Abstract
Brain metastases are the leading cause of intracranial malignancy and a major cause of mortality and morbidity. From 20 to 40% of cancer patients develop brain metastases. The irradiation of the whole brain remains the most commonly undertaken treatment, but should be discussed in relation to other therapeutic alternatives such as stereotactic radiotherapy or the use of new chemotherapy drugs. Its use according to pathology should be discussed. It can lead to a long-term neurocognitive toxicity that should be evaluated more precisely. This literature review aims to highlight the role of whole-brain radiotherapy used alone or in combination with other treatments.

Abstract
Background MRI-based diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) visualizes the local differences in water diffusion in vivo. The prognostic value of DWI signal intensities on the source images and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) maps respectively has not yet been studied in brain metastases (BM). Methods We included into this retrospective analysis all patients operated for single BM at our institution between 2002 and 2010, in whom presurgical DWI and BM tissue samples were available. We recorded relevant clinical data, assessed DWI signal intensity and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values and performed histopathological analysis of BM tissues. Statistical analyses including uni- and multivariate survival analyses were performed. Results 65 patients (34 female, 31 male) with a median overall survival time (OS) of 15 months (range 0–99 months) were available for this study. 19 (29.2%) patients presented with hyper-, 3 (4.6%) with iso-, and 43 (66.2%) with hypointense DWI. ADCmean values could be determined in 32 (49.2%) patients, ranged from 456.4 to 1691.8*10−6 mm2/s (median 969.5) and showed a highly significant correlation with DWI signal intensity. DWI hyperintensity correlated significantly with high amount of interstitial reticulin deposition. In univariate analysis, patients with hyperintense DWI (5 months) and low ADCmean values (7 months) had significantly worse OS than patients with iso/hypointense DWI (16 months) and high ADCmean values (30 months), respectively. In multivariate survival analysis, high ADCmean values retained independent statistical significance. Conclusions Preoperative DWI findings strongly and independently correlate with OS in patients operated for single BM and are related to interstitial fibrosis. Inclusion of DWI parameters into established risk stratification scores for BM patients should be considered.

Abstract
In patients with brain tumor (BT), seizures are the onset symptom in 20-40% of patients, while a further 20-45% of patients will present them during the course of the disease. These patients present a complex therapeutic profile and require a unique and multidisciplinary approach. The choice of antiepileptic drugs is challenging for this particular patient population because brain tumor-related epilepsy (BTRE) is often drug-resistant, has a strong impact on the quality of life and weighs heavily on public health expenditures.In BT patients, the presence of epilepsy is considered the most important risk factor for long-term disability. For this reason, the problem of the proper administration of medications and their potential side effects is of great importance, because good seizure control can significantly improve the patient's psychological and relational sphere. In these patients, new generation drugs such as gabapentin, lacosamide, levetiracetam, oxcarbazepine, pregabalin, topiramate, zonisamide are preferred because they have fewer drug interactions and cause fewer side effects. Among the recently marketed drugs, lacosamide has demonstrated promising results and should be considered a possible treatment option. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a customized treatment plan for each individual patient with BTRE. This requires a vision of patient management concerned not only with medical therapies (pharmacological, surgical, radiological, etc.) but also with emotional and psychological support for the individual as well as his or her family throughout all stages of the illness.

Abstract
The authors describe a case of a 47-year-old male smoker with a 3-month history of hearing loss, tinnitus and dizziness. Physical examination revealed neurosensory hearing loss. Small rounded hypodensities without mass effect were evident in a computed tomography scan of the head, confirmed by brain magnetic resonance imaging as multiple cystic lesions in both cerebral and cerebellar hemispheres, without perilesional edema or gadolinium enhancement, suggestive of neurocysticercosis. Extraparenchymal involvement was also noted. Albendazole and dexamethasone were started. As a chest radiograph showed a bilateral reticulonodular pattern, a bronchoscopy was performed showing normal results. However, transbronchial biopsy revealed lung adenocarcinoma. Thoracoabdominopelvic computed tomography scan showed secondary lung and bone lesions. Since brain lesions were not suggestive of secondary tumor lesions, a brain biopsy was performed confirming metastatic disease. This case illustrates some peculiar imagiological features of brain metastases in lung cancer, indicating that sometimes invasive procedures are required to establish a definitive diagnosis.

Abstract
Background To evaluate the therapeutic strategies commonly employed in the clinic for the management of brain metastases (BMs) and to correlate disease outcome with type of treatment and therapeutic resources available at the treating center. Methods Four Cancer centres participated to the survey. Data were collected through a questionnaire filled in by one physician for each centre. Results Clinical data regarding 290 cancer patients with BMs from solid tumors were collected. Median age was 59 and 59% of patients had ≤ 3 brain metastases. A local approach (surgery and stereotactic radiosurgery) was adopted in 31% of patients. The local approach demonstrated to be superior in terms of survival compared to the regional/systemic approach (whole brain radiotherapy and chemotherapy, p = <.0001 for survival at 2 years). In the multivariate analysis local treatment was an independent prognostic factor for survival. When patients were divided into 2 groups whether they were treated in centers where local approaches were available or not (group A vs group B respectively, 58% of patients with ≤ 3 BMs in both cohorts), more patients in group A received local strategies although no difference in time to brain progression at 1 year was observed between the two groups of patients. Conclusions In clinical practice, local strategies should be integrated in the management of brain metastases. Proper selection of patients who are candidate to local treatments is of crucial importance.

Abstract
We performed a case series analysis to evaluate the effects of levetiracetam (LEV) monotherapy on seizures, adverse events, cognitive functioning and quality of life (QoL) in patients with brain tumor-related epilepsy (BTRE). We also explored the possible effects of systemic therapies on the efficacy of LEV. Twenty-nine patients were followed (13 female, 16 male; age 24-75 years) with 12 months of follow-up. Patients were evaluated by QoL and neuropsychological tests. At final follow-up, mean LEV dosage was 1991.4 mg/day. Among patients who reached the final follow-up of 12 months (n = 15), 1 patient had ≥50% reduction of seizure frequency (SF), and 14/15 were seizure free. The difference in presence/absence of seizures between baseline and final follow-up was significant (p < 0.001). Responder rate was 100%. We observed five side-effects: four mild (reversible) and one severe. Logistic regression revealed that chemotherapy and radiotherapy did not affect the efficacy of LEV in seizure outcome (p = 0.999). The following statistically significant observations emerged by tests' evaluation: less worry about seizures, effects of antiepileptic, and ability to maintain social functions. Our data suggest that seizure occurrence can be an important warning sign that the clinician should heed throughout the duration of the illness. Patients with BTRE represent a unique patient population that presents difficulties regarding management of two very different pathologies: epilepsy on the one hand, and brain tumor on the other. Our data indicate that LEV, in patients with BTRE, is safe and efficacious, with positive impact on QoL.

Abstract
For gamma knife planning, 2.4-mm-slice MRIs are taken under rigid frame fixation, so tiny tumors become visible. This study evaluated differences in the numbers of brain metastases between conventional contrast-enhanced MRI (6 ± 1 mm slice thickness) taken before patient referral and contrast-enhanced MRI for gamma knife planning. The numbers of metastases on the 2 images were counted by at least 2 oncologists. For gamma knife planning, spoiled gradient-recalled echo images were obtained after 0.1 mmol/kg gadolinium administration using a 1.5-T system. Images from 1045 patients with an interval between the 2 MRI studies of 6 weeks or less were analyzed. Increases in the number of metastases were found in 33.7% of the 1045 patients, whereas the number was identical in 62.3%. In 4.0%, the number decreased, indicating overdiagnosis at conventional MRI. These proportions did not differ significantly by the interval before gamma knife. An increase from single to multiple metastases was found in 16.0%. Meningeal dissemination was newly diagnosed in 2.3%. On planning images, the proportions of patients with 1, 2, 3, and 4 or more lesions were 37.6%, 19.3%, 9.3%, and 33.8%, respectively. In cases of colorectal cancer and hepatoma, the proportions of patients with a single metastasis (32 of 61 [52%] and 5 of 6 [83%], respectively) were higher than that of patients with other malignancies. In about one-third of the patients, an increased number of metastases were found on the thin-slice images. This should be kept in mind when deciding the treatment strategy for brain metastases.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Metastatic brain cancers are the most common intracranial tumor and occur in about 15% of all cancer patients. In up to 10% of these patients, the primary tumor tissue remains unknown, even after a time consuming and costly workup. The Pathwork Tissue of Origin Test (Pathwork Diagnostics, Redwood City, CA, USA) is a gene expression test to aid in the diagnosis of metastatic, poorly differentiated and undifferentiated tumors. It measures the expression pattern of 1,550 genes in these tumors and compares it to the expression pattern of a panel of 15 known tumor types. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the performance of the Tissue of Origin Test in the diagnosis of primary sites for metastatic brain cancer patients. METHODS Fifteen fresh-frozen metastatic brain tumor specimens of known origins met specimen requirements. These specimens were entered into the study and processed using the Tissue of Origin Test. Results were compared to the known primary site and the agreement between the two results was assessed. RESULTS Fourteen of the fifteen specimens produced microarray data files that passed all quality metrics. One originated from a tissue type that was off-panel. Among the remaining 13 cases, the Tissue of Origin Test accurately predicted the available diagnosis in 12/13 (92.3%) cases. DISCUSSION This study demonstrates the accuracy of the Tissue of Origin Test when applied to predict the tissue of origin of metastatic brain tumors. This test could be a very useful tool for pathologists as they classify metastatic brain cancers.

Abstract
PURPOSE To provide recommendations for palliative treatment of brain metastases (BM) and leptomeningeal carcinomatosis (LC) in breast cancer patients with specific emphasis on radiooncologic aspects. METHODS The breast cancer expert panel of the German Society of Radiation Oncology (DEGRO) performed a comprehensive survey of the literature comprising national and international guidelines, lately published randomized trials, and relevant retrospective analyses. The search included publications between 1995-2008 (PubMed and Guidelines International Network [G-I-N]). Recommendations were devised according to the panel's interpretation of the evidence referring to the criteria of EBM. RESULTS Aim of any treatment of BM and LC is to alleviate symptoms and improve neurologic deficits. Close interdisciplinary cooperation facilitates rapid diagnosis and onset of therapy, tailored to the individual and clinical situation. Treatment decisions for BM should be based on the allocation to three prognostic groups defined by recursive partitioning analysis (RPA). Karnofsky Performance Score (KPS) is the strongest prognostic parameter. Together with the extent of the disease, KPS determines whether excision or radiosurgery/stereotactic radiotherapy is feasible and if exclusive or additional whole-brain radiotherapy (WBRT) is indicated. With adequate therapy, survival may be up to 3 years. For LC, treatment is mostly indicated for patients with positive cytology or in case of strongly indicative signs and symptoms. Radiotherapy (WBRT and involved-field irradiation of bulky spinal lesions) and chemotherapy (systemically or intrathecally applied methotrexate, thiotepa and cytarabine) are both effective and may prolong survival from several weeks to 4-6 months. CONCLUSION Radiotherapy is an effective tool for palliative treatment of BM and LC.

Abstract
Do steroids improve neurologic symptoms in patients with metastatic brain tumors compared to no treatment? If steroids are given, what dose should be used? Comparisons include: (1) steroid therapy versus none. (2) comparison of different doses of steroid therapy. Target population These recommendations apply to adults diagnosed with brain metastases. Recommendations Steroid therapy versus no steroid therapy Asymptomatic brain metastases patients without mass effect Insufficient evidence exists to make a treatment recommendation for this clinical scenario. Brain metastases patients with mild symptoms related to mass effect Level 3 Corticosteroids are recommended to provide temporary symptomatic relief of symptoms related to increased intracranial pressure and edema secondary to brain metastases. It is recommended for patients who are symptomatic from metastatic disease to the brain that a starting dose of 4–8 mg/day of dexamethasone be considered. Brain metastases patients with moderate to severe symptoms related to mass effect Level 3 Corticosteroids are recommended to provide temporary symptomatic relief of symptoms related to increased intracranial pressure and edema secondary to brain metastases. If patients exhibit severe symptoms consistent with increased intracranial pressure, it is recommended that higher doses such as 16 mg/day or more be considered. Choice of Steroid Level 3 If corticosteroids are given, dexamethasone is the best drug choice given the available evidence. Duration of Corticosteroid Administration Level 3 Corticosteroids, if given, should be tapered slowly over a 2 week time period, or longer in symptomatic patients, based upon an individualized treatment regimen and a full understanding of the long-term sequelae of corticosteroid therapy. Given the very limited number of studies (two) which met the eligibility criteria for the systematic review, these are the only recommendations that can be offered based on this methodology. Abstract
PURPOSE To determine the incidence, outcomes, and current strategies for management of brain metastases in patients with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive breast cancer. METHODS A literature review was performed to obtain data on central nervous system metastases in patients with breast cancer. RESULTS HER2 amplification/overexpression is a prognostic and predictive factor for the development of CNS metastases. Autopsy data show that the incidence rate for CNS metastases in patients with breast cancer is approximately 30%; this may be higher (ie, 30% to 50%) in patients with HER2-positive disease. Treatment with trastuzumab is not associated with an increased incidence of CNS metastases. Data from three phase III adjuvant trials showed the incidence was similar between patients who received trastuzumab and those who did not. Furthermore, trastuzumab can significantly improve overall survival in HER2-positive patients who already have CNS metastases compared with patients who do not receive trastuzumab or those who have HER2-negative brain metastases. This survival advantage is conferred via systemic control of the disease. The current standard of care for patients with CNS metastases is whole-brain radiotherapy (WBRT), with or without surgery, or stereotactic radiosurgery. In the future, novel therapies or combinations of therapies may additionally improve survival in these patients. CONCLUSION The incidence of CNS metastases in trastuzumab-treated patients is similar to that in all patients with HER2-positive disease. Trastuzumab can improve survival in patients with HER2-positive disease with CNS metastases.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients with metastatic central nervous system (mCNS) disease progression from breast cancer have a poor prognosis and often develop associated neurological complications. Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positivity status increases the risk of developing mCNS disease. Trastuzumab is an mAb that targets HER2 and is known to extend survival across all stages of HER2-positive breast cancer. DESIGN This review considers evidence from preclinical and clinical studies examining the value of continuing trastuzumab treatment in patients who develop mCNS disease. A wealth of data from clinical studies showed that trastuzumab prolonged survival in patients with mCNS disease, compared with no trastuzumab treatment, by effectively controlling their non-CNS disease. Trastuzumab has also been shown to penetrate an impaired blood-brain barrier to a limited degree, such as during radiotherapy, and intrathecal delivery of trastuzumab to the central nervous system (CNS) has shown promise. Research efforts are focussing on improving the delivery of trastuzumab to the CNS. CONCLUSION Evidence indicates that patients with mCNS disease from HER2-positive breast cancer should continue to receive trastuzumab to control HER2-positive metastases outside the CNS and receive established therapies to control the mCNS disease.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Brain metastases confer significant morbidity and a poorer survival in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Vascular endothelial growth factor-targeted antiangiogenic therapies (AAT) have demonstrated benefit for patients with metastatic NSCLC and are expected to directly inhibit the pathophysiology and morbidity of brain metastases, yet patients with brain metastases have been excluded from most clinical trials of AAT for fear of intracranial hemorrhage (ICH). The underlying risk of ICH from NSCLC brain metastases is low, but needs to be quantitated to plan clinical trials of AAT for NSCLC brain metastases. METHODS Data from MD Anderson Cancer Center Tumor Registry and electronic medical records from January 1998 to March 2006 was interrogated. Two thousand one hundred forty-three patients with metastatic NSCLC registering from January 1998 to September 2005 were followed till March 2006. Seven hundred seventy-six patients with and 1,367 patients without brain metastases were followed till death, date of ICH, or last date of study, whichever occurred first. RESULTS The incidence of ICH seemed to be higher in those with brain metastasis compared with those without brain metastases, in whom they occurred as result of cerebrovascular accidents. However, the rates of symptomatic ICH were not significantly different. All ICH patients with brain metastasis had received radiation therapy for them and had been free of anticoagulation. Most of the brain metastasis-associated ICH's were asymptomatic, detected during increased radiologic surveillance. The rates of symptomatic ICH, or other cerebrovascular accidents in general were similar and not significantly different between the two groups. CONCLUSIONS In metastatic NSCLC patients, the incidence of spontaneous ICH appeared to be higher in those with brain metastases compared with those without, but was very low in both groups without a statistically significant difference. These data suggest a minimal risk of clinically significant ICH for NSCLC brain metastasis patients and proposes having more well designed prospective trail to see the role of AAT in this patient population.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW To review the state-of-the-art and new developments in the management of patients with brain metastases. RECENT FINDINGS Treatment decisions are based on prognostic factors to maximize neurologic function and survival, while avoiding unnecessary therapies. Whole-brain radiotherapy (WBRT) is the treatment of choice for patients with unfavorable prognostic factors. Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) or surgery is indicated for patients with favorable prognostic factors and limited brain disease. In single brain metastasis, the addition of either stereotactic radiosurgery or surgery to WBRT improves survival. The omission of WBRT after surgery or radiosurgery results in a worse local and distant control, though it does not affect survival. The incidence of neurocognitive deficits in long-term survivors after WBRT remains to be defined. New approaches to avoid cognitive deficits following WBRT are being investigated. The role of chemotherapy is limited. Molecularly targeted therapies are increasingly employed. Prophylaxis with WBRT is the standard in small-cell lung cancer. SUMMARY Many questions need future trials: the usefulness of new radiosensitizers; the role of local treatments after surgery; and the impact of molecularly targeted therapies on subgroups of patients with specific molecular profiles. Quality of life and cognitive functions are recognized as major endpoints in clinical trials.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE : Recurrent brain metastases or new brain lesions after whole-brain radiotherapy represent a therapeutic challenge. While several treatment methods for single or few lesions have been described, options for multiple lesions are limited. This case report is intended to show an approach of whole-brain reirradiation with a simultaneous multifocal integrated boost using helical tomotherapy. Technique, feasibility, and acute side effects are presented. PATIENTS AND METHODS : Two patients with multiple relapsed brain metastases (eight and eleven lesions) were reirradiated after previous whole-brain radiotherapy (total dose of 40 Gy 18 months before). Whole-brain reirradiation was performed using helical tomotherapy with a total dose of 15 Gy (single dose 1.5 Gy) and a multifocal simultaneous integrated boost with a total dose of 30 Gy (single dose 3 Gy) to the brain lesions. The boost planning target volume was delineated around the lesions visible on MRI plus a 2-mm margin. Follow-up of these patients was 6 and 12 months. RESULTS : Radiation plans with excellent conformity and homogeneity were obtained. High dose exposure to normal brain tissue was kept minimal. Mean radiation time was 13 min. The only acute side effect observed was a mild headache over 2 days at the end of treatment. So far, no further side effects and no signs of recurrence have been observed. CONCLUSION : Helical tomotherapy offers new treatment options for the reirradiation of multiple brain metastases. The number of cases treated with the described protocol is very limited but it is considered a promising option for patients that have responded well to the initial radiotherapy and are in a good performance status.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Temozolomide (TMZ), an oral methylating imidazotetrazinone, has antitumor activity against gliomas, malignant melanomas, and brain metastasis and is presently administered as a 5-day oral schedule every 4 weeks. METHODS A single-institution phase 2 clinical trial was conducted to determine the efficacy and the safety profile of a new regimen based on a dose-intensified, protracted course of TMZ after whole-brain radiotherapy (WBRT). Patients were eligible if they had at least 1 bidimensionally measurable brain metastasis from breast cancer and nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Twenty-seven patients were treated with 30 grays (Gy) of WBRT with concomitant TMZ (75 mg/m(2)/day) for 10 days, and subsequent TMZ at a dose of 75 mg/m(2) per day for 21 days every 4 weeks, for up to 12 cycles. RESULTS Two complete responses (7.4%) and 11 partial responses (40.7%) were achieved. The schedule appeared to be well tolerated, with grade 3 toxicity (graded according to National Cancer Institute Common Toxicity Criteria) observed in only 2 patients. The overall median survival was 8.8 months and the median progression-free survival was 6 months. CONCLUSIONS The concomitant use of WBRT and protracted low-dose TMZ appears to be an active, well-tolerated regimen. The observed antitumor activity suggests the need for further investigation of this schedule in combination with other anticancer agents for the concomitant treatment of brain metastases and primary cancers.

Abstract
BACKGROUND New systemic treatments for advanced colorectal cancer have conferred a survival advantage, allowing patients to reach a median survival of almost 2 years. Due to this remarkable life extension, the incidence of brain metastases, though still low, is progressively increasing over time. There is little reported data on the optimal strategy to manage brain lesions from colorectal cancer. METHODS To explore the role of an aggressive approach to colorectal cancer brain metastases, we retrospectively collected and analyzed data from 30 patients who underwent neurosurgical resection + whole-brain radiotherapy between March 1998 and December 2006. Univariate (logrank) and multivariate (Cox's model) analyses were used to identify prognostic factors. RESULTS Median age at the time of surgery was 66 years, median ECOG PS was 1, most patients (87%) had concomitant lung and/or liver metastases. Median number of previous chemotherapies was two, with half of the patients being exposed both to oxaliplatin and irinotecan. A median of 27 Gy of radiotherapy were administered to 16 patients after resection. At the time of the analysis, 29 out of 30 patients had died, with a median survival time after brain metastasectomy of 167 days (8-682). Only one patient died within a month from surgery. Median survival was significantly longer in patients who received postsurgical radiotherapy (7.6 vs. 4.7 months, P = 0.014). CONCLUSIONS Neurosurgical management of symptomatic brain metastases from colorectal cancer is feasible, relatively safe, and offers a chance of prolonged survival. Patients who received radiotherapy after resection experienced a better outcome.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aims of this study were to show 1) the effect of changing from computed tomography (CT) to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) on the prevalence of detected brain metastases (BM) in patients with newly diagnosed small cell lung cancer (SCLC); 2) the difference in survival between patients with single and multiple BM; and 3) the effect of the change in patient labeling on eligibility for prophylactic brain irradiation. METHODS From 1980 to 2004, 481 consecutive patients with SCLC were enrolled. Brain imaging was routinely performed after diagnosis of SCLC. At the start of 1991, MRI replaced CT in almost all patients. All patients were regularly examined by a neurologist. RESULTS The prevalence of detected BM was 10% in the CT era and 24% in the MRI era. In the CT era, all detected BM were symptomatic, whereas in the MRI era, 11% were asymptomatic. In both periods, patients labeled as single BM survived longer than those labeled as multiple BM. For patients labeled as single BM or multiple BM, survival was longer in the MRI era than in the CT era. The proportion of patients who were eligible for prophylactic cranial irradiation was lower in the MRI era. CONCLUSIONS The estimated prevalence of BM increases when MRI is used instead of CT. Patients with a detected single BM survive longer than patients with multiple BM. The apparently increased survival in the MRI era can be attributed to the "Will Rogers phenomenon". The use of MRI makes fewer patients eligible for prophylactic cranial irradiation.

Abstract
Evidence-based medicine (EBM) has become one of the pillars of modern medicine. There are many myths and misconceptions about EBM that retard its application into neurosurgical practice. We aim to dispel some of these. Neurosurgeons should cultivate sound EBM practice and strive to improve the available evidence base for neurosurgery. Although randomised controlled trials are not suitable to investigate many neurosurgical problems, this does not preclude practising EBM that requires consideration of the strongest available evidence at the time of clinical decision making. Although individualised analysis of primary sources of evidence gives the clearest analysis, the diversity and complexity of modern medicine means that it is difficult for clinicians to stay abreast of all EBM through this mechanism alone. The development of evidence-based practice guidelines by neurosurgeons is a practical alternative. We recommend that neurosurgical organisations and societies take up this challenge and develop EBM education programs, encouraging the practise of EBM by neurosurgeons and neurosurgical trainees.

Abstract
We present a case of leptomeningeal metastases in a 30-year-old man with an extragonadal germ cell tumor. The patient was referred to our hospital for treatment of an occipital brain metastasis. This lesion was resected, followed by whole brain radiotherapy and further chemotherapy, and a temporary complete remission was achieved. However, leptomeningeal recurrence developed, and despite salvage chemotherapy, the patient died of disease. Although multidisciplinary treatment is given to treat brain metastases of germ cell tumors, the patients’ prognosis has been unsatisfactory. The identification of a standard/effective treatment is required.
