Abstract
The last decade has witnessed an intensive research effort in the field of electrochemical sensors, with a particular focus on the design of amperometric biosensors for diverse analytical applications. In this context, nanomaterial integration in the construction of amperometric biosensors may constitute one of the most exciting approaches. The attractive properties of nanomaterials have paved the way for the design of a wide variety of biosensors based on various electrochemical detection methods to enhance the analytical characteristics. However, most of these nanostructured materials are not explored in the design of amperometric biosensors. This review aims to provide insight into the diverse properties of nanomaterials that can be possibly explored in the construction of amperometric biosensors.

Abstract
Ionic liquids, low temperature molten salts, have various advantages manifesting themselves as durable and environmentally friendly solvents. Their application is expanding into various fields including hydrometallurgy due to their unique properties such as non-volatility, inflammability, low toxicity, good ionic conductivity, and wide electrochemical potential window. This paper reviews previous literatures and our recent results adopting ionic liquids in extraction, synthesis and processing of metals with an emphasis on the electrolysis of active/light, rare earth, and platinum group metals. Because the research and development of ionic liquids in this area are still emerging, various, more fundamental approaches are expected to popularize ionic liquids in the metal manufacturing industry.

Abstract
Blood glucose monitoring is considered the gold standard for diabetes diagnostics and self-monitoring. However, the underlying process is invasive and highly uncomfortable for patients. Furthermore, the process must be completed several times a day to successfully manage the disease, which greatly contributes to the massive need for non-invasive monitoring options. Human serums, such as saliva, sweat, breath, urine and tears, contain traces of glucose and are easily accessible. Therefore, they allow minimal to non-invasive glucose monitoring, making them attractive alternatives to blood measurements. Numerous developments regarding noninvasive glucose detection techniques have taken place over the years, but recently, they have gained recognition as viable alternatives, due to the advent of nanotechnology-based sensors. Such sensors are optimal for testing the amount of glucose in serums other than blood thanks to their enhanced sensitivity and selectivity ranges, in addition to their size and compatibility with electronic circuitry. These nanotechnology approaches are rapidly evolving, and new techniques are constantly emerging. Hence, this manuscript aims to review current and future nanomaterial-based technologies utilizing saliva, sweat, breath and tears as a diagnostic medium for diabetes monitoring.

Abstract
Ultralow Pt-loading Au nanoflowers (AuNFs) were synthesized on a glassy carbon electrode surface by the underpotential deposition (UPD) monolayer redox replacement technique, which involves redox replacement of a copper UPD monolayer by PtCl(4)(2-) that can be reduced and deposited simultaneously. Field-emission scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and the electrochemical method were utilized to characterize the ultralow Pt-loading AuNFs. Cyclic voltammogram results showed that the ultralow Pt-loading AuNFs exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activity towards the reduction of hydrogen peroxide and the oxidation of glucose in neutral media, and the reaction pathway of glucose oxidation was changed from an intermediate process based on the electrosorption of glucose to a direct oxidation process. From chronoamperometric results, it could be obtained that this prepared biosensor had wide linear ranges and very low detection limits (DLs) for H(2)O(2) (0.025-94.3 μM; DL = 0.006 μM) and glucose (0.0028-8.0 mM; DL = 0.8 μM), which were much better than previous results.

Abstract
Zinc oxide nanoparticles-(ZnONPs)modified carbon paste enzyme electrodes (ZnONPsMCPE) were developed for determination of glucose. The determination of glucose was carried out by oxidation of H2O2 at +0.4 V. ZnONPsMCPE provided biocompatible microenvironment for GOx and necessary pathway of electron transfer between GOx and electrode. The response of GOx/ZnONPsMCPE was proportional to glucose concentration and detection limit was 9.1 × 10(-3) mM. Km and Imax, were calculated as 0.124 mM and 2.033 μA. The developed biosensor exhibits high analytical performance with wide linear range (9.1 × 10(-3)-14.5 mM), selectivity and reproducibility. Serum glucose results allow us to ascertain practical utility of GOx/ZnONPsMCPE biosensor.

Abstract
The non-enzymatic voltammetric and amperometric detection of glucose using a palladium coated nanoporous gold film electrode is described. The effect of surfactant on the fabrication of nanoporous gold film was also investigated. The voltammetric detection of glucose was performed by cyclic voltammetry. The sensor had good electrocatalytic activity towards oxidation of glucose, exhibited a rapid response (~6 s), and gave a linear range from 1 to 33 mM with a detection limit of 5 μM (with a signal to noise ratio of 3). The wide dynamic range, long-term stability, high sensitivity and selectivity, good reproducibility, and high resistance towards electrode fouling resulted in an ideal inexpensive amperometric glucose biosensor applicable for complex matrices.

Abstract
In this work we investigated the surface and facet-dependent catalytic properties of metal oxide particles as well as noble metal/metal oxide heterogeneous structures, with cuprous oxide (Cu(2)O) and Au/Cu(2)O being selected as model systems. As an example of application, we explored the potential of these materials in developing electrocatalytic devices. Cu(2)O particles were synthesized in various shapes, then used for testing their morphology-dependent electrochemical properties applied to the detection of glucose. While we did not attempt to obtain the best detection limit reported to date, the octahedral and hexapod Cu(2)O particles showed reasonable detection limits of 0.51 and 0.60 mM, respectively, which are physiologically relevant concentrations. However, detection limit seems to be less affected by particle shapes than sensitivity. Heterogeneous systems where Au NPs were deposited on the surface of Cu(2)O particles were also tested with similar results in terms of the effect of surface orientation.
