Abstract
A method for aromatic halogenation using a combination of elemental sulfur (S8) and N-halosuccinimide has been developed. A catalytic quantity of elemental sulfur (S8) with N-bromosuccinimide (NBS) and N-chlorosuccinimide (NCS) effectively halogenated less-reactive aromatic compounds, such as ester-, cyano-, and nitro-substituted anisole derivatives. No reaction occurred in the absence of S8, underscoring its crucial role in the catalytic activity. This catalytic system was also applicable to aromatic iodination with 1,3-diiodo-5,5-dimethylhydantoin.

Abstract
We have developed a mild sulfenylation of pyrrolo[2,1-a]isoquinolines with acetyl bromide and dimethyl sulfoxide. A wide range of functionalized pyrrolo[2,1-a]isoquinolines could be prepared efficiently through the formation of a C-S bond with thiophenols (27 examples, 36-94% yields). The current strategy can also be utilized for functionalization of pyrrolo[1,2-a]quinolines and indole.

Abstract
Engineering active sites of metal nanoparticle-based heterogeneous catalysts is one of the most prerequisite approaches for the efficient production of chemicals, but the limited active sites and undesired oxidation on the metal nanoparticles still remain as key challenges. Here, it is reported that the negatively charged surface of copper nanoparticles on the 2D [Ca2 N]+ ∙e- electride provides the unrestricted active sites for catalytic selective sulfenylation of indoles and azaindoles with diaryl disulfides. Substantial electron transfer from the electride support to copper nanoparticles via electronic metal-support interactions results in the accumulation of excess electrons at the surface of copper nanoparticles. Moreover, the surface-accumulated excess electrons prohibit the oxidation of copper nanoparticle, thereby maintaining the metallic surface in a negatively charged state and activating both (aza)indoles and disulfides under mild conditions in the absence of any further additives. This study defines the role of excess electrons on the nanoparticle-based heterogeneous catalyst that can be rationalized in versatile systems.

Abstract
AbstractWe present a simple and convenient method for the generation of sulfenyl electrophiles from peptides containing S–S or S–H bonds by employing N-chlorosuccinimide. The corresponding sulfenyl electrophiles are further utilized in 5- and 6-endo-dig cyclization reactions yielding indolizinium salts, indoles, benzo[b]furans, polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and isocoumarins, as well as quinolinones bearing a glutathione moiety. PAH derivatives can be used as selective fluorescent dyes for the visualization of lipid droplets in living cells.

Abstract
A metal-free method for the synthesis of heterodifunctional indole derivatives is developed through TBHP/KI-mediated oxidative coupling. The reaction constructs C-O and C-C bonds in succession with the help of tert-butyl peroxy radicals generated by the TBHP/KI catalytic system, enabling the direct realization of the heterodifunctionalization of indole in one pot. The product of this reaction is a novel heterodifunctional compound. This work might provide a new effective method for the synthesis of polycyclic indole compounds.

Abstract
A simple, efficient, and practical sulfenylation at the C2 position of N-tosylindoles under mild conditions was developed. The designed transformation is based on the reaction of N-tosylindoles with BuLi and S-alkyl, and S-aryl phosphorodithioates or thiotosylates to produce 2-sulfenylindoles in moderate to high yields. The presence of additional hydroxy, carboxy, or amino functionalities did not disturb the formation of products.

Abstract
A versatile and efficient method for the synthesis of 3-chalcogenyl-indoles from indoles and dichalcogenides employing t-BuOK as a promoter at room temperature has been achieved. The present protocol exhibited a broad functional group tolerance. Diverse 3-sulfenyl- and 3-selenyl-indoles were rapidly obtained in good to excellent yields with high regioselectivities. It is noteworthy that this transformation was applicable to N-protected and N-unprotected indoles, allowing N-deprotection and C3-chalcogenylation of indoles in one step.

Abstract
The first example of the direct halosulfenylation of benzo[b]furans with commercially available disulfides and N-halosuccinimides has been achieved, providing an efficient metal-free synthetic pathway to access diverse 3-halo-2-thiobenzo[b]furans in moderate to excellent yields. In particular, a halogen (e.g., bromo or iodo) substituent on the benzo[b]furan ring is amenable for further synthetic elaborations thereby broadening the diversity of the products.

Abstract
Cooperative cascade catalysis by bovine serum albumin (BSA)-iodine allows for the first time the performance of C(sp(2))-H sulfenylation of indole from readily available thiophenol (-SH bond) via in situ generation/cleavage of disulfide (S-S bond) in air under aqueous conditions, whereas BSA or I2 individually do not permit this two step sequence to occur in the same pot towards C-S bond formation. This green cooperative protocol is extendable to sulfenylation of hydroxyaryls (i.e. 2-naphthol or 4-hydroxycoumarin) with diverse thiols (aryl/heteroaryl) without using any toxic metal catalysts, bases or oxidants, thus rendering the process environmentally and economically reliable. Further, the gram scale synthesis of a COX-2 inhibitor (3-(pyridin-2-ylthio)-1H-indole), regioselectivity and recyclability (up to four cycles) are the additional merits of this cooperative cascade bio-chemocatalytic (BSA-I2) protocol. Moreover, HPLC and ESI-MS provide powerful insights into the mechanistic aspects of the above cascade sulfenylation reaction.

Abstract
Metal-free C-H thioarylation of arenes and heteroarenes using methyl sulfoxides constitutes a general protocol for the synthesis of high value diaryl sulfides. The coupling of arenes and heteroarenes with in situ activated sulfoxides is regioselective, uses readily available starting materials, is operationally simple, and tolerates a wide range of functional groups.

Abstract
An acid/DEAD system for oxidative cleavage of S–S and Se–Se bonds to generate chalcogenium ions has been developed. These ions could be captured by nucleophile-tethered alkenes and nucleophilic aryl reagents such as arylboronic acids and arenes to give chalcogenides.

Abstract
A dual vicinal functionalisation cascade involving the union of heterocycles and allyl sulfoxides is described. In particular, the approach provides efficient one-step access to biologically relevant and synthetically important C3 thio, C2 carbo substituted indoles. The reaction operates under mild, metal free conditions and without directing groups, via an interrupted Pummerer coupling of activated allyl sulfoxides, generating allyl heteroaryl sulfonium salts that are predisposed to a charge accelerated [3,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement.
