Abstract
An efficient and operationally simple method for the synthesis of β-keto sulfones through the BF3·OEt2-promoted reaction of alkynes and sodium sulfinates is developed. With its facile and selective access to the targets, it features good functional group compatibility, mild conditions, easily available starting materials, and good yields. Notably, the reaction does not require metal catalysts or chemical reagents with pungent odors.

Abstract
Harnessing visible-light in organic synthesis is one of the most effective methods that aligns with green and sustainable chemistry principles and hence skyrocketed in the last two decades. Similarly, three-component 1,2-dicarbofunctionalization of alkenes and alkynes has recently been a great choice to construct complex molecular systems in an easy and rapid manner. Therefore, light-induced reactions can be an excellent alternative to carry out 1,2-dicarbofunctionalization reactions, and very recently, organic chemists across the globe have fascinated us with their interesting articles. In this present review, we have summarized the recent advancements in the area of visible light induced three-component 1,2-dicarbofunctionalization of alkenes and alkynes till March 2023. We have categorized the discussion based on the catalysts used to carry out the transformations for better understanding and different important aspects of these transformations have also been covered.

Abstract
Different addition modes of sulfinic acids were developed for the chemodivergent sulfonylation of enynones, where the ionic sulfonylation to an alkyne moiety of enynones was effected through a salt-controlled syn-addition pathway. The radical sulfonylation of an alkene moiety also provided the stereodefined sulfonylated alkenes. A one-pot tandem sequence of the Ti(Oi-Pr)4-catalyzed α-vinyl aldol condensation of (E)-β-chlorovinyl ketones followed by the chemodivergent sulfonylations was also explored, allowing for ready access to highly substituted dienes and enynes.

Abstract
Alkene and alkyne difunctionalization is a flexible process that allows the construction of two functional groups simultaneously in one step. On the other hand, carbosilylation, an ingenious difunctionalization pathway to concurrently incorporate both a silyl group and an organic functional group (alkyl, (hetero)aryl, alkenyl, alkynyl and allenyl) across a carbon-carbon multiple-bond system, is achieving immense interest in recent days. This review article provides a decade's update on the discoveries and developments in the synthesis of carbosilylated products from two very important carbon-carbon unsaturated substrates, alkenes and alkynes.

Abstract
Photoredox catalysis has demonstrated rapid evolution in the field of synthetic organic chemistry. On the other hand, the splendour of cascade reactions in providing complex molecular architectures renders them a cutting-edge research area. Therefore, the merging of photocatalysis with cascade synthesis brings out a synthetic paradigm with immense potential. The development of photocascade catalysis for a target molecule with a particular molecular skeleton and stereochemical framework presents certain challenges but provides a robust and environmentally benign synthetic alternative. This comprehensive review assembles all the accomplishments and highlights of visible-light-induced cascade reactions with literature coverage up to October 2022.

Abstract
A series of optically active β-hydroxy sulfones has been obtained through an oxosulfonylation-stereoselective reduction sequence in aqueous medium. Firstly, β-keto sulfones were synthesized from arylacetylenes and sodium sulfinates to subsequently develop the carbonyl reduction in a highly selective fashion using alcohol dehydrogenases as biocatalysts. Optimization of the chemical oxosulfonylation reaction was investigated, finding inexpensive iron(III) chloride hexahydrate (FeCl3 ⋅ 6H2 O) as the catalyst of choice. The selection of isopropanol in the alcohol-water media resulted in high compatibility with the enzymatic process for enzyme cofactor recycling purposes, providing a straightforward access to both (R)- and (S)-β-hydroxy sulfones. The practical usefulness of this transformation was illustrated by describing the synthesis of a chiral intermediate of Apremilast. Interestingly, the development of a chemoenzymatic cascade approach avoided the isolation of β-keto sulfone intermediates, which allowed the preparation of chiral β-hydroxy sulfones in high conversion values (83-94 %) and excellent optical purities (94 to >99 % ee).

Abstract
A dioxygen-triggered oxosulfonylation/sulfonylation of unactivated olefins to achieve β-keto sulfones/sulfones has been developed. Interestingly, pluralistic mechanisms were found when different types of compounds were applied as substrates, and different products were achieved. The reaction is carried out with a high atomic efficiency in the absence of a metal and a catalyst at room temperature under an air atmosphere. Importantly, as a proof-of-concept, a bioactive molecule was synthesized on a gram-scale level using this method.

Abstract
The direct difunctionalization of inexpensive and widely available alkenes has been recognized as a strong and straightforward tool for the rapid fabrication of complex molecules and pharmaceutical targets by introducing two different functional groups on adjacent carbon atoms of common alkene moieties in a single operation. This synthetic strategy avoids the purification and isolation of the intermediates and thus makes synthetic schemes shorter, simpler and cleaner. In this family of reactions, the hydroxysulfonylation of alkenes has emerged as an increasingly promising strategy for the synthesis of β-hydroxysulfones, which are found in many biologically important molecules and widespread applications in organic synthesis. The objective of this review is to illustrate the advancements in the field of hydroxysulfonylation of alkenes with special emphasis on the mechanistic details of the reaction pathways. The direct difunctionalization of alkenes recognized as a straightforward tool for the rapid fabrication of complex molecules and pharmaceutical targets by introducing two different functional groups on adjacent carbon atoms of common alkene moieties.![]()

Abstract
This review mainly focuses on recent developments in the preparation of β-keto sulfones and their extensive synthetic applications. New prospects for the synthesis of β-keto thiosulfones have also been highlighted. Over the last decade, there has been exponential growth in the direct construction of β-keto sulfones using a wide variety of keto and sulfonyl precursors. Of note, the most promising photoredox transformations and electrochemical synthesis methods of β-keto sulfones are also presented. Moreover, β-keto sulfones are versatile building blocks in organic synthesis due to their three essential functional groups: sulfonyl, carbonyl, and active methylene moieties. The convenient preparation of β-keto sulfones allows the synthesis of many valuable carbocyclic and heterocyclic compounds, and the effortless removal of the sulfonyl moiety via transformations is supported. The chemistry of β-keto sulfones (2013 to present) can be divided into several sections based on the sulfonyl surrogates, and ubiquitous synthetic strategies were systematically outlined.

Abstract
This review highlights the preparation of sodium sulfinates (RSO2Na) and their multifaceted synthetic applications. Substantial progress has been made over the last decade in the utilization of sodium sulfinates emerging as sulfonylating, sulfenylating or sulfinylating reagents, depending on reaction conditions. Sodium sulfinates act as versatile building blocks for preparing many valuable organosulfur compounds through S-S, N-S, and C-S bond-forming reactions. Remarkable advancement has been made in synthesizing thiosulfonates, sulfonamides, sulfides, and sulfones, including vinyl sulfones, allyl sulfones, and β-keto sulfones. The significant achievement of developing sulfonyl radical-triggered ring-closing sulfonylation and multicomponent reactions is also thoroughly discussed. Of note, the most promising site-selective C-H sulfonylation, photoredox catalytic transformations and electrochemical synthesis of sodium sulfinates are also demonstrated. Holistically, this review provides a unique and comprehensive overview of sodium sulfinates, which summarizes 355 core references up to March 2020. The chemistry of sodium sulfinate salts is divided into several sections based on the classes of sulfur-containing compounds with some critical mechanistic insights that are also disclosed.
