Abstract
Opening the ring of cyclic amines by regioselective fission of one of the carbon-nitrogen bonds greatly expands the repertoire of available nitrogen-containing skeletons. Unlike approaches starting from cyclic tertiary amines, methods that can directly open secondary amines are still scarce. The present work discloses an efficient reductive ring opening of either of these cyclic amines using PhSiH3 under B(C6 F5 )3 catalysis. By this, the direct transformation of unstrained cyclic amines into the corresponding acyclic amines is achieved in a simple one-pot operation. A stepwise mechanism proceeding through the intermediacy of silylammonium ions followed by reductive cleavage of a carbon-nitrogen bond was experimentally verified.

Abstract
A silicon-stereogenic aminosilanol was isolated in excellent diastereomeric ratio and the absolute configuration was determined. The silanol is configurative and condensation stable in solution and shows stereoselective transformations with a clean stereospecific pathway in follow-up reactions, which leads to the isolation of a silicon-stereogenic zinc complex and siloxane compounds. Investigations with 18 O-labelled water and mass spectrometry analysis revealed an otherwise hidden exchange of oxygen atoms of silanol and water in solution that proceeds with retention of the configuration at the silicon center. This novel combination of a stereochemical probe and isotopic labeling in a silicon-stereogenic compound opens new analytic possibilities to study stereochemical courses of reactions with the aid of chiral silanols mechanistically.

Abstract
Little-explored hydrosilylation of ketenes promoted by main-group catalysts is reported. The boron Lewis acid tris(pentafluorophenyl)borane accelerates the slow uncatalyzed reaction of ketenes and hydrosilanes, thereby providing a convenient access to the new class of β,β-di- and β-monoaryl-substituted aldehyde-derived silyl enol ethers. Yields are moderate to high, and Z configuration is preferred. The corresponding silyl bis-enol ethers are also available when using dihydrosilanes. The related trityl-cation-initiated hydrosilylation involving self-regeneration of silylium ions is far less effective.

Abstract
Phosphonium ions are widely used in preparative organic synthesis and catalysis. The provision of new types of cations that contain both functional and chiral information is a major synthetic challenge and can open up new horizons in asymmetric cation-directed and Lewis acid catalysis. We discovered an efficient methodology towards new Si-chiral four-membered CPSSi* heterocyclic cations. Three synthetic approaches are presented. The stereochemical sequence of anchimerically assisted cation formation with B(C6 F5 )3 and subsequent hydride addition was fully elucidated and proceeds with excellent preservation of the chiral information at the stereogenic silicon atom. Also the mechanism of dihydrogen release from a protonated hydrosilane was studied in detail by the help of Si-centered chirality as stereochemical probe. Chemoselectivity switch (dihydrogen release vs. protodesilylation) can easily be achieved through slight modifications of the solvent. A matched/mismatched case was identified and the intermolecularity of this reaction supported by spectroscopic, kinetic, deuterium-labeling experiments, and quantum chemical calculations.

Abstract
The strong boron Lewis acid tris(pentafluorophenyl)borane B(C6 F5 )3 is known to catalyze the dehydrogenative coupling of certain amines and hydrosilanes at elevated temperatures. At higher temperature, the dehydrogenation pathway competes with cleavage of the C-N bond and defunctionalization is obtained. This can be turned into a useful methodology for the transition-metal-free reductive deamination of a broad range of amines as well as heterocumulenes such as an isocyanate and an isothiocyanate.

Abstract
We present a mechanistic proposal for the desymmetrisation of dimethoxy silanes with alkyllithiums. The stereochemical pathway is highly defined by the coordination of the metal lithium, which suppresses the reversible interconversion of the various pentavalent intermediates. The predicted kinetic control of the stereoinduction is verified by the experiments using a planar chiral ferrocene backbone.
