound-assisted extraction on eucalyptus samples with special focus on pyrolysis characteristics and kinetic parameters was explored. Ultrasound and Soxhlet extraction were used to pretreat samples respectively, then samples were assayed by component analysis, TG-FTIR, and kinetic analysis. Ultrasound-assisted extraction did change the physiochemical characteristics of eucalyptus samples, particularly in regards to the quantity of extractives obtained. In TG and DTG curves, ultrasound-extracted samples reflected lower residual weight ratio (17.77%) and higher maximum weight loss rate (-22.92%/min), and were accompanied by a slight shift in the weight loss rate peak to lower temperature (366°C). The volatiles produced during pyrolysis and the discrepancies of product distribution between experimental and controlled groups were explored based on TG-FTIR spectra. According to kinetic analysis results, ultrasound-treated samples showed higher activation energy at the primary portion of thermal degradation with an average of 206.09kJ/mol.

Cu@SnS/SnO2 nanoparticles as novel sorbent for dispersive micro solid phase extraction of atorvastatin in human plasma and urine samples by high-performance liquid chromatography with UV detection: Application of central composite design (CCD)

Separation and detection of residual drug in biological fluids has directly related to human health in term of their beneficial or side effects. In biological fluid samples (complex matrix which containing drug at very low level) conduction of preliminary efficient technique as good choice for pre-concentration and clean-up of real sample before their instrumental analysis is highly recommended. In this result technique, based on nano-structure material which poses higher available surface area and larger member of reactive sites led to significant improvement in characteristic performance of analytical method. This paper focused on the synthesis and application of novel nano-sorbent for pre-concentration and extraction of atorvastatin (AT) from different biological fluids. Influence of various variables including sorbent dosage, eluent volume and sonication time on present method response was studied and optimized by central composite design under response surface methodology and accordingly an acceptable calibration curves over wide linear ranges (0.3-2000μgL^-1) with high coefficient of determination higher than 0.999 strongly confirm high applicability of present method for quantification of analyte while limit of detection and quantification in plasma sample were 0.0608 and 0.2033μg L^-1, respectively.

Preparation, Characterization and Application of a Molecularly Imprinted Polymer for Selective Recognition of Sulpiride

A novel molecular imprinting polymer (MIP) was prepared by bulk polymerization using sulpiride as the template molecule, itaconic acid (ITA) as the functional monomer and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as the crosslinker. The formation of the MIP was determined as the molar ratio of sulpiride-ITA-EGDMA of 1:4:15 by single-factor experiments. The MIP showed good adsorption property with imprinting factor α of 5.36 and maximum adsorption capacity of 61.13 μmol/g, and was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and surface area analysis. With the structural analogs (amisulpride, tiapride, lidocaine and cisapride) and small molecules containing a mono-functional group (p-toluenesulfonamide, formamide and 1-methylpyrrolidine) as substrates, static adsorption, kinetic adsorption, and rebinding experiments were also performed to investigate the selective adsorption ability, kinetic characteristic, and recognition mechanism of the MIP. A serial study suggested that the highly selective recognition ability of the MIP mainly depended on binding sites provided by N-functional groups of amide and amine. Moreover, the MIP as solid-phase extractant was successfully applied to extraction of sulpiride from the mixed solution (consisted of p-toluenesulfonamide, sulfamethoxazole, sulfanilamide, p-nitroaniline, acetanilide and trimethoprim) and serum sample, and extraction recoveries ranged from 81.57% to 86.63%. The tentative tests of drug release in stimulated intestinal fluid (pH 6.8) demonstrated that the tablet with the MIP-sulpiride could obviously inhibit sulpiride release rate. Thus, ITA-based MIP is an efficient and promising alternative to solid-phase adsorbent for extraction of sulpiride and removal of interferences in biosample analysis, and could be used as a potential carrier for controlled drug release.

Optimization of ultrasonic circulating extraction of samara oil from Acer saccharum using combination of Plackett-Burman design and Box-Behnken design

In this study, ultrasonic circulating extraction (UCE) technique was firstly and successfully applied for extraction of samara oil from Acer saccharum. The extraction kinetics were fitted and described, and the extraction mechanism was discussed. Through comparison, n-hexane was selected as the extraction solvent, the influence of solvent type on the responses was detailedly interpreted based on the influence of their properties on the occurrence and intensity of cavitation. Seven parameters potentially influencing the extraction yield of samara oil and content of nervonic acid, including ultrasound irradiation time, ultrasound irradiation power, ultrasound temperature, liquid-solid ratio, soaking time, particle size and stirring rate, were screened through Plackett-Burman design to determine the significant variables. Then, three parameters performed statistically significant, including liquid-solid ratio, ultrasound irradiation time and ultrasound irradiation power, were further optimized using Box-Behnken design to predict optimum extraction conditions. Satisfactory yield of samara oil (11.72±0.38%) and content of nervonic acid (5.28±0.18%) were achieved using the optimal conditions. 1% proportion of ethanol in extraction solvent, 120°C of drying temperature and 6.4% moisture were selected and applied for effective extraction. There were no distinct differences in the physicochemical properties of samara oil obtained by UCE and Soxhlet extraction, and the samara oil obtained by UCE exhibited better antioxidant activities. Therefore, UCE method has enormous potential for efficient extraction of edible oil with high quality from plant materials.

The choice of ultrasound assisted extraction coupled with spectrophotometric for rapid determination of gallic acid in water samples: Central composite design for optimization of process variables

A sensitive procedure namely ultrasound-assisted (UA) coupled dispersive nano solid-phase microextraction spectrophotometry (DNSPME-UV-Vis) was designed for preconcentration and subsequent determination of gallic acid (GA) from water samples, while the detailed of composition and morphology and also purity and structure of this new sorbent was identified by techniques like field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) techniques. Among conventional parameters viz. pH, amount of sorbent, sonication time and volume of elution solvent based on Response Surface Methodology (RSM) and central composite design according to statistics based contour the best operational conditions was set at pH of 2.0; 1.5mg sorbent, 4.0min sonication and 150μL ethanol. Under these pre-qualified conditions the method has linear response over wide concentration range of 15-6000ngmL^-1 with a correlation coefficient of 0.9996. The good figure of merits like acceptable LOD (S/N=3) and LOQ (S/N=10) with numerical value of 2.923 and 9.744ngmL^-1, respectively and relative recovery between 95.54 and 100.02% show the applicability and efficiency of this method for real samples analysis with RSDs below 6.0%. Finally the method with good performance were used for monitoring under study analyte in various real samples like tap, river and mineral waters.

Selective extraction of proteins and other macromolecules from biological samples using molecular imprinted polymers

The accurate determination of intact macromolecules in biological samples, such as blood, plasma, serum, urine, tissue and feces is a challenging problem. The increased interest in macromolecules both as candidate drugs and as biomarkers for diagnostic purposes means that new method development approaches are needed. This review charts developments in the use of molecularly imprinted polymers first for small-molecular-mass compounds then for proteins and other macromolecules. Examples of the development of molecularly imprinted polymers for macromolecules are highlighted. The two main application areas to date are sensors and separation science, particularly SPE. Examples include peptides and polypeptides, lysozyme, hemoglobin, ovalbumin, bovine serum albumin and viruses.
