Abstract
Recently developed chain walking (CW) catalysis is an elegant approach to produce materials with controllable structure and properties. However, there is still a lack in understanding of how the reaction mechanism influences the macromolecular structures. In this study, a series of dendritic polyethylenes (PE) synthesized by Pd-α-diimine-complex through CW catalysis (CWPE) is investigated by means of theory and experiment. Thereby, the exceptional ability of in situ tailoring polymer structure by varying synthesis parameters was exploited to tune the branching architecture, which allowed us to establish a precise relationship between synthesis, structure, and solution properties. The systematically produced polymers were characterized by state-of-the-art multidetector separation and neutron scattering experiments as well as atomic force microscopy to access molecular properties of CWPE. On a global scale, the CWPE appear in a worm-like conformation independently on the synthesis conditions. However, severe differences in their contraction factors suggested that CWPE differ substantially in topology. These observations were verified by NMR studies that showed that CWPE possess a constant total number of branches but varying branching distribution. Small angle neutron scattering experiments gave access to structural characteristics from global to segmental scale and revealed the unique heterogeneity of CWPE, which is predominantly based on differences in their dendritic side chains. The experimental data were compared to theoretical CW structures modeled with different reaction-to-walking probabilities. Simple theoretical arguments predict a crossover from dendritic to linear topologies yielding a structural range from purely linear to dendritic chain growth. Yet, comparison of theoretical and empirical scattering curves gave the first evidence that a transition state to worm-like topologies is actually experimentally accessible. This crossover regime is characterized by linear global features and dendritic local substructures contrary to randomly hyperbranched systems. Instead, the obtained CWPE systems have characteristics of disordered dendritic bottle brushes and can be adjusted by the walking rate/reaction probability of the catalyst.

Abstract
Bicyclic ether scaffolds are found in a variety of natural products and are of interest in probe and drug discovery. A palladium-catalyzed cascade reaction has been developed to provide efficient access to these scaffolds from readily available linear diene-diol substrates. A Pd redox-relay process is used strategically to transmit reactivity between an initial oxypalladative cyclization and a subsequent π-allyl-Pd cyclization at remote sites. The reaction affords a variety of bicyclic ether scaffolds with complete diastereoselectivity for cis-ring fusion.

Abstract
α-Diimine and related complexes of late transition metals such as palladium and nickel have been attracting continuing interest as single-site catalysts of ethylene homopolymerization to branched polyolefins, having challenging mechanical properties. The state-of-the art catalysts demonstrate promising catalytic activities, and enhanced thermal stabilities, affording polyethylenes with a variable degree of branching and, in addition, are able to incorporate polar co-monomers into polyethylene structures. At the same time, fundamental understanding of the structure-reactivity relationships of such catalysts mostly remains at the phenomenological level, due to the lack of experimental data on the solution structures of intermediates that drive the polymerization process. In this perspective, we discuss recent advances of α-diimine nickel based catalysts of ethylene polymerization, focusing on the relationships between the catalyst structures on the one hand, and their thermal stabilities and properties of the resulting polyethylene, on the other hand. In addition, some intriguing novel mechanistic findings of these catalyst systems are presented.

Abstract
A reaction between sodium 2-formylbenzenesulfonate and aniline revealed the near-quantitative (91%) formation of sodium-2-((phenylimino)methyl)benzenesulfonate L1. The identity of L1 was unambiguously ascertained using spectroscopic and analytical methods. The scope of this methodology was widened and various electron-donating amines were treated with sodium 2-formylbenzenesulfonate, and a small library of 6 imine ligands L2-L6 was generated. When L2 was treated with [(COD)PdMeCl], instead of the anticipated [L2PdMe(DMSO)] complex, the formation of [(DMSO)2Pd2Cl2Me2] Pd-Dim was observed. Nevertheless, the desired imino-methyl benzenesulfonate-ligated palladium complex [L2PdMe(Lu)] C1 was obtained by in situ abstraction of chloride and addition of bulky 2,6-lutidine as the donor group. The observation of characteristic Pd-Me protons at 0.06 ppm and the corresponding carbon at -8.1 ppm indicated the formation of C1. These 1D NMR observations were corroborated by 2D C-H correlation spectra and mass analysis, and the existence of C1 was unambiguously ascertained. Along the same lines, L4 and L5 were treated with a palladium precursor to produce [L4/5PdMe(Lu)]-type complexes C2-C3 in 55-84% yield, and their identity was established by using a combination of spectroscopic tools, analytical methods, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The synthetic utility of C1-C3 has been demonstrated by utilizing these complexes in the insertion polymerization of ethylene to polyethylene.

Abstract
The immune system is implicated in the pathology of neurodegenerative disorders. The C‐C chemokine receptor 2 (CCR2) is one of the key targets involved in the activation of the immune system. A suitable ligand for CCR2 could be a useful tool to study immune activation in central nervous system (CNS) disorders. Herein, we describe the synthesis, tritium radiolabelling, and preliminary in vitro evaluation in post‐mortem human brain tissue of a known potent small molecule antagonist for CCR2. The preparation of a tritium‐labelled analogue for the autoradiography (ARG) study gave rise to an intriguing and unexpected side reaction profile through a novel amination of ethanol and methanol in the presence of tritium. After successful preparation of the tritiated radioligand, in vitro ARG measurements on human brain sections revealed nonspecific binding properties of the selected antagonist in the CNS.

Abstract
Transition-metal-catalyzed copolymerization of olefins with polar monomers represents a challenge because of the large variety of substrate-induced side reactions. However, this approach also holds the potential for the direct synthesis of polar functionalized polyolefins with unique properties. After decades of research, only a few catalyst systems have been found to be suitable for this reaction. Some major advances in catalyst development have been made in the past five years. This Minireview summarizes some of the recent progress in the extensively studied Brookhart and Drent catalyst systems, as well as emerging alternative palladium and nickel catalysts.

Abstract
A new set of five unsymmetrical N,N'-diiminoacenaphthenes, 1-[2,6-{(4-FC6H4)2CH}2-4-NO2C6H4N]-2-(ArN)C2C10H6 (Ar = 2,6-Me2C6H3L1, 2,6-Et2C6H3L2, 2,6-iPr2C6H3L3, 2,4,6-Me3C6H2L4, 2,6-Et2-4-MeC6H2L5), have been synthesized and used to prepare their corresponding nickel(ii) halide complexes, LNiBr2 (Ni1-Ni5) and LNiCl2 (Ni6-Ni10). The molecular structures of Ni3(OH2) and Ni4 reveal distorted square pyramidal and tetrahedral geometries, respectively, while the 1H NMR spectra of all the nickel(ii) (S = 1) complexes show broad paramagnetically shifted peaks. Upon activation with either methylaluminoxane (MAO) or ethylaluminum sesquichloride (Et3Al2Cl2, EASC), Ni1-Ni10 displayed very high activities for ethylene polymerization with the optimal performance being observed using 2,6-dimethyl-containing Ni1 in combination with EASC (1.66 × 107 g PE mol-1 (Ni) h-1 at 50 °C) which produced high molecular weight plastomeric polyethylene (Mw = 3.93 × 105 g mol-1, Tm = 70.6 °C) with narrow dispersity (Mw/Mn = 2.97). Moreover, Ni1/EASC showed good thermal stability by operating effectively at an industrially relevant 80 °C with a level of activity (6.01 × 106 g of PE mol-1 (Ni) h-1) that exceeds previously disclosed N,N'-nickel catalysts under comparable reaction conditions. This improved thermal stability and activity has been ascribed to the combined effects imparted by the para-nitro and fluoride-substituted benzhydryl ortho-substituents.
