Abstract
Developing novelplatinum (Pt)-based hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) catalysts with high activity and stability is significant for the ever-broader applications of hydrogen energy. However, achieving precise modulation of the ultrafine Pt nanoparticles coordination environment in conventional catalysts is challenging. In this work, we developed a unique "ring-shaped cavity induced" strategy to anchor the Ptx through the ring-shaped cavity of polyoxometalates (POMs) Na33H7P8W48O184 (denoted as P8W48). The NayPtx[P8W48O184] (PtxP8W48) was in-situ converted into abundant Pt/WO3-x heterostructure with Pt (∼2 nm) and highly depressed Pt-O-W heterointerfaces. Pt/WO3-x nanoparticles supported on highly conductive rGO exhibit superior HER activity. The overpotentials of the catalyst are only 2.8 mV and 4.7 mV at 10 mA·cm-2 in acidic water and seawater, far superior to commercial 20 % Pt/C catalyst. Additionally, the catalyst can be stabilized at a current density of 30 mA·cm-2 for 180 h. This study provides a feasible strategy for rational design of Pt-based catalysts for renewable energy applications.

Abstract
Precise structural design of large hetero-multinuclear metal-oxo clusters is crucial for controlling their large spin ground states and multielectron redox properties for application as a single-molecule magnet (SMM), molecular magnetic refrigeration, and efficient redox catalyst. However, it is difficult to synthesize large hetero-multinuclear metal oxo clusters as designed because the final structures are unpredictable when employing conventional one-step condensation reaction of metal cations and ligands. Herein, we report a "cationic metal glue strategy" for increasing the size and nuclearity of hetero-multinuclear metal-oxo clusters by using lacunary-type anionic molecular metal oxides (polyoxometalates, POMs) as rigid multidentate ligands. The employed method enabled the synthesis of {(FeMn4 )Mn2 Ln2 (FeMn4 )} oxo clusters (Ln=Gd, Tb, Dy, and Lu), which are the largest among previously reported paramagnetic hetero-multinuclear metal-oxo clusters in POMs and showed unique SMM properties. These clusters were synthesized by conjugating {FeMn4 } oxo clusters with Mn and Ln cations as glues in a predictable way, indicating that the "cationic metal glue strategy" would be a powerful tool to construct desired large hetero-multinuclear metal clusters precisely and effectively.

Abstract
A tower-like SbIII-SeIV-templating polyoxotungstate [H2N(CH3)2]12Na7H3[Ce0.5/Na0.5(H2O)5]2[SbSe2W21O75]2·50H2O (1) was synthesized, whose skeleton is assembled from two prolonged lacunary Dawson [SbSe2W21O75]13- units and two [Ce0.5/Na0.5(H2O)5]2+ linkers. The uncommon [SbSe2W21O75]13- unit can be viewed as a combination of one [SeW6O21]2- group grafted onto a trivacant Dawson [SbSeW15O54]11- subunit. The conductive composite 1-Au@rGO containing 1, gold nanoparticles, and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was conveniently prepared, using which the 1-Au@rGO-based electrochemical genosensor was constructed for detecting human multidrug resistance gene segment. This work enriches structural types of dual-heteroatom-inserted polyoxometalates and promotes the application of polyoxometalates in genosensors.

Abstract
We report the first single-crystal X-ray structural evidence of the potassium salt of the hexalacunary [α-H2 P2 W12 O48 ]12- (abbreviated as {P2 W12 }) anion after its discovery by Contant and Ciabrini in 1977. In addition, we observed oligomerization of {P2 W12 } into a {WO(OH2 )}4+ -bridged Pacman-shaped [{WO(OH2 )}(α-HP2 W12 O48 )2 ]22- ({P4 W25 }) dimer and a cyclic [{WO(OH2 )}3 (P2 W12 O48 )3 ]30- ({P6 W39 }) trimer. The three phosphotungstate anions were synthesized through recrystallization of (NH4 )12 [α-H2 P2 W12 O48 ] from slightly alkaline (HOCH2 )3 CNH2 /KCl, CH3 NH3 Cl/KCl, and CH3 NH3 Cl/NH4 Cl solutions. The structure of {P2 W12 } is derived from [α-P2 W18 O62 ]6- that has six tungsten atoms one from each polar group and four from the belt-removed, and the center of the lacunary site is capped by a potassium cation. Structures of {P4 W25 } and {P6 W39 } are constructed by connecting two and three {P2 W12 } units with {WO(OH2 )}4+ , respectively. The isolation of a pure {P6 W39 } phosphotungstate framework without coordination with transition metal cations is unprecedented. Powder X-ray diffraction confirmed the bulk purity of these compounds, indicating that selective crystallization was achieved through the selection of countercations and pH.

Abstract
In order to meet people's demand for intelligent management of daily life and health, manufacturing and developing humidity monitoring equipment with convenience, high sensitivity, easy miniaturization, and low cost is particularly important in the era of rapid development of artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things. Polyaniline (PANI) is an attractive humidity sensing material due to its designable functional properties. However, PANI modified polyoxometalates (POMs) for humidity sensing are still rare. As a proof of concept, a novel moisture sensing composite material was obtained based on PANI and a novel 1D rare-earth-substituted phospho(III)tungstate [H2N(CH3)2]9Na3H6[Ce2(H2O)3W5O13(C2O4)][HPIIIW9O33]2[(HPIII)2W15O54]·42H2O (1). Notably, the anion structure of 1 contains trivacant Keggin-type [B-α-HPIIIW9O33]8- and Dawson-like [(HPIII)2W15O54]10- subunits linked by a heterometallic [Ce2(H2O)3W5O32(C2O4)]30- cluster. Furthermore, the 1/PANI composite shows a typical semiconductive characteristic with a "band-like" conductive mechanism. The fabricated 1/PANI-based humidity sensing device exhibits a broad sensing range (11∼97% relative humidity), fast response/recovery time (3.45 s/3.24 s), good repeatability, and long-term stability (over 3 months). Additionally, the possible sensing mechanism is proposed. This work offers an enormous possibility for the design of high-performance humidity sensing materials through POM material chemistry.

Abstract
Two particular fumaric acid bridging lanthanide-encapsulated selenotungstates [H2N(CH3)2]16Na8[Ln3(H2O)7]2 [W4O8(C4H2O4) (C4H3O4)]2[SeW6O25]2[B-α-SeW9O33]4·46H2O [Ln = Ce3+ (1), La3+ (2)] were acquired by the deliberately designed step-by-step synthetic strategy, which are composed of four trilacunary Keggin [B-α-SeW9O33]8- and two original [SeW6O25]10- building units together with one fumaric acid bridging heterometallic [Ln3(H2O)7]2[W4O8(C4H2O4) (C4H3O4)]228+ entity. Particularly, this heterometallic cluster contains four fumaric acid ligands, which play two different roles: one works as the pendant decorating the cluster and the other acts as the linker connecting the whole structure. In addition, the 1@DDA hybrid material was produced through the cation exchange of 1 and dimethyl distearylammonium chloride (DDA·Cl) and its beehive-shaped film of 1@DDA was prepared by the breath figure method, which can be further used to establish an electrochemical biosensor for detecting a kind of mycotoxin-ochratoxin A (OX-A). The 1@DDA beehive-shaped film-based electrochemical biosensor exhibits good reproducibility and specific sensing toward OX-A with a low detection limit of 29.26 pM. These results highlight the huge feasibility of long-chain flexible ligands in building lanthanide-encapsulated selenotungstates with structural complexity and further demonstrate great electrochemical application potentiality of polyoxometalate-involved materials in bioanalysis, tumor diagnosis, and iatrology.

Abstract
The properties of metal nanoclusters depend on both their structures and electronic states. However, in contrast to the significant advances achieved in the synthesis of structurally well-defined metal nanoclusters, systematic control of their electronic states is still challenging. In particular, stimuli-responsive and reversible control of the electronic states of metal nanoclusters is attractive from the viewpoint of their practical applications. Recently, we developed a synthesis method for atomically precise Ag nanoclusters using polyoxometalates (POMs) as inorganic ligands. Herein, we exploited the acid/base nature of POMs to reversibly change the electronic states of an atomically precise {Ag27} nanocluster via protonation/deprotonation of the surrounding POM ligands. We succeeded in systematically controlling the electronic states of the {Ag27} nanocluster by adding an acid or a base (0-6 equivalents), which was accompanied by drastic changes in the ultraviolet-visible absorption spectra of the nanocluster solutions. These results demonstrate the great potential of Ag nanoclusters for unprecedented applications in various fields such as sensing, biolabeling, electronics, and catalysis.

Abstract
Cup-shaped molecules are of great interest due to their appealing architectures and properties. Compared with widely studied calixarenes, polyoxometalate-based cup-shaped molecules currently remain a virgin land waiting for exploration. In this work, we report the first discovery of two giant cup-shaped inorganic-organic hybrid polyoxoniobates (PONbs) of {Cu12 Nb120 } and {Cd16 Nb128 }. The former integrates three tricyclic Nb24 clusters and a hexacyclic Nb48 cluster into a cup-shaped molecule via a Cu12 metallacalixarene, while the latter unifies two tricyclic Nb24 clusters and a brand-new pentacyclic Nb40 cluster into another cup-shaped molecule via a hybrid Cd16 unit. With 132 and 144 metal centers, {Cu12 Nb120 } and {Cd16 Nb128 } show the largest two inorganic-organic hybrid PONbs known to date.

Abstract
Nanosized manganese oxides have recently received considerable attention for their synthesis, structures, and potential applications. Although various synthetic methods have been developed, precise synthesis of novel nanostructured manganese oxides are still challenging. In this study, using a structurally defined nanosized cavity inside a ring-shaped polyoxometalate, we succeeded in synthesizing two types of discrete 18 and 20 nuclear nanostructured manganese oxides, Mn18 and Mn20, respectively. In particular, Mn18 showed much higher catalytic activity than other manganese oxides for the oxygenation of alkylarenes including electron-deficient ones, and the reaction proceeded through a unique reaction mechanism due to its unusual manganese oxide structure.

Abstract
An efficient stepwise synthesis method for discovering new heteromultinuclear metal clusters using a robotic workflow is developed where numerous reaction conditions for constructing heteromultinuclear metal oxo clusters in polyoxometalates (POMs) were explored using a custom-built automated platform. As a result, new nonanuclear tetrametallic oxo clusters {FeMn4}Lu2A2 in TBA5[(A-α-SiW9O34)2FeMn4O2{Lu(acac)2}2A2] (IIA; A = Ag, Na, K; TBA = tetra-n-butylammonium; acac = acetylacetonate) were discovered by the installation of diamagnetic metal cations A+ into a paramagnetic {FeMn4}Lu2 unit in TBA7[(A-α-SiW9O34)2FeMn4O2{Lu(acac)2}2] (I). POMs IIA exhibited single-molecule magnet properties with the higher energy barriers for magnetization reversal (IIAg, 40.0 K; IINa, 40.3 K; IIK, 26.7 K) compared with that of the parent I (19.7 K). Importantly, these clusters with unique properties were constructed as designed by a step of the predictable sequential multistep reactions with the time-efficient platform.

Abstract
Two types of organic-inorganic hybrid structure-related lanthanide (Ln)-included selenotungstates (Ln-SeTs) [H2N(CH3)2]11Na7[Ce4(H2PTCA)2(H2O)12(HICA)]2[SeW4O17]2[W2O5]4[SeW9O33]4·64H2O (1, H3PTCA = 1,2,3-propanetricarboxylic acid, H2ICA = itaconic acid) and [H2N(CH3)2]6Na4[Ln4SeW8(H2O)14(H2PTCA)2O28] [SeW9O33]2·31H2O [Ln = Pr3+ (2), Nd3+ (3)] were obtained by Ln nature control. The primary frameworks of 1-3 are composed of trivacant Keggin-type [B-α-SeW9O33]8- and [SeW4Om]n- [Ln = Ce3+ (1), m = 17, n = 6; Ln = Pr3+ (2), Nd3+ (3), m = 18, n = 8] fragments bridged by organic ligands and Ln clusters. Intriguingly, Ln nature results in the degradation of hexameric 1 to trimeric 2-3. Besides, 1@DMDSA and 3@DMDSA composites (DMDSA·Cl = dimethyl distearylammonium chloride) were prepared through the cation exchange method, which were then reorganized to form two-dimensional (2D) honeycomb thin films by the breath figure method. Using these honeycomb thin films as electrode materials, the aptasensors were further established by utilizing methylene blue as an indicator and cDNA and Au nanoparticles as signal amplifiers to enhance the response signal so as to realize the purpose of ochratoxin A (OTA) detection. This work provides a new platform for detecting OTA and explores the application potential of POM-based composites in biological and clinical analyses.

Abstract
Atomically precise silver (Ag) nanoclusters are promising materials as catalysts, photocatalysts, and sensors because of their unique structures and mixed-valence states (Ag+ /Ag0 ). However, their low stability hinders the in-depth study of their intrinsic reactivity and catalytic property accompanying their redox processes. Herein, we demonstrate that a molecular hybrid of an atomically precise {Ag27 }17+ nanocluster and polyoxometalates (POMs) can efficiently cleave H2 into protons and electrons. The Ag nanocluster accommodates electrons through the redox reaction from {Ag27 }17+ to {Ag27 }13+ , and the POM ligands play the following important roles: (i) a significant stabilization of the typically unstable Ag nanocluster to preserve its structure during the redox reaction with H2 , (ii) formation of a unique interface between the Ag nanocluster and metal oxides for efficient H2 cleavage, and (iii) storage of the generated protons on the negatively charged basic surface.

Abstract
Although metal-containing polyoxomolybdates (molybdenum oxide clusters) exhibit outstanding catalytic properties, their precise synthetic method has not yet been developed. This is mainly because the very low stability of the multivacant lacunary polyoxomolybdates limited their use as synthetic precursors. Here, we present a "protecting group strategy" in polyoxometalate synthesis and successfully develop an efficient method for synthesising multinuclear metal-containing polyoxomolybdates using pyridine as a protecting group for unstable trivacant lacunary Keggin-type polyoxomolybdate [PMo9O34]9-. Specifically, tetranuclear cubane- and planar-type manganese clusters were selectively synthesised in the polyoxomolybdates using the present method. The importance of this work is that, in addition to being the first practical way of utilizing multivacant lacunary polyoxomolybdates as precursors, this new "protecting group strategy" will make it possible to produce polyoxometalates with unexplored structures and properties.

Abstract
Vanadium-containing phosphomolybdates have outstanding catalytic and electrochemical properties. However, their traditional one-pot synthesis in aqueous media generates a mixture of randomly distributed isomers and undesirable impurities, which has hampered the in-depth study of the catalysis and reaction mechanism of these compounds. Here, the selective synthesis of a tetranuclear vanadium-containing phosphomolybdate, [PV3Mo9O40(VO)]3-, was achieved for the first time by using a pyridine-protected [A-α-PMo9O31(py)3]3- (py = pyridine) as the template.

Abstract
The 48-FeIII -containing 96-tungsto-16-phosphate, [FeIII 48 (OH)76 (H2 O)16 (HP2 W12 O48 )8 ]36- (Fe48 ), has been synthesized and structurally characterized. This polyanion comprises eight equivalent {FeIII 6 P2 W12 } units that are linked in an end-on fashion forming a macrocyclic assembly that contains more iron centers than any other polyoxometalate (POM) known to date. The novel Fe48 was synthesized by a simple one-pot reaction of an {Fe22 } coordination complex with the hexalacunary {P2 W12 } POM precursor in water. The title polyanion was characterized by single-crystal XRD, FTIR, TGA, magnetic and electrochemical studies.

Abstract
Silver nanoclusters have attracted scientific interest due to their properties and applications. However, practical synthetic methods to access these materials are still limited mainly due to the low stability. Here, we report a controlled assembly strategy for fabricating atomically precise silver nanoclusters using polyoxometalates (POMs) as structure-directing as well as functionalizing units. A trefoil-propeller-shaped {Ag27}17+ nanocluster was synthesized by assembling reactive nanoclusters supported by open-Dawson-type POMs [Si2W18O66]16-. The {Ag27}17+ nanocluster possessed 10 delocalized valence electrons and showed unprecedented ultrastability in solutions. The cluster showed unique {Ag27}-to-POM charge transfer bands in the visible light region.

Abstract
Controlled isomerization of individual {α-P2W12O48} polyoxotungstate building blocks under the constricted conditions of the macrocyclic [P8W48O184]40- archetype ({P8W48}) is linked to site-specific CuII coordination. The derivatives [αγαγ-P8W48O184{Cu(H2O)}2]36- (1), [γγγγ-P8W48O184{Cu(H2O)0.5}4]32- (2), and [αγγγ-P8W48O184{Cu(H2O)}3]34- (3) feature the {αγαγ-P8W48} and the hitherto unknown {γγγγ-P8W48} and {αγγγ-P8W48} isomers based on {α-P2W12} and/or CuII-stabilized {γ-P2W12} units and form from the reactions of the classical {P8W48} (={αααα-P8W48}) and CuCl2 in sodium acetate medium (pH 5.2). All products were thoroughly characterized in both the solid state and aqueous solutions, including electrocatalysis assessments.

Abstract
In aqueous media, the introduction of additional metal species into polyoxometalates (POMs) with multiple vacant sites, such as a hexavacant Dawson-type phosphotungstate, which is of interest for the synthesis of novel metal oxide clusters, is generally difficult because they easily undergo self-condensation and/or structural decomposition. In this study, we succeeded in developing a novel synthetic method to obtain metal-substituted γ-Dawson-type phosphotungstate monomers by introducing metal species into an organic solvent-soluble lacunary phosphotungstate, TBA4H10[α-P2W12O48] (I) (TBA = tetra-n-butylammonium), in organic media. The reaction of I, which possessed two types of vacant sites, i.e. middle and edge sites, with divalent metal species such as Mn2+, Co2+, Ni2+, Cu2+, or Zn2+ in acetonitrile afforded a series of isostructural POMs M2 (TBA5[γ-P2W12O44M2(OAc)(CH3CONH)2]·nH2O·mCH3CN; M = Mn2+, Co2+, Ni2+, Cu2+, or Zn2+; OAc = acetate) with an edge-sharing bis(square-pyramidal) {O2M(μ3-O)2(μ-OAc)MO2} core. The bis(square-pyramidal) core was selectively placed at the middle site of the hexavacant lacunary phosphotungstate, and the two metals in the core were bridged by two phosphate units and one acetate species. Meanwhile, the edge sites were capped by acetimidate ligands, which protect the reactive lacunary POM from self-condensation. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report describing the synthesis and characterization of metal-substituted hexavacant γ-Dawson-type POM monomers.

Abstract
Three types of heterometallic bismuth-tungsten oxide nanoclusters were successfully synthesized by the reactions of lacunary silicotungstates (trivacant [A-α-SiW9O34]10- and divacant [γ-SiW10O36]8-) and Bi3+ in organic solvents. Lone pairs on Bi3+ acted as structure-directing groups in these nanoclusters.
