Abstract
An efficient, selective and sustainable protocol was developed for the CuCl2 /TEMPO/TMEDA-catalyzed aerobic oxidation of activated alcohols to the corresponding carbonyl compounds using water or the environmentally friendly low melting mixture (LMM) d-fructose-urea as the reaction medium. Such oxidation reactions proceed under mild (room temperature or 40 °C) and aerobic conditions, with the carbonyl derivatives isolated in up to 98 % yield and within 4 h reaction time when using the above-mentioned LMM. The potential application of this methodology is demonstrated by setting up useful telescoped, one-pot two-step hybrid transformations for the direct conversion of primary alcohols either into secondary alcohols or into valuable nitroalkenes, by combining oxidation processes with nucleophilic additions promoted by highly polarized organometallic compounds (Grignard and organolithium reagents) or with nitroaldol (Henry) reactions, respectively.

Abstract
Design and preparation of low-cost, effective, and novel catalysts are important topics in the field of heterogeneous catalysis from academic and industrial perspectives. Recently, heteroatom-doped porous carbon/metal materials have received significant attention as promising catalysts in divergent organic reactions. Incorporation of heteroatom into the carbon framework can tailor the properties of carbon, providing suitable interaction between support and metal, resulting in superior catalytic performance compared with those of traditional pure carbon/metal catalytic systems. In this review, we try to underscore the recent advances in the design, preparation, and application of heteroatom-doped porous carbon/metal catalysts towards various organic transformations.

Abstract
The development of cost-effective, efficient, and novel catalytic systems is always an important topic for heterogeneous catalysis from academia and industrial points of view. Heteroatom-doped carbon materials have gained more and more attention as effective heterogeneous catalysts to replace metal-based catalysts, because of their excellent physicochemical properties, outstanding structure characteristics, environmental compatibility, low cost, inexhaustible resources, and low energy consumption. Doping of heteroatoms can tailor the properties of carbons for different utilizations of interest. In comparison to pure carbon catalysts, these catalysts demonstrate superior catalytic activity in many organic reactions. This review highlights the most recent progress in synthetic strategies to fabricate metal-free heteroatom-doped carbon catalysts including single and multiple heteroatom-doped carbons and the catalytic applications of these fascinating materials in various organic transformations such as oxidation, hydrogenation, hydrochlorination, dehydrogenation, etc.

Abstract
In the present work, a temperature and pH-responsive hybrid catalytic system using copolymer-capped mesoporous silica particles with metal nanoparticles is proposed. The poly(2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate)(DMAEMA)-co-N-tert-butyl acrylamide) (TBA)) shell on mesoporous silica SBA-15 was obtained through free radical polymerization. Then, copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) decorated SBA-15/copolymer hybrid materials were synthesized using the NaBH4 reduction method. SBA-15 was functionalized with trimethoxylsilylpropyl methacrylate (TMSPM) and named TSBA. It was found that the CuNPs were uniformly dispersed in the mesoporous channels of SBA-15, and the hybrid catalyst exhibited excellent catalytic performance for the selective oxidation of different substituted benzyl alcohols in water using H2O2 as an oxidant at room temperature. The dual (temperature and pH-) responsive behaviors of the CuNPs/p(DMAEMA-co-TBA)/TSBA catalyst were investigated using the dynamic light scattering technique. The conversion of catalytic products and selectivity were calculated using gas chromatographic techniques, whereas the molecular structure of the products was identified using 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. The catalyst showed excellent catalytic activity toward the oxidation of alcohol to aldehyde in an aqueous medium below the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) and pKa values (7–7.5) of the copolymer. The main advantages of the hybrid catalyst, as compared to the existing catalysts, are outstanding alcohol conversion (up to 99%) for a short reaction time (1 h), small amount of the catalyst (5 mg), and good recyclability equal to at least five times.

Abstract
Recently, Cu nanoparticles (NPs) encapsulated into various materials as supports (e.g., zeolite, silica) have attracted much devotion due to their unique catalytic properties such as high catalytic activity, intensive reactivity and selectivity through highly protective properties. Nowadays, the superior catalytic activity of Cu-NPs, encapsulated onto zeolite, silica and different porous systems, is extensively investigated and now well-established. As a matter of fact, Cu-NPs are protected from deactivation by this kind of encapsulation. Thus, their exclusion proceeds smoothly, and their recyclability is significantly increased. Cu-NPs have been used as potential heterogeneous catalysts in different chemical transformations. In this review, we try to show the preparation and applications of Cu(0) encapsulated nanocatalysts in zeolite and silica as superior catalytic systems in Cu-catalyzed organic transformations. In addition, the catalytic activity of these encapsulated Cu-NPs in different important organic transformations (such as hydrogenation, oxidation and carbon-carbon bond formations) are compared with those of a variety of organic, inorganic and hybrid porous bearing a traded metal ion. Moreover, the results from the TGA/DTA analysis and optical properties of Cu-complexes are demonstrated. The inherited characteristic merits of the encapsulated Cu-NPs onto zeolite and silica, such as their low leaching, catalytic activity, reusability economic feasibility and originality are critically considered.

Abstract
Among a plethora of known and established oxidant in organic chemistry, hydrogen peroxide stands in a special position. It is commercially and inexpensively available, highly effective, selective, and more importantly it is compatible with current environmental concerns, dictated by principles of green chemistry. Several chemicals or their intermediates that are important in our daily life such as pharmaceuticals, flavors, fragrances, etc. are products of oxidation of alcohols. In this review, we introduce hydrogen peroxide as an effective, selective, green and privileged oxidant for the catalyzed oxidation of primary and secondary benzylic and heterocyclic alcohols to corresponding carbonyl compounds in different media such as aqueous media, under solvent-free conditions, various organic solvent, and dual-phase system.

Abstract
A novel series of N-functionalized 4-aryl-tetrahydrobiquinoline-2,5-(1H,3H)-diones were synthesized in high yields by a one-pot three-component reaction involving 2-chloroquinoline-3-carbaldehydes, Meldrum’s acid, and enaminones (dimedone-based enaminones) in the presence of K2CO3 in CH3CN under reflux condition. To gain a deep insight on the mechanism of the reaction, an extensive series of quantum mechanics calculations in the framework of density functional theory (DFT) were carried out for supporting the suggested reaction pathway.

Regarding the important applications of these metal-organo 1,2,3-triazole-based complexes, in this review, we focused on the recently reported investigations of the structural, electronic, and spectroscopic aspects of the complexation process in transition metal complexes of 1,2,3-triazole-based click ligands. In line with this, the coordination properties of these triazole-based click ligands with transition metals were studied via several quantum chemistry calculations. Moreover, considering the complexation process, we have presented comparative discussions between the computational results and the available experimental data.

Abstract
A quantitative description for the interaction of Cu(I) with poly(styrene-co-maleic anhydride) modified with 4-aminopyridine (denoted as CuI/SMI complex) is presented using density functional theory (DFT) and quantum theory of atoms in molecules (QTAIM) approaches. Topological analysis of electron density revealed the existence of effective interactions between Cu(I) ions and the nitrogen in the pyridine ring. Interestingly, the results also showed that there is considerable interaction between Cu(I) and the oxygen of the carbonyl motif in the SMI ligand. Thus, CuI/SMI was examined as a heterogeneous and recyclable catalyst in Hantzsch pyridine synthesis under solvent-free conditions, affording diverse 1,4-dihydropyridines (1,4-DHPs) in excellent yields with relatively short reaction times.
