Abstract
Luminescent materials with narrowband emission have extraordinary significance for developing ultrahigh-definition display. B-N-containing multiple resonance thermally activated delayed fluorescence (MR-TADF) materials are strong contenders. However, their device performances pervasively encounter detrimental aggregation-caused quenching effect that is highly vulnerable to doping concentration, complicating device fabrication. Therefore, constructing highly efficient and concentration-independent MR-TADF emitters is of pragmatic importance for improving device controllability and reproducibility, simplifying manufacturing procedures, and conserving production costs. Here, by systematic arrangement of donor triphenylamine and fluorophore BNCz on distinct bridges, a spatial confinement strategy has been developed with a donor-bridge-fluorophore architecture. Structurally fine modulation and progressive evolution to construct molecular entities with congested steric hindrance effect that can suppress intermolecular interactions without substantially affecting the luminescence tone of fluorophore BNCz, resulting in highly efficient and concentration-independent narrowband emitters; through isomer engineering, two isomers BN-PCz-TPA and TPA-PCz-BN with different crystal stacking patterns are synthesized by altering the connection mode between triphenylamine and BNCz. As a result, BN-PCz-TPA-based device showcases maximum external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 36.3% with narrow full-width at half-maximum of 27 nm at 10 wt% doping concentration. Even at 20 wt% doping concentration, the maximum EQE remains at 32.5% and the emission spectrum is almost unchanged.

Abstract
Efficient, narrowband multi-resonance thermally activated delayed fluorescence (MR-TADF) emitters have recently sparked significant interest in high-resolution organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays. However, almost all the progress in MR-TADF materials has been accomplished using a six-membered ring as the π-core to date. Herein, we present the first example of a five-membered ring π-core-based MR-TADF emitter named Th-BN developed by introducing thiophene instead of hexagonal benzene as the π-core. The introduction of thiophene significantly enhances intramolecular charge transfer intensity and the spin-orbit coupling matrix elements but does not change the intrinsic MR properties. As a result, Th-BN exhibits a narrowband green emission at 512 nm, with a high luminous efficiency of 97%, a narrow full-width at half maximum of 41 nm/0.20 eV, and a rapid reverse intersystem crossing rate of 18.7 × 104 s-1, which is 10 times higher than that of its benzenoid counterpart DtBuCzB. The corresponding green OLEDs based on Th-BN achieve excellent electroluminescence performance with an external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 34.6% and a reduced efficiency roll-off with an EQE of 26.8% at a high luminance of 1000 cd m-2.

Abstract
Multi-resonance thermally activated delayed fluorescence (MR-TADF) materials hold great promise for advanced high-resolution organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays. However, persistent challenges, such as severe aggregation-caused quenching (ACQ) and slow spin-flip, hinder their optimal performance. We propose a synergetic steric-hindrance and excited-state modulation strategy for MR-TADF emitters, which is demonstrated by two blue MR-TADF emitters, IDAD-BNCz and TIDAD-BNCz, bearing sterically demanding 8,8-diphenyl-8H-indolo[3,2,1-de]acridine (IDAD) and 3,6-di-tert-butyl-8,8-diphenyl-8H-indolo[3,2,1-de]acridine (TIDAD), respectively. These rigid and bulky IDAD/TIDAD moieties, with appropriate electron-donating capabilities, not only effectively mitigate ACQ, ensuring efficient luminescence across a broad range of dopant concentrations, but also induce high-lying charge-transfer excited states that facilitate triplet-to-singlet spin-flip without causing undesired emission redshift or spectral broadening. Consequently, implementation of a high doping level of IDAD-BNCz resulted in highly efficient narrowband electroluminescence, featuring a remarkable full-width at half-maximum of 34 nm and record-setting external quantum efficiencies of 34.3 % and 31.8 % at maximum and 100 cd m-2, respectively. The combined steric and electronic effects arising from the steric-hindered donor introduction offer a compelling molecular design strategy to overcome critical challenges in MR-TADF emitters.

Abstract
An ultrapure deep-blue multi-resonance-induced thermally activated delayed fluorescence material (DOB2-DABNA-A) is designed and synthesized. Benefiting from a fully resonating extended helical π-conjugated system, this compound has a small ΔEST value of 3.6 meV and sufficient spin-orbit coupling to exhibit a high-rate constant for reverse intersystem crossing (kRISC = 1.1 × 106 s-1). Furthermore, an organic light-emitting diode employing DOB2-DABNA-A as an emitter is fabricated; it exhibits ultrapure deep-blue emission at 452 nm with a small full width at half maximum of 24 nm, corresponding to Commission Internationale de l'Éclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.145, 0.049). The high kRISC value reduces the efficiency roll-off, resulting in a high external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 21.6% at 1000 cd m-2.

Abstract
Narrowband emissive multiple resonance (MR) emitters promise high efficiency and stability in deep-blue organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). However, the construction of ideal ultra-narrow-band deep-blue MR emitters still faces formidable challenges, especially in balancing bathochromic-shift emission, spectral narrowing, and aggregation suppression. Here, DICz is chosen, which possesses the smallest full-width-at-half-maximum (FWHM) in MR structures, as the core and solved the above issue by tuning its peripheral substitution sites. The 1-substituted molecule Cz-DICz is able to show a bright deep-blue emission with a peak at 457 nm, an extremely small FWHM of 14 nm, and a CIE coordinate of (0.14, 0.08) in solution. The corresponding OLEDs exhibit high maximum external quantum efficiencies of 22.1%-25.6% and identical small FWHMs of 18 nm over the practical mass-production concentration range (1-4 wt.%). To the best of the knowledge, 14 and 18 nm are currently the smallest FWHM values for deep-blue MR emitters with similar emission maxima under photoluminescence and electroluminescence conditions, respectively. These discoveries will help drive the development of high-performance narrowband deep-blue emitters and bring about a revolution in OLED industry.

Abstract
Despite theoretical difficulties, we herein demonstrate an effective strategy for the inaugural synthesis of an orange-red multiple resonance (MR) emitter centered on a pyridine ring via stereo effects. Compared to conventional benzene-centered materials, the pyridine moiety in the novel MR material acts as a co-acceptor. This results in a significant spectral redshift and a narrower spectrum, as well as an improved photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) due to the formation of intramolecular hydrogen bonds. As envisioned, the proof-of-concept emitter Py-Cz-BN exhibits bright orange-red emission peaking at 586 nm with a small full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 0.14 eV (40 nm), exceeding both the wavelength and FWHM achieved with benzene-centered BBCz-Y. Benefiting from high PLQYs (>92%) and suppressed chromophore interactions, the optimized organic light-emitting diodes achieved high maximum external quantum efficiencies of 25.3-29.6%, identical small FWHMs of 0.18 eV (54 nm), and long lifetimes over a wide range of dopant concentrations (1-15 wt%). The performance described above demonstrates the effectiveness of this molecular design and synthesis strategy in constructing high performance long-wavelength MR emitters.

Abstract
Recently, boron (B)/nitrogen (N)-embedded polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), characterized by multiple resonances (MR), have attracted significant attention owing to their remarkable features of efficient narrowband emissions with small full width at half maxima (FWHMs). However, developing ultra-narrowband pure-green emitters that comply with the Broadcast Service Television 2020 (BT2020) standard remains challenging. Precise regulation of the MR distribution regions allows simultaneously achieving the emission maximum, FWHM value, and spectral shape that satisfy the BT2020 standard. The proof-of-concept molecule TPABO-DICz exhibited ultrapure green emission with a dominant peak at 515 nm, an extremely small FWHM of 17 nm, and Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.17, 0.76). The corresponding bottom-emitting organic light-emitting diode (OLED) exhibited a remarkably high CIEy value (0.74) and maximum external quantum efficiency (25.8 %). Notably, the top-emitting OLED achieved nearly BT2020 green color (CIE: 0.14, 0.79) and exhibited a state-of-the-art maximum current efficiency of 226.4 cd A-1 , thus fully confirming the effectiveness of the above strategy.

Abstract
Boron-based multiple-resonance (MR) emitters exhibit the advantages of narrowband emission, high absolute photoluminescence quantum yield, thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF), and sufficient stability during the operation of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Thus, such MR emitters have been widely applied as blue emitters in triplet-triplet-annihilation-driven fluorescent devices used in smartphones and televisions. Moreover, they hold great promise as TADF or terminal emitters in TADF-assisted fluorescence or phosphor-sensitised fluorescent OLEDs. Herein we comprehensively review organoboron-based MR emitters based on their synthetic strategies, clarify structure-photophysical property correlations, and provide design guidelines and future development prospects.

Multi-resonance thermally activated delayed fluorescence (MR-TADF) emitters have become an active research topic at the forefront of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) owing to their excellent photophysical properties such as high efficiency and narrow emission characteristics. However, MR-TADF materials always exhibit slow reverse intersystem crossing rates (kRISC) due to the large energy gap and small spin-orbit coupling values between singlet and triplet excited states. In order to optimize the RISC process, strategies such as heavy-atom-integration, metal perturbation, π-conjugation extension and peripheral decoration of donor/acceptor units have been proposed to construct efficient MR-TADF materials for high-performance OLEDs. This article provides an overview of the recent progress in MR-TADF emitters with an efficient RISC process, focusing on the structure-activity relationship between the molecular structure, optoelectronic feature, and OLED performance. Finally, the potential challenges and future prospects of MR-TADF materials are discussed to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the opportunities for efficient narrowband OLEDs.

Abstract
Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) utilizing multi-resonance (MR) emitters show great potential in ultrahigh-definition display benefitting from superior merits of MR emitters such as high color purity and photoluminescence quantum yields. However, the scarcity of narrowband pure-green MR emitters with novel backbones and facile synthesis has limited their further development. Herein, two novel pure-green MR emitters (IDIDBN and tBuIDIDBN) are demonstrated via replacing the carbazole subunits in the bluish-green BCzBN skeleton with new polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) units, 5-phenyl-5,10-dihydroindolo[3,2-b]indole (IDID) and 5-(4-(tert-butyl)phenyl)-5,10-dihydroindolo[3,2-b]indole (tBuIDID), to simultaneously enlarge the π-conjugation and enhance the electron-donating strength. Consequently, a successful red shift from aquamarine to pure-green is realized for IDIDBN and tBuIDIDBN with photoluminescence maxima peaking at 529 and 532 nm, along with Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.25, 0.71) and (0.28, 0.70). Furthermore, both emitters revealed narrowband emission with small full width at half-maximum (FWHM) below 28 nm. Notably, the narrowband pure-green emission was effectively preserved in corresponding devices, which afford elevated maximum external quantum efficiencies of 16.3% and 18.3% for IDIDBN and tBuIDIDBN.

Abstract
Extending the π-skeletons of multi-resonance (MR) organoboron emitters can feasibly modulate their optoelectronic properties. Here, we first adopt the indolo[3,2-b]indole (32bID) segment as a multi-nitrogen bridge and develop a high-efficiency π-extended narrowband green emitter. This moiety establishes not only a high-yield one-shot multiple Bora-Friedel-Crafts reaction towards a π-extended MR skeleton, but a compact N-ethylene-N motif for a red-shifted narrowband emission. An emission peak at 524 nm, a small full width at half maximum of 25 nm and a high photoluminescence quantum yield of 96 % are concurrently obtained in dilute toluene. The extended molecular plane also results in a large horizontal emitting dipole orientation ratio of 87 %. A maximum external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 36.6 % and a maximum power efficiency of 135.2 lm/W are thereafter recorded for the corresponding device, also allowing a low efficiency roll-off with EQEs of 34.5 % and 28.1 % at luminance of 1,000 cd/m2 and 10,000 cd/m2 , respectively.

Abstract
Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) using conventional fluorescent emitters are currently attracting considerable interests due to outstanding stability and abundant raw materials. To construct high-performance narrowband fluorophores to satisfy requirements of ultra-high-definition displays, a strategy fusing multi-resonance BN-doped moieties to naphthalene is proposed to construct two novel narrowband fluorophores. Green Na-sBN and red Na-dBN, manifest narrow full-width at half-maxima of 31 nm, near-unity photoluminescence quantum yields and molecular horizontal dipole ratios above 90 %. Their OLEDs exhibit the state-of-the-art performances including high external quantum efficiencies (EQE), ultra-low efficiency roll-off and long operational lifetimes. The Na-sBN-based device achieves EQE as high as 28.8 % and remains 19.8 % even at luminance of 100,000 cd m-2 , and Na-dBN-based device acquires a record-high EQE of 25.2 % among all red OLEDs using pure fluorescent emitters.

Abstract
Fusing condensed aromatics into multi-resonance (MR) frameworks has been an exquisite strategy to modulate the optoelectronic properties, which, however, always sacrifices the small full width at half maxima (FWHM). Herein, we strategically embed B-N/B-O contained heterocycles as fusion locker into classical MR prototypes, which could enlarge the π-extension and alleviate the steric repulsion for an enhanced planar skeleton to suppress the high-frequency stretching/ scissoring vibrations for ultra-narrowband emissions. Sky-blue emitters with extremely small FWHMs of 17-18 nm are thereafter obtained for the targeted emitters, decreased by (1.4-1.9)-fold compared with the prototypes. Benefiting from their high photoluminescence quantum yields of >90 % and fast radiative decay rates of >108 s-1 , one of those emitters shows a high maximum external quantum efficiency of 31.9 % in sensitized devices, which remains 25.8 % at a practical luminance of 1,000 cd m-2 with a small FWHM of merely 19 nm. Notably a long operation half-lifetime of 1,278 h is also recorded for the same device, representing one of the longest lifetimes among sky-blue devices based on MR emitters.

Abstract
The emerging nitrogen-embedded multiple resonance (MR) emitters with an indolo[3,2,1-jk] carbazole (ICz) unit have exhibited promising performance for high-resolution organic light-emitting diode (OLED) devices, while the underlying photophysics has been rarely reported. In this work, the optical spectra, color purity, and emitting efficiency of ICz-based MR emitters were investigated by using electronic structure and thermal vibration correlation function (TVCF) calculations. Unlike B-N MR emitters, the high color purity of investigated ICz-based MR emitters was mainly contributed by considerable structural rigidity, which also greatly affects the radiative decay rate and fluorescence quantum yield of the S1 state. For the majority of investigated emitters, potential reverse intersystem crossing (RISC) channels (T1 → S1 and T2 → S1) are limited by thermally inaccessible ΔEST* or insufficient spin-orbital coupling (SOC), which can be distinguished by the calculated temperature-dependent RISC rate pattern. We provided a systematic photophysical picture for ICz-based MR emitters that might be interesting for the OLED design and application community.

Abstract
Great achievements have been made in the development of organic light-emitting diodes in recent decades. However, achieving high color purity for blue emitters remains a challenge. In this study, we have designed and synthesized three naphthalene (NA)-embedded multi-resonance (MR) emitters, named SNA, SNB and SNB1, based on N-B-O frameworks with isomer variations for finely adjusting the photophysical properties. These emitters show tunable blue emission with emission peaks of 450-470 nm. Small full width of half maximum (FWHM) of 25-29 nm are achieved in these emitters, indicating the well maintaining of molecular rigidity and MR effect with NA extension. Such design also ensures a fast radiative decay. However, no obvious delayed fluorescence is observed in all three emitters due to the relatively large energy differences between the first singlet and triplet excited states. Both SNA and SNB enable high electroluminescent (EL) performance in doped devices with external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 7.2 and 7.9 %, respectively. When applying the sensitized strategy, devices based on SNA and SNB show huge improvement with EQE of 29.3 and 29.1 %. More importantly, SNB with twist geometry enables stable EL spectra with almost unchanged FWHM under different doping concentrations. This work demonstrates the potential of NA extension design in constructing narrowband emissive blue emitters.

Abstract
The boron/nitrogen (B/N)-based multiple resonance-thermally activated delayed fluorescence (MR-TADF) materials with tunable colors have attracted widespread attention owing to their great potential in next-generation display, white lighting, and imaging applications. Numerous MR-TADF emitters with different B/N number and position have been reported to realize full-color narrowband emissions. To gain a better understanding of the effect of B/N number and position on the photo-electronic properties, geometric and electronic properties, Huang-Rhys factors and reorganization energies, charger transfer and absorption/emission properties were analyzed in detail to determine the structure-property relationship for the investigated molecules. The calculated results show that the molecules with para-atoms having the same electronic characteristics (para-B-π-B/para-N-π-N) exhibited smaller structural relaxations upon excitation, and the molecules with increased B/N atoms showed more obvious short-range charge transfer (SRCT) properties. Besides, the para-B-π-N and para-B-π-B/para-N-π-N substructures could reduce and enhance the donor and acceptor strengths, respectively, leading to tunable HOMO-LUMO gaps and emission colors. Such theoretical insights well rationalize the experimental results, revealing that the small reorganization energy and dominant SRCT property should be two key factors in realizing narrowband emissions of MR-TADF materials. These findings and understandings could give an in-depth insight into the structure-property relationship, providing molecular design strategies for the exploration of narrowband MR-TADF materials with tunable emission colors.

Abstract
Atomically separated frontier molecular orbital (FMO) distribution plays a crucial role in achieving narrowband emissions for multiple resonance (MR)-type thermally activated delayed fluorescence emitters. Directly peripherally decorating a MR framework with donor or acceptor groups is a common strategy for developing MR emitters. However, this approach always induces bonding features and thus spectral broadening as a side effect. How direct donor/acceptor decoration enhances atomic FMO separation while avoiding bonding features has not been explored. For this aim, two MR derivatives are synthesized by integrating two MR frameworks at different sites. Following resonance alignment, DOBNA-m-CzBN avoids breaking nonbonding FMO features at the single connecting bond and shows enhanced MR characteristics, with a sharp emission at 491 nm and a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 24 nm/118 meV. Conversely, DOBNA-p-CzBN emerges as a bonding feature due to its continuous π-conjugation extension, with a broadened FWHM of 26 nm/132 meV peaking at 497 nm. Impressively, both emitters exhibit outstanding external quantum efficiencies of 37.8-38.6% in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), demonstrating improved performance with rigid acceptor decoration. Distinctly, the electroluminescence of DOBNA-m-CzBN shows a narrower FWHM than that of DOBNA-p-CzBN. This work for the first time reports the enhancement of atomic FMO separation for MR emitters via peripheral decoration through a single bond and provides a more comprehensive illustration for further development of MR emitters.

Abstract
Advanced circularly polarized multiple-resonance thermally activated delayed fluorescence (CP-MR-TADF) materials synergize the advantages of circularly polarized luminescence (CPL), narrowband emission, and the TADF characteristic, which can be fabricated into highly efficient circularly polarized organic light-emitting diodes (CP-OLEDs) with high color purity, directly facing the urgent market strategic demand of ultrahigh-definition and 3D displays. In this work, based on an edge-topology molecular-engineering (ETME) strategy, a pair of high-performance CP-MR-TADF enantiomers, (P and M)-BN-Py, is developed, which merges the intrinsically helical chirality into the MR framework. The optimized CP-OLEDs with (P and M)-BN-Py emitters and the newly developed ambipolar transport host PhCbBCz exhibit pure green emission with sharp peaks of 532 nm, full-width at half-maximum (FWHM) of 37 nm, and Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.29, 0.68). Importantly, they achieve remarkable maximum external quantum efficiencies (EQEs) of 30.6% and 29.2%, and clear circularly polarized electroluminescence (CPEL) signals with electroluminescence dissymmetry factors (gEL s) of -4.37 × 10-4 and +4.35 × 10-4 for (P)-BN-Py and (M)-BN-Py, respectively.

Abstract
Narrow-band deep-blue organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) have played a key role in the field of high-quality full-color displays. However, because of the considerable challenges of inherent band gaps, unbalanced carrier injection and the lack of molecular structures, narrow-band deep-blue emitters develop slowly compared with red- and green-emitting materials. Encouragingly, with the continuous efforts of scientists in recent years, great progress has been made in the molecule design and material synthesis of highly efficient narrow-band deep-blue emitters. The typical deep-blue emitters which exhibit narrow emission with a full width at half maximum of < 50 nm are summarized in this article. They are divided into the three categories: fluorescence, phosphorescence and thermally activated delayed fluorescence. The methods of molecular design for realizing narrow-band deep-blue emission are described in detail and future research directions are also discussed in this article.

Abstract
Thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitters based on multiple resonance (MR) effects are promising for high-definition organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) with narrowband emission and high efficiency. However, they still face the challenges of aggregation-caused quenching (ACQ) and spectral broadening. Solution-processable MR-TADF emitters with an external quantum efficiency (EQE) of >20% and a full width at half-maximum (fwhm) of <30 nm have rarely been reported. To construct ACQ-resistant emitters without sacrificing color purity, the aggregation-induced MR-TADF material 6TBN with a rigid B,N-containing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon core and four carbazole substituents as well as 12 tert-butyl groups on the periphery is designed. The multidimensional shielded effect largely limits the ACQ, intermolecular interactions, and spectral broadening. Consequently, solution-processed OLEDs based on 6TBN exhibit a maximum EQE of 23.0% and high color purity with a fwhm of 25 nm. Furthermore, the nondoped device achieves a high efficiency (12.3%) and merely a slight widening of the fwhm to 27 nm. This work provides a feasible strategy to achieve MR-TADF materials with resistance to concentration quenching and high color purity.

Abstract
Multiple resonance (MR) emitters are promising for the next-generation wide color gamut organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) with narrowband emissions; however, they still face intractable challenges such as concentration-induced emission quenching, exciton annihilation, and spectral broadening. In this concept, we focus on an advanced molecular design strategy called "sterically wrapping of MR fluorophores" to address the above issues. By isolating the MR emission core using bulky substituents, intermolecular interactions can be significantly suppressed to eliminate the formation of unfavorable species. Consequently, using the newly designed emitters, optimized MR-OLEDs can achieve high external quantum efficiencies of >40% while maintaining extremely small full width at half maxima (FWHMs) of <25 nm over a wide range of concentrations (1-20 wt%). This strategy may shed light on the design of efficient MR emitters, which provides more room for tuning the dopant concentrations under the premise of high-efficiencies and small FWHMs, accelerating the practical application of MR-OLEDs.

Abstract
The hunt for narrow-band emissive pure organic molecules capable of harvesting both singlet and triplet excitons for light emission has garnered enormous attention to promote the advancement of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Over the past decade, organic thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) materials based on donor (D)/acceptor (A) combinations have been researched for OLEDs in wide color gamut (RGB) regions. However, due to the strong intramolecular charge-transfer (CT) state, they exhibit broad emission with full-width-at-half maximum (FWHM) > 70 nm, which deviates from being detrimental to achieving high color purity for future high-end display electronics such as high-definition TVs and ultra-high-definition TVs (UHDTVs). Recently, the new development in the sub-class of TADF emitters called multi-resonant TADF (MR-TADF) emitters based on boron/nitrogen atoms has attracted much interest in ultra-high definition OLEDs. Consequently, MR-TADF emitters are appeal to their potentiality as promising candidates in fabricating the high-efficient OLEDs due to their numerous advantages such as high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY), unprecedented color purity, and narrow bandwidth (FWHM ≤ 40 nm). Until now many MR-TADF materials have been developed for ultra-gamut regions with different design concepts. However, most MR-TADF-OLEDs showed ruthless external quantum efficiency (EQE) roll-off characteristics at high brightness. Such EQE roll-off characteristics were derived mainly from the low reverse intersystem crossing (kRISC) rate values. This feature article primarily focuses on the design strategies to improve kRISC for MR-TADF materials with some supportive strategies including extending charge delocalization, heavy atom introduction, multi-donor/acceptor utilization, and a hyperfluorescence system approach. Furthermore, the outlook and prospects for future developments in MR-TADF skeletons are described.

Abstract
The development of deep-red thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitters is important for applications such as organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) and biological imaging. Design strategies for red-shifting emission include synthesizing rigid acceptor cores to limit nonradiative decay and employing strong electron-donating groups. In this work, three novel luminescent donor-acceptor compounds based on the dibenzo[a,c]dipyrido[3,2-h:20-30-j]-phenazine-12-yl (BPPZ) acceptor were prepared using dendritic carbazole-based donors 3,3″,6,6″-tetramethoxy-9'H-9,3':6',9″-tercarbazole (TMTC), N3,N3,N6,N6-tetra-p-tolyl-9H-carbazole-3,6-diamine (TTAC), and N3,N3,N6,N6-tetrakis(4-methoxyphenyl)-9H-carbazole-3,6-diamine (TMAC). Here, dimethoxycarbazole, ditolylamine, and bis(4-methoxyphenyl)amine were introduced at the 3,6-positions of carbazole to increase the strength of these donors and induce long-wavelength emission. Substituent effects were investigated with experiments and theoretical calculations. The emission maxima of these materials in toluene were found to be 562, 658, and 680 nm for BPPZ-2TMTC, BPPZ-2TTAC, and BPPZ-2TMAC, respectively, highlighting the exceptional strength of the TMAC donor, which pushes the emission into the deep-red region of the visible spectrum as well as into the biological transparency window (650-1350 nm). Long-lived emission lifetimes were observed in each emitter due to TADF in BPPZ-2TMC and BPPZ-2TTAC, as well as room-temperature phosphorescence in BPPZ-2TMAC. Overall, this work showcases deep-red emissive dendritic donor-acceptor materials which have potential as bioimaging agents with emission in the biological transparency window.

Abstract
Developing solution-processable red organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) with high color purity and efficiency based on multiple resonance thermally activated delayed fluorescence (MR-TADF) is a formidable challenge. Herein, by introducing auxiliary electron donor and acceptor moieties into the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) distributed positions of multiple resonance skeleton simultaneously, an effective strategy to obtain red MR-TADF emitters was represented. The proof-of-the-concept molecule BN-R exhibits a narrowband pure-red emission at 624 nm, with a high luminous efficiency of 94 % and a narrow bandwidth of 46 nm. Notably, the fabricated solution-processable pure-red OLED based on BN-R exhibits a state-of-the-art external quantum efficiency over 20 % with the Commission Internationale de I'Éclairage coordinates of (0.663, 0.337) and a long operational lifetime (LT50 ) of 1088 hours at an initial luminance of 1000 cd m-2 .

Abstract
Multiresonance (MR)-induced thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitters based on B- and N-embedded polycyclic aromatics are desirable for ultrahigh-definition organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) due to their high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) and narrow bandwidth. But the reverse intersystem crossing (RISC) rates of MR-TADF emitters are usually small, resulting in severe device efficiency roll-off at high brightness. To solve this issue, a sensitizer for the MR-TADF emitter has been required. Herein, a new MR-TADF emitter is developed through coordination of Au with B/N-embedded polycyclic ligand. Benefitting from the Au perturbation, the RISC rate is dramatically accelerated to 2.3 × 107 s-1 , leading to delayed fluorescence lifetime as short as 4.3 µs. Meanwhile, the PLQY of 95% and full width at half maximum of 39 nm (0.18 eV) are essentially unchanged after metal coordination. Therefore, a high PLQY, short delayed fluorescence lifetime, and high color purity are concurrently realized in a single TADF emitter. Accordingly, vacuum-deposited OLEDs exhibit high-performance electroluminescence with a maximum external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 35.8% without sensitization. The EQE is maintained as high as 32.3% at 10 000 cd m-2 . Furthermore, solution-processed OLED based on the emitter also achieves excellent performance with a maximum EQE of 25.7% and a small efficiency roll-off.

Abstract
Chiral boron/nitrogen doped multiple resonance thermally activated delayed fluorescence (MR-TADF) emitters are promising for highly efficient and color-pure circularly polarized organic light-emitting diodes (CP-OLEDs). Herein, we report two pairs of MR-TADF materials (Czp-tBuCzB, Czp-POAB) based on planar chiral paracyclophane with photoluminescence quantum yields of up to 98 %. The enantiomers showed symmetric circularly polarized photoluminescence spectra with dissymmetry factors |gPL | of up to 1.6×10-3 in doped films. Meanwhile, the sky-blue CP-OLEDs with (R/S)-Czp-tBuCzB showed an external quantum efficiency of 32.1 % with the narrowest full-width at half-maximum of 24 nm among the reported CP-OLEDs, while the devices with (R/S)-Czp-POAB displayed the first nearly pure green CP electroluminescence with |gEL | factors at the 10-3 level. These results demonstrate the incorporation of planar chirality into MR-TADF emitter is a reliable strategy for constructing of efficient CP-OLEDs.

Abstract
The pursuit of ideal narrowband yellow multiple resonance (MR) emitters is hampered by the mutual constraints of effective spectral redshift and maintaining a small full width at half maximum (FWHM) value. Here, a novel multiple fusion molecular design strategy is reported to break this trade-off. Compared with the selected narrowband parent core, the specific multiple MR effects in target molecules can simultaneously extend the π-conjugation length, increase the rigidity of the structure, and reduce the vibrational frequency. Proof-of-the-concept emitters BN-DICz and DBN-ICz show bright yellowish green to yellow emissions in dilute toluene solutions with peaks at 533-542 nm and extremely small FWHMs of ≤20 nm. Notably, BN-DICz-based electroluminescent device exhibits excellent efficiencies of 37.4%, 136.6 cd A-1 , and 119.2 lm W-1 with an FWHM of merely 23 nm, representing the best performance for yellow MR organic light-emitting diodes.

Abstract
Multiple-resonance thermally activated delayed fluorescence (MR-TADF) emitters have emerged as an important component of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) because of their narrowband emission and high exciton utilization efficiency. However, the chemical space of MR-TADF emitters remains mostly unexplored because of the lack of suitable synthetic protocols. Herein, we demonstrate a sequential multiple borylation reaction that provides new synthetically accessible chemical space. ω-DABNA, the proof-of-concept material, exhibited narrowband green TADF with a full width at half-maximum of 22 nm and a small singlet-triplet energy gap of 13 meV. The OLED employing it as an emitter exhibited electroluminescence at 512 nm, with Commission International de l'Éclairage coordinates of (0.13, 0.73) and a high external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 31.1%. Moreover, the device showed minimum efficiency roll-off, with an EQE of 29.4% at 1000 cd m-2.

Precise Functionalization of a Multiple-Resonance Framework: Constructing Narrowband Organic Electroluminescent Materials with External Quantum Efficiency over 40. Abstract
It is of important strategic significance to develop high-efficiency narrowband organic electroluminescent materials that can be employed to fabricate ultrahigh-definition displays with wide color gamut. This topic implies a great challenge to molecular design and synthesis, especially for the development of universality, diversity, scalability, and robustness of molecular architectonics. In this work, a synthetic methodology is demonstrated for functionalizing brominated BN-containing multiple-resonance (MR) frameworks with multifarious functional groups, such as donors, acceptors, and moieties without obvious push-pull electron properties. The m-DPAcP-BNCz-based organic light-emitting diode (OLED) exhibits green emission with a full-width at half-maximum (FWHM) of 28 nm and a maximum external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 40.6%. The outstanding performance of m-DPAcP-BNCz is attributed to the perfect integration of the inherent advantages of the MR framework and the donor-acceptor configuration, which can not only achieve bathochromic shift and narrowband emission, but also obtain high photoluminescence (PL) quantum yield (ΦPL ) and horizontal emitting dipole orientation ratio (Θ// ). This straightforward and efficient approach provides insightful guidance for the construction and enrichment of more high-efficiency narrowband emitters.

Abstract
Thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) materials, which can harvest all excitons and emit light without the use of noble metals, are an appealing class of functional materials emerging as next-generation organic electroluminescent materials. Triplet excitons can be upconverted to the singlet state with the aid of ambient thermal energy under the reverse inter-system crossing owing to the small singlet-triplet splitting energy (ΔEST). This results from a specific molecular design consisting of minimal overlap between the highest occupied molecular orbital and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital, due to the spatial separation of the electron-donating and electron-releasing part. When a well-designed device structure is applied, high-performance blue-emitting TADF organic light-emitting diodes can be realized with an appropriate molecular design. Unlike the previous literature that has reviewed general blue-emitting TADF materials, in this paper, we focus on materials other than pure organic molecules with twist D-π-A structures, including multi-resonance TADF, through-space charge transfer TADF, and metal-TADF materials. Cutting-edge molecules with extremely small and even negative ΔEST values are also introduced as candidates for next-generation TADF materials. In addition, OLED structures used to exploit the merits of the abovementioned TADF emitters are also described in this review.

Abstract
Ultra-narrowband blue multi-resonance-induced thermally activated delayed fluorescence (MR-TADF) materials (V-DABNA and V-DABNA-F), consisting of three DABNA subunits possessing phenyl or 2,6-difluorophenyl substituents on the peripheral nitrogen atoms are synthesized by one-shot triple borylation. Benefiting from the inductive effect of fluorine atoms, the emission maximum of V-DABNA-F (464 nm) is blueshifted from that of the parent V-DABNA (481 nm), while maintaining a small full width at half maximum (FWHM, 16 nm) and a high rate constant for reverse intersystem crossing (6.5 × 105 s-1 ). The organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) using V-DABNA and V-DABNA-F as emitters are fabricated by vapor deposition and exhibit blue emission at 483 and 468 nm with small FWHMs of 17 and 15 nm, corresponding to Commission Internationale d'Éclairage coordinates of (0.09, 0.27) and (0.12, 0.10), respectively. Both devices achieve high external quantum efficiencies of 26.2% and 26.6% at the maximum with minimum efficiency roll-offs of 0.9% and 3.2%, respectively, even at 1000 cd m-2 , which are record-setting values for blue MR-TADF OLEDs.

Abstract
The subclass of multi resonant thermally activated delayed fluorescent emitters (MR-TADF) containing boron atoms has garnered significant attention in the field of organic light emitting diode (OLED) research. Among boron-based MR-TADF emitters, double boron-embedded MR-TADF (DB-MR-TADF) emitters show excellent electroluminescence performances with high photoluminescence quantum yields, narrow band emission, and beneficially small singlet-triplet energy levels in all the full-color gamut regions. This article reviews recent progress in DB-MR-TADF emitters, with particular attention to molecular design concepts, synthetic routes, optoelectronic properties, and OLED performance, giving future prospects for real-world applications.

Abstract
AbstractColor-saturated green-emitting molecules with high Commission Internationale de L’Eclairage (CIE) y values have great potential applications for displays and imaging. Here, we linked the outer phenyl groups in multiple-resonance (MR)-type blue-emitting B (boron)-N (nitrogen) molecules through bonding and spiro-carbon bridges, resulting in rigid green emitters with thermally activated delayed fluorescence. The MR effect and multiple interlocking strategy greatly suppressed the high-frequency vibrations in the molecules, which emit green light with a full-width at half-maximum of 14 nm and a CIE y value of 0.77 in cyclohexane. These were the purest green molecules with quantum efficiency and color purity that were comparable with current best quantum dots. Doping these emitters into a traditional green-emitting phosphorescence organic light-emitting diode (OLED) endowed the device with a Broadcast Service Television 2020 color-gamut, 50% improved external quantum efficiency, and an extremely high luminescence of 5.1 × 105 cd/m2, making it the greenest and brightest OLED ever reported.

Abstract
Narrowband emissive organoboron emitters featuring the multi-resonance (MR) effect have now become a critical material component for constructing high-performance organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) with pure emission colors. These MR organoboron emitters are capable of exhibiting high-efficiency narrowband thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) by allowing triplet-to-singlet reverse intersystem crossing (RISC). However, RISC involving spin-flip exciton upconversion is generally the rate-limiting step in the overall TADF; hence, a deeper understanding and precise control of the RISC dynamics are ongoing crucial challenges. Here, we introduce the first MR organoboron emitter (CzBSe) doped with a selenium atom, demonstrating a record-high RISC rate exceeding 108 s-1 , which is even higher than its fluorescence radiation rate. Furthermore, the spin-flip upconversion process in CzBSe can be accelerated by factors of ≈20000 and ≈800, compared to those of its oxygen- and sulfur-doped homologs (CzBO and CzBS), respectively. Unlike CzBO and CzBS, the photophysical rate-limiting step in CzBSe is no longer RISC, but the fluorescence radiation process; this behavior is completely different from the conventional time-delaying TADF limited by the slow RISC. Benefitting from its ultrafast exciton spin conversion ability, OLEDs incorporating CzBSe achieved a maximum external electroluminescence quantum efficiency as high as 23.9 %, accompanied by MR-induced blue narrowband emission and significantly alleviated efficiency roll-off features.

Abstract
Multiple resonance (MR)-effect-induced thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) materials have garnered significant attention because they can achieve both high color purity and high external quantum efficiency (EQE). However, the reported green-emitting MR-TADF materials exhibit broader emission compared to those of blue-emitting ones and suffer from severe efficiency roll-off due to insufficient rate constants of reverse intersystem crossing process (kRISC ). Herein, a pure green MR-TADF material (ν-DABNA-CN-Me) with high kRISC of 105 s-1 is reported. The key to success is introduction of cyano groups into a blue-emitting MR-TADF material (ν-DABNA), which causes remarkable bathochromic shift without a loss of color purity. The organic light-emitting diode employing it as an emitter exhibits green emission at 504 nm with a small full-width at half-maximum of 23 nm, corresponding to Commission Internationale d'Éclairage coordinates of (0.13, 0.65). The device achieves a high maximum EQE of 31.9% and successfully suppresses the efficiency roll-off at a high luminance.

Abstract
Multiple resonance (MR) type thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitters have attracted much recent attention due to their narrow emission spectra and high photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs). Spectral broadening and concentration quenching at high doping concentrations are two issues currently limiting the development of MR-TADF emitters. However, the origins of these have not been fully clarified so far. In this work, by investigating emitters with the same MR cores but peripheral groups of different steric types, we distinguished that the spectral broadening and concentration quenching are mainly caused by excimer formation and triplet exciton annihilation, respectively. This understanding on aggregated behaviors of MR emitters provides new insight for the further development of high-performance MR-TADF emitters with low concentration sensitivities.
