Abstract
The electronic features of gold-aluminyl complexes have been thoroughly explored. Their similarity with Group 14 dimetallenes and other metal-aluminyl complexes suggests that their reactivity with small molecules beyond carbon dioxide could be accessed. In this work, the reactivity of the [t Bu3 PAuAl(NON)] (NON=4,5-bis(2,6 diisopropylanilido)-2,7-ditert-butyl-9,9-dimethylxanthene) complex towards water, ammonia, sulfur dioxide and nitrous oxide is computationally explored. The reaction mechanisms computed for each substrate strongly suggest that all activation processes are in principle experimentally feasible. Electronic structure analysis highlights that, in all cases, the reactivity is driven by the presence of the poorly polarized electron-sharing gold-aluminyl bond, which induces a radical-like reactivity of the complex towards all the substrates. A flat topology of the potential energy surface (PES) has been found for the reaction with N2 O, where two almost isoenergetic transition states can be located along the same reaction coordinate with different geometries, suggesting that the N2 O binding mode may not be a good indicator of the nature of N2 O activation in a cooperative bimetallic reactivity. In addition, the catalytic potentialities of these complexes have been explored in the framework of nitrous oxide reduction. The study reveals that the [t Bu3 PAuAl(NON)] complex might be an efficient catalyst towards oxidation of phosphines (and boranes) via N2 O reduction. These findings underline recurring trends in the novel chemistry of gold-aluminyl complexes and call for experimental feedbacks.

Abstract
Herein, we report the efficient degradation of N2 O with a well-defined bis(silylene)amido iron complex as catalyst. The deoxygenation of N2 O using the iron silanone complex 4 as a catalyst and pinacolborane (HBpin) as a sacrificial reagent proceeds smoothly at 50 °C to form N2 , H2 , and (pinB)2 O. Mechanistic studies suggest that the iron-silicon cooperativity is the key to this catalytic transformation, which involves N2 O activation, H atom transfer, H2 release and oxygenation of the boron sites. This approach has been further developed to enable catalytic reductions of nitro compounds, producing amino-boranes with good functional-group tolerance and excellent chemoselectivity.

Abstract
One of the challenges of catalysis is the transformation of inert C-H bonds to useful products. Copper-containing monooxygenases play an important role in this regard. Here we show that low-temperature oxygenation of dinuclear copper(I) complexes leads to unusual tetranuclear, mixed-valent μ4 -peroxo [CuI /CuII ]2 complexes. These Cu4 O2 intermediates promote irreversible and thermally activated O-O bond homolysis, generating Cu2 O complexes that catalyze strongly exergonic H-atom abstraction from hydrocarbons, coupled to O-transfer. The Cu2 O species can also be produced with N2 O, demonstrating their capability for small-molecule activation. The binding and cleavage of O2 leading to the primary Cu4 O2 intermediate and the Cu2 O complexes, respectively, is elucidated with a range of solution spectroscopic methods and mass spectrometry. The unique reactivities of these species establish an unprecedented, 100 % atom-economic scenario for the catalytic, copper-mediated monooxygenation of organic substrates, employing both O-atoms of O2 .

Abstract
A nickel complex incorporating an N2 O ligand with a rare η2 -N,N'-coordination mode was isolated and characterized by X-ray crystallography, as well as by IR and solid-state NMR spectroscopy augmented by 15 N-labeling experiments. The isoelectronic nickel CO2 complex reported for comparison features a very similar solid-state structure. Computational studies revealed that η2 -N2 O binds to nickel slightly stronger than η2 -CO2 in this case, and comparably to or slightly stronger than η2 -CO2 to transition metals in general. Comparable transition-state energies for the formation of isomeric η2 -N,N'- and η2 -N,O-complexes, and a negligible activation barrier for the decomposition of the latter likely account for the limited stability of the N2 O complex.

Abstract
The synthesis of two well-defined rhodium(I) complexes of nitrous oxide (N2 O) is reported. These normally elusive adducts are stable in the solid state and persist in solution at ambient temperature, enabling comprehensive structural interrogation by 15 N NMR and IR spectroscopy, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. These methods evidence coordination of N2 O through the terminal nitrogen atom in a linear fashion and are supplemented by a computational energy decomposition analysis, which provides further insights into the nature of the Rh-N2 O interaction.

Abstract
The one-electron reduction of nitrous oxide (N2 O) was achieved using strong Lewis acids E(C6 F5 )3 (E=B or Al) in combination with metallocenes. In the case of B(C6 F5 )3 , electron transfer to N2 O required a powerful reducing agent such as Cp*2 Co (Cp*=pentamethylcyclopentadienyl). In the presence of Al(C6 F5 )3 , on the other hand, the reactions could be performed with weaker reducing agents such as Cp*2 Fe or Cp2 Fe (Cp=cyclopentadienyl). The Lewis acid-mediated electron transfer from the metallocene to N2 O resulted in cleavage of the N-O bond, generating N2 and the oxyl radical anion [OE(C6 F5 )3 ]⋅- . The latter is highly reactive and engages in C-H activation reactions. It was possible to trap the radical by addition of the Gomberg dimer, which acts as a source of the trityl radical.

Abstract
Cyclic PON, a first 16-electron triatomic ring consisting of two first-row elements, has been generated through 193 nm laser photolysis of OPN in cryogenic matrices. When the photolysis (365 nm) was performed in the presence of CO, OPN combines CO and furnishes an exotic acyclic molecule OPNCO. Upon the 193 nm laser irradiation, OPNCO dissociates mainly to OPN and CO with traces of PN and CO2 . The identification of cyclic PON and OPNCO with IR spectroscopy is supported by 15 N-labeling experiments and quantum chemical calculations.

Abstract
The epoxidation of ethylene with N2 O over the metal-organic framework Fe-BTC (BTC=1,3,5-benzentricarboxylate) is investigated by means of density functional calculations. Two reaction paths for the production of ethylene oxide or acetaldehyde are systematically considered in order to assess the efficiency of Fe-BTC for the selective formation of ethylene oxide. The reaction starts with the decomposition of N2 O to form an active surface oxygen atom on the Fe site of Fe-BTC, which subsequently reacts with an ethylene molecule to form an ethyleneoxy intermediate. This intermediate can then be selectively transformed either by 1,2-hydride shift into the undesired product acetaldehyde or into the desired product ethylene oxide by way of ring closure of the intermediate. The production of ethylene oxide requires an activation energy of 5.1 kcal mol-1 , which is only about one-third of the activation energy of acetaldehyde formation (14.3 kcal mol-1 ). The predicted reaction rate constants for the formation of ethylene oxide in the relevant temperature range are approximately 2-4 orders of magnitude higher than those for acetaldehyde. Altogether, the results suggest that Fe-BTC is a good candidate catalyst for the epoxidation of ethylene by molecular N2 O.

Abstract
The oxidation of alcohols with N2O as the hydrogen acceptor was achieved with low catalyst loadings of a rhodium complex that features a cooperative bis(olefin)amido ligand under mild conditions. Two different methods enable the formation of either the corresponding carboxylic acid or the ester. N2 and water are the only by-products. Mechanistic studies supported by DFT calculations suggest that the oxygen atom of N2O is transferred to the metal center by insertion into the Rh-H bond of a rhodium amino hydride species, generating a rhodium hydroxy complex as a key intermediate.

Abstract
UV photolysis of the nitridoosmate(VIII) anion, OsO3 N(-) , in low-temperature frozen matrices results in nitrogen-oxygen bond formation to give the Os(II) nitrosyl complex OsO2 (NO)(-) . Photolysis of the Os(II) nitrosyl product with visible wavelengths results in reversion to the parent Os(VIII) complex. Formally a six-electron reductive elimination and oxidative addition, respectively, this represents the first reported example of such an intramolecular transformation. DFT modelling of this reaction proceeds through a step-wise mechanism taking place through a side-on nitroxyl Os(VI) intermediate, OsO2 (η(2) -NO)(-) .

Abstract
Triazenes are valuable compounds in organic chemistry and numerous applications have been reported. Furthermore, triazenes have been investigated extensively as potential antitumor drugs. Here, we describe a new method for the synthesis of triazenes. The procedure involves a reagent which is rarely used in synthetic organic chemistry: nitrous oxide (N2 O, "laughing gas"). Nitrous oxide mediates the coupling of lithium amides and organomagnesium compounds while serving as a nitrogen donor. Despite the very inert character of nitrous oxide, the reactions can be performed in solution under mild conditions. A key advantage of the new procedure is the ability to access triazenes with alkynyl and alkenyl substituents. These compounds are difficult to prepare by conventional methods because the required starting materials are unstable. Some of the new alkynyltriazenes were found to display high cytotoxicity in in vitro tests on ovarian and breast cancer cell lines.
