Abstract
Copper nanoclusters (Cu NCs) are a new fluorescent material that is often used for determining metal ions, but most sensing systems are based on the "turn-off" model. Here, a "turn-on" model of fluorescence sensing for the detection of Cr(VI) was developed based on Cu NCs@MIL-101 composites. The Cu NCs@MIL-101 composites were synthesized from a simple mixture of Cu NCs and MIL-101(Cr), in which the Cu NCs were uniformly distributed in MIL-101(Cr). Notably, the fluorescence intensity of Cu NCs@MIL-101 was significantly weakened due to the internal filtration effect (IFE) of MIL-101. When Cr(VI) was introduced, the fluorescence of Cu NCs@MIL-101 was recovered by the guest exchange process between Cr(VI) and the Cu NCs, which overcame the IFE of Cu NCs@MIL-101. Based on this, a "turn-on" fluorescence probe was successfully constructed for the quantitative detection of Cr(VI) with two linear ranges of 0.05-1 μM and 1-20 μM, and a low detection limit of 0.05 μM. The proposed fluorescence probe possessed excellent selectivity and anti-interference ability, and was successfully applied for the detection of Cr(VI) in real water samples with satisfactory results. This study provides a new approach for the analytical application of Cu NCs.

Abstract
In this report, we synthesized some pyrimidine derivatives by multi-component reaction of urea, benzaldehydes, and 1,3-indandione in the presence of ZIF-8/ZnFe2O4/GO-OSO3H nanocomposite under reflux conditions. Initially, graphene oxide was prepared from graphite, and then it was sulfonated using ClOSO3H. Next, GO-OSO3H nanosheets were used to support ZIF-8/ZnFe2O4 nanostructure. The construction of the synthesized structure was established using different spectral techniques such as X-ray crystallography (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX/Mapping), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET). The present method provides various benefits including the efficiency of outcomes, easy separation of the catalyst, and excellent yield of the products within short reaction times. Moreover, the antibacterial activities of pyrimidine derivatives were investigated via the agar-well diffusion method on gram-negative (Escherichia coli) and gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus) bacteria and the obtained results illustrated reasonable effects.

Abstract
A biologically active agent based on a Zn-1,3,5-benzen tricarboxylic acid (Zn-BTC) framework incorporated into a chitosan (CS) biopolymer (Zn-BTC@CS) was successfully synthesized using a microwave irradiation technique. The synthesized Zn-BTC@CS was characterized using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and the obtained data indicated a highly smooth surface morphology of the synthesized Zn-BTC and no morphological changes when the Zn-BTC covered the CS. In addition, the particle size diameter varied from 20 to 40 nm. XRD displayed a well-maintained Zn-BTC structure, and the crystal structure of Zn-BTC was not distorted by the composition of Zn-BTC and chitosan in the nanocomposite. Data from BET analysis revealed that the specific surface area of the Zn-BTC was reduced from 995.15 m2/g to 15.16 m2/g after coating with chitosan. The pore size distribution and pore volume of the Zn-BTC, Zn-BTC@CS were centered at 37.26 nm and at 22.5 nm, respectively. Zn-BTC@CS exhibited anticancer efficacy against lung and colon cancer cell lines. Zn-BTC@CS inhibited the proliferation of A549 and DLD-1 cancer cell lines in a dose-dependent manner with IC50 values of 13.2 and 19.8 µg/mL for the colon and lung cancer cell lines, respectively. Zn-BTC@CS stimulated the apoptotic process through up-regulating P53 expression and down-regulating Bcl-2 expression. Moreover, Zn-BTC@CS induced in vitro DNA fragmentation in both cancer cell lines with significantly different affinity by 66% (A549) and 20% (DLD-1) versus 52% reduction by Cisplatin. Zn-BTC@CS (IC50) exhibited anti-invasive activity and dramatically inhibited the migration of lung and colon cancer cell lines. This study provides evidence that Zn-BTC@CS targets the essential proteins involved in proliferation, metastasis, and apoptosis. Thus, Zn-BTC@CS has chemotherapeutic potential for inhibiting lung and colon cancer viability and growth.

Abstract
A copper-based metal-organic framework, [Cu2(PBTDA)(H2O)2] (UTSA-98, UTSA = the University of Texas at San Antonio; H4PBTDA = 5',5''''-(1,4-phenylene)bis([1,1':3',1″-terphenyl]-4,4″-dicarboxylic acid)), has been solvothermally synthesized. The alternative connection of classical dicopper secondary building units and deprotonated four-branched PBTDA4- ligands led to the formation of the three-dimensional framework of UTSA-98 with one-dimensional rhombic channels. Its guest-free phase, UTSA-98a, uptakes much more C2H2 (82.6 cm3/g) than CO2 (40.3 cm3/g) at 298 K and 100 kPa, resulting in a high adsorption selectivity of 5.2. Furthermore, the efficient separation ability of UTSA-98a toward the C2H2/CO2 gas mixture was further verified by laboratory-scale fixed-bed breakthrough experiments.

Abstract
The rise in bacterial resistance to currently used antibiotics is the main focus of medical researchers. Bacterial multidrug resistance (MDR) is a major threat to humans, as it is linked to greater rates of chronic disease and mortality. Hence, there is an urgent need for developing effective strategies to overcome the bacterial MDR. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a new class of porous crystalline materials made up of metal ions and organic ligands that can vary their pore size and structure to better encapsulate drug candidates. This study reports the synthesis of ribose-coated Cu-MOFs for enhanced bactericidal activity of chloramphenicol (CHL) against Escherichia coli (resistant and sensitive) and MDR Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The synthesized Cu-MOFs were characterized with DLS, FT-IR, powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, and atomic force microscope. They were further investigated for their efficacy against selected bacterial strains. The synthesized ribose-coated Cu-MOFs were observed as spherical shape structure with the particle size of 562.84 ± 13.42 nm. CHL caused the increased inhibition of E. coli and MDR P. aeruginosa with significantly reduced MIC and MBIC values after being encapsulated in ribose-coated Cu-MOFs. The morphological analysis of the bacterial strains treated with ribose-coated CHL-Cu-MOFs showed the complete morphological distortion of both E. coli and MDR P. aeruginosa. Based on the results of the study, it can be suggested that ribose-coated Cu-MOFs may be an effective alternate candidate to overcome the MDR and provide new perspective for the treatment of MDR bacterial infections.

Abstract
A nanocomposite was formed by combining graphene oxide (GO) with chromium-centered metal-organic framework (Cr-MOF) nanoparticles regulated by the dendrimer polyamidoamine (PAMAM). PAMAM can successfully regulate the synthesis of Cr-MOF; in doing so, the size of Cr-MOF is reduced, its original morphology is maintained, and it has good crystallinity. A simple ultrasonication method was used to make the Cr-MOF/GO hybrid nanocomposite. Various characterization methods confirmed the successful synthesis of PAMAM/Cr-MOF/GO nanocomposites. The PAMAM/Cr-MOF/ERGO modified electrode could be used with cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) to study the electrochemical behaviors of 1-hydroxypyrene (1-OHPyr). The results indicated that the constructed PAMAM/Cr-MOF/ERGO electrochemical sensor had a significantly enhanced electrocatalytic effect on the electrochemical reduction of 1-OHPyr compared with the sensors with no PAMAM and the ERGO sensor, which could be ascribed to the synergetic effect from the high porosity of Cr-MOF and the high conductivity of ERGO, as well as the further electron transport action of the nanocomposite. Under the optimal conditions, the reduction peak current and concentration of 1-OHPyr showed a good linear relationship in the range of 0.1-1.0 and 1.0-6.0 μM, and the detection limit of 1-OHPyr was calculated to be 0.075 μM. Moreover, the PAMAM/Cr-MOF/ERGO electrochemical sensor constructed in this paper can be expected to provide some instructions for the construction of electrochemical sensing platforms and wider potential applications.

Abstract
Two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterials have received a significant research attention owing to their unique chemical and physical properties. These materials not only provide the chemically active sites and exposed surface atoms, but also display the porous nature suitable for their use as membranes for gas separation. In this study, 3D CAU-10-H has been transformed into a novel alkali stabilized 2D CACl-10 (180). Though CACl-10 (180) is similar to AlOOH, it is a novel 2D nanomaterial synthesized by using 4-chloroisophthalic acid and aluminum nitrate nonahydrate, with thermal decomposition at 300 °C. Further, CACl-10 (180) is noted to retain its framework structure in strong alkali solutions, attributed to the alkali-resistant aluminum hydroxide. At the same time, it has been demonstrated that 3D CAU-10-H can also transform into 3D CACl-10 (140) and 3D CACl-10 (130), and the halogen atoms of the ligands (-Cl) affect the alkali stability of the materials. Subsequently, the PVAm-CACl-10 (180)/MPSf mixed matrix membranes were prepared and applied for CH4 /N2 separation. The developed membrane exhibits the CH4 permeance of 1647.99 GPU with a CH4 /N2 selectivity of 3.1. As a result, 2D CACl-10 (180), with a strong alkali stability and an acceptable CH4 /N2 membrane separation performance, represents a high potential of application in the membrane separation process.

Abstract
Heterocyclic compounds are among the most prestigious and valuable chemical molecules with diverse and magnificent applications in various sciences. Due to the remarkable and numerous properties of the heterocyclic frameworks, the development of efficient and convenient synthetic methods for the preparation of such outstanding compounds is of great importance. Undoubtedly, catalysis has a conspicuous role in modern chemical synthesis and green chemistry. Therefore, when designing a chemical reaction, choosing and or preparing powerful and environmentally benign simple catalysts or complicated catalytic systems for an acceleration of the chemical reaction is a pivotal part of work for synthetic chemists. Chitosan, as a biocompatible and biodegradable pseudo-natural polysaccharide is one of the excellent choices for the preparation of suitable catalytic systems due to its unique properties. In this review paper, every effort has been made to cover all research articles in the field of one-pot synthesis of heterocyclic frameworks in the presence of chitosan-based catalytic systems, which were published roughly by the first quarter of 2020. It is hoped that this review paper can be a little help to synthetic scientists, methodologists, and catalyst designers, both on the laboratory and industrial scales.

Abstract
Radioactive iodine is extremely harmful to the environment, and it is of great significance to develop materials that efficiently remove iodine. We prepared two triazole metal complexes with simple method, denoted as Zn(tr)(OAc) and Zn(ttr)(OAc), which were used to adsorb iodine from aqueous solution. The properties and adsorption mechanism of the two materials were studied by different techniques including XRD, SEM, N2 porosimetry at 77 K, FTIR, TGA, elemental analysis (EDS), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The results showed that both materials had good water and thermal stability. Pseudo-second-order kinetic model was better at describing the iodine adsorption kinetics onto the adsorbents. It was proved that chemical adsorption dominated, iodine mainly enriched on the materials in the form of I3-1. Zn(ttr)(OAc) had a higher adsorption capacity than Zn(tr)(OAc) due to the electron-donating group -NH2. The maximum adsorption capacity of the two materials for iodine reached 714.501 mg·g-1 and 846.108 mg·g-1 at 25 °C.

Abstract
In this paper, a novel porous polymer capable of coordinating to bismuth (PCPs-Bi) was synthesized. The Bi-PCPs was then reacted with phosphorous acid to produce a novel polymer PCPs(Bi)N(CH2PO3H2)2 which is shown to act as an efficient and recyclable catalyst. The mentioned catalyst was applied for the efficient synthesis of new mono and bis naphthoquinone-based salts of piperidine and/or piperazine via the reaction of hennotannic acid with various aldehydes, piperidine and/or piperazine, respectively. The structure of the resulting mono and bis substituted piperazine or piperidine-based naphthoquinone salts was thoroughly characterized spectroscopically. The electrochemical behavior of the products was also investigated. The presented protocol has the advantages of excellent yields (82-95%), short reaction times (4-30 min) and simple work-up.

Abstract
Effective and substantial remediation of contaminants especially heavy metals from water is still a big challenge in terms of both environmental and biological perspectives because of their adverse effects on the human health. Many techniques including adsorption, ion exchange, co-precipitation, chemical reduction, ultrafiltration, etc. are reported for eliminating heavy metal ions from the water. However, adsorption has preferred because of its simple and easy handlings. Several types of adsorbents are observed and documented well for the purpose. Recently, highly porous metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) were developed by incorporating metals and organic ligands together and claimed as potent adsorbents for the remediation of highly toxic heavy metals from the aqueous solutions due to their unique features like greater surface area, high chemical stability, green and reuse material, etc. In this review, the authors discussed systematically some recent developments about secure MOFs to eliminate the toxic metals such as arsenic (both arsenite and arsenate), chromium(VI), cadmium (Cd), mercury (Hg) and lead (Pb). MOFs are observed as the most efficient adsorbents with greater selectivity as well as high adsorption capacity for metallic contamination. Graphical abstract.

Abstract
The analytical detection and quantification of abuse drugs such as morphine (MOR) in biological samples are vital missions and remains to attract challenges for forensic toxicology, law enforcement, world antidoping organization, and social health fields. MOR, a benchmark analgesic drug known as "pain killer", is one of the powerful opioid medications for relieving pain, and overdose of MOR is toxic. In this article, novel promising chromium metal-organic framework nanoparticles [Cr(III)-MOF-NPs] were produced via facile synthesis and characterized using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy/energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, elemental analysis, UV-vis, Fourier transform infrared, and thermogravimetry/differential scanning calorimetry, as well as photoluminescence (PL) investigation and magnetic properties. The PL study results revealed that the Cr(III)-MOF-NPs exhibited an emission band at 593 nm. The Cr(III)-MOF-NPs could be used in fast, selective, and sensitive MOR detection and quantification. Under the optimum experimental conditions, with the addition of MOR, a blueshift from 593 to 566 nm occurred with a remarkable PL intensity enhancement, and the color changed from brown to yellow (visually/naked-eye detection). The Cr(III)-MOF-NPs optical chemosensor exhibited a stable response for MOR in a concentration range between 0.1 and 350 nM. The detection and quantification limits were 0.167 and 0.443 nM, respectively, with a correlation coefficient (r 2) of 0.96. The developed PL chemosensor showed high selectivity for MOR over other competing interfering matrices. Moreover, the ultrasensitive chemosensor was extensively used for the determination of MOR spiked in different real samples (serum and urine samples) with acceptable recoveries and satisfactory results.

Abstract
Functionalized metal-organic frameworks (F-MOFs) are known as a promising chemical sensors since they have specific merits like fixed functionalized ligands projecting into the pores which can be utilized to enhance sensitivity and selectivity. Due to the important role of anions in biological process and environmental systems, there is an increasing interest in synthesis and design of new receptors for anions. Urea groups can operate as a hydrogen bond donating site with hydrogen bond acceptor molecules. Strong and directional hydrogen-bonding between the positive urea groups and anions could reduce vibrational quenching and enhance the fluorescence intensity. In this study, two luminescent porous urea decorated MOFs have been successfully assembled and structurally characterized. Luminescence studies of these MOFs toward anions revealed that these F-MOFs exhibit high sensitivity and selectivity toward H2AsO4- and F- anions as two major ground water pollutants. Moreover, the proposed materials have been applied for the removal of arsenate and nitrate in contaminant well water samples. Graphical abstract.

Abstract
In the current paper, we successfully developed and used metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) based on MIL-101(Cr)-NH2 with phosphorus acid functional groups MIL-101(Cr)-N(CH2PO3H2)2. The synthesized metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as a multi-functional heterogeneous and nanoporous catalyst were used for the synthesis of N-amino-2-pyridone and pyrano [2,3-c]pyrazole derivatives via reaction of ethyl cyanoacetate or ethyl acetoacetate, hydrazine hydrate, malononitrile, and various aldehydes. The final step of the reaction mechanism was preceded by a cooperative vinylogous anomeric-based oxidation. Recycle and reusability of the described catalyst MIL-101(Cr)-N(CH2PO3H2)2 were also investigated.

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a class of crystalline porous materials that have been actively used for several industrial and synthetic applications. MOFs are spatially and geometrically extrapolated coordination polymers with intriguing properties such as tunable porosity and dimensionality. In terms of their catalytic efficiency, MOFs combine the easy recoverability of heterogeneous catalysts with the increased selectivity of biological catalysts. It is therefore not surprising that a lot of work on optimizing MOF catalysts for organic transformations has been carried out over the past decade. In this review, recent developments in MOF catalysis are summarized, with special attention being paid to C-C, C-N, and C-O coupling reactions. The influence of pore size, pore environment, and load on catalytic activity is described. Post-synthetic stabilization techniques and host-guest interactions in caged MOF scaffolds are detailed. Mechanistic aspects pertaining to the use of MOFs in asymmetric heterogeneous catalysis are highlighted and categorized.
