Abstract
The burgeoning demands for health care and human-machine interfaces call for the next generation of multifunctional integrated sensor systems with facile fabrication processes and reliable performances. Laser-induced graphene (LIG) with highly tunable physical and chemical characteristics plays vital roles in developing versatile skin-like flexible or stretchable sensor systems. This Progress Report presents an in-depth overview of the latest advances in LIG-based techniques in the applications of flexible sensors. First, the merits of the LIG technique are highlighted especially as the building blocks for flexible sensors, followed by the description of various fabrication methods of LIG and its variants. Then, the focus is moved to diverse LIG-based flexible sensors, including physical sensors, chemical sensors, and electrophysiological sensors. Mechanisms and advantages of LIG in these scenarios are described in detail. Furthermore, various representative paradigms of integrated LIG-based sensor systems are presented to show the capabilities of LIG technique for multipurpose applications. The signal cross-talk issues are discussed with possible strategies. The LIG technology with versatile functionalities coupled with other fabrication strategies will enable high-performance integrated sensor systems for next-generation skin electronics.

Abstract
Electronic skins (e-skins) have seen intense research and rapid development in the past two decades. To mimic the capabilities of human skin, a multitude of flexible/stretchable sensors that detect physiological and environmental signals have been designed and integrated into functional systems. Recently, researchers have increasingly deployed machine learning and other artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to mimic the human neural system for the processing and analysis of sensory data collected by e-skins. Integrating AI has the potential to enable advanced applications in robotics, healthcare, and human-machine interfaces but also presents challenges such as data diversity and AI model robustness. In this review, we first summarize the functions and features of e-skins, followed by feature extraction of sensory data and different AI models. Next, we discuss the utilization of AI in the design of e-skin sensors and address the key topic of AI implementation in data processing and analysis of e-skins to accomplish a range of different tasks. Subsequently, we explore hardware-layer in-skin intelligence before concluding with an analysis of the challenges and opportunities in the various aspects of AI-enabled e-skins.

Abstract
Stretchable electronics have experienced remarkable progress, especially in sensors and wireless communication systems, attributed to their ability to conformably contact with rough or uneven surfaces. However, the development of complex, multifunctional, and high-precision stretchable electronics faces substantial challenges, including instability at rigid-soft interfaces and incompatibility with traditional high-precision patterning technologies. Metallized electrospun nanofibers emerge as a promising conductive filler, offering exceptional stretchability, electrical conductivity, transparency, and compatibility with existing patterning technologies. Here, this review focuses on the fundamental properties, preparation processes, patterning technologies, and application scenarios of conductive stretchable composites based on metallized nanofibers. Initially, it introduces the fabrication processes of metallized electrospun nanofibers and their advantages over alternative materials. It then highlights recent progress in patterning technologies, including collector collection, vapor deposition with masks, and lithography, emphasizing their role in enhancing precision and integration. Furthermore, the review shows the broad applicability and potential influence of metallized electrospun nanofibers in various fields through their use in sensors, wireless systems, semiconductor devices, and intelligent healthcare solutions. Ultimately, this review seeks to spark further innovation and address the prevailing challenges in stretchable electronics, paving the way for future breakthroughs in this dynamic field.

Abstract
Flexible self-powered tactile sensors, with applications spanning wearable electronics, human-machine interaction, prosthetics, and soft robotics, offer real-time feedback on tactile interactions in diverse environments. Despite advances in their structural development, challenges persist in sensitivity and robustness, particularly when additional functionalities, such as high transparency and stretchability. In this study, we present a novel approach integrating a bionic fingerprint ring structure with a PVDF-HFP/AgNWs composite fiber electrode membrane, fabricated via 3D printing technology and electrospinning, respectively, yielding a triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG)-based self-powered tactile sensor. The sensor demonstrates high sensitivity (5.84 V/kPa in the 0-10 kPa range) and rapid response time (10 ms), attributed to the microring texture on its surface, and exhibits exceptional robustness, maintaining electrical output integrity even after 24,000 cycles of loading. These findings highlight the potential of the microring structures in addressing critical challenges in flexible sensor technology.

Abstract
With the arrival of the Internet of Things era, the demand for tactile sensors continues to grow. However, traditional sensors mostly require an external power supply to meet real-time monitoring, which brings many drawbacks such as short service life, environmental pollution, and difficulty in replacement, which greatly limits their practical applications. Therefore, the development of a passive self-power supply of tactile sensors has become a research hotspot in academia and the industry. In this review, the development of self-powered tactile sensors in the past several years is introduced and discussed. First, the sensing principle of self-powered tactile sensors is introduced. After that, the main performance parameters of the tactile sensors are briefly discussed. Finally, the potential application prospects of the tactile sensors are discussed in detail.

Abstract
Rapid advancements in flexible electronics technology propel soft tactile sensing devices toward high-level biointegration, even attaining tactile perception capabilities surpassing human skin. However, the inherent mechanical mismatch resulting from deficient biomimetic mechanical properties of sensing materials poses a challenge to the application of wearable tactile sensing devices in human-machine interaction. Inspired by the innate biphasic structure of human subcutaneous tissue, this study discloses a skin-compliant wearable iontronic triboelectric gel via phase separation induced by competitive hydrogen bonding. Solvent-nonsolvent interactions are used to construct competitive hydrogen bonding systems to trigger phase separation, and the resulting soft-hard alternating phase-locked structure confers the iontronic triboelectric gel with Young's modulus (6.8-281.9 kPa) and high tensile properties (880%) compatible with human skin. The abundance of reactive hydroxyl groups gives the gel excellent tribopositive and self-adhesive properties (peel strength > 70 N m-1). The self-powered tactile sensing skin based on this gel maintains favorable interface and mechanical stability with the working object, which greatly ensures the high fidelity and reliability of soft tactile sensing signals. This strategy, enabling skin-compliant design and broad dynamic tunability of the mechanical properties of sensing materials, presents a universal platform for broad applications from soft robots to wearable electronics.

Abstract
Haptic interactions between human and machines are essential for information acquisition and object manipulation. In virtual reality (VR) system, the haptic sensing device can gather information to construct virtual elements, while the haptic feedback part can transfer feedbacks to human with virtual tactile sensation. Therefore, exploring high-performance haptic sensing and feedback interface imparts closed-loop haptic interaction to VR system. This review summarizes state-of-the-art VR-related haptic sensing and feedback techniques based on the hardware parts. For the haptic sensor, we focus on mechanism scope (piezoresistive, capacitive, piezoelectric, and triboelectric) and introduce force sensor, gesture translation, and touch identification in the functional view. In terms of the haptic feedbacks, methodologies including mechanical, electrical, and elastic actuators are surveyed. In addition, the interactive application of virtual control, immersive entertainment, and medical rehabilitation is also summarized. The challenges of virtual haptic interactions are given including the accuracy, durability, and technical conflicts of the sensing devices, bottlenecks of various feedbacks, as well as the closed-loop interaction system. Besides, the prospects are outlined in artificial intelligence of things, wise information technology of medicine, and multimedia VR areas.

Abstract
In this work, we present a novel stretchable bimodal sensor that can simultaneously detect temperature and humidity changes based on poly-hydroxyethyl acrylate (PHEA) elastomer infused with 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate (EMIM-BF4) ionic liquid. The sensor exhibits high transparency, stability, and biocompatibility, as well as excellent mechanical and sensing properties. The sensor can achieve a maximum strain of 761%, a sensitivity of 4.5%/°C at room temperature, a detection range from -35 to 120 °C, and a response time of 10 ms. The sensor is able to provide acute response to movement of human hand at close range and can detect temperature changes as small as 0.004 °C in the range of 20-30 °C. The sensor also responds to humidity change, showing a high sensitivity to humidity change of 4.4%/RH% under the temperature of 30 °C. The sensor can be used for various applications in wearable electronics, human-machine interfaces, and soft robotics.

However, their large-area multiplexing utilizations are restricted by severe misrecognition between sensing nodes and high-density internal circuits. Here, we provide an electrical signal shielding strategy delivering a large-area multiplexing self-powered untethered triboelectric electronic skin (UTE-skin) with an ultralow misrecognition rate (0.20%). An omnidirectionally stretchable carbon black-Ecoflex composite-based shielding layer is developed to effectively attenuate electrostatic interference from wirings, guaranteeing low-level noise in sensing matrices. UTE-skin operates reliably under 100% uniaxial, 100% biaxial, and 400% isotropic strains, achieving high-quality pressure imaging and multi-touch real-time visualization. Smart gloves for tactile recognition, intelligent insoles for gait analysis, and deformable human-machine interfaces are demonstrated. This work signifies a substantial breakthrough in haptic sensing, offering solutions for the previously challenging issue of large-area multiplexing sensing arrays.

Abstract
The growing demand from the extended reality and wearable electronics market has led to an increased focus on the development of flexible human-machine interfaces (HMI). These interfaces require efficient user input acquisition modules that can realize touch operation, handwriting input, and motion sensing functions. In this paper, we present a systematic review of triboelectric-based contact localization electronics (TCLE) which play a crucial role in enabling the lightweight and long-endurance designs of flexible HMI. We begin by summarizing the mainstream working principles utilized in the design of TCLE, highlighting their respective strengths and weaknesses. Additionally, we discuss the implementation methods of TCLE in realizing advanced functions such as sliding motion detection, handwriting trajectory detection, and artificial intelligence-based user recognition. Furthermore, we review recent works on the applications of TCLE in HMI devices, which provide valuable insights for guiding the design of application scene-specified TCLE devices. Overall, this review aims to contribute to the advancement and understanding of TCLE, facilitating the development of next-generation HMI for various applications.

Abstract
Exploring flexible tactile sensors capable of recognizing surface information is significant for the development of virtual reality, artificial intelligence, soft robotics, and human-machine interactions (HMI). However, it is still a challenge for current tactile sensors to efficiently recognize the surface pattern information while maintaining the simplicity of the overall system. In this study, cantilever beam-like magnetized micropillars (MMPs) with height gradients are assembled as a position-registered array for rapid recognition of surface pattern information. After crossing the surface location with convex patterns, the deformed MMPs undergo an intrinsic oscillating process to induce damped electrical signals, which can then be converted to a frequency domain for eigenfrequency extraction. Via precisely defining the specific eigenfrequencies of different MMPs, position mapping is realized in crosstalk-free behavior even though all signals are processed by one communication channel and a pair of electrodes. With a customized LabVIEW program, the surface information (e.g., letters, numbers, and Braille) can be accurately reconstructed by the frequency sequence produced in a single scanning procedure. We expect that the proposed interface can be a convenient and powerful platform for intelligent surface information perception and an HMI system in the future.

Abstract
The demand for analytical tools for the analysis of low-concentration volume-limited samples has driven researchers to explore new analytical approaches. Mass spectrometry excels at trace analysis due to its high sensitivity and specificity, whereas ambient methods simplify, or completely eliminate sample preparation. Herein, we report a triboelectric nanogenerator-coated blade spray ambient mass spectrometry (TENG-CBS MS) method for the extraction, elution, and ionization of volume-limited, low-concentration small molecule drug samples with minimum sample preparation. Using a TENG device as the CBS power supply, we show it is possible to extract and analyze drug samples in a pulsed fashion at sub-nanogram to picogram levels with good stability and reproducibility. A wide range of analytes polarities were tested. Results indicated this method could also be useful for the analysis of low-level analytes in precious, volume limited samples in a simple single step.

Abstract
Incorporating perception into robots or objects holds great potential to revolutionize daily human life. To achieve this, critical factors include the design of an integrable three-dimensional (3D) soft sensor with self-powering capability, a wide working range, and tuneable functionalities. Here, we introduce a highly compressible 3D-printed soft magnetoelastic sensor with a wide strain sensing range. Inspired by the lattice metamaterial, which offers a highly porous structure with tuneable mechanical properties, we realized a remarkably compliant 3D self-powering sensor. Using magnetoelastic composite materials and 3D printing combined with sacrificial molding, a broad design space for constituent materials and structures is investigated, allowing for tuneable mechanical properties and sensor performances. These sensors are successfully integrated with two robotic systems as the robot operation and perception units, enabling robot control and recognition of diverse physical interactions with a user. Overall, we believe that this work represents a cornerstone for compliant 3D self-powered soft sensors, giving impetus to the development of advanced human-machine interfaces.

Abstract
Sensor matrices are essential in various fields including robotics, aviation, health care, and industrial machinery. However, conventional sensor matrix systems often face challenges such as limited reconfigurability, complex wiring, and poor robustness. To address these issues, we introduce a one-wire reconfigurable sensor matrix that is capable of conforming to three-dimensional curved surfaces and resistant to cross-talk and fractures. Our frequency-located technology, inspired by the auditory tonotopy, reduces the number of output wires from row × column to a single wire by superimposing the signals of all sensor units with unique frequency identities. The sensor units are connected through a shared redundant network, giving great freedom for reconfiguration and facilitating quick repairs. The one-wire frequency-located technology is demonstrated in two applications-a pressure sensor matrix and a pressure-temperature multimodal sensor matrix. In addition, we also show its potential in monitoring strain distribution in an airplane wing, emphasizing its advantages in simplified wiring and improved robustness.

Abstract
Soft transparent electrodes (TEs) have received tremendous interest from academia and industry due to the rapid development of lightweight, transparent soft electronics. Metallic micro-nano networks (MMNNs) are a class of promising soft TEs that exhibit excellent optical and electrical properties, including low sheet resistance and high optical transmittance, as well as superior mechanical properties such as softness, robustness, and desirable stability. They are genuinely interesting alternatives to conventional conductive metal oxides, which are expensive to fabricate and have limited flexibility on soft surfaces. This review summarizes state-of-the-art research developments in MMNN-based soft TEs in terms of performance specifications, fabrication methods, and application areas. The review describes the implementation of MMNN-based soft TEs in optoelectronics, bioelectronics, tactile sensors, energy storage devices, and other applications. Finally, it presents a perspective on the technical difficulties and potential future possibilities for MMNN-based TE development.

Abstract
In this paper, a knittle pressure sensor was designed and fabricated by coating graphene/Polyvinylidene Fluoride nanocomposite on the knitted polyester substrate. The coating was carried out by a dip-coating method in a nanocomposite solution. The microstructure, surface properties and electrical properties of coated layers were investigated. The sensors were tested under the application of different pressures, and the corresponding sensor signals were analyzed in terms of resistance change. It was observed that the change in resistance was 55% kPa-1 with a sensitivity limit of 0.25 kPa. The sensor model was created and simulated using COMSOL Multiphysics software, and the model data were favorably compared with the experimental results. This investigation suggests that graphene-based nanocomposites can be used in knittle pressure sensor applications.

Abstract
Silver nanofibers (Ag NFs) have gained considerable attention because of their high transmittance resulting from the size effect, excellent electrical conductivity, and mechanical properties. However, synthesizing high-quality Ag NFs remains a challenge. This paper reports a novel self-reducing solution that contains platinum nanoparticles for the rapid production of Ag NFs. The method involves generating the precursor NFs and heating them in air, which reduces silver nitrate to Ag NFs within a few minutes. The as-prepared solution is characterized by its simple preparation, cost-effectiveness, and broad applicability. Additionally, the use of high-pressure airflow to directly spin the solution and a complete self-reduction system that does not depend on external conditions broadens the application prospects of the as-developed solution. Furthermore, we provide insights into the self-reduction mechanism and guidance on the preparation of self-reducing solutions.

Enormous efforts have been dedicated to imparting stretchability/flexibility and softness to electronic devices through materials science and structural modifications that enable stable and comfortable integration of these devices with the curvilinear and soft human body. However, the optical properties of these devices are still in the early stages of consideration. By incorporating transparency, visual information from interfacing biological systems can be preserved and utilized for comprehensive clinical diagnosis with image analysis techniques. Additionally, transparency provides optical imperceptibility, alleviating reluctance to wear the device on exposed skin. This review discusses the recent advancement of transparent wearable electronics in a comprehensive way that includes materials, processing, devices, and applications. Materials for transparent wearable electronics are discussed regarding their characteristics, synthesis, and engineering strategies for property enhancements. We also examine bridging techniques for stable integration with the soft human body. Building blocks for wearable electronic systems, including sensors, energy devices, actuators, and displays, are discussed with their mechanisms and performances. Lastly, we summarize the potential applications and conclude with the remaining challenges and prospects.

Abstract
Tactile perception is the basis of human motion. Achieving artificial tactility is one of the challenges in the fields of smart robotics and artificial intelligence (AI), because touch emulation relies on high-performance pressure sensor arrays, signal reading, information processing, and feedback control. In this paper, we report an integrated intelligent tactile system (IITS) that is integrated with a humanoid robot to achieve human-like artificial tactile perception. The IITS is a closed-loop system that includes a multi-channel tactile sensing e-skin, a data acquisition and information processing chip, and a feedback control. With customized preset values of threshold pressures, the IITS-integrated robot can flexibly grasp various objects. The IITS has potential applications in the design of prosthetic hands, space manipulators, deep-sea exploration robots, and human-robot interactions.

Abstract
Artificial skin, also known as bioinspired electronic skin (e-skin), refers to intelligent wearable electronics that imitate the tactile sensory function of human skin and identify the detected changes in external information through different electrical signals. Flexible e-skin can achieve a wide range of functions such as accurate detection and identification of pressure, strain, and temperature, which has greatly extended their application potential in the field of healthcare monitoring and human-machine interaction (HMI). During recent years, the exploration and development of the design, construction, and performance of artificial skin has received extensive attention from researchers. With the advantages of high permeability, great ratio surface of area, and easy functional modification, electrospun nanofibers are suitable for the construction of electronic skin and further demonstrate broad application prospects in the fields of medical monitoring and HMI. Therefore, the critical review is provided to comprehensively summarize the recent advances in substrate materials, optimized fabrication techniques, response mechanisms, and related applications of the flexible electrospun nanofiber-based bio-inspired artificial skin. Finally, some current challenges and future prospects are outlined and discussed, and we hope that this review will help researchers to better understand the whole field and take it to the next level.

Abstract
Biomimetic materials have emerged as attractive and competitive alternatives for tissue engineering (TE) and regenerative medicine. In contrast to conventional biomaterials or synthetic materials, biomimetic scaffolds based on natural biomaterial can offer cells a broad spectrum of biochemical and biophysical cues that mimic the in vivo extracellular matrix (ECM). Additionally, such materials have mechanical adaptability, microstructure interconnectivity, and inherent bioactivity, making them ideal for the design of living implants for specific applications in TE and regenerative medicine. This paper provides an overview for recent progress of biomimetic natural biomaterials (BNBMs), including advances in their preparation, functionality, potential applications and future challenges. We highlight recent advances in the fabrication of BNBMs and outline general strategies for functionalizing and tailoring the BNBMs with various biological and physicochemical characteristics of native ECM. Moreover, we offer an overview of recent key advances in the functionalization and applications of versatile BNBMs for TE applications. Finally, we conclude by offering our perspective on open challenges and future developments in this rapidly-evolving field.

Abstract
Tactile sensors with high spatial resolution are crucial to manufacture large scale flexible electronics, and low crosstalk sensor array combined with advanced data analysis is beneficial to improve detection accuracy. Here, we demonstrated the photo-reticulated strain localization films (prslPDMS) to prepare the ultralow crosstalk sensor array, which form a micro-cage structure to reduce the pixel deformation overflow by 90.3% compared to that of conventional flexible electronics. It is worth noting that prslPDMS acts as an adhesion layer and provide spacer for pressure sensing. Hence, the sensor achieves the sufficient pressure resolution to detect 1 g weight even in bending condition, and it could monitor human pulse under different states or analyze the grasping postures. Experiments show that the sensor array acquires clear pressure imaging and ultralow crosstalk (33.41 dB) without complicated data processing, indicating that it has a broad application prospect in precise tactile detection.

Abstract
Gel-based triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) has demonstrated promising potentials in stretchable electronics owing to gel electrodes' intrinsic softness, stretchability, and conductivity. However, delamination between gel and elastomer layers in deformations remains a considerable challenge for gel-based TENG, which most often induces structure failure. Herein, gels are regarded as adhesives and further effectively enhances interfacial bonding strength by a rough interface in adhesives' view, which exploits gels' liquid-to-solid transformation. This method just needs surface roughness of elastomer, which avoids chemical modification. Moreover, this method is effective to both organogel with good stickiness and hydrogel with weak stickiness, demonstrating wide applicability to different gels. Owing to the tough gel/elastomer interfacial bonding, TENG-Rough largely solves delamination problem under various deformations and the corresponding output performances of TENG-Rough are also maintained, implying a robust stretchable TENG device for reliable energy harvesting. This work demonstrates a general and facile method to enhance interfacial bonding in an adhesives' way, which provides a view for addressing delamination problem in gel-based TENGs and other kinds of gel-based devices.

Abstract
The traditional κ-carrageenan (κCG)-based hydrogel obtained from hot water can rupture easily under mechanical loading. To address this vulnerability, here we presented a robust all-κCG hydrogel without employing the second synthetic network. By simply regulating the polymer chains from random coil to stiff chain conformation in NaOH/urea solvent system via the freeze-thawing process, the as-prepared hydrogel with homogeneous structure can display an enhanced stretchability from 42.1 to 156 %, while maintaining the similar fracture stress. Moreover, upon the stepwise mechanical training and subsequent incubation in KCl aqueous solution, more helical segments of κCG were aligned and involved into the association domains, thus leading to the increment in both the crystallinity and anisotropy. Consequently, a fast self-strengthening behavior occurred, and a more stretchable (fracture strain up to 396 %), strong (stress ∼ 0.55 MPa) and tough (∼1.52 MJ m-3) κCG hydrogel was obtained. In comparison to the traditional one, the fracture strain and toughness are increased by 8.5 and 11.5 times, respectively. In addition, this κCG hydrogel can demonstrate good recovery and shape-memory behaviors under medium deformation. Hence, this tough all-κCG hydrogel is expected to be tailored into the biomaterials as the wearable device, artificial tendon, and cartilage in the future.

Abstract
Because triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) convert mechanical energy into electricity, they are sustainable energy sources for powering a diverse range of intelligent sensing and monitoring devices. To enhance the electrical output of polymer-based TENGs, nanofillers are commonly incorporated into polymers. In this study, we developed a simple low-temperature process for preparing high-performance ceramic powder-based TENGs comprising electrospun fibrous surfaces based on poly(vinylidene difluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP) and dispersed Eu2O3-doped BaTiO3 nanofillers. Herein, we discuss the effect of the modified dielectric properties and transferred charge of the electrification film on the performance of the TENGs. After incorporating the Eu2O3-doped BaTiO3 nanofiller, the maximum output voltage of the 10 wt% Eu2O3-BaTiO3/PVDF-HFP electrospun-nanofiber TENG reached as high as 1004 V with a corresponding current density of 9.9 μA cm-2. The enhancement in the triboelectric properties of the Eu2O3-BaTiO3/PVDF-HFP electrospun-nanofiber TENGs was due to their high amounts of interface polarization and transferred charge, suggesting improved capture and storage of triboelectric electrons. These Eu2O3-BaTiO3/PVDF-HFP electrospun-nanofiber TENGs could harvest mechanical energy and power electronic devices; they were robust and not affected by the operating temperature or humidity. Furthermore, we used a fabricated device as a sensor for application as a light-emitting diode dimmer switch and for the tracking of leg movement.

Abstract
Wearable strain sensors have aroused increasing interest in human motion monitoring, even for the detection of small physiological signals such as joint movement and pulse. Stable monitoring of underwater human motion for a long time is still a notable challenge, as electronic devices can lose their effectiveness in a wet environment. In this study, a superhydrophobic and conductive knitted polyester fabric-based strain sensor was fabricated via dip coating of graphene oxide and polydimethylsiloxane micro/nanoparticles. The water contact angle of the obtained sample was 156°, which was retained above 150° under deformation (stretched to twice the original length or bent to 80°). Additionally, the sample exhibited satisfactory mechanical stability in terms of superhydrophobicity and conductivity after 300 abrasion cycles and 20 accelerated washing cycles. In terms of sensing performance, the strain sensor showed a rapid and obvious response to different deformations such as water vibration, underwater finger bending, and droplet shock. With the good combination of superhydrophobicity and conductivity, as well as the wearability and stretchability of the knitted polyester fabric, this wireless strain sensor connected with Bluetooth can allow for the remote monitoring of water sports, e.g., swimming, and can raise an alert under drowning conditions.

Abstract
The advancements in the areas of wearable devices and flexible electronic skin have led to the synthesis of scalable, ultrasensitive sensors to detect and differentiate multimodal stimuli and dynamic human movements. Herein, we reveal a novel architecture of an epidermal sensor fabricated by sandwiching the buckypaper between the layers of poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS). This mechanically robust sensor can be conformally adhered on skin and has the perception capability to detect real-time transient human motions and the multimodal mechanical stimuli of stretching, bending, tapping, and twisting. The sensor has feasibility for real-time health monitoring as it can distinguish a wide range of human physiological activities like breathing, gulping, phonation, pulse monitoring, and finger and wrist bending. This multimodal wearable epidermal sensor possesses an ultrahigh gauge factor (GF) of 9178 with a large stretchability of 56%, significant durability for 5000 stretching-releasing cycles, and a fast response/recovery time of 59/88 ms. We anticipate that this novel, simple, and scalable design of a sensor with outstanding features will pave a new way to consummate the requirements of wearable electronics, flexible touch sensors, and electronic skin.

Abstract
Recently, bioelectronic devices extensively researched and developed through the convergence of flexible biocompatible materials and electronics design that enables more precise diagnostics and therapeutics in human health care and opens up the potential to expand into various fields, such as clinical medicine and biomedical research. To establish an accurate and stable bidirectional bio-interface, protection against the external environment and high mechanical deformation is essential for wearable bioelectronic devices. In the case of implantable bioelectronics, special encapsulation materials and optimized mechanical designs and configurations that provide electronic stability and functionality are required for accommodating various organ properties, lifespans, and functions in the biofluid environment. Here, this study introduces recent developments of ultra-thin encapsulations with novel materials that can preserve or even improve the electrical performance of wearable and implantable bio-integrated electronics by supporting safety and stability for protection from destruction and contamination as well as optimizing the use of bioelectronic systems in physiological environments. In addition, a summary of the materials, methods, and characteristics of the most widely used encapsulation technologies is introduced, thereby providing a strategic selection of appropriate choices of recently developed flexible bioelectronics.

Abstract
To date, multifunctional sensors have aroused widespread concerns owing to their vital roles in the healthcare area. However, there are still significant challenges in the fabrication of functionalized integrated devices. In this work, hydrophobic-hydrophilic patterns are constructed on polyester-spandex-blended knitted fabric surface by the chemical click method, enabling accurate deposition of functionalized materials for sensitive and stable motion and humidity sensing. Representatively, a conductive silver nanowire (Ag NW) network was deliberately deposited on only the designated hydrophilic fabric surface to realize accurate, repeatable, and stable motion sensing. Such a Ag NWs sensor recorded a low electrical resistance (below 60 Ω), stable resistance cycling response (over 2000 cycles), and fast response time to humidity (0.46 s) during the sensing evaluation. In addition to experimental sensing, real human motions, such as mouth-opening and joint-flexing (wrist and neck), could also be detected using the same sensor. Similar promising outputs were also obtained over the humidity sensor fabricated over the same chemical click method, except the sensing material was replaced with polydopamine-modified carboxylated carbon nanotubes. The resultant sensor exhibits excellent sensitivity to not only experimentally adjusted environment humidity but also to the moisture content of breath and skin during daily activities. On top of all these, both sensors were fabricated over highly flexible fabric that offers high wearability, promising great application potential in the field of healthcare monitoring.

Abstract
Flexible strain sensors have been extensively studied for their potential value in monitoring human activity and health. However, it is still challenging to develop multifunctional flexible strain sensors with simultaneously high transparency, strong self-adhesion, fast self-healing and excellent tensile properties. In this study, we used N,N-dimethylacrylamide (DMA) in the imidazolium-based ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bis[(trifluoromethyl)sulfonyl] imide ([BMIM][Tf2N]) for "one-step" UV irradiation. A poly(N,N-dimethyl)acrylamide (PDMA) ion-conductive gel was prepared by site polymerization. Based on the good compatibility between PDMA and ionic liquid, the prepared ion-conductive gel has good transparency (∼90%), excellent stretchability (1080%), strong self-adhesion (67.57 kPa), fast self-healing (2 s at room temperature) and great antibacterial activity (∼99% bacterial killing efficiency). Moreover, the strain sensor based on the PDMA ion-conductive gel has good electromechanical performance and can detect different human motions. Based on the simple and easy-to-operate preparation method and the endowed multifunctionality of the PDMA ion-conductive gel, it has broad application prospects in the field of flexible electronic devices.

Abstract
Flexible pressure sensors that can maintain their pressure sensing ability with arbitrary deformation play an essential role in a wide range of applications, such as aerospace, prosthetics, robotics, healthcare, human–machine interfaces, and electronic skin. Flexible pressure sensors with diverse conversion principles and structural designs have been extensively studied. At present, with the development of 5G and the Internet of Things, there is a huge demand for flexible pressure sensor arrays with high resolution and sensitivity. Herein, we present a brief description of the present flexible pressure sensor arrays with different transduction mechanisms from design to fabrication. Next, we discuss the latest progress of flexible pressure sensor arrays for applications in human–machine interfaces, healthcare, and aerospace. These arrays can monitor the spatial pressure and map the trajectory with high resolution and rapid response beyond human perception. Finally, the outlook of the future and the existing problems of pressure sensor arrays are presented.

Abstract
Tear resistance is of vital importance in the fabrication and application of synthetic soft materials. However, the paradox of simultaneously improving the tearing energy and elasticity remains a huge challenge for conventional approaches. Here, inspired by the skin, we successfully constructed an extraordinary tear-resistant, superelastic elastomer by the introduction of nanosized polycyclodextrin into the elastomer network to form a slidable interpenetrate double network structure. The tearing energy of the SDEP elastomer is up to 274 KJ/m2, which is comparable to metals and alloys and increased more than 100 times compared with the chemically cross-linked elastomer. The fracture strain exceeded 3300%, which is hardly achieved by other materials with high tearing energy. This comprehensive improvement of antitearing and super elasticity property was achieved by (i) a slide ring effect to dissipate energy and blunt a crack tip; (ii) straightening and reorientation of the slidable double network to deflect the advancing of a crack tip; (iii) a double network sharing the load. These results provide a novel strategy to fabricate elastic, tear-resistant soft material, which may contribute to the practical application as tear-resistant flexible electronics and irregular-shaped stretchable devices.

Abstract
The triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) is an emerging technology that offers excellent potential for the conversion of mechanical energy from rain into electricity for hybrid energy applications. However, a high-performance TENG is yet to be achieved because a quantitative analysis method for the energy conversion process is still lacking. Herein, a quantitative analysis method, termed the "kinetic energy calculation and current integration" (KECCI) method, which significantly improves the understanding of the mechanical-to-electrical energy conversion process, is presented. Based on the KECCI method, a high-performance TENG is developed by systematically optimizing a biomimetic surface structure and instant switch design, with 1.25 mA short-circuit current (Isc ), 150 V open-circuit voltage (Voc ), and a high energy-conversion efficiency of 24.89%. Furthermore, a multilayered TENG device is proposed for continuously harvesting the kinetic energy of raindrops for further improvement in the energy-conversion efficiency. Finally, the multilayered TENGs are integrated with organic photovoltaics, achieving all-weather energy harvesting. This work presents a validated theoretical basis that will guide further development of TENGs toward higher performances, which will promote the commercialization of hybrid TENG systems for all-weather applications.

Abstract
In order to further improve the detection performance of the wearable heart rate sensor for human physiological and biochemical signals and body kinematics performance, the wearable heart rate sensor module was optimized by using nanofibers. Nanoparticle-doped graphene films were prepared by adding nanoparticles to a graphene oxide solution. The prepared film was placed in toluene, and the nanoparticles were removed to complete the preparation of a graphene film with a porous microstructure. The graphene film and the conductive film together formed a wearable heart rate sensor module. The strain response test of the porous graphene film wearable heart rate sensor module verifies the validity of the research in this paper. The resistance change of the wearable heart rate sensor module based on the PGF-2 film is 8 to 16 times higher than that of the RGO film, and the sensitivity is better, proving that the sensor module designed by this method shows significant application potential in human motion detection.

Abstract
It has become a scientific obligation to unveil the underlying mechanisms and the fabrication methods behind wearable/stretchable strain sensors based on intelligent nanomaterials in order to explore their possible potential in the field of biomedical and healthcare applications. This report is based on an extensive literature survey of fabrication of stretchable strain sensors (SSS) based on nanomaterials in the fields of healthcare, sports, and entertainment. Although the evolution of wearable strain sensors (WSS) is rapidly progressing, it is still at a prototype phase and various challenges need to be addressed in the future in special regard to their fabrication protocols. The biocalamity of COVID-19 has brought a drastic change in humans' lifestyles and has negatively affected nations in all capacities. Social distancing has become a mandatory rule to practice in common places where humans interact with each other as a basic need. As social distancing cannot be ruled out as a measure to stop the spread of COVID-19 virus, wearable sensors could play a significant role in technologically impacting people's consciousness. This review article meticulously describes the role of wearable and strain sensors in achieving such objectives.

Abstract
As a classic flexible material, hydrogels show great potential in wearable electronic devices. The application of strain sensors prepared using them in human health monitoring and humanoid robotics is developing rapidly. However, it is still a challenge to fabricate a high-toughness, large-tensile-deformation, strain-sensitive. and human-skin-fit hydrogel with the integration of excellent mechanical properties and high electrical conductivity. In this study, a flexible sensor using a highly strain-sensitive skin-like hydrogel with acrylamide and sodium alginate was designed using liquid metallic gallium as a "reactive" conductive filler. The sensor had a low elastic modulus (30 kPa) similar to that of skin, a high-toughness (2.25 MJ m-3), self-stiffness, a large tensile deformation (1400%), recoverability, and excellent fatigue resistance. Moreover, the addition of gallium might enhance the electrical conductivity (1.9 S m-1) of the hydrogel while maintaining high transparency, and the flexible sensor device constructed from it showed high sensitivity to strain (gauge factor = 4.08) and pressure (gauge factor = 0.455 kPa-1). As a result, the hydrogel sensor could monitor various human motions, including large-scale joint bending and tiny facial expression, breathing, voice recognition, and handwriting. Furthermore, it might even be used for human-computer communication.

Abstract
With the extensive applications of portable, wearable, and stretchable electronics, the fiber triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) has been developed particularly and rapidly. However, variable stiffness or even switchable stiffness for the fiber TENG is also urgently needed in some specific service conditions. Here, the functional, reconfigurable fiber TENG is presented for harvesting mechanical energy and self-powered sensors. It is mainly composed of soft tubes with filled low-melting-point alloy (LMPA), conductive wire, and electrically heated wire. Under an input frequency of 3 Hz, this fiber TENG produces a maximum peak power density of 348.5 μW/m. Due to its excellent reconfigurable characteristics, it can be switched back and forth in many different application situations. It can be intelligently used not only as a self-powered tactile and mechanical sensor but also as a self-powered splint for postdisaster relief work. Besides, the cracking detection of a gear and a lead screw is also realized using this fiber TENG. This work strongly promotes the application of variable stiffness LMPAs in the TENG, especially for the reconfigurable fiber TENG. It also promotes the potential self-powered applications of the TENG in the fields of sensors and detection, such as mechanical flaw detection and self-powered tactile detection.

Abstract
Soft interfaces with self-sensing capabilities play an essential role in environment awareness and reaction. The growing overlap between materials and sensory systems has created a myriad of challenges for sensor integration, including the design of a multimodal sensory, simplified system design capable of high spatiotemporal sensing resolution and efficient processing methods. Here we report a bioinspired soft sensor array (BOSSA) that integrates pressure and material sensing capabilities based on the triboelectric effect. Cascaded row + column electrodes embedded in low-modulus porous silicone rubber allow rich information to be captured from the environment and further analyzed by data-driven algorithms (multilayer perceptrons) to extract higher level features. BOSSA demonstrates the ability to identify 10 users (98.9%) and identify the placement or extraction of 10 objects (98.6%). Moreover, its scalable fabrication facilitates large-area sensor arrays with high spatiotemporal resolution and multimodal sensing abilities yet with a less complex system architecture. These features may be promising in the development of immersive sensing networks for intelligent monitoring and stimuli response in smart home/industry applications.

Abstract
The application of flexible electronics in the field of communication has made the transition from rigid physical form to flexible physical form. Flexible electrode technology is the key to the wide application of flexible electronics. However, flexible electrodes will break when large deformation occurs, failing flexible electronics. It restricts the further development of flexible electronic technology. Flexible stretchable electrodes are a hot research topic to solve the problem that flexible electrodes cannot withstand large deformation. Flexible stretchable electrode materials have excellent electrical conductivity, while retaining excellent mechanical properties in case of large deformation. This paper summarizes the research results of flexible stretchable electrodes from three aspects: material, process, and structure, as well as the prospects for future development.

Abstract
Human-machine interaction (HMI) systems are widely used in the healthcare field, and they play an essential role in assisting the rehabilitation of patients. Currently, a large number of HMI-related research studies focus on piezoresistive sensors, self-power sensors, visual and auditory receivers, and so forth. These sensing modalities do not possess high reliability with regard to breathing condition detection. The humidity signal conveyed by breathing provides excellent stability and a fast response; however, humidity-based HMI systems have rarely been studied. Herein, we integrate a humidity sensor and a graphene thermoacoustic device into a humidity-based HMI system (HHMIS), which is capable of monitoring respiratory signals and emitting acoustic signals. HHMIS has a practical value in healthcare to assist patients. For example, it works as a prewarning system for respiratory-related disease patients with abnormal respiratory rates, and as an artificial throat device for aphasia patients. Achieved based on a laser direct writing technology, this wearable device features low cost, high flexibility, and can be prepared on a large scale. This portable non-contact HMMIS has broad application prospects in many fields such as medical health and intelligent control.

Abstract
Multifunctional electronic skins have attracted considerable attention for soft electronics including humanoid robots, wearable devices, and health monitoring systems. Simultaneous detection of multiple stimuli in a single self-powered device is desired to simplify artificial somatosensory systems. Here, inspired by the structure and function of human skin, an ultrasensitive self-powered multimodal sensor is demonstrated based on an interlocked ferroelectric copolymer microstructure. The triboelectric and pyroelectric effects of ferroelectric microstructures enable the simultaneous detection of mechanical and thermal stimuli in a spacer-free single device, overcoming the drawbacks of conventional devices, including complex fabrication, structural complexity, and high-power consumption. Furthermore, the interlocked microstructure induces electric field localization during ferroelectric polarization, leading to enhanced output performance. The multimodal tactile sensor provides ultrasensitive pressure and temperature detection capability (2.2 V kPa-1 , 0.27 nA °C-1 ) over a broad range (0.1-98 kPa, -20 °C < ΔT < 30 °C). Furthermore, multiple simultaneous stimuli can be distinguished based on different response times of triboelectric and pyroelectric effects. The remarkable performance of this sensor enables real-time monitoring of pulse pressure, acoustic wave detection, surface texture analysis, and profiling of multiple stimuli.

Abstract
Cellulose fiber (CelF) is a biodegradable and renewable material with excellent performance but negligible triboelectric polarizability. Methods to enhance and rationally tune the triboelectric properties of CelF are needed to further its application for energy harvesting. In this work, methyl-orange-doped polypyrrole (MO-PPy) was in situ coated on CelF as a mediating layer to promote the growth of metal–organic framework ZIF-8 and to construct a cellulose-based triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG). The results showed that a small amount of MO-PPy generated in situ significantly promoted the growth of ZIF-8 on CelF, and the ZIF-8 deposition ratio was able to increase from 7.8% (ZIF-8/CelF) to 31.8% (ZIF-8/MO-PPy@CelF). ZIF-8/MO-PPy@CelF remained electrically conductive and became triboelectrically positive, and the triboelectricity’s positivity was improved with the increase in the ZIF-8 deposition ratio. The cellulose-based TENG constructed with ZIF-8/MO-PPy@CelF (31.8% ZIF-8 deposition ratio) and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) could generate a transfer charge of 47.4 nC, open-circuit voltage of 129 V and short-circuit current of 6.8 μA—about 4 times higher than those of ZIF-8/CelF (7.8% ZIF-8 deposition ratio)—and had excellent cycling stability (open-circuit voltage remained almost constant after 10,000 cycles). MO-PPy not only greatly facilitated the growth of ZIF-8 on CelF, but also acted as an electrode active phase for TENG. The novel TENG based on ZIF-8/MO-PPy@CelF composite has cheerful prospects in many applications, such as self-powered supercapacitors, sensors and monitors, smart pianos, ping-pong tables, floor mats, etc.

Abstract
With the rapid development of society in recent decades, the wearable sensor has attracted attention for motion-based health care and artificial applications. However, there are still many limitations to applying them in real life, particularly the inconvenience that comes from their large size and non-flexible systems. To solve these problems, flexible small-sized sensors that use body motion as a stimulus are studied to directly collect more accurate and diverse signals. In particular, tactile sensors are applied directly on the skin and provide input signals of motion change for the flexible reading device. This review provides information about different types of tactile sensors and their working mechanisms that are piezoresistive, piezocapacitive, piezoelectric, and triboelectric. Moreover, this review presents not only the applications of the tactile sensor in motion sensing and health care monitoring, but also their contributions in the field of artificial intelligence in recent years. Other applications, such as human behavior studies, are also suggested.

Abstract
With the demand for accurately recognizing human actions and environmental situations, multifunctional sensors are essential elements for smart applications in various emerging technologies, such as smart robots, human-machine interface, and wearable electronics. Low-dimensional materials provide fertile soil for multifunction-integrated devices. This review focuses on the multifunctional sensors for mechanical stimulus and environmental information, such as strain, pressure, light, temperature, and gas, which are fabricated from low-dimensional materials. The material characteristics, device architecture, transmission mechanisms, and sensing functions are comprehensively and systematically introduced. Besides multiple sensing functions, the integrated potential ability of supplying energy and expressing and storing information are also demonstrated. Some new process technologies and emerging research areas are highlighted. It is presented that optimization of device structures, appropriate material selection for synergy effect, and application of piezotronics and piezo-phototronics are effective approaches for constructing and improving the performance of multifunctional sensors. Finally, the current challenges and direction of future development are proposed.

Abstract
A patterned transparent electrode is a crucial component of state-of-the-art wearable devices and optoelectronic devices. However, most of the patterning methods using silver nanowires (AgNWs), which is one of the outstanding candidate materials for the transparent electrode, wasted a large amount of unused AgNWs during the patterning process. Here, we report a highly efficient patterning of AgNWs using electrospray deposition with grounded electrolyte solution (EDGE). During electrospray deposition, a patterned electrolyte solution collector attracted AgNWs by strong electrostatic attraction and selectively deposited them only on the patterned collector, minimizing AgNW deposited elsewhere. The enhanced patterning efficiency was verified through a comparison between the EDGE and conventional process by numerical simulation and experimental validation. As a result, despite the same electrospray deposition conditions for both cases except for the existence of the electrolyte solution collector, the coverage ratio of AgNWs fabricated by the EDGE process was at least six times higher than that of AgNWs produced by the conventional process. Furthermore, the EDGE process provided high design flexibility in terms of not only the material of the substrate, including a polymer and a ceramic but also the shape of the substrate, including a 2D flat and 3D curved surface. As an application of the EDGE process, a self-powered touch sensor exploiting the triboelectric effect was demonstrated. Thus, the EDGE process would be utilized in further application in wearable or implantable devices in the field of biomedicine, intelligent robots, and human-machine interface.

Abstract
Skin-mountable devices that can directly measure various biosignals and external stimuli and communicate the information to the users have been actively studied owing to increasing demand for wearable electronics and newer healthcare systems. Research on skin-mountable devices is mainly focused on those materials and mechanical design aspects that satisfy the device fabrication requirements on unusual substrates like skin and also for achieving good sensing capabilities and stable device operation in high-strain conditions. 2D materials that are atomically thin and possess unique electrical and optical properties offer several important features that can address the challenging needs in wearable, skin-mountable electronic devices. Herein, recent research progress on skin-mountable devices based on 2D materials that exhibit a variety of device functions including information input and output and in vitro and in vivo healthcare and diagnosis is reviewed. The challenges, potential solutions, and perspectives on trends for future work are also discussed.

Abstract
Flexible tactile sensors capable of measuring mechanical stimuli via physical contact have attracted significant attention in the field of human-interactive systems. The utilization of tactile information can complement vision and/or sound interaction and provide new functionalities. Recent advancements in micro/nanotechnology, material science, and information technology have resulted in the development of high-performance tactile sensors that reach and even surpass the tactile sensing ability of human skin. Here, important advances in flexible tactile sensors over recent years are summarized, from sensor designs to system-level applications. This review focuses on the representative strategies based on design and material configurations for improving key performance parameters including sensitivity, detection range/linearity, response time/hysteresis, spatial resolution/crosstalk, multidirectional force detection, and insensitivity to other stimuli. System-level integration for practical applications beyond conceptual prototypes and promising applications, such as artificial electronic skin for robotics and prosthetics, wearable controllers for electronics, and bidirectional communication tools, are also discussed. Finally, perspectives on issues regarding further advances are provided.

Abstract
In the field of biomimetic electronics, flexible sensors with both high resolution and large size are attracting a lot of attention. However, attempts to increase the number of sensor pixels have been thwarted by the need for complex inner circuits and the resulting interferences with the output. Technological challenges, such as real-time spatiotemporal mapping and long-time reliability, must be resolved for large-scale sensor matrices. This paper reports a simple and robust sensor with an arch-bridge architecture (ABA) to address these challenges. The device, which consists of an anti-icing all-transparent material system, is fabricated by immobilizing ABA ionic arrays on predefined grooves on the substrate. It systematically integrates ABA structure-designing, resistance-position-sensing, and parallel-addressing logic, allowing for an improvement of three orders of magnitude in the scanning speed (million-scale pixels) without logical "diagnose confusion." In addition, it can withstand 100 000 stretching cycles without functional failure. It is also resistant to interferences from stretching. humidity, wet surfaces, and power lines. The proposed strategy is envisaged to serve as a general solution for high-density, large-area tactile sensors in various applications.
