Abstract
Asymmetric carbene insertion reactions represent one of the most important protocols to construct carbon-heteroatom bonds. The use of donor-acceptor diazo compounds bearing an ester group is however a prerequisite for achieving high enantioselectivity. Herein, we report a chemo- and enantioselective formal N-H insertion of 2-pyridones that has been accomplished for the first time with enynones as the donor-donor carbene precursors. DFT calculations indicate an unprecedented enantioselective 1,4-proton transfer from O to C. The rhodium catalyst provides a chiral pocket in which the steric repulsion and the π-π interaction of the propeller ligand play a critical role in determining the selectivities.

Abstract
Controlling the reactivity of carbene intermediates is a key parameter in the development of selective carbene transfer reactions and is usually achieved by metal complexes via singlet metal-carbene intermediates. In this combined experimental and computational studies, we show that the reactivity of free diaryl carbenes can be controlled by the electronic properties of the substituents without the need of external additives. The introduction of electron-donating and -withdrawing groups results in a significant perturbation of singlet triplet energy splitting of the diaryl carbene intermediate and of activation energies of consecutive carbene transfer reactions. This strategy now overcomes a long-standing paradigm in the reactivity of diaryl carbenes and allows the realization of highly chemoselective carbene transfer reactions with alkynes. We could show that free diaryl carbenes can be readily accessed via photolysis of the corresponding diazo compounds and that these carbenes can undergo highly chemoselective cyclopropenation, cascade, or C-H functionalization reactions. Experimental and theoretical mechanistic analyses confirm the participation of different carbene spin states and rationalize for the observed reactivity.

Abstract
Donor/donor carbenes are relatively new in the field of carbene chemistry; although applications in C-H and X-H insertion reactions are few in number, they demonstrate exquisite chemo- and stereo-selectivity. Recent reports have shown that C-H, N-H, B-H, O-H, S-H, Si-H, Ge-H, Sn-H and P-H insertion reactions are feasible with a variety of transition metal catalysts, both inter- and intramolecularly. Furthermore, high degrees of diastereo- and enantioselectivity have been observed in several cases. Methods typically involve the formation of a diazo-based carbene precursor, but procedures using diazo-free metal carbenes have been developed with significant success. This Minireview covers transition-metal catalyzed insertion reactions with donor/donor and donor carbenes, providing context for future developments in this emerging field.

Abstract
Phosphonium ions are widely used in preparative organic synthesis and catalysis. The provision of new types of cations that contain both functional and chiral information is a major synthetic challenge and can open up new horizons in asymmetric cation-directed and Lewis acid catalysis. We discovered an efficient methodology towards new Si-chiral four-membered CPSSi* heterocyclic cations. Three synthetic approaches are presented. The stereochemical sequence of anchimerically assisted cation formation with B(C6 F5 )3 and subsequent hydride addition was fully elucidated and proceeds with excellent preservation of the chiral information at the stereogenic silicon atom. Also the mechanism of dihydrogen release from a protonated hydrosilane was studied in detail by the help of Si-centered chirality as stereochemical probe. Chemoselectivity switch (dihydrogen release vs. protodesilylation) can easily be achieved through slight modifications of the solvent. A matched/mismatched case was identified and the intermolecularity of this reaction supported by spectroscopic, kinetic, deuterium-labeling experiments, and quantum chemical calculations.

Abstract
A new one pot protocol has been developed for the reductive silylation of alkenyl methyl ethers using Et3Si–BPin and HSiEt3 with nickel(ii) catalyst. Styrene type methyl ethers, multi-substituted vinyl methyl ethers, heterocycles and unconjugated vinyl ethers are all tolerated to form alkyl silanes. Mechanistic study reveals that it is a cascade of a C–O bond silylation and vinyl double bond hydrogenation process. Internal nucleophilic substitution or oxidative addition pathways were both acceptable for C–O bond cleavage. The acquired intermediate alkenyl silanes then proceeded through an unconventional reduction process thus providing alkyl silanes. A Ni(ii)-catalyzed tandem reaction including vinyl C–O bond silylation and olefin hydrogenation has been developed providing structurally diversified alkyl silanes.![]()

Abstract
A metal-free C-H [5 + 1] annulation reaction of 2-arylanilines with diazo compounds has been achieved, giving rise to two types of prevalent phenanthridines via highly selective C-C cleavage. Compared to the simple N-H insertion manipulation of diazo, this method elegantly accomplishes a tandem N-H insertion/SEAr/C-C cleavage/aromatization reaction, and the synthetic utility of this new transformation is exemplified by the succinct syntheses of trisphaeridine and bicolorine alkaloids.

Abstract
A rhodium(I)-catalyzed enantioselective silylation of aliphatic C-H bonds for the synthesis of silicon-stereogenic dihydrobenzosiloles is demonstrated. This reaction involves a highly enantioselective intramolecular C(sp3 )-H silylation of dihydrosilanes, followed by a stereospecific intermolecular alkene hydrosilylation leading to the asymmetrically tetrasubstituted silanes. A wide range of dihydrosilanes and alkenes displaying various functional groups are compatible with this process, giving access to a variety of highly functionalized silicon-stereogenic dihydrobenzosiloles in good to excellent yields and enantioselectivities.
