Abstract
In this perspective, we review those stereoselective photocatalytic reactions that use synergy between photoredox catalysts and transition metal catalysts. In particular, we highlight the orchestrated interaction between two and more metals which not only enhance the turnover numbers, but also lead to increased selectivities. Aspects of green chemistry and sustainable developments are included. In this review, C-C, C-O, C-N and C-S forming reactions are discussed and a perspective on future developments is given.

Abstract
Base-assisted diazonium activation has been employed to promote gold(i)/(iii) redox catalysis toward allylic oxime cyclization/aryl coupling. Functional isoxazolines were prepared with good to excellent yields, while the alternative photoactivation method provided trace amounts of the isoxazoline products. This study further broadens the scope of gold redox chemistry.

Abstract
A gold(I)-catalyzed cascade cyclization-alkynylation of allenoates using alkynyl bromide to generate β-alkynyl-γ-butenolides was investigated. Whereas alkynyl iodides afforded significant amounts of the homo-coupling of two lactone units, alkynyl bromides led to a selective reaction, and a broad functional group tolerance was observed. Under the optimized reaction conditions, it was possible to directly synthesize a large range of β-alkynyl-γ-butenolides in moderate to good yields without the need for any external oxidant.

Abstract
We report herein a visible-light-promoted, highly practical carboxylation of readily accessible aryl triflates at ambient temperature and a balloon pressure of CO2 by the combined use of palladium and photoredox Ir(III) catalysts. Strikingly, the stoichiometric metallic reductant is replaced by a nonmetallic amine reductant providing an environmentally benign carboxylation process. In addition, one-pot synthesis of a carboxylic acid directly from phenol and modification of estrone and concise synthesis of pharmaceutical drugs adapalene and bexarotene have been accomplished via late-stage carboxylation reaction. Furthermore, a parallel decarboxylation-carboxylation reaction has been demonstrated in an H-type closed vessel that is an interesting concept for the strategic sector. Spectroscopic and spectroelectrochemical studies indicated electron transfer from the Ir(III)/DIPEA combination to generate aryl carboxylate and Pd(0) for catalytic turnover.

Abstract
The first examples of electrochemical trifluoromethylation and sulfonylation/semipinacol rearrangements of allylic alcohols were developed using cheap and stable RSO2Na (R = CF3, Ph) as reagents. Various β-trifluoromethyl and sulfonated ketones were obtained in moderate to excellent yields. This strategy provides a facile, direct, and complementary approach to construct all-carbon quaternary stereocenters. In addition, the reaction has the advantages of being chemical oxidant-free and metal-free and has safe and mild reaction conditions.

Abstract
Herein, we report on the photoredox-initiated gold-mediated C(sp2)-CF3 and C(sp2)-N coupling reactions. By adopting gold as a platform for probing metallaphotoredox catalysis, we demonstrate that cationic gold(III) complexes are the key intermediates of the C-C and C-N coupling reactions. The high-valent gold(III) intermediates are accessed by virtue of photoredox catalysis through a radical chain process. In addition, the bond-forming step of the coupling reactions is the reductive elimination from cationic gold(III) intermediates, which is supported by isolation and crystallographic characterization of key Au(III) intermediates.

Abstract
Cross-coupling reactions, which were discovered almost 50 years ago, are widely used in both industry and academia. Even though cross-coupling reactions now represent mature technology, there is still a significant amount of research in this area that aims to improve the scope of these reactions, develop more efficient catalysts, and make reactions more practical. In this tutorial, a brief background to cross-coupling reactions is provided, and then the major advances in cross-coupling research over the last 20 years are described. These include the development of improved ligands and precatalysts for cross-coupling and the extension of cross-coupling reactions to a much wider range of electrophiles. For example, cross-coupling reactions are now common with sp3-hybridized electrophiles as well as ester, amide, ether, and aziridine substrates. For many of these more modern substrates, traditional palladium-based catalysts are less efficient than systems based on first-row transition metals such as nickel. Conventional cross-coupling reactions have also inspired the development of a range of related reactions, such as cross-electrophile and decarboxylative couplings as well as couplings based on metallaphotoredox chemistry. The development of these new reactions is probably at the same stage as traditional cross-coupling reactions 30 years ago, and this tutorial highlights how many of the same strategies used to improve cross-coupling reactions may also be applicable to making the new reactions more practical.

Abstract
Gold(ii) species catalyse the cyclisation of N(2-propyn-1-yl)benzamide to 2-phenyl-5-vinylidene-2-oxazoline without halide abstraction while the saturated gold(i) complex is inactive. Redox-switching between gold(ii) and gold(i) turns catalytic turnover on and off.

Abstract
The rich legacy of arenediazonium salts in the synthesis of unsymmetrical biaryls, built around the seminal works of Pschorr, Gomberg and Bachmann more than a century ago, continues to make important contributions at various evolutionary stages of modern biaryl synthesis. Based on in-depth mechanistic analysis and design of novel pathways and reaction conditions, the scope of biaryl synthesis with arenediazonium salts has enormously expanded in recent years through applications of transition metal/photoredox-catalysed cross-coupling, thermal/photosensitized radical chain CH-arylation of (hetero)arenes and arylative radical annulation reactions with alkynes. These recent developments have provided facile synthetic access to a wide variety of unsymmetrical biaryls of pharmaceutical, agrochemical and optoelectronic importance with green scale-up options and created opportunities for late-stage modification of peptides, nucleosides, carbon nanotubes and electrodes, the details of which are captured in this review.

Abstract
The scope of photosensitizer-free visible light-driven gold-catalyzed cross-coupling was evaluated by a wide variety of organoboron and organosilicon species using four equivalents of aryldiazonium salts and (4-CF3-C6H4)3PAuCl in MeOH. In addition, a C(sp or sp2)-C(sp2) cross-coupling of organotrimethylsilanes and aryldiazonium salts was investigated. The reactions can be conducted under very mild reaction conditions, with a reduced amount of aryldiazonium salt (1.2 equiv.) by using a catalytic amount of Ph3PAuNTf2 in MeCN under irradiation with blue LEDs at room temperature.

Abstract
We have investigated both batch and continuous flow photoarylations of enol-acetates to yield different α-arylated aldehyde and ketone building blocks by using diazonium salts as the aryl-radical source. Different porphyrins were used as SET photocatalysts, and photophysical as well as electrochemical studies were performed to rationalize the photoredox properties and suggest mechanistic insights. Notably, the most electron-deficient porphyrin ( meso-tetra(pentafluorophenyl)porphyrin) shows the best photoactivity as an electron donor in the triplet excited state, which was rationalized by the redox potentials of excited states and the turnover of the porphyrins in the photocatalytic cycle. A two-step continuous protocol and multigram-scale reactions are also presented revealing a robust, cost-competitive, and easy methodology, highlighting the significant potential of porphyrins as SET photocatalysts.

Abstract
A simple and efficient access to arylboronates was achieved with methanol-initiated borylation of aryldiazonium salts. Reduction of aryldiazonium ions by single electron transfer from methanol affords aryl radical species, which undergo a subsequent C–B bond formation with bis(pinacolato)diboron. This highly practical borylation process, which can be carried out on the gram-scale, enjoys operational simplicity as well as mild and catalyst-free conditions.

Abstract
Chiral Lewis acid catalyzed asymmetric formation of cyclobutanones from α-silyloxyacroleins and α-alkyl or α-aryl diazoesters has been developed. In the presence of a chiral oxazaborolidinium ion catalyst, various α-silyloxycyclobutanones possessing a chiral β-quaternary center were synthesized in high yield (up to 91%) with excellent enantio- and diastereoselectivity (up to 98% ee and up to >20:1 dr) through tandem cyclopropanation/semipinacol rearrangement. The synthetic potential of this method was illustrated by conversion of the product to various cyclic compounds such as γ-lactone, cyclobutanol, and cyclopentanone.
