Abstract
Due to the growing prevalence of cancer diseases, new therapeutic options are urgently needed, and drugs based on metal ions other than platinum are alternatives with exciting possibilities. We report the synthesis, characterization and biological effect of mixed-ligand Fe(III)-aminophenolate complexes derived from salicylaldehyde and L-tryptophan with quinoline derivatives as co-ligands, namely 8-hydroxyquinoline (8HQ), [Fe(L)(8HQ)(H2O)] (1) and its 5-cloro derivative (Cl8HQ), [Fe(L)(Cl8HQ)(H2O)] (2). The complex bearing the aminophenolate and lacking the quinoline co-ligand, [Fe(L)(Cl)(H2O)2] (3), was prepared for comparison. The analytical and spectroscopic characterization revealed that 1 and 2 are octahedral Fe(III) complexes with the aminophenolate acting as a dianionic tridentate ligand and 8HQ co-ligands as bidentate chelates. Spectroscopic techniques and molecular docking studies were used to evaluate the ability of these complexes to bind bovine serum albumin (BSA) and calf thymus DNA. Complex 2 [Fe(L)(Cl8HQ)(H2O)] was the one showing higher affinity for both biomolecules. Cell viability was assessed in breast, colorectal and bone human cancer cell lines. 1 and 2 were found to be more active than cisplatin in all cell lines tested. A non-tumoral fibroblast line (L929, mouse non-tumoral fibroblasts) was used to evaluate selectivity. The results evidence that 2 shows much higher selectivity than 1 in all cell lines tested, but particularly in bone cancer cells in which selectivity index (SI) values are 8.0 and 18.8 for 1 and 2, respectively.

Abstract
Three metal complexes [CuL(NO3)]n (1), [Cd(HL)(NO3)2]n (2) and [EuL(HCOOH)(H2O)(NO3)2] (3) were synthesized with a pyridyl Schiff ligand L (N'-[(1E)-pyridin-2-ylmethylidene]pyridine-4-carbohydrazide). A crystallographic study revealed that complexes 1 and 2 have a chain structure, and complex 3 is a zero-dimensional monomer. In vitro cytotoxicity studies showed that complex 2 had the best antiproliferative activity against SMMC-7721 cells and complex 3 had the best antiproliferative activity against MDA-MB-231 cells with single-digit IC50 values, both exceeding those of the control drug cisplatin by far. The cell invasion and migration ability through the transwell assay and wound-healing assay showed that the selected complexes could inhibit the invasion and migration of cancer cells. The Hoechst staining assay and ROS generation assay with SMMC-7721 cells indicated that the cytotoxic effects of complex 2 involved apoptosis induction through ROS accumulation. The apoptosis-inducing and cell cycle arrest effects of complex 2 on SMMC-7721 cells indicated that the antitumor effect was achieved through apoptosis induction and inhibition of DNA synthesis by blocking the G0/G1 phase of the cell cycle. In addition, complex 2 showed significant inhibition against B. dysentery with an inhibition circle diameter of 24 mm.

Abstract
AIMS Metal complexes have ignited considerable interest in the field of chemotherapy after the serendipitous discovery of cisplatin but the severe toxicity of these platinum-based drugs compelled researchers to search for newer, more effective lesser toxic anticancer drugs. MATERIALS AND METHODS Structural analysis is done by different physicochemical techniques including X-ray single crystallography. Toxicity study has been done in normal Swiss albino mice. MTT assay assessed cell viability. Apoptosis, cell cycle arrest, and cell proliferation were assessed by FACS using Annexin V-PI, PI, and CFSE staining respectively. Western blot quantifies protein expression. While cell migration was studied by wound healing assay. KEY FINDINGS One-pot synthesis of a novel mononuclear cobalt(III)-Schiff base complex (1) (>99 % purity) and its complete characterization have been done. Cell viability assay showed that 1 (IC50 = 16.81 ± 1.33 μM) exhibits cytotoxicity at much lower concentration in comparison to oxaliplatin (IC50 = 31.4 ± 0.69 μM) against MCF-7 cells for 24 h of therapy without being overly toxic to human PBMCs (IC50 ≥ 60 μM). Additional in vitro studies demonstrated that 1 induces apoptosis via G2-M cell cycle arrest and reduces cell proliferation as well as cell migration in MCF-7 cells. In vivo subacute toxicity (28 days) and systemic chronic toxicity (40 days) studies were carried out in normal Swiss albino mice showed 1 is significantly nontoxic to the host. SIGNIFICANCE The readily synthesizable, significantly nontoxic cobalt complex with appreciable anticancer activity implies that it might be an effective chemotherapeutic agent for new-age anti-tumor medication.

Abstract
Within the current challenges in medicinal chemistry, the development of new and better therapeutic agents effective against infectious diseases produced by bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites stands out. With chemotherapy as one of the main strategies against these diseases focusing on the administration of organic and inorganic drugs, the latter is generally based on the synergistic effect produced by the formation of metal complexes with biologically active organic compounds. In this sense, Schiff bases (SBs) represent and ideal ligand scaffold since they have demonstrated a broad spectrum of antitumor, antiviral, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory activities, among others. In addition, SBs are synthesized in an easy manner from one-step condensation reactions, being thus suitable for facile structural modifications, having the imine group as a coordination point found in most of their metal complexes, and promoting chelation when other donor atoms are three, four, or five bonds apart. However, despite the wide variety of metal complexes found in the literature using this type of ligands, only a handful of them include on their structures tridentate SBs ligands and their biological evaluation has been explored. Hence, this review summarizes the most important antimicrobial activity results reported this far for pincer-type complexes (main group and d-block) derived from SBs tridentate ligands.

Abstract
A group of bidentate nitrogen and sulfur donor pyrazole derivative ligands abbreviated as Na[RNCS(Pz)], Na[RNCS(PzMe2)], Na[RNCS(PzMe3)], Na[RNCS(PzPhMe)], Na[RNCS(PzPh2)], where (R = Et, Ph), and their Cu (II) complexes were synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic and physicochemical methods. The crystal structure of [Cu(PhNCSPzMe3)2] was determined by X-ray crystallography analysis and the results described a distorted square planar coordination geometry for this complex. Also, the cyclic voltammetry investigations indicated that the synthesized copper complex is an electrochemically active species. Moreover, the cytotoxic activity of all of the twenty synthesized compounds was evaluated using MTT assay against the MCF-7 (human breast carcinoma) cell lines, in vitro. Cu (II) complexes indicate significant cytotoxicity against the MCF-7 cell lines as compared with the free ligands. The docking studies showed that the copper complexes have better interactions with EGFR and CDK2 proteins, compared to the free ligands, and most of the studied compounds have a higher value of binding energy relative to the studied controls. The results of QSAR analysis suggest that dipole moment is in direct correlation with the obtained IC50 values, and it strongly impact the anticancer effects generated by the compounds. Our findings suggest that the developed copper complexes can be good candidates for further evaluations as chemotherapeutic agents in the treatment of cancer.

Abstract
Schiff bases represent an essential class in organic chemistry with antitumor, antiviral, antifungal, and antibacterial activities. The synthesis of Schiff bases requires the presence of an organic base as a catalyst such as piperidine. Base-free synthesis of organic compounds using a heterogeneous catalyst has recently attracted more interest due to the facile procedure, high yield, and reusability of the used catalyst. Herein, we present a comparative study to synthesize new Schiff bases containing indole moieties using piperidine as an organic base catalyst and Au@TiO2 as a heterogeneous catalyst. In both methods, the products were isolated in high yields and fully characterized using different spectral analysis techniques. The catalyst was reusable four times, and the activity was slightly decreased. The presence of Au increases the number of acidic sites of TiO2, resulting in C=O polarization. Yields of the prepared Schiff bases in the presence of Au@TiO2 and piperidine were comparable. However, Au@TiO2 is an easily separable and recyclable catalyst, which would facilitate the synthesis of organic compounds without applying any hazardous materials. Furthermore, the luminescence behavior of the synthesized Schiff bases exhibited spectral shape dependence on the substituent group. Interestingly, the compounds also displayed deep-blue fluorescence with Commission Internationale de l'Éclairage (CIE) coordinates of y < 0.1. Thus, these materials may contribute to decreasing the energy consumption of the emitting devices.

Abstract
Searching for adequate and effective compounds displaying antimicrobial activities, especially against Gram-positive bacteria, is an important research area due to the high hospitalization and mortality rates of these bacterial infections in both the human and veterinary fields. In this work, we explored (E)-4-amino-3-((3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-hydroxybenzylidene)amino) benzoic acid (SB-1, harboring an intramolecular hydrogen bond) and (E)-2-((4-nitrobenzilidene)amino)aniline (SB-2), two Schiff bases derivatives. Results demonstrated that SB-1 showed an antibacterial activity determined by the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) against Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, and Bacillus cereus (Gram-positive bacteria involved in human and animal diseases such as skin infections, pneumonia, diarrheal syndrome, and urinary tract infections, among others), which was similar to that shown by the classical antibiotic chloramphenicol. By contrast, this compound showed no effect against Gram-negative bacteria (Klebsiella pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, and Salmonella enterica). Furthermore, we provide a comprehensive physicochemical and theoretical characterization of SB-1 (as well as several analyses for SB-2), including elemental analysis, ESMS, 1H and 13C NMR (assigned by 1D and 2D techniques), DEPT, UV-Vis, FTIR, and cyclic voltammetry. We also performed a computational study through the DFT theory level, including geometry optimization, TD-DFT, NBO, and global and local reactivity analyses.

Abstract
Researchers are interested in Schiff bases and their metal complexes because they offer a wide range of applications. The chemistry of Schiff bases of heterocompounds has got a lot of attention because of the metal's ability to coordinate with Schiff base ligands. In the current study, a new bidentate Schiff base ligand, N-((1H-pyrrol-2-yl)methylene)-6-methoxypyridin-3-amine (MPM) has been synthesized by condensing 6-methoxypyridine-3-amine with pyrrole-2-carbaldehyde. Further, MPM is used to prepare Cu(II) and Co(II) metal complexes. Analytical and spectroscopic techniques are used for the structural elucidation of the synthesized compounds. Both MPM and its metal complexes were screened against Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae species for antimicrobial studies. Furthermore, these compounds were subjected to in silico studies against bacterial proteins to comprehend their best non-bonded interactions. The results confirmed that the Schiff base ligand show considerably higher binding affinity with good hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic interactions against various tested microbial species. These results were complemented with a report of the Conceptual DFT global reactivity descriptors of the studied compounds together with their biological scores and their ADMET computed parameters.

Abstract
Relying on a recently suggested protocol that furnishes convenient access to variously substituted 2-pyridyl ureas, twelve hitherto unknown Cu(II) complexes have been synthesized in the present work and their structures were evaluated by elemental analysis, HRMS, IR spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction study. Two structural motifs ([Cu(L)2Cl]+[Cl]− or (Cu(L)2Cl2) depending on the substitution pattern on the 2-pyridine fragment were revealed. In addition, antiproliferative action of the obtained compounds have been investigated against lung cancer cell lines (A549, NCI-H460, NCI-H1975), and healthy WI-26 VA4 cells were used to monitor non-specific cytotoxicity. Two nitro-group substituted complexes Cu(U3)2Cl2 (IC50 = 39.6 ± 4.5 μM) and Cu(U11)2Cl2 (IC50 = 33.4 ± 3.8 μM) demonstrate enhanced activity against the drug resistant NCI-H1975 cells with moderate selectivity toward normal WI-26 VA4 cells. The antiproliferative mechanism of cell death underlying the growth inhibitory effect of the synthesized complexes was studied via additional experiments, including the cell cycle analysis and the apoptosis induction test. Reassuringly, certain 2-pyridyl urea-based Cu(II) complexes exerted cell line-specific antiproliferative effect which renders them valuable starting points for further unveiling the anticancer potential of this class of coordination compounds.

Abstract
Two mononuclear coordination complexes of N-(2-aminophenyl)-2-(5-methyl-1H-pyrazol-3-yl)acetamide (L1), namely [Cd(L1)2Cl2] (C1) and [Cu(L1)2(C2H5OH)2](NO3)2 (C2) and one mononuclear complex [Fe(L2)2(H2O)2](NO3)2·2H2O (C3), obtained after in situ oxidation of L1, have been synthesized and characterized spectroscopically. As revealed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, each coordination sphere made of two heterocycles is completed either by two chloride anions (in C1), two ethanol molecules (in C2) or two water molecules (in C3). The crystal packing analysis of C1, C2 and C3, revealed 1D and 2D supramolecular architectures, respectively, via various hydrogen bonding interactions, which are discussed in detail. Furthermore, evaluation in vitro of the ligands and their metal complexes for their antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli (ATCC 4157), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 27853), Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 25923) and Streptococcus fasciens (ATCC 29212) strains of bacteria, revealed outstanding results compared to chloramphenicol, a well-known antibiotic, with a normalized minimum inhibitory concentration as low as 5 μg mL-1.

Abstract
Abstract
The rapid growth and revolution in the area of emerging therapeutics has been able to save the life of millions of patients globally. Besides these developments, the microbes are consistently struggling for their own survival and hence becoming quite more sturdy and incurable to existing drugs. Covid-19 virus and Black Fungus are recent examples of failure of medical preparations and strength of these viruses beyond the imagination of medical practitioners. Henceforth the study has made an extensive survey of exiting literature on heterocyclic schiff bases and their transition metal complexes to look for their potential applicability as antimicrobial agents. The inherent physiognomies of the essential properties of these transition metal complexes including thermodynamic, kinetic and chelating are comparatively modifiable as per requirements. The study has found that the biological applications of these transition metal complexes are well suited to be used as antibacterial and antifungal agents.

Abstract
Quinoxaline derivatives are well-known N-heterocycles with pharmacological and fluorescence activities. Almost all quinoxaline derivatives with extensive π-conjugation have been introduced as fluorophores which emit blue and green light. For the first time, we designed and synthesized 6-chloro-2,3 di(Pyridine-2yl) quinoxaline (2-CPQ) as a pink fluorophore in acetonitrile medium by simple route at room temperature whitin 30 min. The synthesized quinoxaline was identified using 1H, 13C NMR, MS, and FT-IR spectroscopy. Our results showed that the iodine-catalyzed method for both oxidation and cyclization during the synthesis of quinoxaline from pyridine 2-carbaldehyde was straightforward, efficient, and clean. All of the mentioned characterization devices confirmed the synthesis of 2-CPQ.Moreover, we studied the photophysical properties of the synthesized fluorophore in which The UV-Vis absorption spectrum of 2-CPQ in DMF were three peaks at 451, 518 and 556 nm. Based on photophysical properties investigation, 2-CPQ shows good fluorescence with maximum peaks 607 and 653 nm in DMF as solvent (фF = 0.21). Hence, the fluorophore was applied in the peroxyoxalate chemiluminescence system. The reaction of imidazole, H2O2, and bis (2,4,6-trichlorophenyl) oxalate (TCPO) can transfer energy to a 6-chloro-2,3 di(pyridine-2yl) quinoxaline. In this process, dioxetane was synthesized, which chemically initiated the electron exchange luminescence (CIEEL) mechanism and led to pink light emission. We anticipate our synthesized fluorophores 2-CPQ will have great potential applications in imaging and medical markers.

To meet the demand for alternatives to commonly used antibiotics, this paper evaluates the antimicrobial potential of arene-ruthenium(II) complexes and their salts, which may be of value in antibacterial treatment. Their antimicrobial activity (MIC, MBC/MFC) was examined in vitro against Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Enterococcus faecalis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus vulgaris and Candida albicans and compared with classic antibiotics used as therapeutics. Selected arene-ruthenium(II) complexes were found to have synergistic effects with oxacillin and vancomycin against staphylococci. Their bactericidal effect was found to be associated with cell lysis and the ability to cut microbial DNA. To confirm the safety of the tested arene-ruthenium(II) complexes in vivo, their cytotoxicity was also investigated against normal human foreskin fibroblasts (HFF-1). In addition, the antioxidant and thus pro-health potential of the compounds, i.e., their nonenzymatic antioxidant capacity (NEAC), was determined by two different methods: ferric-TPTZ complex and DPPH assay.

Abstract
The complex of Fe(II) ions of general formula [FeL2](BF4)2 with triphenylamine-hydrazone ligand L has been synthesized and characterized. Oxidative electropolymerization of the complex proceeded smoothly on the working electrode producing homogenous thin film of metallopolymer. The film thickness and morphology of the layer was investigated by microscopy techniques such as SEM and AFM, and the composition of the film was confirmed by XPS analysis. It was found that after fifty successive oxidation/reduction cycles the film of thickness 120 nm was formed on the electrode surface. The metallopolymer was also characterized using cyclic voltammetry and spectroelectrochemical methods. The film was found to change its color from yellow to green-blue, high change in transmittance of 60% at 770 nm and good electrochemical stability during 375 cycles of switching of the potential between -0.1 V and +1.5 V, due to the presence of metal ions that link two ligand molecules resulting in formation of highly cross-linked film. The switching times (coloration and bleaching) were calculated to be 34.2 s and 7.3 s, respectively. Coloration efficiency of the formed film of polymeric complex was found to be 144 cm 2 /C.

Abstract
AbstractMedicinal inorganic chemistry involving the utilization of metal-based compounds as therapeutics has become a field showing distinct promise. DNA and RNA are ideal drug targets for therapeutic intervention in the case of various diseases, such as cancer and microbial infection. Metals play a vital role in medicine, with at least 10 metals known to be essential for human life and a further 46 nonessential metals having been involved in drug therapies and diagnosis. These metal-based complexes interact with DNA in various ways, and are often delivered as prodrugs which undergo activation in vivo. Metal complexes cause DNA crosslinking, leading to the inhibition of DNA synthesis and repair. In this review, the various interactions of metal complexes with DNA nucleic acids, as well as the underlying mechanism of action, were highlighted. Furthermore, we also discussed various tools used to investigate the interaction between metal complexes and the DNA. The tools included in vitro techniques such as spectroscopy and electrophoresis, and in silico studies such as protein docking and density-functional theory that are highlighted for preclinical development.

Abstract
Mononuclear chelates of Cr(III), Mn(II), Fe(III), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) resulted from new tridentate Schiff base ligand, 4-((1-(5-acetyl-2,4-dihydroxyphenyl)ethylidene)amino)-1,5-dimethyl-2-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-3(2H)-one, were synthesized. Metal to ligand ratio was found to be1 : 1, which was revealed via elemental analysis and characterized via various spectroscopic tools. IR has point out that the coordination of the ligand towards the metal ions was carried out via NOO donor atoms. UV-Vis, 1H NMR spectral data, molar conductivity measurements, BET surface area, melting points and theoretically through density function theory were used such as characterizing techniques in supporting further interpretation of the complexes structures. The complexes were octahedral except Cu(II) and Ni(II) complexes were tetrahedral as suggested from the magnetic moment measurement. The complexes were found to have surface area, pore volume and particle radius of 23-176 m2 g-1, 0.02-0.33 cc/g and 8.71-4.32 nm, respectively, as pointed out from BET measurement. Schiff base ligand and metal complexes were tested in vitro to estimate their antimicrobial activity opposed to Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacterial and fungal organisms. MOE 2008 was used headed for screen potential drugs with molecular docking by the protein sites of new coronavirus and the study was constructed to molecular docking without validation through MD simulations.

Abstract
Coordination compounds from simple transition metals are robust substitutes for platinum-based complexes due to their remarkable anticancer properties. In a quest to find new metal complexes that could substitute or augment the platinum based chemotherapy we synthesized three transition metal complexes C1-C3 with Cu(ii), Ni(ii), and Co(ii) as the central metal ions, respectively, and evaluated them for their anticancer activity against the human keratinocyte (HaCaT) cell line and human cervical cancer (HeLa) cell lines. These complexes showed different activity profiles with the square planar copper complex C1 being the most active with IC50 values lower than those of the widely used anticancer drug cisplatin. Assessment of the morphological changes by DAPI staining and ROS generation by DCFH-DA assay exposed that the cell death occurred by caspase-3 mediated apoptosis. C1 displayed interesting interactions with Ct-DNA, evidenced by absorption spectroscopy and validated by docking studies. Together, our results suggest that binding of the ligand to the DNA-binding domain of the p53 tumor suppressor (p53DBD) protein and the induction of the apoptotic hallmark protein, caspase-3, upon treatment with the metal complex could be positively attributed to a higher level of ROS and the subsequent DNA damage (oxidation), generated by the complex C1, that could well explain the interesting anticancer activity observed for this complex.
