Catalytic Enantioselective Access to Dihydroquinoxalinones via Formal α-Halo Acyl Halide Synthon in One Pot

An enantioselective one-pot catalytic strategy to dihydroquinoxalinones, featuring novel 1-phenylsulfonyl-1-cyano enantioenriched epoxides as masked α-halo acyl halide synthons, followed by a domino ring-opening cyclization (DROC), is documented. A popular quinine-derived urea served as the catalyst in two out of the three steps performed in the same solvent using commercially available aldehydes, (phenylsulfonyl)acetonitrile, cumyl hydroperoxide and 1,2-phenylendiamines. Medicinally relevant 3-aryl/alkyl-substituted heterocycles are isolated in generally good to high overall yield and high enantioselectivity (up to 99 % ee). A rare example of excellent reusability of an organocatalyst at higher scale, subjected to oxidative conditions, is demonstrated. Mechanistically, labile α-ketosulfone has been detected as the intermediate involved in the DROC process. Theoretical calculations on the key epoxidation step rationalize the observed stereocontrol, highlighting the important role played by the sulfone group.

Catalytic Asymmetric [3 + 2] Annulation of Hantzsch Esters with Racemic N-Sulfonylaziridines

Hantzsch esters (HEs) served as two-carbon partners in a copper(I)-catalyzed enantioselective [3 + 2] annulation with racemic 2-(hetero)aryl-N-sulfonyl aziridines via kinetic resolution to provide pyrrolo[2,3-b]tetrahydropyridines containing multiple contiguous stereogenic centers including all-carbon quaternary centers in excellent yields and enantiopurities and moderate-to-excellent diastereoselectivities. Mainly dependent upon the structures of the aziridines, a competitive hydrogenolysis process with HEs as the hydrogen source was also observed in some cases.

Primary Alcohols via Nickel Pentacarboxycyclopentadienyl Diamide Catalyzed Hydrosilylation of Terminal Epoxides

The efficient and regioselective hydrosilylation of epoxides co-catalyzed by a pentacarboxycyclopentadienyl (PCCP) diamide nickel complex and Lewis acid is reported. This method allows for the reductive opening of terminal, monosubstituted epoxides to form unbranched, primary alcohols. A range of substrates including both terminal and nonterminal epoxides are shown to work, and a mechanistic rationale is provided. This work represents the first use of a PCCP derivative as a ligand for transition-metal catalysis.

Synthesis of 2-(2-Pyridyl)-2H-azirines via Metal-Free C-C Cross-Coupling of Bromoazirines with 2-Stannylpyridines

A high-yield method for the introduction of a 2-pyridyl substituent in the C2 position of the three-membered ring of 2-bromo-2H-azirine-2-carboxylic acid derivatives by the direct cross-coupling with 2-(trialkylstannyl)pyridines has been described. The reaction works well with 3-, 4-, or 5-substituted 2-stannylpyridines and can be also employed for the synthesis of 2-(thiazol-2-yl)-2H-azirines. According to DFT calculations, the reaction proceeds through the sequence of S_N2'-substitution of bromine, 1,4-stannyl shift, and [2,3]-sigmatropic shift of the pyridine ring.

The chemistry of dithietes, 1,2,5,6-tetrathiocins and higher oligomers

The synthesis and reactivity patterns of the strained dithiete ring are compared with their dimeric tetrathiocin counterparts and higher oligomers, highlighting: (i) their cycloaddition chemistry with organic dienophiles as a route to sulfur-containing heterocycles; (ii) their oxidative addition chemistry to low valent transition metal complexes to generate transition metal dithiolate complexes and; (iii) the base-catalysed isomerizations between different dithiete oligomers.

A ring expansion strategy towards diverse azaheterocycles

The development of innovative strategies for the synthesis of N-heterocyclic compounds is an important topic in organic synthesis. Ring expansion methods to form large N-heterocycles often involve the cycloaddition of strained aza rings with π bonds. However, in some cases such strategies suffer from some limitations owing to the difficulties in controlling the regioselectivity and the accessibility of specific π-bond synthons. Here, we report the development of a general ring expansion strategy that involves a formal cross-dimerization between three-membered aza heterocycles and three- and four-membered-ring ketones through synergistic bimetallic catalysis. These formal cross-dimerizations of two different strained rings are efficient and scalable, and provide a straightforward and broadly applicable means of assembling diverse N-heterocycles, such as 3-benzazepinones, dihydropyridinones and uracils, which are versatile units in numerous drugs and biologically active compounds. Preliminary mechanistic studies revealed that the C-C bond of strained ring ketones is first cleaved by the Pd⁰ species during the reaction.

Nickel-Catalyzed Kumada Cross-Coupling Reactions of Benzylic Sulfonamides

Herein, we report a Kumada cross-coupling reaction of benzylic sulfonamides. The scope of the transformation includes acyclic and cyclic sulfonamide precursors that cleanly produce highly substituted acyclic fragments. Preliminary data are consistent with a stereospecific mechanism that allows for a diastereoselective reaction.

Ni/Photoredox-Catalyzed Enantioselective Cross-Electrophile Coupling of Styrene Oxides with Aryl Iodides

A Ni/photoredox-catalyzed enantioselective reductive coupling of styrene oxides and aryl iodides is reported. This reaction affords access to enantioenriched 2,2-diarylalcohols from racemic epoxides via a stereoconvergent mechanism. Multivariate linear regression (MVLR) analysis with 29 bioxazoline (BiOx) and biimidazoline (BiIm) ligands revealed that enantioselectivity correlates with electronic properties of the ligands, with more electron-donating ligands affording higher ee's. Experimental and computational mechanistic studies were conducted, lending support to the hypothesis that reductive elimination is enantiodetermining and the electronic character of the ligands influences the enantioselectivity by altering the position of the transition state structure along the reaction coordinate. This study demonstrates the benefits of utilizing statistical modeling as a platform for mechanistic understanding and provides new insight into an emerging class of chiral ligands for stereoconvergent Ni and Ni/photoredox cross-coupling.

Non-conventional Behavior of a 2,1-Benzazaphosphole: Heterodiene or Hidden Phosphinidene?

The titled 2,1-benzazaphosphole (1) (i. e. ArP, where Ar=2-(DippN=CH)C6 H4 , Dipp=2,6-iPr2 C6 H3 ) showed a spectacular reactivity behaving both as a reactive heterodiene in hetero-Diels-Alder (DA) reactions or as a hidden phosphinidene in the coordination toward selected transition metals (TMs). Thus, 1 reacts with electron-deficient alkynes RC≡CR (R=CO2 Me, C5 F4 N) giving 1-phospha-1,4-dihydro-iminonaphthalenes 2 and 3, that undergo hydrogen migration producing 1-phosphanaphthalenes 4 and 5. Compound 1 is also able to activate the C=C double bond in selected N-alkyl/aryl-maleimides RN(C(O)CH)2 (R=Me, tBu, Ph) resulting in the addition products 7-9 with bridged bicyclic [2.2.1] structures. The binding of the maleimides to 1 is semi-reversible upon heating. By contrast, when 1 was treated with selected TM complexes, it serves as a 4e donor bridging two TMs thus producing complexes [μ-ArP(AuCl)2 ] (10), [(μ-ArP)4 Ag4 ][X]4 (X=BF4 (11), OTf (12)) and [μ-ArP(Co2 (CO)6 )] (13). The structure and electron distribution of the starting material 1 as well as of other compounds were also studied from the theoretical point of view.

Nucleophile-Induced Rearrangement of 2H-Azirine-2-carbonyl Azides to 2-(1H-Tetrazol-1-yl)acetic Acid Derivatives

2H-Azirine-2-carbonyl azides undergo a rearrangement into derivatives of 2-(1H-tetrazol-1-yl)acetic acid when interacting with O- and S-nucleophiles at room temperature. The reaction is catalyzed by tertiary amines or hydrazoic acid. The reaction with primary alcohols and phenols gives alkyl/aryl 2-(1H-tetrazol-1-yl)acetates. Thiophenols react with 2H-azirine-2-carbonyl azides to afford S-aryl 2-(1H-tetrazol-1-yl)ethanethioates. The mechanism of the nucleophile-induced rearrangement of 2H-azirine-2-carbonyl azides is discussed on the basis of DFT calculations as well as kinetic and ¹⁵N labeling experiments.

Relieving the stress together: annulation of two different strained rings towards the formation of biologically significant heterocyclic scaffolds

Small carbo- and heterocycles have become versatile building blocks owing to their intrinsic ring strain and ease of synthesis. However, the traditional approaches of heterocycle synthesis involved the combination of one strained-carbocycle or heterocycle with one unsaturated molecule. On the contrary, there is an exciting possibility of combining two different strained rings to furnish varieties of heterocycles, where one of the strained rings can act as a valuable alternative to the unsaturated molecule. These strategies are also useful to access multi-functionalized rings. Despite these distinctive synthetic benefits, this chemistry has not drawn considerable attention of the community. In this minireview, we explicitly choose this topic to reveal the unexplored possibilities with these different strained rings. This minireview provides comprehensive details with the mechanistic rationale about the reactivity of these pairs of small rings when they are allowed to react together in the presence of different Lewis acids. Subsequently, it will also open a new avenue for heterocycle synthesis.

New Trends in Diaziridine Formation and Transformation (a Review)

This review focuses on diaziridine, a high strained three-membered heterocycle with two nitrogen atoms that plays an important role as one of the most important precursors of diazirine photoaffinity probes, as well as their formation and transformation. Recent research trends can be grouped into three categories, based on whether they have examined non-substituted, N-monosubstituted, or N,N-disubstituted diaziridines. The discussion expands on the conventional methods for recent applications, the current spread of studies, and the unconventional synthesis approaches arising over the last decade of publications.

Nickel-Catalyzed Regio- and Stereospecific C-H Coupling of Benzamides with Aziridines

A nickel-catalyzed C-H coupling of 8-aminoquinoline-derived benzamides with aryl- and alkyl-substituted aziridines has been disclosed. The current strategy provides direct access to benzolactams by the C-H alkylation-intramolecular amidation cascade event with the concomitant removal of the aminoquinoline auxiliary. The regioselectivity of ring opening of aziridines can be controlled by the substituents. The reaction with chiral aziridines proceeds with inversion of configuration, thus suggesting an S_N2-type nucleophilic ring-opening pathway.

Cobalt Catalyst Determines Regioselectivity in Ring Opening of Epoxides with Aryl Halides

Ring-opening of epoxides furnishing either linear or branched products belongs to the group of classic transformations in organic synthesis. However, the regioselective cross-electrophile coupling of aryl epoxides with aryl halides still represents a key challenge. Herein, we report that the vitamin B₁₂/Ni dual-catalytic system allows for the selective synthesis of linear products under blue-light irradiation, thus complementing methodologies that give access to branched alcohols. Experimental and theoretical studies corroborate the proposed mechanism involving alkylcobalamin as an intermediate in this reaction.

Synthesis of α-Alkylated Ketones via Selective Epoxide Opening/Alkylation Reactions with Primary Alcohols

A new method for converting terminal epoxides and primary alcohols into α-alkylated ketones under borrowing hydrogen conditions is reported. The procedure involves a one-pot epoxide ring opening and alkylation via primary alcohols in the presence of an N-heterocyclic carbene iridium(I) catalyst, under aerobic conditions, with water as the side product.

Photocatalytic Approach for Construction of 5,6-Dihydroimidazo[2,1-a]isoquinolines and Their Luminescent Properties

A visible-light-driven photoredox reaction of tetrahydroisoquinoline with 2H-azirines is described. 4,7-Bis(4-methoxyphenyl)benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole, a benzothiadiazole (BTD) derived fluorophore, is used as an organic photoredox catalyst, and the reaction offers an efficient access to 5,6-dihydroimidazo[2,1-a]isoquinolines with a broad range of functional groups. The resulting 5,6-dihydroimidazo[2,1-a]isoquinolines present strong photoluminecence in solutions and powders and could be applied in the fabrication of blue OLED devices.

Is the Electrophilicity of the Metal Nitrene the Sole Predictor of Metal-Mediated Nitrene Transfer to Olefins? Secondary Contributing Factors as Revealed by a Library of High-Spin Co(II) Reagents

Recent research has highlighted the key role played by the electron affinity of the active metal-nitrene/imido oxidant as the driving force in nitrene additions to olefins to afford valuable aziridines. The present work showcases a library of Co(II) reagents that, unlike the previously examined Mn(II) and Fe(II) analogues, demonstrate reactivity trends in olefin aziridinations that cannot be solely explained by the electron affinity criterion. A family of Co(II) catalysts (17 members) has been synthesized with the assistance of a trisphenylamido-amine scaffold decorated by various alkyl, aryl, and acyl groups attached to the equatorial amidos. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, cyclic voltammetry and EPR data reveal that the high-spin Co(II) sites (S = 3/2) feature a minimal [N3N] coordination and span a range of 1.4 V in redox potentials. Surprisingly, the Co(II)-mediated aziridination of styrene demonstrates reactivity patterns that deviate from those anticipated by the relevant electrophilicities of the putative metal nitrenes. The representative L4Co catalyst (-COCMe3 arm) is operating faster than the L8Co analogue (-COCF3 arm), in spite of diminished metal-nitrene electrophilicity. Mechanistic data (Hammett plots, KIE, stereocontrol studies) reveal that although both reagents follow a two-step reactivity path (turnover-limiting metal-nitrene addition to the C b atom of styrene, followed by product-determining ring-closure), the L4Co catalyst is associated with lower energy barriers in both steps. DFT calculations indicate that the putative [L4Co]NTs and [L8Co]NTs species are electronically distinct, inasmuch as the former exhibits a single-electron oxidized ligand arm. In addition, DFT calculations suggest that including London dispersion corrections for L4Co (due to the polarizability of the tert-Bu substituent) can provide significant stabilization of the turnover-limiting transition state. This study highlights how small ligand modifications can generate stereoelectronic variants that in certain cases are even capable of overriding the preponderance of the metal-nitrene electrophilicity as a driving force.

Palladium-Catalyzed Chemoselective Oxidative Addition of Allyloxy-Tethered Aryl Iodides: Synthesis of Medium-Sized Rings and Mechanistic Studies

This Letter describes a Pd-catalyzed Tsuji-Trost-type/Heck reaction with allyloxy-tethered aryl iodides and aziridines. The strategy provides efficient access to benzannulated medium-sized rings via intermolecular cyclization. The substrate aryl iodide has two oxidative addition sites, that is, the aromatic C-I bond and the allyl-oxygen bond. The chemoselective oxidative addition of allyl-oxygen bonds is favored, followed by the activation of aromatic C-I bonds. Aziridine plays a key role. Mechanistic studies shed light on the reaction pathway.

Iodide-Mediated [3 + 2]-Cycloaddition Reaction with N-Tosylaziridines and α,β-Unsaturated Ketones

The [3 + 2]-cycloaddition reaction between N-tosylaziridines and α,β-unsaturated ketones was promoted with lithium iodide. The reaction proceeded under mild conditions to provide N-tosylpyrrolidines. Quaternary carbon-possessing 3,3-disubstituted pyrrolidines including spiro compounds were afforded in high yields. A simple procedure with easy to handle reagents makes this reaction concise. The intramolecular version of this reaction was applied to synthesize tropane skeletons.

Synthesis of 15N-labeled heterocycles via the cleavage of C-N bonds of anilines and glycine-15N

A nitrogen replacement process that directly incorporates the 15N atom of glycine-15N into anilines was reported. The process involves a Csp2-N bond cleavage of anilines driven by dearomatization and a Csp3-N bond cleavage of glycine-15N driven by aromatization. A variety of 15N-labeled aromatic heterocycles can be prepared via this process.

Azaphosphiridines: challenges and perspectives

This mini-review describes a broad spectrum of synthetic strategies to access mono- and polycyclic azaphosphiridines; properties and theoretical calculations of free and metal-ligated are discussed. These species are characterized by a highly strained (saturated) CPN ring with three differently polarized endocyclic bonds. The latter causes a high reactivity of aza-phosphiridine complexes towards ring expansion and exchange reactions. Increasing the ring strain leads to masked FLP behaviour, i.e., small molecule activation was observed. New perspectives in homogenous catalysis are also offered, e.g., a pool of novel chiral P-heterocyclic ligands, ready to be explored, if the challenge to unligate them is solved.

Consecutive O-S/N-S Bond Cleavage in Gold-Catalyzed Rearrangement Reactions of Alkynyl N-Sulfinylimines

Gold-catalyzed reactions of alkynyl N-sulfinylimines were used to produce the corresponding 2H-azirines possessing sulfenyl and acyl groups at the 3-position of the azirine ring in good to excellent yields. These reactions involved internal transfer of the sulfinyl oxygen atom to form a thiooxime intermediate tethered to an α-oxo gold carbene moiety. Subsequent insertion of the carbene into the N-S bond resulted in ring construction.

Merging Photoredox/Nickel Catalysis for Cross-Electrophile Coupling of Aziridines with Pyridin-1-ium Salts via Dearomatization

Merging photoredox/nickel catalysis enabling the cross-electrophile coupling of aziridines with pyridin-1-ium salts involving dearomatization for the synthesis of β-(1,4-dihydropyridin-4-yl)-ethylamines, especially including bioactive motif-based analogues, is described. This method allows incorporation of a 1,4-dihydropyridin-4-yl group and formation a N-H amino group to construct highly valuable β-(1,4-dihydropyridin-4-yl)-ethylamine frameworks in a single step through the C2-N bond regioselective cleavage and dearomatization alkylation cascades with precise regioselectivity and excellent functional group tolerance, and represents an appealing cross-electrophile coupling strategy to accomplish transformations between two electrophiles, including aziridines and pyridin-1-ium salts, by avoiding prefunctionalization.

The transition-metal-catalyzed stereoselective ring-expansion of vinylaziridines and vinyloxiranes

The transition-metal-aided stereoselective construction of sp3-carbon-rich heterocyclic scaffolds using strained-ring systems has received considerable attention in recent years due to the prominent presence of these scaffolds in myriad natural products, bioactive molecules, and pharmaceutical components. In this area, the catalytic ring-enlargement of vinylaziridines and vinyloxiranes plays a predominant role when synthesizing high sp3-content biorelevant heterocyclic compounds. This article aims to portray recent advancements in the ring-expansion of vinylaziridines and vinyloxiranes for accessing densely functionalized stereoselective heterocycles that have been developed over the past five years, with an emphasis on the substrate scopes and mechanistic insights into the key methodologies, and it is arranged based on the transition metals used and the ring sizes of the heterocyclic scaffolds.

Coordination Properties of Non-Rigid Phosphinoyldithioformate Complexes of the [Mo2O2(µ-S)2]2+ Cation in Catalytic Sulfur Transfer Reactions with Thiiranes

Two “Mo2O2S2”-based complexes with phosphinoyldithioformate ligands were synthesized from the metathesis reaction of [R2P(O)CS2]− with (Me4N)2[Mo2O2(µ-S)2(Cl)4] to give [Mo2O2(µ-S)2{R2P(O)CS2}2] (1; R = Ph, 2; R = Bn). The complexes were fully characterized, including the X-ray crystal structure for 1. Variable temperatures 31P NMR of 1 and 2 exhibit non-rigid behavior in solution where three and two coordination isomers were present, respectively. The organic substituent on the P atom greatly impacts the complex non-rigid properties and behavior. The catalytic activity of 1 and 2 towards sulfur atom transfer (SAT) using propylene sulfide and cyclohexene sulfide was explored, employing homogeneous reaction conditions at an ambient temperature on the NMR scale. The complexes showed distinctly different properties along with high conversions in short reaction times. A catalytic cycle consistent with the results is proposed.

Catalytic Asymmetric Hydroacyloxylation/Ring-Opening Reaction of Ynamides, Acids, and Aziridines

A highly enantioselective three-component reaction of ynamides with carboxylic acids and 2,2'-diester aziridines has been realized by using a chiral N,N'-dioxide/Ho(OTf)₃ complex as a Lewis acid catalyst. The process includes the formation of an α-acyloxyenamide intermediate through the addition of carboxylic acids to ynamides and the following enantioselective nucleophilic addition to in-situ-generated azomethine ylides induced by the chiral catalyst. A range of amino acyloxyenamides are delivered in moderate to good yields with good ee values. In addition, a possible catalytic cycle with a transition model is proposed to elucidate the reaction mechanism.

Sc(OTf)3-Catalyzed Formal [3 + 3] Cycloaddition Reaction of Diaziridines and Quinones for the Synthesis of Benzo[e][1,3,4]oxadiazines

A formal [3 + 3] cyclization reaction of diaziridines and quinones has been developed offering 1,3,4-oxadiazinanes in generally high yields (up to 96%). The reaction was catalyzed by Sc(OTf)₃ with a large substrate scope for both diaziridines and quinones. The synergistic activation of 1,3-dipolar diaziridines and the dipolar quinones was found to be essential to enable this reaction.

Ni-Catalyzed Carboxylation of Aziridines en Route to β-Amino Acids

A Ni-catalyzed reductive carboxylation of N-substituted aziridines with CO₂ at atmospheric pressure is disclosed. The protocol is characterized by its mild conditions, experimental ease, and exquisite chemo- and regioselectivity pattern, thus unlocking a new catalytic blueprint to access β-amino acids, important building blocks with considerable potential as peptidomimetics.

Merging Annulation with Ring Deconstruction: Synthesis of (E)-3-(2-Acyl-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-4-yl)acrylaldehyde Derivatives via I2/FeCl3-Promoted Dual C(sp3)-H Amination/C-N Bond Cleavage

An unprecedented I₂/FeCl₃-promoted cascade reaction of aryl methyl ketones with 8-aminoquinolines for the convenient synthesis of (E)-3-(2-acyl-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-4-yl)acrylaldehydes was developed by merging annulation with ring deconstruction. This novel strategy unlocked the new reactivity of 8-aminoquinolines and provided an attractive platform for the ring opening of unactivated N-heteroaromatic compounds. Preliminary mechanistic investigation suggested that dual C(sp³)-H amination/C-N bond cleavage were key reaction steps. Furthermore, late-stage modification of the obtained products successfully delivered pyrazole and isoxazole derivatives, increasing the practicability and application potential of this methodology in organic synthesis.

Indirect Electrosynthesis with Halogen Ions as Mediators

Organic electrosynthesis has gained increasing research interest as it harvests electric current as redox regents, thereby providing a sustainable alternative to conventional approaches. Compared with direct electrosynthesis, indirect electrosynthesis employs mediator(s) to lower the overpotentials for substrate activation, and enhance the reaction efficiency and functional group compatibility by shifting the heterogenous electron transfer process to be homogenous. As one of the most versatile and cost-efficient mediators, halogen mediators are always combined with an irreversible halogenation reaction. Thus, the electrochemical reaction between halogen mediators and substrates doesn't directly controlled by the two standard potentials difference. In this account, our recent developments in the area of halogen-mediated indirect electrosynthesis are summarized. The anodically generated halogen species from halogenide salts have the abilities to undergo electron-transfer (ET) or hydrogen-atom- transfer (HAT) processes. The reaction features, scopes, limitations, and mechanistic rationalisations are discussed in this account. We hope our studies will contribute to the future developments to broaden the scope of halogen-mediated electrosynthesis.

Buchner Reaction/Azirine Modification Approach Toward Cycloheptatriene Containing Nitrogen Heterocyclic Scaffolds

The reaction conditions for the Buchner reaction of 2-(diazoacetyl)-2H-azirines with benzene leading to 2-(cyclohepta-2,4,6-trien-1-yl)-2H-azirines have been found. The azirine fragment of these compounds was subsequently used to prepare 5-(cyclohepta-2,4,6-trien-1-yl)isoxazoles and α-(cyclohepta-2,4,6-triene-1-ylcarbonyl)-1H-pyrroles. NMR and DFT calculations showed that the cycloheptatriene-norcaradiene valence isomerization in the corresponding moieties of synthesized azirines, isoxazoles, and pyrroles is very fast at room temperature. Cycloheptatriene valence isomer predominates in azirines and pyrroles, while 5-(cycloheptatrienyl)isoxazoles exist in a pure cycloheptatriene form at 25 °C in chloroform solution. In accordance with the X-ray analysis, two of the synthesized pyrroles crystallized as norcaradiene isomers from a solution of equilibrium mixture of valence isomers. Reductive isoxazole ring opening using the Mo(CO)₆/H₂O reductive system afforded (Z)-3-amino-3-aryl-1-(cyclohepta-2,4,6-trien-1-yl)prop-2-en-1-ones, which are pure cycloheptatriene isomers. α-(Cycloheptatrieneylcarbonyl)-1H-pyrroles were transformed into the α-(benzylcarbonyl)-1H-pyrroles under cooperative TFA/Rh₂(TFA)₄ catalysis.

Iron-Catalyzed Cycloaddition of Amides and 2,3-Diaryl-2H-azirines To Access Oxazoles via C-N Bond Cleavage

A novel and efficient iron-catalyzed cycloaddition reaction using readily available 2,3-diaryl-2H-azirines and primary amides is reported. A wide range of trisubstituted oxazoles could be achieved in good yields with good functional group compatibility. In this transformation, two C-N bonds were cleaed and new C-N and C-O bonds were formed.

Pd(II)-Catalyzed Annulation Reactions of Epoxides with Benzamides to Synthesize Isoquinolones

Epoxides as alkylating reagents are unprecedentedly applied in Pd(II)-catalyzed C-H alkylation and oxidative annulation of substituted benzamides to synthesize isoquinolones rather than isochromans, which is accomplished through alerting the previously reported reaction mechanism by the addition of oxidant and TEA. Under these conditions, various isoquinolones have been prepared with yields up to 92%. In addition, this methodology has been successfully employed in the total syntheses of rupreschstyril, siamine, and cassiarin A in an expedient fashion.

Synthesis of a palladium based MOF via an effective post-synthetic modification approach and its catalytic activity towards Heck type coupling reactions

The complete exchange of metal nodes in a MOF with the Pd(ii) ions was done without losing the structural integrity. The new MOF turned out to be an excellent catalyst for the C–C bond formation via un-reacted cleavage C–N bond of arylhydrazines.
