Abstract
The combination of layered double hydroxides (LDH) with graphene oxide (GO) enables the formation of nanohybrids with improved properties. This work focuses on the structural and catalytic properties of Ce-containing MgAl LDH-GO composites bearing different concentrations of GO in the range of 5-25 wt.%. The synthesis of the composites was performed by co-precipitating the LDH phase in the presence of GO, while their characterization was performed using XRF, XRD, DRIFT, Raman, SEM, nitrogen adsorption-desorption, and acidity-basicity measurements. The LDH-GO composites, showing redox, basic, and acid catalytic functions, were tested in two different types of organic transformations: (i) Knoevenagel condensation and (ii) one-pot cascade oxidation-Knoevenagel condensation. (i) The cinnamic acid was synthesized by the Knoevenagel condensation of benzaldehyde with diethylmalonate. The composites showed catalytic performances in strong contrast to neat LDH or GO, suggesting a synergistic interaction between the two components. During Knoevenagel condensation, the catalytic activity increased with the GO content in the hybrids up to 15 wt.% and decreased afterwards. (ii) 2-Benzoyl-3-phenylacrylonitrile was synthesized by the aerobic oxidation of benzyl alcohol followed by the Knoevenagel condensation with benzoyl acetonitrile using three different non-polar solvents, i.e., toluene, benzene, and mesitylene. The conversion of benzyl alcohol was higher for the hybrid materials compared to the individual components but decreased with the increase of the graphene oxide concentration.

Abstract
A dimeric Keggin-type phosphotungstate (ODA)10[(PW11FeO39)2O]·9H2O (abbreviated as ODA10[(PW11Fe)2], ODA = octadecyltrimethylammonium bromide) was synthesized and investigated comprehensively its antitumor activity on MCF-7 and A549 cells. The dimeric structure and amorphous morphology were characterized by FT-IR, UV-vis-DRS, SEM and XRD. The in vitro MTT assay of ODA10[(PW11Fe)2] showed anticancer activity on MCF-7 and A549 cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner, and the IC50 values for MCF-7 and A549 cells at 48 h were 5.83 μg/ml and 3.23 μg/ml, respectively. The images of the ODA10[(PW11Fe)2]-treated cells observed by inverted biological microscope exhibited the characteristic morphology of apoptosis. Flow cytometric analysis showed cell apoptosis and cycle arrested at S phase induced by ODA10[(PW11Fe)2]. The above results illuminated the main mechanism of the antitumor action of ODA10[(PW11Fe)2] on MCF-7 and A549 cells, indicating that this dimeric phosphotungstate is a promising anticancer drug.

Abstract
The energetically viable fabrication of stable and highly efficient solid acid catalysts is one of the key steps in large‐scale transformation processes of biomass resources. Herein, the covalent modification of the classical Dawson polyoxometalate (POMs) with sulfonic acids (‐SO3H) is reported by grafting sulfonic acid groups on the POM's surface followed by oxidation of (3‐mercaptopropyl)trimethoxysilane. The acidity of TBA6‐P2W17‐SO3H (TBA=tetrabutyl ammonium) has been demonstrated by using 31P NMR spectroscopy, clearly indicating the presence of strong Brønsted acid sites. The presence of TBA counterions renders the solid acid catalyst as a promising candidate for phase transfer catalytic processes. The TBA6‐P2W17‐SO3H shows remarkable activity and selectivity, excellent stability, and great substrate compatibility for the esterification of free fatty acids (FFA) with methanol and conversion into biodiesel at 70 °C with >98 % conversion of oleic acid in 20 min. The excellent catalytic performance can be attributed to the formation of a catalytically active emulsion, which results in a uniform catalytic behavior during the reaction, leading to efficient interaction between the substrate and the active sites of the catalyst. Most importantly, the catalyst can be easily recovered and reused without any loss of its catalytic activity owing to its excellent phase transfer properties. This work offers an efficient and cost‐effective strategy for large‐scale biomass conversion applications.

Abstract
A highly efficient bifunctional catalyst of an s-triazine-based carbon-nitride-supported cobalt oxide is developed for the aerobic oxidation–Knoevenagel condensation tandem reaction of benzyl alcohol and malononitrile, whereby 96.4% benzyl alcohol conversion with nearly 100% selectivity towards benzylmalononitrile can be obtained in 6 h at 80 °C. The excellent catalytic performance derives from the high basicity of carbon nitride and strong redox ability of Co species induced by carbon nitride. The catalyst is also quite stable and can be reused without any regeneration treatment, whose product yield is only an 11.5% reduction after four runs.

Abstract
Polyoxometalate-intercalated layered double hydroxide (POM-LDH) nanocomposites have received considerable attention in recent years because such nanocomposites not only inherit the intrinsic properties of POMs and LDHs but also exert significant synergistic effects during the catalytic process. In this frontier article, we present the latest advances on the POM-LDH nanocomposites ranging from new synthetic methods to catalytic applications. By making use of the host layer modification method and exfoliation assembly method, the as-prepared POM-LDH nanocomposites show a wide range of catalytic applications. The challenges and future opportunities are also discussed by highlighting some creative work on related POM- or LDH-based materials.

Abstract
Polyoxometalates (POMs) are molecular metal-oxide anions applied in energy conversion and storage, manipulation of biomolecules, catalysis, as well as materials design and assembly. Although often overlooked, the interplay of intrinsically anionic POMs with organic and inorganic cations is crucial to control POM self-assembly, stabilization, solubility, and function. Beyond simple alkali metals and ammonium, chemically diverse cations including dendrimers, polyvalent metals, metal complexes, amphiphiles, and alkaloids allow tailoring properties for known applications, and those yet to be discovered. This review provides an overview of fundamental POM-cation interactions in solution, the resulting solid-state compounds, and behavior and properties that emerge from these POM-cation interactions. We will explore how application-inspired research has exploited cation-controlled design to discover new POM materials, which in turn has led to the quest for fundamental understanding of POM-cation interactions.

Abstract
CH4 as the paramount ingredient of natural gas plays an eminent role in C1 chemistry. CH4 catalytically converted to syngas is a significant route to transmute methane into high value-added chemicals. Moreover, the CO/CO2 methanation reaction is one of the potent technologies for CO2 valorization and the coal-derived natural gas production process. Due to the high thermal stability and high extent of dispersion of metallic particles, two-dimensional mixed metal oxides through calcined layered double hydroxides (LDHs) precursors are considered as the suitable supports or catalysts for both the reaction of methanation and methane reforming. The LDHs displayed compositional flexibility, small crystal sizes, high surface area and excellent basic properties. In this paper, we review previous works of LDHs applied in the reaction of both methanation and methane reforming, focus on the LDH-derived catalysts, which exhibit better catalytic performance and thermal stability than conventional catalysts prepared by impregnation method and also discuss the anti-coke ability and anti-sintering ability of LDH-derived catalysts. We believe that LDH-derived catalysts are promising materials in the heterogeneous catalytic field and provide new insight for the design of advance LDH-derived catalysts worthy of future research.
