Abstract
Functional group translocation is undoubtedly a pivotal synthetic transformation in organic chemistry. Numerous types of reactions involving radical 1,2-aryl or 1,4-aryl migration via electron transfer mechanism have been extensively investigated. Nevertheless, energy-transfer enabled 1,4-arylation remains unknown. Herein we disclose that an unprecedented di-π-ethane rearrangement featuring 1,4-aryl migration facilitated by energy transfer catalysis under visible light conditions. The newly developed mild protocol exhibits tolerance towards diverse functional groups and enables the migration of a multitude of aromatic rings, encompassing both electron-withdrawing and electron-rich functional groups. The open-shell strategy has also found successful application in the modification of several drugs. Large-scale experiments, continuous-flow experiment, and versatile manipulation of products have demonstrated the robustness and potential utility of this synthetic method. Preliminary mechanistic studies have supported the involvement of radical species in this di-π-ethane rearrangement and have also provided evidence for the energy transfer mechanism.

Abstract
We herein report a photochemical Truce-Smiles rearrangement reaction of N-sulfinyl acrylamides with bromodifluoroacetamides resulting in the synthesis of a series of aryl difluoroglutaramides in moderate to good yields. The asymmetric synthesis using chiral sulfinamides produced quaternary carbon-centered glutaramide products with a modest enantioselectivity. This protocol effectively complements previous Truce-Smiles rearrangement methods involving N-sulfonyl acrylamides.

Abstract
Succinyldiamide derivatives are important structural motifs in various natural products, pharmaceuticals, and functional materials. Herein, a novel, mild, and environmentally friendly method was developed for synthesizing functionalized succinyldiamides each containing a quaternary carbon center. This strategy was designed to involve photocatalytic decarboxylation of readily available oxalic monoamide using a non-precious metal photocatalyst, 4CzIPN, followed by a free-radical addition/Smiles rearrangement cascade reaction of N-aryl-N-(arylsulfonyl)acrylamides. This method was found to display several advantageous features including compatibility with many substrates, easily accessible starting materials, and operational simplicity.

Abstract
Radical Smiles rearrangements have emerged as powerful methodologies for constructing carbon-carbon bonds through intramolecular radical addition and fragmentation under milder conditions, with SO2 released as a byproduct. However, SO2-retaining Smiles rearrangements, which can yield valuable alkyl sulfone derivatives, have been scarcely explored. In this study, we present an unprecedented iron-catalyzed SO2-retaining Smiles rearrangement initiated by the decarboxylation of aliphatic carboxylic acids. This approach provides a mild, cost-effective, and versatile pathway to sulfone-containing compounds, demonstrating broad substrate scope and functional group tolerance. It offers a promising strategy for synthesizing γ- and δ-aryl substituted alkyl sulfones, which are traditionally challenging to produce.

Abstract
Benzo[1,3,2]dithiazole-1,1,3-trioxides are bench-stable and easy-to-use reagents. In photoredox catalysis, they generate methyl and perdeuteromethyl radicals which can add to a variety of radical acceptors, including olefins, acrylamides, quinoxalinones, isocyanides, enol silanes, and N-Ts acrylamide. As byproduct, a salt is formed which can be regenerated to the original methylating agent. Flow chemistry provides an option for reaction scale-up further underscoring the synthetic usefulness of these methylation reagents. Mechanistic investigations suggest a single-electron transfer (SET) pathway induced by photoredox catalysis.

Abstract
Photocatalytic N-to-C aryl migration allows for quick construction of highly useful amide derivatives from readily available compounds. By developing the reactions of sodium sulfinates with the N-aryl-propiolamides, we herein demonstrate that the CO2-promoted visible-light-induced method enables a large variety of aryl groups on nitrogen atoms of the N-arylamides to undergo efficient aryl migration from N atom to C atom to synthesize tetra- and tri-substituted alkenyl amides selectively. 1,4-N-to-C aryl migration is a key step in this transformation which is achieved through photocatalytic radical-polar crossover pathway. The protocol exhibits the remarkably tolerant of the electronic properties of the migrating aryl substituent, as both electron-rich and -poor arenes are compatible with the migration process. As a result, this protocol features with a broad substrate scope, as demonstrated by more than 90 examples including complex bioactive compounds. Notably, abundant, nontoxic and low-cost CO2 acted as an essential and irreplaceable additive to enable the tetra- and tri-substituted alkenyl amides to be synthesized with excellent selectivity.

Abstract
The radical Truce-Smiles rearrangement is a straightforward strategy for incorporating aryl groups into organic molecules for which asymmetric processes remains rare. By employing a readily available and non-expensive chiral auxiliary, we developed a highly efficient asymmetric photocatalytic acyl and alkyl radical Truce-Smiles rearrangement of α-substituted acrylamides using tetrabutylammonium decatungstate (TBADT) as a hydrogen atom-transfer photocatalyst, along with aldehydes or C-H containing precursors. The rearranged products exhibited excellent diastereoselectivities (7 : 1 to >98 : 2 d.r.) and chiral auxiliary was easily removed. Mechanistic studies allowed understanding the transformation in which density functional theory (DFT) calculations provided insights into the stereochemistry-determining step.

Abstract
Herein, we present a radical cascade addition cyclization sequence to access quinoline-based benzophosphole oxides from ortho-alkynylated aromatic phosphine oxides using various aryl isonitriles as radical acceptors and inexpensive tert-butyl-hydroperoxide (TBHP) as a terminal oxidant in the presence of a catalytic amount of silver acetate. Alternatively, the same cascade can be realized through a sustainable photochemical approach utilizing 1,2,3,5-tetrakis(carbazol-9-yl)-4,6-dicyanobenzene (4CzIPN) as an organic photocatalyst at room temperature. The introduced modular approach shows broad functional group tolerance and offers straightforward access to complex P,N-containing polyheterocyclic arenes. These novel π-extended benzophosphole oxides exhibit interesting photophysical and electrochemical properties such as absorption in the visible region, emission and reversible reduction at low potentials, which makes them promising for potential materials science applications. The photophysical properties can further be tuned by the addition of external Lewis and Brønsted acids.

Abstract
A domino difunctionalization of sulfonyl(acryl)imides to form β-substituted α-aryl amides is reported. This transformation involves a 1,4-addition followed by a polar Truce-Smiles rearrangement process, entropically driven by release of SO2. A wide range of carbon- and heteroatom-based nucleophiles and sulfonyl imides were employed, allowing rapid access to highly functionalized amides. In contrast to related reactions with a radical pathway, unbiased substrates could be employed. Despite the usual requirement of an electron-poor migrating moiety for the SNAr event, we herein report unique and unprecedented vinylogous migrations of electron-neutral arenes. Additionally, a one-pot process toward β-amido amides starting from acrylic acids has been developed.

Abstract
Intermolecular aminoarylation of alkynes is described, via addition of diarylanilines to alkynes and Smiles-Truce rearrangement. The transformation manipulates the C-N bond of anilines directly, with no requirement for organometallic reagents or transition metal catalysis. The enaminoate products are versatile building blocks for different classes of heterocycles.

Abstract
An efficient asymmetric remote arylation of C(sp3)-H bonds under photoredox conditions is described here. The reaction features the addition radicals to a double bond followed by a site-selective radical translocation (1,n-hydrogen atom transfer) as well as a stereocontrolled aryl migration via sulfinyl-Smiles rearrangement furnishing a wide range of chiral α-arylated amides with up to >99 : 1 er. Mechanistic studies indicate that the sulfinamide group governs the stereochemistry of the product with the aryl migration being the rate determining step preceded by a kinetically favored 1,n-HAT process.

Abstract
Radical difunctionalization of aliphatic alkynes provides direct access to valuable multi-substituted alkenes, but achieving a high level of chemo- and stereo-control remains a formidable challenge. Herein a novel photoredox neutral alkyne di-functionalization is reported through functional group migration followed by a radical-polar crossover and energy transfer-enabled stereoconvergent isomerization of alkenes. In this sequence, a hydroxyalkyl and an aryl group are incorporated concomitantly into an alkyne, leading to diversely functionalized E-allyl alcohols. The scope of alkynes is noteworthy, and the reaction tolerates aliphatic alkynes containing hydrogen donating C─H bonds that are prone to intramolecular hydrogen atom transfer. The protocol features broad functional group compatibility, high product diversity, and exclusive chemo- and stereoselectivity, thus providing a practical strategy for the elusive radical di-functionalization of unactivated alkynes.

Abstract
Efficient control over several possible reaction pathways of free radicals is the chemical basis of their highly selective transformations. Among various competing reaction pathways, sulfonimidyl radicals generated from the electrolysis of 2-alkynylbenzenesulfonamides undergo cascade migratory or ortho-cyclization cyclization selectively. It is found that the incorporation of an extra 2-methyl substituent biases the selective migration of the acyl- over vinyl-linker of the key spirocyclic cation intermediate and thus serves as an enabling handle to achieve the synthetically interesting yet under-investigated cascade migratory cyclization of spirocyclic cations.

Abstract
We report an azido-alkynylation of alkenes allowing a straightforward access to homopropargylic azides by combining hypervalent iodine reagents and alkynyl-trifluoroborate salts. The design of a photocatalytic redox-neutral radical polar crossover process was key to develop this transformation. A variety of homopropargylic azides possessing electron-rich and -poor aryls, heterocycles or ether substituents could be accessed in 34-84% yield. The products are synthetically useful building blocks that could be easily transformed into pyrroles or bioactive amines.

Abstract
A visible-light-induced glycoarylation of activated olefins has been accomplished. Glycosyl radicals are generated via radical transfer strategies between (TMS)3SiOH and glycosyl bromides. Subsequent radical translocation and rapid 1,4-aryl migration form β-sugar amide derivatives, and eight types of sugars are compatible with this reaction. Further, the cascade reaction produced a quaternary carbon center with good functional group adaptability and high regioselectivity in mild conditions.

Abstract
The arylethylamine pharmacophore is conserved across a range of biologically active natural products and pharmaceuticals, particularly in molecules that act on the central nervous system. Herein, we present a photoinduced copper-catalyzed azidoarylation of alkenes at a late stage with arylthianthrenium salts, allowing access to highly functionalized acyclic (hetero)arylethylamine scaffolds that are otherwise difficult to access. A mechanistic study is consistent with a rac-BINAP-CuI-azide (2) as the photoactive catalytic species. We show the utility of the new method by the expedient synthesis of racemic melphalan in four steps through C-H functionalization.

Abstract
When mono-radical ipso-cyclization of aryl sulfonamides tend to undergo Smiles-type rearrangement through aromatization-driven C-S bond cleavage, diradical-mediated cyclization must perform in a distinct reaction pathway. It is interesting meanwhile challenging to tune the rate of C-S bond cleavage to achieve a chemically divergent reaction of (hetero) aryl sulfonamides in a visible-light induced energy transfer (EnT) reaction pathway involving diradical species. Herein a chemically divergent reaction based on the designed indole-tethered (hetero)arylsulfonamides is reported which involves a diradical-mediated ipso-cyclization and a controllable cleavage of an inherent C-S bond. The combined experimental and computational results have revealed that the cleavage of the C-S bond in these substrates can be controlled by tuning the heteroaryl moieties: a) If the (hetero)aryl is thienyl, furyl, phenanthryl, etc., the radical coupling of double dearomative diradicals (DDDR) precedes over C-S bond cleavage to afford cyclobutene fused indolines by double dearomative [2+2]-cycloaddition; b) if the (hetero)aryl is phenyl, naphthyl, pyridyl, indolyl etc., the cleavage of C-S bond in DDDR is favored over radical coupling to afford biaryl products.

Abstract
A conceptually new methodology to give unusual cyclization products from usual migration substrates was disclosed. The highly complex and structurally important and valuable spirocyclic compounds were produced through radical addition, intramolecular cyclization and ring opening instead of usual migration to the di-functionalization products of olefins. Furthermore, a plausible mechanism was proposed based on a series of mechanistic studies including radical trapping, radical clock, verification experiments of intermediates, isotope labeling and KIE experiments.

Abstract
From the viewpoint of synthetic accessibility and functional group compatibility, photoredox-catalyzed sulfur dioxide insertion strategy enables in situ generation of functionalized sulfonyl radicals from easily accessible starting materials under mild conditions, thereby conferring broader application potential. Here we present two complementary photoinduced sulfur dioxide insertion systems to trigger radical asymmetric Truce-Smiles rearrangements for preparing a variety of chiral sulfones that bear a quaternary carbon stereocenter. This protocol features broad substrate scope and excellent stereospecificity. Aside from scalability, the introduction of a quaternary carbon stereocenter at position β to bioactive molecule-derived sulfones further demonstrates the practicality and potential of this methodology.

Abstract

Abstract
Herein we report a method for the synthesis of α-aryl acrylamides leveraging polar S-to-C aryl migrations induced by a Lewis basic organocatalyst. In contrast to previously reported radical aryl migrations of sulfonyl acrylimides, this polar process enables subsequent elimination, ultimately leading to a formal aryl/hydrogen exchange including SO2 extrusion. This reaction is selective for electron-deficient aromatic groups, while tolerating a variety of substituents on nitrogen and in the β-position, and it delivers useful building blocks for further transformations, including cycloaddition and cyclisation reactions. The mechanism was investigated in detail using quantum chemical calculations, which unexpectedly revealed the Lewis base to be involved in several decisive steps.

Abstract
A visible-light organophotoredox-catalyzed sulfurization of alkenes and alkynes with aromatic and heteroaromatic thiols using eco-friendly air (O2) as the sole oxidant has been demonstrated. The established method delivers a novel, benign, and metal-free strategy for the difunctionalization of alkenes and alkynes using organophotoredox catalyst Eosin Y. The selective and controlled synthetic approach shows good substrate generality to afford sulfoxides, β-hydroxysulfoxides, and β-keto sulfides in high yield and excellent regioselectivity.

Abstract
Abstract(Het)aryl migration has emerged as a key synthetic tool and has particularly been exploited for the synthesis of α-aryl amides. This method overcomes the existing α-arylation methods, which are not always compatible with the introduction of (het)aryl groups possessing bulky or electrophilic substituents. This review focuses on SO2-extrusive (het)aryl migration in the frame of α-aryl amide synthesis. Anion- and radical-mediated transformations are reported, including the synthesis of polycyclic compounds through cascade reactions.1 Introduction2 Anionic Aryl Migration3 Radical Aryl Migration4 Conclusion

Abstract
Benzoxathiazine dioxide, as a bioisostere of the clinically widely used diazoxide, exhibits interesting biological activity. However, limited success has been achieved in terms of its concise and direct synthesis. We report herein a facile electrochemical migratory cyclization of N-acylsulfonamides to access a diverse array of benzoxathiazine dioxides. The inclusion of electrochemistry is crucial for realizing such a novel transformation, which is substantiated both by the experiments and density-functional-theory calculations.

Abstract
Herein, we describe the copper-catalyzed arylalkylation of activated alkenes via hydrogen-atom transfer and aryl migration strategy. The reaction was carried out through a radical-mediated continuous migration pathway using N-fluorosulfonamides as the alkyl source. The primary, secondary, and tertiary alkyl radicals formed by intramolecular hydrogen-atom transfer proceeded smoothly. This methodology is an efficient approach for the synthesis of various amide derivatives possessing a quaternary carbon center with good yields and high regioselectivity.

Abstract
Alkene amino(hetero)arylation presents a highly efficient and straightforward strategy for direct installation of amino groups and heteroaryl rings across a double bond simultaneously. An extensive array of practical transformations has been developed via alkene difunctionalization approach to access a broad range of medicinally valuable (hetero)arylethylamine motifs. This review presents recent progress in 1,2-amino(hetero)arylation of alkenes organized in three different modes. First, intramolecular transformations employing C, N-tethered alkenes will be introduced. Next, two-component reactions will be discussed with different combination of precursors, N-tethered alkenes and external aryl precursor, C-tethered alkenes and external amine precursor, or C, N-tethered reagents, and alkenes. Last, three-component intermolecular amino(hetero)arylation reactions will be covered.

Abstract
The arylation of carboxylic acid derivatives via Smiles rearrangement has gained great interest in recent years. Both radical and ionic approaches, as well as radical-polar crossover concepts, have been developed. In contrast, a reversed polar-radical crossover approach remains underexplored. Here we report a simple, efficient and scalable method for the preparation of sterically hindered and valuable α-quaternary amides via a polar-radical crossover-enolate oxidation-aryl migration pathway. A variety of easily accessible N-alkyl and N-arylsulfonamides are reacted with disubstituted ketenes to give the corresponding amide enolates, which undergo upon single electron transfer oxidation, a 1,4-aryl migration, desulfonylation, hydrogen atom transfer cascade to provide α-quaternary amides in good to excellent yields. Various mono- and di-substituted heteroatom-containing and polycyclic arenes engage in the aryl migration reaction. Functional group tolerance is excellent and substrates as well as reagents are readily available rendering the method broadly applicable. The α-arylation of amides via aryl migration has attracted considerable interest in recent years. Here, the authors report a method for the preparation of bulky α-quaternary amides via a polar-radical crossover enolate oxidation-aryl migration cascade.

Abstract
Free radical carbochloromethylations of ortho-cyanoarylacrylamides and N-(arylsulfonyl)acrylamides have been developed by employing simple alkyl chlorides as the chloromethyl source. The transformations are characterized by wide functional group compatibility and utilizing readily available reagents, thus providing efficient methods for constructing polychloromethyl-substituted quinoline-2,4-diones and α-aryl-β-polychloromethylated amides.

Abstract
The generation of azide radical (N3˙) occurs from its precursors primarily via a single electron transfer (SET) process or homolytic cleavage by chemical methods or advanced photoredox/electrochemical methods. This in situ generated transient open-shell species has unique characteristic features that set its reactivity. In the past, the azide radical was widely used for various studies in radiation chemistry as a 1e- oxidant of biologically important molecules, but now it is being exploited for synthetic applications based on its addition and intermolecular hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) abilities. Due to the significant role of nitrogen-containing molecules in synthesis, drug discovery, biological, and material sciences, the direct addition onto unsaturated bonds for the simultaneous construction of C-N bond with other (C-X) bonds are indeed worth highlighting. Moreover, the ability to generate O- or C-centered radicals by N3˙ via electron transfer (ET) and intermolecular HAT processes is also well documented. The purpose of controlling the reactivity of this short-lived intermediate in organic transformations drives us to survey: (i) the history of azide radical and its structural properties (thermodynamic, spectroscopic, etc.), (ii) chemical reactivities and kinetics, (iii) methods to produce N3˙ from various precursors, (iv) several significant azide radical-mediated transformations in the field of functionalization with unsaturated bonds, C-H functionalization via HAT, tandem, and multicomponent reaction with a critical analysis of underlying mechanistic approaches and outcomes, (v) concept of taming the reactivity of azide radicals for potential opportunities, in this review.

Abstract
We report an approach for the synthesis of benzothiophene motifs under electrochemical conditions by the reaction of sulfonhydrazides with internal alkynes. Upon the formation of a quaternary spirocyclization intermediate by the selective ipso-addition instead of an ortho-attack, the S-migration process was rationalized to lead to the products. Computational studies revealed the selectivity and the compatibility of drug molecules showcased the potential application of the protocols.
