Abstract
Carbonylation processes have become widely recognized as a versatile, convenient, and low-cost method for the synthesis of high-value compounds. Given the great importance of heterocyclic compounds, the carbonylative approach has become increasingly important for their synthesis. In this mini-review, as a class of benzo-fused nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds, we summarized and discussed the recent achievements on the synthesis and functionalization of indole derivatives via carbonylative approaches.

Abstract
Heterocyclic compounds play a significant role in various biological processes of the human
body and many of them are in clinical use due to their diverse, chemical and biological properties.
Among these, indole is one of the most promising pharmacologically active molecules. Due to its
chemical reactivity, indole has been willingly modified to obtain a variety of new lead molecules,
which has been successfully utilized to obtained novel drug candidates for the treatment of different
pharmacological diseases. Indole-based compounds such as vincristine (anticancer), reserpine (antihypertensive),
amedalin (antidepressant) and many more describe the medicinal and pharmacological
importance of the indole in uplifting human life. In this review, we compiled various reports on indole
derivatives and their biological significance, including antifungal, antiprotozoal, antiplatelet, anti-
Alzheimer’s, anti-Parkinson’s, antioxidant and anticancer potential from 2015 onwards. In addition,
structure-activity relationship studies of the different derivatives have been included. We have also
discussed novel synthetic strategies developed during this period for the synthesis of different indole
derivatives. We believe that this review article will provide comprehensive knowledge about the medicinal
importance of indoles and will help in the design and synthesis of novel indole-based molecules
with high potency and efficacy.

Abstract

In this contribution,
we report novel palladium-catalyzed carbonylative
cascade approaches to highly functionalized polyheterocyclic structures.
The Pd-catalyzed carbonylative process involves the regioselective
insertion of one to three CO molecules and the sequential ordered
formation of up to eight new bonds (one C–O, two C–C,
five C–N). The exclusive formation of six-membered heterocycles
is elucidated by detailed modeling studies.

Abstract
In this account, we review our efforts in the field of carbonylation reactions promoted by palladium iodide-based catalysts, which have proven to be particularly efficient in diverse kinds of carbonylation processes (oxidative carbonylations as well as additive and substitutive carbonylations). Particularly in the case of oxidative carbonylations, more emphasis has been given to the most recent results and applications.

Abstract
A transition metal-free one-pot, three-steps protocol combining N-alkynylindoles, n-butyllithium, elemental selenium, and an electrophile source was developed to allow the synthesis of 3-(organoselanyl) selenazolo indoles. Substrate scope was studied by varying the structure of N-alkynylindoles and the electrophile source. This sequential reaction proceeded selectively through an initial intramolecular 5- endo-dig mode with two new carbon-selenium bonds formation in a one-pot procedure. The reaction conditions were also compatible with elemental sulfur and tellurium, which led to construct 3-(alkylthio) thiazolo indoles and 3-(alkyltelluro) tellurazolo indoles, respectively. In addition, it was also demonstrated that a series of dichalcogenides derived from chalcogenazoloindoles ring could be easily prepared via oxidation of chalcogenolate anion in contact with air.

Abstract
2-Imidazolidinone and its analogues are omnipresent structural motifs of pharmaceuticals, natural products, chiral auxiliaries, and intermediates in organic syntheses. Over the years, continuous efforts have been addressed to the development of sustainable and more efficient protocols for the synthesis of these heterocycles. This review gives a summary of the catalytic strategies to access imidazolidin-2-ones and benzimidazolidin-2-ones that have appeared in the literature from 2010 to 2018. Particularly important contributions beyond the timespan will be mentioned. The review is organized in four main chapters that identify the most common approaches to imidazolidin-2-one derivatives: (1) the direct incorporation of the carbonyl group into 1,2-diamines, (2) the diamination of olefins, (3) the intramolecular hydroamination of linear urea derivatives and (4) aziridine ring expansion. Methods not included in this classification will be addressed in the miscellaneous section.

Abstract
In this paper, we report a protocol for the preparation of 2-substituted-N-alkynylindoles via metalation of N-alkynylindoles followed by the capture of a 2-indolyl lithium intermediate with different electrophiles. The reactivity of the indoles prepared was also demonstrated through the reaction with CBr4/Ph3P for the preparation of 2-gem-dibromovinyl N-alkynylindoles and the hydrotelluration reaction of N-alkynylindoles, which led to vinylic tellurides. Some compounds prepared showed AChE inhibitory potential in the low micromolar range similar to that obtained with donepezil, a commercially available cholinesterase inhibitor.
